Es ist ein Martial-Arts-Spiel mit ausgesprochen anspruchsvoller Kampfkunst, das auch durch humanoide Hasen (Hunde, Katzen) als Akteure in Erinnerung bleiben mag.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1945555460
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1945554736
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1945557907

The gameplay is a ton of fun, but there's a big lack of content and no online multiplayer, which the game could really benefit from.
I wish I could recommend this game, but its just not worth your money. Hopefully the devs decide to do something with it, but for now its just a cool tech demo.

Pathetic if you look how successfull other games are. Im probably going to look out the next time I buy from Wolfire.

Liked:
The graphics are great, the animations are great, it all feels somewhat realistic, not to mention the level design is very well done as well. The combat can be satisfying and the parkour most certainly is. I absolutely love running through the few parkour levels they have and the arena mode gives me no shortage of excitement.
Disliked:
The tutorial was god awful and left me scratching my head the ENTIRE game. Until I looked up a few guides on how to actually do stuff correctly, which for the record you should not have to do for any game. The main stories are way too short and frankly all of the combat scenarios felt unfair at best, unplayable at worst.
Side Note:
I sadly did not dive too deep into the modding scene. The small handful I tried left a bad taste in my mouth and they were high up on the list of popularity. I'm sure there are some gold nuggets in there somewhere.

How brutal mechanically?
Hit, block, throw, block, block, leg sweep, hit, jump, divekick, block, die, repeat. Absolute ruthlessness. Ragdolls matter, if you get kicked in the head, you'll most likely die, plus you can easily get damaged if you land your jump clumsily. And you'll have to jump a lot. You're a rabbit - jumping is your forte, after all.
How brutal aesthetically?
The protagonist looks at a cat and asks the onlookers who would bid highest for its paws - those would make good back-scratchers. By the way, despite simplistic story the writing in Overgrowth is really quite good, getting even better in the third and fourth campaigns.
I don't know where the notion that the game is raw are coming from - personally, I found everything quite finished and in-place.
But, man, is some of it frustrating...
One.
Stealth is functional, buuuuut... You know. It's the same thing here as in games where steath is not the primary system. Firstly, it takes away some of the practice you could be having, secondly, sometimes enemies see you even when you're in the bushes, and thirdly it's just not fun.
Two.
Overgrowth puts a lot of faith in its platforming. Which is, once again, functional, and, once again, not particularly fun. And also has very inconsistent difficulty. Sometimes it's the easiest of routines, and sometimes you're required to perform borderline-miracle feats of precise jumping. The first platforming section that has any challenge to it turned out to contain the most difficult jump in the entire game.
Three.
Overall inconsistency of difficulty. You manage everything just fine, and then... You suddenly don't. Like at all. Like a stonewall. And then it doesn't subside. Out of the five and a half hours the first campaign took me, I spent one hour trying to Mario-jump two wolves in an arena fight - the fourth last mission. That hungry duo puts the bigger part of Dark Souls bosses to shame - I understand that in Overgrowth wolves are supposed to be unfathomably tough, and hit like a hydraulic hammer, but I'm pretty sure they aren't supposed to shoot you out of the air with low kicks...
In any case - it's a game fully deserving of all of its fame and infamy.
Pufftails will prevail!

But listen, have you ever drop kicked a wolf so hard he died?
And then watched his rag-dolling body knock two bunnies into a bonfire and watched them burn to death?
If that's not cool art i don't know what is. Bloodthirsty as hell. Probably should grab it on a sale.

It is supposed to be primarily a fighting game, but you spend a good part doing platforming sections with controls that do not feel design for it; movement is floaty and does not allow for precision, and the combat suffers from that same floaty movement. The end product is a jack of all trade, master of none.
The game is surprisingly demanding for the visual quality that it offers, the world is mostly empty and the stories are forgettable. I think its biggest problem is not having anything memorable, the only thing that keeps this game alive is its Modding community and custom levels.

Combat is satisfying and elegant, it is based on timing instead of combos which is a refreshing choice
Best blood simulation I have seen
Animal design is competent and unironic, no furry memes
What I would like to see:
A configurator for enemy combat stats in order to raise certain stats above max difficulty
A more in-depth explanation of countering/dodging attacks in terms of when/if to press the direction in relation to right click
An explanation of why for example the knee attack is used instead of front kick
An optional extra way to perform the sweep kick, since I sometimes find myself accidentally rolling
Clarification on countering and dodging armed opponents
Despite these things, the game is very solid and easy to recommend
Some recommended workshop mods are Optimised Grass, and Custom HUD

Some granted, may be better than others, or at least some are certainly larger in size and scope.
The game features intense combat that can be tricky to master, but it is still simple enough that you can get the basics down and then build upon your skill as a deadly, battle hardened, bunny.
The game also offers a stealth approach to combat, giving you the ability to sneak up behind enemies and take them unawares, making you feel like a little bit of a sneaky assassin, taking out all of your opponents one by one.
The game has quite interesting law that I personally found quite enjoyable, and appreciated, as the longer I played the more curious I became about the world and history of Overgrowth.
The soundtrack is very atmospheric, and I think it suits the maps and overall tone of the game quite well.
I would thoroughly recommend Overgrowth to anyone who enjoys fun and challenging combat, or who just loves running about as a crazed knife wielding rabbit, butchering anyone who gets in their way.

What I've found from the story lines, is that they are distinctly different in style than each other. Starting on the second one is actually better off than the first, but doesn't matter THAT much. And doing the first two before playing any others is super helpful, because the others can be extensively difficult at times. Overgrowth, the main story line, was enjoyable. I didn't mind the writing and the story flowed well. It is akin to Watership Down, following it's mythology and morality closely. If you haven't read Watership Down, no need to fret. They add quotes to the loading screens so you can parallel the stories and understand their inspiration. Lugaru was equally matched to Overgrowth but a much shorter prequel.
Therium - 2 is just massive and different, but uses the same models and techniques. The story of Therium keeps you guessing more than the first two. The villain isn't as clear, and the morality of the story is more ambiguous. Never knowing who to trust, just knowing that you don't REALLY care as long as you make it through alive. It doesn't seem to matter what you do to who, or how, or why. You just do it. I'm sure the reveal will be worth the wait, but I'm tuckered out for today.
Mechanics of Overgrowth are easy to begin and challenging to master. The fighting becomes fluid and seamless as you play, but the platforming remains quite difficult throughout the main game. It proved to be more difficult to navigate the levels than fight the enemies. The platforming levels were so challenging that they took up the vast majority of my play-time. There were spots where I was stumped for a long time on which direction to jump next. It should be easier for literally anyone than it was for me, as long as you remember to look all ways before jumping, because sometimes the right way is not where you are looking. Fighting was easier by far. Although I am a cheap fighter, and exploit the jump+kick to great extent when dealing with enemies. It is much more efficient to take out enemies form behind using the stealth techniques. But jumping on their heads is so much fun I just can't contain my excitement. Bouncing around the map guard to guard infiltrating castles like a happy idiot completely at odds with the game's somewhat serious tone.Z
Motion sickness warning: This is a motion sickness game. It isn't always noticeable while playing, but can build up over time and hit you like a freight train when you finally stop playing. It isn't as bad as something like Dying Light, but is worse than something like MarioKart. That middle ground that might be alright for a lot of folks out there, but definitely got to me after a while.
Other than motion sickness and the platforming being infuriating at times, this game is just excellent. There are all sorts of mechanics to mess around with, and you can make weird things happen if you learn them well. Like my flying bunny technique when taking out guards.
I got it on Humble at some point, and recommend getting it on sale if you can. It's got plenty of content, as well as a large Steam Workshop with maps to enjoy once you finish the main game. And if you find it's too easy on reasonable settings, the harder settings get pretty crazy. And the community content contains some fun challenges as well. I am looking forward to playing this game more often.
Edit:
Therium 2 was an excellent storyline, and I love the choices. It was hard for me to find the ending I liked the most. I found it after completing every single other ending. I just so happened it was the last path I tried. Go figure.
Don't fret over what path you take first, you'll get to go back and take them all in time.
EDIT: And I hated Drika's Story upon first play through. Maybe it will grow on me in time, maybe not.

Overgrowth Review
Over its many years of development, Overgrowth has made slow but steady progress towards being a refined and polished fighting game. As a successor to Lugaru, it keeps the combat system and levels while also adding many other features that make this game an extremely fun albeit short playthrough.
The focal point of Overgrowth is the fast-paced, violent, bunny combat. Attacks are determined based on distance to the target and can be blocked or countered with almost frame-perfect timing. This creates an almost rhythmic fighting style that is extremely engaging and fun to master. This combat is heightened by the incredible flow and feeling of movement. The rabbits can wall-run, bounce off ledges, roll, and do flying kicks which can allow for impressive parkour and combat sequences. Overgrowth also includes weapons and different races that change the way combat is held. Fighting someone that has a weapon is as difficult as it would be in real life, especially if they are twice your size. Damage is based off a skeletal structure and not a simple health bar, this system adds difficulty but also depth and complexity, as the character can die simply by landing from a jump the wrong way.
The levels are simple and act as a playground for the combat. There are a good variety of enemies and weapons featured in the main levels, as well as parkour segments that are satisfying to complete. After the relatively short main storyline, there is an arena mode for fast-paced round after round fighting and also no shortage of community made levels and content thanks to the in-game editor. The workshop almost single-handedly keeps this game alive; you can find anything from Genji rabbit skins to whole RPG style game modes.
Overgrowth spent more than 8 years in development, only being officially released quite recently. For such a long amount of time it could be said that this game fails to deliver, that the content is lacking. Yet, put simply, the game is very fun. The combat system and movement system that Wolfire created with Lugaru and polished with Overgrowth is extremely satisfying. The lack of official content is completely overshadowed by the community content that will only continue to grow in number. This game is strongly recommended.

That said, the game is not perfect. The story is short and bland, but this imperfection is greatly mitigated by superb fighting mechanics and exhaustive sandbox features. In short, Overgrowth is a really fun timekiller.

There are 4 different stories that can be played. In every single one you will basically fight as a rabbit/cat or dog against other animal tribes. The stories are fine, but not extraordinary. The good thing is that the second story follows the first one. You will enjoy the “combat bunny”’s journey.
The combat is rather simple, but enjoyable. You will also have to do some jump and runs, which are quite entertaining.
The graphics are great.
Once you finished all the campaigns, there is lots of downloadable content in the workshop.
Nevertheless, this game has an annoying problem. The loading time between each level, is extremely long and annoying. Especially because it will load every 5 minutes, as the levels are rather short.

don't get me wrong this game is great and there's many fun to be had. however it's very short.
it includes a total of 4 campaigns pre-installed which are Overgrowth, Lugaru, Therium 2 and drika's story. this sounds like 40 hours of gameplay on paper, but it's actually 5-6 hours.
You see, the levels are VERY short. every level is either a fight between 2 or more characters or a platforming sequence and when that's over the level ends. im currently playing the therium 2 campaign which has 41 levels. but every level is 2-5 minutes long and im already at level 10 within 10 minutes of playing that campaign.
My biggest issue with this game is it's replay value. after 4 hours you are left with 4 campaigns that are completed, an arena mode that gets boring after 10 minutes. and rushed campaigns from the workshop. i think that the level editor is too complex for people that actually want to make a good custom story. it's more of a landscape editor instead of a tool that isn't a clusterfuck.
Wolfire games will never improve this game because they just trashed this project. it's a real shame because with a little improvement this game can be a masterpiece. even if they did add more campaigns the levels would eventually feel the same. this reminds me of my insurgency: sandstorm review. it's a good game but not worth the full price because there's something missing and i can't tell what.

I'd say this is more of a game engine/game idea thing than anything else, like the short campaign is just so that people have something to do with it, it's not really too crazy or impressive, but it's good.
This game has a lot of potential. Combat is chaotic and deadly, most fights can be over in a single attack. Damage isn't dealt through damage and hitpoints, it's all physics based. If you're cut and bleed enough, you will die. If you get kicked into a wall and you break your neck, you will die. Instantly. It's crazy. On the other hand, of course, if you cut someone, they will usually die, especially if it's a deep cut. If you kick someone with your fucking steroid turbo mega strength bunny legs, their spine will usually shatter, or the bones in their skull become shrapnel and tear apart their brain. I mean, this doesn't actually happen in game, but god damn the rabbits got strong ass legs.
Oh yeah you can kinda cheese most fights by running around and jump kicking enemies. Usually.
Platforming is very fun, you can jump very high, and this game has a great sense of scale and momentum. Some custom maps focus on climbing/platforming, because it's just good.
I'd say if you're interested in this game, 1. know that the content provided by default is very short and 2. check the workshop, if enough of it piques your interest, then get it. There is actually an unofficial campaign I believe that was added officially because it was so good? Not sure, but it's a main one to play through as well, but this isn't a review for custom/side content, it's for the base game, which, again, very good, but very small/short.

They have put so much of their time and effort into this game, and I'm glad I was a participant in their success. I hope my purchase of the game helped fund another week of late-night coffee drinking to finish something for the next alpha build or something like that. I'm just glad they've made this game into something as cool as it is now.
Here's a small review of this unique game.
PROS
+ Has a LINUX client. Has since day one, from what I can remember anyway. Very important to me.
+ Unique story and viewpoint. You're basically a maniacal ninja rabbit with exceptional fighting skills. Like I said: unique.
+ Character variety. It's got the aforementioned rabbits but also features cats, rats, dogs, and wolves. It's like an animal kingdom brawler you never knew you wanted.
+ Level design is rad. It's got vertical heights to climb all over the place, and Turner (your character) jumps and leaps and grabs very easily to make traversing these landscapes very easy.
+ The music is unique as well. Far as I can tell it's all made in-house, and it's really tribal and motivating. It ramps up when danger is near and calms down when you're sneaking around unseen.
+ The game itself also has a newly re-made version of Wolfire's first ninja rabbit fighting game, Lugaru, in it. It's awesome to play both stories back to back in the newer, better engine.
+ Speaking of the newer, better engine, the game is also bundled with a map editor and mod support, too.
+ There is multiplayer as well, so you can plug two controllers into your computer and you and a friend beat the crap out of each other in a sandbox environment and see whose skills are more fine-tuned.
CONS
- Nothing to note. I literally like everything about this game, and it's just really fun and really cool.
I legitimately think that this game is resoundingly amazing. Imagine taking a gamble as a developer and saying to others that you're making a game about a nomadic ninja rabbit and having them not laugh you out of the building. Well, David did that and now Wolfire have one of the coolest games around.
Bravo.

-If you get a big weapon you can 1 hit everything with no challenge
-Weapons reset in between maps (dropping everything I've picked up every 5 minutes is annoying but I see why you made it that way.)
-Even when in stealth the enemy heads lock onto you as if they can see you, the stealth in general is not clearly communicated to the player.
Overall 7/10. Can't wait to see what Wolfire does next!

Kicking enemies off cliffs, lodging knives in their skulls and snapping their necks with well-timed dropkicks is very satisfying and, for a combat nut like me, satisfying. Combined with parkour, you can come up with combos on the fly.
Parkour itself is well done, although it gets boring after a while. Playing through the main campaigns I saw myself doing the same movements over and over again, running up walls and hoisting myself up on the ledge.
Moddability is a great feature, since you can download sweet mods like levels, weapons, character models and whole campaigns to keep you playing the game.
That being said, however, I don't feel like this game deserves a $30 price tag. It lacks the $30 quality. The cutscenes have very basic coding into them, which makes cutscene battles very boring. You can compare the cutscenes to that of a visual novel.
So get this game while it's on sale.

I personally rater this game a 8.5/10 It's not an outstanding game alone.. BUT with MODS, IT'S AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT STORY.. and for that. It bumps up the rating to a 9.5/10. Great game, I recommend it.. but I suggest waiting for a deal.

Overgrowth is a bizarre, janky mess and if Steam allowed enough nuance in these review ratings for a recommendation equivalent of a shrug, that's where this'd be. In Overgrowth you play as a giant anthropomorphic rabbit, and run around jumping and kicking and beating people up as you progress through one of various storylines, all of which take themselves startlingly seriously for a game with a premise as silly as this. The controls and physics of the game all take some getting used to, and even simple tasks feel bizarrely awkward—it's all a bit of a mess, really.
But what makes Overgrowth interesting and what ultimately earns it that blue icon and thumbs-up at the end is how fun and engaging the traversal mechanics are. Simply put, it's a lot of fun to run around and hop up and down. There's a rudimentary physics engine at play here that is, despite being very gamey, very satisfying to see in action. Basically how high you jump depends on how long you hold down the jump button, and how fast you run depends on the slope of the ground your own—you trudge slowly uphill and race downhill. It's great.
The rest of the game? Not so great. The story is pretty dull and the combat super janky. The idea is that you hold down a button to fight when near an enemy (a kind of auto-combat, I guess?) but there are semi-active elements that require you to read your opponent—tapping a key just before an enemy attack lands to throw them, adjusting your stance up or down, throwing weapons from a distance. Even what appears to be a very crude stealth system, I think? It's a bit hard to tell. The story framing these adventures isn't anything special, nor are the visuals (environments are bland and small, surrounded by invisible walls) but in the end of the day, Overgrowth is an interesting and unique game. So even if it's nowhere near as polished as it could be or perhaps ought to be, I'm glad I gave it a shot. It had been languishing in my backlog, I am sorry to say, for a very long time.

The game is split into four storylines, the main one (and the only one with any polish) takes about 90 minutes to complete. The other storylines are not worth playing.
The core combat mechanic is good, but half of the game is badly designed platforming. The only fun part of the game takes a backseat to awkwardly leaping around a furry-fied low-fantasy world with Mound and Blade tier graphics.
Had I not received this game through the Humble Bundle, I would be asking for a refund.

Pros:
The amazing combat
Impressive animations
Great weapon handling
Realistic wounds; you can almost tell your health level down to the decimal just by looking at your character)
Cons:
The lackluster story; you pretty much feel disconnected from the characters and their actions (including yourself)
The linear story progression; your weapons don't even carry from level to level, no items besides weapons, there's no gameplay besides [ fight, cut scene, fight, cut scene, fight, ect... ]

rant
The Story is absolutely terrible.
Not only is it confusing due to at least 80 new characters you meet in the very short 1 hour 'ish campaign,
But every second person you meet has a disagreement due to personality or orders that you're to fight to the death,
and rather than coming to a solution -every single time- your friend ends up attacking you.
There's nothing in the story that keeps me interested.
If you bond with someone, then you can consider your friend to attack you 50% of the time.
and no this isn't some plot twist to try to keep you on edge, It's just poorly written to incorporate combat.
The only way to win in combat from my experience is Jump, then LMB everytime.
It's not WORTH standing there, blocking, throwing, and evading punches.
It's easier, quicker to Jump into battle with 2 feet forward for a power kick.
Using weapons against enemies, is not worth it.
I don't see it being beneficial,
Attack while trying not to get hit and MAYBE kill him,
or throw the weapon once to one hit them dead. -unless it's a Wolf.
Against enemies with weapons, It's impossible to block them unarmed, even with a weapon it's dodgy and feels fucking annoying.
So back to the Throw weapon, Jumping + LMB kick. The only two moves available.
Where's the tutorial? It was there but not complete,
like the game.
I still recommend it.
It's decent for a quick run through even with it's half-ass combat and no storyline, worth $5

That said, if you're not into making levels, can't be bothered to check out the workshop mods, and only play the campaigns, you will probably tire of this game pretty quickly. So do some research! It's not a bad game, but maybe not what you're expecting. The editor was always a big part of why I wanted this game, (the game was built without an engine, and you have access to all the same tools the devs do.) and so I was not at all disappointed, and if you want to build your own levels I doubt you will be either.
