There are several things super unrealistic though - PCIe lanes don't exist, RAM is just down to voltage & frequency (no timings), OCing is purely thermal-limited because power draw is not really simulated, thermals are purely based on total CFM, and optimal OC is maximizing VRAM clock on Nvidia and maximizing core clock on AMD, just to name the major glaring things.
Career mode has a nice variety of jobs but they get extremely repetitive after a while and the requirements to level up become a grind quickly. There's some nice little references in recurring customers though.
If you're willing to deal with Epic, PCBS2 fixes a LOT of my issues with this game. But it's Epic-exclusive, so if you're just looking to scratch the PC building itch this is still a good choice.

The parts the game does have are incredibly accurate, for example, the x570 Aorus Ultra motherboard (which I own) is not missing any details what so ever, this includes the heat sinks all the way down to the audio capacitors.
This game got me into custom water cooling, and plan to hook up a loop in my current rig. It also gave me a chance to build with parts i will never get my hands on (e.g. AMD Threadripper 3990X, RX 6900 XT(s) etc)
So yeah, I built a custom water looped 64 core, 128 GB of ram computer with 2 RX 6900 XT (s)...
Do i regret it?? no, its a game
It also runs just fine on Linux which is a bonus for me

If you're into it for the educational value, just go to UserBenchmark on the web instead.
The first few jobs you feel like you're doing great, until the string of video card upgrades come. It's hard to get the game to register what should be an obvious upgrade as such. That's what ruined it for me. It was surprising given how lenient the game is with upgrading RAM.
For improvements, RAM upgrades should take into account RAM speed. I should have got dinged for replacing 2666MHz RAM with 2400MHz. Also, GPU speed should be a recognized upgrade even if VRAM is the same. I'd also like to be able to customize the shop more, including the name and logo of the business. And there's no way a workbench should be $1500 when in real life I would buy a plastic folding table for $59. Once I got a job for a CPU upgrade only to find out an upgrade wasn't available in the store. I don't want to see that again.
I'd also like a new PC builder or manufacturer mode, where you spec new PC models and try them in the marketplace. But, maybe that's another game completely.

+Surprisingly entertaining campaign, well rounded gameplay loop
+Makes you wonder why you don´t do this for a job
+Makes time disappear like *poof* gone
+Ingame music player with web/hdd support
+Doubles as learning/familiarization tool
+Doubles as build manager for your RL wishlist
(also for identifying PC cases that are´nt fun to work on, previewing your RGB lightshow, etc.)
-Managing shop orders to 100% cost effectiveness is actual labour (missing QOL features)
-Clearing peoples pc´s of viruses blows. Actually very well simulated
-The joy of 'accidentally' stumbling upon other peoples porn stashes isn´t simulated, at all
-May trigger OCD, big time

But the time that I had with it was fun and I learnt a few things.
I like the game setup, it has a very late 90's feels to it.
Everything is setup clearly and I was never in a state where I didn't know what I had to do next.
Although the game does start where you have to do some very monotonous action which it knows since it allows you to buy upgrades. Somehow I wish it didn't do some of those smaller things that are just put there to annoy the player until the upgrade.
Oh and the music is HORRIBLE, the same 5 songs on a loop, better shut that down and turn something on on youtube to enhance your gaming experience.
If you don't forget the thermal paste, you are a better builder then the Verge already.
( but seriously, don't forget the paste)

I had passed this up numerous times, even shook my head when I had seen others playing it. Figured it was nothing more than a cash grab by the developers jumping on the PC building bubble using the usual hyped name brands to bling out whatever simulated builds the players would come up with.
And when you consider the DLC, it still kinda is. However, when taking the base game standing alone, it can be a rather addicting game to play for anyone who enjoys getting hands-on with PCs, like me.
I picked this up during the January 2021 Humble Choice. Otherwise, I may not have even bothered to try it out due to my preconceived opinions. After activating it to my account, figured let's give it a shot and see what the fuss is about. And after what I felt was just a few minutes having passed, I was 5 hours deep into the game checking emails for the next repair or diagnosis.
It's not all about just building blinged out rigs, mind you. You're running a business and have to balance your workload with a budget and bills, not to mention the guy that you replaced left it with a poor rating that needs improvement. You have to take on repair jobs that may seem tedious at times but pays the bills as well as helping to bankroll the project builds that show off your skills as a computer technician. As you level up your progress, you unlock more difficult jobs with bigger budgets and advanced hardware specs, diving ever further into the details of working on computers.
Two things that really impressed me about the game. First was that it duplicated the wallpaper of my gaming rig and used it on the in-game computer. You can keep it or swap it out for something different. Second was that you can set the in-game music player to play your own music. Load up the music player in-game and point it at your music folder on your rig and zone out. The immersion (and I hate that word) had me at times so much so that it was causing me to use real world controls to tab over to other windows on the in-game computers, accidentally tabbing out of the game on multiple occasions.
My only gripe so far is that the mouse controls for handling the computers feels awkward. Many times I find myself wanting to do one thing but do something else instead because I right-clicked instead of left-clicked. Could just be me but it's one frustration that I think could have been designed a little better.
This is definitely a game that I have no problem loading up to kill some time while simulating a task that I really enjoy doing in real life. While I picked it up on the cheap through Humble, the game is decently priced off sale for what you can get out of it. If you can pick it up on a sale, even better. I'm not sure if I'll dive into the DLC much, mostly consisting of skin jobs for the workshop or early unlocks for special cases.
If you've made it this far in my review, I would make a suggestion to install this onto a SSD if possible. It is a bit slow to load when running off of a spindle drive.

Pros:
The Esports DLC is loads of fun.
The small story lines with each different client makes the game more enjoyable.
Plenty of room to grow with the game with future DLC and stories.
Cons:
Can be laggy
Amount of money needed just to change the name of the shop is a bit ridiculous.
Don't use this to learn how to build computers.

-Teaches how PC's are made
-Radio in game is great with over 250 Different Radio Stations if you want to listen while you build Pc's
-Part selection is great almost all the parts I could think of were in the game
-You can color Cables and make custom Piping.
Cons
-Cables cant be routed were you want them the game auto plugs them in which can leave some cables hanging across the motherboard which can get frustrating.
-Some of the newer Gpu's like the Rtx 30 Series are not in the game new parts take a while to come I came to this conclusion after looking at the update logs and the parts take a good amount of time to come to the game.
-No control in the back of the case on how the cables are manged it ends up looking like a mess in the back of the case due to the lack of the future to be able to cable tie them all up neatly.
Overall for the price it's a great game I would like to see cable mamagement features come to the game

Working as a PC technician, helping users clean their computers from viruses or helping someone build their next hot gaming rig just sucks me in and I loose track of time.
Only thing I don't like about the game are the DLC's. This game is so full of adverts in the sense of that many components have real names etc. I should not have to pay extra to play the NZXT workshop. NZXT should already have paid to have their name in the game!

I have several friends that are pc builders and they recently started trying to teach me more about computers and how to care for them, upgrade parts, etc. Saw this game in a Humble Bundle and decided to get it to help further my education.
Few notes.
This game seems to operate under the assumption that you have SOME prior knowledge about computers. Which is really frustrating, however I'm glad it does. It means I actually have to figure out what I'm supposed to do. I've had to google a few things about various pc related things to help me figure out what to do in the game. It does not hold your hand. The closest it gets to holding your hand is that it shows you where to click, but that means I get to see what order things go in. Took me a bit to figure out how to get to the memory and how to get to the cpu, the fact that it shows me what is clickable doesn't tell me what I should do.
There are a couple of complaints I have based on a few things I had already learned from friends. Like the fact that RAM has to go in in a certain order based on your pc and the fact that you have to clean off thermal paste before you apply it. I would personally like to see both of these things implimented into the game.
End thing here. It's not a perfectly educational game when it comes to pc building, but it does a really good job. I'm a learn by doing kind of person so reading how to check and change pc parts isn't going to help me learn. However physically working on an ACTUAL functioning computer would scare the hell out of me. So this gives me the opportunity to get more comfortable with working on computers and giving me a base knowledge that I need to be able to understand the things I'm learning online.
Would love to see this company come up with a game where you have to do repairs involving software problems and such and knowing what to look for. Doing more with your bios to see where you can increase performance, etc.

After a few hours of playing I just want to say one thing that the clients in this game are like my friends, they also have no explanation about computer breakdowns. There is only one difference: they give it to me personally, not under the door.

Whenever i get bored after some fixes and exit the game , i resumed playing after some time.
But ofcourse there are some features which i want to see in this amazing game.
1- A note pad , similar like in car mechanics 2018.. so you can copy paste the model
2- I would like to see the original part list of the customer, even after i disassemble any part.
Thank you for this amazing game !!

You spend each day fulfilling orders coming in, ranging from cleaning dusts and viruses to building PC of sufficient specs to run specific softwares (which are real-life softwares... imagine the sponsored marketing dollars) within certain budgets and deadline. And gosh, I hate it when customers requested that I use cables of specific colours.
It's almost educational enough to give you a GENERAL understanding on pc parts compatibility and how overclocking works. In real life, there are more considerations that are missing/insufficiently represented in the game. Eg. Lower tolerances on overclocking settings to fry your components, different chassis and MOBO combination affecting gfx card choices and layouts due to form factors and layout, differentiating SATA/IDE/M.2 slots, fan size/speed/location affecting airflow and efficiency of cooling effects, etc.
Was trying to build a non-gaming work PC in real life recently and I found myself inadvertently biased to choose parts intended for a monster gaming rig.
Summary: Addictive, Zen, Educational, Subliminal Marketing. You are warned.

To be honest, this is mind blown topic. We are building a PC in a PC simulator on a PC we built.

The negative that drives me nuts and the only reason it turns it into a down for me, is the garbage inventory system. Nothing stacks, there is no filtering section. an example would be. I should click on CPU's, then I would choose either AMD or Intel, then I would choose I3, I5, I7, or Ryzen 3, Ryzen 5, Ryzen 7, but instead everything is mashed together, new parts broken parts, used parts, and not even at least organized by price, so im not even endgame, more like mid game, and pretty much to install every part I have to type into search for finding every component for the computer.
I really hope the someday a mod can fix this, as for now this is ridiculous to have a management game with a massive inventory, and no sort of organization what so ever.

This game nails a lot of the steps on making a build, I dare to say it's almost identical as doing it in real life. There are a lot of missing components and peripherals to use but overall it's so complete. You can even screw and unscrew parts out of a case or tighten the motherboard's support screws.
Overall I love the game and all of the features it provides, the ability to work as a repairman is also very on-point. There are some flaws that I've experienced while playing the game however, but they're not so important to point out. Congratulations on this masterpiece.
