Also mal was ganz anderes.

The game had potential but it is way too easy. You get unsolicited advice from your annoying sidekick ALL THE TIME. It's like the developers thought players would be too stupid to figure the stuff out on their own. I wish I had watched more than just the prologue on YouTube because I didn't expect that this sidekick/colleague would take up the entire game. I really didn't like him and I was actually happy when I thought he was finally out of the picture after the prologue. To make things worse, he has one of the most irritating voices... I had to play the entire game on mute because I couldn't stand his voice and his attitude. I couldn't care less about his fate and I didn't like it how the game pushes you into this friendship/colleague relationship. I even found the main antagonist much more likeable than him. I think it's too bad that Miles wasn't the real main character since he was much more interesting and I could also sympathize more with him. Everyone's just nagging at him all the time. I didn't care for his attention-seeking and unsympathetic wife either.

A great and difficult point-and-click adventure. The puzzles are not too hard, but there are (as in KingsQuest) DeadEnds. My personal tip: Save often. Very often. So you can see all the case variants at the end, can end the game without having looked in the notebook (Archivment) and escape the dead ends. Music, Voiceacting, Animations, Backgrounds and so on very impressive. Also german translation is very good. Nice game.

A very good adventure game with a nice twist to it - the ability to complete each chapter in a different way depending on how you handle the investigation of each case the main character handles, bar the prologue. I found this enjoyable to play.

What a great game! I can't tell you the last time a point and click got me this interested. I appreciate the alt history setting, the music, the art and the writing! It is refreshing to have a point and click where you have to use your brain and not just click on everything and talk to everyone about everything. (Though you mostly still want to do this)

Solving the cases was logical and satisfying. Unlike most point and clicks you really should save often with different save games. Your progress will not be blocked but you may not get the results you want. Also: hats off to the dev for having a commentary mode. I am going to play back through with that on to get more information about how the world was built and the game came together.

I am very excited for Rosewater now, seeing as it is set in the same alt-history light steampunk world!

Its a fun, gripping story that pulls you in despite... perhaps being a little gameplay-light. Due to a lack of inventory management, puzzles can feel easy -- but you get the feeling you're unraveling a series of mysteries, which fit together logically, with considerable attention paid to worldbuilding. Lovely overtures to Gabriel Knight in the presentation. I'd gladly go at a few more cases.

A game with reasonable investigation, puzzles and pixel art is ruined by bad writing and voice acting. None of these characters speak or behave as if they're from 1844, alternative or otherwise. Also, be sure to save often, as you can easily lock yourself out of solving cases with a single dialogue option.

The first half an hour of this game I was absolutely engrossed with the eye drowning atmosphere. A true point-and-click masterpiece or so I thought.

You see the makers of this game want you to feel like a real detective. The way they did this sadly was by giving you some arbitrary soft dead ends based on speech decisions. If you choose the wrong thing to say to the character you are talking to, they will not want to talk to you again, do this to enough characters and you'll have to declare the case on unsolvable and move on to the next one.

I found this out on case 1. The problem now is I would have to play through the other 4 cases knowing I'm going to have to play through the game at least once more to do case one properly. (The other option is reload an earlier save game and try again which is just teleporting me back to the days of Sierra and their dead ends. Not my idea of entertainment manipulating multiple save games)

If I playthrough with case 1 unsatisfyingly unsolved because of some arbitrary text choices...it means committing to another playthrough and another chunk of hours just to experience a slightly different outcome in a game I've already played. This is obviously highly conflicting and ultimately demotivating and makes me want to go and play something else and never think about this game again. Which I what I did.

As a game developer you need to decide whether you are bringing something mechanically clever to the game that would enhance the experience or something that is so arbitrary and frustrating that is just going to annoy the player creating more grind. I play point and click adventure games because there is a sense of achievement solving puzzles and not a load of grind. Creating a mechanic which effectively forces the player to play through multiple times to get the most out of the game starts to blur into grind. I think this mistake is innocent enough but not what I was expecting or hoping for.

I really enjoyed playing this game, however at some points it felt as if I had nearly nothing to go off of. While I was looking for something I would have to scrounge around town clicking everything I had thought I already looked at before and check if any new dialogue options were available for any of the characters. Then I would find what I was supposed to looking for and get right back on track. It just felt like a real chore and a waste of time. The game allows you to have several suspects, but many of them don't make much sense to accuse and you only do it for an arrest cutscene and achievement so I was kind of underwhelmed by that feature. Other than that, I can't find anything else to complain about in this game. The writing and voice acting is all great. Some people dislike how depending on who you accused in the past cases it can affect your opportunities in the following ones, but I find it makes the game much more immersive instead of dumping all of the old characters and settings into the trash because you're still in the same area conducting your investigations. Anyways, you should definitely try this game if you like the genre and a lot of dialogue.

This game was a delight to play. The whole presentation was great and the writing was top-notch.
The game design in this game changed a few things to the classic point-and-click formula but every choice worked for the betterment of the game. I still miss combining stuff in an invetory, but everything else in this game makes up for it. You have multiple ways of solving some puzzles and you can arrest the wrong person, these choices ripple through the game adding a lot of replay value.
The writing is really good, it crafts a interesting enough story, in a detailed and well realized world full of interesting characters. This game nails dialogue and worldbuilding.

You should play LampLight City.

Lamplight City is an excellent adventure game with detective and investigation mechanics, that allows the player to be incorrect and live with the consequences of their actions. I had a blast when I first played this, even when I was getting some of the cases wrong. It just made it all the more exciting to replay the game later on. There are entire plot threads and characters you might have missed!

The worldbuilding for this game is also excellent - as you progress through the five cases, you learn more about the people of New Bretagne and the world at large, through newspaper articles, overheard conversations, and ancillary characters you meet in each case. It paints a tapestry of a world full of depth and intrigue that is a lot of fun to explore. I really enjoy the alternate history created for this game as well, with vague steampunky vibes that feel appropriate and not too... much.

The graphics tend to be pretty nice though occasionally varies in overall quality. It's not enough to be a dealbreaker, but enough to be noticeable. I felt like one or two of the backgrounds had slightly wonky perspective as well. The soundtrack is excellent through and through though, especially the end credits.

I'd highly recommend this game to any fan of the genre, or even to those that aren't. It's accessible, intriguing, and a lot of fun. Really looking forward to more from the World of Vespuccia! Roll on Rosewater!

A rare detective game that make you actually decide who you're going to accuse and let you miss clues or make mistakes while questioning witnesses or suspects withou getting stuck ou game over.

Just for that it already deserves a thumbs up, but it also has good story, good dialogues, good puzzles and good interface.

A PREACHY COMMUNIST-MINDED GAME THAT TRIES TO FORCE FEED THE PLAYER WITH A NAIVE VIEW ON SOCIETY AND INJUSTICE

As I've just finished the game, I've updated my review and changed it from positive to negative.
In the end, I got too annoyed that my enjoyment of this game, that has qualities, was consistently interrupted by repeating annoyances.

On the plus side, I enjoyed the ambience, the graphics, the investigation, the voice over actors.

On the can be improved side, the main character is drawn with wrong proportions over some backgrounds, and too many unrealistic coincidences are used to make innocent people look like suspects.

On the bad side, first of all, even though the sidekick character that speaks to you during the whole game is supposed to be annoying, he becomes truly obnoxious, and it distracts you from the game.

Most distracting and annoying of all is the fact the game embraces an ultra leftist point of view as if the developers considered their players would necessarily share them. While the writing is not horrible, most characters have been designed with a lasting taste of political correctness.

Is someone part of one or more minorities? You know they will be innocent, as they are presented as the epitome of kindness, never getting rude or anything, and you can make sure that they will be wrongly accused.
White women? They have to be torturing servants or stealing babies. At best they will be vulgar and unfriendly.
A right wing politician? He will either kidnap poor workers for votes or beat his wife and sleep with prostitutes. I'm not exaggerating, all of this is in the game.

Not much of an investigation and too bad for the glaring lack of complexity and realism, replaced here by dullness, predictability and let's face it, subdued racism. They even go as far as presenting technology during the whole game as a risk to society, without second degree. Well, we wouldn't play much of an adventure game without this technology, wouldn't we?

At some point they make fun of a scientist that discovers a new form of energy to power lamps (something positive in my eye) and, because their ongoing demonstration is that technology is a risk to jobs before being a progress for society, they let the character say that brighter lights could help prevent crimes (and the main character comments to himself that it's ridiculous). As I read this cringe worthy attempts to make him sound stupid, I remembered there had actually been a scientific study demonstrating that a well lit environment actually prevents crime, and I made it a point to include it in my review. A study found that outdoor lighting cuts crime by 39%.

If you think you've read it all, you need to know that the game goes even further. While avoiding any spoiler, I can tell that the developers work a lot on justifying many crimes at the end of the game, and seems to push you to let the killer at large and look the other way instead of sending them to a trial, because they may have killed people that weren't very nice (and they will make sure you get the message). Justifying murder because of good reasons, you can't go more Manichean than this.

I'm especially disappointed as I really love adventure games, notably those made in Adventure Game Studio, I've played all of those published by Wadjet Eye Games (which was almost the case for this one). But playing this game until the end, I went from a level of mild annoyance to feeling force-fed with stereotypes and unrealistic biased political opinions.

I wish it wasn't such a trend in video games. You shouldn't have to be taught a lesson in how to think after you pay for a game when you just want to enjoy a compelling story. This pretty much insults the player's intelligence, and their freedom of opinion. This would have been fair only if the woke tone of the game had been made clear in the game's description.
I also would have preferred if they didn't locate the action in an imaginated city that uses a mix of existing location names.

This game is one of the most disappointing games i've ever purchased, I was hoping for some Blackwell esc type of magic but its verging on tragic than magic.
The game graphics are fine and that is literally the only plus for this game, the storyline is exhausting and tedious, theres to many unnecessary click points and there is virtually no enjoyment. its bland, dull and lifeless. I havent even completed it got bored trying to figure out what it was I was supposed to be doing. the execution of this game is poor, no humour, you find yourself skipping cutscenes and dialogue because theres to much and you have no idea whats going on anyway. The puzzles are to complicated and make no sense to game play. its a disaster. save your money.

Amazing. I wish I could play it all over again for the first time just to re-experience each case anew. Read an article that mentioned that the primary producer behind it isn't hoping to write a love letter to the adventure games of old, but to create something entirely new. I would say that this game absolutely succeeds in that goal. I genuinely cannot sing its praises enough.

A short and very enjoyable detective based point and click game.

The game focuses more on discovering clues and conversations then the normal puzzle solving in point and click games but handles it well. Each case can be solved with a different a suspect being accused depending on how many clues you have found, with each case having a golden ending you get for finding all clues.

I found the overall story not that engaging but each cases individual story I quite enjoyed.

One of the best point and clicks I've played in a while.
The story is well written in a true old school detective style that reminds me of Shelock Holmes stories.
Each case is well thought out and in places involve making some choices that can have permanent consequences.
There aren't any convoluted puzzles in the game either which is great. The puzzles that are there are all reasonable and can be solved by simply being thorough and making logical inferences.
The setting of the game is also rich with lots of depth and flavour to be found by inspecting the environments, listening in on people and doing optional reading.
It also has a beautiful old school pixel art style which was used to create a lot of great looking environments which all adds to the immersion.
It also has a very decent play time making it really good value for money.

The game isn't perfect though, the permanent effect of screwing up during a case is more annoyance than an actual immersive tool since it's easy to get around by loading a save which one will always do because knowing you're accusing the wrong person is almost impossible to swallow. You then can find yourself replaying a whole chunk of the game from your last save just to fix your mistake. The controls are also unorthodox having cone with a single left click contextual control scheme, which feels clunky and counter intuitive at times.

These are minor gripes however. The game makes more than up for them with its creative stories and immersive environments and game play.

Lamplight City is a point and click detective game. You play as Miles Fordham, a detective with bright mind but a troubled past.

Now you might think, well, this is quite a common game right? Fortunately, it isn't. This is why this game felt special to me:

1. Multiple Cases. A couple of cases to complete (and they are all unique). Some detective games only give you a long one case for the entire game, well not this one. If you fancy yourself as a neutral detective who solve cases, this game is for you
2. Choices do matter! With enough circumstantial evidence, you can wrap up a case and accuse the wrong person (might not be good idea) or even declare a case unsolvable. NPC will also react about the cases you solve, usually thanking you for finding the right culprit. Of course, you can read the newspaper about the case you solve on the next day, which also includes some news that might pique your interest.
3. Good world details. Continuing for point 2, aside the NPC, I think the world building is good enough. Steam tech everywhere, and how the people are struggling to accept it is a nice touch. You'll see when you play it.

My only gripe with this game is that you can accidentally say dumb things to a witness and make them refuse to talk you, thus stopping you from finding the culprit, which is mitigated by generous saves from the game.

So yeah, do give this game a try if you enjoy point and click game, or you like detective games in general

Decent point and click adventure....but some odd story elements throughout e.g. right out of the gate we are supposed to shoot someone who had been stealing flowers. Way to needlessly escalate the situation supercop, your quest for justice has killed a man.

Also, you need a vessel for carrying around some ashes in and literally only one item will do the job. Is the bucket at the university? NO. Is it the hat on the hat stand? NO. It's the dirty pint glass in that one bar you spent two minutes in. NOTHING ELSE WILL SUFFICE.

Reagent minigame was half baked. Would've been great if that had more use.

Roleplay elements are very light. Protagonist makes some utterly indefensible actions and you aren't given a choice, you just have to role with it.

Best Adventure I've ever played.
This is an all in all well crafted game, that solves many of the problems I had with Adventures in the past.
Writing, voice-acting & animations are brilliant and i got invested in the characters and their interactions.
The gameplay is very basic, though. You're a detective and solve cases. You do this by talking to people and finding clues. That's it.
No inventory puzzles or something like that.
No superpower for your character or mastery for you as a player to gain.
I liked this because it helped me to immerse myself into the protagonists perspective. But I imagine it's not for people who are playing for gameplay rather than story.
It has my love, though! :)

I rage quitted for the second time this day. I don't play games like these to have one minor mistake make me run into a dead end and miss out on part of the story. I know that saving is an option. But making a bad choice at the beginning of a case with Addy meaning a dead end at the end of the case is just outright frustrating. Especially because backtracking and replaying parts takes a lot of time if you want to correct what you did wrong earlier.

OMG This is one of the Best and coziest games I've every played! There are not nearly enough true Detective games around. But it's also an Adventure game. And I like the old school element where you don't just click through in a linear way; your actions may have consequences, so you should definitely Save Often! I've never seen this many Locations and Characters in any game ever! There are multiple cases and they tie together in a grand way that makes sense. Without giving it away, the way the ending wraps up is worth the wait. It's got intriguing dialog and a great sense of humor. With multiple paths and multiple cases, I feel like I got much more than my value's worth! The simple graphics make it even better! I only hope I can find other games like this from this developer. ONE OF THE BEST GAMES EVER! On a scale of 1 to 10 I give it a 100!

Lamplight City seems like made of perfect building blocks. Interesting characters, five intriguing cases, fantastic arts, and fascinating world design...Nah, who doesn't love traumatized, coat-obsessed detective? And this world is alternate Victorian!

However, Lamplight City critically lacks interactivity, and doesn't allow the player to use one's own deductive skills. I'd say this is an digital book, rather than a game. Sorry devs, but it certainly could've been much better.

This is maybe the easiest detective thing I've ever played. Though there are multiple endings and wrong choices, the player's thought is almost limited because Bill's voice does all analysis. The player just have to follow the lines. Seriously, BILL TALKS TOO MUCH and it REALLY annoyed me even though I know it is perfectly intended. He doesn't allow the player to think! It's okay to meet a dead end because of my stupidity(I'm stupid, I know), but it's completely not okay that my opportunity to think and analyze is robbed! Besides, the black background dialogues interrupt the flow of play.

Though it's hard to say this is a good 'game', I'd say Lamplight City is still worth trying, because there are also great charms here. All cases are quite intriguing, the art & music are truly majestic, dialogue trees are dynamic, and puzzles are pretty clever(it's a shame there are very few). All you need to do are click the mouse, save often, and endure Bill's endless lousy torturous jokes. No, I'm not being sarcastic. I really want to say good things. If you listen developer commentaries, you'll notice they're full of great insights. But the result of is rather...well, at least I expected more puzzles.

In summary, I recommend this if you're fan of Victorian/Steampunk-ish alternate history or detective novel. And I do not recommend if you expect more than reading and listening. I really, really hate to press 'thumbs down', but there isn't any neutral option, and I expected an adventure game, not an adventure audio book.

(Played on linux/Nouveau. Had a handful of CTD. Also, the achievements don't work on linux and mac, if you care for these fandangles.)

Lamplight City can be a good entry point to the point n' click genre:
- The detective work is very straightforward and easy. (You can still experiment with paths to failure, and rely on auto-saves or your manual saves to go back on tracks.)
- There is no inventory to manipulate and combine.

With little to offer in terms of puzzles, the game thus relies on its story-telling, world-building and full voice-acting to keep you entertained. It gives you enough control and non-linearity to avoid being labelled an interactive fiction (though it's a close call.)

I truly enjoyed that title, the great story and characters, the organic flow of investigation and events. And the humour too.

Definitely recommended for genre fans. Much better than most other newer voice-acted old-school point and click adventures.

I have been very happy these past few years that the old school point&click adventure style made a comeback. But it also has started to annoy me that some of them are way too easy, short or both. Sometimes interaction points are too obvious and scenes don't require attention.

Lamplight City is neither short nor easy. Frames require attention. There are choices that cause you to lose leads. It's very well written. I only got 15 of the 42 achievements apparently while it took me 14.2 hours to finish the game.

I recommend saving the game often.

Excellent point and click detective mystery, highly recommended, witty, thought provoking, even emotional at the end, well written and put together, with more than one conclusion to some cases.
It's a pity there were no more follow up games made (Not that I have found in any case)
5 star rating from me

I dislike that you can fall in traps during cases and can't recover from the beginning without a save at the point. An example is not complimenting Addy twice during the third or fourth case. I think that actually stops you from being able to properly solve the case. What? That's ridiculous. I have no plans to play through again to make more informed choices and don't really think I want to play on.

Lamplight City is a modern classic in adventure games. Large cast of supporting characters, many unique and beautifully painted settings, and an intriguing class struggle brewing in the background all come together for an immersive (and fun!) experience with a length that makes the already low price more than worth it. I just completed my second playthrough and the commentary tracks gave me an even deeper appreciation. Francisco Gonzalez is a true artist, and his medium is the point and click adventure game. I truly hope that one day he and Dave Gilbert team up again, because the games they collaborated on hold the best of both of their unique artistic and narrative styles. Anyway, this game is great.

Very gripping detective game - you don't get stuck trying to figure out how to combine arbitrary objects, but you still need to think or you'll come to wrong conclusions. The writing and dialogue are excellent, and the story is a slow burn that comes together nicely in the end

Well thought out mysteries. Well scripted writing. Funny sequences throughout. This game is very well done and it was a fun and pleasurable experience. Not a point and click puzzler. Your interactions with characters alter the way the game progresses. So be sure to pay attention to every detail. You are a detective after all. Worth the purchase. Cheers.

As a gigantic fan of point and click adventure games let me say that Lamplight City is one of my favorite modern point and clicks! It is well written, well voiced, and the art is breathtaking. The game is thoughtfully executed and I am looking forward to another play-through. The game has high replay value because the choices you make in game influence the ending that you receive. I highly recommend Lamplight City!

Intriguing cases, a lively well-acted cast, an extensive and beautifully depicted world, and surprisingly emotional by the end. This game makes the characters feel real and has some nice interlinks between cases. While traditional puzzle solving is very sparse and puzzles that do exist are very simple, the game shines through its use of dialogue. The conversational choices you make can strongly affect how cooperative characters are--and thus how the story comes out--and you truly feel like a detective puzzling out whodunnit and why.

This is a fantastic modern adventure game with a great neo-retro style. The detective story is a great plot, and has you chasing down leads and investigating various cases that start off unrelated but (of course) have a throughline across them. I also enjoyed the surprisingly deep worldbuilding, you slowly learn more and more about the setting in a really satisfying way. Really well done, and well worth picking up!

A point & click with irretrievable dead ends? Not for me.

Shame, as it was looking good, but a standard behaviour in this genre is exploring dialogue trees and options so you can find out what options are available to you. In this game, saying the wrong thing can close off the ability to proceed in any meaningful way... but there are also times where the only way to proceed is to press on in dialogue. One or the other would be fine, but both in the same game?

Nope.

I've enjoyed their other games, but this one just managed to tip itself over to not being enjoyable anymore.

To say that I was wary with Lamplight City is an understatement. While I did enjoy Shardlight to a degree, it had too many faults. And lots of those faults were also found in greater amounts in the prior game by Grundislav Games – A Golden Wake. But, after some time I’ve decided to give it a chance. And I’m very glad that I have done that as it turned out to be a really pleasant surprise.

Just like the prior projects by Grundislav Games, this project runs on Adventure Game Studio. Which, as usual, has its own quirks. It looks nice, but runs at specific resolutions and the game has letterboxing, there are certain technical limitations to it, but honestly, with how many wonderful projects have been released on it in the past decade, people seem to know how to make the engine run nicely. Besides, most importantly it does everything you’d want from a point and click adventure game with a more classic mindset.

Though, while the controls and many concepts are “classic”, how the game works is a rather fresh take on a mystery/detective adventure. For one, the game shifts attention completely from the usual inventory management, to “clues” and “suspects”, focusing far more on interviewing people and solving problems, rather than figuring out puzzles. It’s far from the first to do that, of course, but the way it’s handled in the game is really nicely done. Dialogues are often important and most curiously, you often get into talks where you can screw your investigation by saying something you don’t want to. It’s never overplayed, most of these situations are well made and work more like a check for player attention, rather than being just a “you chose wrong, reload game”. Every investigation has several suspects you can uncover and you can accuse any of the ones that you’ve gotten enough evidence against or, either through choice or blocking your own investigation due to mistakes, can even claim that the case cannot be resolved. All of which has consequences and leads to different endings.

I must stress, that this non-linearity is genuinely impressive and I cannot help but respect how much effort was spent on this and how often it works splendidly. And yet… The focus on making sure that every little variation is somehow acknowledged at later points (including across all cases), seemingly led to somewhat rushed moments that happen from time to time in each case. A surprisingly quick resolution here, really weird expectation from the player there and the game does become less enjoyable occasionally. It never gets really bad and the amount of effort spent on making sure your playthrough with the characters shaped by your actions will be fun to go through are commendable. But it really can’t always stick the landing.

That said, I really enjoyed playing Lamplight City. It’s a very fresh take on investigation games, it knows how to split it’s narrative into smaller cases in a really wonderful way, it has solid characters, good script and voice acting and it’s a story that I was happy to experience. If you like adventure titles and/or mystery novels, this game is definitely worth checking out.

Loved the plot, writing and most of the game play. I would definitely purchase Lamplight City 2 - if the developers release a new game. That said, my main feedback would be that it is frustrating that the game locks you out when you don't make the preferred choice - or follow the clues in a specific order. I am fine with failing and trying again - but the game does not offer that option. I couldn't finish the last case and make an accusation because I guess I went to the sites in the wrong order? Bummer. Still recommend - though. I appreciate the overall quality of the game.

The cases are interesting and the dialogue is well-written. However, the game is rather unforgiving in that if you make the wrong dialogue choice it will completely close out other options in the game and lead to dead ends. It's not always intuitive as to which choice you should make. If you do make the wrong choice, you could be spending a lot of time just replaying which is quite frustrating. 10 dollars for around 10 hours of gameplay is not bad but I would say save your money to avoid getting a headache with this game. The story is good but not good enough to warrant using up your time and money.

OK so I have to be brutally honest here and say that after playing for 2 hours I am completely bored already. I don't like to leave a bad review, especially having only played for 2 hours, but as a fan of adventure P+C games this has just been so disappointing.

There is no inventory and no figuring out to do. Most of this game is already pre-determined without me having to do anything. It is just constant dialogue. And when in dialogue, all of the background is removed and you see two heads (portrait style) having a conversation against the backdrop of a black screen. This takes me out of the environment and makes the game feel even more dull.

I feel like I am mildly helping a poor fiction story move along at a slow pace.

I love games with retro style graphics so this is not my bugbear at all. For example I just recently finished Thimbleweed Park and Unavowed and absolutely adored both of them. So much so that I rate them up there amongst Monkey Island and Broken Sword.

However, this game has no characters I care about, a boring storyline, and it is an effort to keep playing it thus far. I will stick with it until I finish the game just to get my money's worth but I honestly can't think of a single aspect of the game that interests, excites or intrigues me. I know that all sounds pretty brutal but I can only be honest.

Highly recommended to fans of point and click games.
Very nice dialog, interesting story, but the main catch is the way it plays.
First of all it is a refresh to the formula by you not having an inventory.
You found something, and your character knows that you did. There is no need to open a panel then go over it and select to use it. You click on the thing that needs that object and the character just does the thing.
Then there is the thing that you can actually fail. You get to fail and when you do its not a game over.
Now you may think that it blocks your from progressing but it doesn't, and its one more reason to replay the game to ... not fail where you did before.

Decent retro pixel point-and-click. It starts out looking and sounding pretty unpolished even for the genre, but the character writing makes up for it. I especially appreciate how there are multiple ways each case can end.

This game was refreshing in the point and click, mystery department for me. Some may not appreciate that you can get the answer wrong or lock yourself out of paths, but I found it interesting and more realistic (you can't just pick every option or you'll make characters upset). It wasn't too difficult to figure these out and get the best endings for each case. Make sure you save often if you pick this up!

I looked this up on my library again cause I wanted to see if there were new recommendations on Steam marked as similar to this game, and realized that I hadn't written a proper review for it. I loved this game SO much!!! It has absolutely everything a good point-n-click needs to have, and more: a great story, intuitive puzzles and some of the most memorable characters I've come across in a video game. Also, Lamplight City has the best implementation of an inclusive narrative that I know. If you enjoy games like Resonance, Gemini Rue, Oxenfree and the Blackwell series, that is, story-heavy graphic adventures that actually require you to use logic instead of combining random objects in your inventory, you'll love this one.
