In der staubigen Einöde von West-Mudos bedrängen streitlustige Banditen schlechtgelaunte Siedler. Plötzlich taucht Stranger auf, ein mysteriöser Kopfgeldjäger, dessen Ziel es ist, Bösewichte und Störenfriede einzufangen, um sie in den zivilisierten Städten ins Gefängnis zu bringen.

Um es kurz zu machen, Story ist wirklich nicht schlecht, zwar irgendwo vorhersehbar aber naja.
Auch das Gameplay ist wirklich nicht schlecht. Macht Spaß auch mit den vielen verschiedenen Munitionsarten und den daraus resultierenden Möglichkeiten.
Die Grafik in der HD Version ist nicht schlecht. Sieht gut aus, hier und da macht es die Beleuchtung wet aber im großen und ganzen auch eine angenehme Atmosphäre.

Aber ich habe das dämliche Spiel jetzt abgebrochen.
Warum?
Ich wollte auf EINFACH spielen, im Laufe ist mir aber immer wieder aufgefallen, wie schwer doch die Bosskämpfe sind, obwohl das Einfach sein soll.
Gut beißen wir uns durch. Aber bei den letzten Missionen muss man aus einer Festung sprinten während ein Timer abläuft. Im Endeffekt muss man wirklich versuchen kontinuierlich zu rennen um die Zeit zu schaffen, nur in der vermeintlichen Mitte der Strecke kann man sich nochmal kurz eine 3 Sekunden Pause gönnen.
Soweit das Leveldesign verstanden.

Allerdings sind natürlich auch überall Gegner, das Problem ist, dass die Gegner verdammt gut schießen können für EINFACH. Soweit erstmal nicht schlimm, aber wenn ich dann keine Chance gegen die beschissenen Sniper habe, ich Hacken schlage aber, weil die eine 100% Genauigkeit haben, ich immer wieder abgeschossen werde, vergeht mir dann auch der Spaß.

Es gibt einen ganz üblen Bug bei den Schwierigkeitsgraden, der sogar bei der Archievementvergabe vorhanden ist.
Patch? Gibt es nicht.

Daher kann ich das Spiel empfehlen, wenn man es auf Normal spielt, wenn man es eigentlich nur als kleinen Happen auf Einfach spielen will sollte man wahrscheinlich eher Schwer auswählen.

Ich jedenfalls werde das Spiel jetzt in die virtuelle Tonne hauen. Ich habe keinen Bock das Spiel nochmal neu anzufangen nur weil der Entwickler zu dämlich ist den Parameter des Schwierigkeitsgrades richtig zu übergeben.

Mal eine andere art von Shooter.
Mit einer spannenden Story und einem finde ich ausgewogenen schwierigkeitsgrad, , man schießt mit insekten und kleinen Tieren auf seine gegner, z.b. kann man seine Gegner mit spinnen in Netze einhüllen.

As a kid this was a forbidden game for some reason my mother never explained to me why but now, as an adult who finally got it to work on my pc. It is sweet holy bliss. Just be sure to have v-sync turned on so it doesn't act goody.

This game was a lot better than I was expecting. It started off feeling a little jank, and my ui was still showing keyboard controls, depsite working on controller. It was weird. Anyway, once I got used to some of the initial jank (of which was never really bad btw), it started to flow really well. The combat scenarios are set up pretty well for this type of game, as well. The OST wasn't really that memorable, but the characters, setting, and voice acting were great! It also has a turning point that I wasn't really expecting, but was very happy that they added. Overall, this game was great, and was very nostalgic to play again. I never beat it as a kid, and I can't believe I never did lol buy it on sale

One of the most underrated xbox game, I am glad to play it again on PC even though it lacks some settings.
It has a really fun FPS gameplay, and you have different ways to play with the differents types of ammo the game gives you.
The visuals still holds up today.
Also the western atmoshpere is pretty cool.

Definitely get the game!

wanted to play this game since i played it a ton on the original xbox but after trying to fix the screen resolution being the wrong size and not being able to see the game for 20 minutes i am still unable to play

I didn't play long enough to give it a rating.
MAN! I really wanted to play this game! I really wanted to like it. But the inability to remap controls (and frankly the horrible default controls) make this game close to unplayable for me. Everything that I saw in this game made me excited to play it, but the ill controls ruined it for me. I hope the day comes that the Oddworld people reboot this game so that I get a chance to experience it. Hats off to the numerous people that played through this game w/o caring about the controls. Many of them game this game a huge thumbs up...I wish I could be you.

Standalone from the rest of the Oddworld series, you can play this without having played any of the other games from the series. Completely unique weapons, crazy characters, a great story line and hilarious dialogue make this a must play. It's like a cross between Read Dead Redemption and Luigi's Mansion.

Stranger's Wrath holds a very special place in my heart, from me playing it for the first time on my dad's Xbox, to me eagerly awaiting some form of remake for it after SoulStorm. Regardless of my preference, the game runs incredibly well for what it is. A 3rd and 1st person shooter, I'd say that it's really worth the price it's at. I could easily see it run for 30 dollars on here and it'd still be worth the purchase. Overall I give this 8.5 out of 10, it's got some minor kinks, but they are nothing that can't be ignored

majority of the reviews will say something along the lines of nostalgia and they aren't wrong with how old this game is. i personally played this game back on the OG Xbox 15 years ago, yea it's been awhile. but enough about that lets get down to the main topic, should you buy the game? well if you like a good story and some classic action, then sure go ahead. but be warned this is one of them play it, beat it and throw it games. unless your someone who has to 100% every game they get then yea it's got replayability. if not? then prepare to uninstall after you beat it.

every mechanic in this game strengthens it and the end result is a tactical and immersive shooter unlike anything before or since the graphics can be dated but the art direction makes each area look unique (though not sub areas) and with a clear feeling you feel like a real tough bounty hunter and it's a great feeling

An awesome classic with gameplay mechanics that keeps the game fresh and unique from other games. heads up though, if you do plan to play this you can play with a controller, but the button and stick layout will not be set up correctly. but you can configure the control scheme and there are guides on how to do so in the community hub. really solid after the controls are set up.

Was an excellent experience in the Universe of Oddworld. Very nice story and while the missions can become redundant (run to mission site - kill a lot of mobs - kill boss - rinse repeat), i was always looking forward to the cutscenes which were well done, on par with Abe's. However, the slingshot mechanics are quite appealing and the amount of combos and playstyles possible is a strong argument for this game. Overall very recommended and it can be challenging if you're looking to catch all your bounties alive.

I'm a big fan of Oddworld games and Stranger's Wrath is a very good game. I really enjoy the style of the gameplay that, although it's not original, it's very funny and versatile. The only part of the game I didn't like is the second half of the game, except for the final chapter that is very cool.
The music is enjoyable, the story is appealing and the little lore of the Oddworld world is interesting. It's not the best game of the Oddworld series but it's pretty good.
I recommend you to play this game, as well as the other games of the Oddworld series.

Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD makes itself worthy of its franchise with highly atmospheric sceneries and a compelling plot filled with odd creatures. Despite not being a 2D sidescroller and not featuring Mudokons, it does a good job not to distance itself too much from the Oddworld universe. There are a few questionable boss battles, but overall, it's a great game with some neat concepts to check out.

Honestly one of my favorite games. I got the original version on the OG Xbox from a friend and instantly fell in love with it, despite being indifferent to the rest of the Oddworld games. I always loved this untouched and niche genre of bounty hunting games ever since I got Star Wars Bounty Hunter. I wish they did more with this game, because it lends so much to world building and the Oddworld itself outside of Abe's games. It's so gritty and weird while being humorous and entertaining.

The approach to combat can be varied from a full frontal assault, or luring out enemies one by one and picking them off non-lethally for maximum profit. The ammo types are few but enough to keep things from getting boring because each type of ammo (little creatures you hunt and use as ammo because the Stranger doesn't like guns) all have a specific role, and being able to load 2 different ammo types at a time allows you to combine their effects against most enemies, such as the Zappfly + Thudslug to stunlock most bosses, or the Chippunk + Bolamite to capture enemies quickly and quietly.

The world is surprisingly huge with moderate free-roaming in sectioned off areas. The further the game goes on the more the maps start to open up, some allowing multiple approaches to enemy camps or a wider variety of side missions. There is also a variety of areas, from the woods and mountains, to industrial factories and snowy villages.

The story is fairly compelling with a good twist near the end. It comes to a satisfying conclusion that alludes to possible future installments that we've yet to see. Maybe if enough people praise this game, we'll get another installment after this next Oddworld game that comes out for next gen.

tl;dr - It's a good game with a large amount of content and length, good story and weird humor, and just an overall fun experience from beginning to end. Couldn't recommend it more even though I'm not the best at writing reviews. I just wanted to give this game the love it deserves. 9/10.

The story continues with this outstanding and thrilling look into the Oddworld universe!

Stepping up the explosions and overall action such as battles and gun fights, you will find that Stranger's Wrath is a awesome take of a Red Dead like experience within this storyline.

Graphically, this is a mild step up from Munch's and is not to be turned down considering it's age.

Sound engine is ideal and can be comical at points though not immersion breaking.

Pricing is a touch on the higher side given the age but is nothing to turn your nose up at.

Get this on sale or look into the Oddboxx!

Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath is in my opinion an incredibly underrated gem from the mid 2000s. I bought the Steam version last year and have been playing it on and off in my spare time. Gameplay wise it's got it all, smooth platforming, fun gun play, a currency system, upgrades for both you and your weapons and so much more. In total I've done 2 playthroughs, 1 on Easy mode and 1 on Hard mode so I could grab all the achievements. The game does offer a lot of challenge mid to late game for newcomers but my hard mode run felt 10 times easier than my easy mode run. The game's level structure is quite simple, you go to one of the hub cities, pick the criminal you want to go after, you do a ton of platforming, defeat the bad guy's minions, you face off against the boss and you either bring em back dead or alive to get paid. This formula works so well and you really feel like a fearless bounty hunter throughout the game until the story takes a turn. Now I don't want to spoil why BUT you're only truly a bounty hunter throughout 60-70% of the game. Once you get through the bounty hunter section that's when the game unfortunately starts to go down hill. Gameplay wise it's the exact same but it doesn't feel like you're playing the same game anymore. I don't wanna go into spoiler territory so I'll let you find out for yourself what happens story wise. Overall it's a solid 7/10 game and if I was only judging the game by the first half it's a 10/10 game.

Game has really bad controls, doesn't matter if you use keyboard and mouse or Logitech controller. I have try to reassign keys and don't helps, also character gets stuck even clicking the movement keys and sometimes have to use jump key to get out of it but don't work all the time. i even try looking at all the online guides to fix this but still don't help at all. either way this is a bad port of a game and if it was not for that then it would have been a good game to play.

Note if you plan to try this game wait till it's on sale on steam
I got it back at the time it was on sale for $2.49

I love this one. One of my favorite games for the original Xbox. The upgraded graphics look good and it's just as fun as I remember. Only thing to keep in mind is that if you plan to play with a controller (I use an Xbox One controller) you are going to need to do some SERIOUS button remapping. The default setup is jacked up. Luckily, fans on Steam have already published their own mappings that fix the issue.

Great game one of my childhood favs, still holds up today. Only big complaint is the audio but the game creators had to compress it at the time due to the size of the game.

He's strange and filled with Wrath. This is an action game unlike the traditional Oddworld games. Probably explains why it's the only one I enjoyed.

This Game is One of my top 5 for being fun and awesome to play, I love the gameplay and No matter what i even try it on both normal and hard mode, stressful but it wont stop me from loving this game, from the HD Graphics of the models to the environment. It really makes a change as the last time i've played this was on xbox.
The Soundtrack in the game is fantastic

Stranger's Wrath is DISGUSTINGLY underappreciated. It's easily one of the best shooters of the mid-2000s, right up there with games like Resident Evil 4 and Half-Life 2. Can't recommend it enough.

However, this PC port is not very good. It was perfectly playable throughout, but there's various issues that are difficult to ignore. Here's all the noteworthy issues I personally encountered.

No native Xinput support, which is strange (no pun intended), and the default binds are even stranger (again, no pun intended). Shouldn't have to go through the trouble of looking up the original Xbox controls and rebinding the inputs to match them.
The framerate was fine 99% of the time, at least on my end, but some super heavy effects caused the framerate to drop. While these drops shouldn't happen on modern hardware, they're brief enough to ignore.
Subtitles are awful. There's far more typos than there should be, and the subtitles themselves often progress significantly faster than the actual dialogue.
Audio is kinda buggy. A few voice lines are missing (subtitles make it obvious), and the volume of certain sounds/voices is either too quiet or too loud.
One cutscene bugged out and replayed from the start. Not too crazy, but odd nonetheless (okay, this one is an intentional pun).
For no reason whatsoever, the game would randomly open the ammo menu. Though it happened rarely, it was still obnoxious.

The Stranger won't play by your rules, pardner.

A fascinating little game that actively refuses to be pinned down. It's a third-person FPS, but not really, because you are usually shooting tools rather than bullets. It's a personal story of a bounty hunter who's only in it for the money, except when it absolutely isn't. It's a methodical game of eliminating enemies with stealth and cunning – whenever it doesn't happen to be a game about massive explosions. Not even the tutorial seems to grasp quite what this is. Odd, but sort of brilliant at the same time.
