Very interesting interactive book, worth a read, especially if you can focus on it better than I could, but that's my problem.

There's an issue, however. As the years have gone by, it started falling apart. Many interactive elements outright don't work, whether it be for the broken interface, or for a server that's presumably not been managed for around a decade and complains about database errors.

Regardless, what does work has proven to be very interesting. As a fan of the Portal franchise that occasionally rummages through various official and fan wikis of Valve games, I was delighted to see interesting content I haven't seen before.

It's worth getting at such a low price, although it's in a broken state (NOT thanks to Valve, surprisingly).

Seeing as none of the internet required bits work anymore, I wouldn't recommend at full price. Get it on special if you want to know what it was like, but be prepared for the 30% of content you can't get to, which is any significant video, any poll, and any panorama image of inside Valve

Good book, I enjoyed.

I would recommend this to any portal fans or anyone interested in taking a look into the scenes behind what it takes to make a game. Even though this process described varies and may be very different from game company to game company.

There were some problems I found with the book, not with the content but with broken videos, issues with the sequence of the slides jumping around to almost the end of the book or to the beginning.

If you first install this program, for Windows 10; Steam will tell you the portal book requires Adobe Air to run.
Do not let Adobe Air to update after the first install. I left the book open for about an hour and a half before remembering to come and turn it off. I do not know if this contributed to the problems I came up against by leaving the book open. When I allowed it to update I had strange issues with many of the windows on my computer for different programs not opening up or not changing to a different page. This included my start window not opening at all as it normally does to turn my computer off for the night. I had to use (ctrl-alt-delete) to turn my computer off. Before turning off my computer I uninstalled Adobe air and ran anti-virus programs to check.

The next day I tried again, by uninstalling the portal book and reinstalling Adobe Air but this time I did not let the Adobe air to update. Everything seems fine and I haven't found any of the issues I experienced from Adobe Air after updated. Since I have read the book I will uninstall Adobe Air since there is no reason to keep it.
It is too bad it only works on Adobe Air. I looked online and couldn't find any alternate program to Adobe Air that could guarantee it would work with the portal book.

yeah, definitely don't get this in 2021. there is a lot of lag for no discernible reason, it is not optimized for widescreen, polls are broken, interactives are broken, everything's broken. most information on here is also already widely available elsewhere in a much better presented form

I'm sure years ago this was great. It still is good but because of it's age, a whole bunch of stuff is broken (mainly things that require internet that don't load while connected to the internet). I still recommend it.

I read through the whole thing in one sitting. Super inspiring and I just loved reading the backstories of the people who worked on this game! Recommended for people who want to know what happened behind the scenes, bored readers, or both!

Interesting stuff, but the software this was made with sucks so much that I would rather pay for a PDF.

Audio is loud as héll without options to lower it. Also every online component of the app is broken at this point.

This gives some really exclusive insights to the epic process behind creating such a masterpiece as Portal 2.
Although the layout is outdated and hard to navigate by 2020 standards, this is definitely worth picking up.

Great product for Portal fans. I really enjoyed reading about the creative minds behind such a masterpiece :)
The only downside would be that atleast for me some bits weren't working properly so i had to google some of it.

This is just some information about the behind the scenes type activity and about the people behind the game. I found it to be very informative and entertaining. It gives some information that some people may find interesting about the people, their backgrounds, and other aspects of how Portal 2 developed. I found it to be worth the money even when it first came out.

First of all, this is no game but a virtual interactive book, and a very good one as a matter of fact.
To everyone who is interested in the behind the scenes of Portal 2, and how a development of a game works at Valve, you're in for one hell of a ride. I absolutely recommend it, it shows the everyday routine of an employee at Valve, some very enlightening points of view on their known delays and some videos plus slideshows to keep you interested while reading. If you read it all calmly and with some attention it will take you a bit less than an hour to go through it all, but I assure you, it's absolutely worth it.
