first hour yep even face to face with the inevitable death the smile like Forest gump in vietnam, just like the minions....
one hour later: first Low Kerbal Orbit ...without any of the cute Canister heads died....
48 hours later: three satellites, two Spacestations and succesful landed on MÜN!
52 hours after that glorify achievment...MINMUS Landing and an asteroid scouting Satellite in SOL Orbit.
after 100 hours of Gameplay i didn't even leaved Kerbals sphere of influence but damn every step further fills my heart with pride and happiness. The feeling to build, launch, land and return your own Spaceship isn't describable.
next 100 hours, maybe Jool? who knows, maybe the secret is hidden on Laythe......

As a mentally disabled person I found this game to almost be Dark Souls hard. I remember countless failures at the launchpad, and countless Kerbals lost forever in orbit of Kerbin (let's not talk about the sub-orbital trajectories).
I remember almost giving up. Almost thinking, well, maybe this game isn't for me. That's not what this game is about though, to me anyways. I would go to bed dreaming of maybe landing on the Mun, seeing the sun rise along the horizon. I had to do it.
I never gave up. I kept trying. Persistently learning against my tiring wishes to quit.
I remember it so clearly: the Sun behind the Mun as I approached it for the first time. The eerie silence, adrenaline spiking, I was hooked for life.
Next thing I knew I was studying AP Physics in my high school. I aced the exams.
Next thing I knew I was studying College Maths/Sciences. I aced the Final on Math.
I will for the rest of my life, contribute that yearning for knowledge to KSP.
Looking forward to playing KSP 2 with my Fiance. It'll be her first KSP.
If you want a game that can change your life forever, you found it.

Calling it 'a game' makes it feel like it's in some way limited, like games are, you're always limited somehow, nothing is ever actually open world.
KSP is just different, I can't explain it and actually do it justice - you just have to play this absolute masterpiece.
Never bought the dlc (3000 hours and didn't need the dlc, yup), did mod the absolute crap out of it, which definitely added masses of content (life support, habitats, USI) i mean it really felt properly, actually limitless.
So you've been to all of the stock planets? Okay, well you can add other solar systems, or just a whole galaxy, why not! With a couple of mods you can turn ksp into elite or nms easily, then add in brutal realism survival, or light-speed star trek shenanigans.
Or you can stay on kerbin, and make a god damn fighter jet (complete with radar/laser guided weapons) and have a dogfight with an ai controlled enemy fighter jet while evading ground fire from tanks.
of course you can just turn it into surviving mars - life support mechanics, USI and all of the base building stuff, and bam you're there.. then there's all of the interconnected resource chains and suddenly its factorio.
Set up a series of mining bases on the moon of an exoplanet in an adjacent solar system, send refined resources to an orbital station via a small transport freighter, and exchange minerals for required supplies.
KSP is one of the really unique ones that creates memories, I had one playthrough composed of a self sufficient extrasolar colony (easily a 300+ hour save), orbital infrastructure, mining drones harvesting asteroids, it was utterly ridiculous and i'll never forget it.
Or the now legendary, infamous accidental press of the space bar that launched a week long series of rescue operations. Rapid testing of new designs, frantically trying to determine an approach while accounting for fuel reserves for the return journey, is there even enough air for both of them to make it?
KSP is an absolute masterpiece. My favourite game of all time by far. I've decided to buy the dlc

So, almost 10 years later, 2,000+ hrs sunk into this game, and I'm still playing this.
Steam wants to know if I recommend this game. I would say yea, I would recommend it.

It's as hard as you want it to be. It may be hard to get the hang of it in the beginning, but once you get the jist of it, the possibilities are endless.
You can set yourself a challenge and make it infinitely hard for yourself if you want to.
Want to go to the mun? Sure, that's fun. But what if I bring a BOAT to the mun????
Want to build a satellite? OK, but let's make it B I G.
You make the rules.
Even within Kerbin, the planet you launch from, you can decide to ruin your day by deciding to build a working aircraft carrier. The feeling when you succeed is always worth it.

It doesn't matter if you like physics, space, designing rockets or planes, as long as you like building stuff and blowing it up, you're going to enjoy this game.
You can make it to orbit with barely any knowledge, and after a short guide or video, to the Mun.
Yes, your creations will blow up over and over but eventually you will get the basics and after that reaching low earth orbit will be really easy, then the real challenge begins: docking, making stations, going to other planets, refueling, etc.
For those who prefer to stay on earth, planes and land vehicles are a thing in this game, in fact I started building planes before attempting to make a rocket. But unless you mod it, there are not as many parts as rockets have.
Lots of way to challenge yourself and there are a lot of mods that expand on this amazing game so you can pretty much create any vehicle you want.
KSP is a game that has something for almost everyone, give it a try.
For certain reasons I can not disclosure, I have way more hours in this game than what steam says I do.
(Probably more than 1000h)

Due to simulating realistic orbital mechanics and physics, its not the easiest game to get into. the ingame tutorials are ok for the basics, but not much more. If you whant to purcase this game, just prepare to watch a lot of youtube tutorials.
Also, due to the game being released in 2015 the graphics aren't comparable with modern games, but the devs have worked on improving the surfaces of the planets.
All in all its still a very fun game to play with a lot of uniqueness.
I personaly would recomend purcasing the dlc's if you played a bit and enjoy the game.
you could also wait for the KSP 2 release presumably next year if graphics are that important to you.

Except that I keep seeing this gleaming object in the distance. At first I thought it might be space junk and I had actually almost hit some. Except every time I launched I kept seeing this thing - and I gradually realized it was pretty predictable and nothing in close orbit. So I checked the map and realized that Kerbin had TWO moons, not one. I was astounded. I had almost stopped playing. How many others were there? I zoomed out even further and realized there was a whole system to explore. I went and bought it that day.

In the extremely remote possibility that anyone might actually read these words (the game's been out for many, many years), you can probably *assume* that if ANYONE has played ANY game for 1000 hours, they *probably* like it (and would therefore recommend it) or they are absolutely whacko for doing something they actually wouldn't recommend for others... and did so for 1000 h o u r s ...
I'll let you, oh wise reader, decide.

1. It's very hard. The learning curve is steep, however the reward is an immense sense of accomplishment that comes from your progress. While the physics aren't perfect, the implementation of the core concepts of rocketry and flight are very much rooted in reality. This will lead an invested player in developing a very real, gut-level understanding of both atmospheric flight as well as the orbital mechanics of space flight.
2. It gets out of your way and allows you to enjoy the purest elements of the game in a few ways. In sandbox mode, you are free to just revel in the gameplay itself in the purest form. Lacking in-game narrative, you may find yourself tinkering endlessly, or, as your skills as a pilot grow, pursuing your own goals and populating your system with stations, settlements, and crafts, without relying on the carrot dangling provided by the career mode. However, should you choose the career mode, you can choose to have your skills developed in a more linear fashion as you tick boxes for your clients in order to expand your parts inventory while you slowly tackle increasingly ambitious and frustrating missions.
3. It is incredibly moddable. With a small amount of skills as a programmer you can begin to tweak the game and its environment even more. You can script complex tasks to improve the pilotability and ease of use of your vehicles in ways that very much echo real world aeronautical advances.
4. It is impossble to master. at nearly 1600 hours, I still feel like I've accomplished so little since 2012. As someone who has played thousands of hours of multiple Civ titles, I tend to play the heck out of a small list of games, and for a game to make that list for me it must be hard, and it must be vast in scope and ambition.
Why might this game not be for you?
First, if you want to turn off your brain while you game this isn't that. If you aren't intellectually curious by nature you may be slow to gain insights that make this game so fun. If you get frustrated easily and rage quit when faced with adversity, this probably isn't for you. If you are only a very casual user of computers you may struggle with some of the modding and may inadvertently create frustrating stability issues for yourself that can be tedious to solve if you lack the experience to troubleshoot. If you are only a very casual gamer, this probably isn't worth the time you may need to get beyond a frustrating crash-simulator. If you don't like to read, you may miss out on many of the online resources available in support of this game. If you require a strong story-line in order to become immersed, that is not what drives this game.

Well, yes.
IF anyone has ever wondered what it's like to be an astro..muppet or work for NASA, this is a fine place to start.
Flying space ships? Check.
Building Space ships? Check
Docking SpaceShips? Check
SCIENCE! Check
Financial simulation? Check, but you can turn it off.
Accidentally firing your Kerbals off into eccentric orbits around Kerbol (The Sun) and having to put together rescue missions which invariably go wrong, stranding yet more of your googly eyed test subj....employees in bizarre orbits? Check!

I'm still early on in the game, but I love how there's so many approaches to do different things. For example, I got pretty annoyed how my rescue probe lost control behind the Mun while on a mission. Solved it by launching two additional relay probes in a wide orbit and right angle offset from one another around the Mun. Not a massive flex compared to what is possible when you look at videos online. But I'm very happy with it myself so far :)
Game is maybe a bit of a niche, but really good fun if you're interested in Space Exploration.
