Über das Spiel
While most people eagerly awaited the coming of democracy and capitalism, some were unable to adapt to the new socio-economic climate. Soon they found themselves on the streets with nowhere to go.
You are one of those people.
Keep an eye on your needs and other variables, which interact in realistic ways - staying warm, dry, and well-fed are not your only concerns. Poor hygiene and dirty clothes make you smellier, low temperature increases the risk of falling ill, and whatever piece of food comes in must also come out at some point.
How far are you willing to go to survive? Steal, burgle, and consort with criminals of all sorts. If necessary, take what you need by force. However, you are not an action hero. Consider your actions carefully, for the consequences are often severe, and benefits rarely outweigh the risks. Most importantly, keep your wits about you. Even if you are not willing to hurt people for personal gain, others are.
Spend the last few days of autumn wisely – gather supplies, equipment, and materials to help you survive the most difficult of seasons. Weather is unpredictable, but there is one certainty - every day is colder than the last. With a lot of preparation and a bit of luck, you might even see the spring again.
Unlike other survival games, Hobo: Tough Life leans heavily on its story content. Experience dozens of storylines inspired by real-life events and people. Solve quests, meet unique NPCs, gain their trust, make allies and enemies, join various factions, and find your place in the streets of Praslav.
Maybe there is no warm apartment waiting for you at the end of the day, but you do not have to keep sleeping on park benches either. Find a suitable place and get to work. Construct walls and roofs to shield you from the elements. Gather discarded furniture and curios to furnish your hideout and make it truly your own.
Is surviving on your own too difficult? Get the gang together. The game supports online co-op multiplayer for up to 4 players. Play alone, together with your friends, or even with total strangers. Team up, collect resources, build a shanty town, survive the winter.
For over a decade, no one has been able to bring the many factions of the homeless together. The throne of the Homeless King has been sitting empty for far too long. Who will earn enough respect and prove themselves worthy of uniting the homeless? Will you rise to the occasion?

Schade.

It is just the right amount of hand holding (or absence of). I disagree that this game is hard though. You just have to spend some time to understand how things work (and the systems are pretty detailed and rewarding), and then put some effort in son/sister, and soon the dumpsters will be your oysters, or umm... the world is your dumpster ... no, forget oysters.
But! you have many ways you can play depending on your style:
-you a loner?
-you a bully?
-you a hustler?
-you a dealer?
-you Walter White?
-you a good samaritan?
-you a thief?
-you a vigilante?
-you a silver tongue?
-you a tinkerer?
-you a snitch?
-you a hard worker?
You can be any of those.
That's all folks! Hey you, say, my friend... are you eating all that sandwich?

+ original idea
+ good execution and challenging gameplay (especially in the beginning) - I almost expected this game to be problematic, making homelessness look like a fun, easy thing. It certainly doesn't.
+ intuitive, satisfying minigames and base-building mode
+ sad, gray atmosphere of central European country
+ get to learn random words in Czech
+ player can own a dog (an important feature of every game)
- mediocre graphics (especially in areas like sewers)
- gets repetitive and too easy after some time
- quests are not evenly distributed throughout the game - if you've done every quest line but one or two, you can easily die of boredom waiting for those remaining ones to unfold.

Recommend to play it with friends because you can share resources with others. (Also TOUGH, but atleast have some laughs together). Some of the items request from NPC are by luck that you need to dive into dump or lockpicking/pickpockets. This is the life of homeless, wandering on streets and starving.

Fun, hard, funny, dark at times. Spent 10 hours learning how to live, 10 hours learning how to live well, and 10 hours learning that it's never going to be quite so easy. Storyline is engaging but it takes from your health to immerse yourself in conversation, which is rad, your stats are always draining. I don't often write reviews but this one deserves it. If you like RPG's and don't need your hand held, absolutely get this game. I foresee at least another 30 hours in this.
If you like this game you might also like pathologic

In my view as a former homeless person (for 3 years travelling all over the USA as a legit hobo), this game is 100% accurate as a simulator and makes you really feel like you're a hobo... IT'S AWESOME!!!

Personally i love this game. Kinda frustrating at first when you keep dying and restarting the whole game but once you get the hang of it, the game becomes so very beautiful and wonderful to play!
It's been awhile since such game is release. If you love surviving, urban life, being a hobo begging / having conversations with NPC, do illegal things etc, you will love this game.

To accomplish hard tasks they've made a mini-game that plays off reaction time. It's a very simple concept, but it works. I have to admit I'm not even tired of it, it's difficult and when you manage hard tasks you get instantly rewarded. This is excellent indie game design.
The game doesn't feel like a grind after 30 hours, although it kinda should. I can only attribute this to the exceptional production quality. The gameplay revolves around building up your base to prepare for the winter as well as building up your character skills in begging, building, drinking, lock picking, etc. They have taken a number of well proven game concepts and mixed them with their own unique flavour. I salute developers like this.
When you start out the game will be very challenging and you will die a lot. With experience you'll learn how to survive on the streets. I will honestly judge homeless people less after playing this game. Very much recommended.

You start with shitty clothing, no food, and no shelter under an overpass. There are quests do to while you try and not die. You have to sleep as much as you possibly can. Stay warm, keep your morale up, eat plenty of food, keep your stink down from rooting in the trash. You can find everything you would desire in a trash can.
Eventually, when you figure out how to survive past day 2, you can start building your home up with the found items around the map. You can even die with friends!
8/10 Highly recommend.

Have a crack at doing it blind, then when you inevitably die....
Watch the 'how to make money on first day' video by 'TheUsualMe' on youtube
And restart with a different save.
This reminds me of the old Thief games. Usually I can't get into ugly games, but the atmosphere and continual tension makes it work.

Oh boy was I wrong.
It looks like a small-time, dumb half-assed 3D game that can be vaguely entertaining in a so-bad-it's-kinda-funny-for-a-few-hours way (there are lots of those these days). But it's anything but dumb and half-assed.
The ambiance is mature and deep, the difficulty is suprisingly well curved, the amount of content is ASTRONOMICAL...
A bit cluncky now and then, but still a truly great game !

At first, the game takes some getting used to. It's harsh on you, but once you start unlocking those skills and perks you'll be living in hobo mansions surviving winter and eating cat stew in no time. Well almost no time. The truth is the game does take some time to get you up to the top, and I think that's part of why I like it so much. It really feels like you had to earn it. It's a difficult balance for games that this one gets down really well.
I do have to mention that this game does a good job of dancing on the fiber thin wire of being respectful towards those in need and the often dark humor of life. I've never been homeless, but I did work with some folks that were. And their stories are filled with the grimmest and darkest side of humanity you can imagine. But they also had incredible stories of triumph. And despite the nightmare, they had things they could laugh about. And while this is just a silly game, with it's fair share of poop jokes and sarcasm, it does touch on some of these realities and does so well.
I hate long reviews, so long/short of it is, it's def worth the asking price if you love survival sandbox games. I have asked just about every friend I got on here to buy it so I can play some multiplayer. But unless it somehow ruins the fun of the single player experience I probably won't update the review. Cheers!

Ok now the good: Once you make it through a few days as a Hobo, you begin to understand what's critical and what could/should be put on hold until you're ready. It's very much a time management game mixed in with problem solving. Once you know the lay of the land you can set up your strategy for the day. Begging, dumpster diving, crafting, lockpicking, stealing, trading, questing, doing favors and setting up your bases will keep you busy every day. I've played 251 hours at this point so it has certainly been worth the money.

The only downside I find with it: I open the in-game menu whilst playing the game, the game is still running. Your character's hunger, time of day is still going so there's no real easy way to pause the game & go to the loo or eat lunch as your character is stood there starving or getting cold, unless you quit the game, which isn't a bad idea, though it could help when searching for controls or looking on the internet for guidance on the game.
Other than that, great game.

It's a scavenger hunt. You can find plenty of junk, but you're looking for a few rare things all of the time. You are cold all of the time. If you aren't lucky early, just start again, because you will die. You will get beat up all the time by thugs and you can rarely escape them. (talking to an an NPC for a while is a good way). You can't store your money anywhere so you will get robbed of it. Building a base. well i don't know how long it takes because after 33 ours i still didn't make it to level 1. (though i did have a bench and could sleep by my burn barrel).
I thought after i got my dumpster diving up it would come easier. It didn't. I suck at the crazy hard mini game that involves a lot of eye to hand coordination. After 33 hours, it wasn't easier and I don't know how to make it easier.
It seems you have to be a thief to succeed. I know it's just a game, but that's not for me. Oh yeh and i suck at picking locks too. It doesn't have the same feel as other games with that mechanic.
I will say it only crashed twice in 33 hours. I will also add there is no pause game in single player. You have to exit to menu. It does that fast though and you can jump back in quickly. Hitting escape does NOT pause the game.

It has the perfect level of depth so as to not feel like a chore, but still provide a litany of rewarding & engaging challenges to work towards. Besides being funny, interesting, and just downright enjoyable to play, it provides a pretty unique perspective on what people go through every single day just to eat & stay warm. but, ya know. as a game...
A long play game with a 30-day two-season cycle that requires you to tap into most all of the elements of the game in order to survive, network, and eventually become the Hobo King! If you don't have enough support when elections come around the first time, you will get another season to improve your standings in the area, while applying any newly earned bonuses to your character. And then you start at the beginning of the warm season again, with a newfound respect for the imminent cold that waits ahead.
Meantime, you'll be Gary Busey-ing around with glee in that spring sunshine after having frozen to death on Sister Agnes' charity porch once or twice in the winter just trying to poop on the cheap.
But it's just an extremely well-balanced game in all honesty. Intricate in both its plot and character interactions in ways I never expected, really. I love the layout of the city, though I will say the markers on the map could definitely be improved. The size & feel of the city, however, is just right and it's full of interactions that are worthwhile in all sorts of different ways.
Been playing co-op w a friend-- He's more of a quest-oriented tool while I run around like a total boss doing aimless crap that gets us nowhere. And we both have helped each other out a ton without getting in each other's way, so definitely a good game to play with a friend. Runs smooth w several slots for different saves which are also up-to-minute, haven't had any performance issues playing it.
I'm constantly finding new surprises that further my appreciation for the thought put into it by the developers, and I'm looking forward to the final end product. Game pad support definitely can use some love, for instance. But I see they know that too and it's a part of their road map.
just buy it.

*Dumpster - instead of putting ???? replace it w/ broken bottles or other stuff to make it more realistic (you can put ???? inside the dumpster if you will allow the player to do #2 on them)
*Lighting - i like the idea of making it so dark so the players will be eager to create candle or something to light the path but its also a necessity to let us adjust the brightness coz its painful to the eye
*Map - please add a COMPASS. it would make our life easier and also it would be great if you let us have a separate button for Missions
*Mission Marker - it needs a little tweek
*Character Customization - would be a good add-on
*Time - add a big clock on the church so we would still have an idea haw much time left before sundown
*Jobs - more = more fun
*Mini Game Bar - im not sure about this but mine is a little bit laggy and it makes it frustrating to play that mini game
i will edit this when i see or feel something should be included i only played it for only 6hrs so i still haven't seen the whole game. A good game and i hope when this game if fully released it would be so much diff. from now !???????? Nice work Devs keep it up. ☺️

There are downsides. Going into a building, even the fancy ones, doesn't seem to warm you at all, only alcohol and fire will do that. For some reason I can't just cop a squat in a corner of a field and relieve myself. There is a minigame for crafting (wtf), and a few other things that did have me wondering if some things were put in just to add something to do rather than it being there for fun or because it made sense. Seriously, devs, who can't poop?
There's a lot of humor, much of it dark, and a pretty well built world. I've seen complaints about the map being useless, and it's honestly not the best, but the world is built well enough that it shouldn't take too long to be able to identify where you are by sight, which I appreciate in a game.
Overall, it's what I'd expect from a survival game with rpg elements about a homeless guy. Room for improvement? Sure. But worth the sale price I paid.

There are annoying things:
Thugs are overpowered. I'm not familiar with the combat system in this game, so I keep a keen out for those bastards. They are slightly obvious from all the other NPC's, but they do move around, so watch out.
There are some invisible walls, but not many.
Shrapnel in the game is a mechanic for trash diving. Your dump diving skill determines how many shrapnel you can safely run into while diving. lvl1 means you can find one, when you run over it, you will be prevented from moving onto that square once, after that your clothes get damaged and stink gets applied.
It's in your best interest to be good to your fellow hobos, otherwise it will be difficult to complete quests with them. Be generous to them and it will benefit you medium and long term.
Learn as much about the game as you can before you play, There isn't a tutorial yet.
On to the fun stuff: Building your base is fun. You come across your first one from that pit. It's near Maisner.
There are a lot of different things to do. You can be a buglar and steal stuff
You can be a scavenger and find stuff
You can be a charming begger and get rich (well sorta)
You can do temporary jobs, even be a pizza delivery dude!
You can lock pick and steal stuff for your fellow hobos
Apparently you can be a badass fighter (I haven't looked into this much)
There is co-op and it's good!
It's early access, and I'm impressed with how it plays. My friend that has hundreds of hours into it started playing it with me again and he is blown away with how much they have improved the gam.
Be a virtual hobo, it's not that tough of a life ;)

My positive takeaways were that the game has a solid skill / leveling system. It's a, if you do this action, you improve in said action system. You can also learn perks later on to add some more options. A lot of the systems in the game feel decently fleshed out, but I guess you'd hope so after 4.5 years of dev time.
My negatives were a lot higher. My biggest gripe in the game, is that there is no thing as line of sight. It's all radius based. So you can start stealing or lock picking something, and a guy on the complete opposite side of the building will come running and yell at you, just because you are close enough to him, not because he can actually see you. Some things feel just put in place to make stuff harder. Who charges people $20 to use their toilet? I was freezing and went to jail, and thought well at least it will be warm. Nah, it's same temp in the jail cell as it is outside. So still freezing. Most of the mini games become extremely repetitive as you'll do them hundreds of times. Thugs rob you 2 feet in front of a police officer, cops don't care. There is no such thing as AI in this game. There is just so many things like this that scream janky or cheap.
$10, I might recommend it. $20? I'd at least like to see some more effort in certain things.

Pros:
+ At the beggining, the game seems to be a little boring etc, but when you're going to learn some perks, and your skills will go up, game starts to bring more fun.
+ Graphics isn't that bad.
+ We can have a dog as a companion !
+ We might get a bit knowledge about homeless ppl, and what do they have to do, to survive through winter.
+ Game isn't that hard
+ We can make our own shelter w/ furnitures/sleeping spots/showers etc.
+ Game is cheap
Cons:
- We can't make moonshine ( shame )
- Game seems to be lagging sometimes at the begging minigame ( even with stable and decent fps amount )
- Devs should have add seasons.... Never ending winter isn't cool :P
- I'm not going to lie.... when I'll reach highest perks level, will get cool stuff, I'm not going to play this game until devs will give us any huge update.
Summary: Hobo is really cool, and decent game. Had a lot of fun playing it, and figuring out how it works. Sadly at this point you're going to get bored when you'll reach max perks level/max shelter lvl/best clothes and best bags. It's not really a problem, because you will need to spend at least 30-40 hours to achive that. I'm going to recommend this game, because I really, really enjoyed it.

The game is till rough around the edges but it is a very good survival game with a unique setting, harsh mechanics and a surprising amount of things to do.
Best of all, it is still being worked on and is steadily improving with every update. Kudos to the creators for sticking with the project.

I have played for 17 hours so far and I love it. Multiplayer isn't too fun but it's not horrible either, I'm usually a single player gamer anyways.
I can't wait to see what this game is capable of!

I have only played as single-player, so my review is based on that.
This is an excellent role playing game where your character wakes up in Prague (Zizkov area) with no memory of who you are. You then work to survive as a homeless person which gets more challenging as winter comes. Like other survival games you have skills development, crafting, shelter building, a number of values you need to maintain (warmth, illness, mood, tiredness, etc.).
Lots of stuff to do, lots of NPCs to interact with. Some activities require a mini-game where you have to stop an arrow on a green bar (that gets bigger as your skills level up). Most of the game is run in first person where you walk through the city doing things like checking trash cans for useful things, checking vending machines for loose change, working day labor jobs, etc. You can shop at stores, you can try to sell stuff to people walking by. You can even beg for handouts. I'm sure there's a lot that I've neglected to put in here.
As to stability I don't remember ever running into crashing issues and the game seems to run smoothly throughout. If you enjoy first person survival role-playing games in a somewhat realistic setting, I recommend this one to you.
