WOW. What a phenomenal experience. Never really played many puzzle games and only needed assistance from a walkthrough once, so if you're thinking of buying this just for the visuals but not sure about the puzzle aspect, you'll probably do fine.

This is a puzzle game second and an exploration of the concept of infinity and perspective first. The purpose of the puzzles are to provide context and motivation for observing this geometry.

The most similar game to Manifold Garden that I've played is Antichamber, which came out in 2013. Both are abstract first person puzzle games that have minimalist aesthetics with solid colors and a lot of cubes. What makes this game different is its focus: Antichamber was a puzzle game where the player had to adapt to the changing rules and properties of the game, while Manifold Garden's rules are more simple straightforward. Structures are infinitely duplicated on 6 axis, and the player can change what plane is considered the floor/which direction gravity is applied. The main levels are large, aesthetically pleasing structures that you have to explore on multiple planes to solve.

Manifold Garden fills me with more dread than typical horror media. Horror usually relies on the hidden and unexpected: monsters lurking in the darkness, unpredictable and sinister thoughts and behaviors. These things elicit fear because they cannot be easily perceived. While the visuals of this game are bright, simple, and clear, it is difficult for humans to comprehend the scale of infinity. This is the unique strength of this game. Portal is a puzzle game about connecting two points in space, Superliminal is a puzzle game about depth and perspective, Antichamber is a puzzle game about non-Euclidean space, Manifold Garden is a puzzle game about infinity. It explores a unique concept, and it does so beautifully.

Wow.

I'm struggling to put this experience into words.

As someone who is not usually a fan of art house games, I didn't expect to like Manifold Garden, but it really blew me away.

It's a trippy game, but it isn't trippy for the sake of being trippy. Every color, puzzle, and object works perfectly in an intricate system that seeks to fill you with awe and draw you in.

The use of non-euclidian space is really breathtaking, it makes the world look and feel grand and incomprehensible. Playing this game felt like watching 2001 a space odyssey for the first time again.

Manifold Garden had one of the biggest emotional impacts on me out of the games I've played, and managed to do so without any story or dialogue.

8.5/10

I should preface this by saying Antichamber is one of my favourite games of all time, so it's difficult for me not to make comparisons with something as outwardly as similar as Manifold Garden. That being said, these are not similar games, despite what appearances suggest.

The design is art. There is absolutely no other way to encapsulate it; this game is about the incredible splendor provided by a flat textured but exceptionally colourful labyrinthine experience, that will break your brain if you try to take parts of it in all at once. It uses colours in a simple but superbly effective manor, deeply contrasted against the colourless main stage.

The visuals are always changing, constantly presenting new ideas that will perpetually make you say 'wow' out loud. The puzzles however can tend to suffer from the same issue, mechanics are introduced and then barely used to 10% of their potential. Where games like Antichamber take mechanics beyond the scope of what you could imagine possible, Manifold Garden focuses more on the exploration side, with most of my time spent walking around picking up and relocating the pieces required for the solution as opposed to actually solving it.

The soundtrack is exceptional, with just the right amount of ethereal beauty but layered with quiet undertones to make sure they don't wear out. Due to the non-euclidean nature of the game there were times I'd accidentally find the exact point where the music game triggers were set over and over creating a break in the immersion, but these were rare enough they weren't a problem.

Overall, this is truly an experience I would recommend to anyone, and one that will stick with me for a while. The puzzles were incredibly simple and sometimes a bit drawn out, but the main selling point of this game to me is the atmosphere, the design, and the sheer majesty of the visuals. Must have for anyone who likes this genre.

There’s a small selection of games out there that I just love being in. I’m not talking about enjoying the challenges or the gameplay, I mean I love loading up the game and simply wandering around in it. Games need a special aesthetic or atmosphere to draw me in like that, and among this unique subset of games, Manifold Garden may be my favorite. I’m a sucker for fantastical vistas and clever architecture to begin with, and offering that within the context of the sprawling infinite should make it obvious why I connected with this one so much. Mixed with the solid puzzling, it’s an experience that more people need to share.

The story in Manifold Garden is very much open to interpretation, so I’m not going to try guiding your thoughts on it with my own suppositions. Instead, I’ll just mention that there are six colors from which a grand garden can be cultivated, and it’s up to you to make that happen. Making that happen involves navigating vast structures hanging in an infinite, repeating world, one that you can fall through indefinitely until you get bored and decide to land back on an iteration of the level. Adding to this mind-bending premise is the ability to flip your own gravity to align with any of the six directions that comprise the cubular architecture, allowing you to wrap around towers and explore the undersides of walkways, to name only a few of the incredible possibilities open to you.

So there’s the infinite, and the ability to scamper all over or fall through it while orientated however you like. What’s one to do with such powers? Well, besides taking in the breathtaking scenery from all angles, you do have a garden to grow. Throughout the world of Manifold Garden you will find blocks of six different colors, and those blocks can be used for a wide variety of purposes, from opening doors to forming platforms to directing water, and so on. The trick is that these blocks have their own gravitational alignment as well, and you can only interact with them while aligned the same way. This, again, expands the puzzling possibilities as you start mixing different colors of blocks and working out how to get one to one place while the others are frozen in their alignments. The game does an excellent job of easing you into this mindset, and continues to do so as it adds more and more twists on the formula, but it does get devious in some parts that can leave you scrambling for some time.

While there is certainly more ambitious gameplay to be found in this surreal genre of puzzler, I can think of few games that can match the visual flair that Manifold Garden has. The spectacle of a massive complex of chambers, windows, and platforms hanging in space, surrounded by an infinite field of itself repeated, never gets old. Every area feels so much more massive, so much greater in scope, than any other first-person game I can think of. And the simple color schemes give the aesthetic an even bolder look, drawing the eyes towards the shapes and details that comprise every structure. What’s even more impressive is how every few areas, the game manages to surprise you yet again with what it offers visually. I knew about the infinite staircases shown above long before I reached them, yet the experience of being there and navigating them still knocked me off my feet.

Really, with visuals like these and clever puzzles dotted throughout, there’s not much more you can ask for. It’s a tight package, offering about 4 hours of infinite journeying before concluding in a way that was fitting, if not particularly revelatory. There are certainly secrets to find, and in fact there’s apparently a way to complete the game without doing any of the key tasks for each of the areas you end up in, so the replay value is there for intrepid types. Tied up with some excellent minimalist sound design, Manifold Garden is exactly what it sets out to do, and it does it incredibly well. As good as the gameplay part of this game is, it’s the experience of touching the infinite that makes this what it is, and it’s an experience I can whole-heartedly recommend.

Was a Fun M.C Escher style puzzle game. I would suggest turning down the Sound Effects and Music. They can give you a headache after awhile.
Things of note:
The EPILEPSY WARNING IS WELL FOUNDED. You have been warned!
If you achievement hunt:
God Cubes are the Black cubes with Rainbows in them that turn the world dark. Picking them up doesn't effect the achievements; just putting them on the pedestals.
There are at least 2 endings.

Good luck at Puzzling!

This game is cool. I had fun falling around the level geometry in pretty much every room, especially after
i discovered there are secret side paths hidden in some levels (funnily enough, i accidentally completely skipped the green god cube because of one of them)
. As far as puzzle games go though, it is disappointing. It feels like the developers ran out of ideas in the first half. In the second half of the game i spent a lot of time falling around trying to find more parts to the puzzles because i was expecting the puzzles to actually get harder as the game went on, except they didn't. A couple times a new mechanic was introduced, used once, then never used again until hours later in the finale.

Did i enjoy this game? Yeah. the built in photo-mode is great. Give it a go, if you think the game-play physics will blow your mind, like it blew mine, then play it. Even if the puzzles don't meet your (or my) standards, you will probably have fun falling your way through the level geometry for all 10 hours of a playthrough like i did.

Fantastically crafted game! The mechanics do a good job of ramping up without the puzzles themselves getting too difficult. I never spent an hour going in circles on the same puzzle and never had to look anything up. However, I do think the last 2 sections (purple and orange) were a bit too easy.

Even if the puzzles could be more challenging, the level design, visuals, and music really elevate this game and make it something special. I highly recommend it for anyone that likes puzzle games.

Started exploring levels thoroughly from the very beginning, found a few hidden doors here and there, then wandered off the main course and proceeded to solve areas in a different order.
After solving my 3rd world walked into the next one, looked at it, decided to turn back and explore other places. Solved some other world and found myself back where I was some time ago. And then got completely lost and started walking in cirlcles for the next like 2 hours just looking for an entrance into the next world (one that I've seen and decided to leave for later). Felt very stupid later when I figured it out.
Because thanks to a few hidden doors locked from the other sides (or with a cube sockets I didn't have cubes for) I still thought I'm either missing something obvious, like some puzzle that I'm not seeing or another hidden path way that I need to look for harder. Turns out I'm just forgetful.

That's been my experience.
Maybe don't step away from the happy path on your first playthrough.

The game is great. It's very polished, it runs smoothly and plays amazing. The scenery is beautiful.

A few rooms in the end segment of the game are a little scuffed on the outer edges but there a lot of those so maybe QA overlooked it. In both cases geometry starts to overlap with itself and that produces either more staircases than intended, some of which start leading into the wals or resulting in a stairs that have no collision. I guess they didn't expect anyone to actually walk some of these infinte staircases.
And I've also seen a few times phantom geometry of the other location rendered in one big area if you zoom through it. But those are really minor issues. The game is polished as hell and leaves a very good impression.

You should play it

It's hard to put my finger on exactly why I dislike this game as much as I do. For context, I love puzzle games, and walking simulators. Portal 1/2 and The Stanley Parable are some of my favourite games of all time, and another favourite is Monument Valley (on IOS, but SO much better than this - seriously) which I suspect this game was partially inspired by.

Maybe the problem is that aside from the nice visuals, this one is really lacking in substance.

The spaces are big and often infinitely repeating, which is cool - but they feel really lifeless. Navigation is a real slog and feels confusing in a not-fun (as opposed to wonder-filled) way. You sort of float along, and it takes ages to reach anywhere, and everything's so big and empty there's no reference point of how fast you're even walking. No headbob, no jump button to fool around with - literally just walking (and falling).

There's graphical glitches from time to time, and sometimes I 'died' somehow without any real explanation of what caused it. I guess sometimes you can fall too far? The game also forgot my progress on a section a few times when I had to put it down.

The biggest failing of Manifold Garden is it doesn't really have good puzzle design. Compare it to Portal: Portal introduces mechanics and then slowly, methodically introduces iterations that allow you to be challenged but not frustrated, before putting everything together for complex but fully comprehensible grand finales. This game's puzzle design feels amateurish in comparison, and either abandons its mechanics before they become compelling or skips to the convoluted bit without any of the natural progression you're supposed to do beforehand.

Lots of the puzzle solutions also really feel like exploits, because the rules of the game are so murkily defined, it feels like you're in this unfinished tech-demo/test level where you're half-breaking the game and the designer hasn't really thought about what you can or might do. When you solve a puzzle you often don't know if you were even supposed to do it that way but the game lets you progress anyway.

Really unsatisfying, depressingly unfinished feeling and ultimately a giant disappointment.

Manifold Garden is one of the most innovative abstract puzzle adventure I have ever played. Many other games attempted to generate levels that geometrically loops into themselves, but this is the first and only game I played where it is achieved in full 3D. This looping or wrapping aspect is very difficult to put into words, you need to play it yourself to see how it works. The most amazing aspect of the game is, it feels and looks like it would be too frustrating or difficult to play, but the designer successed at making the gameplay manageable. Puzzles are not very difficult, but because of the visuals, looping and gravity shifting you feel amazing when you solve them. Congrats to the designer for pulling this off. Plus, minimalist style of visuals and sound design works in great harmony with game's style. Highly recommended if you are looking for an original puzzle game. Score: 9/10

Infinity is terrifying. If you get lost, you might never find your way home. Manifold garden teaches you not to fear infinity. It must be to some extent a mild cure for agoraphobia. You will see, experience, live, and use the principle that in any natural place large enough, there will tend to be recurring patterns, and if you know those patterns there's a sense in which you know every place you will visit here, you never truly leave home, and you are part of those patterns, your counterparts are strewn across the infinity infinite times, even if you cannot see them, you too are infinite, you will naturalise in infinity.

It's a beautiful experience.

The puzzles are pretty good too. I really appreciate how most of the puzzle components contribute positively to the atmosphere of the locations.

To me, this was a fantastic visual poem expressing the beauty of some fairly complex mathematics - and it was sublime.
The colorful, surreal minimalism of the world, the art, the soundtrack and the sound design, they all come together so beautifully that it felt profound and a bit haunting in the best possible ways.
It was awe inspiring and I have no idea how this was done - but I am so, so glad and grateful that it was.
I highly recommend this game to anyone who has ever felt joy when arriving at an insight in math.
It is such a beautiful and profound piece of art.

Holy crap, this game is a visual spectacle! I was constantly impressed and amazed by what the developers pulled off. Sure, some of the puzzles might not be meaty or challenging, not to mention sometimes the difficulty comes from trying to find where the puzzle starts, but all in all, I greatly enjoyed my experience.

PS: If you're having some difficulty figuring out puzzles, try working the puzzle backwards. You may notice something you haven't before.

Very poor sense of direction, which is coming from somebody who loved Antichamber and is a huge fan of the puzzle genre. Somehow, the games linear nature works against itself and allows you to get more lost than you would if there were multiple paths. Once you hit a wall, you are stuck there until you realise you missed one small door or cube hidden on the underside of some far structure, which can get rather annoying after 20 minutes of flailing about. Incredible visuals and some interesting mechanics, but puzzles felt tedious and like a chore towards the end.

I have just finished the game at the time of writing this review. I think I am fairly seasoned with puzzle games, so if you have played a handful of them in your lifetime like I have, I would expect your play time to be around the same as mine.

This game is beautiful, challenging and exciting. My mouth was wide open for a majority of my playthrough due to how stunning and unique the landscapes and puzzles were. I absolutely adored the time I spent playing this and I wish I could go back in time to experience it for the first time again. This is an excellent game and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who enjoys great puzzle games.

Manifold Garden is a puzzle game inspired by, and faithful to, the artwork of M. C. Escher. It's similar to The Bridge, Disoriented and, to a lesser extent, Antichamber. What makes it truly unique are its awe-inspiring, infinitely-repeating worlds (achieved via seamless 3D world wrapping) and the clever use of portals to create the illusion of impossible architectures.

The key puzzle mechanic involves altering gravity / changing your orientation. The puzzles are fairly intuitive and rewarding, though the difficulty curve is more like a hill with some trivial puzzles towards the end, while the more difficult ones tended to be in the middle. There's nothing terribly demanding in terms of timed execution or precise movements, although some puzzles can get tedious, especially when a desired surface is not immediately within reach. The soundtrack is great, especially the majestic pieces that play upon entering certain worlds (plus the credits song is excellent).

Although it is a tad pricey given its short length (3-4 hours), Manifold Garden is an outstanding game that's well worth playing for all fans of the puzzle genre and/or aficionados of Escheresque architecture.

It's been a very satisfying journey and each delightful moment I've spent so far was filled with joy, wonder and outright awe.

Infinity has always fascinated me and so Manifold Garden is a dream come true. The puzzles are complex, intriguing and fun to solve. Whenever I got stuck, instead of getting frustrated and thinking there's some illogical design, I was curious to test the physics elements and ideas I had in mind, and upon solving the puzzles, the solutions have always been sensible so far. The sound design enhances key moments in a very effective way and it definitely hasn't gone unnoticed.

To call Manifold Garden anything less than a masterpiece would be insulting.

An enthralling Mobius/Tesseract inspired exercise in walking simulation. From the simple idea of gravity manipulation comes something truly exquisite, and the sound design undoubtedly plays a major part in the experience. Aside from the initial task of moving cubes/keys around, the extended mechanics are a grab bag. The particular mechanics may seem annoying, but the level, or rather, the room you're in, never does.

The kaleidoscopic psychedelia is a bit gratuitous, and the levels could arguably stand to be better organized in sequence, but every moment of this game looked and felt incredible, even and especially when I didn't know where to go next.

Is this a beautiful game with a great sound track and interesting puzzles? Absolutely! And, if you are a 'physics puzzler' who likes the idea of a larger-than-life Rubik's Cube, then this game is for you! It looks like a wonderful game that I just can't get my head around. I think the concept is one that you either embrace and love or fight until you scream in frustration. Evidently, I fall into the latter category.
It started out great for me. Once I got over my initial sense of motion sickness, I got through the' blue world' section and was feeling pretty good about my skills. Then, I ended up on a multi-layered structure with a ball rolling down seemingly infinite tubes activated by blocks of different colors. After several hours, I have not achieved anything but an exercise in free-fall and total confusion. I can't tell if I am making progress or not and each time I fall, I land with no sense of where I was previously. In short, I don't think my brain works on this level.
I love puzzles but the games I like tend to obey the laws of gravity (The Witness, The Talos Principle, The Turing Test, Escape Games). When gravity goes out the window and up is down and right is left, I am unable to reason my way out of the cube.
SO... I would recommend this game ONLY if you are one of those 'spatial' people who enjoys turning the world upside down, falling through infinite space, and watching a very imaginative world unfold. If you are like me (one of the more 'logical' or 'conceptual' problem solvers), then Manifold Garden is apt to be an experience that is high on head-banging and low on fun.

An added note - after taking some time off, I returned to Manifold Garden and, after 10+ hours, am beginning to get the gist of the game. It is a struggle for me but there is something oddly satisfying when I complete an area and am treated to a short (albeit virtual) psychedelic trip!

A final comment - I drank the Kool-Aid and played through to get 100% of the achievements. The final 'optional' section was very tricky but there is a great feeling of accomplishment having succeeded in spite of my own limitations.

Runs very smooth with no issues on Linux with Proton.

Very pretty and smart puzzler.

As others mention, it's a beautiful game. A word I'd like to add to this is terrific. As in, it begets terror. Some rooms or architecture give a certain Lovecraftian vibe, which gives the feeling of terror and/or insignificance. Keep in mind, there are no monsters or scary things in the game. It's as pretty and colorful as the trailers show.

If you love (mind-bending) puzzles, this is a must-have. Highly recommended!

10/10, unless you fear heights. Fortunately there's no fall damage.

Manifold Garden is visually stunning first-person puzzle game with simple ideas that come together to form some really interesting puzzles. The game is estimated to take about 6 hours, and that number seems about right. I am about 3 hours in and have about half of the achievements. (EDIT: Game completed after about 7.5 hours of play. A couple of puzzles really had me confused for a long time.)

The game mechanics are really neat but not hard to understand. You get to change the gravitational orientation and the world is infinitely linked. Because of this, you will be falling down to the tops of buildings, seeing water flowing in odd direction, and walking on sideways oriented stairs that will still get you where you need to go.

Undoubtedly, this game will pull your mind to the works of M. C. Escher. I also thought of the short stories The Library of Babel as well as The Garden of Branching Paths by Jorge Luis Borges. The visual and mental aesthetics within the game's vastly interconnected world of actually a finite space tread on the sublime.

There is no story. Playing on, you can definitely fashion one in your mind as you clear the first sets of puzzles and come to terms with the world and in general, what you have to do. The game does not need a story either.

The puzzles are not hard to figure out, but there are some different things you have to consider while doing them. Primarily you will be focusing on the gravitational shift as you change. By stumbling around a bit and getting completely disoriented, you will often stumble across the answers. There are some visually tricky situations as well. Once again, the puzzles are neat and fun, but not too hard.

Anyway, I hope that everyone who is not fearful of heights can experience this game. For those people, this could be a potential trigger, and I would not want to have a game set off a panic attack. There's no time limits on the puzzles, you can move around as much as you need to figure things out. There's such pleasing visuals and music accompanying the game that it's worthwhile for almost everyone to take a look.

Controls

Works well with Keyboard + Mouse. Controller also works fine. I used KB+M for this game.

Graphics

Absolutely stunning. If you look at the trailer, you will see right away why the game is so difficult for the mind to accept, because are are used to a different set of rules in the world. I will include a few screenshots here as well.

Music & Sounds

The soundtrack sounds really good. The sound effects are nice too. There are places when you move from one room to the next that the music abruptly cuts out without a smooth transition. This is the only bad thing I noticed about the music.

Audience

I have already stated, the game may cause problems for people who fear heights. Aside from that, I do not do well with games in first-person perspective, because I get nauseated and often an accompanying headache. This game did that for me as well, but I kept on restarting to try to tackle it a bit farther as soon as I could rest a little and feel better. It was pulling on me that much to keep going.

Pricing

Base price is $19.99, the launch sale has a 20% discount. Even though the game may be shorter than most for the price in general, it's worth your time and your money.

Conclusion

Manifold Garden treads on sublime, on the part of my mind that can do nothing but drop my jaws in wonder.

10/10, unless you fear heights. Fortunately there's no fall damage.

PROS:
+ Visually pleasing
+ Great soundtrack
+ A few new funky ideas
+ Fun while it lasted
+ No bugs, crashes or glitching

CONS:
- Very short, my playthrough took only 7 hours which included me snooping every corner, admiring every view and leaving my game running while doing chores. You could easily complete this in four hours or so. I'd consider waiting for a sale to get most bang for the buck
- Way too much walking, distances between puzzles are super long which I guess is to admire the graphics or make the game seem a little longer, but it gets very boring very fast
- Way too much pushing buttons to open doors. Why do I need to rotate myself around four dimensions and push a button every time I need to get through one single door that has nothing to do with any of the puzzles?
- Sometimes it was difficult to differentiate whether some structure was just a repeating pattern or if I was actually going somewhere. There are a lot of stairs to climb, some of them take you places, some of them don't
- Lots of colourful, fast changing visual stimulus so this might be too much for anyone suffering from migranes or epilepsy

Few other things to consider:
There is no story, like literally nothing. I think no story is better than a bad one, but I myself wanted at least some form of narrative to keep me interested. Also, if you're familiar with puzzle games in general, this game isn't going to be very challenging for you. Most of the puzzle mechanics involve placing cubes to unlock doors, so nothing too groundbreaking. All in all, this was an okay puzzle game, reminded me a lot of Lightroom in a sense that it offered a new twist to some good old puzzle mechanics. Manifold garden was fun to play but I'd recommend waiting for a sale.

Manifold Garden plays like an interactive art book rather than a dedicated puzzler (that is in many was a good thing). The concepts are intuitive and fun, without being bogged down by complexity of inputs or UI. The individual rooms are excellent, albeit a little simple at times, but always fun to solve and leave you wishing there was more. Although they are very different games, the Portal franchise does a great job of taking a mechanic to its limit, and really getting the player to use it in every way. Manifold Garden, in my opinion, will introduce a mechanic and then waltz on relatively quickly. In fairness though, each mechanic does make a reappearance in subsequent levels, though in similar puzzle complexity to its introduction. In addition, save for the Blue and Red worlds, the 6 first worlds feel quite short, and conclude before you can really get immersed in them. I would often be surprised to come across the end trigger so soon. The maps, however short, are gorgeous, and ultimately I prefer quality to quantity, which MG does far better than The Witness, another recent puzzle game. The final stage is exempt from my previous remarks, and was by far the best portion of the game, with very well developed rooms and puzzle solutions. If anything play the game for the end.

There is nothing to complain about from an art perspective. Visuals are simple yet stunning, music is excellent and sound design keeps each fall and gravity shift exciting. After reading the reviews before buying I picked up the Soundtrack DLC and do not regret it.

Overall Manifold Garden is a great casual puzzle experience, reminiscent of Monument Valley but with far more impact. It is accessible, creative, and was a joy to play. Serious puzzle game fans will finish it quickly, but I think it is a must play for anyone.

I have been waiting for this game for a long time and when it finally landed on Steam a year late, it was a day 1 buy in no questions asked. I finished it in a couple of days and it was worth every penny. I played this one off the back of finishing Antichamber and it might just be the perfect comedown game to that, The Witness, Portal or The Talos Principle. That hollow feeling I get when I say goodbye to an awesome game was nicely filled in by Manifold Garden and I’m here to tell you why.

PROS

mble. Manifold Garden knows what it is right from the very start, which is a very beautiful walk through an MC Escher-like world. And even though it is a unique puzzle game that holds its own, it is also a loveletter to the greats that came before it and most likely inspired it. There are even cheevos named “Witness the Laser” and “Now You’re Thinking with Portals.”

miliar but fresh. Sure it has light bridges from Portal, giant Tetris blocks, companion cubes and perspective shifts from Antichamber but they are all presented in a way that will make you say “oh, that’s clever” and they then become Manifold Garden’s property and are not just shamefully stolen from other puzzle games.

sy on the curves. I found the difficulty curve to be very fair in this game. I don’t think I was ever fully blocked on a puzzle even though when you first enter an area and see the size of it you might be daunted and let out a big sigh. Every new mechanic has a tutorial room to help you understand it. But make no mistake there will be a few areas where you will get stuck and the game is not without its challenges. You might even find that there is an entirely new playthrough waiting for you to unlock some seemingly impossible cheevos.

othing. Maybe it’s the music. Maybe it’s the way you can base jump into infinity and just fall forever on a constant loop. Maybe it’s the simple visuals and freedom of movement. There is just something so calming about Manifold Garden. There is no urgency. No countdown timers, no fail conditions, no threats. This game is pretty zen.

If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.” - Albert Einstein. The music and sounds in this game are….well without hyperbole….perfect. I couldn’t have asked for more. Every single in game sound has this very satisfying feeling. The music seems to swell as you are advancing things and feeds your excitement for puzzle solving. Aural excellence.

CONS

ory. I know. I can hear you now shouting “Not everything needs a story!” But for me it does. Otherwise I have to make one up. And if I was good at making up stories I would be writing them, not playing games on Steam. Manifold Garden is sorely lacking in the story department. It is not the kind of game where there are other NPCs to meet and there is really not much in the way for a vehicle for storytelling, verbal or otherwise. I was hoping for a solid ending to at least give me a sniff of a story but I got none.
A lot of people say the ending is amazing. I just think it was pretty.
aytime. It took me 9 hours to finish this. I gawk, I take screenshots, I just bask in the game I play that are good. If you are an objective focused, laser guided missile then expect a playtime of around half of mine and then you decide if the cost:time ratio works for you.

THE CONCLUSION

If walking along all 6 planes of a Rubik’s Cube and slotting smaller cubes into place whilst trying to overcome gravity and wrapping your head around Cartesian coordinates so you can base jump sideways falling up the z-axis sounds like fun then I would say….Buy This Game. Do it for the hypercubes that release all the little birdies.

6/10

This game has a super cool concept, and the puzzles are interesting. And honestly, it's gorgeous.

That said, my big gripe with the game is that every single puzzle seems to be an short introduction to a new mechanic. Each color area seems to consist of three puzzles to illustrate how a concept works, one actual puzzle to check you got the concept, and then it's on to the next area.

The whole game feels like the glued together introduction sections of a more fleshed out game. It either needed more puzzles, or fewer concepts. None of the (admittedly very cool) puzzle mechanics really have a chance to stretch their legs. And there were very few puzzles at all that used multiple concepts (beyond the core concepts of block goes on spot, room spins around)

Overall, super cool concept, beautiful art style (except the ending which looked kinda silly and out of place), but let down by a lack of interesting puzzles that really utilize the mechanics introduced in the game.

Wow what an amazingly produced game. First and foremost, this is a non-euclidean puzzle game that revolves around the perception of gravity. Due to its infinite scope, there is not a truly right direction or right way to solve puzzles. To solve puzzles within the game, you need to constantly change gravity to either get to your destination or to solve somewhat sophisticated puzzles. The floor that you currently reside on is the direction in which gravity is active. As of posting this review, I am not done with the game but will update this with the difficulty of the puzzles themselves.

This game takes what portal, fez, antichamber, the witness, monument valley, switchball, and talos principle do best. The puzzles are difficult but they won't stump you like the more advanced puzzles in the witness or talos principal. With enough thought or experience within the genre of these games, you should be able to solve the puzzles. Due to the nature of the games that inspired this one, I am lead to believe that there are some hidden easter eggs within this game that I will do my best to unravel. The levels themselves are extremely spacious yet easy to traverse. If you find that an objective is far away or you just want to get a better grasp from an outside view, you can change gravity in your favor and fall where you want to go or fall infinitely.

The graphics of this game are incredibly minimalistic, yet bolster an impressive fractal environment. You will see the space you occupy from all directions around you. At times it is rather disorienting and changing surfaces may cause motion sickness. Trying to purely understand the geometry that you are enveloped in is enough to give you an aneurysm. The sheer amount of thought that went into producing and creating such a design must have been insanely difficult to accomplish.

Although everything so far has been great, nothing compares to the soundtrack. The sound design for Manifold Garden is impeccable! It really emphasizes the sheer vastness of the environments you are in while also driving you forward to your next destination. It doesn't scare, stress, or enforce the player to finish the game quickly. The serenity and peacefulness that it creates makes exploration seem less of a task and more curiosity.

I have two major complaints about this game. If you easily get motion sickness, I would not recommend playing this game. The constant changing from surface to surface while trying to comprehend the surface you were just on is difficult to stomach. Many directions you look will be disorienting and you sometimes won't be able to tell which direction you are truly going. The next complaint is a spoiler:
When you get to the part where the giant sized tetris blocks are falling, the blocks lose velocity and you won't fall with them if you stand on top. I imagine this is due to limitations on the game engine and the fact that it has to recursively generate such a huge object.
I give Manifold Garden a 8.5/10. An amazing puzzle game, however due to the level of motion sickness I received while playing I can't rate it more than an 8.5. I also expected much harder puzzles but this is a personal preference. I liked the difficulty of The Witness and The Talos Principle more. This game leads to more sense of quicker progression while those 2 games are geared more towards gradual satisfaction. Definitely worth the $20 ($15 on sale).

I bought this game because I love puzzles. I was interested in the game because of its aesthetics, mostly its similarities with the game Antichamber. This is a fun, interesting, even challenging puzzle games, but it does not feel unfair. Some puzzle games have this mentality that they want to beat the player. The solution is so convoluted and unrealistic that it isn't fun. This is not one of those games. This game won't really hold your hand, but it doesn't throw you off a cliff either. This is a well crafted, fun puzzle game.

That being said, get it on sale. I got it for $16, the opening sale price, but I would have preferred a $8-10 tag. It is just a little too short for it to be worth 20, even 15 dollars. Keep this one on your wishlist for a little bit.
