Aller Anfang ist schwer
„Hitman: Codename 47“ ist das allererste Spiel der großen Reihe. Ob es noch was taugt? Finden wir es heraus.
Gameplay
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2353906035
Grafik/Sound
Wow, als ich mit Videospielen angefangen habe, sah das SO aus? Ja, also schön ist mittlerweile wohl anders.

Cult classic that is in need of a remaster
First of all, it is worth noting that this game is in 3D and it is very outdated. With modern systems and monitors - the game has a hard time. You need to do magic stuff in txt files - otherwise it will not work properly. But after some tech prayers with config files, limiting FPS through the video card and custom control settings, the game still plays good and looks okayish, although rather low-poly.
Plot
At first glance, if you don’t know what Hitman is (lol), it may seem that the main character, is a maniac who escaped from a psychiatric hospital, and then as soon as he came out into the open world, find a job for himself - being a killer. Missions await us in China, Columbia, Budapest, Holland, and finally back to the mental hospital. Later, of course, a plot twist is revealed, but everyone already knows what the hell is going on already and how it all ended
Graphics
One of the first attempts at 3D, turned out well, funny ragdolls, clever tricks with effects to create an immersive atmosphere without sacrificing the performance at the time ... except that the shadows and water - looks bad, and some textures are painfully liquid, but there's nothing to do about it.
Anyways - nice music, excellent soundtrack, loud shooting noises, interesting targets of our protagonist and somewhat original approach to some of the missions.
Gameplay
Stealth Killer simulator - thats basically it
Try to be silent - dont kill civilians - explore a lot - read a map ffs
Re-cloth a lot to progress
Remember that this game is way more forgiving in stealth ways than the next games - you'll see why.
Difficulty curves or fun/boring tips
Since many players complain about problems with configs, controls, and finally - a lack of understanding of what to do, I decided to post quick tips about each mission in case you start writing negative reviews out of hopelessness, or maybe you'll learn some secrets and tricks/abuses that will make the game a lot more easier for you. If you know what to do, the game can be completed extremely fast btw.
1)Introduction
Boring: kill the 1-st guard, trick the other one
Fun: you can kill the 2-nd one AFTER he opened a gate, re-cloth is the key
(Yeap, there are people who dont get it playing Hitman lol)
2)Chinese park
Boring: you only need one sniper shot to win
Fun: shoot everyone except civilians from the roof
3)Car bombing
Boring: the Driver can go away TWO times, use the detonator when car is almost left the location
Fun: detonate the car near the restaurant for extra chaos
4)Cafe and lots of cops
Boring: the window is the answer - hide a weapon before starting to act
Fun: well, you can also kill the blue guy too, thats basically it
5)Lee Hong
Boring: find a lonely guard -> when you find the statue -> kill a waiter and with the poison you can kill Tzun which will make the mission extra easy
Fun: poison is for wussies (plus we need that extra 5000 bucks) just kill Lee Hong and Tzun in the restaurant, firefight incoming but IT IS a fun way
6)Jungle
Boring: dont buy 2-handed weapons, the guards wont shoot you then -> do everything fast -> use pistols to free the needed guy
7)Jaguar
Boring: Pigs are the answer (yes, they are pickable)
Extra boring: bug-climb the wall in certain places and then just run along the wall to the hole for an exit
8)Pablo
Boring: if you bring with you a sniper rifle - you can kill Pablo very fast at the start of the mission, but anyways - these missions are the main reason why everyone hates C47 - there are no stealth ways to complete this particular mission - safest way to start a firefight - is the Pablo's house
Fun way for all 3 Colombian missions: find M60 and M60 your way to the victory (I dont think you can buy it tho)
9)Hotel
Boring: this is a tough one since this mission requires a lot of exploration for yourself but I'll give a few hints anyway: Fibrewire is the only weapon you need -> blue key from a hotel cleaner -> balcony -> dont forget the big black case -> dentist -> his cabinet -> dont forget that the bomb needs to be in the case AND detectors will alarm if you have the bomb -> there are TWO exits
Fun: find a lonely cop - Minus 5000 bucks but detecors will ignore your weapons completely
10)Bikers and Ivan
Boring: changing train tracks is the answer - beware of dogs
Fun: There are OTHER bandits on the location...
11)Boris
Boring: walking along other guards is the answer - you can also go looking for car bomb for easy Boris kill
Fun: if you are lazy - you can find Boris's car and just lure him out of the ship through starting an alarm and killing him when he run towards you
The only problem in both ways - is finding the bomb before starting to act
12)Returnal
Boring: you can only kill Covax and dress as him (dont forget the key) - SWAT will ignore you completely
Fun: find a good amount of weapons and ammo and shoot EVERYONE
An old friend is the answer
13)Final
Boring: dont kill the final target to see what happens
Fun: just murder anything that moves
A dead body is the answer
TL;DR:
Very old game that aged not so well - but still can be enjoyed if you know what to do or explore a lot or just try/error your way to the win screen.
A MUST play if you starting a marathon of the series

It's a good game and interesting to see some of the gameplay mechanics in a 2000's PC game. Considering what the IO was attempting. The first few levels are very small and are the training wheels levels (as I call them) and as you progress the levels get bigger and more complicated in scope.
If you want to see the original hitman game and what was the bases for future games, give it a play. Just be aware you will need to tweak the game and its controls to make it playable. The AI can be a bit wonky as depending on the difficulty they turn on their aimbots.
Anyway, it is a game from the 2000's. A PC made in 200 with a Pentium 4 costed nearly 3k (4.5-5k if you account for inflation). So basically, don't expect it to be 100% technically sound. They did some wizardry to make it work on W10.

The AI for the bots is stupid and the maps are unnecessarily large without offering much content. The levels are overly tedious and there isn't much to go off of. They are also very boring.
There is 0 power balance in the guns, as in the SMGs or rifles being infinitely more powerful than any other gun in the game. Snipers are the only ones that make sense.
The controls are awful and it took me so much trial and error to reach a set I was comfortable with, even so, it still took me time to adapt to it. I cannot comment on graphics or physics engine or yada yada because it's a very old game. Also, it crashes often.
Still, for a 2000 PS2 game, this very much exceeded my expectations. I wanted to know the backstory of this franchise and was really burdened with the thought that playing this will be hell... it was hell, but not like, HELL, y'know? And I am definitely glad that this gave birth to this legendary franchise.
Best Wishes
Diana Burnwood. Controller. The Agency.

There are way too many problems with this game in terms of controls, slow dated gameplay, display issues, etc.
Its also known for having some of the worst levels in the series.
I would love to see a remaster or remake of this game.
I suggest playing Contracts instead as it has remastered versions of the good levels from this game.

The concessions that have been made in the game, to it difficult enough to make you feel like an actual hitman, without being obnoxious in my opinion are very good. Walking slowly in a crowd to avoid attention gets tiresome, very fast, and this game doesn't do that. But, if you took the clothes of a body that has been discovered by a guard, he and everyone around him now recognises you and you have to change clothes a second time.
If you're carrying a gun that's not used by guards in the mission, they will discover and shoot you. It all makes sense, from an immersive, but also, ultimately a game's perspective.
Also, there is *no* recoil in any weapon but sniper rifles, there's bullet disperion instead. I really like how guns are balanced in this game, You can't be a killing machine with a silenced pistol, they're too inaccurate. You can't shoot your sniper rifle unless you're scoped, meaning you have to left-click twice to fire a bullet. A mechanic that you have to get used to, but you will actually enjoy if you keep in mind that you're a hitman, not rambo. When scoped, the gun swerves in a predictable pattern. You can train yourself to deal with it effectively but you will always need a non-insignificant amount of time to set up your shot.
The game is balanced to keep the primary focus away from mass genocide. Which, off course, you can still do, as long as you don't kill non-criminals and plan out your attack ahead of time. Remember, you're a hitman, not rambo.
If you like a game that puts enough pressure on you to play like a seasoned hitman, but ultimately gives you the freedom to play however you like, this is the game for you. The clunkiness all comes secondary. Not insignificant, but still only a small hurdle to overcome.

In 2021, the original Hitman does not shake out well and expects a bit too much patience from the player. Due to poorly designed UI and navigation, lack of checkpoints, and wonky controls - the aging of this game is glaring and unavoidable, while also not surprising given its age (21 years old - it could legally drink!). I think if you had tried this game out 10 years ago, you still would have found these same problems with near equal frustration. That is to say, if you enjoyed it 10 years ago, you probably would still enjoy it today. Whereas if you are playing it for the first time, today in 2021, I'm afraid you are in for a disappointment.
It is difficult for me to say if this game was always so awkward, or if it just plays poorly on modern systems. I lean towards the former over the latter. In addition to technically playing poorly, the plot is missing in action, and what's with this overly calm and soothing music that persists throughout the game?
I know, I know. This is a classic and an old one at that. I'm an 80s baby and gamed during this era, but boy does this not make for a fun time. I respect this game for what it was, and what it started - but I'd recommend watching videos on YouTube or laugh at someone else struggle through it on Twitch. Even buying a big box version of this game to keep on your shelf makes more sense than paying for this game to play. It's just not worth it. Sadly.

Total waste of time. Trying to get it to work properly on modern hardware is a pain in the ass. Figuring out the god-awful controls is a pain in the ass. Has a shit ton of bugs. Plus, it's a very forgettable Hitman game overall. Just skip this one.

The game's 21 years old and its clunky to put it simply. The camera is weird, the controls are weird (make sure to change them to your liking before you hit play), you can't control the recoil of the guns so when you're shooting you better be praying to RNG gods for bullets to hit the enemy (god bless the mp5 which might be the most accurate gun in the game), sometimes the enemies can turn in the blink of an eye and instantly shoot you and in rare occasions they just straight up shoot you through walls and to top it off: you are thrown into the missions with instructions of what you must accomplish but you're completely on your own and you must figure out pretty much everything through trial and error meaning dying is learning. Its a love hate relationship that you will have with this game.
But past its impractical gameplay i have to admit i found it pretty AWESOME: the atmosphere is great, the music is great, this game encourages you to think freely of how you want to complete your objectives because there is no linear way of completing them and the order doesn't matter as well. You'll start to piece out the story of the game in the later half of it, what you've been doing and the contracts you took will take an interesting turn.
Now i remember the 2nd game being difficult but man: this game is for sure a hard cookie to go through, might as well be one of the toughest games i've played. The The Lee Hong Assassination is probably the most beloved mission of them all and one of the hardest but by far the hardest is Say Hello To My Little Friend (to me at least).
As it stands i'd say its at least a 7/10, i heard the later games vastly improve on the gameplay side and i'm thrilled to find that out!

The game's story is enjoyable. The voice acting is hilarious for the most part. 47s voice actor is amazing.
In conclusion, codename 47 is an old game and it feels like it. Only get it if you're either huge fan of the franchise or have nostalgic memories of it.

Overall it has some great and relatively complex levels that leave you to figure out what to do as you go. There's no objective markers or maps that tell you where people are, you get a classic briefing with pictures and video along with general info on targets and a simple map with very basic info. This is the most pure classic Hitman game because of the lack of hand holding and it gets balanced out nicely by disguise system isn't nerffed by a suspicion meter like it was on Hitman 2 and Contracts.
Modifying the controls is a must as the standard set is incredibly dated, it's easy enough to set it up similar to Hitman 2/Contracts controls.
For compatibility on modern systems I highly recommend running with the OpenGL render or using dgVoodoo2 to emulate 3DFX Glide, also setting up DSOAL to enable the sweet EAX effects and 3D audio will improve your experience.

It's been two decades since this was released.
I enjoyed it back then and It's neat even now.
Some things are quite dated, but that is okay.
I would so love to see a remake in the future.
The first three games just really deserve one.
Codename 47 is great for the nostalgia folks.
Brand new players will probably just dislike it.
It's a videogame classic at this point, though.
One of the OG grandpas of the Stealth genre.
This game just deserves a big positive review.

With no saves, brutally lethal and super sensitive enemies even on the easiest difficulty, little means to hide bodies, limited weapons, and extremely little guidance, sure, this game proves a proper challenge to even the most seasoned hitman players. But perhaps therein also lies its beauty. The open map format of this original hitman game encourages so much experimentation and little things to try. The attention to detail, for a game of that time, is nothing short of amazing. The physics simulation in the game was revolutionary at the time. From the realistic moving of foliage in the jungle, to the swinging of Mr 47's tie, these details still fill me with fuzzy warm feelings.
To me, Hitman 2: Silent Assassin remains the game that made the hitman franchise to what it is today. Still, the origins of the hitman franchise, with Codename 47, are more than worthy of exploration, and it is staggering as to how much of Codename 47 still lives on to today's modern hitman games. This includes epic location choices (restaurant, jungle, strip club, ship, hotel, you name it!), an emotionally engaging story, the now classic game mechanics, and above all, the impeccable sense of Mr 47's humour.
So, if you enjoy any hitman game but you have not yet played this one, and you are not afraid of a challenge, go and pick it up! I bet you won't regret it.

Graphics are not so great.
It is not so easy to play and you can fail easily.
There is no save game option. If you want to save the game, you have to pass the chapter. That is it.
Also you have to tweak some .ini files in order to play it properly.
This game is only good for hardcore HITMAN fans who played this game when it was first released and want to play it again for nostalgia purpose.
I think you should read the storyline of this game and start from HITMAN: Silent Assassin.

The narratives are well-made, the mission designs are memorable, and although this game has been proven difficult without saves, the story is efficacious enough as a contribution to my persistence. There can't just be another game like Hitman, and Codename 47 proves that when the story is well structured and effectively allows the player to connect with the protagonist in combination to adequate game plays, a good game is birthed. The story is uniquely Hitman's and Hitman's alone. Although one might speak of the physics in an accusatory tone, the cloth animation and ragdoll physics at the time was something of a revolution. I say, give it a try if you love Hitman.

No regenerating health for starters. No medkits either, just kevlar vests that function as a second health bar. If you get shot in the head, that kevlar vest isn't doing jack shit and your health is going to go down real quick.
Your guns have random spread. This is typical of games by the developer IO Interactive. If you played Kane & Lynch 2, you'll know what I mean.
No quick saves, and the checkpoints are useless in a game like this. Press Shift+ESC and restart the level.
The controls are weird. Run and walk are mapped to separate keys. You'll get used to them.
This game was programmed for Windows 95/98, so unless you haven't upgraded your operating system in the past 20 years, then you will have to patch the game to work on your modern PC. The patch is posted in the community hub, and applying it is simple.
For the most part, none of these gameplay gripes matter because you are supposed to play as an assassin, not Rambo. Quiet kills with the piano wire, knife and silenced firearms, and clever disguises will get you far and keep you off the radar of the guards. If you find yourself getting shot up by guards, or running around with an AK-47, then you are playing the game all wrong.
However this becomes an issue in the series of missions set in
Colombia and the final mission of the game.
These missions play more like a third person shooter. You will get smoked by guards who don't miss a shot, and you will be frantically running around with a Kalashnikov.
This might sound like a lot of complaining, but I still recommend this game. The missions that let you silently infiltrate a large compound and assassinate your mark are some of the most satisfying moments in the stealth game genre. If you don't like the hand holding in modern games, the waypoints, the X-ray vision, the intentionally dumb guards, then this game is for you. If you can tolerate goofy early 2000s graphics with weird controls then this game is for you. If you like your games slow paced, and with minimal direction given to the player, this game for you. If you want to support a top notch developer that still makes these kinds of games for the people who play them, this game is for you.
If you like the number 47, then this game is for you.

This is important, because it's the selling point of the game. You have all these potential possibilities and -- especially in 2000 -- creative ways to interact with the environment, right? But you don't. You actually have to do everything in a very specific way on very specific timing you can have no hope of knowing. The sense of openness and possibility is an ILLUSION. I suspect the manual or something had hints to help you along the way a bit but even that would kind of defeat the purpose.
Also the controls are pretty terrible, which is frustrating when timing is everything.
I actually enjoy the semblance of a story, if you can get to it. This might've wow'd me as a kid, but even then it wouldn't have taken me long to scratch through the skin-deep facade of depth. I don't recommend it. Only attempt this if you are an insane completionist like me and you have a good guide.
