welches ja ähnlich der Heroes of Might and Magic Reihe ist, ist eigentlich unverwüstlich.

Viele Karten kannte man schon.

Schade. Auch die neue Wikingerklasse hatte wenige
gute Einheiten.

One of the best in the series, along with Crossworlds. It has a weak point: the first boss (the Giant Spider) is too strong. But it is beatable. Save game money and reserve a savegame before preparing your troops. If stuck, the internet has some videos showing the way. The rest of the game is more balanced.

3rd game in the series that reuses a lot of the previous games (Legends and Crossworlds) assets. New monsters are largely re-skins of existing ones so if you're a fan of the King's Bounty series expecting fresh content this ain't it, chief. Nevertheless, if you enjoyed the previous entries you'll likely still enjoy this one as well. Encountered some game crashes while playing but was able to complete the game.

So! 417 hours is an awful long time to play a game and give it a thumbs down. Why?

TL;DR, the endgame is INSANELY buggy and completely killed my impossible, no loss completionist run.

The good:
The gameplay is classic KB gameplay. I've put a ton of time into the series so far, and it never gets old.
Exploration was fun.
The new viking units were neat to play with.
The callbacks to previous KB games were fun.
Many interesting characters to interact with.
The valkyries are pretty neat, and a nice twist from the previous companion systems.

The bad:
There's a lot of reused maps, but if it helps pad out the game it's not so bad.
A bit grindier than other KB games. Way more bosses that spam armageddon / geyseys, but not a huge deal.

The ugly:
Very, very many lategame crashes. Check the forums, and you see lots of people running into the same issues.
Can't upgrade / suppress items very late into the game, 100% crash.
Can't quicksave too frequently, or it'll crash.
Can't press buttons after quickly saving and loading, or the game will free requiring a restart.
The game sometimes randomly crashes on any save, resulting in a loss of progress for the previous battle.
Lots of broken side quests. It's very easy to get some sidequests in a non-workable state, or they just don't work at all.

I am excluding a good number of bugs that can be fixed via simple .lua fixes, and there are a TON. You can find them on 1C's official forums, as well as info on the other bugs.

If I had to summarize my experience, it was like having a gourmet meal that was absolutely delicious at the start, and eventually turned completely rotten. A good chunk of my 'gameplay' time was padded due to having to work around crashes / bugs, and despite me having a good time with a good portion of the game I gotta give it a thumbs down.

Great game... if you save often. Honestly this is probably the best of the King's Bounty games, thusfar.. except for the fact that it seems to leak GPU memory, and inevitably crashes after playing for a while.

This review is based on the base game and not the dlc, which I didn't know exsisted until finally beating this game recently. It simply is not as good as the other games in this series. The balancing is wonky and things seem far more padded out. For example, having to constantly go back and forth to replenish your army after each fight on a horse that takes a trillion years to cross the map. This takes far too long to do and happens far too often, especially when compared to Armored Princess, where the attrition rate and speed of replenishment seemed better balanced. Magic in this game is really hit or miss and certain spells were unavailable for purchase even though it was listed as available.

However my two biggest complaints with this game (warning spoilers) are:
1)
there are story sections in the game which delete your army and force you to rebuild a new one with different units. you don't get any compensation for your loss and if you liked the composition of your army, you were out of luck.
2)
At the end,you are forced to use the armies of NPC characters and not the one that the player had been carefully crafting for the final battles. This made the final part of the game far more difficult and annoying that nessisary. Why I was not allowed to use my own army is beyond me. (apperently they fixed this for the dlc version of the game, but I don't have that one)
I am a massive fan of the whole series.
Waiting on King's Bounty 2 I decided to revisit this one, I still absolutely love it - fun, good story, great humour, awesome mix of rpg and strategy. If you're a fan of HoMM (and I am, played all of them, I still play HotA) and you like rpgs at least to a certain extent - this is a perfect game for you.
I can definitely recommend, even in today's day and age.

Great game that got ruined by too many flaws.

I am a huge fan of the King’s Bounty series but King’s Bounty: Warriors of the North did disappoint for too many reasons. Although I really enjoyed the game the same way as the previous instalments, it turned into a chore after many hours. I will tell you why below.

The new concept of Warriors of the North is an exceptionally good one. I really liked the new Viking “race” and its new units, and the story line is well thought of. The idea of uniting all the different nations and fight for one single cause, the will to exist, is extraordinarily strong. I really loved the process of getting all the nations together and completing the required quests to do so. The final battles, where you fought as each individual King, Queen or leader against an undead general was epic. Really well done. It kept me interested all the time.

The Viking hero Olaf is also a lovable character, and, like the previous games, I could really empathize with him. His dialog was excellent, and the responses fitted his personality. It is the same as Bill Gilbert from the first game.

I have to say that this game is the most balanced of the series. The enemies are tough, yes, but they level equally with you, giving you a fair chance throughout the whole game, assuming you levelled correctly and invested in your skills.

The graphics of King’s Bounty: Warriors of the North are, once again, the same as the other games, but because of the rushed development they feel less appealing than the previous instalments. For example, the line raster of the ceiling in cave areas is always visible and there is a constant outline when light is shining upon characters or scenery.

The music disappointed a little. Although many of the great tracks from the previous games where there, it was just all over the place. Happy quiet forest music was playing during epic battles, epic battle music was playing during a quiet walk through the woods and the new “Viking” soundtracks sounded lame in my opinion, too happy and did not give me the feeling I was in a battle. Like I said, the fact that random soundtracks were playing during random events disappointed me. Also, in one cave, the 10 second “victory” soundtrack, which you get when winning a battle, was on repeat the whole time. It drove me nuts. So, at the auditory department, they screwed it up. My favourite soundtrack was only playing once, the epic battle soundtrack with the trumpets and stuff (https://www.youtube.com/watchv=esJr1waJ1mE&list=PL5052849DDF6C95A6&index=27), in a deserted castle with absolutely nothing to do.

But now the reason I do not recommend this game.

Technical reasons I do not recommend this game:

King’s Bounty: Warriors of the North is one of the most unstable games I played in my whole life. It crashed constantly at random moments; it drove me freaking insane! I wanted to complete the game (because I am a masochist) and needed to save every fart. Every step, every breath every blink of my eyes was saved on the Steam cloud because you never know when the game decides to give you the middle finger. I reinstalled the game, turned off the overlay (this was supposed to be a permanent fix), contacted Steam support but nothing helped. Crash, crash, crash.

The game is a total mess. It is FULL of grammatical errors and missing letters, programming codes are displayed when hovering over unit, artifact or hero information and whole words are spelled wrong.

After the sixth billion crash, achievements stopped working so a lot of hard to get ones were still locked in Steam. In the game itself, they unlocked fine. After reinstalling the game, they worked again but I am still missing at least 10 ones that are really hard to complete.

Gameplay reasons I do not recommend this game:

Quests are broken. Some are unfinishable, some require special items that are long gone or donated and sometimes, you half completed something but the game will not register it and still sends you to a person that does not want to talk to you.

Quests are misleading, vague, and never tell you what to do. Sometimes I needed to search on Google where the hell I needed to go.

The rushed development results in different areas you cannot go to. When entering Demonis, I saw a huge area at the north-west that I could not go to. Later, I found out that it is the map from previous King’s Bounty games that has been recycled and blocked off by a stupid volcano. Really? The Marshan Swamps is displayed with HUGE letters on the map but not once you go to it. It is just another recycled piece of the map.

They should have called this game “King’s Bounty: Delivery Boy of the North”. Never in my life have I walked back and forth more than in this game.

The paths to different areas are a disaster. There are few shortcuts, so this means endless, tedious walks to different parts of the world for replenishing your units or completing a quest. Whenever a dude said: “Hey bro, go to Demonis and talk to that guy”, I was like “Oh God no, please not that whole goddamn journey again…”.

The final battle was a joke. A huge joke. It was the easiest boss battle I have ever played in my whole life. I am used to the King’s Bounty series and the unforgiving, legendary difficulty, but this? I laughed my ♥♥♥ off.

I realize that the game was rushed and that the developers may not have enough time to finish the game properly, but it is still no excuse to charge us full price (at the time) for a barely functional piece of sh!t. It is unforgiving and an absolute disgrace that they released this crap in this state.

It is a shame, but all the above made King’s Bounty: Warriors of the North into a chore to finish. I hope the next one, Dark Side, will be much better.

Better luck next time.

Game crashes at weird moments. The English localization is generally speaking pretty bad and sometimes incomplete (names on sign tooltips missing). This is an obvious step back in quality compared to Armored Princess/Crossworlds, which is unfortunate because the story references a lot of what happened in previous games. Save often. Save in different slots (one crash either deleted or corrupted one of my non-autosave games); autosave doesn't happen often enough/at the right points to prevent frequent loss of progress.

Too many recycled units, locations, music and other content from previous entries.

Unnecessarily long campaign that can easily lose all appeal if you become overpowered early in the game. (Which isn't hard to do, you just need to pursue every side quest on the first couple of islands. The XP and abilities gained this way make you next to invincible.)

If you've never played a King's Bounty game, I would suggest pretty much any other entry in the series as your starting point.

Crashes randomly every 5-10 minutes. And that's not just me.

Keep your finger on the quicksave button and probably some timer to remind you to press it every 2 minutes.
I've tried on totally different hardware, with different Windows versions, probably different game versions and languages, with an interval of about 5 years. Crashing.
There's no fix. They fixed the skald crash, but it still crashes randomly even without skalds.
This game is old, so obviously it won't be fixed.
I've finished this finally, but I wouldn't recommend such technical torture to anyone. Play any other King's Bounty game, this is the only one with such problem.

great little time sinker, soundtrack is decent but can be loud at some points, some syntax and grammatical errors, but lets face it, you dont play this for the storyline. biggest issue is that the game crashes for no reason and does so randomly, sometimes while im trying to save my progress some times while im opening the map, just save your game frequently to avoid losing progress.

If you played King's Bounty game before, this one is simply more of same, some minor changes here and there like 4h spell class. Player classes are slightly reworked, for better IMO.
DLC adds new content, as well as troop XP system, where units can gains small stats boosts with prolonged use. It's well integrated, and I don't see any reason to play without it.

Firstly I do like the King's Bounty series and I consider Legends and Armored Princess to be among some of my favorite games.

BUT I do not think a sequel using the same engine with mostly the same assets as the previous is supposed to crash so damned often. Especially if the previous games were very stable and didn't have these issues.
Once every few days isn't great considering I payed for the bloody thing. But if it's every single day or even more than once a day then it's unacceptable.

Edit: Ok I think I've found some bug since I'm now getting consistent crashes from fighting 1 particular enemy group with Jotuns and whenever 1 Jotun is about to attack the game freezes and I get window pop up about what I think is an error with Jotun written there.

This should not be acceptable. I'm still amazed whenever I see Steam being able to sell broken games.

Edit 2 : The amount and frequency of the crashes really makes this a embarrassment of a product considering that I played the previous 2 games on the same PC with the same setup and they ran near perfectly.

I think I've had at least a dozen since starting this game.

There really is no excuse for Steam selling something like this and taking down others things that they just don't like.
Guess functionality isn't something the store owners care about and buying games, especially olders ones, is just a gamble the customers have to take.

Edit 3 : And now I've had 2 days without any crashes. I just don't understand this game. Is it the new units that are crashing the game? I've switched to the older human units and haven't crashed since.

Edit 4:
Right so a week or more without any crashes.

However the number of small bugs, the most common of which is the mouse over information before a attack being wrong about 25% or more of the time is getting weird.

I still don't understand how something that worked previously on the same engine could be broken and not get immediately fixed after finding out about it.

This being most likely my last edit I will say that I'm enjoying Warriors of the North quite a bit more than Dark Side but I'm still disappointed that a series that started so strong with the first game could devolve so much by what seems to be a rush to cash in this new found niche.
