Der Untergang
Die letzten Momente einer Metro…
Gameplay
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2540901705
Fazit
„The Two Colonels“ ist eine schöne und kurze Geschichte, welche die Hauptgeschichte ein wenig ergänzt. Sie ist toll inszeniert und qualitativ hochwertig. Man kann sich den Kauf ja länger überlegen, da man eh erst das Hauptspiel spielen sollte. Ich empfehle den Kauf gerade im Expansion Pass mit dem anderen DLC zusammen.

I think the DLC is a must have. It tells you more about the end-game and it's wonderfully sad. I love games, that play with your emotions and it makes you think about life, loyalty and war.
-
The story is short (2-3 hours) but i does not matter. It's just right...
I played the Enhanced Edition.
Games runs stable and looks fantastic.

Review zu Metro Exodus - The Two Colonels

Gameplay-wise it feels way worse than the original. The levels are linear with no room for exploration, something the main game excelled at. There aren't any new mechanics and the variety of enemies and weapons is lacking. The first level is the most boring, it can be cut and half and it will still feel needlessly long. Thankfully, the story picks up after that and it's enough to keep you entertained for the last hour.
I wouldn't recommend getting this DLC by itself. The amount of content it offers is very small, it takes around 2 hours to complete and the quality is below the bar set by original game. Recommended only as part of the Season Pass or on a big sale.

This is the classic metro experience at it's finest
Two colonels is a completely linear, narrative heavy dlc for exodus that can be finished in 3 hrs or less.
This is a game where the game/gun-play takes backseat in favour of the story pulling the strings, which is not a bad thing at all- it just makes all the action sequences much more thrilling. This is all accompanied by a really compelling story which makes you care about your people even in the merely 3 hr period. And the beautiful thing I didn't realize how much I missed the previous metro games till I played this.
If you enjoyed the previous Metro games- small talk with random people, the minute details in environment, the sense of loneliness, the feeling of being trapped and confined in a dingy desolate space where no one can hear your scream- well then you'll absolutely love this dlc.
I think this short description will help you decide if this dlc is what you're looking for or not.
I highly recommend getting the gold edition as the other dlc- Sam's story is also very good.
Anyhow, I loved this dlc and I give it 9/10. I was very satisfied playing this.

Game design here absolutely mess. Don't see anything, slow weapon and story... I don't wanna even tell about it.
The main game wasn't good as last light, this one below than downgrade, probably company didn't have enough resources, or money or both.

you are really drawn into this gloomy and doomed world and get to see for yourself how the metro in Novisibirsk died out and ended up in the state that you find in in the main Metro Exodus campagin.
its very touching and emotional, as well as the final messege - the truth matters above all else.
its a bit dissapointing that this story was so short, there was much else that could be done, show off more of the war and riots inside the metro. show more daily struggles against mutants and going to the surface, but what we have is still compact, concise and a very effective story.
i do not recommend buying this expansion alone, you are much better off buying the Metro Exodus gold edition or the season pass in which this story is already bundled.

Emotional, filled with horror and cozy vibes from previous games. Mostly mutants encounter.
This DLC will give you a deeper and clearer view of the main game's last chapter.
Two colonels from two different stations with 2 different weapons but having the same goal and decency...
In case you finish the game, avoid spoilers and play this right after, this is a must-have DLC, without it, the whole game is incomplete!
I've seen many people having tears after this DLC, you might be the next, who knows!

it’s a rather short and very linear dlc, which is more in line with earlier metro games than the main game itself. there is no semi-open world exploration like in exodus and you will spend the whole 2-3 hours the dlc will take you to finish in the novosibirsk underground.
a couple hours of extra playtime with stripped back gameplay may seem unimpressive, but the dlc shows metro‘s biggest strength, namely the storytelling, to the fullest. it tells a well paced story with a very emotional second half and ending and it shows once more how well-written the metro series and it‘s world and characters actually are. on top there is a neat addition to the arsenal with the flamethrower which is pretty fun and satisfying to use. especially the opening hour made me reminisce some scenes from the first alien movies, thanks to this weapon and the circumstances in which it comes into play.
overall, there is nothing in here that can’t wait to be experienced until the next steam sale, but if you liked the main game and now are craving for some more metro, then 8 bucks is a fair price. for what it is, it is almost completely in line with the main game in terms of quality and fun, so its 6/8 is well deserved.
( ) 0/8 Simply one of the worst games ever made. Don't waste any money on this.
( ) 1/8 Bad. Seriously flawed with barely any redeeming qualities. Worth a couple of Cents at best, if at all.
( ) 2/8 Sub-par. Only for hardcore-fans of respective genre / series. Don't pay more than 5 bucks.
( ) 3/8 Meh-diocre. It‘s okay. Don't pay more than 10 bucks.
( ) 4/8 Decent, but not for everybody. Don't pay more than 15 bucks.
( ) 5/8 Good game, Must-play for genre- / series-fans. Worth 20 to 25 bucks max, if you are not a fan.
(X) 6/8 Great game, universal recommendation. 30 bucks would be a steal for this.
( ) 7/8 Outstanding game, a milestone of it‘s respective genre. Definitely worth its full prize.
( ) 8/8 Simply one of the best games ever made. Get this, the prize doesn't matter.

The gameplay is simply boring, no questions asked. Most of the time you will feel that the game is playing for you instead and basically everything feels like being a very long cutscene but the story behind it as truly amazing and really kept me in for more. I would recommend anyway who have finished the main story to check this DLC as it does fill a lot of gaps that were presented in the main game
as a DLC? 9/10 overall. Could be 10 if there was more interactive gameplay.

Thankfully, the story here is very engaging, heartfelt, emotional, and sheds warm light on two important characters in the main game. Some of the set pieces here are really very impressive. The main gameplay draw, the beefy flamethrower (and the horrific environments within which you get to use it) is an extremely satisfying hook. All this culminates in a very stoic yet inspiring ending, and I found myself surprised by how well it capped off the story and recontextualized the base game, if only a small part of it.
If you like Metro, and all that encompasses, you're sure to like this.

While this DLC does retread some areas that Artyom passes through in the primary campaign, it doesn't feel stale since players are seeing these areas six months earlier while they were still thriving. Instead of feeling a sense of deja vu, it's actually rewarding to see what preceded the hellish tomb that Artyom discovers in the primary campaign and the bulk of the DLC consists of new areas. Of course, being familiar with the current state of the Novosibirsk tunnels means that the events of The Two Colonels are anything but surprising but a quality presentation should hold your attention. This is DLC that, while brief, doesn't feel like it's cutting corners when held up against the main campaign.
In addition to new areas, players are also treated to a new weapon, the flamethrower, which is enjoyable to use, it serves as a tool for clearing out the slime and happens to be quite good at barbecuing nosalises. There are also a few upgrades available for the flamethrower and, like in the primary campaign, you weapon's effectiveness degrades when exposed to water, dirt and slime and unlike the primary campaign, Colonel Khlebnikov does not have a backpack to facilitate on the fly crafting making workbenches more important that ever.
The Two Colonels is brief at just a few hours long but quality is high with plenty of new voice over and a tale that fills in some of the primary campaign in a satisfying way plus the aforementioned new additions. As long as you are prepared for a linear game devoid of travels topside, this should be a satisfying compliment to your Metro Exodus experience.

This DLC is very story driven, and gameplay takes a backseat. Most of the DLC involves watching in-game cutscenes, with some combat in-between that doesn't offer anything new aside from the flamethrower. The chapter is also a blatant criticism against communism, as seen in unfolding in-game events and dialogue. The chapter is also very short, clocking in under 2 hours.
This would be a great purchase only if you're interested in learning about what happened in Novosibirsk's Metro system, what OSKOM was, and some of Miller's character development. If you're looking for tons of action and new gameplay mechanics, I would pass over this.

It's short. Really Short. Around 2 hours and the vast majority of this is cut scenes.
Does it add to the Metro story though - yes.
It is required - no.
Did I enjoy my 2 and a bit hours - yes.
Will I play it again? Probably not...
Do I recommend this expansion? If there was a third selection between yes and no - this would fit there. Wait for Steam sale and pick it up half price.

Overview
The first DLC for Metro Exodus, The Two Colonels, is a heavily story-driven adventure that unfortunately lacks complexity and enjoyable combat of a base game because the little there is of it is very short and shallow. Nevertheless, every Metro fan should give it a try.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- The story and characters are excellently written, and interconnects with the main story greatly, leaving a satisfying explanation of the past of several characters.
- As the main protagonist is finally fully voiced acted, it gives a better experience.
- The soundtrack and atmosphere overall give you a nostalgic feeling of the first game, Metro 2033.
- I have not encountered any bugs, glitches, or performance issues.
Cons
- Combat is much more limited, and you cannot choose your style as in the base game.
- The first section of the game is unexciting, and very easy, even on the highest difficulty setting.
In-Depth Analysis
Gameplay
The whole DLC is very linear and lasts about 2-4 hours. It depends on how much you explore, sightsee, and take part in optional dialogues. A new weapon, flamethrower, is presented in this addition. It is also your only weapon most of the time. Unfortunately, it is not as enjoyable as in the DLC for the previous title, Metro: Last Light, where you burned spiders. In the first section, you fight only slimes and slugs, which barely do anything to you. Even though the DLC itself is quite short, this first part feels that it is longer than it should be.
This DLC, however, catches its breath back very quickly as soon as you get into the station, where the real story begins. The station can be explored, as in the previous Metro titles, which give you a nostalgic feeling. The combat section with other humans, unfortunately, ends very quickly. Using the mentioned flamethrower against other mutants, such as Nosalises, is more pleasant, as you burn their skin, and they are trying to kill you. It is still not as entertaining as the base game, but at least it is not a walk in the park as the first part.
In short, this DLC offers average gameplay, and as a Metro fan, I am used to a more complex, and harder experience. However, this is my only complaint as the rest of the content is fantastic.

Story
This DLC takes place mostly before the events of the main game where you play as Colonel Khlebnikov in the city of Novosibirsk. There are implemented cutscenes with Colonel Miller that explains his journey from the final chapter of the main game. You play as Khlebnikov, who has the most crucial task. He and other stalkers have to find maps of irradiated areas where you could move. Because the stockpiles of your anti-radiation substance, also known as green stuff, are highly decreasing.
From the point you arrive at your home metro station, the game feels almost like a movie. The situation becomes even more and more desperate as you progress through the game. As it is custom in this series, you can find more about the lore via diaries, letters, and tapes. You can also chat a little with several NPCs or listen to their stories. I recommend doing that, as it is interesting, and it drags you into the atmosphere of those people's lives. The game even presents one moral dialogue choice, but it, unfortunately, does not affect the story at all.
The story of this DLC is of very high quality, and it easily overshadows the average gameplay.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2000396631
Audiovisuals
Just like the main game, the DLC offers a beautifully rendered and gorgeous looking world, once again providing one of the best atmospheric experiences within the first-person shooter genre. Most of your time is, however, spent in the tunnels of the metro, so do not expect to see bright areas or daylight very often. The living metro station gives a nostalgic feeling of the previous Metro titles, as there is a lot of life.
The audio and especially soundtrack are of a top-quality, as you would expect from this series. This DLC also uses quite often a soundtrack from the first title, Metro 2033, and fits the overall atmosphere. Also, the main protagonist, Khebnikov, is finally fully voice acted, so your character now actually responds like a human being.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2000396915
Performance
The game was tested with an i5 8300H, GTX 1060 6GB, and 16GB RAM, running at high settings at 60-80 frames per second, at 1920x1080 resolution. As this DLC takes place mostly in the smaller locations, it does not drop the frames very often, quite rarely actually.
I did not experience any bugs, glitches, or other performance issues. The game also did not crash a single time, which was a problem with the base game during its release.
Conclusion
The Two Colonels offers an amazing linear story-driven adventure that almost feels like a movie. It provides a nostalgic gest for the fans with its Metro 2033 references and soundtrack. It is worth its full price of 8€, even for its gameplay shortcomings.

+ Good, but very short story.
+ Amazing gameplay, just like Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light
The bad :
- Too short, it could be better DLC with better story and lore
The ugly :
* Some lines of the voice acting feels weird/off
It's one good DLC, but it could be far better. I would recommend this DLC for Metro fans who prefer previous game or heavily invested to Metro's story and lore.

The Two Colonels was the first DLC to drop for Metro Exodus. 4A Games sure took their sweet time giving buyers their initial glimpse into the Expansion Pass, as they waited six months to unleash this two-hour mini campaign that bridges the gap between what happened in the underground of Novosibirsk before Artyom and his crew got there, and how Colonel Miller ultimately met his end. The story colors in the life of Kirill's father, an established Colonel named Khlebnikov, and what exactly led to the infighting within their base. It also explains what the 'green stuff' is; simply put, it's RadX, and the supply was dwindling in a population that was constantly being irradiated. It's a darker, much grimmer tale than anything explored in the campaign of the base game, and it brings some much needed closure to a fairly unexplained area of the finale.
There's a new weapon this time around, a flamethrower, which is a fun hefty hunk of metal to swing around for a bit. Much of this DLC is spent listening to dialogue and watching the cutscenes that swap between Colonel Miller and Colonel Khlebnikov, so there's a very prominent walking simulator vibe here. That said, there are a handful of small fights to be had, but nothing particularly grueling. Those that don't enjoy a robust dose of narration will probably find The Two Colonels to be exceptionally boring, but those who are invested in the lore of Metro will be captivated. The cutscenes in particular are brilliantly done, and the transitions between the two main characters is adeptly cinematic. That said, the beginning is a slow-burn that takes a bit to get into.
Rating: 3.5/5.0 - Average, can take it or leave it.

This DLC has you go back and forth between the present with Colonel Miller exploring Novosibirsk Metro & going to different points in the past as Colonel Khlebnikov, exploring the events that led to the current state that this metro is in.
The gameplay is more Metro, but there isn't really anything new to it. There is a good amount of level variety that keeps the pacing from dragging on, there are also some non-combat sections that have the same great attention to detail that you saw throughout the series.
I'm going to refrain from going into details on the story, that's why you would probably play this after all. I liked it, though I do wish there was more to the conclusion. There is a dialogue sequence with a major character that makes it seem like it might go in 1 direction but goes in another that while makes sense to the plot of the main game, did feel like a missed opportunity. It also wasn't very long, if you got all the diary logs and searched every lockercorpse for resources, you would be looking at a playthrough of about 3 hours. It didn't feel like it dragged for that runtime, I just wish it was more build up to reach the conclusion. Overall, I enjoyed Metro Exodus - The Two Colonels, however I would only recommend this if you enjoyed the story of the main game.

There's one ~10 minute section of combat where you must hold off enemy troops, yet 95% of the time you can sit by and do nothing as it all plays out. Might as well be a cinematic.
Pretty average.
