Pains me to say it, but not worth your money at all unless something serious changes. I hope it does. I've owned it and played since way back when it first came out, and aside from some new mechanics that seem interesting like leaning or a few more bot scenarios, it seems like the same exact game almost 9 years later. Best of luck to it, maybe they will reboot it with a sequel and give all previous owners keys. One can hope, I dont want this to be the end of the Interstellar Marines.

IM has decent gunplay, excellent sound, terrific atmosphere. But not much in terms of new content or news. It's slow(I don't want to say dead).
We've had 4 game modes for.a while:
Warzone the newest mode, is 64 player pvp. It's 9 areas with different environments and at the edge of the areas are doors that connect you to the next area. Unsure if each warzone match is just 9 servers connected together or if one instance.holds all 64 people but it's fascinating on a technical level for me. And it's fun to fight people and the AI bots in the way as you work for victory.
2 story missions: 4p coop against bots, with items to pickup to open doors. Fun the first few times.
Single area TDM somewhat like warzone except no AI. The weather changes, so one moment the chamber is fine, with light. The next moment it's dark, and pouring rain.
Bot elimination: same areas as the single area TDM, but it's 4p against a group of bots. Think of it like tango hunt from the rainbow six series.
Early Access can be a double edged sword. This game is on the edge that cuts you when you grab at it. Which is a shame because time killed this more than any content or mechanics did..

Anyway, the developer of this was stupid, they struck gold with some amazing visuals, attention to detail and excellent sound design, but rather than stop there and leverage that amazing atmosphere to create a really great co op horror game, the idiot developer wanted to make a very serious Battlefield style game.

From what I remember, I played this more than the 1.2 hours Steam says I did, but I will make sure to play it a bit more in the future. I won't be expecting much content, but I just bought the game for my girlfriend and we will see if there's still some fun to be had here, which I'm quite sure there is.
I can only imagine what an amazing game this would've been if it had been completely finished.

It started back when I purchased the game a long time ago, on a different computer. I forced my Intel Family Graphics to run the title, and enjoyed every moment I was able to squeeze out, if even for the most minute amount of time. When the comp inevitably died, I was MIA from PC gaming for several years, before getting a decent up to date PC in early 2020.
One game that had constantly been in the back of my mind since has been Interstellar Marines. The idea sprouted up to me to try it out after such a long time, especially since taking courses in game development. I dug it out of my steam library, installed it, and tried it out. I figured there'd be nobody online, since it'd been so long, and was heartbroken to see the events that had unfolded since I'd been gone from Steam. Nevertheless, the gameplay? It was very satisfying.
There's something about having a physical HUD and helmet laid over your screen. It adds a tactile feeling of really being in the environment and being safeguarded by this advanced suit of armor against the horrifying robotic menace present in the level I'd played. Not to mention the satisfactory audio it emits as you fiddle with it, with an ever-so-awesome mechanical hiss as it seals to your suit. Makes you feel like a total bada**. Finally seeing it realized like I'd hoped for it to be when I was much younger and grinding out on 15-20 fps took me back a bit.
The weapons have a keen sense of modern modularity while also maintaining hints of a 1980s sci-fi style in certain aspects. The Assault Rifle given to the player gives me Halo vibes, and I enjoy the inclusion of the Kriss style system in the design. The SMG you start with straight up gave me flashbacks to my younger days playing Killzone 2 & 3. The sound design is decent as well, though I wish the weapons had a bit more punch to them. The reloads give a good clunky mechanical feeling, with the bolt release sending the message home that you're handling quite the sturdy piece of tactical hardware meant for the hardened starside warfighter. The gear, for what it is, works out. The models work for what they are, but could do with some pouches in my humble opinion. Pouches and some of that oh-so-sweet future-y laser-cut webbing. But I digress.
It's almost amazing to me to think a product like this was put out on such a dated version of Unity. I wonder how the project would fare in a more modernized engine, like say UE4, or even 5 with the Nanite system to really bring out the awe in the solid orbital structures everywhere. But that's not my call - that's the developer, of which there is only one it appears. Now, there are also a number of volunteers as well, it seems, and it gave me a breath of relief to see that the game was still fighting on. If you didn't know, there is a page available and open to all for you to track the progress they're making, and I've seen a few pings from 2020 and 2021.
It's unclear whether any of the dev or volunteer personnel check the reviews for this page anymore, why would they? I hardly blame them. However I do hope they can gather their strength and push on. Remember what happened to No Man's Sky? I wouldn't say it if I didn't believe it - but if Interstellar Marines picks up momentum again, this could be an amazing science fiction tactical FPS that the market could surely use right now. It's not ARMA, it's not Halo, it's not COD. It's an animal of its own. It's the lone squad of Colonial Marines in the midst of a slow and terrible bug hunt, outnumbered and outgunned, and even though it seems like the odds are all stacked against them, I can safely say I'm rooting for them. And I'm sure many others are too.

PITY PARTY ASIDE THOUGH the gameplay is pretty smooth and looks pretty good for 2013, and I hope that a pistol model gets added sometime lmao so I can actually use the pistol happily
I made this review more in the hopes that ZPS Hicks reads it and it gives him a bit more determination. Everything will be fine in the end, dude, don't give up, and keep safe. ♥

I've personally talked to the dev many times over about this game and it's scope, course and development.
It's sad to see things went south and he is working on this mostly alone, it's his dream to complete this game and I feel that. He has so much passion to this game but it is so sad to see that it's stuck where it is now.
This game has great immersion, gunplay, sound design and tactics. Even the way the lighting is done is satisfying, the shadows and immersion of the ambiance is insane on this game.
The robots that are hiding in the dark or running around relentlessly get me spooked every single time and that's very rare for me there is just something about this game that keeps you on your toes.
I love everything about it but we are missing so so much that was promised to come...
I'll be waiting... One day this might be completed. <3
My advise to you is if you are getting this game: Try to have 4 friends to play it with it's pretty much a must. If you really wanna be scared for your life, try to play this alone with headphones in the dark, it is intense.

Just know that when people we're playing it, it was an awesome, fresh, engaging, and a forward thinking twist on tactical shooters. Brilliantly fun as the games naturally evolve as players adapt and counter with a techie/tactical feel. But it ends there, the game is dead and it's potential with it. It was Squad/Tarkov. Now go play one of those instead.

Over 7 years the devs have done functionally nothing with a game that should by all merits have ended up fantastic. The movement is paced wonderfully, the gunplay is fun, the HUD is clean, the helmet system is engaging, and everything about it feels *right* in a way that very few FPS games tend to feel right to me. And so far, 7 years after being put on Steam, the game is still in early access. There's functionally no playerbase, the devs haven't even made a post on their twitter in over a year officially, and updates have always been few and far enough between that I've never felt the need to reinstall it since the first couple of times I played.
This game is fantastic in concept, but the execution seems entirely without vision, and without an actively engaged developer it's hard to say that the game will ever end up being anything more than what it currently is; a barebones shooter that performs nicely, but with substance.
If you want a sorta-kinda co-op game, and you really like FPS games, you can get this. For $10 it isn't the worst game you could spend your money on. But I wouldn't recommend rewarding inactive and absent devs with cashflow that they frankly haven't earned as of yet.

I remember being really involved in the forums and having chats with devs and other new players.
It was really fun and the Devs were really interactive with the community.
That was 7 years ago.
I reinstalled the game last year and found a couple of new single player levels but they were really just 'testing dummys' running around a compound and it was not super fun.
I am really sad that this game has made so little progress and I am sure the Devs are guttered too.
This is the game that has given me trust issues when it comes to early access games

“In June 2016 we started looking for a publisher/investor to fund the completion of Interstellar Marines: Aspiration and help us release out of Early Access on Steam and port it onto PS4 and Xbox One consoles. Once we have finalized an investment/publishing agreement, we estimate 17 months from that date until Interstellar Marines: Aspiration is completed. We're extremely honored to spend this time with you, the player, and share the experience all the way from pre-alpha to the release.”

Other Early Access titles at least throw their players a bone by saying they've stopped working on a project and (sometimes) remove their games from the Store. Zero Point Software however, keeps this product on the store with little to no progress to show for the year 2020 alone. The last update video was over a year ago with some seasonal events sprinkled in.
There was (and still is I guess if you're a hopeless optimist) a lot of potential for the title. Playing the Neurogen Incident the first time gave me an immediate Star Wars: Republic Commando feeling, except it was a lot more stressful, it was scarier, and slower. Unfortunately the devs at some point made a directional shift towards competitive multiplayer when they should have honed in on the single player/co-op missions instead. Now the devs need a publisher (not gonna happen, prove me wrong) who's willing to dump money into a project that has no clear direction.
I haven't played G.T.F.O. but from gameplay I've seen, it's worth it's 30 dollar price tag instead of this game's 10 dollar price tag.

In short? Nothing has happened at all. This game has been in 'early access' for SEVEN YEARS now, and there have been no updates after the first couple of years, nothing significant anyway. Apparently, from what I've read, there's only one active developer left, as everyone else departed and went to other projects.
Don't buy this game, it will never get finished unless more active developers are re-introduced into the project, which is not likely to happen; no one wants to waste their time working on a game few have heard of that is years and years behind schedule.

Fast forward to today and the team that remained are still working on it in their free time. Think of it as modders trying to complete a project and that's where they're at. Will this become the next No Man's Sky revival? Maybe, maybe not. But I commend them for trying and I do want to see what becomes of it in the end. Perhaps it can become a community project to fill in the manpower gap?
