Über das Spiel
Inducted into “The Office”--a top-secret department of the government’s Orwell security program--you’ll take on the role of an investigative agent during a time when civil unrest threatens to become a major political crisis between the Nation and neighboring country Parges.
Reporting directly to Orwell adviser, Ampleford, you‘re tasked with uncovering the truth behind the escalating political tension, and delving deep into the lives of Raban Vhart, editor of The People’s Voice and self-proclaimed guardian of truth, his wife, Karen, and his brother, Illya, to uncover their potential involvement.
To assist you in your task, you will be given new tools and mechanics that provide opportunities to control and impact the narrative. A new “time of day” system puts you in time-sensitive situations, making who you chose to investigate and when, more important than ever. You can also research more widely and dig deeper into citizen’s lives, gathering additional information to influence the way events are reported and perceived by the public.
FEATURES:
Investigate the agitators - Enter the world of Orwell and join a top-secret department of agents known as “The Office” during a time of civil unrest and political tension. Profile persons of interest by exploring web pages, social media and private communications. Make connections. Find the information you need to know.
Uncover the truth - Separate the stories from the facts, the propagated myths and fake news from what’s really happening. Identify the hidden agendas of all those involved and expose them.
Manipulate the information - Use Orwell’s upgraded toolset and the information you have uncovered to create your own version of the truth. Then use that to gain influence and control over the situation.
End the threat - Expose the truth. Destroy the lives and influence of those who seek to bring harm to the government and diplomatic relations with neighboring countries. Put an end to the civil unrest threatening to destroy the Nation.
Releasing over three episodes - The game will release on PC, Mac and Linux across three bi-weekly episodes, with episode one available February 22. Be part of the investigation as it unfolds.

The story isn't bad per se, and it even has some connections to the base game, but the narrative is rather predictable and your choices don't seem to matter much. Basically, you just read through the articles and feed the data chunks to Orwell, not much to chose from. Sure, there's some replayability in there, but the course of action is very linear, and playing the game again just to get a slightly different outcome doesn't seem appealing to me.
So I generally don't recommend this game, I suggest you'd rather read a book. Any book you'd like, really.

An excellent sequel if you liked the first one
Season 2 is like Terminator 2. You have the lore and the tool but you want a different approach, twist a little bit the things and improve what was done with the first one!
Same as the first one, the game consists in looking at various website pages, listening to calls, checking emails and searching PC/Phone files. You need to find information related to a person you are investigating to unlock more documents. Example: You find a contact email on a website, you can then see emails sent to that mailbox.
If you enjoyed the first game, you will enjoy this one for sure. A lot of things were improved:
-A branching story with consequences that carry over on all episodes
-No more dragging any piece of data you see as time passes each time you process them
-You can also INPUT information, which means in some pages, you need to search with something you extracted before
-A completely new plugin to Orwell! (no spoiler)
Gameplay has been improved although it also makes the game a little bit more difficult and I sometimes couldn't get something to appear as a target info even though I KNEW it would have been a target info.
The best part of this season 2 is obviously the story! After season 1, it HAD to be something different and while season 1 was more of a detective game, this time, it's more of a manhunt!
It has 3 episodes and felt a bit shorter than season 1 but the branching choices are much better and you can really end up with completely different endings (almost) manipulating [strike]the information[/strike], [strike]the people[/strike] the truth.
I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoyed episode 1 and anyone who enjoy a good easy to pickup detective/lost phone found type story.

In this title however, person(s) of interest are nothing but irrational stereotypes that are there just to act a certain way demanding on your choices. Developers put characters who have a historic background, daily lives and risks for losing all they have in situations that are so wild only legitimation in my opinion is just deliver different endings for the game for your entertainment. This waters down the message about surveillance and concept of truth.

I did not enjoy this one nearly as much. I felt almost like the whole game felt like a tutorial (you were very often interrupted and guided along rather than being able to do your own searching). I thought the social media/misinformation spreading feature was interesting but then it barely got used and was also all tutorial-like. I also didn't find the story as good this time around either.
OK if you pick it up on sale, and it's an interesting enough ethical premise to think about government surveillance but overall not a very compelling playthrough.

The actions you took in the original game can be loaded to affect your playthrough in the second, however I didn't really get to see the consequences of the havoc I wrought at the end of the first game.
There are effectively turn limits in Ignorance is Strength. Every time you upload something into Orwell it takes ten minutes of game time. There are cases when you have figure something out before a certain time, like 6 p.m. It does create some tension, but it's a bit overused. I liked the relaxed mood in the original Orwell.
Despite being a short game, there are a few alternate endings. However... getting to see them is not fun. You cannot save whenever you want and create multiple savefiles during a single run. It means if you want to try to do things differently, you have to start from the beginning. I wish they at least included the option that you could start from the beginning of any chapter after finishing the game once.
There is also voice acting when eavesdropping on phone calls. The acting is fine, but what is not fine is that you cannot skip them although you've already heard them once. This only serves to make a second playthrough even more tedious.
The Orwell sequel is not bad, but the abrupt ending left a bad taste in my mouth. I still wanted more, so I thought of trying to start from beginning. However due to having replay all of the dull bits again, it just managed to piss me off. Now I don't even want to play more. I was happier before I played the sequel.

They took everything that made Orwell great and slightly improved upon it - while holding your hand through the entire thing. The game is great, the narrative is alright, and the new features that we barely used were very interesting, but it felt like the game played itself and I never stepped out of the tutorial. I would like to go through and get the rest of the branching paths, but the lack of content here makes me incredibly happy that I got this for a low cost.
If you REALLY liked Orwell, this is worth a shot. But its incredibly surface level, short, and I even encountered a gamebreaking bug upon reloading a save. It was a good way to spend 2 hours on a Saturday night.

Graphics: Only as good as necessary, but doing their job. The websites are designed differently and make it interesting to look deeper into the story or even not too relevant background information that unfold by reading them.
Sound: Also reduced to a bare minimum, but with amazing voice actors! Especially when they're arguing, the voice actors convey the characters' feelings really well.
Gameplay: Mostly clicking through different websites or mails and gathering information may sound boring at first, but it's not. There are lots of different paths and conclusions to take that get you to question if absolute truth really exists.
Story: Definetely the strongest part of the game. It begins slowly, but then quickly picks up speed as more and more backgrounds are disclosed. It deals with corruption, terrorism, fake news, secret services and spies by letting you decide which path you wanna go in the end by providing different endings to encounter.
In a nutshell I would definetely recommend the game to everyone that loves great stories and is not too lazy to read. If you prefer gameplay over story and dislike reading in games, then this game is not for you. 9.99€ is a fair, but definetely not cheap price.

You've been recruited as a government agent whose job is to (initially) find out what happened to an informant who has disappeared. From there, you go on to uncover a web of contacts, centered around the publisher of an anti-government blog.
You'll be using a state-sponsored program to accomplish your goals - Orwell - which allows you to log into any website or device as the targets you are investigating. From there, it's just a matter of picking through their private correspondence to uncover the links that you need...
There's some flexibility in what you do - in particular, certain pieces of information are contradictory. For instance, something that says that 'Bob was always on time' versus something that says 'Bob is chronically late to work'. Depending on which information you choose to upload into the system, the outcome may be significantly different.
I've gotten two endings. Apparently there's at least two others, but (at least in my opinion) I don't think there's enough content to justify trying to get those other endings - as it was, most of my second playthrough was rushing past content I'd already read through once, and only paying attention to anything new that came up.
TL;DR: Worth playing if you're okay with a lot of reading. Given the length, I'd probably recommend looking for a sale (or a Humble Bundle release, which is how I got it.)

While not as long as the first Orwell game at 5-9+ hours to complete, with 3 chapters and 4 endings, it’s definitely worth checking out if you enjoyed Orwell: Keeping an Eye On You. You can connect your playthroughs together as both games take place at the same time, so your choices in the previous game show up in news headlines in this one. (Does not affect the story, just articles and a letter.) This game introduces new mechanics, a search engine, the ability to manipulate news headlines, and timed events. Every piece of info you add to Orwell increases time by 10 min, but it doesn’t make the game difficult as you can reach your goal hours ahead of the cut-off. The storyline was more focused in this one, around one central character, but I guarantee Orwell: Ignorance is Strength deserves its positive reviews!

Very good voice actors, Raban sounds very much like a villain.
New mechanics and an attempt to connect the story with the first part is a plus, but still imo this game would benefit more from having a lot more personalities as targets.

A good improvement is that phone dialogues are now dubbed. However, one still cannot skim through those dialogues and has to wait for the whole audio plays through. This becomes rather annoying when trying to explore outcomes of different branches of the story, which is indispensable for 100% achievements.
Not recommended, unless you have nothing better to do or are really great fan of the previous title and want more of something similar.

On top of that, a good chunk of the playtime is spent listening to unskippable dialogue and meandering phone conversations without being able to click or interact with anything - sometimes for minutes at a time. Many of the phone/live text conversations would have been more tolerable if the option to skip through lines or simply just read. The voice acting is decent, not amazing, but still broke my immersion simply due to its absolutely glacial pace of narration.
The slow pace of the game exists even though each slow animation as you upload pieces of information. I spent about 2 hours playing the game, but I'd say without the amount of animation and dialogue audio time-padding, the actual playtime is much, much shorter.

With the new influencer mechanic, the game brings in themes reminiscent of modern 'cancel culture', and the pressure that people often feel when they become the target of a campaign - to be able to manipulate these things is a terrifyingly powerful tool in an age where many live a solid portion of their lives online. This results in a more interesting & involved scenario where you're not chasing down ordinary criminals that you can send the cops after, but a man with a powerful reputation.
How do you deal with a man who's reputation is his sole weapon? By destroying his reputation, of course. This game takes that path to its logical conclusion, and in some ways, takes form as a battle of wits between you and the antagonist. Amplifying that feeling is a slight shift in tone in the story telling; the original Orwell game focused on the morality of surveillance, this game focuses more on the potential of not only information gathering, but information manipulation.
It's a huge amount of fun, and I found the story interesting from beginning to end. The reactions/results to the choices/gambits I made weren't always what I expected, but always made sense - keeping me on my toes, and making it feel as though every action I took had weight.
I definitely recommend playing this game if you enjoy story-focused games, or 1984-inspired conspiracy/dystopia settings.

But this game pales in comparison to the original.

Additionally, I have to agree that anything over $3 is not worth it. I was really disappointed because the first game was amazing that I bought the second one right away. While the different paths was fun, and I could see myself enjoying it further, I was shocked that episode 3 was the last one. It felt like I had JUST unlocked a new fun tool before reading that it would be the last episode.
I have to refund this game. After two clean restarts, there is no other way I can get past this one bug. If it's been 2 years and they haven't fixed it, I can't imagine they will fix it anytime soon. Sorry.

But the funny thing is, I can't progress past the start of episode 3.
It seems there's code missing to a little decision I made, a bug. The first bug report was filed in 2019 on their page, but nothing has been done to fix it. Because not a lot of people chose that decision in the game. So here I am stuck, defeated, wasted 5 hours on game play. My only possibility is to restart the whole game, because the producers did not include the ability to be able to restart an episode by itself until you finished the whole game.
I will report the bug again, but mind you, I am disappointed to waste my time only to know that there is no way to reverse the datachunk I uploaded and therefore also no way to progress. Replaying 3 episodes is a bit too much, don't you think?
I will ofcourse update my review when the bug is solved by the team. If anyone knows a way to solve this, please help. See the steam discussion at: https://steamcommunity.com/app/633060/discussions/0/1642042464755150272/

I can see a lot of effort went into making it, all of the dialogue is voice acted and there are new features that were not in the original however the game is shorter and the pacing drags at times. There is also a noticeable absence of sound effects which I felt added a lot to the previous game.
You also can't skip the voiced dialogue which made replays of it deeply frustrating to the point that I gave up before seeing all of the endings, something I enjoyed doing in the previous game as well. Perhaps I'm comparing it to it's predecessor too much but I don't believe I would have enjoyed the game either way. I simply did not find the story as compelling and got stuck frequently while playing.
If you enjoyed Orwell, this game might still be for you but if you're new to the series don't let this be your introduction to Orwell.

How does the game expect us to spend all those hours sharpening our investigative skills in the last title, and this extension, only to see the end game ruined when we are expected to create a social media influence campaign based on the intelligence uncovered.
At no point prior were we exposed to the influence tool and had a chance to test out which statements would make the biggest impact. Instead you have to choose between a few counter narratives, which may or may not work in a seemingly random manner.
The investigation piece was fine, and I am a bit salty about getting the bad ending, but only because the game trains you for one thing, only for the end game to decided by another mechanic. Cheated!

For me the first game was, frankly, not difficult. Once I'd figured out the basic mechanic it turned into an exploration of the story and an exercise of deciding what I wanted to convey.
In this game, they added a new mechanic; perhaps that's what pushed it over the line. Now, for me, the game is an exercise of guessing what the developers wanted me to do next. I'm constantly running out of things that feel relevant or that expand the database in a direction that feels relevant, but am blocked from progressing until I find something.
I'm also wondering if the authoring of the sequel was a bit more rushed, which wouldn't be surprising. There have been a couple of times when direction from my operative seemed to suggest there were multiple routes open to me, but a pretty thorough exploration of the game tree led me to believe there was really only one route forward. Maybe the other would open up later, after I'd explored the first route a bit, or maybe it'd been foreclosed by some decision I made earlier, but the signposting was misleading.

I enjoyed playing through the game once, but when I went to play through it a second time with the knowledge I had from my first play through it was not enjoyable. You're forced to enter information into Orwell at points even when you don't want to, or know that it is bad information but you can't access the next set of data chunks until you advance the time. It comes to a point when there is nothing but useless or incorrect information and you're forced to enter it which really detracts from the feeling that the MC can really affect the situation at all. It also makes him/you look incompetent.
The ending was also really unfulfilling.

It built upon this first game by adding a new objective. You now have to search for information (still have to drag data chunks to do so though)
It's quite annoying though when you notice bits of data to act upon before you can use it - e.g. when looking at the brother's bank account I noticed the charge for the Hotel straight away, I would have liked to explore this quicker as doing so is quite time consuming (in the game)
You also have an opportunity to place information out into the world which is quite interesting too
However this seems quite limited, when trying to stop Raban from exposing the government or something, seems to rely on the speed of information collected, which would be easier if data chunks were readily available depending on what you thought - I think maybe letting everything be available and the user chooses what to do could be interesting. But this might be difficult to do/time consuming?
I think that there could have been more chapters for this game, the first had 5, and this one had 3. I finished this game quite quickly - but on day two I hit a bit of a road block, which I have noticed in other people's reviews. Might be a bug? But once you get past this, everything else goes 'smoothly' (gameplay -
storyline not so much
Overall it was an okay game - but the first one is definitely better, I also liked how there were hints alluding to the first chapter, with characters popping up
e.g. Cassandra
but you can't really interact with them. I also like the option of working with the investigator that you were in the first game - as these chapters unravel in the same time period.
You could buy it, but I'd say get the first one only, or wait for a bundle deal to get both

It is slightly different, in that it has a timer that limits the number of actions you can perform (each action takes time), so theoretically this should have made for a more interesting game, as you now have an actions limit set to achieve your tasks.
Unfortunately, this game has the same major issue the original suffered from: Continuing the flow of the plot depends on you submitting data that is completely irrelevant to the plot. So random, useless piece of data submitted will suddenly trigger an important phone call.
Which basically negates the new mechanic which is supposed to limit your actions, and force you to only submit relevant data.
Beyond that - the plot is not as good as in the first game. The story is not as interesting, and your work feels less important: in the original you were catching terrorists, here you're incriminating dissidents (people who oppose the government).
But ultimately, the reason I'm giving the game a negative review - is that a bug in the game causes it to become stuck at the end of day 2. There is no more data to process, no walkthrough I found on the internet shows any additional steps available during day 2, and yet the game doesn't allow me to progress or end the day.
The game forums are full of reports from people being stuck this way, dating back to the game's release 2 years ago - and yet the game still contains this bug.
I'm sorry, but that's just a complete disrespect of the people who paid money for this game.
It does not deserve a positive review.

the first game was a deep-dive series of moral questions of using a surveillance system on citizens. this game feels like a dlc side-story where i essentially cyber-bully a guy for questioning the government. there aren't any stakes for the player nor any driving interest to keep you on your mission other than someone barking orders at you.
the gameplay is fairly linear - there were times where all i was doing was searching for a quote that would let me progress. the side text isn't particularly interesting and i even started skipping reading the main text mid-chapter 2. the time mechanic is interesting, but only used once and is inconsequential unless you're looking for one particular ending; i wish they expanded more on that (for example making data only available for certain times).
anyway, instead of playing this for 2-3 hrs for a forgettable story, get the first game. much better story and branches.

I played the first part some time ago and really liked it. Unfortunately, Ignorance is Strength lacks some aspects that made its predecessor so good.
There's not really an interesting story anywhere and there are no big surprises that have any real impact on the narrative. The story seems to start off as an unsolved mystery like the bombing in the first game, but it quickly turns into a fight between two specific parties that does not fundamentally change throughout the game. Yes, at the very end, you can get a new perspective on this conflict if you follow a certain lead. But at that point the story has literally already come to an end.
The circumstances and the context of the story are not interesting enough. The back story of the main conflict is a civil war that is never really elaborated on. And now you only know that the main antagonist group thinks the state is bad, but it never goes any further than that. You can't gain any information about the state in question, really. This entire plot just becomes incredibly superficial because of that, and I just can't get into it.
The writing is bad. The statements and articles of the antagonists you read for the most part seem like a joke. The dialogues are silly and the voice acting often also feels robotic.
Nonetheless, I liked some of the new ideas that were introduced. I just think more could have been done with it and the plot has a lot more potential. It's not a bad-bad game, but significantly less interesting than the first one. I recommend waiting for a sale if you want to play it. Otherwise, if you're new to the series, try the first one first.

The characters were very poor, a much weaker selection and with awful voice acting accompanied by bad writing. In the first Orwell game, the cast of characters was brilliant. Diverse and deep, they helped to progress the game through empathy and suspicion.
Continuous twists and turns alongside the dramatic cuts in music were thrown aside, and the story became predictable, simple and uninteresting. I was almost glad the game was only 3 hours, as I felt no interest in it's narrative.
On the other hand, the investigative side was interesting. With new elements such as a searching feature and influence creator, there was a greater depth and difficulty to the investigative side. I did find this frustrating at times, however, as there were some plot holes in the websites that didn't make sense.
I don't think this was a terrible game, but merely disappointing. The first game being so good, my expectations were high. Those expectations were however significantly reduced as soon as I heard the voice acting, I must say.
Definitely play the first, this isn't worth anything more than that. Play it with low expectations.
