1. Die Kämpfe sind nur zum Nebenvertreib

The video (music/audio), background picture and characters data were separated. When the game was started, the system needed to combine and then present above data to the players.
However, the software/patch data or the system was actually not yet modified and hence different data crashing occurred (or played in different timelines).
As a result, some PC, even with high performance GPU/hardware such as RTX 3060TI, would unable to play the movie on time (e.g. Opening Movie can hear the sound but very slow in movie motion) or would be suffering from very lag in game (e.g. character motions became very lag at times).
I have tried on different PCs with GTX 1660 Super and RTX 3060TI but the problem still exists and it seems unable to be solved by normal PC players.
I hope the update can solve the problem in future.

Unfortunately, the framerate and input lag are abysmal. Things that are smooth on the PS1 stutter on the desktop. Combos don't go through because of the input lag (or actions are simply dropped entirely) and the sprites occasionally jump around the screen with a non-trivial number of dropped frames.
I've chosen to refund the game. This was not an easy choice, because I enjoyed it a lot on the PS1. It's unique and has a lot more to it than you first see on the surface. Unfortunately, the game just isn't enjoyable to play with the framerate and input lag issues.

Honestly, the new art, while pretty, does make the character sprites, which don't appear to have been updated at all, stick out like sore thumbs.
That said, it's nice to have this game on a modern system that isn't using the kind of jank emulation the old Legend of Mana you could buy on PSN used that led to painfully long load times. Now, all the load times are relatively quick, leading to a much smoother experience.
If you're unfamiliar with Legend of Mana, it's actually the fourth game from the Seiken Densetsu/Mana series, though it's a spinoff rather than mainline title. It takes a of elements and themes of these games and shoves them into a sort of free-form world-building experience without any real storyline or main direction.
If you're looking for a more traditional JRPG Seiken Densestu experience, then you can find the phenomenally lovingly remade version of Seiken Denstsu 3: Trails of Mana here, which is actually a personal favorite of mine as far as RPGs go:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/924980/Trials_of_Mana/
(Don't worry about it being the third game. Much like the Final Fantasy series, the games in the series are pretty much entirely standalone)
That's not to say that Legend of Mana doesn't have storylines in it, it does, but none of them can really be called the main plot. Your character just takes part in major events and adventures as he or she sort of pieces together the world from artifacts.
Speaking of which, the artifact system was something I was never really clear on. As far as I know, you're rebuilding the world, piece-by-piece, with artifacts you find by adventuring. The thing is, nobody but you seems to be impacted by this. Nobody acknowledges that new lands and locations are seemingly popping out of thin air, and you'll repeatedly meet recurring characters around the world as you adventure, so it's not as if they're not out and about in these different locations. It makes it sort of seem like you're simply exploring the world as guided by artifacts, leading you to places, rather than remaking the world. Not that I really mind if that were the case, since it just makes more sense with the way nobody acknowledges the world coming back together piece-by-piece, and it doesn't really change the charm of the adventure either way.
In any case, the game can almost be considered an open world adventure with a multitude of side quests to experience, except that your path is somewhat guided by what artifacts you get by visiting locations and beating quests. Usually these will award you with more than one, so there's not really a set path, but you can't just go literally anywhere in the world from the beginning of the game, because most of the world doesn't exist (at least to you) without getting and placing down artifacts.
Regardless of the meaning of the artifact system to the world itself, it makes for a fun, relatively free-form, adventure in a charming and magical world.
That said, the game is clunky. The combat has you scooting around for movement, rather than smoothly walking or running around the field. You may be familiar with this if you played the old Mana RPGs on the SNES. That said, this is done on a sort of side-view plane like a beat 'em up, rather than a top-down view, which makes lining up attacks (literally) somewhat more difficult than it probably should be. Furthermore, combat is super simple. You have abilities, special techniques, magic, light attacks, and heavy attacks. This sounds like it would give a decent amount of variety, and it probably can but you don't really need anything other than light attacks.
So, here's the thing about combat: Light attacks, if you mash them, come out in a short combo string that has a decently long recovery after you finish the combo, but that's only if you mash. By rhythmically tapping the light attack button to match you rhythm of your attacks, you can simply repeat attacking forever with no recovery time. I'm not sure if this was an intended mechanic (I never bothered to look it up, honestly) since it encourages you to not mash, making things mechanically more precise, but it also means you can pretty much totally lock down enemies just by basic attacking forever. This includes bosses. Unless the enemy pulls out invincibility frames for special phases or abilities, you can pretty easily keep them flinchlocked forever. The only thing stopping you from doing this usually is that basic attacks don't hit multiple enemies, so groups of enemies can beat you over the head as you bully one of them.
Light attacks aside, abilities let you do things like block, dodge, counter, dash, and so on. Special techniques can be thought of as ultimate attacks that can be unleashed when you build meter from basic attacks (which doesn't take long). Magic is from buying magic instruments that can be used indefinitely and with no resource cost of any kind, but spells have charge time, and you can be interrupted during the charge. All this stuff is pretty fun, and you can use these for AoE to make quick work of groups of enemies, but for the most part, the combat isn't particularly technical enough to actually call for using these.
Aside from the combat, Legend of Mana has a pet raising mechanic, where you can find monster eggs (or in specific instaces, just monsters) that you can recruit, and level. These can apparently be used in a minigame that was never in the localized version of the game before (I haven't tried it yet in this version). Raising these involves feeding them and taking them with a variety of foods, that I'm sure has some sort of effect based on the food types, but I've never really dug deep into the system. You can also take your monster companions out on adventures, and they can act as a third party member, aside from whatever humanoid companion you may be running with.
Furthermore, there's a complex free-form weapon crafting system that I don't recall ever digging into, but from my understanding, it's incredibly convoluted, so if that's your thing, it's there. Once you unlock it through a certain quest, that is.
Really, what enchanted me so much two decades ago playing this game on the PSX is the same thing that has be liking it now. The art, music, and world are just incredibly enchanting and magical. It's just a fun world to run around and adventure in. Technically, the gameplay systems serviceable, but aren't all that strong, but Legend of Mana has drawn me back repeatedly over the years on the strength of just how magical the game manages to feel.

It can be challenging but learning to craft gear that is 10x the strength to beat content that felt impossible before is satisfying. You also need to be pretty decent at the actual combat, unlocking and equipping strong abilities and understanding how they work. With over 300 of those, that's a whole additional layer of complexity and fun.
Then there's raising pets - their food buffs their stats and you can feed 3 per level. Did I mention you'll be growing all of that food yourself?
Tldr if you enjoy peeling back layers upon layers to collect all the things or defeat harder modes or 100% the game, I think you'll enjoy it a lot. And having an appreciation for cute but wacky designs and plot is a bonus.

This Legend of Mana is remaster of the original PS1 release.
Legend of Mana is different from other Mana game as it didn't have a clear path of goal, instead you have to explore the story from one to another to finally reach the end, your character is silent protagonist, he or she doesn't have a backstory so he or she is represented as you the player.
What special about Legend of mana is the unique world building and character, adventure the story through one to another slowly and find artifact put the place whatever you like(well unless you want 100% the game then mana value matter).
Combat is still the good old PS1 didn't get any touch up so it kinda slow pace that some people might not like it as modern action game are all fast pace hack & slash.
Pet is you combat partner and have fun looking for pet you like. although they are monster with different color.
Crafting and Golem is very complex system that you either trial and error to look for good combination or just find a list online for it, but the fun part is discover it on your own.

There's a lot of reasons, why you should in fact, not.
Combat felt very, very clunky and I couldn't figure out what the deal was. Lots blame Denuvo, but regardless of what it is, it's unacceptable once you realize how vastly superior the original PS1 was. Far faster and smoother in every single way. Compare for yourself with literally any video of a battle between the two versions.
Art style is inconsistent. Backgrounds got a brand new look to them, while the characters are still exactly the same from the PS1. I realize this is a petty, mileage may vary reason to nitpick, but everything adds up to an inferior experience. The PS1 version, again, is superior simply because everything looks like it belongs in the game. Show a screenshot of the remake to anyone without context, ask what they think.
Anybody attempting to try this game brand new without having played the original, because retro gaming? Be aware this game is notoriously vague. About everything. What do items do? How does crafting work? Basic information is simply not going to be given to you, let alone exact stats being affected. If you want to actually experiment with just about everything the game wants you to fiddle with in your home base? You need a guide. If you want to complete quests without running thru every single area in the game talking to everyone every time you get a quest, get a guide or waste your time. Leveling up your party members is needlessly hard because you have to pick up the XP crystals. You cannot herd your party to them, you simply have to hope they stumble over them.
Stick with the original. I want to like your work on PC Square-Enix, but this amateur level work from one of the top gaming companies in Japan is downright shameful.

Many people are turned off by the fragmented narrative, and if that's you, that's okay. If you're on the fence about it, keep in mind that all the stories (not necessarily each individual quest) build on similar themes. Pay close attention to that opening text from the Mana Tree and remember that love, imagination, and the magic of the mundane is what makes the world special. And that holds true whether we're talking about the world of Fa'Diel or our own.

How does this compare with emulating the 20 year old playstation original? The emulated version is better.
In all honesty I purchased this in the hopes that the modding community will one day turn this into the definitive version fo the game. As it stands, it's no Sage Frontier Remastered (which I wholeheartedly recommend).

If you haven't played this title before and enjoy old school JRPG I think there is room for you to enjoy this game also

Today i will review the game Legend of Mana. This is a remaster of the original, so do not expect a whole new game. They added some new graphical enhancements and a bonus mini game to the game. Everything else is the same as the orignal game. The game has beautiful graphics and new music for each section. All the same quests are still in the game, and the make your own world is still the same. Anyways, here is my pro/con list:
PROS:
- Beautiful graphics and new music.
- Rematered.
- Lots of quests.
- Interesting characters and quests.
- Good controller support.
- Co-Op gaming.
CONS:
- The game crashed my whole pc. I did put the game into windowed mode, and did not crash after this issue.
- There is some lag in some sections. Other people have reported lag in different sections of the game also.
It maybe prudent to wait for a fixing patch to fix the lag and crashing issues. Other than this, i can recommend this game as a great remaster of the game from PS1. The new musical scores of each area are great, and the graphical design updates are also very good. In case you want to, you can even play the original music in the settings of the game.
NOTE: I did not personally test the co-op part of the game, but i believe it is done very well for this game.

However, with that said! There's zero point in purchasing this version at the current time, considering the fact you can't *actually* play it. And at a $30 price tag, I would expect to be able to play a twenty year old game flawlessly. Once this issue is fixed, however, I would have no problem buying it myself - but I don't see that problem being fixed. So, instead, I'll simply emulate the original and properly enjoy my time; which is what I recommend to others.

In addition to that you are now able to skip encounters which is a life-saver for quests where you can easily get lost in the maze.
I would recommend this PC port if it were not for:
1. The slowdown issues. If you play on Windows, there is a high chance (some claim they do not have issues) that you will randomly get FPS drops. This is much more noticeable at certain arrangements of the map, when casting spells or using special techniques. (On Linux you do not get this issue via Proton BUT you will experience random crashes instead)
2. Square-enix's lack of communication to these complaints since Day 1
3. Presence of Denuvo (which some speculate as the real culprit of the slowdown). Although some say its not the real issue but something else, one thing is for sure, because of Denuvo, if you play this game on a Windows Virtual machine, you will not be able to view the cutscenes!
If you really want this remaster, I suggest you buy the Switch or Playstation 4 version instead as people reported they do not seem to experience the issue in there.

I'm glad Steam has a refund policy...
It was all good for the intro, walking around the first town and whatnot but at the first enemy encounter the fighting gets so choppy you might as well just be button mashing. It's somehow WORSE in that sense than the original was... HOW?! This game is over 20 years old! Very disappointed...

Pros
-Beautiful hand drawn backgrounds
-Exceptional Music (you can choose between the original music or the new arrangements)
-Egg collecting and pet raising
-Golem creation and customization
-Very basic farming mechanics where you choose various seeds and come back later to harvest
-Complex crafting. You can make Armor, Weapons, accessories, and Instruments.
-Tons of skills that can be mixed and matched to your play style.
-The land placement system can make each playthrough different! (Completionists will hate this)
-Since this game was originally out during the era of gameFAQS guides and walkthroughs, you can look up almost anything and get answers because people have had YEARS to work on compiling data on this game. (I highly recommend Legendofmana.info for getting all the events in one playthrough)
-DUDBEARS!
Cons
-The complex crafting system can be too complex at times as there are HUNDREDS of items and interactions and it can feel like a trial and error process at times.
-The sprites were slightly cleaned up but stand out a lot against the redone backgrounds. I don't mind it but some people hate it.
-The battling system did not get updated, it was clunky 20 years ago and it seems much worse now that we are used to games that are very refined and smooth moving.
-It is extremely hard to 100% all events and storylines without a guide or walkthrough. The land placement system can be a blessing and a curse because each land has its own Mana values that effect the lands around them, More often than not you need a specific mana combination to unlock events. Putting things in the wrong place can lead to events not triggering.
-Li'l Cactus Diary, Anytime I want to 100% all the entries the little Sh** runs off and I miss ONE entry because of him. The only way to not miss all entries is by following an Event Walkthrough TO THE LETTER (which can take some of the fun out of the game), So do not bother with Li'l Cactus unless you are going for a 100% playthrough.
Overall I Highly recommend this game,
If you have played the original version and hated it, you will still hate it because it is the same game.. DUH
Now I am going to show you how multiplayer WITH A NORMAL CHARACTER can be done.
But first some background,
This game was originally saved on Memory Cards, so if two people wanted to play, the system would use both players Memory Cards and access the Game info for Player 1 and then pull the Player 2 info from the second memory card (or a separate save file from one Memory Card) to make the Player 2 character.
They have not changed that mechanic to be more user friendly. So here is how it will work on the remaster.
1. You need 2 unique save files on the Player 1 computer. 1 file will be the Player 1 main game and save. The second file is a second game that was started will end up being the character that Player 2 will use and should be played a few events in so that you can customize armor, weapons and skills. You will NOT be able to change weapons or skills when in multiplayer mode so try to equip a weapon that Player 2 likes. I recommend using whatever sprite the main file is NOT using that way there is less confusion between the two sprites. Save both files and make sure they have different names.
2. Load up the Main Save and then go in to your steam overlay and invite whoever is going to be your Player2 to remote play with you. They wont be able to play until you do step 4,
3. Go to DOMINA and talk to the priest in the church (top right screen in Domina) and he will eventually start talking about game mechanics. Find the option where he mentions 2 player, He will mention an abandoned house that is in the first screen in Domina. Once he mentions the abandoned house 2 player mode will be activated on the save you are using and you will only need to speak to him again on other Brand New Saves.
4. Go to the first screen in Domina and locate the abandoned house (top of the screen) knock on the door and it will pull up Player 1 save files. Choose the file that you made earlier for your friend and now they can play!
Here are some important things about 2 player mode.
** If try to enter your HOME, Player 2 will leave, you can go back to Domina and pick them up again.
**Player 2 will also leave if you have to escort an NPC through an event but Player 2 can still control them, once the event is done you can go back to Domina and pick up Player 2.
**Gear and skills can not be changed while in 2 Player mode so in order to keep them with the newest gear you need to open the second save and change things from there.
**Player 2 will keep the Exp and levels that they earned.
I hope this helps some people out.
Happy Gaming!
