  • Untote Feinde warten: Diesmal steht Lara Croft ganzen Horden untoter Gegner gegenüber.

To be honest, no idea how well it works alone but in (local) multiplayer, it's amazing! Evokes memories of Lost Vikings, with each player having distinct abilites the puzzles are laid out for. Combat works fine and there's just something about flics about ancient temples that ever so sticks.

I consider Tomb Raider one of the most well made franchises. It doesn't have a perfect catalogue of games, but it's pretty damn close. This is another one of their masterpieces. It's called Lara Croft, as opposed to Tomb Raider, because it's a spinoff from the main series of Tomb Raider games, therefore expect very different gameplay mechanics. This focuses more heavily on gunplay and adrenaline fuelled action, but also contains lots of fun puzzles. The graphics are beautiful and, being a 10+ year old game, have aged exceptionally well.

Well that's the gist of it, it's a fun, action packed puzzle game with excellent graphics. Highly recommended!

MY RATING: ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ✘ ✘ ✘ ✘ 6 / 10

The game is a must for Tomb Raider fans.

I played the title on the console years ago, and this time it was again a nice change with a not so big scope. From time to time I like the slightly shortened games for in between.

I think, no matter which Tomb Raider it is, the games are always implemented in a terrific way and perfectly balanced. Even the very old Tomb Raider games that were groundbreaking for the time.
They do their job extremely well. Can’t be said otherwise.

In the 14 different levels you have no open game world or great freedom because the paths are relatively prescribed.
Away from the numerous opponents, the game offers, as always, varied levels and puzzles. From sliding to falling puzzles, everything is included here, even if they are not that demanding. But it is absolutely fine.

MY PROS AND CONS:

✅ great backdrop
✅ good checkpoints
✅ many puzzles

❌ not a real story
❌ sometimes overview problems

PLAYED WITH: ???? ????

The Guardian of the light is a top-down isometric Tomb-Raider game, it supports co-op and that's probably the way to play it.

The levels and the guns are the highlights of this game, every level has its own collections and mini-challenges that add some flavor and more depth to the game. It's fun, I found, to explore the maps and find collectibles that give you special items as power-ups, etc., when you collect them and you get the same when you finish the mini-challenges. Also, during your exploration to find the collectibles and perhaps to refill your ammo or heal, you will run across small, optional challenge levels which are nice, except when they are too obscure for one to figure out the end goal, which didn't happen often luckily.

Lara, and her ally, Totec, take on a mission on behalf of humanity to stop and re-imprison an evil being that got set free, which intends on destroying everything and taking revenge on everything he can lay his hands on.
The presentation wasn't that impressive nor was the story, but of course, this game isn't to be played for the story but rather for the gameplay itself, for the puzzle, for the cooperative nature of it, or perhaps, to collect the 10 red skulls.

definitely better than the temple of Osiris but the last levels are practically the same as the firsts.

the puzzles are basic as simple as the solutions to continue the levels both in solo and in duo/coop, but until when finish e go on give a lot of satisfaction.
The fight after 4-5 hours already starts to get boring. ( too much spammer/hach & slash )

'Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light' is one of the best Tomb Raider games I have ever played.

I had fun with this one from the moment the 1st level loaded all the way through to the final boss. The controls are smooth, the action is intense, and exploration is abundant. I completed all challenges and wished there were more by the time all was said and done. 'Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light' moves as fast or as slow as you can handle. Enjoy slow exploration or run full tilt while laying waste to any enemy daring to get in your way. I recommend playing the game on hard difficulty for everything except the time challenges for maximum enjoyment. If you don't like combat much, put the game on easy. There will be fewer enemies, and they can be taken down in short order.

Some may not like how the game becomes too easy as Lara becomes superpowered, but not me. I earned the right to demolish all enemies and Xolotl. If you want to be outgunned, don't equip any relics and use your weakest weapons; and what a choice of weaponry. Outside of Darth Sidious' 'Force Lightning,' Lara is armed to the teeth. The Golden Shotgun, Flamethrower, Chaingun, and Rocket Launcher are my favorites.

A fantastic game!

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light features an isometric vision with countless puzzles and simple gameplay. The mechanics overwhelm the weak graphics, and the narrative arc is not the best and could have been worked on much more.

In conclusion, this is a game that stands out for its gameplay and will be a pleasant addition to any gamer's library.

First playthrough review time.

Completed the game in hard mode and collected all secrets, weapons and relics in the game.Nice spin-off of the franchise with isometric view gameplay. There is good replayability of the levels in order to complete the challenges and especially time trials for each level.Few score challenges and speed run for each level need practice which depends upon individual(for 100% completion).

In the co-op mode there are few changes in each level where some traps or puzzles are not same as in single player mode where two players should have coordination to crack the level. There are many different weapons which cannot be seen even in previous series of the franchise and player can obtain artifacts and relics not only as collectables but also to increase their ability.

As much as I enjoy seeing Lara playing with huge balls on almost every level the game is simply too short and too repetitive besides the puzzles. It can be finished in around 4-5 hours assuming you pass on collecting everything.

The controls and combat is kinda trash because there's no hud indicator where you can see the bullet's trajectory. This is because ranged combat is initiated with right-analog stick and triggered with the right bumper. A simple laser attachment on the gun would make a huge difference.

I'm not even sure why the devs decided on ammo capacity upgrades since the ammo regen on some relics are overpowered to the point where the regen is so fast that ammo is practically infinite.

And how does everyone except for Lara know how to speak English, I mean these guys have been static for thousands of years???

TR Marathon now carries me on a journey into the Spin-off series of Lara Croft. LCGOL is a lot like other top down shooters, kinda reminds me of Nine Parchments of the Trine Series. Very fluent in action and control, a nice story to tell and some dramatic cut scenes, the puzzles are really fun, and even the battle are much more fun than the original TR series. There really isn't much to hate about this spin-off other than it's not doing the original 3rd person but rather an isometric top down. But that solves the shaking camera problem of the original and really, the smoothness in the controls making fast paced actions really fun, Lara can go from one action to another without pausing. And the puzzles are probably way better than the original series. There's everything to love and not much to hate about this one. They even have 2 players co-op, so we can play the game with a friend. The DLCs, although like all TR's add-ons.. are super short and pretty much a rip-off with the pricing, the character packs are just a reskin and modified cut-scenes with the rest of the stages exactly the same... yet... the character packs might be worth it for those who have nostalgia for that 2 games, they turn out pretty funny in someway... and actually has a better ending than Lara's version. ;)

If you like the Trine series, especially Nine Parchments or Shadowgrounds series from
Frozenbyte, you will surely like this game, even when you don't have any knowledge about the TR main series, you can still fully enjoy this one. Recommended!

My playtime: 13.6h (based on Steam, 100% achievement)
Grindy Achievement(s): No.
Optional Achievement(s): Yes (10 achievements).
Difficult Achievement(s): No.

Intro

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is an adventure game with puzzles and shooters as its focus. You have to control Lara to navigate through the ruins, collecting all collectibles and killing all enemies in between. It also has co-op support, but since I finished the campaign through the single-player mode, my review will be based on that.

Pros:
- 3 difficulties
- 14 levels with 4 boss fights
- Tricky puzzles

Cons:
- Boss fights are too similar
- There is a rare case that you can get soft locked in the game

Should you buy this game?

Yes.
If you like to solve puzzles and shooting enemies, buy this game at a sale. You might want to think twice if you plan to 100% it though, the game can be boring if you replay it too many times.

In-Depth Review

Visuals

The visuals sure have aged. It looks realistic and detailed for its ruin-themed environment, but it lacks the visual effects that you usually see in the more recent games. Dark areas also become hard to see because they use a strong, dark color palette for these kinds of environments. Characters and monsters are made in great detail despite their top-down view and the decision not to display them from up close works in their favor - despite their detailed stature, their porcelain-like skins don't suit them at all.

Story

You won't get much from the story. The most that the story has to offer is the cutscene that was played at the beginning and the end of the game. However, there isn't much to tell from the cutscenes either since it only serves as a premise for your adventure.

The Game

Gameplay
The game focuses on solving puzzles and killing enemies. The puzzle element relies on the use of various mechanics, whether it's climbing a wall through the use of a grappling hook, using your spear as a way to reach higher heights, or navigating an area full of spike switches. Most puzzles are usually easy to solve although it will be more challenging as you progress, especially after the introduction of challenge tombs. It's an optional area that offers a more difficult puzzle that compensates you with a good reward upon clearance. Although some puzzles are challenging to solve, it feels satisfying once you figure out how to solve them.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2449552211

Combat
You'll have to face hordes of enemies often in the game, forcing you to utilize your guns to kill the enemies. Various weapons are available at your disposal with four weapon slots to allow quick switching. There won't be that many weapon types that you'll use though - you'll mostly use one fast weapon to kill the lesser enemies and one higher damaging, slow weapon to kill the tougher ones quickly.

All enemies feel the same except for their attacking patterns and after-death projectiles. However, you won't notice much of the difference since you tend to fight hordes of enemies at the same time. Sure, some enemies might surprise you with their tricky quirks and special way to kill, but there won't be that much difference in the end - you'll just have to shoot and dodge any projectiles that come to you.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2449560113

Bosses also feel repetitive. They usually have the same similarities: easy-to-avoid attack patterns with hordes of smaller enemies to distract you from damaging the boss. It was easy to beat them, and I could even defeat most of them on the first try. The only exception is the first boss due to its huge HP - you'll have to figure out how to damage it and time your attack to defeat it effectively.

Challenges
Aside from the combat and puzzles, the game also offers some challenges that will reward you with items. These challenges vary from each level, from something as easy as jumping over several platforms to something as difficult as moving a ball to a hole within a time limit. Although most of them are challenging to solve, others are just plain annoying since you need to do trial and error to get them.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2449553585

Length and Difficulty
The game has 3 difficulties. I finished it in the easiest mode in 13.3h with everything collected. The difficulty is alright to me though, especially since you need to replay each level a lot of times if you want to get 100% completion.

This might be a fun game to play at first, but the repetition and annoying challenges if you aim for 100% completion ruin the game. It was boring to explore the same area several times, with the same enemies and huge area coverage. It's going to take you 20-50 minutes to finish one level normally, and since you are going to finish every level more than once, it's bound to affect you somehow. Don't get me wrong though, it's still a fun game, but doing a 100% run might not be worth it unless if you are a completionist or a hardcore player, not because of the difficulty, but because of your love for the game.

Problems
You can get soft locked in the game if you are stuck on a cliff that isn't walkable. To make it worse, collectibles also tend to be placed near the edge of a cliff, baiting you to walk on the trap and restart the level.

Intel Core i5-9300H 2.40GHz, 8GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650

Conclusion

To be honest, I struggled with the control at first. The game's default control was a mess - you need to press the Alt and the WASD button at the same time to push a boulder. Luckily, you can customize the keybinding and the game becomes bearable afterward. You might still press the wrong button due to its number of controls, but it wasn't as annoying as it was.

The game was fun to play, especially if you ignore the collectibles and challenges. Puzzles are fun to finish and the more difficult ones will reward you if you manage to solve them. It's a game that's fit for casual players who are playing to get as many collectibles and solve as many puzzles as they can while not sweating over the ones they missed. Although 100% completion isn't difficult to get, the repetitiveness might ruin the experience sometimes.

WTF
Why is this a good game?
I got this for free
It's 11 years old

Controls are great. Graphics are more than decent, I'd say they're pretty nice. Puzzles are fun. Action is very well designed. This is much better than other hugely budgeted Lara games. C'mon, someone give money to this team and put them to do something awesome.

Except 10 years and a pandemic have passed since then.
Oh well. Hope you're OK guys.

Surprisingly good. Addicting and solid gameplay, at parts challenging, but fair. I liked that you can get better items and weapons by completing challenges and clearing out tombs which are puzzle oriented.

Cool game, doesn't look like it was made in the early 2010s, looks like a 2015 mini game on max settings
The puzzle are fun and well made, there's some that are bad or litterally too easy but it makes a good balance with the fun/hardest ones

You can play co-op and finish the game together, and i liked how the maps and puzzles changes when you play with someone
You can finish the game twice, one in solo and one in co-op and it'll be the same story but with 2 differents ways to beat the puzzles

The combat system is basic, if you know how to aim and use the left click it should be good, you can also change the combat difficulty depending if you want some challenge or just play the game casually

That's an high quality game, i personnally put the game at the same level than Hitman: GO

As much as I hate these type of diagonal scrolling games this one was fun. The keyboard controls were a bit to get use to but again I don't play a lot of these games. The tombs were fun but a bit on the easy side. Overall the game was a good time for the 7 hours it took to finish it.

Cool twist on the familiar Lara Croft games, it's absolutely a hack and slack genre among others, but there's a lot of puzzle elements involved which helps break the beat up a little bit. The hook for me was local / online co-op. If you like franchise games like Diablo and Gauntlet then add this one to you library. A bird shit on me!

Do me a favor, do it, do it.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, is by far, one of my favorite Tomb Raider game, even if it's just a spin off of the series. It's a very well made twin stick shooter that works in both single player and coop! Having beat this game twice now, the first time on PS3 almost 10 YEARS AGO?! Holy sh*t!! I seriously love this game, and also hate it for stupid reasons.

First thing, DO NOT play this with Keyboard and Mouse, you will have a very bad time and the game will be a nightmare trying to even beat the game. Simply put, you will not be able to complete certain puzzles that involve moving giant balls around as your movement controls don't register in certain directions, in my case, I could not move down while holding onto the balls. Just plug a controller in and just play that way. It's more enjoyable and the game is built with that in mind. I used a PS4 controller with no issues.

As this was something other people had an issue with not opening the game at all, I am using Windows 10, did no edits to game files, and opened the game and played through to 100% completion with no issues, even played coop with very minimal lag. The only technical issues I had when playing, was if I was to Alt+Tab out of the game for any reason, when I go back into the game I'd suffer from huge framerate issues for a whole 10 seconds then it would go back to normal.

Now for the absolutely dumb reason why I hate this game. I simply can not stand Lara Croft. Her dialog is just so boring and annoying. I can not stomach playing through this game with her. THANKFULLY they included the best DLC ever made, the Kane & Lynch character pack. It makes absolutely no sense for them to be there other than its just another Crystal Dynamics property, but man does it make the game so much more enjoyable and hilarious at the same time! This was the only way I could play through without muting the game audio... Oh I guess there is also the Raziel and Kain pack, but you have to pay extra for that. Did I mention the dialog also changes if you play solo and coop? Good fun.

The game plays in 2 different ways, solo and coop. Each method the games puzzles will be adjusted so that you can beat them if you were to play solo, or more challenging and relying on your coop partner. Either way you play it's great fun, but I will admit that playing solo makes the game so stupidly easy even on the hardest difficulty. It does not take long to get powerful weapons and have no issues killing everything, and getting the relics that will then give you regen health and ammo make the game an even bigger cakewalk. Literally the only time I died on solo is the games broken jumping/grabbing.

That is still the most infuriating thing about this game, is trying to jump a huge gap over an instant death pit, and the game will not grab the ledge for you, so you just fall to your death. Some of these games are worse than others, sometimes it's complete RNG if the game will work or not. Thankfully the game has plenty of checkpoints scattered in every level so you never lose much progress. It still gets super annoying when you get stuck trying to jump the same gap 20 times and still won't grab the ledge.

The challenge DLCs are 100% worthless, don't waste your time with those.

Like I said, I've 100% completed this game for the second time. In solo I beat it in just over 3 hours. This game is very short if you plan on just running through it. It's still a great game to pick up on a good sale, and even better to grab a friend to play through it! For being 10 years old, it still holds up very well!

Anyone who is a fan of the Tomb Raider series should love this addition!

It plays as a third person perspective, isometric view. The new style of playing, compared to the classic close up third person centre camera is very nice and feels like a unique game in itself.

The graphics of the game are just beautiful and the level design is well thought out.

There is a huge array of weapons to unlock and choose from, as well as the relics which add bonuses to def, speed, bomb, weapon etc.

For completionists there is a lot to keep you busy :)

Enjoy the game and buy it! Worth every penny!

PS. Wait until you unlock the Golden Shotgun! That is OP and mows down enemies like butter.

Great 3D-Isometric style platformer from Crystal Dynamics giving Lara Croft games a new perspective. I played this back when it first came out, and had a blast playing through. The storyline is forgettable, the two characters don't have much for growth other than a few lines of dialogue, the graphics are decent to good for its time (though still decent for today), and the action/puzzles are tough enough to make you flex your skills a little bit.

You need to help Lara Croft and her friend Totec, the Guardian of Light, to defeat Xolotl, the Keeper of Darkness. Both were released back into life when mirror of smoke is broken. You have until dawn to defeat Xolotl.

The game spans 14 different levels. A few of them are mainly boss levels, but the majority is a platforming scene where you must trigger doors, platforms, and bridges in order to reach all areas of the level. Within some levels you will find some tombs, where mainly you'll be able to find difficult to access collectibles such as health increases, special weapons, relics, and more.

While the game is fun, it is very obvious that Lara is not fully controlled in 360 degrees of freedom. She is stuck on with only 8 directions to truly choose from. This can make it awkward when platforming in a 3D isometric view. Other than that, Lara is as agile as can be jumping great chasms, diving for cover, throwing spears, and shooting a variety of deadly weapons to choose from.

The first time you play this game, it may take you 10 hours to beat, but if you get all of the challenges such as the timing challenges for level completion, you can actually beat the game in less than 2 hours easily. The challenges were difficult to obtain, and this is why my review comes so late. Typically I don't review until I've unlocked all achievements. The last achievement, which was to complete all challenges on all levels, definitely took me some time. They are definitely challenging to accomplish.

I did play this a little in multiplayer, but mainly played this as a single player game. Either way it's enjoyable, definitely not the best out there, but since it's Lara Croft, it's fun to play just for the experience of playing from a different perspective and still have it feel like a Tomb Raider game.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is an awesome isometric twin stick shooter with clever puzzles and fast paced action. Game supports local and online co-op for 2 players and will slightly change cutscenes and puzzles depending on player count. Highly recommended, game very fun solo and especially in co-op.

Pros:
- Fun gameplay;
- Good graphics;
- Creative puzzle design;
- Big arsenal;

Cons:
- Boring DLCs;
- No lip sync in cutscenes;

A fun game. Not too complicated.
Shoot enemies and try to keep your relic power up as it gives bonuses. More powerful relics are earned through various challenges and found in the game.

Weapons are rewarding when you unlock more powerful variants mid to late game.

You can play with a friend on the same PC with an extra controller or via search online for a random player which adds a few extra things you need to do as a team to beat levels and overcome obstacles.

Graphics and sounds are nice. Combat difficulty can be changed at any time from the menu.

Good for more or less 40-50 hours if you are going to unlock everything and try for high scores.

Some replay ability if you unlock all relics, artefacts and weapons.

One of the best couch co-op game in my opinion. This game is WAY under rated in that domain. I wouldn't play the solo but the co-op is brilliant. It's balanced between a fun Hack and Slash and puzzle game. I really hope there were more games like that.
Note that the game has aged well and will be enjoyable even in 2020.

It's a very fun (especially local) co-op game. If I were to rate it as a single player game I couldn't possibly give it more than 5/10 since the story, voice acting, gameplay and general quality isn't anything to talk about - but the moment you plug in that second controller it gets considerably more fun. As a co-op game it's suddenly a solid 8/10 and definitely one of the better co-op experiences I played in the past year or two. If you like twin-stick shooters and/or Lara Croft feel free to add another point.

Very different from the typical Tomb Raider games. It's basically a poor version of Diablo with some puzzles. As a Diablo game, the game is too shallow with VERY little character progression, resulting in repetitive combat. Also, the game is way too short. I'm about 1/3 done in 2 hours. As a Tomb Raider game, the puzzles aren't very interesting and nowhere near as good as typical TR games. Also, checkpoints can sometimes be too far apart, forcing you to repeat fights before puzzles if you die randomly. Deaths happen frequently as it is often unclear what the player is supposed to do.

5/10.

First of all, I was slightly put off by the controls. But I had got used to it pretty quickly. The movement direction is controlled only by the controller/keyboard and the mouse is only used to aim. Granted, I might not have played many games with such controls but I still had to say this.

The gameplay is great and there are minor bugs - but nothing that ruined the experience. This game is better played in a co-op mode and is worthwhile to do so. I have played only the single player version and it is still pretty good. In all, this is a short game and pretty fun to play with a friend.

The graphics is neat and the levels are nicely done. Expecting visual fidelity to the likes of TR 2013 is incorrect as this is a different type altogether. The story is quite simple and easily forgettable - but then the game itself is designed likewise. if you want an engaging story and plot, play the other recent TR games. If you're alright with a shallow plot, good graphics, solid gameplay and short term fun - you can't go wrong.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light seeks to protect its tomb raider roots by refreshingly introducing a new gameplay style for the titular archaeologist, yet unfortunately succumbs to the pesky traps of bugs, glitches and monotony.

NOTE: This experience was played entirely in co-op, not from a single-player perspective.

WHAT I LIKED:
+ A tomb raider and a Mayan protector. A co-op fuelled adventure for Lara is, for the most part, an exciting change of pace from the usual linear action-adventuring she's used to. With the assistance of Totec, both characters possess unique abilities that enable them to complete certain puzzles and defeat hordes of ancient enemies. The two are regularly forced to interact with each other, such as Lara jumping on Totec's shield for extra jumping height, therefore pursuing that overall co-operative teamwork.
+ Who needs dual pistols and spears? Completing the optional challenges and tombs will grant the player additional upgrades and weapons. These weapons, ranging from shotguns to rocket launchers, spice up the combat to suit each player's style. One person can operate a machine gun whilst the other equips a grenade launcher, or both can utilise the same weapon. Perfect for boss encounters and swarms of enemies.

WHAT I DISLIKED:
- More bugs found in every level than within a dilapidated sarcophagus. Guardian of Light is regrettably broken. Every level caused unnecessary frustration, not from a genuine mistake, but due to the camera glitching or characters randomly teleporting into a fiery pit of lava. The hit detection for the vast majority of obstacles, such as fire or spikes, was unfair to say the least, granting an instant death when Lara was clearly metres away from the trap. Walking across a broken bridge is all fine and dandy, until the camera forces Lara to plunge to her death. The game frequently does not recognise a character collecting a gem or upgrade, forcing the player to keep walking over it. Gahhh. Frustrating!
- Enemies were mundane. Basically there are 3 types of enemies. Small yet speedy lizard creatures, human-sized warriors and then colossal giants. Each have different variations dependent on the game's progress, such as firing more projectiles or equipped with shields. Their designs, mannerisms and reliance on projectiles were uninspired, making each encounter a generic nuisance rather than a credible challenge.
- The levels just go on...and on...and on. Despite the campaign being beatable in a respectable 5 hours, it felt like an eternity. Just when you thought the final boss encounter against Xolotl was about to happen, another 3 levels presented themselves to act as filler. No new mechanics or challenges were introduced, just the same enemies and puzzles to increase that longevity.
- Relics were useless, with their supposed stat changes rarely making a significant difference. No purpose in collecting them really other than to 100% the game.

VERDICT:
4/10 ammo upgrades, just don't forget to walk on them atleast 10 times to make sure the game registers you've collected them...

What is Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light ?

A pretty good spin-off entry in the tomb raider series, played this game with a friend and we both got it for free during a giveaway a while ago and it gave us a few hours of fun, its a decent spin-off overall, very simplistic but well-done, while its a short game, it makes for a nice ride that doesnt overstay its welcome, it may get repetitive after a while but it has a decent pace, I didnt care much about the story or what was going on, its a spin-off after all, I simply took it as a smaller arcadey game where I finished different set of levels with a friend, its translates the tomb raider feel into a topdown perspective really well, using tools such as lara's grappling hook or the secondary character's scepter to solve puzzles and coordinate moves with a friend just made the gameplay really dynamic to me, considering how ridiculously cheap it is during a sale, I have no issues recommending it, people looking for very cheap coop game to play with a friend in a few sittings and just experience a really chill adventure you should have no issues picking this one, its a nice spin-off.

What a cool idea this game was that really held together well until the end. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is a co-operative game filled with actions, puzzles, speedrunning challenges and unique optional objectives that reward players with upgrades for their journey. For players looking for singleplayer experience, it is certainly not bad, but the game really shines in multiplayer co-op. Solving puzzles, dealing with enemies and trap, platforming Aztec-themed levels are often done with a partner that promotes fun teamwork. Even if you do not have a partner this game can be beaten solo with no trouble as the game does not force you to play with a dumb AI partner, so if you’re into platforming twin-stick shooters with puzzles and upgrades, it is still a fun experience. With a friend, this game is a blast to play and a must-have for co-op lovers. Highly recommended.

This might actually be the happiest I've ever been with a Steam purchase, considering the price-to-fun ratio.

I'd never really gotten into twin stick shooters before (or the Tomb Raider franchise for that matter) so maybe my standards are low, but my SO and I are having more fun with this game than any other couch co-op game we've played so far. We played 6.7 hours the first evening we had it.

I would honestly say it's worth the full ten bucks, but I got it on sale and can easily say its the best buck-fifty I've ever spent.

I guess Square Enix wanted to make a quick buck for their real Lara Croft/Tomb Raider and they needed a bit of cash in order to do so by selling a very bland, very character limited game.

The gameplay is action pack, fast, jump and dodging all over the place and a shoot ‘em up hack and slash type of game. It’s smooth for the most part, but I think it was made better for controller use than mouse and keyboard. Dodging enemy beams, arrows from traps, dodge running boulders, the works. You can jump all over the place including to your death (many, many times, lol!).

You get artifacts that enhance your gameplay by giving your ammo special uses or becoming a bit stronger, but you can only carry two artifacts and one for your weapon. You get to carry four weapons at times; one being a golden spear that helps you maneuver through the courses and challenges that the game will throw at you. You get bombs and varies weapons to blow up certain environment obstacles (e.g. blow up a truck and kill minions and yourself included!) that can be entertaining for the baddies. There are power ups throughout the courses – whether it being ammo, health, or gems that build up your weapon meter.

It wouldn’t be Lara Croft without dungeoneering your way through tombs, caves, jungles or the likes without those being introduced into the game. It also wouldn’t be Lara Croft without puzzles, death traps, ambushes, bad guys, and priceless treasures. All, of which is included.

But why am I on the fence? It’s limited. I know, I know, it’s Lara Croft, but most hack and slash games even with some decency to them have levels, customization, character building, talents, feats, attributes, story driven, some form of something with hack and slash games. I mean, it’s not a bad game, but it isn’t a great game either. I guess if you have no other games to play and you want to kill some time, then it would be good. For me, it was decent. Don’t get me wrong, some of the puzzles take a second to figure out and others give you a moment to pause about, but everything else was just bland and repetitive with no rewards.

Sure, one could do the challenges to get better equipment or whatnot, but honestly I was trying my best to tolerate the game. I know my opinion on said “likeness” is different than yours, but for 9.99 or less you’ll definitely get your money to hour ratio worth of gameplay. You’ll also probably enjoy it more than I will too. Good luck and game on!

Not a bad spin-off title. For a twin stick shooter it has some entertaining co-op mechanics, however sharing a screen even in online mode quickly becomes annoying.

I cut the rope while my boyfriend was trying to get across.
He fell.
Would do it again.

When this game came out, I thought ugggh that's not a Tomb Raider type of game! But now in 2020 finally playing it, it is fun!

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is not a bad way to spend 5 hours.

It's alternating gameplay focus on puzzles, platforming, and combat give the game a nice flow. Each aspect holds its weight, but the puzzles are the real star of the show. They require heavy teamwork and physics based thinking. They're a great brain teasing challenge and remain so until the end of the game, despite the fact that Guardian of Light never really increases the complexity of your toolset.

Local play IS A MUST, the netcode is absolutely terrible. Other than that, the first isometric adventure starring not-Indiana-Jones, sassy femme fatale, Lara Croft. I gotta say, I played Temple of Osiris before this one and I really liked the sequel, but how about the first instalment?

Well, it's pretty good! The puzzles are on par with the sequel, but the action is WAY harder here, this felt more like a twin stick shooter than a swash buckling adventure fighting Mesoamerican mummies and all sorts of monstrosities looking to ruin your day.

The story is definitely not the focus here, this is purely focused on gameplay, first and foremost. And be prepared to die quite a lot to both platforming and genuinely hard enemy encounters. And unless you live in the same block as the person you inted to play with, I absolutely recommend this for local play, as half of the platforming deaths were due to wonky hit detections caused by desyncs and lag.

So yeah, I can't say I recommed this better than the sequel, both compliment each other quite well, but at least I'd recommend getting this one along with the sequel for some of the most entertaining couch coop goodness out there.

The level design is great! Fun, classic game.
The changing perspective and the very literal, contextual application of the WASD makes it tricky for me to control with a keyboard... I have always been more of a controller person. I'm fine with the fighting and dodging, but if I need to pull a timer lever, blow up a target with C4, then grab something, then jump accurately all within a few seconds, I'm certain to jump headlong into the lava 19 out of 20 times. And yet I still had fun.

Fun little spin-off game with the Tomb Raider lore, features two player local or remote play COOP. It's a puzzle action game with puzzles varying in difficulty and scale, push boulders into fire pits or run across a giant field of spikes to open a secret door or just progress the level. Plenty of collectibles from weapons to relics and artifacts that increase your stats as well as give you special upgrades. The challenge DLCs add some time attack and arena maps you can try to complete, and the Raziel and Kain pack lets you play the game with your favorite Soul Reaver characters, as a bonus the game already comes with Kane & Lynch characters as well.

It is unexpectedly good, especially for a co-op twin stick shooter.

There is not much to say about the shooting
but the puzzles are done quite well,
and level design is interesting enough to keep you playing.

I like it when a co-op game is good.

I was not expecting such a great coop game really. Everything is built for coop, the two characters abilities mesh so well with each other and you have access to non linear puzzles.
So yes if you're stuck on a puzzle there may be different ways to reach the end. This game has in concept a lot of similarities with Breath of the Wild surprisingly, it even has some small open world sections with optional challenges.
On top of that, every collectible or additional challenges grants you tangible upgrades, making them very satisfying to pick up.

A different approach compared to the classic Tomb Raider series. The co-op multiplayer was fun but it had a lot of syncing and disconnection issues. Nevertheless the levels were fun and the puzzles were easy overall granting a fun time.

Overview

I played this game single-player, so if you are looking for a review of the co-op experience, I won't be able to discuss it here.

Very solid experience, and had me glued to my seat! The many collectibles, challenge tombs, as well as rewards for earning higher scores and speed, really had me hooked.

Gameplay

In a typical Lara Croft game, you're trying to stop bad guys and get an artifact. This game however is one of the few isometric viewpoint Tomb Raider games, and so the gameplay mechanics aren't what the typical games are like. The gameplay consists of two main components - environment traversal and combat.

Environment traversal involves getting creative with various tools, such as a magical spear that can create platforms for Lara to climb to previously unreachable places. There are also explosives which can help with solving environmental puzzles, as well as challenge tombs (many of which need the player to get creative with platforming).

Combat is twin-stick shooter style. Lara starts with basic weapons such as her trusty pistols, but eventually unlocks ridiculous stuff like chain gun and rocket launcher. Really makes the second half of a game even more of a blast!

I really enjoyed the cadence between puzzles and combat - the two phases alternate between each other, e.g. before getting an important artifact, cue large amount of enemies. However, it's not guaranteed that they are mutually exclusive! Many of the collectibles involve precision platforming, while hordes of enemies are on you. Super fun!

Conclusion

Overall I found this a very fun isometric, twin-stick shooter game, with good environmental puzzles and collectible design. Unlocking weapons and solving increasingly difficult challenge tombs and bigger and stronger enemy types (there's also a T-Rex in this game), kept me hooked!

This game has been out for quite some time already, but there are still lots of people playing and active on the forums. So if you're looking for a fun single-player, local multiplayer co-op, or even online (might have to try harder to coordinate), this is a great game if you get it on sale!

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is an enjoyable Twin-Stick Shooter, especially if another player joins you. Puzzles adapt to having another player there, making sure you both have something to do.

The story is terrible and I don't remember much. Each level has several objectives which when completed will unlock stuff. Not an especially memorable game, but an enjoyable one while you're playing. Avoid the sequel as it's impressively bad and boring.
