Akademie
Open World

I see people complaining that this isn't a sandbox - but when playing it is obvious why not, the scope would be ridiculous. For example there is a satellite vision tool, when given coordinates you can view an area. If this was a sandbox they'd need imagery for the entire earth. Instead you wait till you get coordinates which are obviously to be used with this tool. Same thing goes for the other tools. Considering the how many machines you connect to it would be impractical to have every tool function realistically, and would probably lead to a lot more frustrating dead ends. The linear approach the developers have taken keeps you focused and engaged.
I hope they get back to work on The Black Watchmen, as I'd like to try that next - but many people are saying it is dead.

I don't think this is a bad game, but I think I went into it with the wrong expectations. I was very excited as I played through the initial academy missions. I couldn't wait for the game to start opening up and let me start applying everything that I'd learnt, but sadly it did not pan out that way.
This is not a puzzle game, it's a linear adventure game. There's nothing wrong with that, but you should know that going in otherwise you'll end up being disappointed.
Every situation has basically one solution. Tools that would make perfect sense to use in certain situations yield no results because it doesn't follow the single thread of linear logic that the devs had in mind.
I would have upvoted this if I enjoyed the story, but sadly I just don't find it very believable. In the training academy your instructors treat you like you are some incredible recruit that is surpassing all previous recruits. They do this despite the fact that this is meant to be a highly elite military academy and despite the fact that all you're doing is literally following their every instruction word for word, almost no initiative is required on your part.
Once you finish the academy, it's basically just more of the same. I think this could have been an incredible puzzle game, but it feels like a missed opportunity.

At first it looked promising, but I quickly realised it wasn’t the game I'm after. Unlike Uplink and Hacknet, where there is a sense of jeopardy, and occasionally even paranoia, surrounding your every action, I failed to feel it playing NITE Team. I felt completely removed from what was going on in game.
I feel a big reason for this is the UI. It feels gamey, it does not make me feel like a part of the world. The fact that you need to open a special window for each different console command makes it really unwieldy at the same time.
Then there’s the voice acting, the characters don’t (to me) sound like they are who they are meant to be. They’re meant to be military personnel but from the beginning they sound all buddy buddy and It doesn’t sound very convincing to me. I also find it annoying that I cant do anything when a character is talking to me. And really, why does the game need voice actors? I feel like it would make more sense for the mission info to arrive in an email or something instead.
I’m sure the game might appeal to some people, but for those of you after a tense hacking simulation in the vein of Uplink, you may be disappointed.
To those of you that do pick it up. Follow the tutorials. Even when the game tells you you’ve done enough to start mission one, do all the rest of them. There are a number of concepts you will encounter in the first mission that are not explained anywhere else.

At first it looks cool, lots of real stuff. Most technologies in this game actually work this way, but at a much more complicated level. When I went through the tutorials, I was really into this game. The way you do things, although simplified, feels just right. Like if I'm a hacker, I'd be doing these things, and that contributes a lot to the immersion.
But a few hours later, when really get to work on a few missions, I found them mostly the same. Well the story itself is decent enough to keep me going. But the thing you really do, is to repeat the tutorial steps again and again. Not really much creative thinking, just try every method, every port, every tool, every command. You have no clue which one will work, and sometimes that's pretty unrealistic. Like there is a tool to search social network for email addresses in some corporation and send them fake mails to steal information. But if that's not the correct solution, you won't get any result. You can't even send a mail, despite in previous missions you may already get to know a few addresses.
I did play most games by this dev, by far I'd say I still like The Black Watchmen the most. More interesting puzzle design, more variety, and always make you think out of the box. This one is just trial and error, rinse and repeat. Not bad, not great either. I stopped playing when I find I have to buy the DLC to continue the main story.

This game is by and large a puzzle game wrapped in a hacking skin. It uses the tools and nomenclature familiar to those who are either in the computer security field or those who take an interest in it. The missions are structured in a way that force you to sometimes think outside the box in order to resolve (which I enjoy as an autodidact).
Highly recommend this game for anyone who enjoys a good conundrum and isn't afraid to dive into the world of cybersecurity (simplified for gamification, of course)

But by the time you get to Operation: Royal Gate the writing deteriorates.
Puzzles become less and less logical, and start to rely on bruteforcing every option.
Characters grab massive idiot balls and run with them.
Fake difficulty in terms of interface screw compounds the problem, as it persists outside of main storyline, so if you are stuck there, you are stuck with it in side missions too.
Compared to that, interface quirks are small annoyances.
Hivemind feature that lets players create challenges for each other sounds good on paper, but is incredibly limited in execution, compared to the base game.
So all in all, it's a quite disappointing end that followed a glorious beginning.

- Interface: it's extremely clunky, everything is functional but you have whole screens you have to pull up that only accept one or two commands. This isn't very realistic and it would have been nice to see a terminal style window that would accept a wider range of commands.
-Information: there are pieces of information that have to be remembered between missions. Took a break between missions? Too bad! Server names and other information that are required cross missions should be given to you in a notepad or something but there not. This forces you to have to Google information which seems a bit silly.
-Minor details: I'm being picky here on this one but there are a few minor details that seemed to have been overlooked. One example being, how you're still able to be connected to a server that you
blew up with a drone
-Price: finally the price, a lot of these could be overlooked if the price was right. Lucky for me I picked this game up on sale for a deep discount. However at the time of this post this is a $35 game and there just isn't $35 worth of value here.

tl;dr at the bottom
Pros: Great tutorial, and please, do it if you don't want to get absolutely overwhelmed by the game's interface. Even though there's is a lot of intuitive buttons and commands, it may get very confusing. DO THE TUTORIAL. ALL OF IT. The game has a bunch of console commands inputs, but a lot of the most boring tasks, like password brute-force attacks, are done with buttons in a UI so it's intuitive and not boring. The story is great and very intriguing, fairly linear but it serves the narrative pretty well. The dialogue is pretty good and the voice acting is so, so well done it puts a lot of AAA games to shame.
2 cons for me: first, even though the story was great, the ending was very underwhelming for me, with a lot not being explained or clear. Maybe the DLC expands it or the lore in the other Alice & Smith's games explains it.
Talking about the the other A&S games like The Black Watchmen series, which are packed full of ARG elements, this has basically none. Well, at least the Main Mission doesn't. But, and this brings me to my second con, it's that there is a very ARG-like puzzle on the 2nd Chapter in the main mission. Not my cup of tea, but it was doable to a certain extend, but I had to google a few things out of the game and in one of the sections of the puzzle I just had to check a guide because I really couldn't figure it out. It kinda killed the pace for me for an hour, but you can just skip it with a guide if you want.
The main campaign took me around 10 hours to finish, so the full price is very fair, but during a sale its a must-have.
There's also bounties and online multiplayer (beta) but I didn't played it yet, so I can't comment on that.
tl;dr with the exception of the ending and one puzzle (really subjective), this game is incredibly good. If you like hacker games, buy this.

At its core it's very similar to other hacking games, I think hacknet seems the most similar. The devs put a lot of effort into the game, requiring from the player to think out of the box from time to time. Bonus points for real life references to software, exploits, backdoors and all kind of terms, even though a lot of aspects were overly simplified for the game process and obviously no real tools are used in any of that.
The game has met my expectations about being a decent hacknet-like game, with enough of content to explore. I can recommend NITE to people that are into games like that, as clearly it's one of the best ones in its own category. Depending on your skills and interest, it can bring you at least a solid dozen of hours to put into.

It takes some time and lot's of (necessary) hand-holding to learn about all of your tools. However, once you start with the real missions, your objectives become less and less step-by-step instructions and more general, at which point it's up to you to sift through various entry points, trying to infiltrate your target.
My biggest praise and complaint goes to the sheer versatility of your tools. For example, you start most of your missions analyzing your target website's subdomains to look for entry points. It took me hours to realize (i.e. look up) that the program I'm using has several ways to find subdomains, branch off these subdomains and dig even deeper towards the target's internal server. Being able to explore all these different attack vectors is usually very fun but it can quickly become frustrating when there is only one specific way to proceed which you have never used and the game only vaguely hinted at.
Overall I'm absolutely baffled that this game only costs ~30€. Had it cost more, I would have happily paid the price.

While all of this sounds complex, and in many ways it is, NITE Team 4 does an excellent job of easing you into the way these features work and detailing what you can do with them, your handlers providing voice-over guidance along the way. Even the text-based nature of most of these tools is easier to manage than you might expect.
There are a total of four operations divided into multiple chapters, with multiple objectives or missions within each chapter. The academy and story mode missions alone provide over 25 hours of combined content.
NITE Team 4 succeeds at creating a hacking simulator that puts the player in the cyber-warfare hotseat. The story is interesting. The complex gameplay can be a handful but the experience never feels overwhelming, rewarding players with the satisfying sense of being an elite hacker.
THE GOOD
- Good storyline
- Good variety of missions and tasks
- Very good tutorial
- Realistic hacking
THE BAD
- Some features lack clear purpose
- Won't appeal to everyone
8/10

New content was regularly added for a while, the open world challenges were terrific fun. However there's been a lot of quiet lately when it comes to new content.
The Bad:
Do be warned, this is marketed as a multiplayer game. There is almost no conceivable way you would have a better gaming experience if you played this with someone else, and at no point are you given an opportunity for that to play any part in the story or be relevant. It's a tacked on feature that means nothing and even carries a warning that you could break your game if you use it.
That said, for some other unknown reason this game requires you to be online. For what is in all honesty a single player game, that can store all resources locally, this is ridiculous. On more than one occasion servers were unavailable, so the game was not able to be played. A&S isn't a fly-by-night operation, but there's no guarantee they'll be around 5 years from now. So you'll only be leasing this game for as long as they deign to allow you to play it. If you're privacy minded, the servers the game calls back to are often associated with data-mining, all were blocked by my DNS filtering forcing me to whitelist them so I could play this game. Even when everything is working fine I'll often have long delays on starting the game where simple small size images take seconds or minutes to transfer from an online source. You'll be unable to click on GUI items while this wait is happening. Other images will remain white-tile placeholders in the middle of the game because they never loaded. This has only gotten worse in the year since release.

it could just be more thorough as of requiring proof that a person A did really commit act B. Too often some kind of data corelation is enough for taking action against an individual. It probably happens in real life as well, but it shouldn't. Agents shouldnt fall for the first and most simple explanation.

I enjoyed my time for the most part but to me it does not feel like a fully fleshed out product with little replayability at the moment.
the campaign (excluding the dlc) is the only mode that feels like it has been fully developed and tested.
Worth it at 75% off (50% max if you REALLY want to play it).
UI
Command Input manipulation is very limited. You can only auto complete the last part of the command you are entering.
eg. If you want to change a scan command from bing source to google source while keeping the rest you either have to start at the end and scroll, using arrow keys, over to to the relevent part and manually replacing it by deleting and re-typing or doing the command over from scratch.
Training Missions/Tutorial
Good missions but throws new information at you each mission without giving time to process and get comfortable with information from the previous mission(s) while needing to use said from previous mission(s) to do the current one.
You can replay them but a tutorial is supposed to teach what you need first time.
They also do not provide information for things outside the campaign (eg hivemind, goliath, new software, etc)
Main Story/Missions
Enjoyed it. Ran into a couple of bugs where files weren't being put into localhost and changing filters on the sat feed (eg comm towers) that require a restart to fix. Restarting does not save progress and it only saves at the start and end of missions so you can potentially lose alot of progress.
These missions feel the most flushed out.
Open World Missions
These missions are not simple and require real life detective work (eg searching on google). Found these frustrating, for me turning a good experience to an average experience, as the answers you need to provide to complete the mission are VERY specific and if you are a letter (or space/case) out it won't work and you will have no idea how close you actually are which leads to a massive goose chase to try and find the answer.
Does not feel flushed out.
Hivemind
User generated content. to be able to create this content you need to get the network administrator (NA) dlc which costs more than the game (rounded to nearest £5 - game £30, NA dlc £45)
this mode tasks you with accessing the trade outpost. the reward for doing so is related to system that has no purpose (see below) so this mode is basically for challenge only.
very challenging. only successfully gotten in to 2 outposts. one network warns you need extra software to do it and found I got repeatably stuck without a way to progress despite exhausting software/tool options.
found these frustrating and noticed useful info not always provided.
eg aircrack for mobiles but no information on which is the right one so need to check each one.
missions do not feel flushed out but then they are user generated.
Bounties
Like the idea but VERY buggy.
all missions are on a timer which personally i do not like as I like to relax and take my time.
Answers have to be character and case perfect (including spaces) to complete them.
You can hack a node but it won't show up in the C2 registry. restart does not fix.
system will reject correct answer. restart will fix but progress will be lost so will need to redo mission.
declined bounties will show up in later refreshes. bugs included.
Involves a system that has no purpose (see below)
Systems with no purpose
bounties give agency standing and general gameplay seems to gives points for buying intel items in hivemind network. agency standing does not do anything and intel items, which at first glance, look like they give you new software do not as they just sit in your localhost doing nothing. the game does not explain these systems.
Software
being a hacking game you would expect new software as you play. it does do this but they are on specific main story missions and are shortlived.
outside the main campaign (which you get in the main campaign) you have ONE other rootkit you can use which is in the last step of each hivemind network; which is connecting to trade outpost so you can login in and access it. as mentioned above it seems most non-campaign missions require new software however the game does not explain this system.
goliath
this system is supposed to give you clusters to augment your stingerOS (speed up scanning speed or hacking speed etc)
