Do you enjoy sorting your inventory, and returning to sell stuff halfway through a five minute level?
Do you despise frame rates higher than single digits?
Does it tickle your fancy to combine mmo storytelling at its averageist mixed with playstation 2 graphics?
Do you really want colors other than red, gray, and brown in your game?
Do you want randomly generated levels that almost always turn out to be a corridor?
It sounds awful, but for some reason I don't understand, I still like this thing. Don't buy it, it's wonderful.

On one hand, this is literally one of the of the only ways to experience Hellgate Global content, something not even London 2038 has. For someone who's finished Hellgate London literally hundreds of times, being able to enjoy that content is amazing.
But on the OTHER hand... the game has a lot of bugs that are STILL HERE FROM THE OLD HELLGATE LONDON, as well as an array of new ones. The dialog is clearly Korean filtered through Google Translate, as even original dialog from OG Hellgate has been effected.
And that's not even getting into the 1 FPS bug...
But... it's still got content you can't get otherwise. If you want the best Hellgate London experience, you're better off using the reborn mod, Nagahaku mod, Lost London, or if you're willing to deal with their questionable balance choices London 2038.

There's so much bloat in this version with achievements, awards, special quests that essentially have you roleplay a different character, and all with the difficulty chopped down to an 8th of its original difficulty, The game pretty much plays itself. Do yourself a favor and purchase a physical copy from a third party source so you can play that version instead.

Found myself frustrated by the new version - you are almost invincible (did not have cause to use a health injector in 5 hours of gameplay!) and I seemed to be going around in circles from Holborn Station with repeated identical quests and not being able to progress to Covent Garden Station.
Got a reload of the original game (with the 1.2 patch and found it much more to my tastes. You need the health injectors and the game progresses with ease and, the dialogue seems much better. The graphics might be slightly less and I get occasional stutters when moving but it seems a far superior experience.

Its a hyped game when it comes up more than a decade ago. It died naturally since EA did not care to make it worth the price. It is surprising the new version here is still so underwhelming, 14 years later. It might met some nostaigia, the reason I pay for a copy, but not worth the time in terms of game play.

This is a game that came out in 2007. It was made by a small company. yeah, the textures on some walls are horrific or just grey. Yes, you wont see the bullets firing from the gun. yes theres some archaic things about it... this game was made in 2007. the crew of 2038 did an amazing job of keeping the game perfectly in tact while giving the right QOL improvements to the necessary points in the game. Besides that, its a perfect feel of nostalgia.
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME if you are looking for cutting edge. This is a futuristic, 3rd/fpv version of diablo if hell fully took over from the viewpoint of 2007.
Do buy the game if you wish to enjoy some oldschool love and oddness.

“I live... AGAIN!”
~Caleb (BLOOD)
* sigh * OK, now this is gonna be lo-o-o-ong review... See, this game? It comes with one heck of a history. You know, some games are just... unlucky. Sometimes, some crimes... wait, sorry. That was just something from my Disney Afternoon youth. Anyway, sometimes a certain title just... I dunno. You know how sometimes you wake up in the morning just to find out that the entire world is against you so you decide that the best thing to do is to stay in bed? Well, let's just say that the story of Hellgate started with something like that. Technically? It was supposed to be good. Years later, Bill Roper (yes, the same Bill Roper who worked on the original Diablo's story and design) still claims that he proud of what he and Flagship Studios achieved in this game. And you know what? There's a good reason for that. Sure, Hellgate: London didn't age that well. Nowadays? You can get the same exact experience (even better, actually) in pretty much any cheap MMO. But back in 2007? It was pretty daring. It was a fully 3D third person Diablo-like ARPG. With guns. In a pretty interesting setting where three Warhammer-like factions fought Diablo-like evil forces. In the future. In a bloody London metro. With Diablo II-like advanced multiplayer. In other words, it... was... supposed... to... be... epic. And in a way? It was. But only on paper. In reality, it turned out to be pretty clunky, unpolished, repetitive and not nearly as addicting as good ol' Diablo. I mean, sure, it wasn't nearly as bad as Etrom: The Astral Essence (the game that tried to use pretty similar concept about a year before Hellgate), but all in all, it was unable to compete even with the most basic competitors like Silverfall in a single player, while when it was about multiplayer, quite a lot of people were still playing games like Diablo II, SACRED and Dungeon Siege. Just because neither of those games asked extra money for online, while Hellgate? It tried to play it smart and asked $9.95 per month for subscription. Well, technically you were able to play online for free, but you were unable to access stuff like content updates, guild creation, PvP arenas, shared storage, etc. In other words, it was some sort of hybrid between single player game and the MMO. And it... kinda sucked at both. Long story short, Hellgate flopped and serves were shut down in early 2009 (imagine how bad it felt for those who paid $149.99 for lifetime subscription).
But you know what? That's not where our story ends. Unfortunately... Because that's exactly where Korean publisher HanbitSoft came in. The guys kinda liked the fact that Hellgate was pretty much perfect for f2p model (which, as we all know, is extremely popular on Asian market), so, naturally, they bought it and... well... re-released it as an Asian f2p title. The Korean version came with both content updates from Flagship (The Stonehenge Chronicles and the Abyss Chronicles), but also added a new one called The Second Invasion. Eventually, they even tried to bring the game back to global market as Hellgate Global, bu-u-u-ut... let's just say it didn't live long. Just because many years since the initial release, nobody really wanted the game that wasn't that good to begin with. Even the second Korean expansion called Hellgate: Tokyo (that even included the new difficulty level) was unable to save the game. In other words, in 2016, exactly nine years since the initial flop, Hellgate flopped again. But no, that's not where our story ends either. Ladies and gentlemen, please, welcome – Hellgate. That lives... again... kind of...
* sigh * Yeah... And that's where sh*t hits the fan for real. Let's start with the good stuff, though. First thing first – this version comes with pretty much all the stuff we had in Hellgate Global. You played the original Hellgate: London back in the days? You'll be surprised just how much new content there is in this version. Like a bloody Energizer Bunny from Hell, this game keeps going and going and going until your eyes begin to bleed. And then it keeps going even further. Stonehenge is here, Abyss is here, Second Invasion is here, even Tokyo with its extra difficulty. It's all here. And let's just admit it, it's pretty cool. I mean, seriously. For only $12.99 you can get the entire thing without all that Korean f2p bull. You pay once? You get it all (and you get it now!~ ♫). Sounds cool, huh? Well... let's just say that's where good things end and suffering begin.
First – this version doesn't have multiplayer support. That's right. Even though the Hellgate was born as heavily multiplayer-oriented title and rebooted as f2p online thingy? Now there's no multiplayer at all. Because reasons. You want multiplayer? Screw you, go play something else. No way to re-enable multiplayer here. Even with third-party tools (we'll return to those a bit later). Sounds bad already, but... it only gets worse. See, even though multiplayer isn't there anymore, nobody cared to properly re-balance this game. Even my strongest tank died during Tokyo parts in bloody seconds. On lowest difficulty! Just because those parts? Those were not designed for single player. And even though more Hellgate may sound good for old fans... let's just say those Korean expansions feel pretty terrible. Not only they're terribly balanced at this point, they were pretty poorly made to begin with.
But wait, wait, the “best” thing is coming. See, quite a lot of the original stuff was removed in Hellgate Global. And... they didn't bring it back for this release. Long story short, we only have DirectX 9 version of the game now and... it looks like crap. It only has low quality textures, low quality cinematics and visual effects were heavily reduced. Thankfully, you can bring all that back by downloading a few more gigabytes of data (just check the community hub here, in Steam, God bless those who cared enough to provide help) or just taking it from your old DVD version of the game, but seriously, what the heck? A modern re-release looking way worse than 2007 version? Screw you, HanbitSoft. Just... screw you. Also, yes, Energizer Diablo strikes back and even that isn't the end of our story. Because, even though visuals here were seriously reduced, this version... comes with a terrible 1 FPS bug. Most likely, you won't notice it during the original Hellgate campaign, but in the second half of the game? Surprise, MOFOs! Even on lowest resolution with everything turned off, this game will still give you 1 FPS hell. And yes, there is a way to fix it through the third-party software, but honestly, what... the... f*ck... is... wrong... with... this... version?!
And the funniest this is? There's a fan-made version of Hellgate available online. It's called Hellgate 2038 and... it has everything. All the expansions (including Tokyo), high quality visuals and no 1FPS bug. Heck, even the multiplayer is still there! How cool is that?! Like I said, Hellgate didn't really age that good. Personally? I'd say, it's one of those old games that aren't really worth re-visiting nowadays. But if you really do want to check it out? Google Hellgate 2038. This? This version is just broken. And even though with enough patience and third-party stuff you can make it somewhat playable, with absolutely broken balance and no multiplayer? It's still a joke. Dixi.

This 2018 foul abomination Hellgate : London aka Tokyo 2018 sucks balls. It's graphics are blurry and DX9 makes it look really old, that's not at all how the original looked like. The original game looks a ton better, while this one is an insult to the community and an affront to the legacy of the original game.
If you want to play Hellgate look for the original.

The Game is still an ok Hackn Slay, but you clearly see its Age on Npcs that stand like Puppets around and have Quests over their Heads.
Its something like the first Hybrid between Fps and Hackn Slay if you play a Ranged Class and came out in a Time before Borderlands where this was completely new.So shooting Guns in this Game somehow doesnt feel right but also isnt Bad.
I dont recommend it cause i think most of the Players will probably not like it.
The Game has definite Flaws, and its current Publisher even didnt care about deleting Stuff from its MMO Phase.
So Stuff like an Ingame Chat and a Email Sign is still in it.
I somehow like it,dont know why.
Probably because i like the Idea of MMOS but arent into playing with other People.
To me Killing Demons never gets Old,and i love the Athmosphere of it.
But i recommend to People probably more Games like Grim Dawn and Stuff,or if you need Fps Borderlands for sure.

It was Hyped , It's launched in a extremely akward way , Flagship died and the game was brought by another studio , delivered as a free to play then died again ... and finally it's been brought back from the mud it's layed it's face in and resold as a worst version on steam.
Even without the glitches and censorships of the steam version hellgate london just doesn't hold up as one great memorable game , Melee combat feel like mashing potatoes and guns feel like firing big toys meant for kids which is a shame because the overall atmosphere of the destroyed and crumbling london is awesome.
I've personally installed HD textures and use Reshade to give the visuals some uplift from the degraded one of the steam version and I'd say the game is still decent in that regard.
enemies design are varied and truly show some impressive creativity and even the Dungeon generator do a fit job at always making you feel like you've been there before but there always something different whenever you restart the game.
final note
I'd say this game Deserve a new Official Remake in a better more modern engine , it's totally deserve modern gameplay that take the best of Diablo dungeon looting but with a fresh paint for action , gores and Adrenaline ... and that Remake would totally Deserve to be great enough that even Boderland would feel like childplay in comparission.

Close Steam >>> Move to your Install folder >>> Open the BIN folder >>> Start via Hellgate_sp_x86 (Play with Steam CLOSED). (Helped me a bit)
Game runs on 1 Core, how much you have doesn´t matter, running Steam/ other stuff at the same time seem to makes it worse.
Hope you can finally enjoy your playthrough.

This is literally a downgrade from the original release.
1. No multiplayer... the original game was basically intended to be played primarily online.
2. DirectX 9 Graphics... the original game looked incredible in DirectX 10. This version sucks.
3. Buggier for most people than the original.
It does have some newer content that OG gamers maybe didn't get the chance to play, but I just couldn't bring myself to keep going without the online feature and the DirectX 10 graphics. Too bad.
At least announce Hellgate 2 or something if you don't plan on fixing this game.

Hellgate: London sortof felt like a single-player MMO, if there was one. This game used to have been online at the time, so now it's been watered down to an ARPG for SP. It was originally developed by some former Blizzard staff that oversaw the Diablo series, so it's kinda a no-brainer that it'd attract me playing it because I do love me some Diablo games from time to time.
This game does play similarly to what you'd expect from it's time, given what it's worth. Meaning that it's a bit clunky and unpolished, visuals that are in between generations of gaming and gameplay that has a limited run of the mill for your time.
Though it pains me to realize after combing through reviews and doing some minor research, that this version of the game on Steam isn't the real deal. What basically happened is that a third party developer came in at some point, decided they were going to make this game free to play, re-work the graphics, gut out some features and then eventually re-release it. Which would give us this result.
It was quite a revelation to me and it bums me out a little to know that what I was playing, was more or less a shell of it's former self. Former players of this game can point that out to you, if you find them. Even though I've given this game a fair shake of my time and was indulged on the gameplay and some intriguing mechanics, knowing now that I was playing a wannabe cash grab, it was a huge downer.

If you played this game on CD before it was mutilated and reborn into a free to play game, I implore you to not purchase this. Until Hanbit fixes the mess they've ignored for years and years, they do not deserve, in any shape or form, your or anyone's money. They've taken a game many people enjoyed even with it's shortcomings from the unfortunately fated Flagship Studios and simply wrecked the experience with all the trappings of South Korean F2P MMOs, crudely cutting out a single player experience with the finesse of a drunken surgeon with a rusty spoon.
Please just wait for word of a legitimate update or find a retail copy of the CD.

The answer for me was yes. There's quite a bit different, and I think that is worth the $10 Cdn I paid on sale.
There is a huge issue with frame rate periodically dropping to 1 FPS for brief periods. It looks like one of the threads is pinning the CPU and slowing the entire game down, and it seems to involve line of sight calculations. Fortunately, the Hellgate Revival forum has an app that uses a memory hook to fix the issue, though it makes me wonder why a third party was able to identify and fix the issue but the developer couldn't. I also strongly recommend using a mod from that forum to increase inventory size as the 2018 version has the same ridiculously restrictive small inventory the original had.
There's new content, which is always nice. New areas, new monsters, new bosses. More variety is a good thing.
There's quite a bit of skill updates and rebalancing. Summoners in particular are a lot more viable and have completely new play styles available to them. Some of the weapons seem to have been tweaked as well; the wasp hive notably has a much shorter delay before firing. Respecs are available in store at quite reasonable prices, and the stat respec also respecs drone stats, so setting up a drone for melee and deciding to switch to guns is doable without having to start a whole new engineer.
Some of the more irritating quirks are remedied. The game only runs in DX9 now, but weather effects now work in DX9, so you no longer have to switch to DX10 to see weather and back to DX9 so the flashlight works. I suspect there's a graphical downgrade stemming from going down to DX9, but this game is old enough that graphics really aren't a priority anyway. Character models have been modified to have a more Asian MMO look, but that's such a minor thing that I wouldn't have noticed had other people not complained about it.
There are some irritating MMO features that were fiddled with when they should have been removed. Some weapons have accessory slots that aren't initially available, and require you to buy an item from the store to unlock. That's a completely useless feature I'd be happier without. Removing accessories has a hefty chance of destroying them unless you buy an expensive consumable item to guarantee their survival, and that's a change I really detest. Accessories are already going to level out of being usable, so adding a new mechanic to destroy them seems unnecessary and incredibly irritating.
There's a full time 30% experience buff which can't be removed or disabled. It feels like I'm leveling up faster than the difficulty curve of content is going up. Difficulty can be selected from a dropdown while in any of the hubs to mitigate that, but it's odd that they'd put in a visible buff rather than just changing the XP tables internally.
All in all, I think the updates and new content make the 2018 version worth buying, but like the original you need to use mods to make playing it less tedious.

Listen, I LOVE Hellgate London. Bought and played it on launch. I was delighted to see it on Steam.
Now I find it is buggy as hell, has missing endgame content (most of the endgame content, that is), no multiplayer and hobbled graphics.
Avoid this game until they finally invest time in it to make worth your money.
People are calling this a cash grab and I am inclined to agree with them.
Avoid, avoid and avoid some more until someone who appears to care shows up.

THIS IS NOT HELLGATE LONDON!
It should be against steams rules to sell a game under false pretenses, but that is what this is.
This is not HELLGATE London. This is instead a gutted version of an MMO made for Asian markets known as Hellgate Global.
Hellgate global sacrifice the story and immersion of Hellgate London to create a multiplayer experience more akin to something like a mobile game. This version is that, except they removed the multiplayer...
I was stunned and shocked when I started up the game. Billions of unnecessary tooltips, screen clutter, cheap UI, horrible mistranslations and MMO like features that didn't even work. Worst of all, there's this persistent weird lag to the game that makes it feel as if you're playing online even though you're not.
If you have fond memories of playing Hellgate London in the past: skip this.
This is not the game you remember and frankly, it should not be on steam advertising itself as the game we know and love.
Until GOG or someone gets the rights to the *real* original game, it looks like the best bet is still to just buy the original CD-ROM online.

So much potential. would recommend if you can get this game cheap, and don't mind multiple exits from the game to fix a bug. And you don't mind not being able to complete quests.

Despite this, blinded by nostalgia, I love this dumpster fire of code that pretends it's a game. Being able to play an often Top-Down game in first person is satisfying as it lets you bob and weave through attacks and actually fight your foes giving you freedom and coordination in a Diablo-Style lootpergee.
The mix of classes is enjoyable, the Templar being fun front-line warriors that love their sleek futuristic knight armor, the ex-military getting revenge with high firepower and robotics, and the Cabal taming the demon's own magic to launch it back with spells or summoned demons.
I like the game. The horribly coded mess.

Honestly, if you're ok with it its worth a buy for the story if you can get it cheap, but it just doesn't seem right without the bustling hub.

It is playable ... if you can find your way around the bugs.. some people have made their own fixes, and some have ideas how to help with certain ones.. like the alt button not working.. i used cntr+alt+del to go-to task manager, and then tab back to the game, and it resolved... dont know why.. but it worked for me.
Purchase at your own risk!

It's a shame the framerate issues makes all of this a moot point. Can't reccomend since I've found no way to fix it, rendering the game unplayable.
