In MapleStory ist deine Spielfigur einzigartig und kann ganz nach deinem eigenen Geschmack und Stil eingekleidet und geschmückt werden. Du kannst jedoch nicht nur ihre Kleidung und den Schmuck ändern, sondern zudem ihr Gesicht und die Frisur - es ist sogar eine Schönheitsoperation möglich! Es stehen unzählige Items und Stile zur Auswahl. Du wirst einen Riesenspaß damit haben! Alleine sich die ganzen unterschiedlichen lustigen und coolen Charaktere anzusehen, die durch die verschiedenen Felder reisen, bringt gute Laune. Been playing for a decade and the KMS side of this game are good they take care of their community and such, however the north american portion only care about your wallet and not about the health and state of the game regardless of how many memos they publish saying they do care, its all fake just to get your money and nothing else.

I cannot recommended this game any more. The game developer bring new content to the game slower and slower. Even the Korean server don't have much new content.

The events are boring and rewards are worse than before. Meaningless event that requires you to login everyday to play more than one hour. But the daily quest takes about 10 mins and you have nothing to do next.

Training and leveling is more boring when it close to the end game, takes more than 10 hours to get 1 level up.

NX america don't care about players' voice at all. They remove item from cash shop, nerf boss rewards, they just don't care.

Why waste your time on this sheet game, go play Lost Ark instead.

I have many fond memories of this game from my childhood, and still find myself wanting to come back years later. Even without the nostalgia factor, the art and music still holds up. Obviously there is a lot of grinding, but that is more of a problem with MMOs in general. Unlike other MMOs, there is a completely F2P option with the Reboot server, but you are certainly trading time for money with it. Sure, there are plenty of better ways to spend you time, but this is far from the worst.

Told my friends about this game. They called me stupid....I looked down at my hands and slowly moved them back to my keyboard eager to play this game some more.
Replay value= 10/10 I'll never quit playing
Visuals=10/10 The Mushrooms are my favorite
Entertainment=20/10, like my vision when staring at this game letting my eyes dry out.
If your friends know about this game and they don't play with you, they aren't your real friends.

Been playing casually for many years and I probably have 1000+ hours. So if you are starting this game in 2022, STAY AWAY!!! It is a fun game, however the time and dedication required to see progress is definitely not sustainable and there are better games/things you can do with your time. I honestly and wholeheartedly believe the developers and management team of Nexon is deliberately trying to destroy this game. Whether it's lack of communication with the player base or even just terrible implementation of new and old content, it is not worth it at all to start playing this game in 2022 -- for both the regular servers (heavily inclined to P2W) and the reboot (F2P) servers. Once again, STAY AWAY.

This game is just only filled with nostalgic value at this point, game is extremely grindy and pay to win but that doesn't mean that you have to pay to have fun. If anything, you'll never pay to get better but probably just end up spending your money for some stupid appearance items.

The music is heavenly, honestly, the only good aspect of this game.
The devs seem to be screwing over the entire playerbase and is constantly made fun of.

But don't let me take away your joy, this game sucks you in for an hour and makes you feel like you wasted your time. People only come back for the nostalgia and that is all there is to it. I loved this game since I was 6 and seeing it crumble to where it is now is just disappointing. Don't play if you don't like mindlessly grinding for 10 hours straight only to see your xp bar move 5 inches across your screen. Enjoy while it lasts because NA Maplestory is slowly crippling.

BUT THE MUSIC IS A FUCKING BANGER

I believe I agree with the other reviews for the not reccomending aspect, however I do believe you should try it since it's free. It's definitely a refined palette type of game, a game you need friends who've played it before or youve played the original. It's got quests and tons of story thats really good, I think i actually cried at some of it. Its got constant updates and its sure to bring you many hours of joy if its your type of game.

Personally i have been with this game since the beta, the game had ups and downs, but personally i love it, and i keep coming back even after i'm done with it,
My advice for this game is to watch a youtuber (And fellow dutchie) called Coppersan for some propper starting tips and advice.
Also take some time to get used to the game, its an old game and some things are less optimized, but the game is very stable as of this review and with the 64-bit client coming up in the next update the game will get even better if you ask me.
I'd rate this game as a must try. give it a chance of at least a few hours, if you like it you are forever hooked to it, this is also a warning! XD

The devs genuinely don't care about making the game better; they make money off their heydays and sheer nostalgia. Old content won't get fixed, only new context added. They know this by making levelling up faster to skip it.
Bans get dispersed willy-nilly, crashes happen all the time.
This is a dying world, flee it.

Maplestory is a game that is driven entirely by nostalgia, addiction, and e-social status.
As with every MMO that has passed the decade age, it suffers from extreme power-creep that leaves enormous gaps between early and mid-game content and end-game content. The game constantly adds new item or upgrade systems to continue to provide progression routes to its aging veteran end-game community. Party play is nearly non-existent outside of 6-man end-game bossing parties. Character classes are designed around this, and few classes make any meaningful difference to a party, leaving choice of class up to personal preference.

What keeps the game going is an appealing visual style, a high degree of character cosmetic customization, plentiful grind-oriented events, and a diehard core fanbase that never falters.

If you choose to play this game, be prepared for mandatory massive hours-long grinding sessions on multiple characters to make progress. Regardless of which server you choose to play, the grind never ends.

I think the only reason anyone over the age of 20 would play this game is for the nostalgia, but even then it's hard to recommend in its current state. For a free game, it's fun for about a single afternoon. It's a shell of what it once was, however. It's nowhere near as social as it used to be.

Does not matter how good your PC specs are. Maplestory is an antiquated game that runs poorly on any PC. Constant mem leaks causing you to restart the client, random lag spikes, random game crashes, and I specifically hate the fact that you cannot change channels within 1 try. You have to spam the channel you want to change to by selecting it multiple times and often causes your game to crash. The fullscreen mode is awful, bad resolution and if you run two monitors you are forced to play in windowed mode at a resolution of 1200x800 or 1920x1200 to prevent the game bugging out your PC everytime you click on the other monitor or any multitasking on your second monitor. Fullscreen/borderless windowed is not even an option IN GAME which is laughable. I have been checking in on this game since 2006 and I am more disappointed than impressed. The game has it's charms due to the cartoon style but can extremely misleading for parents monitoring what games their children are allowed to play due to the playerbase being a lot older than what you would think and just the general toxicity of the players. I play on Bera which is a pay2win server and the game can easily cause newer players and children to get a gambling addiction due to the lootbox style microtransations.

A lot of people really just won't get it, but there's something beyond the characters, and the background, and the monsters, and the music. I can't say exactly what it is either, but nothing has ever replicated this magic sensation that clenches my heart every time i see this game come up as recommended. This seemingly banal, trivial little game means so much to me. I'm 26 and I know I've still got a lot in front of me, but honestly, through everything I've lived up to this point, I don't think I've ever been as happy as I was when as a kid I sat in front of my computer and played this thing along side so many other old MMO's such as Mabinogi, Fiesta online and VMK. I tried it once again this year, and it's just not the same. Many of my fondest memories live inside Maplestory as well as the other MMO's from this time, even if I can't remember them; and sometimes memories really are better than the world out there. I'm only recommending this game as a homage to my childhood, i wish i could go back in time and feel the way i used to feel about this genre, i miss it.

Great bosses, terrible grind. Expect to be leveling roughly 35 different classes to 140 for Legion and Link skills before you even think about the midgame grind and by that I mean 5th job / Level 200. After that expect to be grinding Arcane Symbol dailies for roughly a year straight before you see Black Mage. That isn't even including gear progression, cubing and flames RNG to get gear good enough for high level content, and soon Authentic Symbols once new content comes over from Korea. At least if your not playing Reboot you can buy the gear, the Arcane grind however can not be skipped.

I've had fun over the years, but the endgame grind is too much to ask in my eyes.

I played this game back in the day, before the Pirate class had even been released, before the redesign. I think I stopped playing as soon as the other company had taken over.

I don't recommend this game. I can't. The only reason I had stopped playing was because I had gotten burnt out on it, playing it way too often. Anyway:

Pros: Some of the newer characters/classes are interesting? I enjoyed the story for Pathfinder and a couple of others. The music is still amazing and the art is as colorful as ever, still a joy to look at.

Cons: Deleted maps, questionable redesigns that break the flow of existing maps, portals that lead to the wrong buildings, portals that don't work anymore, lazily placed assets that don't always load in properly to begin with and block walkways when they do decide to load in, quests forcing players to teleport to different maps without having the chance to figure out where they are (on the more story driven characters, I get it, but not for the open ended classes), what the FUCK is that portal hub and why is it letting you go to mid-game maps right off the bat? Why are the redesigns so freaking LAZY??? What happened to this game that it became just so messy??? Even on regular servers, without any EXP/meso boosts, I'm finding my self drowning in levels. I was getting them so often I only bothered allocating points every ten levels.

I had a lot of awesome memories with this game. Played it back when there were only four classes and poured hours into it. Made friends on it, I actually got to explore the game and now? It just feels like they streamlined it so that players could get as many levels as possible with as little effort.

Idk, its just really disappointing to see it happen. Its a dried out husk of what it once was, filled with bugs and lazy 'fixes'.

At least the hackers aren't as plentiful anymore.

It just doesn't work on my machine. Apparently this is a widepsread issue with no apparent fix; the game just constantly hitches and freezes every couple of seconds, sometimes long enough for the enemy to get a few hits in on me. It's not playable, and it's such a shame because I know I'd really like this game if I could just play it.

It's lost a lot of charm over the years, and many players rightfully complain about pay-to-win mechanics. Multiplayer content has taken a backseat as most players prefer solo.

Still, there is fun to be had grinding mobs and trying each character class. I recommend playing on Reboot, a server that disables trade and most pay-to-win items. Put on some podcasts and zone out.

Gotta just say I love the game. I would however not recommend it to anyone. It's not due to the grinding that for some reason my dumb brain enjoys. Or making my characters soft boys with cash shop items. No. It's the QUALITY PIECE OF SOFTWARE. Most days I sit here at my computer waiting, just waiting, to see if the game wants to launch. I feel like it takes pride in the multitude of ways for it to somehow crash or not launch altogether.

It was my first MMO 15 years (or so) ago, I loved it a LOT and I would have recommended it easily back then, but these days all the classes are crazily unbalanced to the point where I picked a class, had really great gear and struggled with a bossfight for 2 minutes while my partner with a different class, who barely geared up, almost one-shot the boss.

I do like the new'ish pet system though where 90% of the monsters in the game are obtainable as pets.
Also the ideas of the classes are kinda cool.

IF they balanced the game to the point where all those new classes were able to do party quest with other classes including the very old ones, then I would recommend it, otherwise no.

I absolutely love this game, but if I'm being honest, it's super shitty. They can update it and make new events until the cows come home but that won't make this game NOT feel like it was made 2005.

I only come back to it when they release a new character class, and I play until there are no more character specific quests, because that's literally the only entertainment I get from the game, everything else is just a masterclass in being as repetitive as possible

I played Maplestory 2 when it came out and Quit after a longer Time, cause the Game was too much RNG and needed too much Time to Play, now its Closed sadly, cause not everything was Bad. Im trying Maplestory out now, cause i really liked the other one and im not disappointed its Fun, so if you need a MMO to Play sometimes go for it :D

My first MMORPG, it's a game I've played a lot, i have a lot of good memories with it, but everything i liked about it is dead now a days, Nobody does party's or party quests anymore, guilds feel like a bunch of people who only get together to do boss runs, anything social is basically gone, i used have a lot of actual friends here, now it's a ghost town.

So all in all i don't recommend this game.

This game has the potential to be great. The concept of a 2D MMORPG that's all animated is pretty cool, and there's a lot of charm in this game. I currently have a level 230 Kinesis in Reboot (I use nexon launcher instead of steam) and I've (somewhat) enjoyed the grind up to that point. The community at least in the server I play in is large and thriving. However, this game has major problems that's been in the game for as long as I can remember.

Pros:
- Tons of options in terms of which class/job you want to play with + no big loss of time if you change your main (passive benefits for each char you play)
- Great and flashy animation for a lot of moves, some of the characters you can play can feel extremely fluid
- Customization options are massive (comes with a catch mentioned in cons)
- Large community
- Constant updates and events are happening

Cons:
- Tons and tons and tons of bugs (I cannot stress this enough), includes: buggy bossfights, broken UI, frequent game crashes, possible false ban, very laggy servers (in reboot, idk how it is in other servers)
- Non-reboot servers: very p2w, Reboot servers: overwhelmingly grindy
- Cosmetics is expensive/not worth the price: getting the look you want is based on rng a lot of times or it's time limited
- Nexon
Let me elaborate on the last point in the cons section. This company has been overwhelmingly incompetent when it comes to developing Maplestory. The company has been making extremely controversial balancing decisions for the game, as if they are purposely trying to slow down progression so as to increase the amount of money players have to put in this game. They have no transparency whatsoever. They often change the game without mentioning it in patch notes. They have also done nothing to fix the known problems of the game that has been here for the longest time.

My main point of this review is, if you want to play for nostalgia's sake or just to try it out as a completely new player, go for it. It's a nice experience to try this game (if you get lucky and don't get bugged out), and you can clearly see the charm this game has. However, I would STRONGLY recommend NOT to play this game if you are looking for a game to spend a lot of time in. Nexon has shown little to no interest in listening to the community and they probably never will. You would be better off playing in a different game where the company actually cares about their community and things are hell of a lot more polished than this game is.

This game acts like it is all cutesey and for little kids, but as soon as you enter and login, you make your character and the game begins to bombard you with rewards as you level up, next thing you know you have been playing for the past 12 hours straight and didnt even realize it. I would highly suggest you avoid this game if you value your time, your life, your family, and your friends. This game will absorb your soul and coat it to make you feel like you were using your time wisely. Please avoid this game, I somehow find myself returning to this game every few months for the past decade or so, and never realized it hooked me, this addiction is worse than a drug, so please do yourself a favor and dont download the game.

Ive put over 3k hours in this game and my life has been great, I get all the women and my mom says im the best son shes ever had. 10 outta 10 would tell my friends to play, even if it cost my dad leaving to become the best mapler/gamer in the world.

the PIC system ruins the game. I haven't played in years, tried to play again, don't remember PIC so I can't even play. The reset process involves logging into the NEXON site, how can I do that when I have a steam account? Remove PIC if you want people to play again.

Saw the Isekai Quartet event and figured I'd give the game a shot. After being blasted with all kinds of lore and class info that I had 0 way to contextualize, I decided to spam through the usual drawn out MMO intro to get into the game.

Upon doing this, the game closed itself and accused me of hacking, stating no external programs can be running at the same time as the game.

According to someone familiar with the game, either one of my totally harmless programs (Discord, Wallpaper Engine, etc) freaked out the anti-cheat for no reason, or I clicked too fast and it assumed I was using a hotkey program.

Either way, this situation is ridiculous. Uninstalled and never looking back. If you're casually interested in the game, don't bother.

Game doesn't launch anymore

Let me give more detail, I've done IT work for half a decade now, making programs work on setups is what I do.

Nothing I've learned in those years has made maple work, no amount of registry fuckery, complete uninstalls including said registry entries, leaving the entire firewall off and disabling security programs has helped, I've been staring at a white screen for 30 minutes now and I need somewhere to vent because the official tech support is even dumber than I am

Even if it did work I'd never recommend this game to another human because I'd worry its gonna wake a gambling addiction within them and that'll give nexon revenue that I assume they do jack shit with beside make merch and give it to execs because it sure isnt spent on their tech support or in game mods or servers for the game or devs.
