Nelson soll herausfinden, was genau dort vorgefallen ist.

Puzzle Agent is a short little adventure game with great art style (props to Grickle) and great atmosphere (Fargo meets Twin Peaks). However the Point & Click tag is misleading, because it is not a PnC game, its a puzzle game with adventure elements. Unfortunately the puzzles are not so great. Difficulty of the puzzles are completely unbalanced, and some of them lacks proper explanations. Also the resolution of the game is outdated. It really bothers the eye especially in some places. However, even though Puzzle Agent lacks a lot things, I believe it is still a great experience thanks to its unique art style, atmosphere and soundtrack. Considering its price being so low, I would recommend the game to anyone who loves the adventure genre.

An absolutely lovely puzzle game with an incredible art style, a few bits of humor, and a mysterious story to top it all off, i finished at 3.6 hours playtime and i wasnt going very quickly, so the game isn't too long, which can be better or worse depending on your opinion.

I played through Puzzle Agent together with my girlfriend and we had a blast. The variety of puzzles always matched one of our strong suits and one usually came up with a solution, except for two puzzles. I'd say playing through this together greatly enhanced the experience. It even works with a Steam Controller via Steam Link.

The art style is awesome and the characters are fun and quirky. Jokes are hit or miss, but that's subjective.

It's less of a Point And Click Adventure and more of a story tied together via the puzzles. Therefore, it's less cryptic than your typical P&C, but if you are stuck on a puzzle, you can't advance. You can get hints, however, so it was no big deal.

Fully recommended, especially at a sale, but you can't go wrong at full price either.

  • Fun little mini-puzzles throughout the game that aren't too difficult.
  • Play with cocoa.

I found the puzzles to be quite easy for the most part. The main exception to this being that multiple puzzles were not explained well. Therefore trying to understand how some of the puzzles worked was actually harder than solving the puzzles themselves.

The game is very linear where you just have to sit through story and follow a specific series of events with self-contained puzzles sprinkled in along the way. There is no exploration or any sort of piecing story or puzzle bits together.

The voice-over dialogue is slow and the text that appears on screen shows up at the same slow speed. There is no way to read the text at your own pace. Instead of clicking bringing up the full piece of text it simply skips to the next bit. So you either skip all story or you're stuck at the slow pace the game delivers it at.

The story showed promise, but was I was not satisfied in the end. I completed the game in about 3 hours. There are better point and click adventures and better puzzle games out there.

Short puzzle game that feels as though it drags in places. It never really got me hooked and the puzzles themselves are akin to the puzzles you'd find in a book of puzzles at a railway station. Some of the puzzles are not explained well at all and you need to fail a couple of times purely because you don't know exactly what it is that you should be doing. The art throughout is good and it has a fun plot/story. Overall I'd rate this game as 2/5 - I've ran through it once and won't be playing it again.

There's lots to like with Puzzle Agent:
    * the art style is fun
    * the voice acting is excellent
    * there's a good and funny plot.

Unfortunately, for me, there was too much that I didn't like:
    * text appears as characters speak, and clicking skips the whole bubble, so you're forced to listen to everything in real-time
    * puzzles were few (I found 37 and no sign that I missed any)
    * puzzles were mostly easy, with any difficulty coming from rule ambiguity (do I have to full every space?, etc.)
    * the plot ends with open questions - not a terrible story device, but I didn't expect it and it disappointed me
    * very linear, although it looks like it isn't

Entire game was ~4 hours start-to-finish. Fine for the sale price I paid, but I was surprised how short it was.

Telltale’s reputation exploded with their choice based adaptation of The Walking Dead, but the company had built up quite an extensive collection of point and click puzzlers before their main breakout hit. Puzzle Agent is one of their earlier games from the developers, and while there's some charm to be found, it can feel pretty bland and weak at times. It’s a decent enough game, but nothing about it stands out as a must-play experience.

    Scoggins

The highlight of Puzzle Agent was the creepy town the player is tasked to investigate. It’s hard to describe what makes Scoggins so delightfully odd, the eerily quiet environments and mysterious individuals that inhabit the town do a great job selling everything as just a bit uncanny and unusual. The chalky art style is especially effective, everything is so simple yet easy to read, and characters' personalities are immediately communicated by their varied appearances.

The game maintains a great creepy energy, but I also appreciated the light self awareness to be found as well. There's no doubt the Layton style gameplay of detective work hidden behind an abundance of in-universe puzzles can be quite silly, so Puzzle Agent’s ability to take jabs at the situation makes for some good levity. Tethers’ status as a straight man particularly works well, he bounces off of Scoggins’ civilians in an enjoyably conflicted way, and his self recorded messages make for some decent shots of humour.

    The Puzzles

Puzzles take up a smaller chunk of the gameplay then expected, as you spend most of the adventure talking to townspeople and taking notes, but they are still a welcome distraction. Puzzles are usually very clear with their information, making them pretty easy to understand and providing a decent challenge, but the diversity could’ve been a lot better. Some puzzles like jigsaws or “obstacle courses” showed up far too often considering how few puzzle types are in the game, they can get pretty annoying.

I also found the harsh contrast between investigating and puzzles to be a bit annoying at times. I appreciated that there were plenty of optional puzzles to find in the world, but the ones locked into the main story got very annoying as they kept interrupting the story far too much. I think the puzzles could’ve been far better paced, and some of the more interesting side puzzles could’ve been made more important instead of forcing the player to play new versions of puzzles they’ve already solved.

    The Narrative

Puzzle Agent is surprisingly story driven, although it’s a pretty basic premise. The game balances between the mundanity of your job to the eerie people and locations you investigate pretty well, you get a decent chunk of both and the shifts keep the plot captivating. The story is relatively simple, but with the exceptions of puzzles, the pacing felt really solid as you were constantly getting pointed in the right direction and offered new information.

I think the characters could’ve used some work. The designs are great and there's a couple memorable ones, but I think too many of them suffer from basic dialogue and very stagnant personalities. Tethers especially could’ve had a lot more going on as the protagonist, he has some funny lines but his personality felt rather inconsistent and it would’ve been nice to see that fleshed out. The ending is incredibly sudden but still serves as a closer rather than a cliffhanger, which greatly damages the narrative, it very much feels incomplete without it’s sequel.

    5/10

Puzzle Agent is certainly an interesting concept with a unique charm, but it needed a lot more fleshing out to take advantage of its strengths. It’s a short decent experience, but there's no huge compelling reason to check this one out.

Very nice little puzzle game. The best part of it is easily the writing and the art style though. It's not particularly deep but the game does a good job of immersing you in a almost twin peaks style weird little town with something mysterious going on. It doesn't try to take itself too seriously and mostly leans on comedy if anything but it's still interesting to go along with the story, shame the ending is just a cliffhanger.

Puzzles themselves can be hit or miss. Majority of them I think are pretty enjoyable and often challenging in a good way but every once in a while I encountered ones where the discription did a poor job of establishing rules and the premise, which can be pretty frustrating. Even hints are not much of a help at times. That might be a me problem but after looking through some telltale forums it seems like some particular puzzles cause some grief for other people too.

Considering the game is rather short and cheap I think it's well worth a try if you're into puzzle games.

    Puzzle Agent (2010)

Play as Agent Nelson Tethers from the FBI's Puzzle Research Division who must solve a series of puzzles after the factory that produces the erasers used by the White House has stopped production. Like the title of the game says, you solve puzzles and because its part of an FBI investigation its on the cost of the tax payer's behalf. Fun puzzles and Nelson is quite funny, a very enjoyable game to play with a nice art style to compliment it.

    8/10

About halfway through, Glori locks Nelson in a hut. Then she cuts the ice around the hut with a chainsaw, causing the hut to sink into icy water. Yeah, that's pretty cool... but then Nelson grabs a key from inside a fish and punches through a skylight to escape.

This game clearly takes its inspiration from the Professor Layton series, but unfortunately is not quite as good. There are some challenging puzzles here, but overall, most of the puzzles are a piece of cake. The hint system has a glitch where sometimes part of the hint is covered up by a white square, rendering the hint rather useless. And as far as the story goes, I was really intrigued and looking forward to the ending, but the ending is very unsatisfying, and answered absolutely none of the questions I had during the course of the game, which is a huge shame. I can't really recommend this game, but if you are looking for a challenging yet fun story-driven puzzle game, I would recommend any one of the Professor Layton games instead.

That was... unexpected. It was actually a pretty good game. The only think I hated was one, with a mouse click you can skip the dialogue so I skipped some by mistake :P And two, the jumpscares. Why does a puzzle game have jump scares? That was very absurd.Lastly I did not like how the game ended, I was hoping to find out what actually happened. Maybe in the sequel? Let me move onto that one :3

Puzzle Agent is a made for PC version of Professor Layton only with far fewer and less interesting puzzles and instead of being set in some quaint old village we are essentially dropped right into the movie Fargo with its snowy setting and “Ohhhh yaaaaaa! Wow!” dialogue. Puzzle Agent has a lot going for it but it fell really short on challenge and playtime. It still gets the thumbs up because the story was fun and I had a good time with the game overall and the price suits the short playthrough.

    PROS

      t. The artwork is unique and has a really comic book feel to it. I don’t know who the artist is but they mention them a lot so it must be a big deal. I liked the artwork.

sual. This is a great casual puzzle game to play when you are really looking for more story and dialogue than challenge. Hardcore puzzle fans will be left feeling a bit robbed if they go in to play this primarily as a puzzle game.

Yaaa! Some hot dish!”. The voice acting is well above par for a game like this. I had a lot of fun just listening to them babble on about random stuff.

    CONS

ulty puzzles. No I’m not being bitter about not finishing the game with a perfect score but I really felt that either some of the puzzles were not explained well enough which led to me making a mistake or there was actually more than one solution for a couple of the puzzles. One puzzle in particular I think could have had multiple solutions but it wasn’t THE ANSWER that the devs had programmed.

e end. It all ended rather abruptly with pretty much zero explanation. Not ideal in a situation where story is pretty much the catalyst for the game.

    THE CONCLUSION

I think if you want a super casual puzzle game that is more cutscenes than puzzles (there are only around 35 puzzles in the whole game) then pick this up. It’s a fun way to kill a few hours and it won’t melt your brain.

Fun little puzzle game. Took me around 5 hours to complete so if you like puzzles and want a quicker fun game then definitely pick it up. Some puzzles were actually quite difficult and I had to write down some notes for some of the puzzles in order to keep track of it all so in terms of making the puzzles being challenging they've definitely done well. There are also small jump scares here and there that got me, there's some super creepy and ominous music too.

Puzzle Agent is an enjoyable puzzle (surprise!) game that really leaves me wanting more of this exact style of storytelling and puzzle-crafting. While the focus of the game is unsurprisingly on solving puzzles, an absorbing story unfolds around Nelson Tether's investigation. The story itself isn't quite conventional in tropes or in format, aside from its total linearity. The story does not end in a way that is happy or sad, it does not highlight certain themes or messages, it barely follows an idea of slow escalation into mystery and instead leaves you confused from the first cut-scene. The characters and their interactions with Nelson build up the innate chaos in this story, as many characters provide an uncanny valley vibe of how they act, although it is normal for the setting.
This atmosphere of unsettling madness to Puzzle Agent is reinforced by the soundtrack. None of the music was highly memorable or catchy, but the sound design overall is less trying to sell you on appreciating the music and more on the game's atmosphere as a whole. That all being said, it's a well crafted tale, if somewhat confusing to explain and more confusing to experience.

But you don't end up at a game called 'Puzzle Agent' without wanting some puzzles, and the puzzles and their system is fantastic. The puzzles range greatly in difficulty, although the difficulty curve itself was really unpredictable from personal experience. Puzzles got easier and harder at will, but they never got too hard to solve thanks to the in-game hint system alongside the no-fail mechanics of the game. You can't 'fail' a puzzle, only lower your overall star rating, so there's no harm in getting something wrong with or without hints. The puzzles themselves are satisfying to solve and there's plenty of them. Even if the game itself is somewhat short, there are many optional puzzles that offer trickier alternatives or even entirely new types of puzzles to the player.
Puzzle Agent has amazing puzzles, an interesting atmosphere and writing that is probably controversial in presentation. In saying that, if you're suspicious that the neighbour's garden gnomes are moving to eavesdrop on you, then you're in the right mindset to enjoy everything that Puzzle Agent has to offer. If you just like puzzles, then you'll find enjoyment here regardless of the neighbour's gnomes.

The puzzles often didn't have enough information in the rules, or it excluded necessary information, causing you to get it wrong and have no clue why until you use your hints. Some of the puzzles also didn't account for the potential for other solutions and caused it to be wrong until you got their exact answer.

Interesting characters and story, a style of its own - the puzzles are a bit samey, though, and not all of the rules and descriptions are as clear as they should be. What doesn't help is that you get the objective and the rules before you see the puzzle, hence have no idea what they're about and often have to look them up again. Bass-ackwards... Still a nice short game, though.

    Pretty good.
There are a few puzzles that can be solved by a different answer, IMO, kinda throws me off.
Story line is great, the dialogue loads a bit slow to me, but that's fine. i just miss some when i'm fast clicking.
I'm still a bit confused about the ending but
I guess the sequel will expand the story
Wished free play gave a different samples of the same puzzle so I can replay.

There's no investigative factor like other point and click games where you need a thing to access this and end up going back and forth random areas. No, the game leads you on with the story and the puzzles are there along the way. Pretty chill game but with a good level of puzzle difficulty.

The game is fun, but too short and too easy. There are only 37 puzzles in the entire game and I was able to clear the whole thing in 4 hours even without using hints. The visuals and presentation are nice and the voice acting is funny but there just isn't enough content here to make it worthwhile. The game is probably better suited towards children. If you're a fan of puzzle games or point and click games this one isn't worth more than a couple of dollars.

The puzzles are mostly real puzzles. The hint system is based on how many gums you can find, but mostly not needed. The game is short, and that is good. Each character in the game is somewhat interesting/shady/well developed. Nelson Tethers is a badass FBI-agent. Solvable without a guide! No chance to get really badly stuck.
Do not look at the screenshots, they contain spoilers. If you like puzzles and a good mystery story, this game was made for you! TOP20 of all time! (Sequel is ... ok)

Awesome atmosphere, but some inconsistent puzzles. I love this genre in general, but this one was just not particularly great.

One of telltales little known, and underrated games. It's very cheap, and pretty short, so honestly just buy it if your conflicted.

A short, but fun puzzle game. Some of he puzzles are obscure in the rules/explanations, but in generally they make for a range of basic brain training puzzles.

    Refreshing!

8 puzzles of 41 complete and half and hour (well Steam page says 30min - i thought it was a little longer) in, and i am pleasantly surprised with this game.

puzzle-wise, it started out very simple (puzzle piece/ pipe flow etc) and then came a few i had to actually think about.

2 i used pen & paper - like a caveman - as these were more comprehensive logic, than just point & click.
i like a P&C every now and then, spesh the ones that dont spell everything out, though a year on Steam, have found few budget priced detective/mystery/puzzle games that are less obvious.

    THE NON-PUZZLE PARTS...
there's a dialogue that can be clicked through if its not ur thing (unsure if that will lose u an achievement though)
the graphics are simple but effective.
writing and characters arent a total bore.
there is also a rating/score given after each puzzle - based on how many hints u used and how many times u submitted ur answer - Different & Interesting, imo.

if i had to pick on anything it would be a laggy-ish cursor (which i have found in other games, tho unsure if that has more to do with the low-end tech side of my PC)

I bought it on sale and as i am, so far, about 15-20 through, unsure if full price is worthy or not.
its also possible, based on the progression of puzzles so far, that they may become more intricate, if so def worth full price.

so i am really lovin, that there are aspects of the game where puzzles have to be 'worked' out and looking forward to playing the rest of the game.

    END OF GAME added review

Finished this fab lil game and it didnt disappoint.
The games did continue to require logic, reasoning and a bit of lateral thinking here and there.
At the right times there were sprinkles of simple puzzles that were a welcome reprise which also gave the mind space to absorb the bizzare story line that was unfolding.
There were also a dash of randomness in the scenes which kept the humble 2D game 3-dimensional.

This game was a gd example in not overlooking free games as simple time biders.
Only critique is the mouse had a laggy thing going on, though nothin was time sensitive or needed a number of complex clicking/ drag/ drop, so cd be overlooked, considering the quality of the rest of the content.

Story, production, puzzles, first game where im quite satisfied and content with my journey

I think this game is a perfect example to show that Telltale knew how to make good games, even without Telltale’s signature quicktime-event-driven and franchise-based games.
The game is simply a loosely tied series of puzzles, with a bit of nonsensical story tying them together.
The humor is supposedly funny, but I think that mostly people familiar with Graham Annable's work will find it so.
I myself did not find it very funny (more like “hah, that’s cute” than “hahaha” funny).
But I don’t think that takes too much from the game.

    The game is enjoyable.
The puzzles are fairly short, and each stands out on its own, so you can get a short session of the game whenever you have the time.
I was even able to stream it to my mobile phone, and because it’s a puzzle game, the lag still allowed me to play using my home wifi network.

    Hello Everyone,

In this review we are entering a world of Absurdity, Madness and Intrigue in one of Telltale Games lesser known titles, “Puzzle Agent”. Let this mystery begin.

Puzzle Agent is Story driven Puzzle Adventure game. Unlike some of Telltale’s better know titles this game does not give the player a series of chooses, which allows them to progress further in the adventure. In this game the player follows the story of Nelson Tethers, who is a special Agent from the U.S. Department of Puzzle Research that is sent on a secret mission to find out why the Scoggins Eraser Company stopped producing erasers for the President of the United States. Once Agent Tethers makes it to Scoggins he is greet by a series of suspicious characters that all seem to be hiding some rather prevalent information about the mishap that occurred at the Scoggins eraser factor. With the government’s special Puzzle division on the case, many of the towns people start to even more leery about the sudden murders and disappearances that have begun to pledge the town. There are even some townsfolk that believe that this was all do by the town’s gnomes.

At the beginning of the game, the player is introduced to an opening puzzle and once the puzzle is completed, the game’s story can continue. The game has around 34 Levels that begin to progressively increase in difficulty as the player makes it though various stages of the game. During the puzzles, players are scored based on the amount of stars (Max number of Stars per level 10, Lowest is 1) they are able to collect and this is judged by three factors. The first being the numbers of attempts that the player makes in order to complete a puzzle. The second is determined by if the player uses hints during their gameplay. The final point of assessment is if the player can successfully finish a puzzle.

As you progress through the game, the player will encounter a series of puzzles ranging from reconstructing images, route construction, Word Problems, Riddles, Scene Replication, and Mathematic Calculations. One a puzzle is completed the player will slowly unravel the mysteries behind Scoggins Minnesota. During the transition between scene segments, players can collect used wads of gum that can help give them up to three hints in solving each of the game’s puzzles.

At times the in-game music is almost eerie in nature and works well with the various location transitions that occur throughout the course of the game. In general, the music works well in this comical mystery puzzle exploration game. The games controls function with a mouse and are rather response. The in-game menus are rather simplistic in nature with there only being three options for the game’s settings menu (Music, Volume, and Sound) and the game’s voice audio is only in English. This game is relatively short with full game completion being possible in around 4-5 hours.

In the end, Puzzle Agent is a fun mystery style puzzle game that is full of some rather interesting and unexpected surprises along the way. During my play though I was invested in the game’s story and was rather entertained throughout the journey. I would recommend this game to gamers that are interested in puzzle games, people looking to play though an odd/amusing mystery story as it unfolds, and gamers that want a game that they can pickup/play/finish within a few hours of play.

Now with that, we can conclude this review. I hope that you found this review helpful.
