Project Torque is a free-to-play MMORG (Massively Multiplayer Online Racing Game) developed by Invictus-Games Ltd and released in 2008. Experience the thrills of high-speed on and off road racing with tens of awesome cars in Project Torque. You can race against thousands of fellow players on the racetracks of Germany or the Hungarian and Mexican off-road tracks, in the English countryside, on the rooftops of Shanghai and many more. Invictus' latest game engine offers a realistic real-time damage model. The vehicles are user-customizable both in appearance and performance. Win points by racing, buy items in-game and tune your ride. This game does not require professional driving skills; we'd like to see you having fun!

COMMUNITY FEATURES
You will be able to make friends through the in-game chat and friend list, organize crews or join others, so you can show how good you are when it comes to racing in teams. In regular Crew Tournaments you will be able to join a ladder and fight your way up to the top. Beat other racing crews in battles, gain prestige and win prizes. You can excel only if you take up the challenge.

DOZENS OF CARS TO TUNE
You will be able to buy dozens of cars in the in-game item mall. Once you own them, you can upgrade the engine, transmission brakes, etc. to be the fastest racer.

The game makes really fun and i have multiple Worldrecords on many Tracks. The Graphics are insane its so realistic and ereignisreich. I think its a game for everyone.

Ein sehr spaßiges und lustiges Erlebnis. Besonders viel Spaß macht es mit freunden. Das Levelsystem ist gut, man kann die Autos viel tunen und es gibt viele interessante Modi. Leider sind nicht all zu viele Spieler Online, was jedoch nicht das größte Problem ist, da man einfach selber eine Lobby starten kann und mit seinen Freunden Spaß haben kann. Kann ich sehr weiterempfehlen.

Ein sehr Realitätsnahes und Ereignisreiches Spiel. Das Driften ist besonders gut umgesetzt. Der Multiplayer läuft auch sehr gut. Leider fehlt das 21:9 Seitenverhältnis, aber 16:9 ist ausreichend.

Es ist ein klassiker von autorennspielen aber weiss gott keine simulation....aber sehr abwechlungsreich und einfach mal was anderes wenn man mal keine verbissenen rennen fahren will
und man kann sehr viel spass haben im capture the flag modus
Driften macht auch spass wenn man sich reingefunden hat und nebenher kann man auch ab und zu mal bissl Nascar und draften üben.....es ist halt alles etwas einfacher gehalten als in den hardcore simulation wie iRacing, ACC, R3E und co.
einfach mal antesten....ist ja erstmal gratis....und die inhalte sind auch nicht wirklich teuer

Das gute alte LevelR ist wieder da und damit auch viele alte Freunde von damals sehr schön
wer es von früher kennt, wird das Spiel lieben wir sehen uns auf der Strecke.

Its a racing online game with unlicensed car. Handling feels aracadey that kinda decent. But its a dead game. Last time i played, there are only 2 or 3 people on the server. I wish i know this game earlier.

If you want to have fun driving in all kinds of ways, it's for you.
If you want to complain that the graphics aren't 2022ish, don't play.

There are enough maps and cars.
Game modes are the shining star here - arcade, simulation, catch the flag, and even a pacman race with cars called explorer.
It's all tons of fun online.

Yes, there are hiccups and some minor lags, but the game is great and has been revived by its' fans from abandonment and is now free!
They do also plan development, but that will take some time.
In the meanwhile, go have fun :)

Project Torque by itself is a fun game with its physics, the graphics is nothing of worry when you get down to its driving physics. However, progression is near impossible as the playerbase is generally really nonexistent, if a more independent-progression system was created i'd change my stance with the recommendation of the game. Overall, fun, but too much dependency on requiring people to join [spoiler] (and this is coming from someone who is alone} [/spoiler]

a great past time in the windows XP/ vista era great fun with the lads id suggest get a few people to install with you and have a blast whichever game mode you prefer. personally im a CTF and drift guy.

The game gets an average of 30 or so players a day around the world and it shows. I tried for the first time to compete in a race and whadya know there's 4 people playing in the entire game (at least in north america and my internet is terrible anyway so I'm not playing on a different server.) This game, while I'm sure it was incredible back when it released in 2008, just doesn't have a large enough playerbase to keep going.

Game is 100% dead, no players online and that's the only way you can make progress is by playing against other people. Also the grind is terrible unless you're willing to spend huge amount of money to make any progress in the game. I thought I would try it out but I'm too late to the party and it's over. I strongly don't recommend this game

i played this game for 30 minutes and the driving feels like the driver has a Alzheimer that makes it impossible to drive, and the fist 10 minutes was me just getting the controls working. ROBLOX HAS BETTER DRIVING MECHANICS THAN THIS!!!

Just one thing to say game is too grindy and developer is greedy fcking bastard, almost had 69 hours in game and had fun of total half an hour. Do not play this game if you don't give 500 hours into the game. Also updates are shit, barely fixes any bugs and for fcking 1 year aneversay developer gave just x2 exp bonus. All in all cars cost too much, you get little money for hours of racing, graphics what are those it can be runned on apple smart watch(still looks good), developer is at least to me retarded person because this game has fcking potential.

Lowkey a good game with low player base. The game can be run on a potato but it also doesn't have the worst graphics. Now, the netcode is weird and sometimes cars wobble around the track from your point of view but it isn't game breaking. There are many game modes from a sort of free roam, drifting, drag racing, betting modes arcade racing, and even a realism mode that really is pretty good for a free to play racing game. Getting cars can be a grind. For example the AE86 look alike car is 200,000 RP you can make 500 per podium finish up to 8-900 per 1st place in arcade mode. You get more in some game modes too. But doing arcade would take at least 2-400 races in arcade to earn that car but there are cheaper ones and many choices you can make on the first car you choose when you start the game for the first time.
Five hours in and I've fully upgraded my free car, tuned it the way I wanted it to drive, and paint/vinyled it to look cool. I wish there wasn't such a grind to get other vehicles but as you can but like $3 worth of currency to buy that same AE86 and the game is free, I get it. But I think 200-400 arcade races on podium is a bit of a stretch. 100-200 I could absolutely live with sincle I'm only at maybe 50-60 races right now and I spent all those rewards on upgrades to win races more often.

Other than the normal gripes about grind in an MMO style game, I think Project Torque has been overlooked by the racing game community and I urge you to give this one a solid try.

For the Developer if they read this;
I would absolutely love to play the game in native 1920x1080. That would make quite a difference in the user experience!

Free, Good race, fine graphics, easy handling.
But sadly even though this game is FREE, this game is almost at near-death state. This MMO-Racing is not very welcome to those who're new to these grinding hell games, seriously, this game can make you insane just with it's grinding.

I Hope, if they still care about this game future, they will add something like main mission, side mission, AI Opponets, Intergrated servers, class-based cars if clicking on quick-match, etc.
Also, please make the default laps is 3 laps. My first 40 minutes at this game is just racing at one track w/ 20 laps only w/ 3 players. Boring asf

the amount of grind you need to do to to purchase your next car after the free one just isnt worth the time and effort at all. theres literally 0 content. theres no lisences that the site shows. if you aint coming 3rd or better all the time then you aint getting anywere in the game. and given when you max your first car by level 8 and your stuck with it for ages and most people in races their cars are alot faster so you aint winning unless you got some luck behind you. theres no reward even worth mentioning cos there isnt any. you unlock cars when you level up that you can clearly never afford. even for a free game it just isnt worth it. seriously.

I'm in a server by myself, waiting for ANYTHING to happen. I can't even do solo laps while I wait. C'mon mate, lower the race requirements to one car, at least until there's two cars online. I can't work out how to make the wheel detect again, and I doubt the h pattern shifter would work even if I did get the wheel to go, because the developers don't want people driving on their game. It must be a front for some illegal activity, otherwise why have the server if no-one ever drives there? This was once a fun race game with hundreds of active members, but greed has made it a wasteland. Lucky it was free, you certainly get what you pay for here.

First time player. So far so good. Awesome tracks and fantastic graphics. It would be better if everyone started playing. If you want to race or just relax you can drive around for hours. The upgrades are detailed and there is customization as well. For a classic game i'm not disappointed.

Nostalgia! I used to play this game back in my middle school days and the game hasn't aged a bit on me. Jack, the developer, is still ironing out some glitches and once he does he will release more cars and more maps for people to play. They're currently looking for developers to help get the content pushed out faster so if you're into game development, send them a job application. Can't wait to see what he has in store for us!

This game has a lot of potential, but is held back by its outdated MMO system. It just way too grindy for the normal player to invest a lot of time it, and its hard to justify investing money into this project knowing that it has already failed twice in the past.

Driving is janky but you can get used to it. The players can't drive for shit and they are toxic as well so they will just ram you off. The grind is not that bad but could be made better with some missions (the ones that are ingame (so none) are literally nonexistent it's just a waste of space on your screen). Just get a better game not this.

This is my first genuine racing game so I wouldn't say that I am very qualified, especially because my previous experience with racing games boils down to ROBLOX games.

I really do enjoy this game, the physics are nice and racing others is exciting and sometimes amusing, (crashing directly into walls, causing half of the server to spin out, etc...). Again, I can't really say anything detailed due to lack of experience with games like this, but I do enjoy this game, especially now that I have a wheel.

Although I do have my complaints. My main one is locking gamemodes behind levels. I feel like that at the very least arcade and simulation mode should be immediately accessible, and that the default mode be simulation, although that is just my personal preference, and seeing the direction that the game is heading in (new map being very typical of a arcade game) it seems they are heading towards an arcade oriented experience.

This game is good and simple fun. It lacks any complexity really... which has its pros and cons.

Really, you should just try the game out yourself and see what its like, although it is probably best to invite friends because the game is a bit dead...

22 Hours in and I like it. You should play it, spend 2 bucks to support the developers. Its easy and good since its so cheap you can skip over hundreds of racing grinds. Beware of masterpower, he rams everybody on Wangan!!1!

If you are wondering if this is a good game. IT IS! There are though many people who aren't happy with this game. But, the thing with Project Torque is that it is more of a 2000's racing game on another level than a new game. I say this because it has many customizing options but what set's it apart is that this game has game modes that I have only seen in paid games before. Like the Forza Franchise so if you are looking for a free racing game with Racing, Capture the Flag, Drifting and other game modes this is it!

I personaly think this game is absolutely amazing! Its old and the graphics arent to pretty, but thats part of what makes it so good! Even if you didnt play it back in the day it somehow still gives you alot of nostalgia. It has a similiar atmosphere to the old NFS games. And while it may be old, the handling still feels very good and it has nice car customisation and upgrade possibilities. I liked it so much when I first played,I played 3 hours on end. I strongly recommend this.

Had to give this one a thumbs down unfortunately. I'm one of the unlucky ones that just can't get the game to work, regardless of trying the various fixes and workarounds posted both in the steam community forums and what I could find on a google search. I remember loving this game back at initial release, just sad that I can't play it now.

Just like the first Project Torque i found when I first jumped to the PC MASTER RACE. See what i did their? Race? Haha! The game has been picked up from the depths of the unknown and is being restored week by week, with the devs who used to be fans now taking the leadership role and making a great non-AAA fun racer game available to everyone.

Sure, the game is dated graphically and sometimes the player base can annoy you, but I can't think of anyone else who has really done Free to Play MMO racing game as well as this game has over the years. I'd love to see graphical and performance improvements made, would make it all that much better. I'm a long time player, so my review is through nostalgia goggles also, fair warning. :)

a very enjoyable bad game

pros
-an original game made with much love and few resources (eg.: there is a setting which enables a small animated H-shifter on the screen when you change gears and lots of little details car guys would appreciate, yet you can only choose from like 10 preset colours for each car.)
-handles better than any NFS in the last 15 years (separate arcade/sim mode)
-unlicensed lookalike cars, most of them are not bad
-not p2w, ingame currency cheap
-interior view
-clean sector cash bonus, dynamic ghosting may discourage rammers
-runs smooth at unlimited fps
-alternative kind of racing game unlike any other title
-most tracks are fun and varied (rally, B-roads, tokyo highway, racetrack, replicas of official Hungarian Rallycross courses, NASCAR, etc)
-road surfaces feel different
-RWD/AWD/FWD feel different
-smooth controller input, good steering dampening

cons
-even though the game is designed for a controller to be able to control drifting, X360 controller triggers only go up to 99% due to a problem in the games code. its not noticeable in handling but still cant help thinking i need that 1%. for a peace of mind on long straights a tap on the UP keyboard button will lock it at 100% as long as you dont release the trigger.
-relatively few cars, starter cars not suitable for higher level racing even fully tuned, you have to buy your 2nd car smartly or you'll face lots of grinding, upgrades give a disappointing increase in power, for every game mode only 1 or 2 cars are viable
-simulation mode unpopular among players
-small playerbase
-barebones menu, few options and stats
-friend system hard to use and hidden away
-subpar sound quality
-good cars locked behind level requirements, its impossible to buy levels even if you have the money, lots of grinding

OK, so the main thing to know is that Invictus is the development team that originally was working on PT.
Recently, there was a guy named Jack who got a hold of the team and got permission to start development again, and since 2019 I believe, has been working on the game BY HIMSELF.
People are joining the discord and helping out, including me, I produce music and design audio for the game when I have time, in the hopes that it is used and gives a better experience to the players overall, however, the reviews you will see a majority of the time are people expecting a FULL GAME.
This game works really fucking well for just one guy and a few other people porting old cars in my opinion, and if instead of hating on it, maybe join the discord which is literally everywhere by the way, and help out how you can.
If you can't, then stop fucking complaining about the game guys, it has so much to be done, and shitting on it for not being done doesn't result in progress.
I've played it for about a week now, and I love it more than newer games based on racing, and this game is from 2008!
Let that sink in for a moment.
A game from 2008 is more enjoyable of a game than most newer ones.
And the reason is because it's an ORIGINAL FUCKING IDEA!
So, join the discord, talk with some people, have some fun, and be PATIENT, that's about it.

A really fun game, great to play with friends and mess around! The graphics are nice, dated but still good, the option settings are great to make it run really well, the damage model is surprisingly competent and deep for a game of this nature, there are quite a handful of gamemodes to play(Racing, drift, Nascar-like speedway racing, CTF, amongst others), and the gameplay is really fun. It's great that it gives you options such as ghost mode, and stuff really gets heated when it's off, but it's awesome that it can be turned on, too.

B-I-G - P-R-O-B-L-E-M though: Man, there just isn't enough content to enjoy! This is an MMO, so it's all about grinding. It's hard to find a balance on these kinds of games to keep it going, and this one fails: There just isn't enough cars here, only 23 to be exact, and 3 or 4 of them which are joke vehicles, unsuitable for racing. And, from what I've seen on the cars I've owned, customization is, dissapointingly, even more shallow than the car catalog. And because of this lack of content, everything is overpriced: Buying a starter car from the store costs 20.000, which will take you at least a day or two of racing a lot.

This game has a great engine, awesome gameplay, good graphics, and fun ideas, but just NEEDS MORE! It has so much potential to be way more than it is, but needs so much more content. It needs more cars, more customization options, more varied maps(They all look similar), more music(It's all bland, but it at least lets you add your own), more balancing(Some of the starter cars and simply better than others in every way), and I'd even say to put those damage physics and throw in a demolition derby gamemode just for laughs, because I'd actually be a really good fit to those 4 joke vehicles and a good use for the CTF maps, and, it'd be absolutely incredible to add traffic in the game, and have you dodge around that while racing your friends to the finish line.

This game has the potential to be unforgettable, but unfortunutely, it's not too far from being the complete opposite. Still, a good one to download for free and play with your friends on an afternoon or two, have some fun with it, and laugh at the dated asthetics of female models dressed as racers doing sexy poses on the menus. HEH, this game's from 2008 alright!

If you played any other invictus racing games (except street legal racing redline and monster garage) You know what to expect.
Some of the tracks are copied from CRC, some of the cars are copied from CRC and Overspeed, the handling is trash but with SOME attention put into it, and the whole game is VERY cheap and has a low quality, but a lot of love and some bad work put into specifics details, like clutch, transmission, etc.
This game is an MMO that offers you with the typical car set based on levels, you level up, get cash, modify the car, then buy a new car, and so on and on. There is no freeroam here, so dont expect anything like drift city. The racing is OK. In fact its quite good, but spending 15k of ingame currency to get meager 8 hp increase with a maxed out car seems odd.

OST sucks pretty bad but you can put your own songs to listen to, and thankfuly the game isn't too grindy.

That being said, this game isn't from the devs, this is a fanmade steam release and server maintenance, as such, its constnatly having updates to add more and more content from the old dead game that lasted until 2014, but if they plan to fix the game a bit more from where the original left or not im not so sure.

As far as fan made MMOs go, the netcode is pretty damn amazing here. Connecting from southamerica to Europe with high amount of players i still have yet to experience a single netcode or desync issue.
