Gloria Victis is not a farming simulator, its not a fishing simulator and you cant build your own house.
It is in the first line a pvp game - based on teamplay.
Yes, there are some pve quests, but for most oft them you need to be in a group.
If you want to play this game alone, you wont become happy.
I dont want to write more about gameplay here, because i personally play this game to have fun with the community and i like the medieval setting.
Join a bigger guild and you will get a lot of help, help with your starter quests, with gear, combat/fight training, crafting, …
Most of the guilds in GV are using DC, so dont be afraid of joining the voice channel for a better coordination in fights or just to have fun with your teammates.
And the most important thing, dont just run away in the middle of a fight and let your teammates behind.
We need people with a warrior-heart in this game.
Learn to fight.
Learn to die.
Learn to stand your ground.
And you will be able to break your own limits by playing this game.

That combined with the fact the game doesn't tell you crap about what's going on, random pop-ups for battles you have no idea about, where the objectives are or where your team mates are isnt really shown on the minimap unless you're on top of them. When you win/loss it's as clueless as anything as Is everyone's levels. Its just carnage by stronger players every match, either your side or the opponents side. It's literally never an interesting fight in the 5 hours I played.
I rarely get annoyed with games, but after recieving this from Humble bumble and being so disapointed with it. I'm really pissed I wasted that time on this so I thought I'd write this review to warn others.
I tried to repair my weapon and ended up destroying it..., no idea how to repair it ...

It seems to me, for people who are interested in a pvp medieval war simulator, this game would feel punishing by way of the constant need for player coordination, wear-and-tear on equipment, and meandering travel. All so you can cut down a few farmers in an abandoned outpost. Until then, while you're arduously working your way to that position of power, you occasionally get run over while you plod across the land watching percentages accumulate. It's hard for me to imagine who I would recommend this game for: it carries some of the worst aspects of a Farmville-style casual game and an under-populated multiplayer open world.
I could see myself loving this game if my wife and I had a plot of land to call our own and we slowly got to watch it develop, while we made our living making equipment in support of the war effort. Or if we spent our time in a Skyrim-style quest around the open world, finding dungeons and sidequests to explore. While the game is still in Early Access, it may yet become just such an experience. But knowing it's been there since 2016, I find it unlikely the experience will change dramatically.

PROS:
- Skill based action combat with a high skill ceiling. It takes getting used to but it's fun.
- Low fantasy/realism
- Very helpful community that is more active than you'd expect for a smaller MMO
- PVP focused
- The indie dev team is amazing. Not only do they update the game frequently, they're very responsive and truly care about the feedback they get from the players. If you're tired of throwing cash at a megacorp who doesn't care about your input and only wants to milk you for every cent *cough*activision blizzard*cough* then Gloria Victis has the dev team for you.
- buy to play, no subscription needed, with the in-game shop being *strictly cosmetic.* there is no aspect of pay to win. it's only there as a way to make your character look cooler and support the dev team. exactly how an mmo in game store should be.
CONS:
- This is an early access games and it can show that at times. Not all of the animations are fluid
- Server lag does happen
- depending on what time you are logged in, wait times for arena can be a bit long (5-15 minutes)
If you're on the fence about the game, I'd say just dive in. It's a fair price with a ton of value. It's the most fun I've had in an MMO in a while, but take into consideration that I am a big medieval nerd and a fan of HEMA (historical european martial arts). It really does feel like you're living in a medieval world when you're playing, though. And the focus on PVP is exactly why I play a game.
Support the devs, and try out the game!

I'm in to this game so far 1 year and would like to say that in generally game is cool. A lot of intense stuff, espacialy in pick hours and on state of wars. There is a lot of things you can do if preferring chill and relax game like gathering harvest, craft etc. Since i started i do play only one champ and it is tank and would like to say to the devs please can you cut of timing on shield bash as it was before because since you did that update its become really hard to play using shield, thanks in advance) So new players what you waiting for?! download it and be part of this awesome game!

For you that are interested in the game, let me tell you, this is a game you want to get. A mixture of PVP and PvE. Fight your way to glory as you level up EASILY with the quest line, earn armors, and challenge yourselves with their crafting system. Its realistic, its fun, its something to nerd out about, and I totally recommend.

Overall a 5/10
Does not stand out (imo) its a review and my opinion take it as you may, but if you dont join the major faction with the mega zergs expect to fight a never ending losing war, which is really fun if your a masochist.
Was it worth the 8 dollars? for me yes. for my friend who bought it aswell he said it would of been better spent on cigarettes.
Dont buy if not on sale , dont think this game will hold all its newer players.

I played it for about 50 hours, i thought it was fun but needed a lot of improvement, the netcode was laggy, the combat was choppy, I thought myself that I will return to the game later.
After an 3 year break, i decided to return, the game has improved somewhat, but the same issues persist, netcode is laggy, the mobs sometimes float as they move and even run backwards with the animation of them running forward.
Now after 188 hours playtime in 3 weeks after returning to the game, i have noticed that the combat is laggy, there is input lag.
You're greeted with people who cant handle critic of the game they have played for thousands of hours, I mentioned few problems I noticed in the game in hope of explanation and possible solution, then the next day I hear that people want to report me for toxicity over the critic i said. (obviously not all the old players are bad, but ive noticed a trend in the veterans that have mastered the game)
So I have been called a noob and a bad player multiple times for criticizing the issues I mentioned above.
You dont need 1000 in game hours to notice netcode lag, choppy combat and AI.

After that, it all falls apart. Some people one shot everyone. Others have no chance. I spent a long while trying to figure out the problem. Copied builds from the internet etc. Still dont know.
Lag is an issue. But for me, the graphics are jarring. It just looks super outdated.
The concept is great. This is a purely pvp oriented game. It reminds me a bit of conquerors blade with less pay to win and more focus on skill than equipment. Or so it claims. That was not my experience.
You have to join a guild (which is fine) and you need to know a lot about grinding and be okay with grinding too.
One big issue is that you will be one shotted and lose your equipment all the time as your killer can loot you. So people just leave. Because this creates the motivation for people that have been on it forever to just farm the new players. So they leave. So what you are left with is a some really powerful guilds and a bunch of fanatatics that really like it despite its flaws.
For me, it just stopped being playable around Lvl 70. Which was annoying as you put a lot of effort in to get there. Then realise that you are basically pointless. Even levelling up via PVE from there is an issue as so much in the games makes no sense at all. For example, you fight a lvl 70 enemy. One you can kill at 40. Another not. 35s can easily kill you, another will be trivial.
You are constantly out of stamina with many builds. You also can run around in circles getting health and stamina back and my god, is that boring.
I would be the first to admit that I am bad at this game. But it doesnt seem to want me either. It just sort of hit a wall where I couldnt really find anything fun to do. The grinding was already repetitive by this point so I just didnt care by then.
But the worst thing is that it just looks so ancient that it isn't even eye candy.
Love the concept. It is so close to merging open world, pvp and pve. Unfortunately, close but no cigar. Yet does it better than most.
If you are running a potato of a computer and need something which feels like a free to play mmo. Give it a shot. But for most people I know. It will annoy them that you just seem to hit a weird glass ceiling from which you cannot progress.
Oh, I should say, that one thing I think is absolutely brilliant, is that you can contribute to your kingdom in whatever way you chose. So perhaps you dont do pvp so much. Instead, you can pve to contribute etc. That is the stand out feature of this game by far. I thought that was really innovative.
But overall, it just felt old and unbalanced to me. So some brilliant ideas and a concept which could be awesome. Yet, it just doesnt quite get there. The looting other players would be something I normally agree with but the motivation to just farm others is too strong and motivates people to just leave. So I ended up with no one I know left pretty quick. However, if this company were to make a GV 2. I would probably give it a shot if they had refined the great ideas present in this and it didn't look so awfully dated.

Combat is fun and skill-based, but not particularly fast-paced. Even with moderately high ping, it's still enjoyable. Levels don't mean much. Gear can be meaningful, but a skilled veteran will beat you naked with a knife every time. I started to get the hang of it around twenty hours in, but I'm still nowhere near the guys that have been playing this for years. Luckily, most of the PvP is group-based, and even the freshest noob can stand in a gatehouse and hold up a shield.
As a RvR territory control game, Gloria Victis is a 5/5, but it's definitely missing some of the things you might expect from an MMO. There are about two hours of quests to do that get you to about level fifty out of a hundred. After that, you just join in the fray. The game relies heavily on users to generate content. The crafting system is good, but since everyone can learn every crafting skill, it feels a little meaningless. The devs are trying to make it more profitable, but right now it's just something to do if you enjoy crafting. What materials you have access to depends on what castles your nation controls, which adds another fun element to crafting.
Ganking/RPK within your own nation is pretty rare. Occasionally you'll run into enemies raiding your area while you're gathering or something, but it's not like Darkfall/MO/Albion where you have to constantly be on your toes. It's also partial loot, which in practice means that you'll usually lose a piece of armor and a couple of inventory items when you die. Your friends can also knock the enemies off of your body to keep you from getting looted, which is a cool mechanic. It makes you not want to die, especially in top tier gear, but it's not like you're going to lose hours of work.
For a loot PvP game, the community is extremely helpful and welcoming. A smaller force can beat a bigger force, but more numbers are better, so the players are incentivized to help and train new players and keep them playing. That said, PvP MMOs attract a certain type, and while this game is relatively good, it's no exception.
tl;dr It's a lot of fun and fairly well-polished for an early access game, but it's a sandbox. If you want to do much besides PvP and craft, this probably isn't the game for you.

The real problem is the combat system is clunky and shoddy. You could for example set your mouse sensitivity to a trillion and begin a slow smooth drag to the right and have your character still swing to the left when you click and release in mid drag. Couple that with over ambitious combat movement and under preforming hit box collisions in a sea of invisible walled model edges and you get a experience that rewards effort and skill with failure.
Feels bad, looks par for 2009.

They made all sorts of wonderful things such as but not limited to; siege equipment that is as exciting as watching paint dry, horses that stomped the open world pvp into the ground, combat changes that were disliked and no one asked for, light armor debuff, gay castle free build, stupid ass game AI, janky movements, silly pathetic and petty discord mod no one respects but have to pretend they do to avoid being banned, attempting terribly to force balance between nations, crappy servers, hypocrisy #freenomadski, literally having to quit the game to desktop to switch characters, and i could go on and on and on.
Bottom line is, you may enjoy it. Most players get turned off but it may be kinda fun if your into directional combat and pvp/pve. But its nowhere near as good at it was a year and half ago or more. The devs have taken it in a terrible direction. Most of my friends no longer play because the updates are boring or break the game further. I dont think the devs realize just how little the player base thinks of them. Seems like every update is met with groans and eyerolls. And yet, the devs are just so super smart and know whats best for the game population, at least in their small potato brains. The game is in desperate need of leadership that understands who this game appeals to and how to roll out content that holds players.

Even if I am not playing on a daily basis for at least 1 year (life you know) I still do on a monthly base and this game is part of the list I downloaded back to my new computer. Why? Simple: I come back to it.
GV carries a very well done rvr system with frontiers, guild castle and daily events. Actually, I tried lots of games that claim to be rvr based games. But on that front, Gloria Victis is the best I played for medieval theme. Not to say it's perfect, far from it, but it is very good.
The pvp action is well done and combat, while not perfect is good stuff. There can be true 2 hours push on territory sometimes (a little bit like planetside). The 3 faction thing isn't always balanced, but the game is made in a way where even a new player can make a difference.
Final word, try this game if you like rvr games. Try it too if you are in crafting, world building business too. 100% worth it! Also, the game is soon leaving early access.

This is a early access MMO developed with Unity, and it comes with all of the bugs and issues you would expect from that. That being said, I have never yet seen a team of developers more committed to releasing a quality title. Both for the fans that have support them over the (sometimes arduous) years of deveopment, and to the MMO community as a whole; which has been oversaturatred with lackluster releases, pay to win nightmares, and carbon copy cash grabs. This game is none of those things. Through regular updates and consistent communication with their players, the devs are creating an MMO experience that no other game can currently match.
It's a large, open world sandbox that does so many things right. Open world PvP with a focus on zone control and competitive events make for an engaging, and challenging experience whenever desired. These central hubs for player vs. player combat do wonders for enruring the world never seems empty of action. The are similar events centered around PvE combat if the real thing is too daunting for newer players. And to top it off, there is an incredibly immersive and extensive crafting system waiting for anyone who is up to the task. Be a soldier on the front lines. Be a wandering adventurer who goes where the battle and the winds take them. Be a master crafter for a guild of warriors, ensuring they always have weapons and armor ready for battle. And why is that necessary?
I'm so glad you asked.
This game features a partial loot system. Meaning when a player dies, for a short window of time enemy players have the opportunity to loot a few items off of his body/inventory. This system is implemented is a great way, and is honestly my favorite aspect of the game. It brings risk vs. reward to the table in a whole new way, and will be a major contributing factor to the heart pumping experience that this game's PvP delivers. You might loose that amazing sword you love using so much. But in the next battle, you might pick up an axe that delivers death even more swiftly to your foes. You'll never loose eveything, so getting back into the action immediately is never an issue.
TDLR: So if you fancy an unforgiving survival MMO, I highly recommend giving it a go, and seeing what the world of Gloria Vicitis can offer you. Happy slaughtering.

Unfortunately, it's only about combat and it's not perfect but it's pretty cool.
Perfect for chilling after work and play with friends but PVP can raise blood pressure a lot. Very nice battles in 1vs1 and in groups at arenas. Ongoing GVG in the open world - there are always fortresses to besiege and castles to defend. Lots of crafting and grinding, but luckily not as much as in the Black Desert. There is interesting crafting system based on recipes.
Collectors will also find something for themselves. They can cultivate fields and extract resources. The community is very helpful, but there are toxic players too.

To address some complaints from earlier in the game's development:
-Graphics are solid now, and being improved consistently with patches. Runs fine on my mid-level rig. Never crashed or frozen.
-Hitboxes have been calibrated well with recent patches
-Character development (skills, attributes, crafting professions, horse leveling) is very well done
-The castle management and smaller mines/farms management system is a blast and adds a really engaging dynamic to the game and guild experience. You can gather tons of different types of resources, but as your gathering skills improve also get better quality levels of each specific resource. That's a perfect example of the amazing depth and thoughtfulness that's gone into this game.
X. Another example is the armor system. Using specific types of armor impacts a wide range of factors including combat effectiveness, speed, stamina use and even damage multipliers.
-The community has been very supportive of newbies and super helpful.

Pros:
-Low fantasy game, a welcome change from spell slinging AoE spam that tends to be all too common in an MMO.
-Skill based combat:
Strikes are deliberate, button mashing will be your end.
Active defence via block & directional parrying.
-Territory control with combative / crafting incentive reward.
-Siege equipment: destroyable structures (walls, gates, etc...)
-Frequently updated from community feedback.
-In depth crafting system.
-Most items are player crafted (including top tier).
-Items do not last forever so there is always an active & competitive market.
Cons:
-Steep Learning Curve: start of game can be overwhelming, but with practice and a supportive guild you will become an asset.
-Low population during off peak hours; remedied via events both PvE and gather / craft.

GV is a true pvp game, where skill and proper planning beats all. If you die, its because you or your team screwed up.
The combat system is rock, paper, scissors, with directional blocking and attacking, and now includes chambering from the latest weekly patch. This system allows for all sorts of different play styles including Tanks, 2 handed bruisers, archers, cavalry, horse archers, and hybrids. You need to figure out your opponents play style, and adapt to overcome, and maybe call a few friends to come smash them in the back of the head with a hammer.
Since this game is an MMO, it is exactly what you make of it. There many quests and events and world bosses to keep you busy and geared up when there isn't a castle on fire.
The most fun i have during this game, is finding open world pvp to sate my lust for combat, as group fights are where this game really shines. Sometimes this means gathering the nation to try and storm a castle with siege engines, or just pretending to siege a castle so you can chase down and kill the guys trying to run inside to defend. If you dont have the numbers for a full on siege, you can try and bait out a few morsels by burning down a farm, or capturing a small flag and waiting for them to come back and retake it.
There is always plenty to do, if you are willing to get off your butt and go do it. I should also mention that this game is best played with a group of people. You will find a friendly community that is willing to help gear you out and train you up, no matter what faction you decide to play on.
This game is currently in its Alpha state, with only a few more features remaining. The developers are very active in the community, and listen very well to what the community has to say, and actively votes on what the players think needs to be changed/added/balanced. The devs put out a new content patch EVERY WEEK! This has been the case since steam launch years ago.
If any new players are worried about joining a game that has been out for a few years, I can tell you that it does not take long to become competitive. Any gear can be worn by any player of any level. And leveling to the max of 100 does not take very long either. There is also an arena system that allows for 1v1 or for group duels, and a few loot free tournaments and sieges to help you figure out the game risk free.
Keep in mind this is a work in progress. The major upside of that, is having a hand in creating the medieval combat game you have been waiting for!

- If you like mining/lumber simulator then this is your game
- Axing walls endlessly
- catapults attack.. trebuchets for defense only? Has anyone seen or read a history book?
- Hours and hours of farming for 5 minute fights
- Follow the drunk leader like a puppy dog without encouragement for independence.
- Be prepared to be scrutinized and interrogated by players unless you been playing for over 6 months

> A lackluster tutorial results in green players still being fresh in their experience however veteran players seem to only care about the need to win which is understandable and possibly necessary but at the same time this discourages those green players to continue playing.
> Assistance from other players is very rare; your friends are the best choice for help.
> To become better at the game is by a trial and error experience, especially if you're playing without a friend(s). Doing things for the first time or not well enough will surely result in certain people complaining.
- Community wellness keeps green players playing and more of them into the game. Gloria Victis fails to uphold to be able to enact a positive environment for new players to begin. These are just my opinions however based on the fewer hours I've played compared to other reviewers.

Edit:
All in all: good game idea, badly pitched until you have some friends to play with or a clan. Then it can be very fun. Still: imo they should do something to encourage players getting into the weaker factions - or limit the participants in sieges for stronger factions so you don't get overrun.

Have enjoyed my first few hours playing, some of the crafting is hard to get your head around and also how to join some of the events are not self explanatory.
The tutorials for combat could be bit more descriptive, especially when first start the game as they crowded the game UI and for first time player of the game was very confusing of what they were trying to demonstrate, but once got head around them the easily completed.
But over all as lone wolf have enjoyed, not sure what it will be like once join a guild, hopefully will become better and a more fine tuned and eventful MMORPG..

Graphics are not that good, melee combat is terrible, there is no impact and you just run thru NPCs. Hits doesn´t always register and the combat in general is just so bad.
I´ve had this game for a long time and i have seen no improvements to the core of the gameplay. To get cooking and fishing! wow!! amazing, but what about the combat? the fun parts of a game? No, there is no fun in this game to be had. Too bad.

* A dynamic combat system that is anything but tedious. As easy as rock-paper-scissors to grasp, yet challenging enough to make practice and technique rewarding, and mastery feels like an achievement of the player instead of a number on a character sheet.
* A deep crafting and harvesting system that gives purpose to exploration and investigation, rewards efficiency, and offers another style of play for folks who aren't even that interested or skillful in combat. The player-driven market provides a worthy capstone on this.
* Quality visuals for an MMO with intelligent processing that affords reasonable performance. Beyond the quality on the surface, the world has been crafted in such a way that makes for some truly beautiful views in the countryside, dismal and forbidding swamps, and gritty war-torn locales.
* A low-fantasy setting that adds an air of mystery, sparsely scattered throughout the world to punctuate the mundane and maintain an impactful appearance. Even getting some Witcher vibes here.
* Solid updates and a clear roadmap of where they're going and where they've *been,* what they've already accomplished. If you do some research, you will find cases of feedback provided by players becoming reality. Feedback is made easy by a small messaging tool in-game that players can use at any time.
* An accessible price-tag, allowing more new players to try out the game, yet options through the supporters' store still allows players to dictate how much they feel the game is worth beyond the base price.
* A supporters' store that provides cosmetic and quality of life benefits to players in exchange for funding further development. No pay walls. No DLCs to compensate for an incomplete game. No mechanical benefits that turn big time supporters into gods among players on a budget. No gimmicks.
* A diverse and quality soundtrack that appears to draw equal inspiration from the cultures the factions were built from.
* Very few bugs, and even those I've encountered have done nothing to inhibit gameplay.
* You can tame a horse, name it, level it up while you adventure from the saddle, and then spend its attribute points for a customized experience! Sometimes a good horse is a warrior's best friend.
* A heraldry system that allows you to design your very own heraldric from assorted shapes and symbols, which you can proudly display on your shield, or even a guild heraldric to be flaunted by your friends and allies, marking the banners of any locations your guild captures.
* And so much more.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a common complaint is a low player population. That, I will say, is a matter of perspective. Finding allies and enemies in other players is as easy as opening your map or chat box, or joining a guild by request or recruitment board. And should you decide you'd like to enjoy some solo play or small-scale adventures with a friend or two, there are regular events, villages to raid, beasts to hunt, and new resources or crafting recipes to discover. It's enough content to keep you busy. In the factions with the lowest player population, it also means more opportunities to shine in your faction. It means less competition for resources, and greater impact from individuals on the market. When you're not one of millions, but one of a hundred or even one of twenty, your actions carry more weight.
Stay focused on the positive, and you can find it in many situations.
If that all sounds good but you're still on the fence, there's nothing wrong with waiting on continued development. Just keep an eye out and don't forget the game is here! Cheers!

but its still fun. i would buy it on sale though.
ever played a mount and blade persistent world mod?
well this is just that just better with *basic* pve content and an active community that seems rather friendly.
performance wise its not that great honestly and the game tends to lag.
devs seem to be quite commited.
all in all i dont regret my purchase. lets hope the devs make something great out of this. it certainly has potential.

Pros:
-Its Medieval themed.
-Combat similar to games like Mount and Blade (I say similar because its a dumbed down clunkier version with sever desync issues)
-Indepth crafting system.
Cons:
- Very dated graphics
- Highly imbalanced teams
- PVE content is pretty lacking and outright boring (its a means to level so you can get into PvP. Don't expect anything interesting here.)
-bad castle designs. For instance, if the enemy smashes down your portcullis gate and rush in to hit your inner gate, there is no way to effectively attack.
The graphics and visuals are dated at best. The castles, towns, forts may look cool but then you see the god awful terrain. As for combat, its clunky and frankly not that interesting. Sieges are not the glorious thing that they show you in videos, they are usually fast paced gank fests with the nations being so imbalanced that one faction, the Midlanders, practically dominates the map. Is it that they are good? its really a nation of sub-par PvPers but have large numbers and the support of the developers. Midland has been given tons of advantages compared to the other fations.
IS IT RECOMMENDED?
No. Do yourself a favor and don't put your hard earned money into a lack luster game that is in the middle of a slow painful death. Just look at the game on steam charts. As of posting this review, its 24 hour peak was 400 people. Not sure how this game is staying afloat.

- It's sad to see what the free building patch has done to guild castles. What used to be amazing looking castles has been reduced to crap because all the players care about is to use glitches to make castles impossible to attack.
- The amount of hackers running around in this game using auto block and speed hack is just insane and it kills the experience. What's the point of going into battle and risk your gear when the opponent is likely hacking. It's ridiculous to see some people blocks dozens of attacks coming from multiple directions at the same time and surviving for way too long when completely surrounded. Make the battlefield fair for everybody.

Basically, if you want to be food for the dominant team, then go ahead and play. I was lured in by a 30% xp/gold bonus to play for the underdog team, which is a fancy way of paying you to be food for the winning team. There needs to be significant additional rewards added to really make people consider switching teams to balance the game. I'd suggest for certain, extra glory and contribution points and basically lots of other rewards at a MINIMUM for being on the losing team. I'd like to see more substantial bonuses such as extra pvp damage dealt and reduced damage taken for underrepresented teams.
Right now my player experience is going out and trying to level up and get crafting materials and getting run down by 6-8 enemy players right outside the capital gates. And then they loot my crafting materials, multiple times, while I pray for the respawn timer to let me release so they stop taking my stuff. I'm not quitting yet, but I probably will soon. This game needs help fast and I don't see it happening in time. And it's a shame because me and 5 of my friends joined but are quickly becoming disillusioned and quitting because the game is fun but so unbalanced.
They may need to go as far as penalize the dominating realms. Population caps? Login queues? Reduced rewards for kills and so forth? Basically there is no reason to play this game as the underdog, you just get farmed, and what's the point of that?
Original review below:
This game is a little janky, but it's basically a Dark Age of Camelot clone but it's low fantasy, no magic. It's got the DAoC 3 realm model with safe areas and also open world pvp, keep warfare, siege engines and so forth. While it is a bit buggy, it's also low population and allows for fun open world experiences without the insane zergs of some games. (Although there can be zergs too). Surprisingly decent!

So far this game is very fun and rewarding. It's still early access and therefore some of the UI and a few NPCs are not up to scratch. But overall the game is great and the community seems extremely friendly too.
I will update this as I got more experience.

After you reach max level
The events that pop at various times are the same old thing over and over and over. There is no real variation and the maps are pretty much the same. The Valley of Death is an example, its a fairly small map, the devs have recently tried to make it more interesting by changing the guide lines, but its still a capture the flag event, with the team that gets the most kills wins. There are other instance maps that could be used for/with VoD with only a slight change to those maps, some type of group combat in catacombs might be interesting
Recently horses were added to the game and that helped speed movement to other factions territories.
However I don't think that the implementation was well thought out as evidenced by changing the horse skills tree shortly after it came out. The only way to make your character an effective horseman is to weaken him in other areas. I think a better compromise would have been to give say 15 points that could only be used on the horse tree, and that would still have you use some of your character points to finish that tree.
Horses will eventually die and that's fine they deteriorate same as armor or weapons. What I do take issue with is that every horse in your stable ages at the same rate even if never used.
The game is really geared toward heavy fighters. If you enjoy playing an archer type class my advice is find another game or develop masochistic tendency's and play a light fighter here.
On the other hand...if your a carebear type this game could be perfect for you.
You can hunt, gather, farm, cook, make armor, or weapons to your hearts content. You can stay in the safe areas and either never fight or go out a bit and risk a little PvP, and if your character gets killed by an opposing faction they can't loot you in those areas.
Update it response to BartoldGV about becoming an efficient cavalryman.
It takes 40 character points to max out the horse skill tree. If you note I only suggested 15 points, The remaining 25 would still have to come from the characters point pool. You may think that 15 is too high, but I'm looking at it from a character balance stand point. Remember those points could only be used in the horse tree.

The combat is very janky and with an established meta. Similar to chivalry, there is lots of spinning, deadangles, and other exploits meant to confuse your opponents. This abuse of the combat system results in confusing unfun fights that force you to either set your sensitivity just as high or die. The game has improved though patches, but the boat is long gone for new players. Do not buy

I have a lot of hours in this game, and the only thing that really made it fun were the friends I made.
Every patch the devs ignore suggestions with an overwhelmingly positive reaction that the player base wants, and instead adds stuff that leaves us baffled and wondering who even suggested it.
This most recent patch is a prime example that the devs do not think like players, and do not even play their own game. It was a patch that essentially says if your nation is not connected to that point, you have no reason to be over there and take that guild castle. For a game that focuses on controlling locations, it strongly limits you and encourages you stay on your own side.
Maybe worth picking up when it's on sale, you might make some good friends, but outside of that, don't come in to this game with high hopes of a great pvp game. Maybe the devs will put more effort to not make everything feel so restricted, or punish people for going out of the lines and listen a bit more to their players trying to help them make the game better for people actually playing it on a regular basis. Review their player suggestions and actually seriously consider players who have time invested in the game and have a decent amount of positive reactions, and maybe have the community vote yes or not to the changes they want to make that impact our game play. I guarantee the majority of the current player base would downvote this current patch.
