Ein Thriller als Game, so würde ich das Spiel beschreiben! Wirklich hammer Story und trotz Alter spielenswert! Nur die Steuerung hat mich an einigen Stellen verzweifeln lassen ... ????

Die Steuerung am PC ist furchtbar. Ich hatte angefangen mit Controller zu spielen, damit konnte ich aber die Teller nicht auf den Tisch stellen und konnte so direkt am Anfang nicht weiter spielen. Auch mit Maus und Tastatur war es umständlich, auch weil sich ständig die Sicht maximal ungünstig verschoben hat.
Die Story war okay, aber durch die Probleme mit der Steuerung konnte ich nicht darin versinken.
Sehr schade, weil mir Detroit become Human so sehr gefallen hat, dass ich mir Heavy Rain überhaupt gekauft habe.

Großartige und spannende Geschichte, aber leider mit Logikfehlern. Ich kann jetzt auch nichts weiter schreiben ohne zu spoilern, daher lasse ich es, denn das Spiel ist wirklich gut. Was mich wirklich am Spiel stört ist die Umsetzung für PC bzw. halt die Steuerung. Die Steuerung ist einfach eine absolute Katastrophe. Man merkt den Spiel halt wirklich leider immer an, das es von der Playstation kommt. Als hätte man einen Krampf in der Hand. Seltsame Mausbewegungen, mit wilder Fingerakrobatik vier Tasten gleichzeitig drücken, hektisches Knöpfe drücken........ Sucht euch einen Steuerungsalbtraum aus, Heavy Rain bietet sie fast alle. Selbst Fahrenheit ist dagegen gut spielbar. Dieses eine Schloss zu knacken am Schluss, hätte mich wirklich fast gebrochen. Wenn ihr die Möglichkeit habt, dann spielt es auf der Playstation oder vielleicht mit Gamepad hier. Ich gebe keinen Daumen runter, weil das Spiel schlecht ist, sondern die Umsetzung. Es tut mir in der Seele weh, jedoch kann ich es nicht mit guten Gewissen empfehlen, dafür ist die Qualität der Steuerung einfach zu schlecht.

Eine Hollywood-tauglicher interaktiver Film, 2010 für die PS3 entwickelt, 2019 für PC veröffentlicht. Überwog bei mir Regen oder Sonnenschein, und warum?

Geschichte

Ein Serientäter entführt Kinder, die nach Tagen ertrunken aufgefunden werden. Ein betroffener Vater, ein FBI-Agent und ein Privatdetektiv wollen, zusammen mit anderen Akteuren, die wir allesamt abwechselnd steuern, das Rätsel lösen und das momentan entführte Kind retten.

Die Geschehnisse werden szenenweise erzählt und diese Parallelität der Ereignisse ist gut gemacht. Wie im Film eben.

Ein besonderer Fokus liegt auf dem Vater, weil er vom Entführer in ein perfides Spiel gezwungen wird: wie weit würdest du gehen, um dein Kind zu retten? Solche Szenarien, wo ein Bösewicht normale Menschen zu ungeheuerlichen Taten zwingt sind beliebt, gerade in Filmen, aber bei mir stößt dies schnell an eine empfindliche Grenze. Ich mag solche Szenarien nicht.

Die Geschichte bietet aber auch noch andere Handlungsstränge und vieles davon kann der Spieler beeinflussen, nicht nur oberflächlich sondern recht erheblich.

Die Geschichte bleibt bis zuletzt spannend wie ein guter Hollywoodfilm, mit viel Action und Logiklöchern, Liebe und Täuschung, Spannung und Unsinn. Ich war nicht gänzlich begeistert, fand es aber schon ziemlich gut.

Seltsam war für mich u.a., beabsichtigt oder nicht, ein scheinbarer Anachronismus. In welcher Zeit spielt sich das ab? Die Umgebung wirkt wie aus den 1950ern und doch gibt es Handys? Und dann die VR-Brille des FBI-Agenten, die in die Zukunft verweist? Interessante Mischung.

Gameplay

Das Spiel ist eine Mischung aus interaktiver Film und Adventure. So können wir oft ein Zimmer frei untersuchen, dies oder das tun oder lassen. In actionbetonten Sequenzen wird die Interaktion zwingender. Manches kann man nicht auslassen, bei anderen kann man (freiwillig oder unabsichtlich) scheitern. Diese oft langen QTE's (Quick Time Events) entscheiden oft über einen Ermittlungserfolg und können andererseits auch mit dem Tod des Protagonisten enden.

Diese Radikalität im Gameplay ist bei Spielen durchaus selten. Es gibt somit ziemlich deutlich unterschiedliche Wege, die die Geschichte einschlagen kann. Hier hat man sich ziemlich Mühe gegeben.

Diese QTE's sind nicht ganz einfach, es bleibt nicht so viel Zeit zum reagieren. Um erfolgreich zu sein, muss man aber auch nicht jeden Tastendruck treffen. Das ist ein interessanter Mechanismus.

Anderen Gameplayelemente sind das Untersuchen von Tatorten durch den FBI-Agenten oder Haushaltsarbeiten. Beim FBI kommt SciFi-Technik zum Einsatz was vielleicht cool wirkt aber bei mir irgendwie nicht so recht zünden mochte.

Das Spiel speichert automatisch an gewissen Punkten. Es gibt scheinbar nur einen Spielstand (obwohl beim Laden mehrere Slots angezeigt werden). Dies ist etwas mühselig, wenn man das Spiel mehrmals durchspielen will, um verschiedene Handlungswege auszuprobieren. Ein Abkürzung beim wiederholten Durchspielen scheint es nicht zu geben.

Technik

Die Grafik der auf der PS4-Version aus dem Jahr 2015 basierenden PC-Version ist doch eher schlicht. Besonders die Außenansichten sind detailarm und generell scheint alles irgendwie matschig, auch wenn es nicht regnet. Nur die Einführung erschien mir grafisch irgendwie höherwertig (vielleicht, weil es schön sonnig ist?).

Auch die Charaktere sind nur in den Ladebildschirmen unglaublich detailliert. Sonst sind sie eher einfach. Viele Charaktere sind nach echten Schauspielern gebildet (man kann es in den Bonussequenzen und im Abspann sehen / lesen). Das fiel mir besonders bei den Animationen auf, die mit Motion Capture erzeugt wurden. Die Bewegungen der Hauptcharaktere sind klasse gemacht.

Der Sound ist sehr gut. Die Dialoge, auf Deutsch (oder Englisch wenn man mag) sind es ebenso, wie die aufwendig eigens aufgenommene Musik. Welch Aufwand man da betrieb, kann man auch im Bonusmaterial erkennen.

Die Steuerung am PC ist das, was viele Spieler stark verärgert, zu Recht, wie ich finde. Sie ist eindeutig für einen Controller/Gamepad geschrieben und doch funktioniert zumindest der Xbox-360-Controller bei mir nicht richtig. Die für einen Analogstick gedachten Bewegungen bei den Aktionssymbolen mit der Maus nachzumachen ist schräg aber machbar.

Auch die Bewegung der Figuren mit WASD fühlt sich schrecklich an. Besonders wenn ein Kamerawechsel stattfindet läuft man gerne in die falsche Richtung und eiert ewig hin und her. Auch an Interaktionspunkten läuft die Figur gerne vorbei und auch das kann mühsam werden.

Also, die Steuerung ist kein Glanzpunkt und doch, letztlich ist es machbar, wenn man nicht dem Controller nachweint.

Sonstiges

Ein Durchgang hat bei mir etwa 8,5h gedauert. Ein erneutes Durchspielen ist allerdings schon sehr verlockend, um die verschiedenen Handlungsstränge zu erleben.

Es gibt sehr viele Errungenschaften, die teils eben auf die verschiedenen Handlungsstränge abzielen, teils für das Erfüllen oder Nichterfüllen von QTE's oder bspw. Haushaltsaufgaben vergeben werden. Will man alle Errungenschaften, so ist man ziemlich beschäftigt.

Code In Zahlen für mich persönlich ein Unterhaltungswert von 8/10.

Ein aufwendiges Adventure in Form eines interaktiven Filmes mit vielen Handlungssträngen. Nur die Grafik (nicht die Animation) und Steuerung ist weniger gut.

Dies ist mein subjektiver Spieleindruck. Für meine Wertung zählt, wie gut es mich unterhalten hat. Entsprechend der Daumen nach oben oder unten, abhängig davon, ob ich es einem ähnlich gesinnten Spieler weiterempfehle. Der Spieleindruck eines anderen Spielers kann aber durchaus stark davon abweichen.

Eine vielleicht noch positivere Sicht auf das Spiel findet man beispielsweise hier.

Es ist ein sehr schönes..spannendes..wenn auch manchmal leicht verwirrendes Spiel..aber es macht auf jeden Fall Spaß herauzufinden..wer der Mörder nun ist..vorallem weil man selbst anfängt zu glauben..dass es die ein oder andere Person ist und niemals auf die wirkliche kommt..auch das man selbst entscheidet wie die Geschichte verläuft finde ich sehr gut..wer auf solche Games steht..sollte auf jeden Fall dieses Spiel besitzen

Man sagt ja, der Mörder ist immer der Gärtner, aber hier ist er anscheinend ein Mensch mit Hang zu Papier und Bastelarbeit. Die Geschichte ist gut geschrieben und von Anfang an wird man vor ein Rätsel gestellt, welches bis zum Ende vielleicht nur vom Besten der Besten Rätselknacker gelöst werden wird.
Wir bei allen diesen Spielen, welche mehr eine Geschichte, mit etwas Einfluss durch den Spieler, sind, sollte man jedem Hinweis folgen und Charakterübergreifend denken, um bis zum Ende die besten Möglichkeiten auszuknobeln :). Viel Freude

Der Anfang (Einleitung) mit der Familie ist super zäh und langweilig. Die Steuerung erscheint am Anfang fummelig, aber man gewöhnt sich dran. Sie ist: ok mit Controller. Die QTE´s sind an manchen Stellen ultra nervig...
Ansonsten ist das Game, nach der Einleitung, spannend vom Anfang bis zum Ende.

Heavy Rain ist ein Action geladenes Storygame, welches schon fast ein Interaktiver Film ist. Das Spiel kam bereits 2010 für die PlayStation 3 raus. Das sieht man der Grafik auch an. Sie ist zwar nicht unbedingt hässlich, wirkt aber etwas angestaubt. Obwohl die Grafik 2016 für die PS4 Version des Games verbessert wurde.

Der Soundtrack ist klasse und passt wie die Faust aufs Auge. Ich hätte ihn nicht besser machen können. Die deutsche Synchronisation ist ganz ok, kann aber mit der Englischen nicht so gut mithalten.

Die Steuerung mit dem xbox360 Controller funktioniert meistens gut, ist aber anfangs etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig. Es gibt viele Quick-Time-Events und da muss man die ganzen Knöpfe auswendig können, sonst hat man keinen Erfolg. Manchmal weiß man nicht so recht, wie man die Knöpfe drücken muss.

Die Story wird aus der Sicht von vier spielbaren Charakteren erzählt. Sie ist sehr spannend und wendungsreich. Der Verlauf hängt auch von unseren Entscheidungen ab. Und man muss teilweise echt krasse, heftige Entscheidungen treffen. Unsere Charaktere können auch sterben. Deswegen gibt es verschiedene Enden, was einen großen Wiederspielwert bietet.

Technisch lief das Game bei mir ohne Probleme und ohne Bugs. Hat man das Spiel durch, kann man auf Bonus Inhalte zugreifen und es gibt auch Errungenschaften. Preis/Leistung ist ok, würde aber auf Grund des Alters, eher im Sale kaufen.

2010 war Heavy Rain für viele ein großes Meisterwerk. Heute ist es für mich immer noch ein kleines Meisterwerk. Es ist trotz der Grafik gut gealtert und immer noch empfehlenswert. Danke, dass man es hier nochmal erwerben und genießen kann!

Fazit
Für 10€ (im Sale erworben) erhält man ein tolles Game, spannend wie ein guter Krimi-Roman, jedoch trifft man hier schwere moralische Entscheidungen welche Einfluss auf die Story haben selbst.

Klasse inszeniertes Storygame aus der Sicht von mehreren Charakteren. Das Gameplay scheint ein bisschen erzwungen und man muss gefühlt jeden Handgriff selbst machen, aber störend oder langweilig war das aus meiner Sicht in sehr wenigen Fällen.

An older yet very good and thrilling story with great cast, even though motion capture looks kind of badly aged in comparison to today's mo cap.

I have played just one of multiple possible ends which may also because the controls of the PS3 -> PC port suffers from several very annoying bugs and sluggish input in bullet time cutscenes. Seriously, I had to replay multiple chapters because the bad mouse actions hindered me from playing with the story I chose and I ended up with the story the bad controls gave me. Camera angle is annoying from time to time as well.

I suggest you play this game in easy difficulty to prevent you from flipping tables as the game doesn't take your mouse gestures. Or you play using a controler. However, if you like a great criminalistic story and well thought out characters, you should go for it! It's more of a interactive movie anyway, so you should try to ignore the controls as good as you can.

PS: Some scenes might not be for the faint hearted!

Für eine Portierung eines 10 Jahre alten Playstation Spiels ist die Grafik bezüglich der Charaktere relativ gut. Die Story ist spannend uns sehr emotional. Man kann 4 verschiedene Charaktere spielen. Negativ sind die sehr langen Ladezeiten trotz SSD und Ruckler/Hänger in den Zwischensequenzen, sowie die Portierung der Steurung.

Great game and a great story! Sadly i cant recommend it for steam deck, the controller shaking just doesn't work. So if you are thinking of getting this for SD i would advice you to wait until they patch it or SD gets and option to configure motion controls.

The game has a good idea for a plot & setting and also imposing atmosphere, decent OST and the majority of the voice acting is good. Choices you make have an effect on the multiple possible endings the game has. It has issues on the QTEs, most are garbage and unnecessary long or annoying and the camera controls are terrible. There were a couple things that progressed fast in terms of relations between a few characters and some scenes weren't connected well together. Overall it was decent, but nowhere close to the masterpiece that Detroit Become Human was and i think Beyond Two Souls was better than Heavy Rain as well. First playthrough was fairly short, about 10ish hours, so give it a try if you want a break from more time consuming games.

Heavy Rain is a great story based game which feels like a movie. I loved the characters and the story was amazing even though it's a bit short. My only complain is the gameplay. It feels very clunky all around but the story patches it up.

8/10 I recommend it.

I mean at first i kinda hated it because of weird controls and low frame rate and i request a refund but wow im happy they didnt accept the refund what a game! i love all the plot twists and weird shit happening at the same time i love all of the QTE moments and i love the story and how diffrent it can be by the choices you make . solid 9.5 out of 10 , it is a masterpiece in my mind ,at first it may be boring and some chapters make no sense at first but belive me you gotta try this.. damn im in love with this.

This game serves as my daily reminder that David Cage is one horny dude.

Love the game though and so glad I finally get to play it! If you have a weaker computer/laptop, it might lag and stutter, but overall plays pretty well. If you're able to run Beyond Two Souls on steam, then you'll have no problem with this one.

???? Pretty decent story with a twist and with multiple endings. Starts slow but it was interesting to see how the perspective of 4 characters converging later on

Having just recently re-played this on PC since beating it back on the PS3, I can say that I had a pretty fun time with Heavy Rain. The story is VERY cheesy in an often laugh-out-loud funny way, but it has it's tense moments. The fact that almost every character can die at a certain point without derailing the over-arching plot too much is still a fantastic gameplay element that I've rarely seen recreated as successfully as it was done in this game. It also adds a good bit of weight and anxiety to the all-quick-time-event gameplay as a single mistake could potentially lead to a character's death. Graphically, playing this game above 4k on PC really made me appreciate how much work was put into the visuals - it still looks pretty great despite it's age. Over-all I'd say this is a definite cut above most choose-your-own-adventure type games (looking at you Tell-Tale). It's short and sweet and never over stays it's welcome. I'd give it 7 JASOOOOOOONS out of 10.

detective story with grim sometimes noir atmosphere about serial killer. constant rain just adds to that. story itself and how it is unfolding is simply amazing, lots of twists. QTE action scenes are top of the genre, super engaging especially the one in surgeon's basement (sweaty palms!). graphics is adequate for 2010, not that good but not bad either. i liked little hi-tech action from FBI agent.

pros
1. very well written story with deep characters
2. very engaging QTE action scenes

cons.
1. controller R-stick circle and half-circle movements especially in the beginning during mundane stuff (shaking juice, using towel). game just does not receive the input and action would reset to the beginning of it which is super annoying. i only could solve it by using mouse in those situations, but during action scenes that became a small problem because switch between mouse and controller not instant (need extra click which resets the action). thank god usually action scenes are kind of forgiving on input, so mostly was no problem.
2. very minor one. lots of mundane stuff to participate. in lots of scenes it is boring. the only scene it was amazing - Madison's apartment event. just subjective, not really too bad in general.

overall, great game, highly recommended. whole story overshadows small technical problems with R-stick movements (they get better later in the game). so far it is the best David Cage game i played, and best QTE interactive drama. i played a bit of Fahrenheit (20% maybe) and still need to play Detroit: Become Human.

This game really presented itself with a captivating story and for me it was quite unpredictable. The game is great, but the controls and optimization are just bad plus the eternity taking loading times, Apart from that if you look a really great story experience its great otherwise you might get frustrated.

Heavy Rain competently unfolds the story of the Origami Killer and integrates some genuinely surprising twists. The four playable characters all have compelling and complex storylines too.

The game does have some flaws though, notably its tedious gameplay mechanics and distracting voice acting.

However, if you enjoy intriguing, dark crime stories, these shortcomings should not prevent you from picking up Heavy Rain and drowning in its despair for yourself.

I can't set up the plates.

I literally can't get past the part where you set up the plates.

There is a part in the game (in the first 10 minutes) where you have to set up the plates. You move the right analog stick based on the instructions of the prompt. It doesn't work. Also the naming for the difficulties is really stupid. Very excited to play the other two games by the atheist icon game designer David Cage!

Great story game which manages to squeeze in all the lore cliches:

-After losing a child, father becomes a broken man, separates from wife to life a downtrodden life in the slums, and suffers psychotic breaks.

-An out of shape overweight (plus size) former cop, who is now a Private Eye, with health issues (asthma).

-A young urban professional white FBI guy with an addiction problem

-Big muscular black man, ex-con who hates cops, and has a few skeletons in his closet. (Not to mention he's got no issues killing cops)

-A goatteed gruff detective who isn't afraid to cross the line, and does NOT play by the rules, and doesn't care about the truth.

-A crazy old former doctor who lost his medical license but still likes to perform sick experiments

-Sleazy latino with a thick accent, who owns a night club

-Hot young journalist who isn't afraid to use her looks to her advantage, who has problems of her own

-Elderly mother in hospital suffering from alzheimers, can't remember she had two kids not just one.

The graphics in this game are pretty great. The music is emotionally engaging, and conveys a sense of urgency during the QTEs. The story is well written with the exception of a few plot holes.

Characters are all believable and endearing, albeit, cliche (as previously mentioned). Not too crazy about the convoluted controls (a game that was ported over from / or designed for consoles, doesn't have a great control scheme - what a surprise!), and I'm not a big fan of QTEs, but they weren't TOO horrible.

There were even a few scenes that almost made me tear up.

I can say that it has the best scenario among Detroit: Become Human and Beyond: Two Souls games.

From the beginning to the end of the game, you feel that the people in the plot are connected to each other every time, down to the smallest detail, and there is such a finale that you are shocked. On the other hand, you must make your choices so carefully that the end of the game will be shaped accordingly.

Quantic Dream has created a masterpiece, it deserves a 10 out of 10 points both for its atmosphere and its story line.

The Ending can be made by 16 Unique Puzzle Pieces, very sad Ending or a very good Happy Ending.

+++ 100 % Steam Achievements (even some 0 Mistakes Challenges are not so easy for older Players like me or repetive for getting all Ending

If you use Xbox One controller, you must fix the setting before playing the game.

- Lunch the game
- Then press Shift + Tab to open Steam HUD
- Click on Controller Settings (on the top right of your screen)

Played it two years ago on the PS3 with professional cathode ray tube monitor and man it was fun. Now on PC with an OLED. Man it is immersive. Great graphics. Good character models and detail. I love the story.

As someone who enjoyed Beyond two souls and Detroit I decided to give this game a try and was highly disappointed. Game itself could be fine even though the story seems really weird however it's absolutely unplayable on PC. I wish I believed the reviews before buying this. If you have a keyboard or you use Xbox controller - DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. I tried to fix it myself, read bunch of guides, tried to setup custom controls but it just keeps breaking in the end. You will end up being stuck on the same QTE for 10-15 minutes due to it being so inconsistent.
Avoid bad experience, don't buy it on PC.

Final Verdict: Buy! This is a Classic. (Spoiler-Free Review)

If you love narrative-driven games, then this is a must buy. Sure the controls aren't great, but I was able to manage on the normal difficulty for QTEs (you can even go full casual if you want an easier experience). What separates this experience from many others, even after all the years since the original release in 2010, is the character-building, motion animation, and the gritty dialogue.

I was not able to correctly deduce the killer & a fun fact is that a poll of 70 found that nobody was able to correctly identify the killer before the reveal (see Wiki). However, if you paid attention, there were clues along the way. I think that's a credit to the writing & directing by David Cage, but also the voice actor who did a wonderful job of coming off as beyond reproach. This is just not a mystery thriller about a serial killer, but also a multi-plotted story where the lives of several characters intersect. Each character feels genuine and has depth to them. The characters give gravitas to the plot, so your game actions feel impactful. You're invested in the story.

Plus there's just high production values all around. I am surprised there are some negative reviews regarding how long the game is. It took me a little over 9 hours to complete the game (I also viewed all the extras). For the normal price of $19.99 USD there is great value here (it's a no-brainer at the sale price of $9.99 USD). The actors here all did a great job, not just with voice, but with the motion capture. Yes, I do agree that some of the accents weren't quite right, but not every production can happen in the USA.

The musical score is also one of the best I have ever heard in gaming. Such a memorable orchestral score that really crescendos at all the right times and mellows also when called for. The varied locations really bring Philadelphia to life and the grittiness of the city matches the grittiness of the plot.

Lastly, I almost hate to mention this, but one character in particular just stands out, Madison Paige. My god what a knockout and the two actresses who did her did an amazing job. The attention to detail is just something else. You can just see her walking and tell it is her. It is damn sexy and that isn't even the half of it.

Rate 9/10. This is a masterpiece. A must play for narrative-driven game fans.

The game simply does not live up to its original hype. While the story is interesting and capturing, the game is as expected, a half-assed console port, with outdated graphics and one of the worst controls I have ever experienced. The pacing can also be terribly slow sometimes.

I have played a couple of Quantic Dream's other games and very much enjoyed those. Their graphics quality has definitely gone up since Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy Remastered, but the story is definitely lacking compared to both Fahrenheit and Beyond Two Souls (their other games that I have played so far).

Don't get me wrong - I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game about 80% of the time. The story was enthralling and intense, the music behind each scene was perfect and really deepened the tension when it was supposed to. Having spent half my life as a musician, I really pay attention to the score of a game or movie and it's great when it all flows together. The graphics, again, great quality. It has been so cool to me since I played Beyond Two Souls that the game characters can be made to look so life-like and using real people to base them off of. The bonus features that showed how they did this were very interesting to watch.

The main problem I had with Heavy Rain was in the premise behind the story, when we get to the actual killer. Without giving spoilers, I just want to accentuate the fact that the answer to the mystery just makes no sense whatsoever. Even without being a big Crime TV/Game/Documentary fan like I am, one can see the lack of logic and reasoning going into their ending of this story. It seems they just wanted to play out a huge twist without resolving a large amount of plot holes or explaining important events that were witnessed during the gameplay. This game could have been filed under Masterpiece if they hadn't done such a poor job with the ending plot.

On top of that, I did have lots of issues with controls at times - getting the character to go where I wanted. But I personally have some medical issues with my hands/fingers and could probably attribute some of this to those issues. Controls just seemed a bit clunky at certain times, specifically when thePOV changes while you are walking with a character, meaning you now have to switch the button for the direction you are trying to go if a turn comes.

TL:DR As a whole game, it isn't bad at all and the experience was great. So, unless you have a problem with plot holes and an illogical/unreasonable ending, I definitely would recommend this game.

Amazing Story.

Definitly worth the money only complain i have is that the Quicktime events are a bit excessive. Basically a quick time event for everything.
Mouse and Keyboard Controls are very odd and so is the Camera but you will get used to it eventually.

I have refunded 4 games since ever. This was one of them. I was so excited to have it available on PC i didnt look up anything other than... man im so excited. Turns out, the games ports poorly.. really poorly. Just a lag fest once you get to the mall, it is awful. I very much wanted this game instead i had it refunded. Too bad.

The Story

Young boys have been getting kidnapped and killed through the use of rainwater, by someone named the Origami Killer. The latest victim, Shaun Mars, has been taken, and you must play play as four different characters in order to discover where Shaun is, and who is the Origami Killer.

Pros

- The story is pretty well written and will leave you satisfied based on your ending.
- Your choices through the game WILL have consequences.
- Voice acting is very solid.
- No bugs were found during my playthrough

Cons

- The one complaint that I have is the QTE controls. The game will instruct you to wiggle your right stick back and forth, or left and right. This would be difficult as the game would not recognize the movements sometimes, at least from my experiences through the game.

Overall

The game was very enjoying from start to finish. The story was very captivating, and it actually felt like my choices mattered to the ending of the story. This game made the framework for other games that I would consider to surpass it, such as Until Dawn.

An interesting story bundled with an interesting quick-time control scheme. Heavy Rain is sure to scratch that itch for a murder-mystery story.

Cons:

1) Controls with the mouse and keyboard are not good. This game was built with the PlayStation controller in mind (motion controls and whatnot) and it shows.

2) There are a couple of plot-holes in the story that do make you scratch your head once everything is done and the credits are rolling.

This game has a lot of problems, its controls are pretty clunky and complicated regardless of whether you're using controller or mouse and keyboard. The story expects you to take at face value a lot of what happens and not look much deeper or else you'l realise a lot of it doesn't make that much sense. You don't learn an awful lot about the characters and the voice acting is some of the most unenthusiastic I've ever heard, rarely ever matching the tone you would expect from the situation. I probably should have returned this game but I love this genre so I honestly hoped it would get better but alas it did not.

It was a really emotional experience. I enjoyed it a lot, the story and characters are really nicely done.

This game is a complete mess. Ridiculous, cliche filled, nonsensical story, riddled with plot holes. Extremely bad voice acting, that drifts between laughable and terrible. One dimensional, undeveloped characters. Horrible gameplay - clunky controls on keyboard and mouse and terrible, terrible camera. I am not sure which is worse - the pathetic story parts, or the laughable action parts. And to finish it all - unskippable end credits. Really? After pushing through this junk I can't end it when I want to, but am forced to sit through a list of people who seem to be proud for making this pathetic mess?
I bought this on sale, 50% I think, but it is still 100% more than this junk is worth. Not recommended at all.

I absolutely love this game, but the audio stuttering ruins the experience. Please Quantic Dream fix this, the game has been out for a while now and the issue is still here. The music is one of the best parts of the game, but when it begins to stutter I can't enjoy playing the game. I don't mean to be harsh, I figured that if I posted a negative review that some of the developers might be more likely to read my comment.

The controls make the game literally impossible to play for me, i have the official xbox360 controller and never had any problem with any game in my entire life, i also played Detroit Become Human and the game runs very smoothly and the QTE events worked very well. Only with heavy rain i can't make the simplest of movements because the game seems unable to register them. Every time i solved one problem (like a simpe rotation) with a certain movement, another one shows up in the next chapter (take an object very slowly). I'm not angry, i'm just disappointed that i can't enjoy one of the best story in the gaming history because the controls suck so hard. I've contacted the technical support and they weren't able to help as well, after 2 weeks i've decided to give up.

I played Heavy Rain back when it first came out on the PS3. I had a lot of fond memories of it back then, so I wanted to see if they held up a decade later. I went through the story again, and now I can safely say it was worth my time re-experiencing it; even despite some rough edges here and there.
Edit: Also, I played using a Dualshock 4 controller. If you're like me, and were having issues with the right analog stick not working well, this guide solved that problem for me

I love this game and first played it on PS3 back in 2010. The PC port controllers will not work particularly the right axis stick on PS4 controller. No matter what settings I try to configure with, hard to control and non responsive. Keyboard and mouse aren't much better. Would recommend the game except not this PC port. Controller support is just not there

When this first released for PS3 years ago, I remember all of my friends raving about it. I can see why, for a PS3 game it was good. By today's standards, it still is a great overall story, but there is a reason why no one considers this one of the greatest video games of all time, like back when it was released. If you look too closely you'll see that there are so many plot holes that never get wrapped up. But that is ok, as this came out in an era where games like this just did not exist. At the time, a large part of this game had to have been a hardware demo for the PS3 (as it isn't as impressive when you put on ARI and change your surroundings). The overall story, if you can overlook the inconsistencies (why does David have blackouts, how did she get that number, what was up with the bs clock shop scene, to name a few) then this is a great game, definitely one everyone should play for expanding the medium of video games. Though, I probably wont play it again, I am glad I did.

Heavy Rain is an interesting psychological thriller, which focuses on the narration and history of all four playable characters. You won’t find any fast-paced action in here - gameplay is similar to the one known from Telltale games. You’re exploring new scenes, interacting with the environment, initiating dialogues, solving puzzles, and reacting to Quick Time Events, which are very common in this game.

What’s different in comparison to Telltale games is the fact that Heavy Rain is doing an amazing job in building the story, and in making it actually different according to your choices or failures. By failing at some point you can even make your characters die before reaching the end of the game. The story itself is very mature and at some point, quite surprising.

I’d say that Heavy Rain is closer to an interactive movie than a real video game. If you haven’t played a similar game before, it would be best to take a look at the first chapters on YouTube or somewhere else. This style of gameplay won’t suit everyone, but if you enjoy good thrillers or you want to experience a really well-written story, you can definitely give this game a shot.

Heavy Rain was originally released as exclusive for PS3, so it's better to play this game using a controller. It's possible to play with a mouse and keyboard, though, and it was how I played. In general, I didn’t have trouble playing, and the game was reacting really well to the mouse movement during QTE sequences. Only in a few cases, I was feeling like it’s not seeing the mouse movement properly.

Pros:

Really well-written story. If you won’t see any spoilers before playing, you’ll definitely enjoy it,
Multiple endings and real consequences of your choices/decisions,
Interesting setting that feels “real” - it could be your city as well,
Well-written characters - they have their own motives, and it’s easy to “like” them,
~10h of gameplay, which is just fine. If you’re interested in doing all the achievements, it will take ~20h,
Three different difficulty levels that affect the complexity and speed of QTE.

Cons:

Mouse controls could work better,
In many cases, future consequences depend on Quick Time Events, and not tough, moral decisions,
You can’t skip credits in a normal way, and if you’re interested in doing 100%, it’s pointless to see them for the 4th or 5th time.

Summary

If you like good thrillers, it’s a must-play for you. If you are a big Telltale fan, you'll enjoy this game as well. If you want to try something new, it might be a really good choice for a few calm evenings. If you’re looking for a fast-paced action game, you should pass, as HR is completely different.

+ just finished the game and, holy shit. im one of the few people that does like the storyline, for me it came as a surprise and the storyline overall was really well thought out. i think even if the story ended up sucking, i really liked the gameplay and influence of your choices anyway so i wouldve enjoyed it nonetheless. you really get sucked into it, hence why i finished it in a few days. and lets not forget the amount of dedication n effort that went into making this.
- controls suck every now and then, even if u press which way u want to go it can be quite a bit of a struggle at times and it kinda takes you out of the story realizing its just a game with its errors, also it lagged quite a shit ton at the begininng of some scenes which ive seen happening to more people (while i have a decent pc).

Ah, quantic dream. Maker of mediocre movies but somewhat interesting games.

Warning: controls suck. You don't always know what pressing the control prompt will do and more importantly KB + M is borderline broken for many sequences. I'd give the game a neutral horizontal thumb if i could.

FUCK YEAH! after playing Fahrenheit years ago and loved it i'm happy i finally get to play it's successor in a way. Story/plot is brilliant, acting is amazing so is the musical score and general atmosphere, i really felt the stress in some of the interactive scenes, the game really sucked me in! That said this game should be played with a controller, if you thought that the keyboard controls on Fahrenheit were outright masochistic, this is worse! Another thing that is not a big deal but i would love to have the option for especially when i replayed the game a bunch of times to see all the endings is the ability to skip cutscenes. All in all it's an excellent masterpiece of a game that i would recommend!

Haven't had a chance to play it on its initial release since I don't have a console and I am absolutely happy I've never watched a playthrough or had any spoilers for this game because it's a fucking masterpiece!
Heavy Rain is top-notch interactive drama, it has lovable characters, amazing story and overall thrilling experience.
It took Quantic Dream quite a while to release Heavy Rain on Steam but for me personally it was totally worth the wait and I enjoyed every second of it.

What good is a game, even a great game, if the controls designed for PC platform using the mouse are so darn complicated and unusual that you cannot enjoy any of it because you are constantly too busy trying to figure out what to press on the keyboard and what to do with the mouse and all the combinations required to get anything done! Such a frustrating experience.

I may not be a fan of quicktime but had a lot of fun with the story, seeing how events played out, even after making some questionable choices.
It felt a lot like watching a noir series on Netflix, except ur holding a controller and determine what your character does.
I managed to get a happy ending and I'm off to YouTube now to see what other endings the game has.

I've wanted to play Heavy Rain ever since the PS3 days and now that I finally did, I can definitely say that it was worth the wait. It is a psychological thriller with a dark and gritty atmosphere that really sets the tone for a twisted tale about the 'Origami Killer'. The graphics still do hold up pretty well and the music is excellent too. But the controls and the camera may feel clunky at times, and the voice acting is quite bad for the most part. I also did feel that there were a few plot holes and red herrings left behind at the end of the game, but they can be easily overlooked. A good experience overall, definitely recommended!

Another imperfect technical implementation on the engine/PC porting side, with some hitches noticed by myself. Otherwise, an excellent port of an amazing game, with seamless support for PS4 controllers built-in to the PC version, offering full rumble and gyro support. This even includes... drum roll please... support for the Steam Controller, which I honestly was just not expecting.

The game itself is the direct successor to Fahrenheit, but the story is, of course, completely unrelated. Expect more Se7en instead of Matrix. If you ask me, Heavy Rain has a better script and scenario, with a lot more mystery and realism. Instead of Fahrenheit's crazy dystopian Mayan apocalypsepunk story, Heavy Rain takes a completely different approach and manages to keep the intrigue and engagement going over a much wider scope of scriptwriting and emotional beats.

Fahrenheit's biggest pain point was the flawed mechanical design of the QTEs which ended up being too many, too annoying and too unpredictable - as a huge fan of Fahrenheit, I'm just pointing this out. In Heavy Rain these systems benefit from much better tuning at the micro level (more responsive and forgiving controls) as well as from a high level (a more nuanced difficulty curve, better pacing and better integration of the QTEs in the overall game structure).

So overall this gets a huge recommendation from me, if you're interested in this type of interactive drama/movie and choice-driven, character-centric game. In other words, if you've played and enjoyed a Telltale game, this might be for you.

Wirklich gutes Spiel! Einzig die Kameraführung fand ich teils etwas wirr.

Das Spiel lebt von einer großartigen Story (die ich offenbar richtig gefailed habe), aber eben auch von 100 Quicktime Events, die ich häufig auch gefailed habe, weil ich nicht so der Konsolenspieler bin).

Egal würde es wieder kaufen und sicher noch mal zocken, um einige Dinge besser zu machen und ein hoffentlich besseres Ende zu sehen.

Setting

The city itself is unnamed but it's based somewhere in Philadelphia. The year is 2011, in October. All of the game takes place in the city area, made up of different environments, typically at night time or in rainfall weather with few people around to create a sense of isolation and mystery.

World Design

The world layout is just like their other titles. Each area is carefully crafted with a lot of detail in it's design. It's a linear experience so not an open world. Smaller locations with not a lot of freedom of movement. As the game focuses heavily on the storytelling, choices and characters, it is a straightforward experience as you go from level to level. In each chapter you'll interact with various items, clues and people. Be it talking to characters, finding evidence or quick time events.

Gameplay

The gameplay of Heavy Rain is fairly limited. It's an interactive drama game. The game is separated into chapters, each one having you play one of the rotating cast of characters. They all play similarly, control using basic movement and input prompts. Each chapter typically tasks you with interacting with things in the environment, these can be people or objects. As you near an object an input prompt will appear indicating the correct movement to be performed. Typically mouse movement for most things but button presses for more intense scenes.

Music

The music in this game is phenomenal. Comprising many different instruments, my favourite being the piano instrumentals in the more emotional scenes. The soundtrack was composed by Norman Corbeil (who also done Quantic Dream's other titles such as Fahrenheit), winning Heavy Rain two awards for it's original music.

Characters / Acting

Heavy Rain uses real actors for both the voices of characters and their motion capture acting. All interactions and movements are done by real actors. Interestingly, many of the cast for this title hadn't done any major acting work before this, typically smaller roles. This may sound like a red flag to some but they really pulled through with Heavy Rain. The acting is incredibly well done, both in it's motion and voicing. The main protagonist is played by Pascal Langdale.

Story

Over the past few years someone called the Origami Killer has been abducting and killing young boys. The story takes place when the latest victim, Shaun Mars, has been kidnapped too. You play as a handful of different characters in this story. All of this tying together in this mystery as an FBI Agent, the cops and a journalist get closer to the truth, all while the father of the latest victim, Ethan Mars, undergoes challenging physical and mental trials, orchestrated by the Origami Killer, to save his son before time runs out.

Big issue playing on Linux, the faces and lips sync are way too buggy, there is also stuttering. The comands are also awefull, too bad.
This is a mixed review, i will finish the game as the story line is gripping though.

I had high hopes for this game and it may be totally awesome. However, the way Quantic Dream has implemented the controls for keyboard/mouse are the worst I have ever seen in a game. I spent 45 minutes trying to do basic tasks in the opening scene and for me, the effort of working with the control scheme far outweighs any benefit the game might offer. Simple tasks require 'hold a key down,' 'hit a different key quick,' 'hold mouse button down and move up VERY slowly', 'hold mouse button and move sideways and down', 'press mouse and select numbers', 'hold a key and both mouse buttons at the same time,' etc. The instructions for keys (which you will need) completely distract from anything that is going on in the story.

You may have better luck with a controller but those planning to play with keyboard/mouse may want to play the demo first (something I should have done!).

One of the best experiences I had on PS3! GOOD OLD MEMORIES...

It's a crime that there's a possibility that I wouldn't actually'd have a chance to play this grand piece of narrative and that's because of exclusivity. I just recommend if you still not played this game, don't snoop around to get spoiled. Starting it blind whats make my play-through very intense and enjoyable.

A bit of advice on technical issues. If somehow you're getting a lot of lag spike and audio stuttering while also have an NVIDIA card. I suggest using the 446.14 driver version which fixed mine and also some people on Steam Forum.

Or just try to exit & open the game every 3rd character switches to minimize the problem.

HEAVY RAIN, The game which has a super ultra mega hyper story. I was so impressed when i was first playing on ps3 but now i am talking about pc port and i have to say that THIS GAME IS BROKEN .Although my system is more than enough for this game's recommended systems,the game crashes out of nowhere.Like a joke but absolutely not. Briefly and clearly i can NOT play this game on pc. That's so RIDICULOUS...

The story is interesting, but the controls are absolutely horrible. It is possible for players to miss the choices they intended to make because of the clumsy way the game was implemented for PC. The mouse movements are awkward in fast sequence events and there is a high risk they will not be detected by the game. On top of that, the game freezes constantly. For all the issues the game experience, I would say it is overpriced, despite the good story. Unfortunately, I did not have the nerve to finish it.

While I enjoy the format, the writing is abysmal. The game actively lies and try to misdirect you while you play, just so you can be shocked at the big reveal. Leaves a very bitter taste after finishing it.

Heavy Rain it is a good and mature game.

Heavy Rain offers a real mature story, and puts you in some difficult situations that face them in our daily lives.
For a long time I wanted to play this game and now I have the opportunity I am very happy that I finally got on the PC.

10/10 Must Play (I recommend you buy it at a good discount)

Thanks again Quantic Dream for bringing this game to PC.

This is a very good game, but it is not without its flaws. First thing to know: it is mostly an interactive movie consisting of QTEs and making choices. You play a father looking for his missing son, a private detective, a journalist / good samaritan, and an FBI agent.

Secondly, this game is a console port and is actually an older game, so expect 10-year old graphics. Like other older games, it had trouble detecting my video card automatically and I had to manually select it (twice). This probably accounts for many of the performance complaints in other reviews, since this is a recurring problem mentioned on the forums. Remember to check that your video card is being used before giving up on the game!

The good:
- Engaging story, well-written and with good pacing
- Voice acting is excellent (mostly)
- Good graphics for its age, good audio and soundtrack
- Choices make a difference, and can even result in the death of main characters

The not so good:
- A bit of lag and stutter, sometimes at the worst times, such as life and death QTEs (although I never lost a QTE due to lag)
- Character movement is a bit janky and sluggish, which was annoying, and is made worse by changing camera angles that suddenly mean you are walking in the wrong direction; generally, the controls are not great in this game

Overall, this is a really strong game. My advice is to not think about it too deeply - if you look for holes, you are going to find them. This is a game where you should just go along for the ride and enjoy the thrill.

Finished first playthrough in around 9 hours, got to save shaun and all main characters alive.

This game is like interactive movie where your decision will affect the story, many cutscene and expect to do plenty of QTE. You may find a little animation glitch, other than that there is no issue in performance.

For best experience please do play in one sitting if possible.

An interesting story with good replayability. Personally I preferred Beyond Two Souls, but this has its moments. The script has its fair share of cliches, but it's no worse than regular movies or TV shows. Being a few years older, the motion capture is jankier than Quantic's later games, but it's still a good looking game. Happy to report no glitches, crashes or problems.

Just buy it. Amazing. Just finished first play through, time to do 16 more to get all the endings. Only warning is that the pc version sometimes crashes but this is fixed by lowering the graphics for that scene.

The first 30 -40 mins of the game are really slow and boring but once you get past that its not to bad, I really dislike the controls but u do get used to it after awhile, you gotta remember this is a 10 year old game when you go to buy it

made me cry at 13 & still making me cry at [almost] 23.
really a fun game, but then again i really love these story based games. a lot of feelings, amazing plot twist too!

only downside is, we can't skip the cut-scenes. i watched all the cut-scenes of course (since we can't skip them anyway) but when i went back to go and collect my remaining achievements for the game, the cut-scenes did kinda seem annoying since i wanted to finish it fast.

still, i recommend this game and i've been waiting forever till it came on PC!

Everything was so good story and characters. The story is so heavy,sad, beautiful my ending was really depressing.
The only thing I DIDN'T like about this game was the GAMEPLAY was really really bad but since it's 2010 game and come to pc after almost 10 years it's ok.

I like story driven narrative games and have enjoyed other such games like - To the Moon, Life is Strange, Florence, What Remains of Edith Finch etc. All these games have given me so many moments of interesting memorable stories and when I heard that finally Heavy Rain is coming to PC I was bit excited as I knew it had interesting plot and multiple endings depending on my choices. I never checked spoilers for this game as I wanted to experience it myself. Well, good thing is yes, I found plot interesting, my choices mattered in shaping the next scenario and overall character models looked good even after ten years. But my PC froze, game broke multiple times even after setting graphics to Medium & its a full gaming PC. Button prompts / QTE are so tedious and sometime outright weird that it broke the flow of the story in the scene. Even for task like pee and making omelette you have press the buttons. Most annoying is camera angle, its awful because some shown button press will not work until correct camera angle is set. Next is loading time, it takes ages to load next scenario. At one point, after a scenario is complete there is a loading screen which is followed by just a 15 sec clip which is then followed by another loading screen for the next scenario !!!! Opening act and some parts of the first half of this game are very tedious and boring, those button prompts for un-necessary chores doesn't help in it. I came for the story and in my play-through I got somewhat satisfying ending. But journey to that was very boring and half of it filled with curses due to pathetic camera angle and button prompts that won't even register sometime.

Overall: 2.5/5

Yes it has multiple endings and choices at crucial moments matter but gameplay is boring & frustrating. If still interested, then buy it only during sales. This is the only salvation point for me, I got this game/ QTE addictive sim during SALES.

If you've just finished playing the fantastic Detroit: Become Human and are thinking of trying these older games by Quantic Dream..... don't. You'll only be disappointed. These older games are clunky and unpolished, to the point that it feels like a chore to play them.

I am giving a negative review here mainly because of absolutely crap controls and how it affect the game. Gameplay mostly built with QTE (quick time events), so you need to press damn button or combination of buttons to make something happened, the biggest issue that if you just missed the time to press it or just press wrong button it will affect future game plot even if it was unintended from player side... Therefore, instead of concentrating on game and its plot I was waiting those damn buttons icons to appear and press it in a correct sequence instead of watching characters reactions and listening to dialogs...

Because of such gameplay mechanics, it felt more like interactive movie rather than an actual game.

On positive side, I liked game plot it is like good thriller movie with unexpected turns, there are couple of different ending depending on player decisions throughout the game.
Finally, I would rate this game 6/10

Let me start by saying that as far as story games go this is very very good. I am also very impressed with the graphics all set to max. For the year this was made it still holds up well and looks very impressive graphically. The story is very interesting and keeps me wanting to play to find out what is next. I was truly engaged throughout the entire game. I played with keyboard and mouse and did not have any problems although some people may feel better using a controller. I really enjoyed being able to play multiple characters throughout the story. The characters are very engaging and likable and the actors did a great job bringing these characters to life. I am glad I was able to experience this game because the story telling and the choices matter in this game are very impressive. I loved the characters and the story. I think this is certainly a must play if you are a lover of choices matter story games. I want to tell the developers they did a fantastic job on this and I am pleased I was able to experience this great game. I am not disappointed in any way that i played this. I highly recommend. 10/10.

If you want to sit down to one of the most gripping stories in gaming, then this is the game for you.

Heavy rain introduces an amazing cast of characters, my favorite being Norman Jayden, calm and determined FBI profiler who needs little snooters from time to time to keep his head straight. Then we have my least favorite character for being such a bore, grey and stale, Ethan Mars, but i guess that's a given when taking the circumstances into consideration. You will also be following the storylines of a private eye Scott Shelby and an insomniac, Madison Paige.

It's amazing to see how each of their personal storylines start to overlap with each other, you will be on the edge of your seat through the whole game, i played this game through in two six hour sessions, i just couldn't put it down, there is not a single boring moment in the development of the story, every chapter unravels something new and you just can't stop before you've seen it through.

Usually i'm not a big fan of quick time events, but here they are pulled off really well in the means of getting the player as stressed as the character you are playing is. I also enjoyed the whole control-scheme of the game in general.

Heavy rain hold ups extremely well, i didn't have any problems with the controls (Played on Xbox one controller), no glitches, no framerate problems, no crashes either.

Heavy rain offers incredible replay value with it's 17 different game endings.

Who is going to catch the Origami killer? Is anyone going to catch the Origami killer? Who will die and who will survive? Find out in this amazing interactive drama.
