Positive suprise.

5 hours went by in a rush.
I had some troubles here and there, but overall the game is fun and challangeing.

Theres lots of different worlds out there. My favorite are the magma ones... if your not carefull ... you can get swallowed by an magma expansion...

And boom goes your drone. And you need to send out a new one.
I managed to survive once , with only 2 coolers running on 100%. And just exploded half of my drone ... when i got suprised.

I haven't gotten to the automation part, but so far its nice.

This is an amazing game, and has so much potential, but hasn't had an update in almost 2 years. This wouldn't be a problem if the game was mostly complete but it is mostly still barebones with entire tabs of items in sandbox only having 4 or even 3 items and the main story apparently has an ending but just feels like it is just randomly generated.

I really like this game, the building system is fun and intuitive while still allowing for complexity, great game mechanics, I like the art style, and it overall is just a solid game. As a space roguelike, it did give me Faster then Light vibes minus the ship combat, and I really recommend it despite its flaws.

There are a few things holding the game back in my opinion:
Campaign too easy. I won on my first run, and halfway through I had a drone build that I didn't need to change for the rest of the game. Although in the first half it was quite fun iterating drones to fix issues I encountered when doing missions.
Only has a few music tracks.
Missions/Levels/Events are repetitive and too few.

The biggest disappointment was that there are no enemies like the player, as in they are not made of physic-simulated parts you can shoot off and such, but rather they are singular entities. Also a lack of space battles was a disappointment as well.

Despite this, I still do recommend the game.

the game incentives slow gameplay and hit and run tactics a lot. destroy an enemy or two and recharge. because if you don't: well you might lose a thruster and restart the last 10 minutes.
and this every mission. there isn't a good variaty in missions.

Building the drones is fun, the campaign however is boring simplistic and at times frustrating with a lot of trial and error
(in which you are punished for failing) you never really require anything big and due to the way missions work its is pointless to build specialized drones.

I could only recommend this to someone who likes to build stuff in creative mode... which i don't

this game is very missleading, i dont recommend it simply because i was expecting grandiose gameplay and all i got was a half baked campaign....
i figure all the fun is in creative mode, but i just dont enjoy it, because it feels pointless without an actual mission....
this game could of been the cusp of creativity if only the campaign could get the polish it deserves, maybe someday....

I picked up this game after trying out the drone creator and liking the various systems the game has on offer, and while it's a great game, I really just feel that it lacks content. After only 4 hours I was able to see every planet type and every mission type, leaving planets feeling same-ey and repetitive.

I really feel like possible just more variety in planet types, holding planet types back until certain points, or possibly adding rare unique features to see to make planets feel unique would all go a long way to making the game feel far more interesting to play in terms of the story mode.

Great engineering game, however I do feel mislead by the trailer since you won't get to build any large ships during the campaign. I beat the campaign (~10 hrs) using ships with 3-10 weapons, nothing like the trailers show, those are all made in creative mode I guess.

Very fun but I'm sad there isn't a need for big ships.

The main problem I have with this game is its control system ... gravity is generally towards the centre of the map (the planet) while the vehicle you build's orientation to that field changes rather rapidly. This isn't like the gradual or subtle gravity fields of games like Star Control, where it's easy to orient yourself to the field and your relative (often inverted) movement ... but here it's too sharp.

You will get stuck, jammed into the rock, a lot. Or find it impossible to escape as you've burrowed too deeply into the rock and now can't get out.

It has a fun video promoting it, but that doesn't reflect the moment to moment gameplay.

This is probably a game that gets really good later on, but the degree of how stingy they are with parts vital to being able to play when you start really removes the enjoyment. It's really hard to like a game when they just refuse to give you the tools you absolutely need to even play.

On top of which, if you're going to make a game where you have very little agency on getting the pieces you need, you can't dump a player with no health and basic pea-shooter guns into a warzone. Specially not when you increase the difficulty by 20% every time you attempt to play. Having over a 3000% difficulty is extremely unfair, and it's not a shock that it becomes unenjoyable.

This game has potential, but it's constantly thwarting itself with terrible game design choices, and as updates have stopped that'll never be fixed.

Logic parts are necessary for building anything interesting. But they'll make a drone vastly bulkier and more expensive, because all parts cost the same to deploy and for some reason a single logic gate is twice as big as most parts.
Even just optimising a drone's steering to use pivoting thruster blocks required 6 logic gates, which added a huge amount of bulk to what would be a neat, sleek design.

You can't build anything cool when you start the campaign, because you're given the bare minimum.
Also, for some reason the campaign rushes you along unnecessarily, it's pretty much the same exploration rules as FTL but very badly misapplied.

The gameplay loop is so boring that I wanted to stop after just a couple of missions that were only a few minutes long (almost all of my time played is in the editor), the missions you're given are very boring and also you're encouraged to spend ages mining since it's a roguelite, and one thing that's always true about roguelites is that if you don't get as many resources as possible early on you're gonna have compounding issues later on.

Feels pretty unique. While the 'survival mode' is reminiscent of FTL, gameplay is quite different since the focus is on building specialized drones to complete a variety of different mission types. And while you normally control the drone yourself in a way somewhat similar to Asteroids, it's also possible to play using automated drones that follow a set of predefined rules. Quite fascinating really.

The destructive terrain and the elemental weapon types also reminded me a bit of Noita. There appears to be a similar amount of stuff to try and experiment with.

The only negatives are that it's not always easy to figure out how ship components work or what they actually do. That, and random missions that are almost impossible to beat because you're missing some vital component, but that's rogue-like games for you.

From the videos and descriptions I was expecting an open universe where I could slowly build up drones and explore.

I was instead presented with FTL.

I've got FTL, I don't want FTL again. Drones mechanics good, game structure terrible.

I enjoyed my time with Nimbatus, even though it’s been made for people far more capable in design than I am. If you’re one of those elusive professional Minecraft architects or someone with a penchant for computing, Nimbatus as a tool is a real achievement you should invest in. Meanwhile, I’ll stick to watching The Malcontent Orb as it drifts slowly through the universe and slowly drifting, soulless and accursed, into the abyssal nothingness of pixelated space.

UPDATED REVIEW: Came back to the game to give it a final chance and turns out I had picked boring classes for me (researcher is the best, especially when starting out imo) AND I simply had terrible luck, my 2 first games player as the miner and getting NO resources in the planets I visited...

It's a decent game. Not as great as I had hoped. It's pretty short, but there is some fun to be had, so long as the game gives you a chance to get anything.

Went from a 4/10 to a 7/10 for me.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Old review:

Sadly disappointed with this game. Loved the building aspects when I saw the trailer, but the core gameplay loop is mostly just tedious and boring. Do simple tasks on similar planets, get random parts, repeat. That and luck really determines whether you get to continue or if it's game over.

Nice concept, decent execution overall, but I just can't get myself to enjoy it, and I tried.

Not recommended simply because you can be hours into the game and if you make a mistake and mess up and get the Nimbatus destroyed, that's it, you can't load a save, your playthrough is deleted and you have to start all over again.

Was more than enough reason for me to instantly uninstall.

Negative review because trying to program a bloody drone AI is hard enough as it is using only freakin logic gates, but when combined with the increase in size, weight and wobble, the fact that you can't test anything in TEST FLIGHT because it spawns a horde of enemies, is missing things you only find on planets, most of the sensors are either badly implemented, useless or complete garbage ... and logic gates don't even function as logic gates... for example, a XOR gate only functions if it's connected to both inputs... as in ... it has to receive !input1 and input2 ... if input1 is missing entirely, it doesn't work.

Drone programming in space engineers is less of a pain in the ass ... and that's saying a lot.

My first ten minutes involved trying and failing to figure out how to attach all the thrusters I needed without having my drone spin wildly in place. I dont see this game paying dividends on learning how the systems work. The graphics are a mixed affair, with some of the designs looking quite crisp and cartoon like, while others look like cheap flash animation with too-clean lines and simple geometric shapes.

I love the premise, but I dont think the tutorial does a great job of explaining how to design your drone. I wish it was more like Banjo Nuts and Bolts, where any old garbage you make still ends up working. This game has very clear definitions of what will fly, and what will just spin around in a circle before crashing. Not my cup of tea

Nimbatus, basically create drones to do things, with minigames aswell! With racing, sumo fighting, actual fightinng, and more! And for the main story, multiple classes, a decent tech tree, and unique missions! You can also customize your gameplay and practice and learn more about drones and how they work! You can get really complex with this game.

Have fun constructing!

This game is currently in the Humble Bundle for July 2021. If you are interested in the game and it's before August 3rd, 2021, consider picking up the game as part of the current monthly bundle.

This is a creative game where players can create and pilot drones to complete different tasks. Add in an FTL-style race across the galaxy and a series of missions where players will be tasked to do different things and you have a really interesting game.

The game starts with players having to create and try out different drones to complete various tasks, and there’s a lot of different ways players can build their drones, and a few ways that will break them apart, but there seems to be a lot of potential in the design aspects of the game.

But there’s also a threatening enemy that constantly will be chasing the player’s ship and trying to damage them, as well as a couple of resources that players will need to balance to pay for repairs and upgrades. There are also multiple starting classes, with unique loadouts, gear, and abilities. I’m particularly tempted to return to try out the programmer class which requires autonomous drones only, which the player can’t manually control.

Pick this up if you like the idea of creating drones and completing missions. It’ll help if you’re a fan of rogue-lites but might not be fully necessary. There is still a lot of replayability here. If you just want to skip the design phase you might have issues here as a big part of this game appears to be building your drone fleet for your current task and then piloting them.

If you enjoyed this review or want to know what I think of other games in the bundle, check out the full review on or subscribe to my youtube channel: https://youtu.be/UqdMreTnUns

This game is not at all what I expected. The store page makes it look like a fun engineering sim where you can gradually build up your drone library with better parts, and progress through a series of interesting challenges. Instead, it's actually a permadeath roguelike that deletes your save on death. The drone building and control system is actually really clever, but there's no way I could enjoy the game knowing one small mistake could erase all my progress. I wish it was more like Kerbal Space Program and less like FTL.

I can say as someone who first got the game when it hit Early access years ago.... This game has come FAR. I just started playing it again earlier this week, and 5 hours passed before I even realized. The way drones work is so much better than it first was, categorization is amazing and helps save keys while keeping functionality. If I had to pick one thing that I like the most, it's that shields DON'T make you invincible. If an enemy gets inside your shield radius, better rip him a new one before you start exploding and losing parts. Gravity is also nice. Trying to figure out how to get the most functionality out of the limited number of starting/reward parts makes you think smarter in order to work harder.

Like, the whole game seems like a demo, missions are repetitive, lacking range of components, enemy's are just same old.

Has so much potential but it falls flat pretty badly, nice if you want something to toy around with for an hour but apart from that meh. Bit sad really.

Good idea but incompletely implemented and now abandoned. Some more work and polish of the gameplay could have saved this game.

It's a shame that this game isn't better. It is SO CLOSE to being a classic that I would put hundreds or thousands of hours into. Unfortunately, the solid core gameplay is betrayed by the boring and repetitive quests, the small scale of the world design, and the lack of any difficult longterm goals. It's doubly damning considering the core gameplay was more or less lifted straight from Captain Forever, but then put into a smaller world, taking away the joy of discovery and exploration that was a key part of Captain Forever.

This should have been an open world game. Period. Planets should have been just one environment in a vast universe awaiting you if you fire your thrusters long enough. Instead, they tried to put Captain Forever into a really weak, watered down version of FTL, and the game really suffers for it.

If you're really into building, the sandbox mode may make this game worth it for you, but don't expect to play the main game for very long.

Somehow both a rougelike and a make-a-spaceship game (of course, just with drones instead of ships). A little bit confusing at first but after you'll be spraying cryogenic flame all over the place.

Customization of the drones is a blast. Multiple hotkeys can be assigned for various systems on the drone which keeps it interesting. I'd highly recommend to any engineer; however, I do wish (for the gamer in me) that there was more story and diversified planets. It does get a little redundant a few hours after you've beat it.

I didn't finish the campaign because of how repetetive it is. As I went further and further, the only difference wes number of things I had to collect or destroy, but the objectives remained the same. It didn't help that I purchased all of the hull upgrades early into the game (played as a miner and collected all red stuff on every planet).

Game concept in itself is great and execution of drone mechanics is polished, but singleplayer experience is way too tedious. I also wish flying a drone was funnier. It never felt smooth, and so the combat and navigation is very sloggish.

Much content is added to cover up how unpolished the main gameplay loop and balance actually is. Sensors and weapons are very limited and janky unless they're just straight up op. Everything being in gravity narrows what you can do and makes certain builds that exploit it op. A lot of gameplay is trial and error of messing with these janky mechanics. I don't even know what the point of a giant skill tree of minor stat increases and weapon variants is when everything is so unbalanced. Feels like a hacking together of the mechanics and adding of common gameplay elements. Maybe you'll still like it if you find those mechanics really exciting though.

I did not like this game for 1 reason: it's lack of objectives. There's basically 3 ways to play the game: Melee drones in multiplayer, Playing the campaign, or designing drones in sandbox that are just cool. I don't like melee things, and the campaign gets boring after an hour or two due to it's repetitiveness. And if you're just in sandbox you have no real objective. So all the guns you see in the trailers are cool, but they have no use in multiplayer because all modes are melee only. They are only used in sandbox and singleplayer.

Review: Nimbatus - The Space Drone Constructor is an original roguelike ship building.

You can build any type of ship you want then travel to the planets and complete missions for get resources for unlock more new types of weapons, engines ect...

Where it shines the most it's in the building part and the workshop because you can download constructions of other players or create your own.

The constructions of this ships can be amazing big and powerfull, mine it's the oposite, just a normally ship tryng to survive to the planets, also if you build larger ships the resources for deploy the ship are bigger.

The visual aspect also it's great, can be so shinny even with a little ship like mine.

You can see my Gameplay here : https://youtu.be/WcuL73Mb4_U

This is a great game. You can play so many different archetypes. However, I fond myself almost always playing the Programmer, and I have some suggestions that would be great.
1: The ability to make my own blocks have less health. It'd be great if I could set them all to 500 health so that one TNT on my homemade missiles can clean up everything by itself.
2: Multiple fallbacks on VTOL thrusters and Directional sensors. I'd love to be able to aim at the nearest enemy, then at the mission target, then at gravity. Currently, I can only have one fallback.

I like the promise and building bots are fun, but the gameplay loop itself is done quite poorly in my opinion. Why a tinkering/building game needs a rouge-like mechanics? Not only it is unnecessary, but it is also actively interfering with the most fun part of the game - building and testing bots. Having a deploy cost means that instead of coming up with crazy designs and sending them into a mission to test and have fun, I have to create deliberately functionally and boring designs and tediously creep though the mission trying to avoid any risks.

Also, the balancing is quite bad, at my first campaign the second mission I took was nearly impossible for the drones I could build from the parts available, so after sending drone after drone and spending all the resources I almost lost the campaign (on the second mission) and had to abandon it.

To summarise: a cool fighting bots building mechanics, but unfortunately without a good game to back it.

Wonderful premise marred by completely uninspiring missions. The missions are all very same-y and for the most part are without any pressure, so you can beat the whole game with like a 20-part ship that maybe you slap a heating or cooling part on sometimes. The enemies are very bland and usually simply able to be kited without danger (even without shields), and they have pretty abysmal AI and detection.

You CAN build behemoths like in the trailer, which is cool and respectable, but there isn't any reason to aside from just doing it to do it. The eventual flying them around isn't very engaging, and it's completely unnecessary or inefficient. Maybe the game would be better if all missions were timed, to give more reason to create monstrous, planet-chewing drones, but as it is, you can plink away with basically the same drone you built for the first mission and call it good.

Step 1: Build a drone.
Step 2: Test it and watch it fail horribly.
Step 3: Spend ten minutes tweaking it to make it work better.
Step 4: Try to use it to complete the mission and fail horribly.
Repeat steps 2-4 until it works right.
For some reason, this happens to be super fun.
I strongly recommend this game. It's short, but fun and worth the price.

Nice game with no limits for a reasonable price.

It's really easy to built your first simple drone. Once you understood the mechanics and the goals of the missions you can go crazy with building your drone. There are so many different ways of playing the game - you can built a drone for each kind of mission or a drone that is able to complete every mission.
There are many different kind drone parts you can attach to you drone and for experts there even are parts that can be automated. So if you'd like to learn and try new stuff in the game, you simply can try to built a new drone with parts you haven't used yet. That way the game never gets boring.

It's a cool game for in between. I absolutely can recommend the game, keep it up :)

Lures you in with its promise of designing and controlling cool drones only to disappoint you by making that take a back seat to the arbitrary random hull damage which ends the game and the high deployment costs of drones with many parts. The game seems to boil down to throwing together the minimal configuration of parts to get through levels while spending all of your time worrying about randomly taking hull damage that could be game over.

Amazing game if you enjoy any kind of building game. The progression stays interesting with a modular weapon system; the combination of base weapons, elements, and weapon upgrades makes finding new weapons exciting! Alternate captains to play as who have their own unique strengths. Overall, this game is very enjoyable.

The only downside I see to this game is the limited mission types. It's really not that much of a downside, but the main missions you will do are variations of destroy missions or recover missions. For me the ability to create new things to complete the missions in different ways negates the lack of variety. There are some more unique ones here and there, but it would be cool to see some new objectives. Also this is a super minor complaint, but I really enjoy playing as programmer, and I wish there were just a little bit more logic parts to work with. There is probably a way to achieve any logic through the parts provided, but it would be nice if there were some simpler ways. For example, a logic piece where it is given several inputs at different priorities, and will only allow the highest priority input to output to the rest of the system. That would make it much easier to program cameras that focus on just the important ships rather than having a camera that flies everywhere cause you have too many drones doing too many things. I might be able to come up with more logic pieces, but that one was just one that came to mind.

Game is great. Except for survival mode which is probably the mode most people buying this game are going to start in. The progression in survival mode is terrible. You clear the first 2 sets of solar systems, you managed to get a drone that works pretty well. You then keep that drone for the next 3 Sets of Solar systems giving small upgrades because some weapon looked cool. Then they go have you get your warp-drive that was stolen. Suddenly the games difficulty just skyrocketed with that mission. Everything up to that mission was relatively easy with exceptions of some missions which are just stupid hard (giant earth snake). They need to force the player to progress more to where they are actually equipped for that mission. If the progression was better, Id recommend this game entirely.

I have always loved building all the way back to my first Lego set. I like building forts in my real space around me. I later got into Minecraft and that was a natural next step for me. Then I discovered Robocraft. I was able to take all of my experience from forts, Legos, and Minecraft and turn it into two thousand hours of creative building.

Then Nimbatus was released. It has the best physics I have ever seen in a building game. In most games I have played a block is a block is a block. Nimbatus is not this, a block is only a block if you let yourself be put into a box. For instance, a block has 2000 hp it can only take 2001 damage before breaking, right? Nope, if you start to play around with tension and resistance you realize that 2000 hp is very dynamic.

This is a single player game by design, but without changing a single thing in the game you can turn it into a co-op game by making modular ships that can detach from each other. Now, all you have to do is map the controls to different keys on the keyboard and BAM! A single player game is a four player game. Say that is not your preference, you could go play it like Star Trek bridge command. Someone takes navigation, someone takes weapons, someone takes defense and someone takes sub-systems. What if none of that sounds like what you want? Maybe the online PVP is more your style, which is basically Robot Wars. This is an arena where you have to enter drones you make and automate them to fight other drones.

So to make a very long story short, Nimbatus is incredibly dynamic and what you get from it is going to be completely different from what the person just to your left or right may get out of it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this review.

This is tough to rate this as not recommended.

The main appeal of this game, for me, was concept of creating completely autonomous spacecraft. And at a glance, it does that very well. I was able to create several different ships that were able to go off alone and solve missions by themselves, and even a 'factory mothership' that would replicate a variety of subordinate drones that would do the dirty work for mom. It is pretty satisfying at first, almost like a simulation of 2D electronics with a unique environment to play with.

The problem comes during the scaling up these automatons, which the creators seem confident that this game is made for, seems how there is an achievement for having 100 or more logic gates (my most complicated working creation contained only 55). Which, gets me to my first and main complaint of why this game isn't very friendly for people like me that just want to create autonomous machines.

Besides sensors, almost the entirety of an automated ship is done with simple logic gates. That means at most two inputs, and ALWAYS only 1 output. Whats more is that each logic gate requires its own physical component that you must accommodate for. This becomes very annoying, because it forces you to try to group these components in physical space, because YOU CANNOT SEE THE INPUT OR OUTPUT WITHOUT CLICKING ON EACH INDIVIDUAL LOGIC GATE, SENSOR, OR MECHANISM. Inputs and outputs are defined as bindings to specific keys (or keywords), and you can't even get a list of these bindings that are already in use. There are absolutely no user friendly tools to help organize the logical structure of your machines. At the very least, there should be larger components that can group more than one logic gate, much like an integrated chip.

I swear, I have created more complicated electronics in real life that were simpler to create. This feeling of frustration was amplified by my second complaint. Much like in real life electronics, things just break for no apparent reason. At first I have a self destruct mechanism working perfectly (in case a factory drone loses too many sensors), and then I want to add a few extra components that do not use any of the same inputs or outputs, and BOOM, my self destruct mechanism goes off automatically right when the factory prints the drone. A similar issue happens with the import/export system. I have a perfectly working ship, I want to try to modify it in sandbox mode, and for whatever reason, the ship decides to behave completely differently, even though it is an exact clone.

I wanted to at least complete the game before I looked at any user tutorials or check out anyone else's creations, so I can't tell if others playing this game are as focused on creating ships with no user input. I know others have been more successful than I, because clearly some people have beat the game on Programmer. I started working on a ship to solve the last mission, but decided the frustration wasn't worth it when I tried to recreate and combine three factory drones that worked perfectly by themselves, but malfunctioned even though they don't share I/O. I am sure I could debug it, but that means I have to go through over individual 70 logic gates and their associated sensors and mechanisms. I drew my own diagrams to do this with other ships, but It just isn't worth it at larger scales without some sort of tools.

Like I said, this game is very intriguing to me. I am glad I bought it, but at the same time I don't know if I can recommend it, because the frustration has left me wanting to wait and see if the issues I have are addressed. I will absolutely be back if some user friendly features are added, and I hope to have a positive review then.

The game has a good idea and building drones is pretty appealing but in the end the game was just not enjoyable. The control of the crafts is very clunky and pretty much half the battle is getting the ship fly in the right direction, not fall into the gravity, etc. Secondly the missions get boring very fast and they are either very easy or almost impossible if you don't have the right parts yet.

I wanted to like this cos I like build-then-fly/fight type games. I just can't fall in love with this game though.

Its pretty rough around the edges despite being a released game. There's little help with the parts, the tutorial seems to give up after a couple of missions, the cut-scenes are dire, there's hardly any story...

Ships are hard to control. There seems to be no way to handle recoil for most weapons, resulting in your ship being blown all over the place on each shot.

The missions are really repetitive. You skip around an asteroid shooting some things and either kill the right things or grab something. That's about it.

There's no way to tell what power your ship has left or what damage it has taken. You can drop off you energy/fuel/storage stuff and then set off on your mission only to find yourself suddenly adrift with no engines and no weapons for no apparent reason.

The concept of your mother-ship taking damage is just a stupid RNG thing that adds nothing to the game. It increases frustration and means wasting resources on a trip to a 'garage' that can lead to more damage.

Maybe in another year or so it might be worth taking a look. For now it's not worth the bother.

There is a great idea of a game here. In my opinion a few things make the difference between seeing myself able to enjoy this for hundreds of hours and dropping it right now.

- Lack of polish: cutscenes, art, etc are laughable even by indie standards. Please hire an artist. YOu may think this is brutal, until you see the start a game
- Lack of incentive to continue playing: the 'game loop' is bad - even when playing singleplayer and unlocking items for a given run, you are never presented with instructions on how to use each part, or challenges that may utilize that part, etc

- THE BIGGEST THING: The soundtrack is incredibly repetitive and dark. What could have been a relaxing or fun atmosphere for creativity is subdued and hard to listen to after just a few minutes. You'll notice lots of streamers straight up mute the music when creating drones because of it. GIVE ME THE DAMN SONGS USED IN YOUR PROMOTIONAL VIDEOS.

There's a surprising depth to this game. I've played 22 hours of it and I'm still exploring some of the more complex parts and haven't touched all the game modes yet. I'm having great fun with it, and although there are some minor UI improvements I've wished for when working with more complex drones overall it feels like a very polished game. There's plenty of space to be challenged and to be creative.

I'd definitely recommend this, especially if you've enjoyed other games with some similar mechanical themes such as Kerbal Space Program or Minecraft.

There are lots of ways of playing this game - and most of them are excellent.
Personally, I like to build autonomous drones / and drone factories. The tools are good - there is definitely still work to be done - but it's pretty awesome.
Tutorials are necessary - currently incomplete, especially when building autonomous systems - one needs tags, and logic separation, and factories. So you will need to google a bit.

I bought this game in early access, and have only been playing for 12 hours, but I can already that I am going to be spending a lot of time on it.

It is the kind of game that ticks all of my boxes in terms of gameplay. It is a sandbox game, where you build and control your own drones to complete certain tasks. You have to add your own defence, thrusters, weapons, and recource gathering equiptment. There is also a weapons workshop that allows you to customize your weapons.

One of the best parts of the game is the ability to add logic gates, and vairius sensors. This allows you to automate different elements of the drone, or even fully automate it. This game would appeal to people who like sandbox games, physics games, problem solving and logic, and shooter games

I will start this review off on a positive note, the base concept of this game I like. The sandbox mode is great fun. The drone building and crafting system is also intuitive and enjoyable.

For what I DON'T recommend this game for is the story mode. The RPG style character selection is cool and the level progression is nice. BUT the way you lose the game is so disheartening and uninteractive it kills the game. If RNJesus screws you and you dont get a way to lower your threat level through an event or find a shop to repair your hull enough, you lose the game AND all your progress. You also lose the ability to use the drones you just built in the story mode (you can transfer them to a creative save but its not the same.) I lost a 6 hour playthrough because I couldn't find someone to repair my hull (and you don't even know for sure when you will lose hull either, you just know it MIGHT happen). So if they remove the RNG and Rogue-Like aspect to the story mode I will thumbs up this game (even adding perma-death as an option would be nice) but until then I can't recommend this game.

Hello, I would like to simply say this game is AMAZING! The gameplay is amazing (well, depending on if you're doing the hard campaign mode, creative mode, and drone controls and a million other factors), the music is really great, I like when you get into combat the music gets more intense. The graphics are extremely well made! Really, if you get the $40 to buy this game, you won't regret it. Just one disclaimer to all you guys out there: Don't play this on bad computers. You could if you wannt, but you'd get 10fps. Either way, great game!

Nimbatus has a lot of potential; the drone builder itself, the flying aspect, the animation and the music are all really fun. Building and flying is fairly intuitive, and the tutorial explains the basics pretty well. I have two main issues:

1) The game itself is pretty boring. I've only found 5 different missions so far (retrieve the blackbox, destroy corp stuff, destroy nests, destroy snake eggs, retrieve toxic barrels), and I've played several dozen levels. The fighting is slow, because you just engage one enemy and kill them while dodging bullets, because losing a critical component means you lose the level. And once you've accomplished the mission, you have to scour the entire planet for resources to make up the loss of building all those drones you lost (and you will lose many drones).

2) Nothing is explained. Yes, there are a few tutorials that teach you to build, fly and fight. But that's it. Take the blackbox mission for example: you have to retrieve a blackbox from some debris on a planet. Nowhere is it explained that the blackbox can only be found by destroying the containers with yellow lights. Or that the containers either drop the blackbox, an enemy, or a crate (which doesn't seem to have any apparent use, aside from making a noise when you destroy it). And the online community is nonexistent and the wiki is empty, so there are still many things I don't understand. But this would be okay (maybe you're supposed to learn everything on your own), if it weren't for one problem.

3) Restarting a level costs resources. Launching a drone costs resources. Everytime you die, you have to build another one. Which makes sense, except the level restarts. It's not like I send a second drone to finish the first one's job, I have to do the whole level all over again. Which means you can't just slowly accomplish you mission, you have to restart it every time. Toxic barrels explode so easily! I was doing a great run, lots of tech... and they kept exploding! Whether I crash into a tiny particle of earth I didn't see, or pick it up too roughly, it blows up half of my drone, including my magnet, meaning i can't continue.

The toxic barrel level is the one that made me write this review and ask Steam for a refund. Nimbatus has a ton of potential, and I'll keep an eye on it, but it's currently a waste of time and money.

I really like the game except for the fact that it deletes your save file if your hull dies.
