Während am frühen Morgen die ersten Sonnenstrahlen auf ein wunderschönes Stückchen Land fallen, beginnt die Uhr zu ticken. Sie müssen sich beeilen und eine Verwahrungszelle für den Haufen Schwerverbrecher bauen, der gerade in einem gelben Bus zu Ihrem zukünftigen Gefängnis gebracht wird. Während Ihre Arbeiter den letzten Stein legen, dürfen Sie ihnen keine Pause gönnen, denn der erste richtige Zellenblock wartet auf seine Errichtung, damit Sie genug Platz haben, um die nächste Sträflingslieferung aufzunehmen. Und wenn alle erst ein Plätzchen zum Schlafen haben, geht der Spaß erst richtig los. Sie brauchen eine Kantine, eine Krankenstation und einen Wachraum, ach, und vergessen Sie bitte nicht, eine Toilette einzubauen, sonst wird es nämlich ziemlich ungemütlich. Und wie wäre es mit einem Fitnessraum? Oder Einzelzellen? Oder einer Hinrichtungskammer?
Inspiriert von Dungeon Keeper, Dwarf Fortress und Theme Hospital und mit über einer Million Spielern ist Prison Architect das beste Lock-Em-Up der Welt.

Gerade die Ereignisse lassen sich stellenweise nicht beheben und zerstören ab dem Midgame die Atmosphäre.
Essenseinstellungen werden nicht mehr erkannt, Bodensenkungen können nicht behoben werden, Tunnelsuche wird durchgeführt und trz. gibt es 2 Minuten später 3 Tunnel, Insassen laufen überall rum und werden permanent durchgelassen von den eigenen Wachen. Das gab es früher nicht. Viele Handlungen sind Buggy geworden. Erfüllt man die unlösbaren Aufgaben nicht ist man in 30 Minuten pleite und kann von neu Anfangen. Schade eigentlich, dass man ein Spiel so buggy Patchen kann.

Es ist einfach schade, was Paradox Interactive aus diesem Spiel gemacht hat. Früher war es Bug frei und alles funktionierte richtig gut.

Itself is the game great, but since the overtaking from Paradox Interactiv is unplayable, due a massiv amount of bugs and that Pardox is just interest in making money, and not to make this game playable again. Beacuse this the game I, and many other players aswell, the interest to play it anymore. Sadly it will probably not change and so we have to play a bugging game, which gets more worser with any new DLC/UPDATE they publish.

Die Kampagne sollte gespielt werden, denn es gibt kein Tutorial für diese Sandbox.
Trotzdem die Grafik kindisch wirkt, würde dieses Game keine Jugendfreigabe von mir erhalten.
Empfehlenswert für alle, die die Paradoxe Spiele kennen: Viel Strategie am Anfang, welche im Verlauf immer Verzweigter wird und sehr viel Verwaltung mit sich bringt.

Sehr schlechte Übersetzung ins deutsche.
Kaum etwas erklärt.
Köche bedienen die Sicherheitskameras.
Kameras schauen in mehrer Räume.
Infos über die Insassen kann man nur erraten
Nach so langer Zeit sollten solche dinge einfach schon behoben sein! Es ist als würde ich eine Sitzbank ohne Sitzflächen kaufen. Solche dinge sollten am Flohmarkt verkauft werden aber sicher nicht in einem Geschäft!

- Laundry and mail rooms randomly stop working.
- The game drops to under 5 FPS depending on the number of static objects you have placed.
- Extreme 20 second freezes and slow responsiveness when building/cloning larger facilities.
- Movement bugs out completely at higher game speeds to the point where nobody can get anywhere.
- Inconsistent and buggy reform programs like reform programs getting out of sync with days.
- Complete nonsense like the danger level increasing while prisoners are sleeping.
- Staff and prisoners walking to distant rooms when a better one is available closer to them.
It's basically an early beta quality game at this point, but it's been like this since release. I so so so want to love this game, but its technical issues are so frustrating that I just can't.

This game is now broken
TLDR:
This game is fundamentally broken with bugs and issues so bad that once you really start getting into it, the issues prevent the game working like its supposed to. It's a decent price, so you'll get hours of fun still, but once you've spent hours and hours designing and building the best and most amazing prison, your efforts are not repaid with a smooth prison machine but anarchy and an endless army of useless staff running from one end of your prison to the other for no reason. And what's even worse, because the issues are with the game, there's nothing you can do about it and you've just wasted those 20 hours planning and building to be disappointed....
Intro
I've been playing this game for years, coming back to it periodically. Instead of fixing the many bugs that have constantly plagued this game, they seem to have left them and they've grown worse over time when more DLC is added. I've played all the expansions, I know how the game works so I humbly suggest that these issues aren't being caused by my lack of knowledge or poor prison design! I'll list a few key problems below.
AI
The biggest (and most frustrating) bug in this game is the AI that controls staff and prisoners. It's clearly broken and they've tried to fix it by forcing the player to manually assign cooks to kitchens, gardeners to outdoor areas, janitors to 'prioritise' certain areas etc. In truth though the AI is simply broken.
Cooks will wonder around outside near the road (even if they're deployed to a kitchen), or walk to a staff room that's on the other side of the prison rather than the one that is 2 squares away in the next room. This means that they are never around when the demand for meals comes through the system. They then have to move back to the kitchen, which, if you have a big prison map, can take at least an hour. Coupled with the issues with the deliveries system (I’ll talk about that later), this means that once your prison is larger than say 200 inmates, your inmates will just be constantly upset, because they don't get fed enough. (You can use inmates to bolster the cook numbers, but this doesn't completely solve the issues and introduces more contraband into the prison)
Because the AI is broken, it affects other parts of the game as well. Your janitors will leave half the prison filthy, but move from one side of the map to the other to clean 1 random spot, then leave everything else filthy and loiter in the cleaning cupboard whilst there are piles of laundry in the reception area and in all the cells.
The same is true for the gardeners, they will clean literally everywhere except apparently where you want them to, despite areas being 'prioritised' through the deployment screen. They don't move fast enough and even if you have an army of them, say 40, the outdoor areas are just constantly trashed and it looks ugly.
Final point on AI; these issues trickle into the guards, dogs and every other staff member. Dog handlers will ignore an empty kennel close by, and go to one right on the other side of the map, randomly, for no reason. The Dog handlers STILL get exhausted far too quickly, and it means that you'll have 39/40 dogs resting, when 10 of them are supposed to be on deployment.
Despite having nearly 200 guards in my latest prison, the deployment system will struggle to keep up with say a deployment of 70 guards. Instead of assigning the nearest guard to a post, they're assigned from the other end of the complex. That means that by the time guards get to their assigned post its time to change again! The same is true when a staff member gets tired and leaves the door control unit, another guard on the other side of the map will be assigned, despite there being 50 unassigned guards in the rooms nearby!
Deliveries:
The ability to filter and sort what gets delivered where becomes redundant when your complex gets big enough and you have say 4 kitchens; 3 workshops etc. The game just can’t manage it all. My kitchens gets LITTERED with ingredient boxes to the point they can’t move, despite the fact I have pantries assigned, about 40 tall fridges in each one and in each kitchen. The ordering system is broken, at last count my 360 inmate prison had 18000 ingredients on site and was increasing. The grown ingredients ratio is broken, they are hardly used. Farmers and prisoner workers will leave boxes of fresh ingredients in the field for days instead of storing them. Instead of delivering kitchen supplies to the nearest helipad, they are delivered randomly to any helipad that accepts them. Which means you have to have a central delivery zone which the cooks now have to run to. It takes far too long. This essentially means you can't spread your prison out and have cell blocks etc. It all has to be squashed together and ugly.
Perfect storm DLC
The latest DLC is bugged. Rats still stay in your prison for days and days even if you have the exterminators on site, rat traps and a clean prison. The staff don't seem to do anything with rat traps despite them all being trained. I'm not sure if that sonic rat deterrent thing does anything. The subsidence bugs out a lot too, and the repair men will just hover in the delivery area instead of moving to fix it.
Graphics:
When you build a big prison, and you use the intelligence option with 100% coverage, my game gets graphical issues, screen tearing and lag etc. (probably an issue with the games frame rate). And I have a very decent graphics card.
Carpentry/Workshop issue
This one is an old issue, but it’s still broken and it annoys the hell out of me. If you have a workshop with 5 saws 5 presses and 30 carpentry tables, and assign 40 inmates to work there. The prisoners without carpentry training will mostly fill up those 40 job posts. It's pure luck if you'll get a prisoner with carpentry skills assigned to the room, and luck again if they will work the carpentry table instead of the saw or the press. I've seen people block access to the saw and the press to force inmates to work the tables, but that only works if those 40 inmates have the carpentry training! The end result is a workshop where 30 inmates are wondering aimlessly, making the carpentry aspect of the room useless. They should make it a separate room or make it so that you can manually assign carpentry trained inmates to the workshops.

Prison Architect is a great game but I will not recommend anything published by Paradox due to the fact they'll sell you half a game at full price then expect you'll be willing to pay for the rest of it in pieces. I'm all for buying an Expansion Pack, for example, that adds a lot of content and functionality to the game. I'm not against supporting devs after release. But while you're considering buying another piece of the game they'll be busy selling your private information to third party companies. You did accept the EULA, correct?

Don't buy this game. Ever since Paradox acquired it all they do is churn out terrible DLC after terrible DLC, while the game continues to be broken beyond belief every update, especially core features.
This was the very first game I ever bought on Steam, and I'm so disappointed to see how far it's fallen. Don't support Paradox as a company, don't buy this game.

3 years later, try it again. New free update. It's bad man. The CEO calls you every 12 seconds about implementing a new food policy to save money, and fines you a ton of money every few in-game hours if you dont change it. Except that he doesnt care if you changed it or not, you still get the fine. The mayor constantly bans the use of your visitation room, just angering your prisoners for no reason. Radios? The Chief says a local DJ is firing up your prisoners, time to get rid of those. And sometimes these ringringringring notifications don't even have the courtesy to go away, you click them and they dont stop appearing. Ringringringringringring until you quit the game entirely.
Oh and that's not all! Fires in the kitchen twice a day! Water pipes bursting every day! Your power grid explodes every other day! But you know what, I can throw around extra sprinklers and drains FINE. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT YOU CAN'T FIX? SUBSISTENCE ROT. Imagine for a moment you have a halfway decent prison and suddenly the small corner of your holding cell has just instantly decayed. You fix the walls and floors, there's some small chaos fine, someone tried to escape whatever. 2 in game days later it happens again in the same spot BUT EVEN BIGGER THIS TIME. You quarantine it off, rebuild your holding cell and shower area somewhere else. AND IT HAPPENS AGAIN. BUT EVEN BIGGER. AND AGAIN. AND AGAIN. AND AGAIN. You isolate half the map but like some sort of infectious disease and rebuild your prison but way to the left, leaving the portion on the right on it's own like a tumor but it's INEVITABLE. IT COMES ANYWAYS.
1 million dollars in debt (thanks unlimited funds option for letting us try to salvage our prison) and a 65000 dollar a day loss and you know what? This is unplayable. And it's day 13. I don't know when this game worked properly last, and it's not getting another chance. UNACCEPTABLE.

Whether you just enjoy simulator games where you can be the dictator of your dreams or even escape the prison you built yourself ( just to find out how easy it really is) this game offers it all. You can go into great detail when exploring your prisoners their backstories if that's what'd you like, or try to build the most profitable prison known to mankind, if that's more your thing.
With Prison Architect still releasing new DLC's up to this day you always get extra-content to spice up the game, and whether you want to include it or not is entirely up to you. I feel like the game is definitely praisable for it's huge diversity in items and ways to shape your prison, therefore being able to speak to almost every gamer.
I'd rate the game a neat 9/10 and I'd recommend buying it yourself if you have some cash laying around.

Story: The story is fine there are about 5 short stories you can run through that are interesting and also teach you how to play the game and deal with different events. Some of the characters are fine a couple are pretty flat, but you only see them a couple of times anyways.
Gameplay & controls: The game ran fine and you can easily get used to a lot of the controls, it took me a while to fully understand a lot of the buttons, but if you were fine at playing something like roller coaster tycoon you should be fine here. You are able to move around buttons and UIs to fit your play style. Two problems though, you can pause and fast forward time in the game and this is pretty helpful, but why does the fast forward buttons have a key bind but not the pause time button which is probably the most important one. (You also can't change any of the key binds in settings from what i could see.) Another problem why does time continue during dialogue? What if someone is being attacked and you're sending officers over then dialogue starts, luckily most of it will start from a phone call which sure you can ignore, but its in the center of your screen so you might accidentally click it. (This is just a tiny nitpick though) There also was this one thing where guards can't see whats going on in family cells unless they enter them even though they have the same doors as normal cells and guards can see through those. Now i could understand that its meant for the privacy of the family, but its also a major problem because for all you know someone could be dead in there (which happens quite a bit). Another thing why can't i make visitor and staff only areas?
Visual design: The game looks great and the character designs are pretty basic yet somehow creative. You start to see repeats in characters pretty quickly, but it isn't that annoying just funny when you see the same three people standing next to each other. The shadows are pretty broken however, you can just turn them off, but they do some pretty weird things like spawning in random empty fields.
Music and SFX: Usually there isn't much music, but when it appears it fits and is very decent. The SFX fits perfectly too. You might want to play something in the background however unless you like listening to metal banging for a couple hours.
Enjoyment: I had fun playing the game and you have a bunch you can do.
Bugs & other problems: Bugs, bugs galore, and there is a major game breaking event that you can't get past without either starting a new game or playing with the code. The CEO asks that you change your food policy to low, but this setting has been edited in a new update and because of this the CEO can't recognize you lowered the policy to low so he fines you 5,000$ every ~2 minutes for about an hour which can dig into your wallet. The only way around this is to create a new game without events on (so he can't call you, but doing so will make the game be less eventful) or you go to the prison code and edit it which i did and it did work. The AI is idiotic too for example a fire started in a cell, to save the people in it i opened the doors to the cells so they could escape, but instead they ran straight through the fire on the opposite side of the door like a paper trying to travel through water they were badly injured or died.
Overall pretty fun if you can ignore all the bugs and problems with the game. Would recommend if you're a fan of tycoon/management type games. Also surprise surprise the game is pretty violent not meant for a young eye, i'm looking at you Daniel you know who you are.

it has a workshop that contains lots and I mean lots of mods however unfortunately you can not use mods or mutators if you are looking to play multiplayer, The game is still coming out with updates, however I find the game very fun regardless
do be aware that the game contains male and female nudity uncensored so keep in mind that when you are paying for you child.

The first problem that most players will run into is a canteen/food problem. With some prisons the canteen will just stop working. While sometimes this is apparently due to a bug, most of the time it is one of 5 problems, but the game has no way of communicating to the player what the issue is: 1) is access. If prisoners must pass through a zone that is not the same type of access zone as the canteen, they cannot pass through, despite prisoners being able to pass through zones not of their type for other tasks (working, doctors, etc). 2) is table space, where you have less tables than demand. 3) is kitchen production, A kitchen, no matter how many people you seem to throw in there, maxes out at roughly 160-180 meals. If you have more prisoners than this you actually have to have a 2nd kitchen suppying it. 4) is timing, where as your prison gets bigger the prisoners cannot get to the canteen in the first hour of mealtime. 5) is just food distribution where randomly, the food distribution in your prison stops working, usually after some major addition/rooms/cells to your prison.
The game randomly crashes, perhaps 1 time for every 30 hours of gameplay, without an autosave.
Guard pavilions create pathing bugs, where guards get stuck and cannot get in/out after awhile and just mill about the entrance, unable to satisfy their staff needs or any other jobs, since they cannot move.
If your prison gets large enough there is simply no way to bring the safety need down, especially if you have violent prisoners in your prison.
If you have violent prisoners, there are no constructions that cannot prevent guards from being ambushed/dying without causing other problems. Armed guard patrols cause a safet issue, pavilions create a pathing issue, and sniper towers don't prevent the attacks.
If you don't have an army of workers and can't unload your prisoners/food off the supply trucks fast enough (by the end of the day) the next day the game will queue up a duplicate set of imports. So when you do work off the supply truck queue, you have 2x-10x the amount of prisoners/food/etc that was requested, depending on how many days it took for the workers to catch up.
I think I have given the game a fair shake. The developers did appear to address several game breaking bugs over the past few years such as the worker bugs where the worker queue would get full of failed tasks and workers would completely stop. But after many years of owning the product, the developers of this game are incapable of putting a version of the game out there that is any fun to play once you pass the 150-450 prisoner mark. It just becomes an exercise in deleting/replacing objects causing pathing bugs, adding/removing workers to deal with queueing bugs, messing around will random food supply options to deal with eating meals, and changing all sorts of things to try to get the safety need satisfied.
The game just becomes overwhelmingly frustrating to play in larger prisons, and I find myself rediscovering this every time I've tried to dust off the game after months of not playing it.

Tho, as I would say in real life. Just watch a few youtube videos on the game to see if it suits your style :3

I can tell you one thing, if that's the plan, sooner or later(probably sooner instead of later) you will run into issues. And Im not talking about the features that only the host has. The bare minimum does not even work at an acceptable level. Disconnects happen all over the place(seriously, google this issue). Does not matter if your game is small or large, it can happen any time. And it will keep happening. And it will not be solved.
COOP/Multiplayer = unplayable. Keep the money in the pocket.

As an example, I'm going to criticize the happiness system: it doesn't matter as much as we'd like to think so. You can give better food, bigger cells, and have a cleaner prison, but it doesn't end up changing much. Prisoners are going to riot even if they're happy, and you'll always find illegal items in your prison. It seems like there's a RNG system, since you can constantly click the search button and you'll find something, in the same place, over and over again. At least that's my theory.
So, what this game offers is a prison building and management simulator; and the building part is quite fun and has a bit of depth, but the management simulator is lackluster. There are no random events, there isn't any choice regarding the staff you hire, nor what they decide to do, and the upgrade system is simplistic and boring. You'll max out the upgrades in a few hours and you'll find yourself with nothing to do except expand the prison, and that's it.
Also, there are loads and loads of bugs.
I'd have put a neutral review instead of a positive one if I could, but since Steam doesn't allow it, I'm going to go for positive, because the first dozen hours or so are really fun and interesting.

Now they're just blatantly ripping off the workshop and selling it as DLC ( worth cash ) without credit to the mod author
I can not possibly support a company that does this shit to it's customers or it's supports

This game is super fun and relaxing. I love how u start with just pure land and build up your super max prison. This game is super chilled and even comes with CO-OP so u can build with your friend and just watch as yout Male/Female prisoners riot and try to escape.
Overall this game is a solid 10/10 from my side

Almost all of my hours were played when this game was developed by Introversion Software. The game was almost entirely bug-free, the updates regular and free, and the game stuck to its core principles while adding cohesive and logical updates.
The game was later sold to Paradox Interactive, and is now a buggy mess. I'm not going to bother recounting the multitude of bugs the game now has, but it's a lot - and most of them are only resolved months after being reported, or not at all. There is no passion for this game from the developers, the only thing that they seem to be able to do is crank out DLC after DLC (there was no DLC for the game under Introversion) while failing to resolve core gameplay bugs.
So much content has been added, and so much of it is either broken, off-brand, gimmicky, or all three at the same time. The quality and polish that Introversion brought to the table when they developed it is long gone, and all that remains is a game that is a buggy mess.
For those who haven't played it before the sale of the IP, they wouldn't know how the game used to be a decently realistic prison simulator with a top-down graphics style. The game is now far more cartoony in nature (not in graphics), and seems to be a fascimile of what it once was.
I can't recommend this game anymore, and I have stopped playing it.
Don't buy - it's not worth the price anymore.

Case 1. The launcher. Paradox has made the game use their useless launcher when there is no need except to collect data. Paradox's launcher is unwieldy and has zero point.
Case 2. The DLC. There is so much content that could have been free from the past developers but Paradox made you pay for more content to a game that can be easily modded. I believe that this DLC should be free and not be paid. I know it takes a ton of time and effort to make updates but it can be free.
Case 3. The bugs. As I have heard it has crashed a lot and has been quite buggy for other users. The game used to be stable until the game became Paradox's.
I do still like the game but, it was better before it was sold. I may use older versions of the game which are better. If you are reading this I would buy the game, it was great and still is a fun concept. I just do not like the current decisions of the Paradox who is ruining this game. Paradox ruined this great game.

The amount of DLC showing up is getting tedious for stuff that was available via mods but its still well worth playing. The only real gripe I have is the tediousness of linking doors to a remote system in larger prisons.... It can legit take hours because each one needs doing separately.

Got a good prison running after many workarounds. Cell grading barely works for prisoners and not at all for crazies. Logistics problems with janitors and gardeners hiding in closets having seizures. Realizing an island full of crazes is not feasible if you want to operate rooms like mail, laundry, workshop, or carpentry because you cannot assign staff or crazies to these rooms.
Cat guards are a shocking shortcut that show how little the developers care. It’s not a new feature when you just change the texture from dog to cat but they still bark are called dogs, dog handlers and live in dog kennels with dog bowls.
Overall the bugs and lack of attention to detail from paradox has eroded a great game. I reached only 120 prisoners before the game started crashing and locking up at random forcing me to quit and I am not sure I will be back. Thanks for the memories but this game is past its best by date.

I cannot recommend this, it feels like, due to Paradox taking over, the life and soul is being sucked out of the game for money. You would also expect, with Paradox having a much larger dev team, that these updates wouldnt break the game, or they would be fixed fast if they did.. this is not the case.

I would strongly advise checking up to date information about the game to determine its current state before buying. Once you have bought it, disable all updates. Only re enable them once Paradox has deigned to fix the multitude of issues they didn't pick up in their consistently shoddy QA.
If you're prepared to put up with that and enjoy management games give it a shot- but you're going to have to micro manage this product if you want a consistent, working experience.
Edit:
First hotfix since the release of the island bound DLC. What's in it? Some none fixes which don't address any of the really gameplay breaking bugs and new features for island bound to address the fact that if you buy new land, it won't contain any land- just water.
That last feature there shows you how much testing they actually did.
Oh, and they completely broke planning too. And staff now open staff doors by eating them (animation bug). Well done Paradox, a hotfix that adds even more bugs in. For the love of god please learn some basic, simple QA.
I'm happy I got so much time in on this game when it was actually the masterpiece all the mainstream reviews paint it as. It's just a mess now and Paradox has done nothing beyond the usual 'we're listening' mummery to solve the severe underlying issues they have introduced.

I'm not a fan of the DLC, and it seems as though Paradox have backed off DLC seeing what a catastrophic failure their attempt at pushing a paid DLC for a game that for a very long time had received free updates from the previous devs.
The game you see today is a far-fetch from what we saw before 2019, and it's a shame the direction it has gone.
But hey, I guess that's what happens when you sell a game to a game conglomerate of the likes of Paradox or EA. :/

I've also had the opportunity to be able to play with friends and create a prison as a team which is great fun and it very helpful, although if you are like myself and need everything perfect and nice looking then unless your friend is the same it's best to stick to solo builds as it can get very frustrating (speaking from experience)
I recommend this game if you are into architecture and simulation games, even if you feel you're not a great builder the game is still fun and you shouldn't let it stop you from getting the game

The game itself is great if you run it in safe 32 bit mode though, but it deserves a huge dislike because of the unwanted, useless and bloatware launcher that is forced down your throat. The extra clicks aka workaround in order to run it in 32 bit mode are not the way I want to play a game in 2020...
