Cool:
- Original Narcos Charaktere aus der Netflix-Serie
- Original Soundtrack
- Gleiche Sprecher wie in der Serie
- Setting
- Quicktime Events beim Gegenangriff
Was ist OK:
- Spielgrafik
- Sounds
- Kameraeinstellung
- ausgelegt auf Konsolensteuerung
Negativ:
- Animationen (immer gleich)
What?)

Why on earth would they limit the player to one move or action per turn when you have 5 squad members. Some glaring issues include:
What's the point in having other squad members when you can only move one or perform one action per turn?
Why can the AI move multiple characters when they feel like it?
Why is there no over-watch?
Why does cover seemingly do nothing?
Why can AI run right up to my characters, shoot them at point blank range to maximum effect but when I shoot back the shotgun misses at point blank range?
All of these questions can be answered by the very theme of the game 'cocaine' clearly the devs were nose deep in the stuff instead of working on polishing the aforementioned issues I've raised. 3/10. The three points are for the game music (from the TV series).

YANOGA REVIEW
GRAPHICS - ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆
The best part of this game. In-Game and cutscenes looking good (but a bit stiff.) Not the best looking videogame but for a strategy game it's pleasurable.
MUSIC - ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆
Mostly the soundtrack of ''Narcos'' on Netflix. Makes me wanna see this series again.
STORY - ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆
Kind of a summary of the Netflix Series. Cutscenes without synchro and no real storyline. Only short films with people appearing or disappearing on locations. What a missed opportunity....
GAMEPLAY - ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
The reason I quit this game. IT MAKES NO FUN.
Moving just 1 Unit per turn slows down the whole game and there is no ''flow'' coming up. Strategy? Is not existing - Just take 3 Shotgun men and rush everything. This literally worked in every mission for 2 hours. KI? Does nothing when you're healing your whole squad and just moves when you in close distance (in which you 1-Shot everybody with Shotgun-Boy). Progress? Why would I care about progress when all you need are SHOTGUN-FUCKERS. I was bored after 40 Minutes and just played for 2 Hours for having a better opinion on my review.
WORTH BUYING - ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
No. There a like 1289 better strategy games avaiable.
Nothing more to say. I will give it some points for overall design but gameplay is just garbage.
LENGTH : Story is 18 Hours, I played 2

This game is amazingly fun! The counter attack and kill shot features are pure genius and add so much to a turned based shooter. I honestly do not understand the complaints regarding moving a single player at a time, this to me is a great feature and adds a lot of strategy to the game. The unit upgrades are pretty sweet as well.
There are a lot of details in this game that I haven't seen in other TBS like wounded bad guys limping away bleeding and dropping their weapons when killed. This just adds to the games immersiveness. And the story is great of course, so if you liked the show, you'll love this game!
If you're on the fence, pick it up on sale for sure and you will not be disappointed ... unless you just completely suck at planning out strategy and maximizing your squad (which I assume is the issue with the negative reviewers). ;)

Some early missions are pretty hard, while others of the end felt like the easiest. To progress through the campaing you must always make a high repetitive set of secondary missions to choose from in order to unlock the next main campaing mission.
The are not much progress for your soldiers, as same as for their skills. And even their chances to gain experience and level up are locked to your progress through the main campaing, meaning you will end many missions without getting any experience. Because of this, you will probably end with hundreds of unused skill points and hundred of thousands dollars not spent.
So why I am still recommending this game? Because I must confess I enjoyed this game, it was fun to play and I got it as a spare key from a bundle where I was interested in other games, so it came as a nice unexpected surprise. However I would only recommend getting it this way: through a bundle or with a huge discount.

The main difference you will notice is that instead of moving your whole squad before waiting for the enemy to make their move, is that you only move once with one character. Then the enemies do the same, and so on. This takes a little getting used to and makes everything a lot less strategic, but it's a different way of doing things.
You will also realize that 30 to 40% of the gameplay relies on using counteracts ( the equivalent of overwatch in Xcom ) effectively to have a clean mission. You will lose quite a few soldiers before figuring out how to use it properly, but once again, it's just a different way of doing things and not necessarily a worse one.
The graphics are okay, the two campaigns only have cosmetic differences but are long enough to keep you occupied for about 20 to 25 hours, and it's pretty cool to see the characters of the show if you are a fan, or even if you have simply watched it.
The voice actors are not great and the game doesn't always run fluidly ( looking at you, counteractions ). It also feels repetitive towards the end, and there are way too few maps as most side missions, that are required to play the main ones will happen on the same one or two maps associated with each type of mission.
Despite all this and the obvious fewer possibilities the game offers in terms of replayability or strategic decisions, I enjoyed it. Narcos : Rise of the Cartels is that younger kid down the street who's always willing to play when your best friend isn't available. He's not as smart and doesn't know all the rules, but you will have a good time if you don't expect too much.
You're done with Xcom and want a slightly different experience ? You're a fan of the show and want to play a tactical game ? This one's not bad, give it a try. Good effort, 6.

Metacritic scored this a '45 but for me, it's a little harsh. It has a mobile/cell phone feel to the game, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was made as one before it even reached Steam.
It features two campaigns covering the illegal enterprises of the Narcos and the legal overtures of the DEA. It's great that you can alternate between playing as the Cartel or the DEA, I know which one we all prefer though, lol.
It's def worth a shot. If you can get it under £5, dollars or euros then it's worth it. It won't blow you away but it's def aimed at fans of the series, hence why I was drawn to it.

Imagine X-Com style gameplay but in the world of Narcos. You get to play as the Good guys DEA and fight the Cartels and you can also play as the Cartel once you finish the game.
The game looks great, very clean and good level design, very true to the series and it also plays well too - yes it is a console port and some of the controls are a bit off but the game is not so intense so its easy to get used too.
If you are a fan of Narcos this is even better as it is voiced by the original actors and feels like you are in the TV Series almost! If you are a fan of X-Com style gameplay and want something else to try it is an option but don't expect it to be anything close to the level of X-Com, it is a simple game but fun nonetheless.

Apart from the story, the main problem is gameplay. Missions start repeating and get boring, just like enemies and locations. You have a squad of 5 members but you can only use one at a time, which doesn't make any sense, especially when you start seeing enemies moving 2 at a time. This makes the game really slow, boring and frustrating. You can't cover your allies with only one option to move, so someone will inevitably die during each mission and you will have to use the money you just earned to hire a new agent. AI is really really bad. Enemies have a basic suicidal instinct, so they will just rush you most of the time. When they don't rush you they go far away and start skipping every turn.
There isn't really anything good to say. Even if you watched and loved Narcos, stay away from this game.

But it also has a lot of good points that make it a good buy for turn based strategy fans and fans of the show. The mechanics aren't that bad despite the fact that it is possible, but unlikely, to complete any mission with a single unit and, if you look at it another way, prevent it from being just another XCOM clone. The story is okay, based in fact, and is pushed along with some nice cut-scenes and voice-overs, combat becomes more tactical once you are used to the awkward single unit per turn thing, whilst the maps do get repetitive the mission objectives within them can be quite diverse, and units themselves work quite differently adding to the tactical layer. It is also not completely without value that you have both a DEA and a Narcos campaign.
All in all Narcos is a decent attempt at a new kind of squad tactics game backed by a good license that probably accounts for it seemingly being somewhat over priced. If you like turn based tactics then it's a game you should own but get it on sale or in a bundle. In my opinion it is worth £10-£15 ($13-$20) rather than its £25 tag. But you can get hold of it for a lot less which makes it a very good buy.

There are I think improvements that could be made to the game-play to make it more enjoyable. For example being able to move only one of your team per turn.
I would recommend buying this game while its on sale at a reduced price!

You get to choose 1 character to move, AI chooses 1 character to move as well and so on and fore. To be honest, it wouldn't be so bad if it works like other turn base strat game where different character take their own turn to move instead of you deciding who moves.
I hope this is Kuju (Developer) last attempt at making a turn base, have they not played enough turn base games to understand how this type of game work and WHY they worked the way they were made instead of jamming their own shit thought mechanics into a game? Even at 60%, it's a hard pass, wait for it to be bundled, there's a reason why the price is dropping like crap, game came out less than a year and it's already bundled with fanatical mystery bundle for a reason.

PRO
- Great music that is featured in the show
- The locations do resemble areas around Colombia
- You get to play as both the DEA and the Medellin Cartel
- Really nice artwork used for character icons
NEUTRAL
- Various kinds of missions but they just seem to be mainly the same
- Real life names rarely come up which I guess is a legal/licensing issue.
CON
- The graphics are pretty dated for a 2019 game that seems more like a port of a mobile game.
- You can only move one unit at a time even though you have a whole squad
- You'll be visiting the same locations quite a few times
- Enemy AI will pretty much become suicidal and put themselves in danger just to damage you
- There isn't a great level of depth to it, all seems very basic
- The voices are all in English and some of them (namely Pena) isn't very good.
With some much needed improvements and graphical upgrades this could have been an amazing tie in to the show but it seems that they just didn't find the right developers for bringing the show to gaming.
If you're a fan of low budget strategy games, like ones you find on mobile, then you may take some enjoyment out of this. If you're looking for a more in depth strategy game like XCOM or Phantom Doctrine then you may not enjoy it as much with it's watered down gameplay. Even fans of the show like myself will have difficulty.
Also buy it on sale, £9.99 still felt a bit much for me, sadly.

If you played X-Com you know what you are in for. While not as deep, it still provides a lot to have fun with.
I'd even say that it's a great introduction for someone who did not like other games in the genre for their complexetiy.
Yes, it's a budget title, yes there are better looking games that have more to offer but still. For 15€ or under you can have a really good time with Rise of the Cartels.

Narcos: Rise of The Cartels:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The 1980s was something special to me as I was growing up and reaching my early teens, experiencing my first kiss, the right to legally watch the almighty Harrison Ford in the Return of The Jedi, and fabulous music with Witney Houston, Michael Jackson, George Michael and Elton John to mention a few. But who was a bad guy of the 80’s? Well, there was one from Colombia, and they called him El Patron, a man who was making 70 million a day (230 million today) by producing and distributing white gold, now known as cocaine. Netflix has produced a fantastic series about this era and now you can experience both sides, in Narcos: Rise of The Cartels!
Narcos: Rise of The Cartels is a turn-based strategy game developed by kuju and published by Curve Digital on the 20th November 2019 on Steam.
The game consists of 8 main DEA missions with side quests, as well as 9 main Narcos missions which also have several side quests. However, you’ll not be able to start your first game playing the Narcos; you will need to successfully clear one main DEA mission to unlock the Narcos campaign.
Whether you play the DEA or the Narcos, you’ll start the game in the war room where you’ll have a few options to choose from. The map will show you which missions are available, as well as the rooster, which is where you can purchase and upgrade units. There is also the Intel Board and Game Options.
The map will have rhombus shapes with a lock icon on them, representing the main missions. At the top of your screen, you’ll have a gauge which, at the start, has a couple of segments; as you progress through the game, there will be more segments. These segments signify how many sides you must complete to unlock a main mission. These side quests have different tasks, which could be to retrieve intel, escort an asset to safety, or kill one or more important people, with many more to choose from. All side quests will have a certain level of difficulty, from easy to hard, and will have a reward in the form of dollars if you complete them. Some missions will be free to access, while others will cost you money to play, but the reward will be significantly greater.
On your first mission, the rooster option will not be accessible as you must win a side quest first to unlock it. There you’ll be able to purchase new units or upgrade your current roosters with skill points which you’ll earn by completing a mission. Any units that have been wounded during your last battle can be healed here too, but it will cost you money to do so.
The gameplay is a bit different to what you’d expect, and I must admit that at first, I was not too keen about only being able to move one unit per turn, unlike other similar games where you can move all your units each turn. But it grew on me as I quickly realised that is all about placing one or more of your units strategically to eliminate all enemies swiftly and minimise your lost. You still have movement points, action points and counteraction points. Each time you move a unit, it will earn half a counteraction point. The maximum counterpoints a unit can have is two. But when you own one or two counterpoints and an enemy unit moves within the vision of your character which has one or two counterpoints, it will automatically be able to shoot at the enemy. But in this game, you control the shot; as the enemy moves across the screen, you’ll move your cross using your mouse and hopefully hit him. The other aspect that you need to be careful of is how much ammunition you’ll already use with any of your characters. It will also take one turn to reload your gun. So you might find that the unit you use with the counterpoint might be out of ammo on your next turn, and you’ll therefore need to select another unit to finish the kill. That will depend on how well you have strategically placed the other units on the map. Are they close by and loaded? This can become quite challenging at times, especially if the mission has turn restrictions to complete one or more tasks.
There are not many different types of units on both sides, and I do feel that the DEA grenade launcher is probably too powerful as it inflicts great damage from a distance, even having only one shell per turn with the next turn to reload. On the other hand, I think the character progression is pretty good and each class has its own skills.
Graphically, the game looks great, and I thoroughly enjoyed the original Netflix soundtrack. I also like that the Steve Murphy and Pablo Escobar voice overs are from the original actors (not sure about the other ones). I can see what the developers are trying to do, and I like it, but it will take players a while to become accustomed to the one-unit-per-turn aspect.
Positives:
~~~~~~~
+ Great graphics
+ The story is close to the original series from Netflix
+ Good unit progression
+ Quite challenging
+ Has trading cards and achievements
Negatives:
~~~~~~~~
- One unit per turn system will take time to get used to
- Can be frustrating at times
Which side are you on? Will it be the DEA or El Patron in Narcos: Rise of The Cartels!
7/10
