Viel Stoff zum Entdecken also!
Story
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2109035317
Grafik/Sound
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2105205235
Fazit

Whereas Penumbra Overture and Black Plague kept me intrigued this mod falls flat from nearly the beginning. There is a sense of been here done that and perhaps it's just too much of the same. Initially there is bare narrative and not being a pure puzzle aficionado I require an interesting narrative to push me along. Another reason I let this one go early and not helping the situation the mod is also subject to extreme frame drops and thus killing the excellent atmosphere carried over from the previous game. There are story inconsistencies though I didn't play long enough to find out their meaning if one indeed exists.

This fan-made mod contains of three different stories which one of them is currently a demo. I enjoyed every one of them. The stories are:
- Necrologue
- Twilight of the Archaic
- Prisoner of Fate. This one's a demo. It will be a SOMA mod, probably.
The first story was Necrologue. It continues after the events of Requiem and I highly recommend that you should play the other Penumbra games (Overture and Black Plague) first before you try out this story, otherwise you will get confused. Necrologue is an expansion that puts the Penumbra series back on track. It does everything right (in terms of story) and adds more puzzles to the game.
The next one was Twilight of the Archaic, a considerably short story. If you start off there, then you will atleast get some idea on the Penumbra series, if you haven't played any of the Penumbra games. The story contains of two (short) chapters. You play as one different character in each chapter who had lived before and after the events of Black Plague.
Each chapter ends with the character dying.
Then there's Prisoner of Fate, a demo version. You play as a character before the events of Overture which you will explore the environment and aid help to someone in need. It's shorter than Twilight of the Archaic at which only took me around half an hour to finish.
Overall, I would recommend anyone to give this mod a try. It's also free.

To me, this feels more like a 'hiding simulator' than a penumbra game.
Now, you may find this as just 'oh you're salty cause the monster got you in an enclosed space!' - And, as long as that may be true that I got killed in an enclosed space with no where to go, I am angry about it. not because of just 'death', but, because, there is no way of ''running'' if you can't run to begin with.
The running speed from Penumbra to Here feels like a sloth, or a turtle. then the monster's run after you with speed's faster than a cheetah. In penumbra, you can run away from the monsters and have an actual fighting chance in hiding and escaping the monster. Here however...no, thats just kicked right out the window. instead, you have to hide. or die. which, only one choice to escape? that gives the point of a ''horror'' game, at least to me, just 'hiding simulator'. hell, if I wanted a hiding simulator I'd play who's your daddy.
the monster's are overly fast, and are not like what they are in penumbra. the only thing that is the same from penumbra is the model, flashlight, and maybe a few weapon's they carry. seriously, they're running speed is NOT the same. And in penumbra, you could juke monsters by running away, letting them do a running slash at you, and jumping out of the way, and they would NOT look towards you with aimbot precision and kill you. But in this, if you do that, they turn towards you with aimbot precision. which, honestly, why have a running attack if you can't dodge, or even run away from it?
don't even get me started with how fast they are in comparison to penumbra. its like the exact same as a grunts speed from amnesia, and if that's the case then thats just a lazy job. I would've probably let the running attack thing slide, if you can outrun the monsters without them just catching up to you. being in places where you can't even outrun the monster even if you tried is not horror. its just 'why bother'? this is sorta why if I just got spotted by the monster I just let myself die as I knew 'I'm not getting out of here alive.'
my review? 4/10 overall. its okay if you want to play for the story, but just, don't play for the gameplay of penumbra. stay *way* away if you want that.

As a fan of the original Penumbra, I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate this community-made sequel. Necrologue follows the original style, level design and gameplay, it's really well made, it has the atmosphere and feel of Penumbra and I love it.
It has a native Linux version just like the original Penumbra, thank you very much devs. I'd gladly pay for this mode. The fact that it was made with such an effort yet it's completely free is insane and shows how much the community loves the Penumbra franchise.

Some spoilers, although they're very close to the beginning.
Now i only got to the second area but that's about the amount of enjoyment i'm finding from this mod. I know it's a mod and it's not perfect, but for example the first area was confusing. You're meant to find rope with a hook which apparently spawns randomly and then use it on the outside with no clear indication that you're meant to do so. I had to look up what to do.
The second area is what really made me turn off the game, the lag is awful in some areas and it's pretty clear that there is a monster there due to the very, very obvious hiding spots.
Also they added fake jumpscares, which are just cheap.
Play it if you want to but for me the experience isn't that amazing.

These mods are so incredible! I'm a big fan of the original Penumbra trilogy and in fact the entire Frictional game series. They just have a feel like no other game series in my opinion. Story rich, gameplay focused, and horror infused. The story of Penumbra has a deep feeling to it and is one of the main reasons why I think the series is so incredible. Another reason is the gameplay of this mod. Sometimes you have a fun and suspenseful maze/puzzle to solve and sometimes this has a high difficultly to it. For example, there was this code that required me to create this explosive potion. I first had to find the right chemical ingredients and then I had mix them in the correct order. This seemed pretty straight forward, but I spent an hour thinking, wondering, guessing, then finally solving the potion by taking out a piece of paper and writing the combinations on it until I nearly gave up. Eventually I looked through my inventory and saw a weird code that helped me in solving the potion. It's kind of funny now thinking about all the time I spent on that Chemistry puzzle, and this is one of the things that I think they could fix about these mods are the difficult puzzles. Well, this leads me to the horror element. Every time I hear the theme of an enemy, like a tiny wisp of fire on ever tip of hair on my body lights up and I grab my keyboard looking for the sprint key to escape as fast as I can. The horror aspect is so scary that it has made me scare myself with the slightest click of my flash light giving me a jump. Seeing that this game has made me scare myself is some good horror in my opinion. It rarely uses the jump scare factor and instead uses the atmosphere and the fear of the unknown which sets it apart from most other horror games. From me and others alike, thank you for the Linux support! It worked and played very well! Just remember to fix these two things when playing Twilight of the Archaic on Linux:
Then replace the audio file here: /ArchaicTwilight/sounds/05_sewer/radiation_sound.ogg
2. There is another crash that happens when you enter the nightmare stage of the game. In this area two hands are clasped together when you switch a lever, but the game crashes when it tries to save. The reason for this crash hasn't been found yet, unlike the other one, but there's a fix to this.
On the discussion, there was an autosave made on the Windows version of the game, Linux fix please, that was posted there.
And place the file in your autosaves folder, which is here: /home/[USERNAME]/.frictionalgames/Amnesia/ArchaicTwilight/[PROFILENAME]
And there you go! Enjoy playing Penumbra: Twilight Of The Archaic!
I hope soon that there'll be a update to the broken audio file and save for Linux so that people who want to play this game on Linux don't have to go through these steps. But I still enjoyed this game even with those steps.
These are some great mods and the developers have really put lots of effort and time into this game making it free. I would've definitely payed for this game! I can't wait for Penumbra: Prisoner of Fate!

A better Penumbra game than original Penumbra series ever were! Lets try to break down how a fanmade mod outgrew something it was inspired on:
* Way better visuals. A total nobrainer, as its based on Amnesia engine which, being released later in pipeline, is more mature. Still, you can't deny that simple fact.
* Solid, streamlined gameplay that was lacking in original games: they were essentailly an experiment, as Frictional were going through in the dark and didn't really knew what would tick, trying different things. By Amnesia, they of course figured out, but so did developers of this mod.
* Greater length of the game. Of course it reuses parts of original games, but there's way more original content as well.
Sincerely recommended. Eagerly expecting next installment in series, this time being a SOMA total conversion mod.

Probably the most impressive Amnesia mod I've ever played.
Story:
The storyline is probably the weakest aspect of this mod, while it's not bad, it doesn't mesh very well with the plot of the original Penumbra series' storyline. There's some pretty big retcons and plot holes that keep the story from feeling truly canon. But even ignoring the holes in the story, the narrative also has some plot points that go unresolved. Overall the story isn't terrible, but it's not great either.
Voice Acting:
The voice acting is good for the most part. The stand out would have to be Olivia's performance.
Gameplay:
The gameplay is solid, it does a pretty good job at emulating the mechanics from the original games. The one problem I do have with the gameplay however is that the puzzles are very hit or miss. Some puzzles are really creative, but others lack a lot of clear direction and can sometimes feel like a pretty big leap in logic.
Level Design:
The level design was some of the best I've seen in an Amnesia mod, no complaints there.
Sound Design:
The sound design is outstanding. The new music and remixes of the original Penumbra games' music are really good.
Atmosphere:
The atmosphere was spot on. I would even go as far as to say that I found the atmosphere to be scarier than the original games' atmosphere.
While this mod may not be as good as the original Penumbra games, as an Amnesia mod it's definitely one of the bests.

All I can say is wow! Far exceeded my expectations and plays exactly like the original penumbra series.
Sure there is a bit of running around and getting lost but in my opinion it adds to the eerieness of it all. The placement of batteries is spot on, although they are there to be found, you have to be pretty efficient on battery consumption.
The game seems to be the perfect medium between 'scary parts' and exploration/story telling.
For anyone who has played the original penumbra games this mod is a must - have. After completing the games back in 2011 it is great to finally play something new but with the same feel of the old masterpieces in 2015. Just goes to show that new high tech graphics aren't essential to horror titles.
Can't believe I hadn't discovered this gem earlier!
