Personally, I liked this game a lot, and I think it's on par with the Sands of Time, although it really shouldn't be compared to the trilogy because it's a completely different game. The graphics are different, the parkour is similar to the trilogy, but it is much more satisfying and smooth, with an addition of a grapple attached to your hand for even more variety. The story has virtually no similarities to the trilogy, but nevertheless it's still a good story.

Actually, the game feels more like a fairy tale rather than a game. Before I was complaining about the 2nd and 3rd PoP being difficult games to beat, but this one was fairly easy and relaxing. The combat was fun and visually appealing, and it took a bit of brain power to complete successfully, rather than spamming the same buttons and combos like in the trilogy.

This game does not have time manipulation like the previous ones, but it does have Elika, a trustworthy and cute sidekick who helps you in combat and parkour. She has to be the most useful AI companion I've ever had in a video game so far. It's not hard to fall in love with her as she helps you complete the game. Speaking of Elika, she never let's you die in the game, so it does feel like this game is geared more towards children, which I don't mind at all.

So, if you're looking for an adventure and a chill game to relax to after work, this is one of the best options out there.

Rebooting the Prince of Persia series yet again, the 2008 game is, for the most part, pretty good, if a bit on the easy side, and is worth a recommendation for the most part.

The big positives are the visuals, which has a nice cel-shaded style and colorful environments. The movement and freerunning sections also play nicely for the most part, save for a few moments where things can get stiff, and the character interactions between the Prince and Elika add some good flavor to the game.

As for the negatives, they mainly involve the combat that, while nice-looking, is pretty basic. Running around the environments to get collectibles can also be pretty repetitive near the end of the game, and the different powers are all pretty much variations of ways to get travel around the environment (the swinging and jump powers are practically the same mechanically. They just have different animations). Finally, the epilogue DLC for the game was never released for the PC version, so you’d either have to get a console or emulate it, though this game, the DLC, and its Nintendo DS sequel all end with cliffhangers, which is shame.

Prince of Persia is, for what it is, a pretty good experience. It does feel lacking in combat, and it is incredibly easy, but looking at it as a freerunning game with a decently interesting story, it’s worth at least a look.

Breathtaking graphic design and excellently written dialogue make up for this 15-year and at times repetitive platformer. However, if you do not fall into the trap of comparing this title to other PoP's and consider it in the context of 2008 when it was released, it is difficult to notice anything wrong with this game. It surely deserves more recognition than most reviewers are giving.

I don't recommend buying this game since it is an incomplete game with the DLC not available for PC gamers.

The gameplay mechanics are surprisingly smooth, considering the developer. But the fighting mechanics sucks as it's hard to move or perry attacks during boss fights.

In terms of the story, it was good. The overall gameplay was boring as the game entered a repeat loop quickly. Something even the titular character mentions himself during gameplay
The one thing I would like to point out is the game design. The level design and the open-world were just beautiful. The scenery is breathtaking. The story was also enjoyable, sad that the series got scrapped before it could take off.

Overall, I would again recommend against buying this game; unless it is on sale and is dead cheap.

This does not hold up well. Not sure what is going on but The game took an hour to load. anyway, it does not look as good as I remember it. It was fine 12 years ago but just skip it now. This was a diversion from the true prince of persia series and does not make sense in the overall arc story.

A brilliant new world engine. They should have used this to remake all 4 games but, clearly, the parent company saw a much larger team needed and so they let sleeping dogs lie by leaving the earlier games as they were - warts and all. This game has beauty in every aspect. Slightly buggy finale but overall the crown in the PoP verse.

I think a game doesn't have to be super realistic or super modern to have good graphics. It has to have a character, a style. At least that's all I need to be able to enjoy and appreciate the game's graphics. This game is one of the games that has achieved that. It is a game that differs from other Prince of Persia games and reveals its own character with its colors and style. It also has a story that is quite intriguing and draws you in. The action mechanics are also very enjoyable. It is a nice game, different from the other games in the series, which I can definitely recommend.

Prince of Persia (reboot) is an action-adventure/platformer with combat being focused on duels (2vs1). The advertised AI-companion is more of a utility than an actual AI-controlled character - all functions (attacks, saves, etc.) have strict triggers (mostly, the keys pressed) and performed regardless of the companion's location (i.e. if Elika is far when you need to extend your jump, she just teleports next to you when you press the key).

The game supports 5-button mice and does not require the Ubisoft DRM to run.

There is no connection to the previous games in the Prince of Persia series. Also there is no prince or Persia in the game.
The post-epilogue DLC and the sequel are not available on PC.

My scores for this game
Story : 7/10
The story of the game was a fabulous story, the story was very good for me. Just next to the game, the story of the game is all that I did not understand at all.
Graphics : 10/10
I put the game graphics in ultra mode. The game graphics were great. I compared the graphics to borderlands 2 and they had almost close graphics.
Musics : 10/10
The game tracks were very consistent with the sights of the game, so repeatedly played, but I did not get tired.
Details : 7/10
There were effects in some areas, but in some areas there was no effect or something.
Game play : 6/10
The gameplay becomes very repetitive after finishing a part and only parkour, easy and uniform bass fights, after going to the second zone, you only have to do repetitive tasks.
Variety : 6/10
The variety was very low. The only reason I got a higher score was that I never felt tired when playing the bridge because there was a princess with us in the game.
Characterization : 8/10
Much attention had been paid to the prince's character, but the princess had not received much attention at all. S's face was very flat.
Optimization : 10/10
Clear.
Bugs : i dont see bug.
Note : No need to connect to Ubiaoft Connect
Description : The game parkour was enjoyable, the great graphics were not tired at all, it was very great.
Overall score : 7.1/10
I recommended.

Despite enjoying the game quite a bit from time to time, I can't in good conscience recommend it to anyone unless they are a diehard fan of the Prince of Persia series like myself. This is for many reasons, most of all the combat system. They brought it down to a single enemy at all times, never do you fight more than one enemy at a time and only between areas unless it's one of the 6 fights of one of the 4 bosses. Yes, you have to fight the same boss 6 times. I'm not even sure if I can in good conscience call the combat system a combat system, it's more like a QTE system. You get hit by an enemy? QTE. The enemy parries you? QTE You put your enemy against a wall? QTE The enemy gets you against a wall? QTE. OH and don't forget the random QTE enemy attack that happens to come at you as you were trying to attack him so it fails right away. Besides the QTEs (which as I said are much too frequent), the combat can be rather slow as the Prince just walks around unless you abuse your acrobatics button to do a dodge towards the opponent. The BEST part about the fights is the fact that if you get to them fast enough you can skip them (not including the bosses). The game feels like a cheap rip off of Shadow of the Colossus, but with a Prince of Persia acrobatic skin. In a very few enemies, enjoy the landscape kind of way. Not to mention the fact that the game lacks any form of difficulty because the main female character in the game has magic in which she'll save you should you be about to die, even if she is indisposed. That being said, the acrobatics system is pretty great, but I can't say it's any better than that of PoP games of the past. The characters of this game is where the game really thrives.. kinda... I really liked Elika, despite the fact that fighting with her can be annoying from time to time cause if you mess up with her she'll go flying and be KO'd for a short while making some bosses unbeatable for a short while, but that's no fault of her character, it's the shitty combat system that is to blame. If you want to play a Prince of Persia game, play one of the Sands of Time trilogy, or even Forgotten Sands. Do not under any circumstances buy this game unless you are a diehard Prince of Persia fan like myself and only when it's on sale. That being said I did 100% the game getting all the light seeds and whatnot... To reiterate, Characters: Good, Acrobatics: Good, Story: OK, Combat: Worst in gaming history from a big company like Ubisoft. So... if you're a giant Prince of Persia series fanboy like myself, buy the game when it's on sale for $2, cause that's the most it's worth, otherwise, try Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time cause despite being a good 10 years older, it's 1000% a better game.

The most unique and interesting out of the Prince of Persia games, even though it might not be the best.
This game has a straight up awesome vibe to it. The artstyle is awesome and the graphics still hold up today. What absolutely carries this game though is the chemistry between the two leads, The Prince and Elika. Their snarky sarcastic back and forth is delightful.
The thing you will be doing the most of in this game is the platforming. And while it is nothing special it does the job. It's your basic prince of Persia platforming. the game is also extremely forgiving, You cant really die in this game. If you faIl a platforming segment Elika will just catch you before you plummet to your death and put you back on the nearest platform.

The combat is a weird one in this game. Every fight is a 1v1 and while it looks really flashy and cool its nothing to write home about and after a while it starts to feel repetitive and boring, especially near the end of the game. But i still found it enjoyable, mostly because it felt different than what I am used to with PoP.
The story is passable but i was left unsatisfied with the ending. The journey was worth it though! And I would definitely recommend this game if you want a different kind of PoP game.

Alright. SO
Like every other POP game, you gotta do some work.
Turn on V-sync in the options before you start the game, this way you can get past the title screen when you start the game. After that, go into general controller settings on Steam and turn off Xbox controller support. This will make your controls less, uh, special.
That’s all you have to do to get the game to work on modern systems. Do not listen to the man in the darkness telling you download controller profiles and DXD workarounds, he is a snake of tongue and also will put a finger into your turn cannon if you go down the dark alley with him.

Prince of Persia is a reboot of the 2003 series which is a reboot of the 1989 series. You play as the Prince, a thief and grave robber looking for his donkey named after the love interest from the last game. Oh sure, so when he does it he’s a dashing rogue. When I do it I’m arrested for breaking into the morgue.

The Prince runs into Elika, a mysterious woman with the powers to make your sword combos look cool. After helping Elika fight off some goons, the Prince decides he’s going to help Elika, like, totally get back at her dad by saving the world from a world eating dark god.
Okay, hold on.

Prince of Persia, or Prince of Persia 2008, or “The Cell Shaded one”, or “The one where you collect orbs” is an action platformer where you travel with Elika from area to area, doing jungle jim levels in your journey to defeat the four guardians or revenants or Servant or whatever they’re calling them. Each Servant has four towers you have to complete before they can be defeated, which each tower having a certain ability tied to them you can only obtain by collecting enough light seeds to unlock them.

Its kind of sad how dirty this game was done, just playing it it feels like a rush job, I don’t know how true that is, but corporate meddling probably had something to do with how this game was released. Like, don’t get me wrong, its a really pretty looking game, but cell shading will do that for you, Wind Waker came out in 2002 and it still looks great.

Each area is basically the same, you do some jumping, activate an ability, exorcise the fertile ground, probably sword fight a servant, rinse and repeat. You do this until all of the Servants are defeated and you can go complete the game.
I have absolutely nothing else to say about the gamplay. The game is only about 6 hours long, but if you remove the light seed gathering, you have maybe 4 or so hour so gameplay. The combat is alright, but even that comes down to how long you can string together moves before you can’t anymore.

The Prince and Elika kind of save the game altogether. They’re actually really cute together, and have a lot of dialogue. You can miss basically 95% of their character development if you don’t stop every now and then and press LB on the controller or whatever it is on the keyboard. You won’t even really learn anything about Nolan North Prince if you don’t do this.
I mean it, they just kind of get attached to one another if you don’t stand there for a bit and let them talk, its really weird.

Other than that, there are a lot of animations between the two. Not only is Elika an extension to your combat system, but she also helps you navigate the world using her SPECIAL LIGHT POWERS. But when you’re just moving around, you have cutsie little animations. Elika will hang from your neck and on your back when you’re climbing vines. The Prince will swing around her by the hands when you’re balancing on catwalks, catch her and help her grab on to ledges, and even catch her when you drop from high places.
Its cute. Remember cute? Before games got all teeth grinding and angry?

I kind of wanted to see more of this PoP universe, I feel like if they were given more time, and maybe an actual sequel, we could have seen more of this world. It feels magical, with its paint-brush world and Middle-Eastern inspired music, it would be a place I’d actually want to explore instead of being trapped in the Prince of Persia version of Flint Michigan.

There was an epilogue DLC for Prince of Persia, but it only came out on Xbox 360 and PS3, so you’ll have to look it up online if you have neither of those consoles, or just don’t want to buy the game again and pay full price for DLC from 2009.
There was also an ACTUAL sequel to Prince of Persia called Prince of Persia: The Fallen King. But it was only released on the Nintendo DS in 2008. Both games plus the DLC end on cliffhangers.

Good lord.

If you were a fan of the 2008 reboot, hey man, tough break. The series got done dirty, and it could have been something truly special. I don’t know what the story behind this game is, but I want to assume corporate meddling just because I always assume that and my favor hat brand is Tinfoil.

The game is good for a single player through, at least to me. If you’re one of those people that play this game every year, then hey good for you.
But I also want to look at your blood because clearly you’re not human.
Give me your blood.

Prince of Persia (2008) gets 6 messed up jumps out of 10.

The first lighter was produced in 1816.

Join the curator, I tried parkour once and hurt myself.

After playing the entire collection that's available on Steam I'm giving a short review on all of these.

This one surprised me. I left it for last, and it's actually very enjoyable. It's simple, but after a lot of rage inducing and difficult moments from the rest of the series, it was a nice one to end on. You cannot die. You have a partner where no matter what happens, she will save you. If you fall off a platforming section, she will grab you and put you back on the platform that you started from. If you 'die' on the extremely sparse combat sections, she will just save you in the nick of time.

Great artstyle, rewarding as you clear the Fertile Grounds, the depressing evil-ridden world turns more and more into a lush vibrant landscape which you platform back through. Speaking on platforming? Absolutely brilliant. The biggest positive of the game is the platforming. It's so fluid, the animation is a joy and you feel in total control all the time. Less than desirable combat, which is thankfully rare. Mediocre characters and story. It's just okay. They seem good and interesting at the start but you'll get more annoyed and tired of the jokes and repetition of 'we have to find a way out of here' or 'this is the plan again, in case you forgot' everytime you clear a fertile land.

Wanted to try to play this old skool game again. After figuring out that you have to change your resolution (1440p) in the menu before launching the game I launched the game, clicked new game. Game froze up. I checked some other reviews and they seem to have the same issue. This needs to be resolved. Even though the game is really cheap in current state you cannot play it.

Edit: Seem to have gotten it to work after turning on VSync before launching the game. Will update review in the near future.

so here's my review:

Pros:
+ great storytelling
+ love the world and level design
+ awesome music scoring
+ EXCELLENT CEL SHADING GRAPHICS, IT'S 2021 BUT THE GRAPHICS ARE STILL RELATE TILL RIGHT NOW
+ EXCELLENT PoP WALL CLIMBING VIBES
+ love the final battle
+ love Elika

Cons:
- Sometimes it gave you repetitive feels as long as you met the bosses
- you must always fight the boss boss and boss, i think it'll be better and more challenging if they gave more normal enemies.
- not fan enough with the combat system in this game. i prefer the original trilogy combat system.

buy it when discount, it worth every penny.

Prince of Persia is a very stylish looking game graphically. It's a combination of art-deco and detailed cel-shading which I give this praise for. That's about the only thing this has going for it however. The game's action is severely limited to only allow the player to execute movement along walls or jumps in specific locations which ends up making this not flow well, or at all. Fighting is also heavily scripted only permitting attacks to be executed at precise moments. As it is the game feels very clunky and frustrating to a point where it's not worth putting any effort into playing it. The game play is that bad. I was looking for something more along the lines of Broderbund's first two games in the series with updated graphics and this installment of the franchise misses all of the important marks in that regard. I'd avoid this, even on sale.

Prince of Persia 2008 is the 4th installment in the PoP series, they completely changed the art direction in this one from previous games and i think its beautiful graphics still hold up to this day much better then the older ones. The platforming in this game is top notch it cant get much better then this one, on the other hand the combat is not that great and u can insta kill most monsters and bosses by pushing them outside of the arena but overall really good game would totally recommend to any platformers lovers

This version of Prince of Persia is a slight remaster of the original with some noticeable graphic and technical upgrades that make the game way more tolerable in 2021. I didn't realize this initially when I started the series on Steam and was honestly not looking forward to jumping into this first Prince of Persia game. But after installing the game and seeing the improvements made by Ubisoft I was pleasantly surprised and had a way better time for it. I would largely compare this game to more of a platformer than a combat heavy game like some of the sequels (very similar to the first Jak and Daxter compared to 2 and 3) but nonetheless it is a fun entry point to the series if you are looking for a fun time.

It has no memorable puzzles, sadly.

Platforming has cinematic animations that are fun took look at. Gameplay is not always satisfying because it requires too few inputs, though.

It does look a bit dated by now and it was not a visual masterpiece back upon release, but the art style is still pleasing.

The interactions and dialogue between the Prince and Elika make the story work and are a highlight of the game. Lighthearted, funny stuff.

Technically it is open world, but using fast travel and playing as linearly as possible seems more appropriate as there are no side activities to do, it's pretty much all platforming with a bit of generic combat here and there. You do have to replay areas to collect light to be able to advance anyway.

Overall a fun casual experience that won't blow your mind away, but is worthy of Prince of Persia name.

First playthrough review time.

Completed 100% of the game which includes collectables. It is a reboot series of Prince of Persia where the story line is not connected to any other series of the franchise. The graphics are absolutely nice. It is the only Prince of persia game where the graphics make think about just how beautiful they look. Game mechanics are pretty similar to the prequals with few new abilities and actions.Dialogues and random speech in the game made the game more interactive to the gameplay. The game can be directly played without any previous knowledge of prince of persia series because this is a reboot of the franchise.

Skins can be unlocked in the game which are officially provided .It can be unlocked In the Extras menu, navigate to the Skin Manager and click on Redeem Code. Enter the following codes for the desired effect:

13372805 - Unlocks the Altair (from Assasin's Creed) costume for the Prince
52585854 - Unlocks the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time costumes for The Prince and Princess

Not a strictly awful game but cons far outweigh the pro's

Gameplay is very boring and restrictive
combat feels clunky an un refined
Traversing is kinda fun but still very restrictive and you can only jump to things in the specific sequence they set up, and you will pretty much have to travel through every path 2, once beat the level, a second time to collect all the orbs that show up after, that are needed to progress the game.
some puzzles were cool but basic

Story is pretty good atleast, if you get over the fact that the Prince is just Nolan North playing Nolan North.
the story is the prince (they have no real name fore him) gets stranded in the desert looking for his donkey and get mixed up with a princess named Elika who's father unleashes an angry god, and now you 2 need to work together to seal the angry god away. as the game goes you Elika form a bond, and the banter between the 2 is actually pretty enjoyable. Sadly the ending Sucks, it's just subverting expectation for the sake of it and feels like it was done for the sake of a sequel that will never happen.

This game just did not age well, and really the only reason to replay it is if you played it as a kid (like me) and want to revisit it. other then that it's not really worth the time

Just wanna say that this PoP is my childhood. Absolutely fell in love with the character design and the gameplay back when I was a kid, watching my cousin play it. It's really sad that Ubisoft didn't even port the epilogue to PC. I can (not really) accept that there probably won't be anymore PoP under the 2008/Reboot line, but at least port the epilogue.

+ Looks nice
+ Nolan North
that's about it....

- Very basic story
- Very creepy/gross/boring dialogue
- Lots of key story dialogue is *optional* and feels VERY disjointed
- Slow game progression > collect orbs, go to next area, collect more, get new power, backtrack for more orbs, etc.
- Repetitive > You only face a few *different* enemies and all the combat is the same
- Clunky controls > QTEs display a symbol not the key or button that corresponds to said symbol

All in all this is better than Forgotten Sands, but just play the originals (PoP, PoP: Shadow & Flame, PoP3D) or the Sands of Time series (minus Forgotten Sands).

Prince of Persia from 2008 was something. Back in 2008 games were focus on FPS and TPS with the popularity of RPG growing exponentially thanks to the open worlds and people was not prepare for the Prince this time.

I would like to say how this is probably my second favorite PoP game (just behind Sands of Time) and the reason it's simple: How the developers made the mechanics of the game to show you the story they wanted to tell us.

Fluidity using a new parkour system and dialogue is everything on this game and even when people said how the game could be repetitive at times I never feel bore through my play through. Our duo on this adventure have amazing personalities and I promise you how the game will make you feel empathy for the protagonists. This is not the classic story about the hero and princess and I hope you get it at the end of the game.

I don't want to make any spoilers about the game and I recommend you just go into the game without any type of information or guides. This also applies to other PoP games.

I hope you can enjoy the game as much as I did and if you want to share your toughs about the ending feel free to leave a comment on this review :D

The year is 2019, My father died and i graduated, worked and bought a good laptop and the first thing i did was downloading this game and playing it on and on. i have so many memories with this game, good and bad ones. i don`t care what others may say but this is the best Prince of Persia for me.

imo, game not aged well. All visual aspects are looking decent, but game mechanics is poor and world is kinda empty.
Game is very friendly and don't punish you much for mistakes. You literally can't die, you'll just be thrown back a little. Only flying segments was lil frustrating. So if you looking for something not very challengeble, this gonna fit right.

ARTFUL, COLORFUL, WONDERFUL. The combos are fun, the game ran without any problems on windows 10 for me.

This game was either loved or hated. Its either a masterpiece unlike any other, or you were angry it didnt follow the other games of PoP. I personally fell in love with this game and am grateful it was developed in every way different and better than all other PoP games. Its story line is fresh, captivating, and fluid. The game play, though easy very very easy, is enjoyable, fluid, and fast. The art style for the time was out of this world. The soundtrack, is AAA top tier and should win some award. If you buy this game, be ready for an easy, enjoyable journey that grabs a hold of you. Dont expect a challenge, or a long time.

The experience is ruined by the lack of difficulty, the slow pace of the platforming and the incredible amount of backtracking necessary to unlock new abilities and areas. I'd probably enjoy the game much more if all the animations were twice as fast, all abilities were available from the start and there were no light seeds to collect. I beat it once as a kid and it was apparently enough, because every time I've tried to come back to it I give up after a couple hours. The story is also very uninspired, and you'll find yourself groaning at how often the game stops you from progressing just so the characters can say a couple lines about where you need to go next. A shame because the artistic direction is excellent and I'm sure there was potential in there.

Also note that this game has nothing in common with the other 3D Perince of Persia games. Not the same characters, not the same gameplay.

If you intend to play it regardless, remember to save manually as the auto-saves are far apart, and if the game doesn't launch be sure to activate V-sync.

Manages to be challenging without being punishing. It's much more like a rhythm platformer than a puzzle one. You almost never sit in a big room trying to calculate the obstacle path to the next area; rather you see a thing, jump on it, and then press the right key for each obstacle as it comes up, keeping with the flow in a relaxed trance. Art and looks really hold up well. It also has some interesting design stuff with locations, pathing, and companion npcs. Almost the whole game is a collection of escort quests, but it avoids all the usual escort pitfalls. The ending is also great imo, though a lot of people hated it for some reason.

One of ubisoft's underrated gems. Absolutely love this game. Most of my friends have a bad review on this game because they compare it to the other prince of persia games, but this game is like an alternate dimension in the universe of prince of persia and the moment the game starts and you lay eyes on the prince and princess, you know you're gonna love it. The story is epic, the soundtrack, the characters. This is live heaven to me.

I originally played this on PS3 and loved it. Just got it on sale for $2 - can report this PC port runs great, playing with a Xbox 360 controller. No frills in graphics settings options (resolution, v-sync, AA up to 4x, 3 graphics quality settings).

FIRST THING: don't worry that the Epilogue DLC is missing from the PC version. I played it on console and honestly did not like it. It is very linear, a few hours long, removes the grand vistas + exploration and light seed collecting, rehashes enemies, and basically adds nothing to the story.

The fun in this game is in the easy, flowing traversal combined with exploration of the *majestic* locales to find light seeds to advance the story. The art direction is superb and unique, great detail in textures and architecture.

You can't 'die' in the traditional sense so you never feel like you lose too much progress if you fall. You can't be killed during enemy encounters so you have to grind through them.

The 'boss' battles can get repetitive since you fight each boss (there are 4 different regional bosses) about 5 or 6 times, and so like 20-24 total forced boss encounters over the course of the whole game. There's no differing technique, all enemy encounters in the game are the same (except the Warrior who can't be hurt with attacks). The final boss is the same way, and mostly applies your parkour traversal skills.

As far as puzzles: each of the 4 regions has 1 puzzle obstacle to overcome to proceed overall. They involve rotating levers/switches in the right combination, a few can be tricky but I got past them all on my own with some time and patience. I expect there are plenty of walkthough guides if you get stuck. Otherwise most problem solving in the game is exploring and analyzing the environments to figure out creative traversal paths to get as many light seeds to proceed. Always be looking around, above, underneath things, over egdes wherever you go to find less obvious light seeds :)

A Fight of Light And Darkness

Prince of Persia (2008) is a reboot of the PoP franchise, which was met with a very mixed reception and unfairly so. The game was misunderstood and I think people would be kinder to the game, if they knew the conga line of Assassin's Creed games we got instead of new PoP games.

The game's main protagonist, the unnamed Prince, is a Prince in the name only. An adventurer, thief and a grave robber, the Prince gets lost in the desert with a donkey full of loot and runs into the second main character - Elika, a princess of ancient kingdom falling into ruin. The Prince unwillingly gets dragged into war between two ancient gods, and helps Elika stave off the darkness. The story is simple, but well written with clear zoroastrian influences, which is something you don't see often. The stellar banter between the main duo is also worth mentioning.

What is most striking about the presentation is its beautiful, cell-shaded artstyle. The game looks really good even more than decade later and it's really pleasant on the eyes. The world and characters are really well designed - I especially dig the Prince's design - and there are plenty great locations that feel like straight out of Arabian Nights. Inon Zur and Stuart Chatwood did fantastic job with the soundtrack, and it complements the game perfectly, with its very adventurous feeling with clear middle eastern inspiration.

Gameplay is where people start to...disagree. The elephant in the room is that there is no Game Over screen. Not once. Whenever you are about to receive fatal damage - whether fall or from enemy, Elika saves you, returning you to earlier platform or restoring the enemy's health. This is what bothered a lot people, claiming it made game too easy, which I think is missing the point of a really clever checkpoint system, that lets you get back into the game much quicker.

Unlike SoT trilogy, the meat of this gameplay focuses more on acrobatics and platforming. It has a very rhythmic and zen-like feeling to it. The combat is solely 1vs1, focusing more on using the right attack at the time, rather than mechanical difficulty. Neither platforming nor combat would be possible for the Prince or Elika to achieve alone, so they have to work together to overcome the obstacles. And boy, does it look fantastic in motion. They really went all out with the animations here and it's fantastic to look at. The game is moderately long - around 10 hours, but I feel the game was already kind of pushing how enjoyable the gameplay can stay.

The other issue a lot of people had was the ending, which a lot of people missed the point of, as it wasn't explicitly elaborated on, the player had to connect the dots together. Or well, there was a proper explanation of it in the Epilogue DLC, which for some stupid reason($$$) was only released on Xbox 360.

Bottom line is, I think if Prince of Persia 2008 got released today, it's very likely it be looked on much more positively, the game was ahead of its time. If you are looking for a good game to unwind and relax to or/and want to see some more unique setting in a game that takes you on an adventure, I definitely recommend this.

Let's pray that Ubisoft doesn't completely ruin the Sands of Time remake while we are at it too.

I'll be quite honest, I am brand new to steam and PC gaming as a whole. I loved this game back when it released and happened to catch it on sale for 2$. As my first intro to the seemingly infinite library of PC gaming this was a wonderful start for me. I am enjoying this game beyond words. The combat loop while repetitive and simple feels extremely satisfying and smooth. The graphics hold up well and everything runs like a dream. I have had no issues with any glitches of any kind. I know most people are torn on this game due to it being a significant departure from the original series however the story is sweet and simple. The gameplay is straight forward and reminds me why I fell in love with this genre. I wish they had made a sequel to this game. I would say it is well worth even paying the full price. In my opinion if you are a fan of platforming games or semi open world games this is a no brainer.

A pretty decent 7/10 game with some questionable design choices

Great art-style, fun traversal mechanics.

The combat looks and feels cool, but often feels like a glorified QTE fest instead of a dynamic system like in previous entries. The bossfights are also kinda lacking and feels too easy as well.

The story and the dynamic between the Prince and Elika basically carry the whole thing. Recommended on a sale.

This is my third prince of persia, and the best, Gameplay is excelent, the graphics are nice, the game is large... Any more?
The cell-shading effect is very good, I have not found anything in the game that I did not like, everything is excellent. There is only a small detail a bit ugly, the shadows are many mountain peaks, but well, esdel 2008!
The soundtrack I liked it because it fits perfectly with the atmosphere every time I hear music I get wanting to play jajaj.
ABSTRACT: This game is a 100/100, although I liked, nothing m disappointed, now you can find for less than € 20, you know, buy it. Collapse

My Personal Thoughts on Prince of Persia 2008 Reboot

Let me begin this review by saying I have mixed feelings with this game and if Steam had an option to give a neutral rating that’s what I would have done here.

Starting with visuals, this game looks beautiful! It could be the most beautiful game in Prince of Persia series up-to date (we’ll see how the Sands of Time Remake stacks up against this one). The art direction is great! The music is good and the calm music got stuck inside my head, great job by Inon Zur (also the composer of Fallout 3 and 4). The gameplay is solid, platforming is fluid and works smoothly. The voice acting is very charming.

Elika is my favorite part of this game and her character is very deeply integrated into the gameplay as well as the story. In fact, the chemistry and interactions between Elika and Prince is the only thing that kept me deleting this game altogether. The voice actress for Elika did a great job with voice acting and displaying the emotions of the character throughout the game. She has an even greater role in the story and gameplay. Nolan North did a fantastic job in voicing the unnamed Prince whose name is not revealed in the game. I must add the voice acting for Price felt a bit too corny because the whole time it felt like Nolan North was playing Nathan Drake with jokes and childish humor every 30 seconds. The good thing about it is that it works for this reboot.

You might feel a bit disconnected if you play this game back-to-back with other Prince of Persia games as the Prince has never been a cocky and funny character! Ubisoft decided to make this into a full reboot from scratch going so far as to completely avoid talking or giving any kind of references to the Sands of Time trilogy or talking about Prince’s backstory, his origins or any mention of details like the Dagger of Time.

The combat is completely different from other Prince of Persia games. Ubisoft decided to switch to one-on-one fights as opposed to fighting hordes of enemies at any time, as in the Sands of Time, Warrior Within and The Two Thrones. There are many changes which makes this a very unique game especially coming from a Western developer. You do not die in this game, Elika comes to your rescues every time you fall off the cliff or lose your health. I found it interesting…She also helps you fight during combat and her character can be upgraded using skill points. Elika is pretty fun to have around.

POP is one of my favorite game series and as a kid I would replay the classic Prince of Persia games several times a year on my PC and cousins Playstation 2. However, I’d have to be honest with you guys. It seemed like a great game for the first two hours or so but as I kept playing more, I noticed the cracks.

Now comes the ugliest part. Part of the reason why I won’t recommend this game to anyone is because how boring this game gets! Prince of Persia has a very reasonable length of 15-20 hours but it felt like I’ve wasted 60 hours doing the same repetitive tasks. Unlocking new areas requires you to grind for light seeds which was a pain. The progression is extremely repetitive, dull and boring. When people say Ubisoft games are repetitive and boring it's THIS RIGHT HERE!! Combat only includes boss fights and this might feel like a good thing but it gets worse when I’ll tell you that there are just 4 bosses as far as I remember and you have to fight them over and over and over. I didn’t count how many times you’re supposed to fight each big bad but it’s about 5 times each (so you’re supposed to fight the same four bosses for about 20 times with occasional one-on-one fight against the main antagonist.

The story isn’t interested. Common themes include corruption and greed. Nothing new…There’s a strong message there but the execution isn’t handled very well. It’s really disappointing to give this a negative review especially considering the effort went into making this reboot. I wished they had turned this into an animated show with the same cell shaded visuals and voice actors!

Also, the PC version lacks the game’s true ending…. I know my reaction would be the same as you. The main game ends with let’s just say a cliffhanger and there’s a console exclusive DLC that continues the story. Also, if you were wondering to get the game on PS3 solely for the ending don’t bother as it doesn’t get anywhere. Ubisoft hasn’t provided an answer to why they chose to skip Epilogue on PC. Poor sales might be my best guess! The devs originally designed to make this into a two-player co-op experience but later ditched the idea and instead opted to make Elika an A.I controlled companion. I’m glad they chose to go this route.

Final Thoughts

There’s no edgelord rock or any epic moments we’ve come to love and expect from a Prince of Persia game but there’s a great game somewhere in there in this reboot. If you’re willing to grind to the end then you should probably keep an eye out for this during a sale.

This review isn't about the game, but the port. Terribly Optimized, with regular stuttering and MEMORY LEAKS, Abnormally high GPU usage (even at everything at lowest) and various other bugs like crashing and stuff like missing jumps, grabs, elika getting stuck, And PC never got the Epilogue DLC (not that it was great to begin with) due to 'high piracy numbers'.

For the true experience, play the game on PS3/Xbox 360. This ain't it chief.

The stills looks as good. Aged pretty well for the cell shaded Graphics.
Good times on the Xbox 360.
I never did beat the game and for its current price its not a terrible deal. I recommend it.
Been playing with the Xbox One controller. I believe when I plugged the Xbox 360 USB it updated the drivers and now the games see the Xbox One as a 360 controller and the game now controls well. Originally my Xbox One controller would not work well with the game since the right thumb stick reacted like a mouse cursor so I was not able to play properly.
Yeah weird but if anyone has the issue as I did hope this helps

Game is fun, so many memories playing this back in the day. Its way better if you have an Xbox controller. DS4 did not work for me and playing with K+M hurts the game a lot.

A whole different approach to the Prince of Persia series. This game is not quite similar to the previous ones as it is more platform oriented with specific fixed fights. You cannot die either due to the mechanics. The graphics are the best in the series and follow the Borderlands (or the other way round?) comic type.

It gets kinda boring after a while however, since it's very very repetitive.

Amazing, amazing I must say about this game!

Even it’s a 2008 game it still looks really good. It’s so much better to play this game on pc, rathen than console version.

Overall Im happy I played done with the story, from my childhood I never made it that far.

After delaying playing this game for a better part of a decade and finally finishing it I unfortunately can't recommend it.
The platforming is generic and unchallenging and the story itself is ok (even if extremely generic) but the ending is just horrible. ~SPOILER~
I wanted the Prince to become a better man with Elika's influence but he just ends up releasing the monster they worked so hard to banish just to save her once again... I wanted Elika's father to give his life in change of hers or even for the good God that they're always mentioning to give her life back but what we get is a bitter bitter ending
.
It's a shame that this game didn't really meet my expectations. I've always loved the art style but that doesn't really make up for all the other flaws.

Prince of Persia (2008) is one of the most beautiful art piece in digital media. It is an experience

As a game, it doesn't deliver what it needs to be a good one. The mission structure is highly repetitive. The platforming isn't quite challenging in terms of complexity. There's not much to interact with in the world other than for traversal purpose. The combat is no more than a sequence of QTE.

Although, as an art piece, it does deliver. The stylized art ages like a fine wine. It feels like a realized 3D watercolor painting. The city is beautifully designed, it gives you the massive sense of scale. Traversing the world feels like one continuous set of dance. Animation transit fluidly between input. The script and voice acting are engaging enough to keep you entertained until the end. The dynamic between Prince and Elika is kind of entertaining. It also has one of the best soundtrack which will take you straight to the other world. The ending is quite a roller coaster. Overall, the game solidly delivers a beautiful experience with a high sense of magical feeling to it.

Prince of Persia | September 18, 2020 | [★★★★]

The story started on the spot which doesn't give you a breather to simmer it, but at least they redeemed the pace halfway through it. If I remember correctly, Prince wasn't that humorous which is the exact opposite on this game. Uncharted IP still wasn't that big when this was released so Nolan North just acted it out like he was Nathan Drake here.

A really fun and engaging parkour mechanics that easily forgive players if they fail. There a lot of features from the Trilogy (which I played on PS2) that carries to this game; most noticeable were the one on one combat that in some way - I love or hate on that series. They somehow scrap the 'Sands' which is the main focus of its predecessor and switched it with a magical theme.

An immense beautiful world not just in a graphical way, but also the design and landscape point. In General, this is the kind of game where you just lost time while having enjoyment playing it.

Definitely an underrated gem! This PoP title offers a great open-world adventure (an improvement over its predeccessors) in a dream-like setting. Both the story and the characters are quite enjoyable. There's one little detail that I don't like though: we can't have steam achievements, while the console version does include trophies. However, in this price it's absolutely worth buying.

I played this mostly on the Xbox 360, and picked it up on sale. By far my favorite in the series in terms of gameplay, score, and story. It's a shame people pilloried this game when it was released, and the DLC epilogue isn't even available on PC.

Honestly people give too much slack to this iteration of the prince for not being sands of time this game in itself was made to be different and a calm experience and the death mechanic (or lack of) maybe its biggest critique but its far from it elika saving you as far as it is concerned is penalty enough instead an obligatory game over screen and loading
id reccomend this game highly for the experience of its beautiful art style and the fluid gameplay just dont expect a sands of time clone

This Prince of Persia is totally different than any other Prince of Persia games. There are no hundreds of enemies. Enemies are very few and mostly 1:1 combat where you need to dodge, parry, and combo attacks. Graphics is simply beautiful even in 2020 standard. Because it has a unique art style like the Borderlands 2. Simple but beautiful. Which made it timeless. Music is also awesome. And above all, the unexpected story ending. This game is a old Ubi masterpiece.

If you can ignore the fact that this game has nothing to do whatsoever with prince of persia, it's really enjoyable. This game is inspired, the gameplay has a smooth flow to it, the dialogue is entertaining enough and the story is somewhat interesting. Combat is satisfying but being immortal makes it less tense. Overall it's a cool game.

Prince of Persia 2008 is one of the nicest looking, nicest sounding, most charming titles Ubisoft ever released. It's also one of the most boring ones.
The simplicity of the gameplay combined with the artificial game lengtheners that Ubisoft likes to plague its games with, makes for a journey that you just wish to be over with as soon as possible.
The combat, or the lack thereof, puts the games pace to a crawl between the fun boss sections. You only get to fight one enemy in between maps and the rest is just platforming.
Despite all of the weird pacing issues the game itself is not too long so if you got 6h to spare it'll be a pleasant ride. However if you're here expecting a POP game first and foremost, you're most likely gonna end your playthrough in disappointment.

A must buy if you are fan of this franchise, i had never played this game or any other of this franchise, kind of missed out on it. i was skeptical about buying a game from 2008, but it was surprisingly good, slow paced, kinda repetitive and monotonous, but cant blame the game. even after 11 years of release it amused me for many hours and i took my own time completing it.

Amazing platforming game, with gorgeous cell-shading graphics, a beautiful soundtrack that captures ancient Persia and a focus on addicting and nicely flowing climbing, rather than combat. Love relationship between the characters and the overall story. Overlooked gem here!

I'm currently half way through the game and honestly, I ADORE IT SO SO MUCH!
Most of all, I have sentimental feelings towards this title, as I played it a couple of years ago on Xbox.
And although the game has really simple mechanics, it doesn't drive me away form enjoying it as much as any other, more complex games. Most of all I think that the story itself matters the most. Surely I can say that it is great and I cannot wait to finish the whole game ; get to an end of those exciting events.
Would recommend to everyone who likes older graphics ( as the game is from 2007 ) and prefers to focus more on the storyline and views rather than learn all the different, difficult control system combinations ^^

I'm bored right now, so I'll write a review nobody will read about a game very few will play, because why not?

Anyway, Prince of Persia, it's alright I suppose. They took the classic Prince of Persia formula, see the Sands of Time which remains one of the best games I've ever played, and made a more pure platformer out of it. Platforming was always the key element of these games but there was a broader experience. This game falls more in line with your Spyros or Crash Bandicoots. I might prefer the other formula but this one ended up working fine. Its not always as fluid as I might wish. It certainly didn't feel optimized for PC but at its high points it was fun. I do have to mention that the platforming got immensely repetitive as the game progressed. The elements they add on to vary it up, with the exception of one, are little more than powers that have you push a button within a very generous window and watch a glorified cutscene. As a result, the midpoint of the game was the most enjoyable, when I was mostly finished wrestling with the controls and not yet tired of the monotonous formula. It ended up feeling rather shallow, especially when compared to the Sands of Time's revolutionary platforming. It's not bad but the challenge and complexity are largely just not there.

Platforming isn't the only thing the game has though. It has combat too! And, well, its fine not great. A combo based system with occasional situational enemy abilities that force you to mix it up ends up working but not really elevating. Not much to say really. It's clunky but they do enough with it that it can end up feeling pretty satisfying. They also diversified these encounters more than the platforming, which I for one appreciated.

Helping you along in your platforming and swordfighting endeavors is Elika, who is the only other significant character (okay, there's one more) in the game. No, really, there's about three characters, one of which barely shows up. You and Elika explore an empty kingdom trying to find sacred grounds (I think that's what they were called) in an effort to reseal a dark god. The emptiness kind of works actually. The game is quite pretty, even all these years later and it leads to some quite cinematic views. You (the prince?) also interact with Elika quite a bit, which is generally written well enough, though it feels less like two people from what is presumably the Persian area conversing and more like two modern twenty somethings. That's pretty minor, though. Overall, the conversational quips help center the experience around these two characters well enough so that the empty world works fairly well around them.

I don't want to spoil anything, but the ending to this game was one of the more uniquely handled conclusions I've yet seen, and it earns praise for that alone. I feel it's worth mentioning because it certainly made me think for a little bit. Not that long, but very few games even accomplish that much.

Overall, it's a pretty good game that could have been great had they done more with the platforming (you know, the core mechanic). The story, characters, and writing, which are all okay to great, help make up for points where the gameplay can feel lackluster. I give it a 6/10

POP was in my library for a long time before I finally decided to play it. I decided to play it and here we are 2019. Not to spoil it, I'm going to rate it as a pros and cons;

Pros:
Even for 2019 the visuals are beautiful. Mix of Cell animation and vanilla textures.
The story gets you hooked, you can relate with the characters, and they're pretty well fleshed out.
The controls took a little getting used to, but once you do, the movements are very fluid.
I can honestly say for a game that came out in 2008 it still holds water even now in 2019.

Cons:
Combat didn't suck, but once you get it down its pretty repetitive.
Camera angles are often very tricky, causing the player to miss and the repetition of doing a level repeatedly can take away to game play.
(no spoiler) Yellow Power plate is the stuff of nightmares. If you pick up the game you will immediately know what I'm talking about.

I'll end it simply saying, if you pick this up on the cheap, which i think would be the case now even if its at full price, and have the time for it, I would say pick it up. There is a lot to love about the game, but for me there was more to hate. That's the best I can do without spoilers. No I personally wouldn't recommend. Its like seeing a movie I didn't like and not talking someone out of it. But maybe this one's for you.
