Also seid gewarnt ;)

Leider hat das Spiel einen, wie ich finde, sehr nervigen Aspekt den man vorher wissen sollte;

Falsch gedacht ! - Die Fortsetzung Ori and the Will of the Wisps hat mich eines besseren belehrt.
Fazit : Bestes Game ever neben seinem Vorgänger und The Legend of Zelda : Breath of the Wild von Nintendo.

Doch genug davon.

Pros:
- Art is dope.
- Music is dope.
- Story is pretty good, with characters I liked
- The platforming is fun, and they give you tons of tools to just go crazy. There isn't any punishment for using your weapons or other methods to do skips, which is pretty neat. The platforming is the best part of the game.
- The constant addition of new skills makes the game exciting. I never felt stuck.
- The spirit trials are fun. They were a good addition.
- You can't just buy everything immediately. It actually ended up pretty perfect for me. As I was getting every collectible I was just barely able to afford the last purchase.
Cons:
- I was excited when I heard that this game had a larger combat focus than the previous game. I was a bit disappointed. I don't think the art style meshes with the combat. There is so much going on with the foreground and the background that just clouds up the fights. The hit boxes are also pretty ambiguous. I wanted it to be Hollow Knight, just like I wanted the first one to be Hollow Knight. It was not.
I did like the final boss though. It had the same problems the other boss fights had, but it made up for it by being super cool.
- some of the quests are boring
- It's really not a very long game, especially if you're paying 30 dollars for it
If you liked the first one, you'll probably like this one even more. I thought the first one was okay, a well-made game that wasn't what I was looking for. I liked this one better.

Will of the Wisps does away with the (retrospectively) rudimentary combat system from Blind Forest, which had you spam x. In this game you are granted a light and heavy attack to start, and earn other kinds of attacks along the way.
The iconic chase scenes from the first game are back and just as cinematic. On top of that, there are real boss fights in this game, now that you are equipped with real methods of attacking (and even those toss in a cool chase scene just for fun.)
I thought that the movement in the first game was very fun, but of course as a successor, Will of the Wisps tosses in even more fantastic movement options. The game eases you into these control schemes very well, with each area culminating in some fun challenge to surpass that heavily uses the new ability. (Side note, the game starts you off with wall climbing in this sequel, mostly eliminating the frustration of under powered movement for the first part of the game.)
The level design of both games is great, and there was never a time where I felt frustrated by an area that felt unfair. The secrets in the map are built very intuitively with visual cues that reward the player with the feeling of intelligence. In my time playing there was maybe one time I was tempted to look up a solution to a small puzzle, but nothing is complicated enough to warrant that, in retrospect.
The art and story are great, and the game simply wouldn't be as great if the graphics were undercut in some way.
You really must try it.

>Controls and movement finally feel more precise and smooth and less floaty, all while offering a whole lot more variety in terms of platforming
>Combat is actually engaging and offers a more diverse choice of how to approach enemies; felt more like a forced necessity in the first game
>Improved visuals, music, and sounds which flow extremely well together creating distinctive and immersive ambiances in the different areas; was okay in the first game but the sequel actually managed to enchant me at times
>Well written story and a larger number of interesting side characters make the world feel alive
>More exploration, secrets, and side quests, and an overall satisfying completion
>No more overload of stupid one-shot mechanics

Fluid movement and straightforward combat, Controls feels smooth even without controller.
Plot:
Simple, somewhat predictable, yet emotional.
Graphics:
Consistently stunning. Amazing mix of colours.
Sound:
General sound effects are great, the soundtrack is the icing on the cake.
Others:
The game continuously provides new ways to move and combat throughout the game. (Learning curve)
Decent amount of achievements and optional quests to 100% the game. (Replayability)
Cons (Practically nitpicking):
Difficulty is locked once selected.
Some might dislike the autosave compared to the player-controlled saves in Blind Forest.
Final:
10/10. Play it even if platforming isn't your thing, game is easily a steal even at full price. Look forward to more sequels.

What a phenomenal game.
I would highly recommend this game to anyone, especially those who have played Ori and the Blind Forest.
This game takes everything I loved from the first Ori and improves and expands on each of those aspects. The combat is more satisfying and much more fleshed out with a greater variety of tools Ori can use. The movement expands on that of the first game with new movement abilities and a greater sense of flow throughout each level. It certainly helps that spike hazards in the levels don't one-hit kill Ori (if I recall, spikes would instantly kill Ori in the first game which I found to be frustrating).
And of course the major pros include the beautiful soundtrack, the jaw-dropping artwork and smooth animations, the epic escape set pieces that test your skill with the game's movement system, and a fantastic continuation of where the first Ori left off with a story that tugged at my heart strings at certain parts and completely destroyed me at others, leaving me sobbing by the end of the game.
I only ever encountered glitches/bugs once or twice in my whole playthrough and I did notice that exiting the game causes the game to stop responding before requiring someone to close it once given the error message. Ultimately, I don't think these issues affected my time playing the game negatively enough to change my mind on how I feel about it.

Naturally, this cuteness can only last so long, and it isn’t long before Ori and Ku fly into a horrible storm over a nasty, shadowy forest. You get separated from Ku, and it is up to Ori to venture into this scary new world to rescue his friend/daughter.
Visually, this game is pretty spectacular; it makes excellent use of light and dark, the enemies are menacing but have a certain glowy aesthetic appeal to them, while the various allied creatures are cute or cool looking. Everything in this game looks really good.
On top of that, the game works quite well at pulling at your heartstrings. Not only are characters emotive, with Ori holding and hugging Ku, and sometimes getting hugs back, but the world has problems and the game does a good job of making you want to protect the people in it from them. The darkness is forboding, and bad things are happening to good people who are helping you out – or just trying to survive.
As such, the game does a really good job of making you feel bad for the characters, and while it doesn’t always hit, it generally does, even if it ends up making the game a bit predictable at times. Still, these developments work well, and we do feel bad for various characters – even the villains at times, as we understand the origin of their dark feelings.
If I had a quibble with the aesthetic half of the game, it is that the narrator is a bit of a weak point. The game probably would have been more powerful if it hadn’t had one, and while there IS a plot-related reason for their existence, I’m not sure that the payoff from it was ultimately worth the exposition.
The gameplay, too, is really good. Ori’s movements are really fluid, and his command set is quite solid – you eventually gain the ability to double and triple jump, air dash, “bash” (launching yourself off of enemies or projectiles in mid-air, which will also send the enemy/projectile flying in the opposite direction, making it useful both offensively and for mobility), float (which isn’t actually that useful by the time you get it, but still appreciated), climb up walls and walljump, and generally get all the abilities you’d expect to. But what makes the game work well is that Ori’s movements are really smooth, and it feels good to control him – Ori is highly responsive to your commands, and easy to control and get to do what you want him to do.
There are a number of interesting environments to go through, with a variety of mechanics; these include not only interesting platforming puzzles, but things like darkness that closes in around you and which requires you to dash from light to light, or icy areas that you need to thaw out by manipulating projectiles and getting them to the right location.
There are even some very interesting timed segments, where you are trying to escape from some big horrible monster, or a catastrophe like an avalanche or flood, and have to keep moving as the environment disintegrates around you. These are really cool, and end up taking up the space of most of the boss fights in the game – they actively test your platforming skills, and are long enough to be exciting and present at least some challenge while short enough not to be obnoxiously long. This extends to some “spirit races” as well, where you race a ghostly spirit to some destination for a reward.
Ori also does something else important – it actually has good pacing. Many Metroidvanias are a bit lame at the start of the game, but Ori manages to engage the audience with an unfamiliar landscape, excellent visuals while carrying around only a torch as a weapon, and getting the player some extra movement abilities early enough to avoid feeling stale.
The game’s only real weakness is the combat, but it is a rather significant one. Ori’s own abilities are actually pretty cool – he has quite a variety of combat powers, and there’s even a “shard system” that allows you to modify them. The problem is, the game fails to make interesting use of them. Almost every enemy can be beaten with your basic attack, the few who can’t can be beaten with a hammer smash ability you buy, and… that’s about it. None of them really present a significant challenge, and only one type of standard enemy even remotely represents any sort of mechanical threat, and even they are pretty easily bypassed or defeated.
As a result, the enemies in the game end up feeling pretty samey after a while, something which isn’t helped by a lack of variety in them – there’s not that many enemy types, and none of them do anything particularly interesting. But they’re all over the place, and the game seems to think they represent something challenging – even though they’re very easy and not super interesting to fight.
The game is also lacking in interesting boss fights. While there are the “boss escape sequences”, the game still has you fight a half-dozen bosses – but these aren’t tremendously interesting. The bosses almost all have very basic attack patterns, and the only real dangers from them after the very beginning of the game (where your resources are very limited against a beetle boss, the second boss in the game) is falling off into bottomless pits and dying during sequences where you need to escape from them.
On top of this, while the game has mostly quite good pacing, with reasonably sized areas, the bosses are not very well spread out; you fight two at the very beginning of the game, but the middle part of the game has none that you fight. There is a point where the game opens up and you can choose which area to go to next, and I went to literally every one of the bossless areas first – resulting in me facing two bosses at the very start of the game, and the other four at the very end, with none in-between. This felt kind of weird, doubly so as one of the bosses runs off rather than being “beaten” and felt like it was going to return, and then never did.
As such, while the game excels in most ways, it ends up falling short in the area of combat – something that the game gives you a ton of skills to use in, but which you have little cause to use because there’s just no point in doing so.
The shard system, too, was a bit of a disappointment; in theory, there were a bunch of different shards you could equip, but in practice, because some basic movement abilities were equippable (like the triple jump and wall cling), and others were just really big QOL improvements (a magnetic ability that sucks in the spirit light that is the game’s currency, and another ability that caused enemies to drop more spirit light, making it easier to buy more upgrades), you often didn’t really have a lot of slots to play around with, resulting in basically equipping and keeping the same set of mostly utility shards for most of the game.
Still, that is but a minor quibble.
In the end, Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a very good game, which is held back from greatness by its weak combat. But the fluidity of Ori’s movement, combined with the game’s excellent aesthetics and ability to engage the player with the game’s plot worked to make this a very engaging experience on the whole. I had fun with the game, and the ending, while bittersweet, was a nice bow on the series.
Overall, I’d recommend this game to anyone who enjoys Metroidvanias, especially if they like the look of the game, but know that the combat is not the main attraction of the game.

Review of “Ori and the Will of the Wisps”, also known as “Who cuts the onions Part Two”
(TLDR at the end... just read a bit, you lazy person!)
Recommendation: If you haven’t played the first game, you should play that one first!
In the sequel to “Ori and the Blind Forest”, Ori’s journey continues, facing new enemies, meeting new friends and allies. The story that Moon Studios is telling is heartwarming. If you played the first game you should know by now that by purchasing this game, you will have to go the extra mile and invest in some safety-tissues! Jokes asides (well it wasn’t really a joke)
After having played through the game three times, Ori and The Will of the Wisps is one of my personal favorite games. Ori’s second adventure takes the foundation of what made the first game so special and revolutionizes the formular and expands in scale, size, and quality in all aspects.
First of all, there is the new fighting system. Fighting in “The Blind Forest” was fun, but the aspect that got overhauled the most for this game. Ori can now choose between different weapons that handle fundamentally different: From a Sword, bow and spear to a hammer. Each one requires a different playstyle during combat and has its advantages and disadvantages against the huge enemy variety. Passive skills in form of shards, can be found and many new abilities get unlocked the further you get into the game. The controls are snappy, Ori always does what you expect him to do and when you die, you never feel like it is the games’ fault. Whatever you do, the input translated into the character-movement perfectly.
In Will of the Wisps, Ori’s story continues right where the previous game ended. Without spoiling anything, the themes of friendship, family and love play a big role. On the way Ori meets many new friends in different areas, each featuring a unique biome that also adds new gameplay twists and puzzle elements to the gameplay-mix. The general flow of the game is well executed, the pacing and difficulty scaling always felt well balanced…and yes: the escape sequences also make a comeback! bossfights and these well-known Escape sequences test your acquired skillset while never being unfair. You will die a lot, but overcoming each challenge feels super satisfying! (No need for tissues here!...
except you are a pervert
)
The platforming feels as great as ever. The traversal through the different areas always feels satisfying and the level design itself features lots of variety and different gameplay-mechanics.
All of that is supported by exceptional graphics powered by Moonity (MoonStudios modified Unity engine, check out the DigitalFoundry Interview to see how it works in action!). The superb lighting system, the beautifully handcrafted art assets, the physically based “squash and stretch” animations and lots of tiny details make each rendered look like a painting!
When we talk about Ori, we cannot forget to talk about the exceptional soundtrack. Gareth Coker elevates Ori’s emotional journey with a fitting heartwarming, intense soundtrack for each part of the game. Ori’s theme from the original game gets some fresh takes, getting woven together with new themes. Each new character and environment get treated musically with a thematic approach. The soundtrack strikes the right amount of “Damn bitches, I’m back!”-nostalgia feeling and “that new piece sounds quite sick!” that you would want for a sequel! …Seriously, the game is worth it for the music alone already!
TLDR/Summary
All in all, “Ori and the Will of the Wisps” has fun and challenging gameplay, with a beautiful visuals and music that result in atmosphere. No matter if you have played any platforming game before or not, you should give the Ori games a try! The emotional story results in a heartwarming and memorable journey that you shouldn’t miss! It is one of those games I can play over and over again, with my mighty tissue box next to me, escaping the world for a while.
Fantastic music, story development and characters that will most certainly captivate you.
I do like how the fighting mechanics developed from the first game, it makes it much more enjoyable and challenging, where you should remember and take into account different weapons to fight different enemies.
I also like that bosses were introduced, quite a big change from the first game.
An extraordinary experience everyone should have.

The story is very touching and is sure to make you emotional. You quickly grasp what your goal is in the game when you start to play it. I nearly put in 20 hours of playtime due to how much there was to explore and secrets to find.
The enviroment was beautiful. The artstyle was amazing and each area was packed with colours to soothe your eyes. I dont even know how many screenshots I took from the cutscenes or certain fights due to the astounding graphics.
I loved how many NPCS there was and the addition of side quests. The fact that you werent alone. But could talk to other characters and see if they needed anything. One side quest even helping out to build a town.
The soundtracks are enough to give you an orgasm. Each area had very fitting music. Some cheerful, some calm, some very touching. I find the music the best part of the game. I was honestly like an addiction to listen to it.
11/10. I can't come up with any negatives about this game and Ifeel like this amount of text isn't enough to describe how good Will of the Wisps was. A+ Masterpiece.

Combat plays a much larger role this time around. Rather than just fleeing gigantic foes and oncoming hazards (which there is still plenty of!) one of the biggest changes in Will of the Wisps is the addition of boss fights, which I found to be a welcome one. There's just something more satisfying about actually being able to face them instead of just scrambling your way to a narrow escape every time.
As with Blind Forest, the difficulty is on the higher end, even on easy mode. It's a also a tearjerker, arguably even more so this time around. I really loved this series. I think it will always hold a special place in my heart.

+ Beautiful graphics
+ Outstanding music
+ Great gameplay
+ More NPC and side quest
- Autosave
In the previous game, you could save whenever you wanted as long as there's no enemy present and that means you can save right before/after a hard time.
But this game use an autosave mechanic that works like a checkpoint, sometimes you need to redo everything again and again because you die before the next autosave point.
- Minor bugs. For example, some achievements (such as Shard Specialist, Lost and Found, etc.) won't unlocked, until I restart the game

When I played 1st part I was just shocked how good that game was , and still is. Music was perfect , gameplay hard but fair , and story just brilliant.
Now the 2nd game , I have no words for it , I mean I do but ya get what I meant. The game , I was little sad that they lowered difficulty from the 1st game , but also glad cuz more peeps can enjoy this.
The level's I loved them they were one of the most creative things I saw mixed with good artstyle it was just too enjoyable to watch and make allota screenshots. Just mixing all skills and doing it with a light speed was so good , also when the Ori is just so jumpy and full of life.
The graphics are brilliant , shading , coloring just top tier. Artstyle is just astonishing , it's so beautiful , u can't keep ur eyes off it.Characters are very , very well written , they're pesonalities just go with their look and what they do all day , while walking next to them u wanted to talk to them cuz u wanted not u needed to.
Level design is rlly creative with all of these skills mixed together making one of the best puzzles I've seen.Just the fireball that u thrown seemed for me kinda useless , but most were useful trought whole game.
Story , I kinda had problems that there's another bad guy and u need to save another woods but this whole spirit species and the backstory of it , it's something I love , Ending was rlly beautiful even if we are no longer gonna see Ori. I guess it was for the best u can't make the series live forever , especially to destroy series this beautiful.Just breath taking.
I know I said it's the end of it etc. but I would be rlly glad to see Ori in future even if game it's gonna take tons of time , but it's just me how I loved this series. Thank you for reading~ and u should play it 100%
I rate it like 1st one , 9,5/10
Goodbye Ori~

First of all I want to thank all of the developers and artists who worked to create this masterpiece. You are awesome. This game to be honest, has no downsides as a game. One of the best soundtracks out there. Both melancholic and inspiring from time to time with it's unique melodies.
The gameplay never gets repetitive, almost always adding new mechanics both to combat your opponents and navigate your way through the map. Enemies themselves are appropriate with the theme of the game and each have their unique attack and moving patterns which are well-designed.
The story is a heart warming and mostly a slow-paced one. The character development of each character is well designed. Even Ori ,after hours of being controlled by us, show a major change character wise. The relationship between Ori and every character is unique and gives you something to remember them by. These 23 hours that I wasted, no, I willingly gave to this game are, I think one of the best ones I did playing a game. Again, one of the easiest *10/10* I give.

They improved over the first game in every way. The pacing is perfect, the level of difficulty is exactly where it needs to be. The level design is intelligent. The artwork is first-class. The game audio and soundtrack are second to none. The fantastical ambiance and beautifully chosen color palettes will take your breath away. The story telling is touching. It has deep, easy-to-understand systems that let you tailor the gameplay to YOUR style. I can't say enough great things about this game.
If you're on the fence or just haven't gotten around to playing this yet, do yourself a favor and go for it! I was able to complete almost everything the game has to offer on normal in about 15 hours, so it's not a huge time sink, but it's definitely time well spent! I am really hoping they make at least one more Ori for a complete masterpiece trilogy, but if they don't, I'm glad I at least got to play this game!

Even with how well-made of a game Blind Forest was, Ori and the Will of the Wisps somehow found a way to top that. The music introduces unique motifs while still referencing themes from the first game. The graphics are prettier (I hope you have a good computer!), and the story is much more complex with many more characters and inter-connected conflicts. But, best of all, Will of the Wisps addressed the biggest problem that Blind Forest had in regards to gameplay: The combat. Will of the Wisps, taking inspiration from Hollow Knight, completely revamped the Ori game's combat system to make it feel more involved and less of a left-click-spam-to-win.
The game feels streamlined and immersive. No complaints on my end, besides maybe the map interface being a little difficult to navigate on keyboard + mouse. Overall, I enjoyed every minute I played of this game and even 100%'d it all achievements.
I cannot recommend this game enough.

Even a month after finishing the game i still think about it and miss the characters and world so much, there are many points in the game where you will tear up and feel weak as this game is extremely emotional. You form a bond with the characters and you feel what they feel when you play this game.
I am so happy I got to experience this game. So many people lived and died up to this point and never got to experience this. I am really grateful to have been part of this journey!
If you liked Blind Forest, you will love this! Don't spoil it for yourself, go get it! I recommend that you play this game alone, uninterrupted, so you get sucked into the game world and get to experience it fully!

Poor less emotional more cliché story, no major improvements to the style of game, no new stand out music tracks, worse escape sections that are so easy I would end up dying by getting too far ahead of something that is supposed to break open my path as it draws closer, wastes potential of having Ori and the Owl work together outside of one short segment. Side quests are basically just fetch activities, and there just isn't much reason for some of the abilities. Often had some framerate drops a few minutes after starting that would later just go away as it remained open.
Still very good and easily recommended for people that liked the first one, but it's mostly just more of that while also being both less and now familiar.

This and the Blind Forest are some of the games in my collection that have made the biggest impressions on me. Very few games have moved, and made me feel things, in a positive way like Ori has.
I often leave the game feeling deeply touched and feeling empowered. The story of Ori addresses deep symbolic aspects of the rough nature of the human condition and the world. As well as giving you a healthy narrative of hope to accept it and rise above it.
Not that they are trying, but I wish more developers were able to, or would put more of their hearts into their games like the dev team of Ori has. To rise their work to a new order of class. To indirectly have it be a tool that can help properly better the world through the power of music, story and art
I hardly write or share comments and reviews like this. I'm not one to be very public about anything. So writing this is a big deal for me. Both stories (games) of Ori are wonderful master pieces that I hold with high regard. And they have earned it from me to share.

The storytelling is very emotional and engaging. There are many friendly non-player characters added to the game. The players can interact with those characters and listen to their stories. This feature makes the game world a livelier place.
Apart from the addition of boss fights, there are new challenges with high replay value in the game, such as combat shrines and spirit trials. The players can try their combat skills against waves of enemies by activating combat shrines or race against time by starting spirit trials.
The game includes abilities from the previous game as well as new ones. Besides the passive ones, the players are allowed to have only three abilities active at a time. However, they can customize their gameplay by switching between abilities throughout the game, even during combat.
The hand-painted artwork and great soundtracks are the most admirable aspects of the game. These aspects create a beautiful environment and a magical atmosphere within the game.
The game offers a decent challenge and a relaxing gaming experience at the same time. It is highly recommended for the players who enjoy cute, emotional and atmospheric games. Playing the first game before getting into this one would make the story more impressive.

TL;DR:
Rant. Rant. The game feels like Hollow Knight dressed as Ori. It's an OK game, but not a good sequel either in regards of mechanics or story.
Atmosphere and aesthetics:
- Let's face it, these are defining components in the Ori games. I personally admit buying the first game because I came across its OST while listening music on YouTube, and I just got THAT hooked on the pure awesomeness of the music (the only other game I purchased for the same reason was Nier:Automata, and no I did not regret any of these decisions).
And to jump to the problems: the music in Ori and the Will of the Wisps jus wasn't appealing. Great ambient music, but lacked the impact of the first game, felt generic. Even the recycled melodies from the previous installment felt meh.
- With the graphics, I had a similar feeling, the old designs carried over looked great, but most of the new enemies for example felt off. I has been years since I have played the first game, so I can't tell exactly, but the new models did not fit the hand-drawn visual style of the environment.
But what's worse, many graphic designs just felt like things were changed for the sake of changing it... I can't say it any better. I mean, what was the point of changing the light of the soultree from blue to yellow? It sure looks awful. Like, really awful...
- And the last one, the NPCs. I include them here, because they effect the gameplay less than the atmosphere. The first game was mostly about Sein talking, with some rare interactions with dead spirits and the absolute minimal number of alive NPCs, all of them critical to the story. This was completely overturned, as random interactable NPCs litter the whole forest of Niwen, the player never really feals to struggle alone. The narrative is splintered, interactions are often absolutely pointless and the inclusion of side-quests just make them even worse (especially considering the minimal compensation).
Only good side quest was the father looking for his family. When the player finds the stone bodies of the mother and child and tells the father, he leaves the area and will turn to stone next to them. A really impactful and small element the player is not likely to notice, unless keenly aware. I wish other quests worked like that, but sadly they do not.
Gameplay:
- There is a set of new movement skills in the game, which allow for even greater freedom of movement, but their control scheme is just awful. Both true for the lasso and the digging dash (or really any aimed skill), that aiming them can cause more frustration than joy. Speaking about mouse and keyboard controls, the aim is truly deceiving, as it is sometimes but not always towards the mouse pointer and what's worse, not at the mouse pointer but just at it's direction. Fighting multiple enemies at once or being near multiple similarly interactable objects can randomize the result. The player can try to catch an incoming projectile just to grab a dangerous enemy instead taking damage for both, or can try to flee just to jump into the fray instead... I recognize this as a moderately well though out conversion of controller controls, but still...
- The most fun parts of the first game were the chase sequences. Well, here they are gone... not really, but almost. They are shorter, much less dramatic and bring more frustration than challenge. Originally they could be done on the first try just by quick thinking and situational awareness, well, not anymore. While in the first game there was a clear way through the obstacles, here there are often multiple footholds offered, but if the player decides to make the jump a bit longer or shorter than the lenght intended by the developers, it could mean the loss of the round. Floors crumbling as soon the player almost lands on them becomes a thing, or just the boss catching up randomly if a wrong location is chosen for no apparent reason. It's trial and error finding out which plant to hook, which platform to land on, etc, while much less emphasis is placed on the precise execution.
- But instead of chases, we have boss fights. And God why? The player has to fight several of these bosses, really meaningless large creatures we barely get to know (main one included) and we are thrown into an arena to bash them until they move. Yes, I played this game on Hard (I played the first one on the same difficulty as well) and as far as I know, the bosses are more reasonable on lower difficulties (not easier, just more reasonable, and I'll explain what I mean) so take my complaint as such. The bosses have MASSIVE health pools. And they are just that, sponges. Incredible variety of spam attacks combined with small windows for damaging them, while retaliation is almost certain retaliation. They are still not hard though, there is always a skill setup (heal+meele+utility and energy rec.+conversion) that makes them relatively easy (yet still time consuming) to defeat. It just feels like abusing the game mechanics, while I'm fairly certain that's how they were ment to be defeated.
There is no terrain awarness or creativity involved, as the arenas are absolutely empty and bland. These are just lame attrition battles with some trial and error to learn the attack patterns and sudden terrain changes.
And loosign all footing in the final battle along with enemy attacks becoming unavoidable? Who the hell came up with that?
Ok, this was much more of a rant than I intended it to be. I have played Hollow Knight a year ago, and I'd say this game had many similar features, but not all for the best. They should have stayed closer to the original design.
I'm not sure the first game was ever in need of a continuation, but this definitely wasn't the sequel I was expecting.
It's OK to go to a different forest, as it's narratively not really feasible, that trouble comes to Nibel again, but then to close the story by binding the characters to Niwen? Really? The game is almost twice as long, yet we aren't learning really anything substancial about the new place. The characters keep going for almost made up reasons then get stuck there for life. I mean, this probably was meant to be an irrevocable closure of the story, but felt absolutely rushed and completely unwarranted. This is becoming a rant again, so I'm not continuing...
If this was the first game, I might would not consider playing the sequel. (Kinda like with Hollow Knight). Generally it was a ok-goodish game, but compared to the expectations, brought mostly disappointment.

Where to start..
Ori and the will of the wisps is the second Ori game, after Ori and the blind forest and therefore adds to the ending of the first game. It continues pretty much exactly where the first game left of, so it's adviced to play through the first game before picking up this one, or at least watching a playthrough of it, if you want to be fully invested into the story and characters.
Although, by the way they handle cutscenes, it might be possible to invest yourself into the characters, regardless of knowing the first game or not.
Which brings me to the first point of this review, the story.
Man did I love the story, it feels like you're going through a beautifuly crafted fairytale and even more so than in the first game, your character is really in the midst of it all. The game has a beautiful way of telling it's story and for that alone it's worth to be played in my opinion.
Gameplay wise the game also felt great. Insanely smooth. The controlls are on point and reactive in any way imaginable. You get so many different abilities and options, that any place can be reached with a variety of different skills, which makes progression really fluent. Since the map is pretty open early on, you can chose where to go yourself and only backtrack to older locations once you found abilities to help you progress through the area. Pretty much every area teaches you a ability and as said before, each of them can be used in different ways.
You can also equip a bunch of passive skills, something that is, unless I remember wrong, not something that you were able to do in the first Ori, but it feels nice to just have that extra edge to your character.
Visually.. I don't think I need to say much. The game is stunning. Beautiful scenery, beautiful characters, the music is amazing as well. The whole game is honestly just.. beautiful.
If I had to pinpoint something, that I didn't like about the game, it would be that sometimes it felt like there was a spike in difficulty. Never something that would be unbeatable, but I often found myself getting stuck in seemingly random locations for random reasons. Some of the plattforming can get pretty tricky later on, but after a few tries should be managed. I've often overlooked the solution to a puzzle as well, but that's probably on me.
In the end, Ori and the will of the wisps is an even better Ori and the blind forest. A strong sequel to an already strong prequel. The two go hand in hand with each other, just having this game improved in so many ways and strenghend with a lot of depht in all aspects.
It's absolutely worth to be played, I encourage everyone who is a fan of beautifuly crafted stories, plattformers or metroidvanias to play this game.

For anyone who played Ori and the Blind Forest, you'll probably love this one too! But just in case, here is what changed / was expanded upon:
- It's roughly twice as long (100% completion on hard without hardcore achievements like one life)
- It has all the original movement abilities and multiple new ones, which lets you zip through the air more than ever before. :) And that becomes necessary too in many sections
- There is much higher focus on different combat abilities: Fast melee, heavy melee, fast ranged, heavy ranged, and they're all viable to play too! This is the biggest change, so if you absolutely dislike platformer combat, check out some gameplay videos first. No, it's not as difficult as Hollow Knight!
- Another big change: no more manual saving (!) That really took getting used to, but the autosaves are very frequent, so you never lose considerable progress, no worries. Also, there are multiple autosaves, so you shouldn't be able to softlock your save.
- There are escape sequences again, one of which is far more difficult than any in Blind Forest but has been supposedly toned down a bit since a day before writing this review
- There are now bossfights alongside the escape sequences (but they're not awful, you don't get oneshot or anything)
- Spirit light is now a currency and you can use it to buy upgrades (basically like before), get new combat abilities, and upgrade your upgrades+abilities. No, you will never get stuck if you skip everything, the progress-required abilities are all free
- There are now collectibles which you can equip to give you some passive effects (risk-reward combat effects, upgrades to your ranged abilities, movement abilities etc.)
- There are also collectibles to make your haven prettier, the place where you can buy stuff
- There are multiple optional quests which reward you with equippable upgrades or spirit light to buy stuff
- There is a way to see all secrets on the map by the near end of the game, which is great for anyone who wants to 100% without an external map (like me)
Highly recommended, one of my favorite platformers :)
