A game that you can finish within 2-4 hours. The game has very weird absurd humor and puns. This game is like one of those rpgmaker x walking simulator, where walking is 30% of content, but they put so much other stuff so it does not feel boring. I did feel pointless playing this but i got it on sale, so nothing feels like a waste.
I played this back in 2015 and re-experiencing it was a good memory lane for me.

This game is hilarious, really weird, nonsensical, and an absolute blast to play.
Just over 4 hours in, and I have so much left to do and find.
Don't expect a deep story- the game really is a fantastical ride through lalaland.
Just play it when you need to make yourself sick laughing for hours.
And play without any guides- I know I am missing achievements, but not knowing when one will pop up because you did something totally ridiculous is best. I do like to 100% games when i can, so I am sure I will go back through after I complete all chapters to pick up missed achievements. And I'll likely use a guide then. But for now, i am just having too much fun messing around with everything I can.
Cheaper than a movie, and a whole lot more fun.
I have no issue with full price on this one. Worth it to me, and I am not even close to being done yet.
On sale? YES! Grab it if you need to just have some chaotic silliness in your life. :)

It tells a spy story with an old school feeling (there's jazz, some of Blade Runner, a dash of James Bond and even a bit of Scotland). The story is absurd, yes, but everything is very well connected, everything makes sense in this ridiculous world.
If you're looking for something informal and really absurd to relax and have a few laughs, it's a great option.
P.S. : It's short, just about 2 or 3 hours.

The game oozes charm and you can tell that the developers put a lot of love into the product.
However, the big draw back for me is the price: £10.99 is too much for what the game has to offer. Don't get me wrong, the game is fun, but it's a bit too short and has no replay value in order to warrant that price. I'm aware that my account says 7 hours played, but that includes being idle and doing other stuff whilst the game is open, in reality the game took me about 4-5 hours to beat, see practically everything and get all achievements. I also messed about a bit with the Wedding Quake mode (which is just a free-for-all quirky deathmatch mode, it's a fun little distraction for a short while).
I got the game on a sale, I payed £3.07 for both the game and the dlc, if I payed full price for it I would come out disappointed.
Ultimately, I think people should play this game as it is a good time and a good laugh, but I highly recommend waiting for a sale. But if money's no object and you have lots of it to burn then I say go ahead and take some of that sweet sweet Missionoyl.

An acid trip journey that is sure to make you smile at the end
It is the Cold War. Corporate espionage, undercover agents and sentient robots are everywhere. You are a man named Polyblank. Working underneath your boss, The Director, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to act against the Soviet, utilizing whatever way necessary to tilt the war in your favor.
Gameplay
Jazzpunk is played from a first person perspective. The missions are divided into different levels that took place at a wide variety of exotic locales, ranging from a lovely Tiki resort to a luxurious penthouse to
the Matrix simulation itself
. You’re given specific objectives at the beginning of each mission. Of course, you can roleplay a secret agent and complete them as efficient as possible, but you’d miss half of the content in this game.
Story
Being a game set during a perilous time period, you’d expect Jazzpunk to be a serious, gritty story-driven drama with a gray morality. Except it’s really not. In fact, it’s pretty much the complete opposite, being a comedic satire that simply aims to make you laugh. Or scratch your head in confusion.
The jokes in this game are very, very peculiar. The NPCs speaks using mad-libs dialogue with topics that are completely disjointed with each other. A lot of the jokes involve taking statements literally or a play on words, which for me, are intentionally designed to be as wacky as possible. Besides that, humans are not the only species you’ll encounter, as robots and talking animals are plentiful as well.
Despite that, I’d say the game managed to nail the Cold War atmosphere fairly well. Magazines can be found everywhere spouting propaganda in a comedic way while Polyblank regularly uses a bunch of eccentric equipment such as a launcher that shoots bacteria or a remote-controlled gravy cup. One part even have you
disgusing as a blonde bombshell
.
Apart from that, Jazzpunk is choke-full of references to other popular movies, TV shows and videogames (my personal pick is the double-reference name ‘Wilhelm Dafoe’ in the credits). There’s too much to list so I’m just going to attach this guide. All credits goes to the creator, of course.

If you’d want to jump into this game, here’s my advise: go in as blind as possible. Not knowing what abnormal events the game is going to throw at you around the corner is the best way to fully experience this gem. Expect the unexpected.
Gameplay (cont.)
Part of Jazzpunk’s charm is the ridiculous amount of interactive objects that you can grab, poke, consume, etc. You can pay from the vending machines selling unorthodox cans of beverages, eat foods that are definitely not meant for human consumption, and even talk to a living cardboard box. Yes, that’s a thing.
I mentioned earlier than this is a first-person adventure game, but scattered around the world are tons of optional minigames that delve into different genres. Some are recreation of old-school games (Space Invaders, Frogger, Street Fighter, etc) while others are more unique such as golfing, wrestling, and VR tennis.
Multiplayer
Didn’t expect that, didn’t you? Yea, there’s a multiplayer mode called Wedding Cake (Quake reference, by the way) which is a standard arena shooter where you can play with 4 of your friends (with splitscreen) or against AI bots. Custom matches can be created where you can tweak the time limit, required kills and numbers of opponents.
None of my friends own this game, so I hopped in solo. It’s pretty much what you’d expect; maps are large and full of alternate pathways while the weapons are extremely weird such as a champagne bottle that fires corks or a can of whipped cheese cream. Unfortunately, because the servers are dead, there’s little reasons to jump into this mode.
Length and Replayability
It took me 6.4 hours in total to complete the game, including messing around with the multiplayer a couple of times. As you can see, this is a relatively short game; therefore, I suggest you buy it at a sale instead.
As for replayability, it varies. If you somehow able to drag your friends to join in on the multiplayer, then there’s decent amount. Otherwise, the game is designed for a one-time-only experience, so no.
Achievements
24 achievements in total. Most of them just requires you to mess around with the game world, so it should be a walk in the park.
The Rest
- A few interactions will jumpscare you. I admit that they got me real good.
- One mandatory section has you capturing spiders that are rendered realistically. This might turn off some people.
- No fall damage here. You can jump from a three-storey building and Polyblank will just bounce harmlessly.
- There's chapter select in the menu screen, making achievements hunting easier.
Verdict
I'll say it again: this game is really freaking weird. But being weird is exactly what it wants to be. It doesn't try to have a deep, philosophical storyline. It doesn't have an addicting gameplay loop. It doesn't attempt to pad out its length to unbearable amounts. Jazzpunk just wants you to laugh, and to me, it succeed in doing that.

The first level was fine, but eventually the onslaught of pop culture references, along with the lack of any substance in the interactions or mini-games made a short game feel tedious.
It's well made for what it is. It's absurd. I respect those qualities.
But I didn't like it.
Maybe you will, or maybe you already have.
But not me.

Even if the game hadn't softlocked on me many times, the game is still embarrassingly short. Get it on sale or go watch the playthroughs on Youtube. It goes on sale fairly frequently for 75% off. I'd recommend you get it on sale. This game is not worth 12,50€.

With that minor concern out of the way, this game is exactly what it sets out to be: strange and hilarious. If you like surreal memes, whimsical childish silliness, bizarre popculture references and general shenanigans, you will love this game. This game brought me joy and I'm sure it will bring you joy as well.

1. A way more intelligent, way less violent Postal.
2. A game where you can give Hunter S. Thompson a drunken kiss while being a man disguised as a woman.
Yes, it's also a Cold War spy thriller spoof, but it's mostly about you running around poking into things and people seeing how they will react to that. It's intentionally absurd, and its absurdity is of a random, not really artistic nature. However there are dozens of small functional mechanics in this game - none of them are particularly good or meaningful, but together the slew of them create an impression of absolute interactive revelry.
The music and the style though are elaborate and wonderful - a perfect throwback to the era. Bongos and sax rule this silly absurd world.
The absurd is where the most laughs come from, because the humor here... Well, every little thing is either a joke or a pop culture reference. So natually, most of the thirty five gazillions of local jokes are misses. Some are real gems though.
At the beginning I couldn't stop grinning at the unbridled freedom, sense of style and confident silliness of Jazzpunk, but towards the end of my five hour run I was growing tired of it.
Totally worth it for that kiss though.
PS
For a same but different species of absurd visit the Off-Peak series.

The robot puns are off the wall incredible. I didn't know you could even make so many.
The game is wild and wacky, but makes just enough sense not to confuse you in the process. It's about being funny. If you don't find it funny, you won't enjoy it. Thankfully, it's really funny. Most jokes are hit instead of miss.

The game is set in an alternate version of the 50s, with most of the action taking place in the United Prefectures of Japanada. It starts easy with an infiltration to the Soviet Consulate in order to retrieve an important cartridge, but soon enough, as Polyblank gets sent on vacation, a deeper, more sinister plot is unraveled. Of course, the game is all very tongue-in-cheek, parodying not only old spy films, but also science fiction (mostly cyberpunk/dystopian). It also has minigames referencing other videogames.
As the name implies, the soundtrack is composed of jazzy tunes; a really good soundtrack if you ask me. And as I mentioned above, the art style is pretty unique, helping with the game's bizarre nature. Now, a word of advice: the game uses flashing images a lot, so if you're epyleptic, or simply get headaches with too many flashing lights, you should take caution before playing this game. While I'm not epyleptic myself, it did give me a few headaches here and there.
Anyway, I recommend this game. I had great fun with it, even though it's not really hard.
