A fighting game about sword dueling, in which the blades really clash using physics, and the characters use motion captured fencing techniques. Play as one of many 17th century warriors and use sabers, rapiers, broadswords and many other blades in quick fights, survival mode or LOCAL multiplayer with friends (you can play online too with Steam Remote Play Together). You can also casually spar with wooden weapons now!

Hellish Quart uses active ragdolls and all damage your blade can do is calculated with realtime physics. Four gamepad buttons represent 4 attack angles. Different button combinations give special attacks and combos. If you are not attacking, your character will automatically try to hold guard against your opponent's attacks. The blades really block each other and that's what's keeping you alive. To win, you must use proper timing, measure, technique, speed and wits - just like when fencing in the real world.

Hellish Quart has a historical setting. The game takes place in 17th century Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. The character models are made using 3D scanned clothes, based on fashion from the period, and the single player campaign (when done!) will be firmly rooted in realities of life in the region. You will duel Zaporozhian Cossacks, Polish Hussars, Tatars, Turkish Janissaries, Swedish Reiters, French Musketeers and more.

This game is symple but very well created. It is even the mostly realistic sword fight game I have ever played before. Sure there are not that much possibilitis in this early access mode, but even then, I can recommend to buy this game, if you want a few duell fights against the computer or against a friend. A story mode is not available now but should be part in the game later.

From the Standpoint of HEMA you can say there are quite a lot realistic parts of this game. To example the longsword moves and the rapier moves are very well done. Even the saber have his own fascination and every move is well combined with the right footwork. So it is truely a HEMA simulator who simualtes the 17 century duell fights

So it is the best HEMA practice in the Corona time

This game should deserves to be supported, because this early acces game has a big potential. I am looking forward to the story mode

Ich liebe dieses Game! Es ist einfach viel authentischer/realistischer als alle anderen Games die ich gespielt habe. Sei es nun die Physik, der Sound oder die Charaktere. Obwohl es nur ein - zugegebener Maßen anmerkbarer - Early Acces ist, ohne wirkliches Belohnungssystem und mit einem (noch) schlechtem Online Mode, hat es schon jetzt ein gewisses Sucht Potenzial.. ich spiele es nicht ohne Grund so ziemlich jeden Tag für wenigstens 3-4 Runden. Von daher: KLARE KAUFEMPFEHLUNG (auch im Early Acces.. diese 12€ sind es Wert) :D
Außerdem spürt man auch richtig die Lernkurve. Ich empfehle jeden sich auch das fortgeschrittene ingame Tutorial anzugucken sobald er/sie die Basics raus hat. Das hat zum mindest mir viel geholfen nicht nur irgendwelche Tasten zu spammen und stattdessen bewusster zu spielen.
Und wenn man sich dann noch die Entwickler Streams anguckt und sieht was für geile - aber natürlich immer noch authentische - Combos die da raushauen, merkt man auch wie kompetitiv das ganze werden kann. Deshalb freue ich mich dann auch schon auf einen Ranked Mode mit nicen Belohnungen (Skins, neue Charaktere etc. sollen ja auch alles noch kommen).

Its a pretty good game over all.

Pros
It has that simple graphical type of characters and place.
Easy to play and fun too.

Cons
Limited modes to go with (since still under Early Access)
Get bored after some times of repeatative gameplays.

But overall, its a good one to go

An amazing game made by a pretty small group of developers. The amount of love and attention to detail poured into this historically accurate dueling simulator is amazing, and it is obvious that Kubold really cares about the the culture and history of the Polish/Lithuanian commonwealth, which much of the game is centered around. Furthermore, the developers are updating and polishing the game fairly often, and it is clear to me that Hellish Quart will continue to improve for many years to come.

Definitely worth the purchase, especially with a friend to duel.

Great sword-fighting game with good sound effects and animations. Yeah, it's pretty raw right now, but i hope devs will continue to make updates and fixes. It would be great to see multiplayer (ofc), more gore and in general content.

The most realistic sword-fighting game since Bushido Blade. Although it obviously can't match the tactical depth of a real sword fight, especially in areas like grappling and binding, this game probably represents the best that can be done using a gamepad. Highly recommended for all HEMA enthusiasts in particular.

This is one of the best swordfighting simulators I have ever experienced. The only think I almost wish was possible would be using the right stick for my fighting rather then buttons with a couple modifiers. However even if only buttons with modifiers it still is amazing to witness and participate, it feels so weighted and meaningful.

What a satisfying game. Combat is so much fun and you can feel that this is a real passion project. It's a bit light on content yet, but the asking price is very low so I can fully recommend it. I'm having a great time mastering the different characters and improving my survival score. The physics based fighting feel amazing and the fights are tactical yet fast and thrilling.

Only thing that I want for the future is integrated online multiplayer without parsec, because it doesn't work well for me.

Still, very nice game, I love it and can't stop playing it.

It's a cool game to play with friends. Something what I never played before and so far I really like it. The only thing which I don't like is black screen for the beginning of the new rounds but that's just a minor issue, other then that I had tons of fun while playing it :)

I would like to bring this to your notice that you are wasting your precious life by reading reviews here !!.. Simply put this darn game in your cart and buy it. You already have many unplayed garbage bought on sale so it's ok.

Please be aware that this is thousand times better than tekken or MK alikes..those are mindless kids button smasher with zillion button combos of powerful wheesh whoosh farts...

This is a very realistic sword fighter which can cut necks and balls of people infront of you. Great content and much more to come. Developer seems to be a great human sword fetish lover. Much more content to come and he would supoort the community for a very long time.

CONS:

I wish it had online support..as parsec is cumbersome and useless as people disconnect and join randomly. remote play well ,first you have to convince sadistic people in your list to stop playing their sadistic games and join you..doesn't work. Slightly more optimisation won't hurt..

Best animations in any game ever. I honestly can't believe what I am seeing. It's incredibly dynamic and realistic, it feels like a movie. I'm pretty sure I cut off a guy's nose and he looked at it, but I'll never be sure because you never seem to see the same animation twice.

Amazing sword-clinking fighting game that either ends with: both of you bleeding to death on a muddy field or one of you returning home triumphant to probably die of sepsis from your infected wound days later.

Very fun. Easy to learn, but has a high skill ceiling especially with longsword. Very passionate dev who frequently keeps player base informed. Game really does suffer from a lack of dedicated multiplayer, there is a way to do it with a third party website, and you can play it with friends on Steam Remote Play, aside from that I really have no complaints.

Like Soul Calibur mixed with Battle Arena Toshiden's 1 shot knock outs and then mixed with authentic Historical European Martial Arts. The duels feel and mostly look awesome, it just feels so hype one shotting someone after skilfully dodging, guarding or feinting. The developers have consistently put out game updates and news updates on Steam and their youtube channel. I can't wait to see where this game goes.

The ONLY videogame that recreates sword duels realistically, and in a FUN way, this game makes you feel a master swordsman of the era. There are different characters, each with their unique fighting style, and you can play against a friend for countless fights without feeling tired. Reminds a lot of Bushido Blade, but without the most fantasy elements. It's incredible how all the fights remind,also, about HEMA. The only downside is the graphic, but the most important thing is that it's fun. The animation are almost all very well done. Highly recommended.

Ever since Bushido Blade 2 I have been looking for a fighting game like this, and it does not dissapoint. As expected from an early acces title, it still has its flaws though.

The good:
-Realistic damage (1 good hit can kill)
-Graphics are good
-Physics based

The bad:
-The animations sometimes don't blend well with the physics, especially when getting too close to eachother the ragdolls will act weird.
-No online multiplayer (probably because it is physics based)
-Limited content (but updates quite often)

I would already give it an 8/10 but for most people this game would probably be a 6/10 right now and I feel this game will remain inside a bit of a niche market if they will not be able to get it to work online. It would be huge if they get online multiplayer to work though, it would be succesful for many years to come because there is nothing like this.

This game is very suitable for fans of cold weapon fighting, and the feeling of a fatal blow is very refreshing. However, there are too few characters to choose from, and the volume cannot be controlled after entering the interface for the first time. Online battles are not perfect enough.

It is ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL

One of if not the BEST REALISTIC SWORD FIGHTING DUEL GAME in STEAM, the game includes a variety of different characters each with their own unique sword technique. The combat feels heavy and REAL, the clashing of blades feels real, like each hit sounds and feels like there's WEIGHT with each swing. The MUSIC absolutely matches perfectly with the gameplay and pace of a match, some duels may even feel like you and your opponent are DANCING.

Yes the game is in EARLY ACCESS but the devs put REAL work into the game, expanding the cast of characters, adding new maps/backgrounds, music, animations, etc.

The game is growing quite well and I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND the game to people who like history, duels, sword fighting, and realism.

I had a round where I nicked my opponent in the leg then retreated. He slowly limped towards me as I held my guard up high, but stopped when I lowered it. The AI actually shows fear, especially when you have wounded them. Definitely my favourite part about this game.

Get this if you like swordfighting.

On sale this is an absolute steal. Yes, it's currently lacking in content (the lack of online multiplayer being probably the biggest pain point), but the engine itself is very solid and amazing for game nights. It's one of the few fighting games where mirror matches are somehow more exciting than regular ones.
More importantly, it's a game with a purpose. It wants to present something new and interesting (HEMA) instead of regurgitating current trends.

I would call this a hyper realistic sword fighting game no life bars a few good hits or even one well placed shot will end the fight not alot of guys three of them are similar with scimitars but the combos are diffrent also more characters being worked on. Overall its a fun brutal sword fighter.

Currently this game is an early early access. With only 5 and 1/2 classes the game is fun, but is a long way from finished. With that being said the gameplay and art direction is really strong. I would recommend this to someone who is into arcade-style fighting games, it's a lot of fun.

This isn't your Dad's favorite fighting game; it's your ancestor's favorite fighting game. Combat is historically accurate and realistic, making it one of the most unique games I've ever played in the genre. Tons of fun, easy to pick up yet difficult to master.

However, that realism that's so captivating can also be one of the game's downfalls at times. If you get cut, you're probably dead. And while this is in fact what would happen if you got hit with a sword in real life, at times it can make the matches seem too quick. It's not uncommon for a fight to be over in a matter of seconds.

However that is literally the only complaint i have. Great game

you hit people with big swords, curved swords and thin pokey swords. whats not to love about that?

Still in early access but I really like the game. I've spent the most time playing Isabella who uses a longsword. Several characters use sabers and one uses a rapier. More characters are planned for the future. Feels similar to a traditional fighting game with very unique and interesting sword physics.

Reminds me of Deadliest Warrior video game better graphics with more realistic swordplay. Not a button smasher you have to be patient and wait for your opponent to make a mistake. Great deaths wish there were more limb losses or eviscerations. Great party game!

As someone who's been fencing for almost 15 years, this game captures the feeling of fencing the most accurately out of any game I've ever played. Rarely does a mistake not feel like my fault, unexplainable or that I couldn't have done something safer and differently. Control the engagement, do things safely, know how to respond and adapt as naturally as you can breathe and you may well come to the same conclusions about the fighting system in this game, as well as how tightly the mechanics are 95% of the time.

The characters can't yet do everything that I want them to do from moment-to-moment (nor as I would always do them), nor do I expect them to by the time the game comes out of Early Access, but like any abstraction it's like an artist's palette - you just need to learn and get used to how to express yourself with the given tools, of which you honestly have many to work with.

Highly recommended even at this early stage if you find bouting addictive IRL. If tightly-integrated multiplayer is a necessary thing for you, you might want to hold off a bit until they do proper Parsec integration.

I loved Bushido Blade. Loved it so much. One of the most unique games on the original Playstation, and so very much in my wheelhouse (I like sharp objects). I saw this listed on the internet in an article talking about Bushido Blade and similar games and hoped... that it would be decent... and...

Play this game! Europe has its own colorful sword-fighting history, and pastoral farm scenes can be as good a place to chop someone into ribbons as a zen garden in a cloud overlooking Mt Fuji or whatever. It is quite bare-bones at the moment, but if you just want to sword-fight, the 'Fight!'/'Survival' mode is all you need for some great, bite-size bits of gaming. Quick loading screens, smooth and convincing animations, intuitive gamepad controls, and exactly the feeling I remember from Bushido Blade: quick, shockingly fast game-overs, satisfying metal scrapes and clangs, exquisite sword swipes and lunges and jabs and that wincing vicarious 'oh that's gotta hurt!' sensation.

As a bonus, 'victory' animations that keep making me chortle. And this is still early Early Access. Very much looking forward to this game's future!

i enjoy it very much. the downside is i now challenge almost anyone to a duel over just about anything. you prefer lugz over timbs? lets duel. expeditiously.

Yes, This is the swordfighting game you've been looking for - if you're into realism and high skill ceiling.

I thought I found something that wasn't working properly with the longsword stances, but it turns out I just didn't know enough: the attacks depend on which foot you have forward.

Already at this stage it's very deep - and Polished...

Loved Bushido Blade? Love HEMA? Then this game is for you!

Probably the most accurate fencing game to date. If i can apply my actual HEMA fencing knowledge to the game then its a definite win in my book! Definitely pick it up if you love high tension fighting games!

It has a distinctive mashup of Bushido Blade, Mount & Blade, and Dark Souls going on with that ineffable jank you love to see.

The inclusion of remote play support over Steam requires that only one person purchase a copy. Controller highly recommended.

So far as future development, I wish that you could select weapons independently of the character and also add in wooden implements to practice with.

Polishido Blade. 5/5 stars, would slash again.

P.S: Please at some point add a katana-wielding ronin, this is DLC I would actually pay for.

I had few hours of fun in demo and im sure the ea version will give me another few hours, however, the most important feature for me, which is online multiplayer is not here yet (it requires some weird external client) so I don't recommend it yet if you're looking for online pvp game
