This game expects you to drive perfectly from the start. It feels like the developers took the perfect lap time for a course, added 1 second and that's how you have to drive. Duels? Loss after 1 mins. I don't even know how to catch up in time. The opponents just accelerate like mad and are gone after the 2nd turn.
The story mode is ok, but bland dialogues and repetive challenges. Sometimes you have to drive 2 ghost matches back to back on the same course.
The dual stick controls are amazing and it feels great. The graphics and music is great too, but it really needs either an EASY MODE or the normal difficulty adjusted for the casual driver who just wants to have some fun instead having to sink in dozens of hours just to perfect each course.

I would argue that this game is for those who enjoy torturing yourself as a threat because this one hard to master.
The graphics are stunning, the ost, ingame car models looks nice, the city, canyons, highways are top notch.
Just wish there was free roam mode for both singleplayer & online mode.

Intro
Inertial Drift is easily one of the most unique racing games I've ever played. Forget about all you know about drifting in Ridge Racer, this game completely changes the control scheme, in favor for something that controls like no other racing game. If you're on the fence about this game, try out the Sunset Prologue demo and see if it's for you.
Positives
+ Great soundtrack.
+ Unique control scheme.
+ Good racetrack level design.
+ Every car controls differently.
+ Great aesthetics and graphics.
+ Game eases newcomers to the unique control scheme.
Negatives
- Visually repetitive. As great as the game looks, it'd be nice if there was a change in time of day, once in a while.

Everything here works together as a beautiful cohesive whole. The neon-drenched art is complimented by a banging soundtrack, the game drips with style. The gamefeel is *chef's kiss*, obviously a lot of time went into making the cars handle just right. There are limited tracks, but they're expertly tuned to compliment the racing mechanics, I never found myself bored with the offering. To compliment that solid core, there is a plethora of modes and challenges that add replayability and challenge over time.
The one thing that surprised me most, I'd say, is the mechanical depth and variety that come from the different car types. The developers over at Level 91 thoroughly plumbed the depths of the core twin-stick drifting system to deliver an experience that feels fresh with each car I experimented with.
Ultimately, this game is about mastery. Like most racing games, it demands perfection through repeated play. Unlike other racers, the personal progression I made felt consistent and rewarding. I know why I made up or lost 1.5 seconds and I can clearly feel the progress I'm making with each race.
Bottom line: If you like arcade racers, drifting, mechanical depth, challenge, and style, this labor of love is for you. Congrats L91, you smashed it.

▶️Introduction
Inertial Drift is an Indie arcade racer developed by Level 91 Entertainment and published by PQube Limited. The game is set in a cyberpunk styled world. You race against holograms, and then against the real drivers. The game also aims to change the entire concept of drifting using their unique “twin-stick” controls.
Pros ???? and Cons ????
????Positive aspects | ????Negative aspects |
---|---|
Refreshing drifting mechanics. | Game doesn’t really get any more difficult. |
Lots of easy to get achievements for all of the completionists! | If you pause the game, and then decide to resume you will have no timer at all. |
Multiple characters with different goals and strengths! | |
Many other modes to play. |
This review contains no spoilers.
????Gameplay
As mentioned above, the game features a unique way of drifting. Using a regular Xbox Controller I was able to experience all of the downs, and lows of this unique control pattern. The left analogue stick controls your front wheels, you can simply use it to steer just like in every racing game out there, although there is something you should know. Normal steering is basically a waste of time in this game, as you’re meant to drift around corners, so surprisingly enough drifting around a corner makes a lot more sense than the usual way someone would approach cornering. That brings me to the right analogue stick. It serves the purpose of rear wheel-steering. This is actually the more important button to use as steering which might require a little getting used to. After playing around for 7 hours I can confirm that the drifting mechanics are a blast to play around with. As a guy that has wasted thousands of hours on a variety of arcade, sim-cades, and racing sims I was genuinely surprised how refreshing the experience was. Learning a new way to control the vehicle is simply amazing.
https://youtu.be/QwsocpIgx7Q
Another area where this game gave me a new experience is how much different each car behaves. Rarely have I seen a game that differentiates each car with so much detail regarding their driving mechanics. Every car has different stats, meaning some cars have better acceleration, while others have better top speed. But that isn’t what I meant with a different feeling, all of the cars have different drift mechanics, some feel a lot more agile, easier to engage a drift, easier to balance the car and so on. Along with the different cars you get multiple tracks that can match nicely along with some specific cars strengths.
The title offers multiplayer races, challenges, quick races, and even split-screen! The game offers a lot of content and many different modes where you can test yourself against other players or the AI as well. Lobbies aren’t that active anymore, I tried many times to find an online match but had no success. Luckily I was in the position to play some split-screen races with some friends and let me tell you it really gave me a throwback vibe! Not many games offer split-screen nowadays!
One minor issue I had is the fact that after completing the game for a specific character you will then have the inconvenience that the game feels a lot easier with other characters later on. Played the game three more times with the other characters on “Xtra Crispy” difficulty and it felt way too easy compared to the first playthrough. Another minor gameplay issue is that the game doesn’t offer a countdown after pausing the game. There were multiple occasions where I returned after pausing the game and I simply got catapulted onto a wall because I had no time to prepare myself. Other than these small issues I was very impressed with the game, it was truly a unique experience allowing me to “break out” of that usual racing stuff where every game just feels the same to some extent.
For all of the achievement hunters here. This game is actually pretty easy to complete!
????Story
No spoilers ahead!
The story is the usual street racer story we have seen many many times, although it is a lot more family-friendly. You simply see some drivers try to improve their skills on the streets using holograms as training. The opponents are basically ghosts as well, as you cannot hit them. Each character offers a unique two or maybe three-hour story. Yes, I said unique, I was actually quite surprised that each character had a different goal and agenda in their story, different dialogues, and even different friendships and relations with each other. If you so try to complete the story with all of the four characters, you will need around six to seven hours, simply because the game gets a little easier with time!
????Graphics / Audio
The game makes use of the Unity game engine!

⚙️Performance
In Game
Average framerate: 140.6 FPS
Minimum framerate: 122.2 FPS
Maximum framerate: 144.2 FPS
The Main Menu was pretty organized and easy to navigate through, the same goes with the UI. Everything looked clean, lap times and current speed weren’t tiresome to the eye to look at, which is often an issue with some racing games.
Lastly, I had no issues using a 1st generation Xbox Controller at all. You can use the keyboard, although I would be against that as it feels pretty bad to drive using a keyboard in this game.
[/list]
⚖️Conclusion
Inertial Drift is an excellent indie arcade racer! It is one of the most refreshing experiences I’ve had in a long time. The gameplay is simply an ace, the story isn’t really that impressive, but it can easily keep you entertained for quite some hours. Other than the story, it offers many more modes where you can test yourself and your friends! The game simply offers everything that anybody would like to see in an arcade racer and I cannot recommend this game enough!

The pacing of the game feels very solid too, You can do whatever you want whenever but to get the most out of it it wants you to run story mode through all the different cars to get used to them, then unlock all the cars you raced against in the challenges, beat the grand prix in every car, and then by that point you should be so well acquainted with the game that hitting mean leaderboard times in arcade should be easy which is where im at rn.

Gameplay:
One of biggest strengths of Inertial Drift are the drift physics, the physics is a bit arcady, each Car has different handling, acceleration, and top speed, but you have more control of your Car when you drift with both analog stick. It takes a while to get used to the mechanics.
Vehicles in Inertial Drift are custom modeled, and mostly inspired by real life Cars, eg. like 'Coda Supreno' is based on 'AE86'.
There are variety of modes:
• Story Mode,
• Arcade (solo),
• Grand Prix (Limited time Tournament),
• Online Multiplayer and Split-Screen,
• Challenge Mode, (helps you unlock new cars like the AE86.)
There are many race modes, like Practice Race, Ghost Battle, Circuit, Drift Style, Dual, & Endurance Race.
Level Design:
Most race tracks are inspired by Neo Tokyo with beautiful scenery.
There are a few flaws with the race tracks, some race tracks are well design for drifting, and some race tracks are just simple racing tracks.
Performance:
On my PC runs smoothly at 200+ FPS
Minor Issues:
Non
Cons:
• After many hours of understanding how the handling works in this game, most race tracks feels like regular racing circuits in other games, because I can just cut any corner without drifting or having any penalty.
• It's a bit hard to navigate in some areas due to lack of mini-map.
• Doesn't have a match list for online, you're forced to a quick queue.
Overall:
Inertial Drift is worth buying if you love arcade games like Need For Speed or a fan of Initial D.
There are minor flaws, and it will take sometime to get used to the handling, If you want play with your friends through 'Remote-play together'/split-screen or just want to have a fun arcade racing game to chill, Inertial Drift is really worth your money :).

I put 30 hours into the demo
it's kinda hard though mostly because I chose to drive more difficult cars
Highly reccomend
I suggest devs put in a non-competitive mode where there isn't a UI or a ghost you don't have to race or anything and you just vibe and drive but the game is amazing
I wish the game got the recognition it deserves

The left stick is for turning and the right for controlling the drift. But, there's no chance these cars would be street legal in real life, they barely turn. The mechanic is easy to understand, has a high skill ceiling, and it's fun. The dual-stick controls give the player an incredible amount of authority over the drift. And you're going to need it since there's a giant difference between every car in the game. Some of them are crazy drifters making them more challenging to control but can perform better on the track.
Keep in mind there are no car collisions in Inertial Drift. The focus is strictly on completing the fastest lap or couple of laps.
You get a solid story line for 4 characters but there are even more characters to play in the other modes. It's a large selection and all the cars handle differently.
Overall, Inertial Drift is a great arcade racer and it's my kind of game. The only way it could be better is if they included more content.

These twin stick controls are very handy for drifting and easy to master.
Graphically the game is a bit neon / futuristic inspired, together with the nice soundtrack this comes out very well with the high speed action.
the game offers the players a fairly high range of up to 16 vehicles to race with around 20 routes over various different locations.
Also included are several single player modes and online multiplayer.
You can also play the game via split screen or remote play together.

It's a really good arcade racing/drift game !
Imagine the visual style of Auto Modellista the drift insanity of Ridge Racer, add some Initial D references here and there and boom you get Inertial Drift.
They improved the controls and fine tuned the physics just a bit to make it way more enjoyable compared to the early demo.
The gameplay is great and very original, it might take some time to get used to it but once mastered it's an absolute blast to play !
Nice graphics, well designed tracks (though there's only 20 tracks including reverse afaik) with just the right ammount of corners, many different cars and tons of game modes.
Now few minor things i dislike but that's just my personal opinion:
No interior cameras, only one exterior camera available, needs more options for that IMO.
No photo mode or replay in a game that looks so gorgeous, a shame !
I'm not a fan of the childish cartoony style for the characters in story mode.
The engine sounds for the cars are not great.
Also i think the music is not really good, will for sure switch to some eurobeat lol.
Great game, well recommended.

A racing game which focuses on drifting. There is quite a lot of things to do as there are several different game modes to play and ways to play them. The story mode is good, have a visual novel kind of style where you converse with other people and then partake in some racing. There are challenges, arcades and grand prix where you can go through and unlock more cars. Even within, more various modes are able to be played from time attacks, races and duels. Of course, there are plenty of maps to play as well with some being more complex and harder than others. The gameplay is also pretty smooth. A twin stick mechanic is in the game where the left side focuses on the steering and the right focuses on the drifting, and it is crucial to manage this so that you don't hit the walls too often. The controls for keyboard are ok, with A and D for the left side, and left and right arrow keys for the right side, though would probably be best to be played with a controller so it is a good thing that there is controller support. Visually i really like it, from the animated style of the characters to the vaporwave aesthetic as to quite do like the latter component for anything. The Ui is also good with there being a bunch of info on the screen as you play but not so much that it clusters your play. Music is fun to listen to with the upbeat synth and vaporwave songs. The game also has both an online and a split screen mode which would definitely be fun to be played with others. An interesting thing about the game as that there aren't vehicle collision so your car can just phase through others. Overall, it's a really like racing game that is worth checking out.

Dont let my time in sway you i played several hours of the initial demo
Pros:
The Drifting first and foremost that the game takes the name from is spot on. it feels really fantastic to play
its a combination of both sticks where you make slight adjustments with the left stick, and the right factors in for angle and intensity of the drift itself. and more or less how much brake is applied. though you do have a brake that makes even finer more immediate adjustments. depending on which car you have chosen
each car feels unique. and its very hard to explain without feeling it which is why id suggest at least trying the prologue out first even just the two in there are drastically different. but they all feel good in their own way and it really is the second main pillar to the game i feel. just getting behind each car and getting its nuances down will take some time to master.
The sense of speed is also fantastic, whipping around corners and edging right next to the wall and still making it without touching is so satisfying.
the story itself is rather short but i think it more than makes up for it with just the sheer number of modes and challenges based around each specific car. i think the story is there to display how the cars and each mode function and the replay and leaderboards are where the focus is. similar to how track mania operates
tracks themselves also feel well thought out. some can be potentially irritating at first but i think once you learn them and your chosen car it really falls into place.
i never thought id say play a racing game with headphones but it has an interesting sound design. mostly in the form of how close you are to a wall the left and right sound channels wind and sound change and will increase giving you a feeling of how close you are to the wall much like an actual car would. its subtle but its a really nice touch and one that was enough to mention though the music can get a tad repetitive this is one where making your own playlist is welcome i think.
Cons:
would still love more customization options outside of just changing the color. being able to decorate and have others see your ghost would be really rad here and a big hope for the future though not a turn off by any means.
initial learning curve maybe steep for some but really once you get it there is nothing else like it in the arcade/ drifting space.
Music again can get repetitive but nothing your own playlist wont fix
Middle ground:
i'm not sure of the studios plans for this game in the future but i hope they keep adding to it and updating it because even as good of a package as it is currently there is a ton of room to add some really rad stuff and expand on the mechanics in place already
in closing i think at $20 its a great deal. its solid, it runs super well. it plays great and there is a lot of replay in here and if you are the type to get into leader-boards about every part of this game has one.
its super fun and when you get it right it feels incredible. think of it similar to how skater xl is to skateboarding this to drifting.

-The Graphics is Exceptional (Cell Shading Everywhere) and also very smooth 10/10.
-Artstyle Exceptional both cars and circuits 10/10.
-The Sound is ok a bit lack in cars and in general 7.5/10.
-The Soundtrack is ok 6/10 it do his job.
-The Controls are Innovative , tight and responsive also a breath of fresh air 10/10.
-Plenty of modes including online PVP (tested).
-A good variety of options.
This game worth the full price so yes it's a very good arcade racing , it's a bit unpopulated in term of NPC but the game doesn't suffer from this side (my opinion) . THX Level91 !
