Don‘t play this if you like finding loot and gearing a character in an ARPG, because you’ll just find yourself farming currency and trade for every single piece you’re wearing.
Don’t play this unless it’s literally your job, because that’s the amount of time that the developers expect you to invest if you want to begin scratching at the top end of the content. This game is balanced around streamers and the unemployed. Don’t expect it to respect your time.

Kein Problem.
In Path of Exile gibt es absolut kein Pay2Win.

In short why to play: the builds in this game are very open to your own creativity if you know what you are doing and are interested in building your own build/ There are a lot of pre-made builds that you can follow to learn the game.
If you want to destroy screens of enemies fight very hard bosses and beat them with pure skill/millions of dps
this game might be for you.

This league, on the other hand, is extremely satisfying and feels like the appropriate balance between generosity and challenge. It's easy to curve the difficulty to your build's progress, it's easier to get the currency you need (or trade for it), and the new progression systems make it easier to be rewarded for playing the type of content you enjoy in the endgame. I'm having a blast.

Now, it's basically a bloated mobile game with so many convoluted unexplained mechanics that it is hard to keep up unless you are a streamer or unemployed.
Also, the game looks nothing like the screenshots it markets itself with once you reach endgame. The auras, curses, status effects, gazillion projectiles, and constantly spawning enemies turn the screen into a visual clusterf***, so you wont be able to see jack. Consequently, gameplay is reduced into mindless button mashing.
Oh, and don't get me started on the nerfs every three months that turn the builds you have spent time developing and equipping into rubbish...

Also they're in New Zealand and have good work-life balance, I never fear the devs are mistreated, I never fear they are beholden to shareholders or some titleholder like an EA demanding crunch to not miss deadlines. I appreciate what is seemingly one of my favourite games being one of the best games ever made in the genre and it being made by people who are passionate and that passion isn't being abused. It makes PoE something truly exceptional and special, even when I'm mad at it.

The game is pretty easy to learn but hard to master.
You basically have a guide for every mechanic on Youtube or on the Path of Exile Official Forum, which is a big plus in my opinion.
You probably need a few hundred hours playtime to completely understand what you are doing but this is not a negative point for me.
PLEASE DONT BE AFRAID OF THE SKILL TREE ONCE U OPEN IT FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!
- The skill tree seems really complicated but its actually pretty easy to understand
Is the game pay to win? Well i dont think it is but you need like 20-30$ to get the Stashtabs which will help you a lot!
If you have any further questions about the game, you can add me in Steam after you commented on my profile. We can discuss certain things for sure.
Useful resources which will help you in Path of Exile:
Trading Website (Sell your Items through the official website)
Path of Building Community Fork (Simulation for your Builds)
Awakened Path of Exile Trade (Trade Macro which helps you price check items)
Craft of Exile (for more advanced stuff like item crafting)
Poebuilds (gives u a few build guides for beginners aswell)
Poe.Ninja (gives u a rough idea of what the current prices are)

Deep Customization for characters for the classes are very diverse and every character can use any skills. You can turn a magic character like a witch into a melee character that hits hard with melee skills or a melee character like the duelist that uses wands. The many skills and support skill gems you can use in the game help you progress the game to your hearts content in any way you want.
The environment is significantly aesthetic and have been well textured based off of real objects in the world. Some of the statues in game are very realistic, especially when you look close at them. You'll feel like you've entered a world from another planet when playing the game as a new player. Many places to explore in the game with very detailed, but dark scenery that will keep you captivated by your character moving through them.
Challenge in the game is not as difficult to start out, but slowly gets more challenging as you overcome more hurdles that might keep you from progressing. Challenges that keep the game interesting are the varieties of monsters that you fight as you venture out on a quest as an exile, which will be one of the most dangerous things that the game does while testing your ability to risk it all or die trying. New players will likely find themselves feeling the challenge almost immediately from the get go.
There is merit to the game helping your character progress quite nicely in the game most of the time. Everything is salvagable in it that provides more resources for players to play around with the currency that allows them to improve gear unimaginably and sometimes in ways that makes characters more unique as they synergize gear with the character you have designed, perhaps with an idea in mind. Different pieces of gear go well together, which can significantly improve progression of any character that wants to jump over hurdles.
The Bad:
Throughout my time playing PoE, the game becomes increasingly tedious as you play longer and redo content over and over again. You'll find yourself in an endless cycle that gets you to finish things again, while also having to deal with the fact that the game is constantly changing and most of the time the nerfs of certain mechanics that render older content much less exciting and annoying to interact with.
The game has bad track record for having new league mechanics every 3 months that do not elevate the game and also stealthily changes older league mechanics. This makes the game increasingly stale as a result of older league mechanics becoming less relevant for long periods of time. The league mechanics that exist now have implications with their drop rate lowered as a result of more league mechanics added to the game.
In my time playing PoE challenge league starts, there has been a continuous trend of leagues starting rough and half baked. This is a red sign for anyone who wants to play the game because during the first two weeks of most new leagues, the game goes through stages of crisis that leaves a sour taste on new players entering the game as their first impression because some parts of a league mechanic may not function properly or even function correctly at all. Other times, there will be huge nerfs or changes to specific parts of a league mechanic mid-league that would bandage the issues faced on launch, but other times it will make things considerably worse for some players, with some of them experiencing major latency issues with servers. There's been a fair share of complaints of performance issues that hinder enjoyment of the game to face challenges and others that would deter and undermine incentive to cope with the abnormal optimizations.
For anyone deciding to join PoE, the game will most likely in some form of beta at all times meaning that most of the content will be delivered half baked or unplayable in certain areas, despite the developer's efforts to play test their game before releasing their expansion. Some would call the new expansions extended bloat that would ultimately cause players to have to install massive updates every league and cope with the mess for every expansion.
As a result of constant increase in RNG recently due to having more league mechanics, gearing a character takes more effort than usual, which means that players will have to interact with all forms of content in the game to progress their character. In this case, the game becomes a chore for most players who will or have played PoE. The tediousness of having to interact with everything without having incentive to target any of them makes each old league mechanic and the new league mechanics from the expansions becomes ultimately less exciting over time. It's not exciting to constantly have do every league mechanic to get few or no good drops at all for upgrades in gear. There's no excitement in targeting the same content over and over again when what we're mostly doing is jumping in them to gamble and gamble and gamble continuously for almost nothing.
Conclusion:
PoE is a good game that I enjoyed for a long time because I loved playing characters that are beyond the meta and futuristic, but as of now and forever, that enjoyment of the game has faded as a result of many changes in the game that overall makes it less appealing and more of a brand that cuts corners than ever. It's a game that I loved for many years, but hate because of the way the company that runs it executes and delivers their game with their practices that deters players from staying and coming back.

The level of tediousness in this game is insane.
The only time I felt like I could get anything done in reasonable time was during Harvest league where you could actually target craft items. That was probably the most fun I had with this game but it seems it was too convenient, even then it was a drag that to do anything else other than harvest was a waste of time.
I understand they need to make some money, they certainly do. However the price for everything cosmetic or stash tabs is very high. It's also obvious they make things annoying on purpose as you can't stack some items like certain fragments the clutter gets insane pretty quick.
Some people like all the RNG and tediousness but this game takes it to the extreme. Few things are explained well in game, luckily some players are helpful but you will still need to spend likely dozens of hours researching google to find out what the F is going on.
A couple good things I will say that support was quick to help me out when I needed it. They made sorting stash tabs easier, so GGG understands some of the bullshit in this game.
Anyways your call but I usually log off thinking fuck what a waste of time that was!

I've been disliking the way this game headed for too long, if I still play it is only because I used to like it so much and the nostalgia factor plays a big role here. And because of the social aspect.
Path of Exile used to be a lot more slow paced, methodic, and challenging game than it is right now. That's the game I fell in love with like I said.
Today is all about reaching gazillions of DPS in order to steamroll as fast as possible through the boring, broken content they release. In some cases literally afking what its supposed to be the hardest content in the game.
GGG also used to release leagues that weren't as broken and flawed at their very core concepts as the last 3-4. Especially Heist which was by far one of the more hectic releases ever, plagued with technical, design, and gameplay issues.
The performance of the game -while it was never really that good- only seems to get worse as time passes. After 6 years since ambush was introduced to the game and you still sometimes get freezes when opening a strongbox.
And that's only the tip of the iceberg, the game performance in general is just not stable, doing maps with a lot of mods or in a 5-6 man party was always a shitty experience and it still is.
I don't know, I could go on and on, there's just so much stuff thats gone bad with this game, now they even delayed the december league release one month because of another game? So PoE is tied to what other games do now?
I'm sure I haven't mentioned everything but the relevant stuff is there and that's basically why I wouldn't recommend getting into this game right now. Path of Exile golden days have long since passed.
I'll still play some lagues here and there, but won't spend a single dime on it anymore. I hope we get some competition to see if they can get back on track or are already too far gone.

running the same areas again and again. You have to stop and click dozens of items many times in each area. There can be hundreds of items that drop in each area that you either have to pick up and use a scroll to see the stats, or just ignore them since the odds they are going to be an upgrade are very low.
Then there is the rng everything in the game is rng, crafting items are Heavily rng , Item drops are rng, card drops are rng, map drops are rng, bonus missions are rng, prophecies are rng, labyrinthes are rng, beast capturing is rng, temple of atzoatl is rng, syndicate is rng, Vaal stuff is rng, stats are rng, item sockets are rng, Socket links are rng, league mechanics (there are about a dozen) are rng, Delves are rng.
To buy things you need to use a external website then contact the buyer/seller directly if they are online. There are item filters that help to reduce the clutter of items that show up but no in game way to change what it filters.
It feels as if the developers are just dead set on making it very hard to do basic things in hopes of keeping people playing via intermittent reinforcement.

The good:
Path of Exile lives up to the core idea of being a spiritual successor to Diablo 2. It executes competently on most traditional ARPG staples, while expanding heavily on the systems that define your character, your skills, and your items. In all cases a great deal of complexity is added, and in most cases that complexity isn't just for show. Character builds in PoE are *very* involved, and that's a big draw for anyone who feels unsatisfied by more streamlined systems that they feel rob them of agency. Of particular merit is the gem system for skills, whereby players construct a skill loadout by equipping active skill gems in their gear, and augmenting them with linked support gems that modify skills in many different ways: adding projectiles or causing them to chain from one enemy to the next; changing a spell your character casts into one which will be cast by a summonable totem, or which will be cast at the location of a trap if a nearby enemy triggers it; specialising a direct damage fire spell to instead inflict burning damage over time, and allowing that damage to proliferate through nearby enemies. Sometimes the choices are a bit bland or obvious, but overall it's a great system.
The heart of the endgame systems also deserves credit. Post-story, the game primarily revolves around 'map' items that open portals to new zones. The system of finding, modifying, and completing these maps is well developed, and strikes a balance between being satisfyingly grindy and requiring management of resources. There are few endgame bosses that truly excite, but progression through the mapping system offers quite a bit of incentive in itself.
The bad:
Most of the problems with PoE result from the fact the game is a victim of its own success. What was once little more than a Diablo 2 fan game is now one of the biggest ARPGs out there, and while that is a great achievement for the developers, it has struggled to grow into a game worthy of this position. The game's performance is extremely poor, with an engine that is not at all fit for purpose, and this is exacerbated with every release as new effects and mechanics are added with the intention of looking flashy (in a vacuum) but which simply add to the already overloaded gameplay. Overloaded gameplay is a common theme, where pretty much every idea that ever made it into the game is kept, regardless of its quality or utility, resulting in extreme content bloat. Part of the reason I would not recommend PoE to a new player is because if you haven't played through pretty much every previous patch, the game overloads you with endless types of content, many of which are either irrelevant or unnecessarily complex.
Perhaps most seriously, PoE's developers, GGG, have struggled to deal with expansion of the company and of the game's scope in response to their success. Decisions which are known to be detrimental to players - even including an ignorance of constant complaints about RSI-inducing gameplay and total lack of visual clarity - are rife, due to a mistaken commitment to being 'hardcore' in their ethos, despite the fact the balance direction of the game focusing on artificial difficulty and random, instant deaths has diminished the hardcore community considerably compared to the softcore side. The scope of content releases has been dramatically increased, but no extra time has been taken in its development, leading to consistently buggy and non-functional releases. Players had sympathy when this was done in a small indie game largely supported by cosmetics, but not for a game with hundreds of thousands of players owned by Tencent that is now trying to de-facto 'sell' each league through item inflation and having players buy a special stash tab for the inflated new item set.
The verdict:
Path of Exile has done great things for the ARPG genre and proves that large, online, ladder-focused ARPGs have a place in 2020. Sadly, the reality of the game is straying increasingly from the promise it offers, and it is falling apart at the seams under the weight of technical debt, unrealistic deadlines, and failure to do even basic testing. It's a game that desperately needs competition to keep it honest, because at present it is not supported in a way that a large, online, ladder-focused ARPG in 2020 should be. The positives it has are mostly those it was originally created with, and the negatives things that have crept in over time, which bodes poorly for its future if no major organisational changes are made.

This is not your standard aRPG. Seriously. I've done everything I care to in the current league, so I have looked around to find an aRPG that I can play until the new league releases next week... I haven't found one. Oh, I've found a lot of aRPG's, but none that I can stand playing anymore. Either their depth of loot is lacking, or their skill diversity is horrible, or the gameplay just feels slow and clunky. Whatever the reason, there isn't a single aRPG out there that compares to this game.
That is an actual issue for brand new people though.
First, loot diversity is huge, but that means you WILL be confused about certain things. You typically want to equip as few uniques as possible for instance. Completely counter-intuitive to most games in this genre. It works though. Equip a few build defining uniques and the rest is just a power-creep process of upgrading life/es/resists to handle more and more content. It seems daunting at first, but you will get the hang of it quickly.
Second, the skill tree is MASSIVE. I know you will be tempted to create your own builds, but DON'T. Seriously, look at a build guide with a video that shows gameplay that looks interesting to you. Concentrate on guides with a budget option to start. This will introduce you to the passive tree, some skills and their interactions with support gems, and give you a clear path on upgrading your gear. Play a few of these first and you will start to get how everything works. There is a build for literally every viable (and some non-viable meme) skill in the game. The builds have been created by people with a depth of understanding that my average IQ can't fathom. I still don't do my own builds for the most part, though that's because I don't have any desire to learn personally (busy life).
Third, realize that you likely won't hit max level. This game has an experience penalty every time you die once you hit end-game. That's ok though because the game is balanced in a way where most builds don't need you to go past level 88 or so to clear all content. In fact, many build guides will be a few points short in their skill trees because they don't expect you to get past 93. That's kind of the soft cap for most people where extra points don't do much. If you can't complete all content around level 90, your build is either horrible or, if using a build guide, you probably just need to farm currency for some gear upgrades and/or need to get better with boss mechanics.
Lastly, use the various discords/subreddits/forums to get an idea of what tools to you will need to use. Mandatory for a smooth experience is a price checker of some sort (I use Awakened PoE Trade, but there are others), Path of Building (let's you plan your builds; get the community fork, it has more accurate calculations), and familiarize yourself with peoninja to get an idea of what builds are performing best in the current league and what items/gems you should keep an eye out for or level. Also, try using both GGG's trade site and poe.trade to see which you prefer. These are where you will buy or sell items (might need to buy a premium stash tab to sell, don't know if there are still work arounds or not). Unless you specifically want to run SSF, you will need trade. This is also why you have that price checker tool. It will give your a rough estimate of how much you can sell your items for.
This game is entirely worth trying out. It's free, though you will want premium stash tabs at some point, so give it a shot. Just keep in mind that it's on a schedule for 4 leagues a year, that means running 4 fresh characters a year at minimum to have access to the latest content. That can be a lot of game time for us casuals ( I haven't completed a single game since 2013 because this one keeps taking all of my time). Take your time, follow build guides, watch some of our excellent streamers like itsyoji or this is badger, and you will be well on your way to enjoying one of the all time greatest games ever made. The reviews that try to scare you away from this game are from people who didn't try the above or haven't tried immersing themselves in the community and never came to understand what this game is all about.

Compared to Diablo, in PoE you cant make countless working builds with the 200+ different active skill gems and 170 support skill gems. Campaign is unskippable but the story is really dark and great, featuring 10 acts, instead of the different difficulty of the same acts several times like in Diablo. The endgame is vast, many teporary leagues are merged into the game that makes endgame bigger and bigger in every league.
There is a standard league where all characters go after they die in hardcore of the temporal league ends. Temporal leagues refresh in every 3 month. There are challenges (40) in every temp league that you can complete for 3 free cosmetics and a totem of growing height highlighting your commitment in the league.
Build your own little base? Yes you do. You can customize your own hideout to insane degrees. There are several templates that you can choose from and several hundred gatgets you can choose to build your own little sacred place.
Builds:
If you are a casual, you can make an easy straightforward build from many builds on the official page.
If you are a veteran you can make your own build with 'poebuilder' where you spend days making your character. Many crazy builds are using infinite loops and exploits, the creativity just blows your mind.
Important:
If you really want to play the game, it's highly recommended to put the game on a Solid State Disk , The game is really using your computer.
Overall a very good and even more addictive game, just don't uninstall right after you see the skilltree:)

Even though it is free to play I highly recommend purchasing a currency tab as well as a trading tab. I cant wait for POE 2! GGG really knocked this one out of the park.
