Hitman
Rezension vom 20.09.2021
Bearbeitet: /

Contrats and Blood Money wasnt that successful, than it was going back with Absolution first full supported Steam Feature Game with 3,6 Millions.
This has a Prologue with a Ship Fake Mission and a Final infiltration Mission + 6 Episodes (Paris, Sapienza, Marrakesh, Bangkok, Colorado & Hokaido. Every Level is big, you have many choices to take (clothes, ways with pipes, distraction, sneaking, deadly poison, sickness, many targets, many items many very well hidden in each corner).
Than you have special mission Patient Zero
You have extra mission 3 or 5 with really challenging missions like every 7 seconds get your pistol back. Many mission to get the highscore done.
& you can make your own challenges or play others missions.
So many ways & stuff to play if you like to get HIGHSCORE hunts and want take every CHALLENGE (kill Bill) or want see every special kill.
I really enjoyed the big open worlds with so many oppurtunities, even if in same little side mission (Icon) a few more options would be nice.
Cant await to play Hitman 2 next year and Hitman 3 then in future. I love this series so much <3
+++ great locations & ways to kill, press F1 % accept every challenge
- Story could be a little more detailed (most of it you get when you sneak around and hear people speaking), but main story you are mostly in the dark & its very short told
I LOVE IT <3 not perfect, but a one of 5 pieces i played and it make so many fun to find always new ways, clothes, weapons or beat a challenge & get extra stuff like Santa Claus Costume or Masamune Kitana/ Samurai Sword. Enjoy the Achievement Easter Eggs :)

- No Jesper Kyd;
- Different atmosphere;
- Always online (for a single player game lmao);
- Lost timed-exclusive content;
- Escalations are meh;
- Elusive Targets are a good ideia that are poorly implemented;
- No dual ballers;
- You don't have a case anymore;
- No optional first person;
- Locked content for the ps4 (The Sarajevo Six - but you can mod in for your game);
- And no Jesper Kyd (really, we miss you).
Besides that, it's a wonderful game and a breath of fresh air for the Hitman series.

All the world’s a stage…
It is a strange experience that I’ve had with the Hitman games. Maybe not as strange as much as it speaks to the strengths of the series.
Before playing this game, the only ones I’ve experienced were Absolution, back when it launched in 2012, and Codename 47, when I tried to get into the series back in 2018, but gave up due to how broken it was. With that, and I guess word of mouth, I can conclude that Hitman is the most Hitman game I’ve played… but I kind of hate it. Flair is what marks the difference between artistry and mere competence, and Hitman sure is a competently made title.
There are just so many things I dislike that this game stands for: the fact that it’s pointlessly a soft reboot, the awful naming convention it plays into, that it feels so on-rails despite touting player choice as its premier quality, that it is (or was) an obnoxious live service, its awfully-sleek main menu that takes you out of the game any chance it gets, its “realistic” yet bland graphics, its “mature” story, the way IO Interactive continues to advertise and sell it… I hate it, I hate it, I hate it.
As such, this review will almost entirely focus on the reasons why you shouldn’t play Hitman as a standalone title. Instead, get Hitman 2, pick up the GOTY Legacy Pack which goes on sale for as low as 3,99€ (cheaper than buying it standalone) and allows you to play the entirety of this game within Hitman 2, including the QoL and gameplay changes that came with it.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2732233751
I hate this stupid naming convention where games just re-use titles of previous entries within the same series, despite not being reboots or remakes. Doom, God of War, Hitman… I get it, it’s a new beginning for the franchise. While it is true that the very first Hitman game wasn’t simply called Hitman, I’m left wondering why this one wasn't just named Hitman: World of Assassination, as this is how IOI refers to the trilogy it’s a part of. Definitely would have saved them the awkwardness of naming the sequel Hitman 2 when Hitman 2: Silent Assassin already exists.
As such, this game gets rid of some of the elements that I’ve really liked in past Hitman games, mainly how cheesy they were at times. The series always had this grindhouse, B-movie feel to it – even as early as Codename 47. Hitman has none of that, going instead for a more serious, everyday spy-thriller story, dealing with betrayal and NWOs. I can’t quite tell what it deals with aside from that, as this is only the first chapter of a trilogy. However, this isn’t one story as a part of that trilogy, but rather the first third of a single story. By the end of the 6th, and final, mission, you won’t be feeling particularly satisfied. It doesn’t resolve anything, but rather concludes the set-up for a story that’s supposed to resolve throughout the following two games. There’s no clear villain, no characters, just names in a script that fulfill a purpose.
I know Absolution was pretty much universally disliked by the fanbase and that its story was ridiculous, even by Hitman standards. But it was memorable! It had flair! And nearly all of the plot points left unresolved in that game are completely dropped. The most mention the old games get is a montage of 47’s past kills in a cutscene after the tutorial, just to confirm that they still happened. That’s all they’re there for. Later on, in a weirdly meta moment, a character all but confirms that they’re not important anymore. I realize Hitman isn’t this story-heavy series where continuity is of the utmost importance, but there’s no chance in hell that I can imagine Hitman as taking place within the same universe as the previous titles.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2732251523
Let’s talk about immersion, and how Hitman does nothing to immerse its player. Every menu you open in the game has this sterile look to it. Even in the middle of the game, for something as simple as opening your inventory, your eyes are blasted with blinding-white light. I get what they’re trying to do. They’re trying to nail this fantasy of an agent preparing for his assignments, having everything cleanly organized and ready to be reviewed before he embarks on his next mission - but it’s so boring. It feels like the game comes to a screeching halt every time you open a menu.
It actually gets worse. I’d consider Hitman to be an impressive-looking game, but the level of animation for the numerous crowds in the game is so lackluster that it creates this uncanny valley effect, where you’re constantly taken out of the experience. It doesn’t help that voice actors across all locations, no matter where in the world your current mission is taking place, speak exactly the same. In previous Hitman games, NPCs would either have an accent or speak in a location-appropriate language. I feel like I’m walking around a theatre stage, with the same actors just changing their costumes and the scenery during loading screens. I’m not being sold on the experience at all. There’s no atmosphere to speak of either, no tension. This is the least immersive Hitman game out of all of them. Undoubtedly so, because I know Hitman 2 doesn’t have the same problem.
The difficulty is partly to blame. Where in previous Hitman games you were pretty much on your own, aside from the briefing you’d get before a mission, here every time you discover something a message pops up to let you know, and you can then opt to follow a marker that helps you follow through on the information you’ve acquired. These can be turned off or customized with a slew of other settings, but there are no preset difficulty options that offer a curated experience. You’d have to play the game for a bit to know which you’d like to turn off or keep on. You also have unlimited saves this time around when in previous Hitman games all difficulties would have some sort of limitation. Still, there’s no quicksave button, so you’ll have to open that terrible-looking menu every time you wish to save. Similarly, 47 now regenerates health passively and can take like six mags from an SMG before going down, when in previous titles health was a finite resource.
There is one exception: Professional difficulty. Here, combat is punishing again and all those hints and markers are off by default. Two things hold it back, however: that it has to be unlocked for each level separately and that its other restrictions, like the save limit now being one, pretty much require you to possess full knowledge of the levels already, which constitutes playing through them on the boring difficulty several times. There’s no middle ground – which is another thing solved in Hitman 2.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2733010673
Verdict
It’s a good thing that IO Interactive continues to improve on its Hitman formula, but the way this evolution was handled, with how integral this game is to the trilogy as a whole, is disappointing. Hitman is just not worth the time nor money as a standalone title. Get either of the sequels with the appropriate legacy pack if you wish to play it, which you should if you’re at all interested in the trilogy.
On its own, Hitman is a remarkable achievement in stealth-sandbox game design, that you shouldn’t care for.

Raised Russian price, no discount for HITMAN 1 and HITMAN 2 owners, no 1-year-old-game discount - no nothing! So this is how you treat your old fans? I wanted to buy HITMAN 3 on Steam, I've waited for a year to buy HITMAN 3 on Steam, and what do I get now? You've RAISED the Russian price for the game! Raised comparing to EGS price, that was there just yesterday. And considering EGS sale price and EGS coupon the game cost 10 (ten!) times cheaper! Just couple of weeks ago. This is ridiculous! You've raised the base price 2 times! For no reason! And look at the DLC's! For some lazy escalations and some skins in Seven Deadly Sins Collection you ask the same amount of money as you ask for the whole HITMAN 2 Gold Edition! This is not a joke! This is craziness! The complete edition of a big game costs the same amount of money as a couple of skins!
HITMAN 3 is a conclusion, a final chapter of a HITMAN Trilogy. Same gameplay, same engine, same launcher, same everything. You've set a reasonable prices for both HITMAN 1 and HITMAN 2 in Russia, and now you've suddenly extremely raised the price for HITMAN 3, thinking, if we liked the first two, we're going to buy the third one anyway? This is the kind of treatment and disrespect the old fans get? OK. Then don't be disappointed by low sales and lost profits.

- Perfect sandbox design philosophy, infinitely replayable.
Cons
- Bad aliasing, even at 4K some jaggies are too distracting.
- Sub-par Voice Acting for non-target NPCs.
- Music is okay, but doesn't come close to Jesper Kyd's work on Silent Assassin/Contracts/Blood Money
- Unlike Blood Money, there is a bit of a variation in the consistency of map quality. Sapienza, Bangkok and Hokkaido are plain better maps than Marrakesh, Paris and Colorado. Won't call them bad but it is noticeably worse than the three best maps.
- Online only condition for a single player game is bollocks.
- Elusive targets should be one attempt not limited time, again since it is a single player game.
One of my favourite games in the entire world. The game-play is simply brilliant, the only cons I have listed are just minor shortcomings that don't diminish your fun. There is so much you can do in each level it's refreshing to see what can be done with a video game. Hitman sets the bar for interactivity and improvisation for all games. One of a kind series that I believe every game/level designer needs to play multiple times as mandatory education (especially the World of Assassination games, older titles not so much for educational purposes since their best lessons are already incorporated in the new games).

If you're a fan don't miss it it's amazing.
I only bought this game for escalations because in hitman 2 legacy pack and hitman 3 access passes Only half of them are available.
If you're only interested in main game it's 2021 go buy hitman 3 in epic games and all access passes to play whole trilogy in one game. It saves a lot of space for your pc and you have all 3 games in 1 game.
If you aren't into epic games store buy hitman 2 and legacy pack dlc for it so you can play hitman 1 and 2. Legacy pack is cheaper too.
Legacy pack is hitman 1 remaster with all dlcs and half of the escalations.

apparently you where only able to play them the first few weeks of this games release. So now you cant 100% the game in this single player game.
The game itself is fine. I will play the campeign but i am annoyed that i cant unlock this content. like its a single player game, let me play these missions, and unlock this content. I also read online that they could shut there servers down meaning you wouldnt be able to come back and play this in a year or two, If i knew this beforehand i would have reconsidered my purchase.

One thing I didn't realise until today when my internet went off for 20 minutes is this game has always online DRM so there I am wanting to do my challenges on Paris and the game is asking me to go online or the challenges won't show up.
I really hate this kind of aggressive DRM because while it spoils the game for Pirates the people hurt the most are people who bought the game legit.
The sad thing is I really love this game I just don't like the fact the game essentially has a clock on it with an unspecified amount of time to play it until one day the sever owners decide to shut it down and nobody can then enjoy the game to it's fullest anymore.

Pros:
+ Really good maps (some are downright excellent)
+ Lots of variety (weapons, disguises, “accidents”, etc.)
+ Sharp controls
+ Looks amazing
+ Customizable missions
+ Highly replayable (different kills, challenges, suit-only runs, etc.)
+ Fun to 100%
Cons:
- Character accents
- AI is not great
“Long” version:
Hitman is developed and published by IO Interactive. It is a third-person stealth game where you play as Agent 47 and must eliminate key targets across varied locations.
Unlike the previous game in the series (Hitman: Absolution), Hitman prioritizes gameplay and replayability over storytelling. There are still intriguing cutscenes which give you a general idea of where the story is heading but this tale is not as “personal” as the one in the previous entry. Then again, I feel like this is what most fans wanted and expected from this franchise so I believe it was the right call.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2383582549
Gameplay is very solid. You get to move around huge maps, filled with opportunities to murder your targets.
Your strategy will most likely revolve around changing outfits to gain clearance to new areas, tinker with a few items and modify them and make sure your victim falls into a trap. There are many, many ways your targets can die – everything from explosions, poisoning, funny mishaps, deceit, etc.
There are pre-determined events that will occur and that you can focus on. These are great and tend to be more lavish and cinematic (some are hilarious, even); you are given tips about what to do, but it never felt like handholding. You are just told what you have to interact with, but not how to get there or by what means. There is also a great deal of fun figuring out different ways to sneak into an area and ignoring the tips the game gives you. You are free to play as you see fit.
Ideally, you will stick to stealth, as the game is not all that fun if you go in guns blazing. The stealth AI is not amazing, but there are so many NPCs that you have to be careful anyways. The AI is rather bad during combat, you can easy barricade yourself inside a small room and wait for all the guards to come in and off them one by one.
There are many non-target enemies in your way and the game encourages you to spare them, subtracting points to your final score if you decide to kill them. You are able to perform non-lethal takedowns, that usually take a longer time to complete. Hiding bodies is also a good strategy to avoid getting into trouble.
You get to pick your gear before each mission and there is a considerable amount of variety to it. Add that to the option of picking which area you start off in and the different combinations/modifiers and you are in for a lot of replayability.
All-in-all, the gameplay is functional and really satisfying if you pay attention to your surroundings and find opportunities to complete your objectives.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2385253354
The maps are good. While there are definitely weaker ones (such as Colorado), some are just amazingly crafted. Sapienza was my favorite map by far. It had exquisite level design, seamless interconnectivity between areas and detailed environments. Marrakesh, Paris and Hokkaido were also standouts.
Graphically, I reckon Hitman looks absolutely stunning. The maps are colorful and detailed, character models are good and the overall presentation is top notch.
Ambient noises and sound effects are also great – they feel impactful and immersive. Voice acting for the main cast is stellar but it also leads me to a slight, weird problem. NPCs all sound british/american, no matter where the mission takes place. You get to Marrakesh, american accents, you go to Bangkok, everyone is also american or british. Does not really make sense. I read they solved this in the sequel, though and it is basically a nitpick that got addressed later on.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2377426362
It has been a while since I have had this much fun 100%ing a game.
If you get this on a sale you will be getting a whole lot of content and it is well worth the price. It is highly replayable and its quality is evident.
You are also able to create your own contracts and pick different targets and assassination methods. After you are done, you can send them to your friends and compete for the highest score!
A lot of the opportunities are hilarious and they are rather easy to accomplish. What other game allows you to murder your target while pretending to be a yoga instructor/psychiatrist or disguise yourself as a priest and impaling a scummy politician on the church spire?
Gives this a try! The first episode is free and it is a lot of fun!
Final score: 9 out of 10.

Here's the thing. You can play HITMAN 1 maps within HITMAN 2, and you can play all of the trilogy's maps within HITMAN 3. The old levels get imported to the sequels. However, while H2 and H3 are identical in gameplay, H1 mechanics kinda suck. It feels like an early, unpolished beta of what eventually became a great Hitman game in both its sequels. You really should just play H1 maps within either H2 or H3 instead.
Most importantly, your HITMAN 1 progress will not transfer to the sequels. Every item you unlock and every challenge you complete in HITMAN 1 will only stay in HITMAN 1. You would have to do it again in the sequels. Only HITMAN 2 progress can be transferred into HITMAN 3.
TL;DR No reason to play HITMAN 1, its gameplay is inferior and your challenges/unlocks will not transfer. Play HITMAN 1 maps in either of its two sequels instead.

the challenges and achievements, you'll probably not get your money's worth in the amount of time you'll have spent playing the game. That, however, does not detract from the quality of the game. The controls are intuitive and enjoyable, the world is amazingly immersive, the opportunity system is a bit like a railroad, unfortunately, but i feel like it is more than a step up from aimlessly stumbling about until finally settling for pulling out your hand pistol and capping your target in the dome. The expansion is a step down from the base game. They removed a few mechanics which, granted, leaves you with a lot more freedom on solving your targets, but at the same time makes the game a lot easier. The expansion shifted my purpose of killing the targets through usage of the game's mechanics to killing them by exploiting poor AI pathing and slow AI reaction timing.
Still, the game is an absolutely beautiful piece. It is rare to see a game that's been made relatively recently have no mention-worthy bugs in it.

????Positive Aspects:
- Map design & Interactions with it.
- Magnificent visuals.
- Probably the best sandbox game in its genre.
- The best stealth mechanics in current-gen stealth games.
????Negative Aspects:
- Always online DRM.
- Terribly timed events that aren’t even playable once the event is over.
▶️Introduction
HITMAN (2016) is the hitman reboot that tries to capture the same magic as Blood Money did back in 2006 and simply drift away from the story over gameplay style of Hitman Absolution. This game had a very weird type of release identical to Telltale games, you basically get a new episode every 2 months. The game was developed and published by IO Interactive A/S.
Release Date: 11th March 2016.
Last known update: 19th October 2018.
????Small-talk:
Is this game truly close to the Masterpiece that Blood Money was?
Smalltalk
Many people didn’t appreciate Hitman Absolution which is understandable, the essence of the game was left as an afterthought while focusing on the story. The hitman series was always a gameplay first game and with the reboot, they actually achieve this. Not only they succeed to create a game with the traditional stealth essence but in my opinion HITMAN (2016) is currently the best game in the series.
????Gameplay:
The game truly has some extreme depth as far as options to succeed in a mission go.
I was always blown away by Blood Money playing it back in the day on an old FX Nvidia GPU lol. Nonetheless, this game actually feels even better for its timeline.
Stealth mechanics:
The stealth in this game isn’t the traditional idea of “do not let them spot you”, you’re basically just walking around. The only catch is that the security or enemies can actually spot you, the best solution is to actually take someone out and simply use their clothing to suppress your identity. Now you may ask “what do you mean by suppressing”? Well, unlike Hitman Absolution where you can simply press a button to make yourself undetectable by enemies, you now have to hide within groups of people in order to blend it and become undetectable. Basically, your goal is to blend in.
Eliminating should be done in a quiet matter as well: The game is pretty unforgiving if you’re getting detected you can either fight against the horde of highly trained special agents and security or you can use the great stealth mechanics of this game and live to fight another day. Yeah if you so happen to be a potato you can simply hide in lockers or trash-bins, enemies will not automatically know your location, they will first just enter the room and do a typical search for the next couple of minutes. Another good stealth mechanic is that you can actually hide bodies which gives you total control of eliminations. The game is basically amazing as far as stealth goes.
Map design & Interactions:
Hitman has arguable some of the best-designed maps in the Hitman series. The maps are big and have quite a lot of stuff to offer, you can easily hear conversations that will actually throw hints for your actual goal, perhaps a hidden alley in order to get to your target undetected? or maybe the location of his next interview? The maps and people in the game can give you so much its borderline impressive. Another option to finish your target is to just stalk them and observe their routine, targets actually have some sort of movement pattern. There is a chance that you observed your target going to have a drink, in that situation you proceed to grab some poison from the kitchen and pour it into the drink he previously drank from. In other situations, you can simply “break” their pattern. You can actually pour Rat poison in his drink, the result isn’t deadly, the target will get sick and run to the next toilet and in that toilet, Agent-47 will simply finish the job. Alarms are a good distraction as well.
Other aspects:
????Story:
Be aware, spoilers ahead!
As mentioned this game is more of a gameplay > storyline game, you get a simple cutscene after each episode.
Basically, you start off in the prologue which happens many years before your career began. After all of the jobs and discussions with the ICA, you get Diana as your colleague. You obviously start off doing your usual job eliminating high-value targets like militia, politicians, or scientists. After some time a cutscene with a mysterious bearded man with grey hair that seems to operate in an identical manner collection information as far as the ICA goes.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1373845685
The story continues in HITMAN 2. This is basically my only complaint as the cutscenes are very few and very mysterious as far as pieces of information go.
????Graphics / Audio:
In my opinion HITMAN 2016 is probably the best-looking hitman game in the series, yes even better than HITMAN 2, the lighting just looks a lot better and less muddy.
- Graphics:Even 4 or 5 years later, Hitman 2016 looks amazing. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1375136388 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1374696397
- Audio / Soundtrack: Voice acting as well as surround sounds are just amazing and accurate, you can easily comprehend various discussions between random NPCs which is extremely important for a game like this one. There isn’t much of a soundtrack but the musical tracks the game offers are very well made.
⚙️Performance:
In Game:
Benchmark:
Benchmarks were captured using MSI Afterburner and the built-in HITMAN Benchmark:
Average framerate : 122.2 FPS
Minimum framerate : 79.1 FPS
Maximum framerate : 183.7 FPS
1% low framerate : 75.0 FPS
0.1% low framerate : 56.5 FPS
Average framerate : 42.2 FPS
Minimum framerate : 5.1 FPS
Maximum framerate : 73.7 FPS
1% low framerate : 15.0 FPS
0.1% low framerate : 3.5 FPS

⚖️Conclusion:
HITMAN 2016 is still one of the very best stealth games someone can get for this generation of games. The depth in stealth mechanics and polish is out of this world, the map design deserves a big shutout as well. Lastly, the visuals are still impressive combined with the optimization. If you can look past the constant Online stuff you can be sure to have a great time with this great game.

I cannot in good faith recommend this game.
The tl;dr is Hitman (2016) is a really great game on the whole, having bought it 3 years after the Linux release, however IO Interactive prove that they care more about money than their customers, to the detriment of their products, and I'd recommend you don't support the practice.
The Good is that Hitman is a break from blood money, sure, but a substantial improvement over Absolution, I'd probably say I enjoyed this even more than blood money.
Generally, the game-play is superb and the level design is great. The graphics are delicious and the PC version of the game is a masterpiece of software design, with great graphics options and support for Dualshock and Xbox controllers, or mouse and keyboard if you prefer with on-the-fly switching. (I actually swap to mouse if I have to shoot)
The feral (linux) version of Hitman (which I played) is fantastic, the launcher is optional but very helpful, gamemode is built in and of only two crashes I've seen in nearly 20 hours, the game produces very helpful error messages.
The music is great but a bit forgettable, the voice acting is usually good but there are a few issues I'll get to later.
The animations are top notch and attention to detail in this game across the board is super.
Now the bad... i'll split into two here, game-play and philosophical.
Game-play wise the problem is this game only has 6 locations to play (and this game is short), with a heavy reliance on making the player play through each mission many many times to get each challenge, feat or achievement which in itself only serves to unlock more options to play that same location or flex on the scoreboards (which afaik are filled with cheaters anyway). By comparison blood money had 13 levels.
These 6 levels can be subject to player made contracts, in a move borrowed from valve, why make content when your customers will do it for you?
Escalation contracts are another game type (still on these same 6 locations), these involve starting simply, such as assassinating a gardener or guard with a short patrol pattern and the mission gets harder each time you try it. This sounds fun at first but you try having to kill 5 gardeners within 30 seconds of each other without being seen having done the mission 4 times already... it gets tedious. Whats the reward? Bragging rights mostly.
The game is quite hand-holdy and you can only unlock higher difficulty after you already clear a mission, on a level-by-level basis, by which time you've already gained way too much intel on the level.
The game has an opportunity and intel system in which Diana butts in constantly to tell you how nice it might be to micro-manage you to a win. Most of these you can track from the get-go and handy-dandy waypoints play the game for you. Of course you can ignore these and the most efficient way to play the game thereafter usually tends to be much less interesting if you intend to finish without bodies found since most opportunities involve accidents. A found body is instantly one less star and 20k less score. (You are never actually required to kill anyone by accident or in a certain disguise in story)
The voice acting. The actor for 47 (David Bateson) does a phenomenal job. The voice acting and character design for Diana in this game drives me insane however. As an English guy nothing insults me more than a poor English accent and Diana has it in spades. Along with the animation and visual design of Diana in game, (which is shit) the actress also manages to make Diana seem out of her depth and scared like a posh little girl clutching her purse at the very thought of a brutish man getting too near, where she should instead be cunning and manipulative, unafraid.
If you want an accent from a particular location, hire a voice actor local to that location!
The NPCs in this game, regardless of location have either a US or English accent. This is pretty jarring when you are in Morocco or France or Italy and the guards sounds like he was recently pulled from a pub in Camden.
They all very helpfully speak English, too!
The story is very weak on the ground here, 47 seems to be the personal puppet of Diana here, where he gets paid to do whatever, because the ICA feel like it apparently. Tangentially, 47 gets paid (since that's all he cares about) but you never actually see any money in the game, which doesn't work out badly, but might better incentivise players to perform better than just a score screen.
I found myself very very disinterested in the story which serves as nothing more than an apéritif for the next two games to come.
Which brings me on to the philosophical problems with this game, where IO interactive, much like 47, value money over all else.
Instead of crafting a complete and interesting story they continue to string you along with drips and drops of world-building where nothing happens, IO interactive had the balls to instead of selling us a complete game sold the game in parts making it confusing to purchase, especially since all the content available in this game is available in Hitman 2. (Though I've heard this was on part of SquareEnix pressuring them)
To better incentivise players to buy the game at full price as they were released, elusive target contracts were dropped as challenges for players. Insultingly there is currently no way to play these contracts any more, stealing this content away from current players.
The big problem for me, the biggest issue with this game is the always online requirements and the telemetry privacy invasion. If you read no other part of this review read hereafter.
These days, if you are playing games you are being tracked. That's the long and short of it. Whether it's indies or AAA games they want to know how, what, why you are playing so they can better manufacture and market a new product you'll part your cash for.
It gets worse. In order to play 90% (and that's not really an exaggeration) of the game you paid for you MUST be online. If you somehow lose internet connection, online saves are not compatible with offline saves. Challenges and therefore mastery and score are also unavailable. You will get a large pop-up and be taken back to the main menu where you'll see a very much stripped down game.
This is the same experience you'll have if you decline the privacy policy.
IO interactive will tell you that this is because they wanted Hitman to be a shared experience where players connect and compete, or that it is required for functionality.
The jaded cynic in me says they did this first and foremost for telemetry data and as anti-piracy measures.
And now we've seen that Hitman 3 is going to be an Epic Game Store exclusive, Tim's flash of cash really caught some eyes.
Hitman 2 doesn't have Linux support either.
Of course none of these problems are the fault of Feral Interactive, which published the Linux build, it's just unfortunate.
I had fun with this game, I knew what I was getting into when I paid for it, but I don't think I'll buy another IO Interactive product soon.
If you actually read all of my poorly crafted spiel then thank you, this review was for you.

If you like Hitman, go for it. If your looking for hours of game play then no, if you can deal with repeating the same missions or playing community content then have at it.

The game itself isn't that long, but it's all about going back into that mission, killing your target in a different way (really many ways), or trying to get silent assassin etc.
Huge praise goes to level design. That is some of the best looking maps in videogames; this include missions in Sapienza, Thailand and Bangkok.
However, there is one bad mark against this game. And that is optimisation, where FPS might drop in certain parts of the game. You going to feel that well in crowded areas of the map. Even HITMAN 2 runs better on slow PCs.
Summarizing, I should say that the story may be a bit thin, but as far as gameplay is concerned, HITMAN is an assassin's dream come true.

Yeah, sure, I could've completed all of them when they were happening the first and second time, but life happened, and so I couldn't.
It'd be another thing if there were more chances, 'cause really, in a single-player game, what's the point of not having everything be unlockable somehow, aside from punishing players for not playing the game?
