Portal ist ein innovatives Physik-Puzzelspiel, in dem sich die Spielerin in einem Expermiment mit einer Portal-Pistole den Weg über Schluchten, Türmechanismen, Würfeln oder auch Selbstschussanlagen frei schießt. Ich kann diese Spiel nur jedem weiterempfehlen der Rätselspiele liebt. Das Spiel ist ein Klassiker und macht sehr viel Spaß zu spielen.

Habe das Spiel jetzt zum ersten Mal durchgespielt und muss sagen es hat sehr viel Spaß gemacht und die Rätsel waren sehr abwechslungsreich. Ich war zuerst skeptisch, aber man versteht alles ziemlich schnell. Kann es nur jedem empfehlen.

Wahnsinn, wie alt das Game ist (2007), oder wie alt ich geworden bin *lol* und es ist immer noch zu empfehlen. Die damalige Grafik braucht sich vor so manchem aktuellem AAA-Titel nicht zu verstecken und ist heute noch als sehr schön zu bezeichnen.

Was ich aber besonders liebe an Portal, ist der Humor von GLaDOS.

Absoluter Klassiker und Meisterwerk, was Valve da abgeliefert hat.

Thrilling Game.

I've had Portal 1 and 2 for a couple of years now, both unfinished. So i found the time now to actually start both over and finish them. And gosh it was totally worth it.

The gameplay is simply unique. The levels are difficult at some point, but always doable. It has many little details to explore and many achievements which partly are very difficult to gain.

One of the best games I have ever played (in combination with part 2), 10/10 recommended.

Portal und Portal 2 sind einfach ein muss in der Steam Bibliothek! Ich hoffe, dass irgendwann ein Portal 3 erscheint. Wer Spaß an kleinen Rätseln hat, Kaufen!!

Super gutes, kleines Spiel mit einem coolen Ambiente und einem krassen Plot (welcher in Teil 2 noch mehr erklährt/ausgeführt wird). Glados Humor ist Gold und die Level sehr cool gestaltet. Ich hatte mega viel Spaß und empfehle es jedem der gerne Puzzles löst und dabei eine spannende Story miterleben will.

Ich war vom ersten Moment an begeistert. Kann es nur jedem empfehlen! Ich hätte gern die Portal-Gun. Allein schon vom Design her! Die einzelnen Level sind spannend, fordern einen, sind aber machbar! Die Story bzw. „GLaDOS“ ist herrlich!

Schade, dass es nicht mehr von dieser Art Spiel gibt.

Als Vorgänger von Portal 2, zählt auch Portal zu einem der besten Spiele in der Geschichte der Spiele. Nicht nur, dass es eine spannende und leicht gruselige Story hat, nein, auch der Aspekt in Bezug auf die Logik und Kombinationsfähigkeit, die man als Spieler braucht, ist wirklich gut umgesetzt. Ich kann jedem das Spiel weiterempfehlen, wenn er ein IQ über 69 hat und geduldig genug ist, eine Lösung für jedes Rätsel zu finden!

Auch für sein stattliches alter in 2021 immer noch ein schönes spiel, mit dem man, wenn man alle Errungenschaften macht, paar Stunden Spielspaß hat! Definitiv sein Geld wert und wenn es im Sale ist auch etwas für den sehr schmalen Geldbeutel. Kurzgefasst, für das alter und für den Preis von ein paar Euros ein gelungenes Spiel!!

Spät entdeckt, aber sofort geliebt. Das Spiel basiert auf einfachen Prinzipien und führt Mechaniken geschickt ein. Die Progression ist spürbar, aber nie unfair.
Schöne Rätsel, geschicktes Design, stimmige Atmosphäre und abgründiger Humor - Ein großer Spaß und sehr zu empfehlen!

Zum Knobeln ein sehr aufwendiges Spiel mit schönen Details. Manche Passagen sind sehr knifflig, bedeutet man hat zeitlich auch was von seinem Geld. Das Thema findet im Spiel großen Anklang und jeder Rätselbegeisterte findet hier bestimmt Gefallen dran, denn jede der Testkammern baut aufeinander auf. Man wird nicht einfach auf 100% fallen gelassen, sondern man beübt sich vorher in ein paar Leveln.

Portal ist ein kurzweiliger(5Std) Ego-Shooter bei dem ihr gegen einen Super Computer antreten müsst. Eure Aufgabe ist es eine Reihe von verschiedenem Test und Übungen zu absolvieren, bei denen ihr eurer Hirnschmalz benutzen müsst. Als Hilfsmittel steht euch eine Gun zur verfügen mit der ihr Portale in Wände und Decken schießen könnt. Neben der Hauptkampagne gibt es noch die Möglichkeit Bonus Level freizuschalten, um noch etwas mehr Spielzeit rauszuholen. Wer dieses Spiel in Betracht zieht sollte sich auch überlegen die Fortsetzung zu kaufen, da diese noch umfangreicher ist und sich auch zu zweit spielbar ist.

Tolles Puzzle-Spiel das jeder mal gespielt haben soll.
Auch wenn der zweite Teil deutlich umfangreicher ist und mehr Mechaniken ins Spiel bringt ist das Original noch immer unfassbar gut. Nach knapp 3 Stunden habe ich das Spiel durchgespielt. Neben der Hauptkampagne gibt es allerdings auch noch Bonus-Level die auf den Level der Hauptkampagne basieren und etwas abgeändert wurden. Damit kann man auch noch Spielzeit rausholen.

I give Portal a lot of praise because it manages to take a genre I don’t normally like, puzzle games, and make it highly enjoyable for me. Part of that is it’s humour, which is fantastic, but it also take’s what is a very basic concept and makes it complex without being annoying. At it’s core you make up to two portals, but it’s up to you to figure out where to put them and how to use them to get to the end of a room. What I loved most was that for most of Portal it was very logical, it didn’t feel cheap or trying to be overly difficult for no reason. While a few times I felt stumped for a bit I always was able to figure things out because the game wasn’t being cheap in any way. The voice acting for Glados was some of the best I have seen and really made what would have been a great game into a classic. The end credits still make me smile to this day. The graphics were decent for it’s time, neither mind blowing or an eye sore. They have a very clean look to them for much of the time until near the end where you get into the bowels of the facility. The clean looking rooms were nice although the more dingy parts later showed the age of the engine more. The game does a great job of dropping hints about the lore as well as tying it into the Valve universe with Half-Life.

I played Portal on Linux. It never crashed and I didn’t notice any bugs. There are nine graphics settings; four AA settings; six AF settings; a v-sync toggle and an FOV slider that goes from 75-110. Alt-tab didn’t work. You can manually save whenever you want. Performance was fantastic which wasn’t shocking given the age of the game.

Portal is a game that many will enjoy and still holds up today. It was a lot of fun and combines great game play with voice acting and presentation. It also does a great job of not overdoing it and not overstaying it’s welcome. Anyone should at least try the demo to Portal. I finished it in two hours and thirty one minutes. I paid $49.99 CAD for it as part of the Orange Box years ago and it is easily worth it’s current price tag of $11.49 CAD.

Fix missing music/sound effects in Source Engine games (Valve games, etc.) on Fedora

Unfortunately, on Fedora, some Valve games have a bit of an issue regarding completely skipping playing certain audio files.
None of this causes any crashing, but can lead to a worse gaming experience, confusion, and the appearance of buggyness- and generally isn’t great.
To work around this, please refer to the following steps, and all the games’ audio will then work perfectly.

You need to open your Terminal emulator, either from the usual application menu place, or by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+T, or sometimes it’s Super+T AND THEN type the following into it, entering your password when it prompts you.

sudo su
sudo setsebool -P selinuxuser_execheap 1

That’s it. Your game will now function as intended, enjoy being able to hear the soundtracks, music, sound effects, etc! Especially ‘Still Alive’, and the banger that Half-Life 2’s soundtrack is, amongst others.

Puzzle games are usually something I despise the most in gaming genres. Not because I hate puzzle games itself but due to the constant concentration needed. Most puzzle games tend to have the pacing so off making the player very quickly exhausted. Portal is something even I as a kid could easily finish.

Gameplay
What I really like is the pacing in this game. Unlike a lot of puzzle games that revolve around a gimmick, in this case portals, they introduce the feature then give you really heavy puzzles.
Here you get slowly get introduced to new features. Once you get a type of puzzle then a harder version of this. Next up you get a new feature and get a level that features something new and old while still not being too hard.

Even in the late game you never really stay on a single feature for a long time until something new is introduced.

Additionally, levels are rather short, you can save anytime and the whole game time is also on the shorter side, you can finish his game easily in an afternoon.

Story
Often these type of puzzle games feature no story at all or have one that is so obscure and cryptic that leaves you with more questions at the end.

I found the general main story line rather enjoyable and adding more involvement into the puzzles. Its also quite funny and not cringe which is rather rare featuring jokes from an AI.

Aesthetics
The visuals are up to this day rather enjoyable and very nice. Test chambers are very clean, unless you look behind things or object you aren’t supposed to see which are dirty, rusted or full of object that have been scattered around giving a type of visual storytelling a lot of people can easily understand

Conclusion/TL;DR
Portal is one of these games that you can boot up anytime in a few years and you can easily finish it in one go. The gameplay is fun and not too hard, it’s a short game with great pacing which makes it , for a puzzle game, not exhausting to play. Absolutely recommend this game even if you don’t like puzzle games.

It's a classic. In 2021, I played this game for the first time. This 14 year old game is incredibly fun, even though there are lots more games with higher quality and better physics. Honestly, the only bad part is that it's a little easy. The challenge levels definitely require you to use your brain though. Now, time to play Portal 2!

Everybody knows and everybody loves Portal. You can’t really hate this game if you are any type of puzzle fan. The portal mechanic was something completely new when the game came out and it still holds up to this day. The gameplay and puzzle solving is pretty unique and makes you think outside of the box. In addition to that, you also get a humorous story narration along the way.

My main complaint is that the puzzles are too easy and can be solved rather quickly without much thought, there isn’t much satisfaction in completing the game. The game is also very short, it can be completed within 4 hours. To me, Portal seems like more of a proof of concept for its eventual sequel that has way more content. Still though it is fun to play through.

Very fun and interesting puzzles. Advanced maps if you thought the main story wasn't challenging enough, and challenges that make you work harder for your victory each step. A short story but very enjoyable. Loved it when it came out, love it to this day.

Portal is a first person puzzle platformer where you are testing science with portals guided by GLaDOS.

The game is a classic for a reason. It uses portals as the main puzzle mechanic and combines other mechanics with the portals such as falling and gaining momentum to launch at a higher speed through the other portal. The levels gradually build up with complexity, but are never too frustrating and half of them are done with access to only a single portal. The puzzles have great visual clarity with the mostly white colors and decent visual cues on how it should all work out.

Portal has the classic Valve way of telling stories, as things are already happening before you get there. You are woken up to follow instructions for the testing purposes of GLaDOS, but you are also figuring out if maybe there isn't a role better suited that could fit you. It's an enjoyable mystery leading you on without forcing it's way in.

Going back from Portal 2 to Portal made me aware of the improvements to the overall gameplay. Exiting through portals in Portal makes the camera rotate in a weird way sometimes and the levels are generally designed to be slower pace than what Portal 2 offers.

If there is one thing I didn't enjoy, it's the advanced and challenge levels. Figuring the harder puzzles is one part of the challenge, but executing them relied on tight timings where the puzzle mechanics they rely on felt too clunky to be fun.

For achievement hunters:

Even eleven years later, this game is still amazing. It still looks pretty good too, in my opinion. It runs super well even on my terribly underpowered laptop, and was just a great game to relax to. It gets bonus points for having a native Linux version and not requiring Proton or any other tools like that.

It is an injustice trying to find negatives in this game.
This is one of those golden oldies. Aged like find wine. And the impact this has had on the gaming industry is massive.
Yes replaying this game is a different experience since you already know all the puzzle solutions by then. But then its a matter of how fast and smoothly you can operate the levels using portals.
This is also a fantastic game for kids and adults(considering bunch of adults these days are dumb as bricks) to assess their critical thinking abilities.

Just a quick recap of my innocence childhood, When I don't even know what GlaDos is mumbling about. Playing it again today with a perspective of Portal 2; Nothing from the sequel - ruins any value from this classic.

Also, even though I know what's gonna happen from the beginning, I'm still mad that she lied.

Very fun, even if you don't really play puzzle games (like me). There were some very intense moments, but the best part by far was the boss battle. It is a short game, I completed it in 5 hours, but if it is on sale, you should give it a go. Also the song at the end is great!

The game has given me remarkably refreshing and relaxing feelings. This futuristic, minimalistic, peaceful, and 'sterile' atmosphere prevailing in Portal 1 is just incredible. Also, Portal Gun is far and away the best item of gear I've ever laid my hands on in any game.

I got gifted this game from a friend years ago, and from the first five minutes was addicted, for all the right reasons. amazing gameplay, amazing characters, amazing character building, just straight up amazingness in every respect, and to top it all off, a computer sings you a lovely song. 10/10 kents, get on it

The best action puzzle game for your mind and your sleight of hand!

The life of each of us is a period of trials and difficulties that we overcome from the first days of our existence in this World!
We open our eyes and see everything around us, and take our first steps, and hear the first words around us!
Let's try from the first moments to look at everything around us, draw some conclusions and understand who we are in this World, and what surrounds us here?
But what if we get a Portal gun? =)
We will then be able to open Portals and move anywhere, and it doesn't matter if we can walk or talk, or do something else, because we will have some kind of weapon in our hands as joyfully limitless possibilities!

Passing trials over and over again on our life path every day, only one question remains: what do we get in return! ???
When we do a lot for a person close to us (girl / boy), we hope to see the warmth of our heart and soul in return and the very response that will tell us that we are loved by another person as much as he/she is by us!

Atmosphere and music, like cake impregnation;) and the cherry on top will be the success of solving the puzzle! You can go through the same test chamber 100 times and get your strawberry again and again, and every time it will be even more delicious!
It is the same with good girls, who over the years of their lives only become better and tastier with you!

The graphics in this game are at a high level - after all, here is not only Source from Valve, but also the work of the entire friendly team to create textures! So this game will delight your eye even after a decade!

Gameplay is that subtle feeling you have for GLaDOS - the natural mind close to you is here! As if to feel how she wants you to be better and become the ideal of the human race! She, like a caring girl, will think about you, sometimes want to kill you…. , and you will overcome all trials for her sake!

Not as good as the sequel, but still worth the regular $9.99 price. A good sci-fi puzzle game with a fasinacting concept that spawned one of Valve’s best franchises. The storyline is pretty solid and rewarding for those who like to pay attention to details, but keep in mind it is short and can be finished in around 2 hours if you’re new. Because of this, you could just wait until a sale when this game is at $0.99 or $1.99.

Short but pivotal towards a full understanding of the Portal universe.

Not that it's a bad game, far from it (innovative even) but Portal 2 does everything bigger and better. Still, by playing the original you'll get to appreciate more the sequel - you won't be disappointed.

Portal is a singleplayer first-person puzzle game made by Valve back in 2007.

You go through several test chambers solving puzzles, usually trying to find a way to get a cube on to a switch so that you can open a door to the next area.

It's a really short game, but quite the experience.

I think everyone should play this game at least once, It's well worth your time and you're going to have a lot of fun playing it I can pretty much guarantee.

Yes, yes, and yes, this game is so good! It is almost as good as Only If! It has a unique concept to thinking with portals, good soundtrack, great voice acting and a lovely community that has developed from this game. Splendid, I heavily recommend this game to everyone.

This game is very short but it is one of my favourites, the gameplay and challenges are very fun. the achievements encourage you to play through the game a couple times over and truly experience all of the mechanics and lore.
The graphics still stand strong today as most valve games do and you do not feel like you are playing an old game when you are in.
overall it was awesome

The cake is a lie

The portal is a game by Valve studio, which premiered in 2007.

At the beginning of the game we wake up in a mysterious room and are controlled by a mysterious voice. Along with the story we discover new possibilities, such as portal gun, thanks to which we can create portals and move between the following rooms. Each level requires us to think logically without which we are not able to move on. In addition to the main story, we have advanced maps and challenges that are really difficult.

Graphics

The graphics are simple, but also pleasant. Although the rooms look similar, it is done on purpose, with the plot in mind. It doesn't matter much during the game.

Sound

There's not much to talk about in-game sounds either, because there aren't many, and the ones that are, are good. I liked the most the dialogues that a mysterious voice leads with us.

Summary

The portal is one of the best puzzle games I've played. Although the story is short, it brought me a lot of fun. After 13 years since its premiere the game is still on a high level. We have additional maps, which are quite a challenge. The game is very cheap, and it often happens that it is on sale. I think that the Portal is a game that should be available for everyone in the library. Just a masterpiece.
