Die Umsetzung des Spiels ist solide und basiert auf dem Command & Colors Spielprinzip. Da ich nichts bezahlt habe schreibe ich zu dem Bezahlsystem nichts. Die Spielmechanik an sich ist zu abhängig vom Glück die erforderlichen Karten für Einheitenbewegungen zu ziehen und im Kampf entsprechend zu würfeln. Mit Taktik ist da nicht mehr viel auszurichten, was durch die limitierte Anzahl unterschiedlicher Einheiten noch unterstrichen wird.

Das Spiel erinnert an History-Line 1914-18 was Thematik und Hexfeldaufbau anbelangt, nur das History Line taktisch um Welten tiefer angelegt ist mit Erfahrungspunkten für Einheiten, Fabriken und Depots welche man erobern kann, umfassendes Einheitenarsenal....etc. Der Vergleich hinkt natürlich etwas da History Line ein reines PC Spiel ist. Man bemerkt in dem Vergleich jedoch recht gut wie oberflächlich und annähernd nichtexistent die Taktikkomponente in Memoir44 ausgebaut ist.

Für Fans des Brettspiels, welche mit dem Bezahlsystem klarkommen ist es für eine schnelle Runde zwischendurch zu empfehlen.

Memoir'44 ist neben 'Catan - die erste Insel' die beste mir bekannte Brettspielumsetzung!

Lange Zeit war Memoir'44 das Spiel, das ich am längsten via Steam gespielt habe, weil es schlichtweg großen Spaß macht. Eine virtuelle Brettspielumsetzung hat viele Vorteile: Zum einen ist man nicht mit Auf- und Abbauen beschäftigt, was bei Memoir manchmal schon eine gewisse Zeit in Anspruch nehmen kann. Andererseits braucht man keinen Mitspieler zu finden, man kommt einfach online und spielt mit anderen Spielern dieser Welt, die dieselbe Leidenschaft teilen.

Positiv:
Die Grafik ist wunderschön und in 2D. Ich bin froh, dass die Entwickler sich nicht für 3D entschieden haben, das hätte einfach nicht gepasst. Die menschlichen Spielgegner erscheinen in der Lobby in einer Liste, in der ebenfalls der Rang des Spielers dargestellt ist. Dadurch kann man ungefähr einschätzen, wie erfahren der andere ist und ob man überhaupt mit ihm spielen möchte. Ich würde empfehlen, in den ersten Spielen nicht ungefähr mit einem Colonel/Oberst oder gar General zu spielen, sondern mit anderen Anfängern wie Leutnants/Lieutenants oder Kadetten, zumal jeder im Range des Kadetten das Spiel beginnt.
Ebenfalls positiv ist, dass die KI sämtliche Schussmöglichkeiten selbst errechnet und grafisch darstellt, was man in einem realen Spiel am Tisch leicht übersehen kann. Sämtliche Terrainplättchen und Regeln sind im Spiel übernommen worden. Per Rechtsklick kann man jederzeit die notwendigen Terraunbeschränkungen oder speziellen Regeln ansehen. Langes Rumgesuche nach den entsprechenden Karten entfällt aufgrund dieser Komfortfunktion.
Enthalten sind von vornherein die Erweiterungen Mediterrenean-, Pacific-, und Eastern Theatre.

Negativ:
Größter Kritikpunkt meinerseits ist das Bezahlsystem von Memoir'44, was letztendlich auch zum Untergang des Projekts führen wird. Für wirklich jedes Spiel mit Ausnahme der Tutorialszenarien muss man Geld in Form von Tokens bezahlen, sogar wenn man alleine gegen die KI spielen möchte. Wenn man ein dickes Tokenpack mit 1000 Token kaufen möchte, dann kann man schon mal einiges spielen (jede map ca. 3 Token), aber es kostet 60€, das finde ich viel zu teuer. Wieso kann ich mir nicht ein Spiel zum Vollpreis erwerben, dafür aber immer spielen? Das ist mir unverständlich und letztendlich gehen die Spieler deswegen auch verloren, denn wer will schon jeden Monat 20€ bezahlen, nur um weiter Memoir spielen zu können? Das finde ich sehr schade! Letztens war ich nochmal online und habe bereits einen drastischen Spielerrückgang festgestellt.

Zweiter Negativpunkt ist, dass das schon lange vergriffene Airpack unverständlicherweise nicht intigriert wurde. Es wurden zwar die Übersichtskarten übernommen, aber die schönen Flugzeuge weggelassen. Schade!!!

Trotz der negativen Punkte empfehle ich Memoir'44 natürlich sofort, denn es ist wie eingangs erwähnt eine der besten Brettspielumsetzungen, die es gibt. Außerdem ist das Spiel Freeware und man bekommt ein Startkapital von 50 Tokens, was kann man da schon falsch machen, um das Spiel kennen zu lernen? Richtig. Nichts!

Memoir44 wurde von Days of Wonder fallen gelassen! DoW hat bekannt gegeben, dass sie fuer Memoir44 keine Updates mehr anbieten werden. Das bedeutet, dass die ganzen noch vorhandenen Bugs nicht mehr ausgebessert werden. Es wird auch keine Integration des Air Packs oder des Equipment Packs geben. Aus diesem Grunde ist das Spiel jetzt nicht mehr zu empfehlen.

Fun game besides that its pay to play. That ruins the entire game. Also I am unable to open the game without it telling me to go download it off their website. It just sends me in a death spiral back and forth to their site. Do not download until they change from pay and play, its very addicting.

I'd love to buy this game outright. Have to pay per play besides the two free scenarios is bogus. Really disappointed I don't have the option to just pay more up front and be done.

this is actually a very good representation of the board game.
(there is only 1 card that i cant always get to play properly, which is the ambush card, but the game is still very good) :)

Ok, so the DoW excuse for the Gold Ingots is they just wouldn't be able to sustain the game if they sold it as a 1 time purchase. So if they are earning around 15 cents for each game played, why does the interface look straight out of the 90s? Digital board games have come a long way in 10 years, and Memoir 44 Online has not kept up, even with the pay-to-play model, which makes it 100x worse in my opinion.

(And by the way, the gold ingot exchange rate seems to be worse if you don't sign in with a DoW account and use a Steam account instead).

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, make it so we can buy the full version of the game. And just make expansions or whatever. Its crap that people have to spend money just to keep playing.

I absolutely adore Memoir 44. And personally love the idea of an online version of a game who's expansions are more valuable than gold. But the pay to play mechanics is not something I can endorse.

I fear I'm going to write nothing new.
It's fine game. it goes at a fast pace, with easy to understand rules. True reproduction of the board game, and a lot of variety.
BUT ...
The pricing model is totally unacceptable and even on the verge of unethical. If you play against the AI, you are pestered to death, so you feel like you HAVE to play on line, if you ever want to win. And that will cost you money. I think Steam should delete it from their portfolio for reasons of unacceptable sales practices.

Would much prefer to buy the game rather than pay incrementally. The UI is dated and bland compared to board game adaptations that have done it right. No Mac version means I have friends who I can't play it with. The physical board game is a masterpiece. Really wish there was an entirely new version of the digital adaptation.

The game replicates the board game faithfully but due to its pricing model compared to the quality of the game its not worth the effort. I would rather spend the money of the physical product.

So I recommend the Board Game, but not the online overpriced version.

IGOUGO tactical game. Cards are randomly dealt and deliver a degree of uncertainty and even restrict choices if you are dealt the 'wrong' cards. Forces are not always matched evenly which gives a real feel to the battles

My God This game is horrible. The board game is great and i'd recommend that, however, the AI in this is unbelievable lucky. Then there is the whole gold used to play matches thing which i'm not gonna bother even talking about. I suppose its free so why not download it and see for your self.

While Memoir '44 isn't going to be knocking anyone over with it's in-depth strategy, it does make for a really fun play. The fact that the rules are so easy to learn is what makes the game so very accessible.

I own the board game and it is a lot of fun. Years ago when you bought the original board game it came with a little code, so you can play at Days of Wonder's website for free. Those days are long gone. If you want to play M44 you can play this for free for the first 15 games and then you have to pay to play. This is completely ludicrous! For a good implementation I'd be happy to buy a copy of the game, but I am not going to waste my time with this under the current system.

Pretty awful, actually. Seems much better to me to be up-front about costs than run things this way. Can't possibly recommend because of this but the game too has awful AI and appears to compensate by loading the dice. Bizarre, as this is a really good boardgame.

It's a great game and implementation is good, but the monetization is just awful. You can play just two tutorial scenarios for free, and you have to pay each time you want to play any other scenario. There is no way how to buy to full game, ever. Days of Wonder, shame on you for this. Also, there are some bugs - you can't play Ambush card, but the enemy can. Steam achievements and ingame achievements don't work. It's really a shame, because I like the board game and I would really want this implementation to be good.

It's a great game and fun to play and a great reflection of the actual board game but you need to spend real money to buy in game gold so you can play matches and in my opinion that's unacceptable. I understand buying new maps and stuff but not having to pay money to verse people

This game is such a cash grab. You need to pay money just to play it, so Days of Wonder has moved into the greedy micro-transaction model of the video-game industry. Great. Way to spoil my favorite board-game of all time. The dice rolling is COMPLETELY broken and favors the AI consistently. I also caught people cheating and using hacks to negate falling into ice river terrain. As always, some of the gamers in this community ruin the experience for everyone else. Nothing is done about it because Days of Wonder doesn't care about this game other than the cash it's bringing in. The developer(s) should be ashamed of themselves for designing a game this poorly when the pedigree of the board-game is second-to-none. I roll dice poorly as it is, but in this game, it's so blatantly obvious that the AI stupidity is compensated by excellent dice rolls. I do not recommend this game. Play the real (board) game.

shameful money grab, pay to play RNG. The only benefit of the online version is that you get to see how unbalanced the maps are (90% win for one side on some maps, wow). If you are looking for turn based strategy look elsewhere.

why oh why are we paying for a single game over and over seems a rip off, set a price let us pay it but we can play the game when we like and not paying two or three times more than other games , And theres no updates or bonuses for the content,

as good as the board game, great port - but it's disingenious to market it as free to play, when you only get 50 free matches before it's pay to play, and - even worse - subscription based.

also, achievements don't work, so if that's your thing be warned.

Would I recommend this game? Yes IF it was the actual board game. Because you pay once and you can play everyday forever. This digital version is great because it has most of the expansions included, easy to play BUT after a short period you have to start paying actual money to play - continually. That's just plain stupid. IF this game where a one time pay and you own it for life, like say 19.99 (which I think is fair) I'd buy it in a heart beat. But this game ending up being a pay-to-play is really the only reason it's got a bad rap. Do yourself a favor and try this digital version to see if you like the general overall play and game mechanics. THEN when you run out of your gift coins...DELETE and buy the actual board game!!

I own the board game and all expansion and i love it, this is really good pc version of the boardgame, and i would pay 35$ to buy this game and play it, but free to play first 15 games free and then pay 5 dollars for another 20 games or so and another 5 dollars another 20 games, come on its bad thing to do, allow my just go pay once 35 dollars so i can own this game, but this method of selling is shithorse. I love the game but the selling method of this game is ripoff please change this and i will gladly buy the game instead. Pay once not endless.
