Über das Spiel

The gameplay of Glitchpunk is a feast for all fans of high-octane action, explosive shootouts and cyberpunk aesthetics. It is top-down action inspired by the classics of the genre, wrapped in a futuristic neon cloak. There’s plenty of guns, melee weapons and vehicles for you to choose from and cause havoc with. Experience frantic action and wild police chases while listening to futuristic beats on your stolen car’s radio.

Run, hack, steal, drive, shoot and blast your way through the criminal underworld of the future. Make some friends, make even more enemies. Kill or be killed, even if it means killing everything you love.

But that’s not all: Glitchpunk’s dystopian streets, back alleys and skyscrapers are also stage for themes like transhumanism, xenophobia and religion as well as an all too human story about relationship, self-discovery and betrayal. The sex and drug infused world of the future raises many questions, only one thing seems certain: humanity is a matter of perspective.

You are an android gifted with a special trait called "glitch": It enables you to go against your programming. Set out to destabilize the tyrannical governments of the post-nuclear world, it's up to you to craft your own agenda. Across four unique locations filled tech-crazed gangs, drugged-up gangs and governed by ever-present megacorporations, take up contracts, earn money and upgrade yourself.

Influence whether or not a gang leader stays on top of the food chain, or let heads roll. There might be something more for you to gain than just money: An ally, or a friend? Maybe even a lover.

Features:
  • Brutal top-down action with a big arsenal of weapons to choose from
  • Many different ways of locomotion, including trains, tanks, motorbikes, buses, trucks and obviously tons of cars
  • Frantic police chases and up to 10 escalations of wanted-levels
  • 12 gangs with their own stories, quests and culture
  • 4 different cities, from the desert remains of the USA to cyberpunk Soviet Russia in a post-nuclear winter
  • Mature story with several endings
  • Rare artstyle mix of 2D sprites in 3D environment
  • In-game radio with music by artists from all over the world, together with news stations and absurd commercials

cool game like gta 2 in cyberpunk world !!! but fps drops and general bad fps very little going on on staring cars or people are too little, more needs to be done, and the police become smarter when it comes to chases. So longer on one is not too hard that it is unfair. But it's still in E.A. hope it will be great !!!! I hope . sry for typing errors

I was expecting a GTA2-style-game with a cool cyberpunk look.

What I got was a game that was far too difficult to control.

Frustration from the second mission onwards, due to a difficulty level that was too high.
Police cool down is way too high.

It has frame drops and freezes some times.

Yes it is EA, but please do something to make the game better.

Awesome. Take GTA2. Feed it all kinds of drugs and some neons. But most importantly. Buy the game.

On a more serious note. We all love GTA 2 for this one reason propably. Unique setting.

A setting thats not really that much of a cyberpunk. There is very little of noir in both GTA 2 and Glitchpunk. But there is enough psychosis. Madness. Insanity is what sells this game and what was so charming in GTA 2 back in the days.

Glitchpunk is psychotic and insane. I thought i hate its radio loops yet i discovered that they fit excactly in this very narrow and unexplored space of insanepunk, psychopunk, freakpunk.

Remember kids. Don't take your meds. Or maybe take them after all?.

Embrace total insanity. Get blown. Get free. Be the one glitched or the glitch. Be both, none or the mix. Be the king of psychos. Or get eatean by them.

Not polished enough to spend money on. Even with specs turned down it's unplayable and difficult to control.

That being said, let's talk about the good stuff; Music, radio banter, and text are VERY well done. Some folks are complaining about the graphical style but they're allowed to be wrong, that's their right. Controls are not GTA2 style which was funky to get use to but after adjusting, they feel more versatile and make sense.

I'm ready to see how the next few patches help performance and game flow but if you're looking to buy, maybe wait until official release.

I really want to like this game, but it's hard. Technical difficulties aside (choppy frame rates), I spent most of my time in game trying to find npcs to kill, so I could have enough money to buy ammo or guns to run a mission. NPCs are ridiculously hard to find. so 1.8 of my 1.9 hours was spent running around an empty map just to get enough money for a basic weapon.

Waited and waited for this to be improved, but it is still horrible, really tried to like it, but just a mess.
Awful controls, poor optimisation. Just bad all the way around.

Really wanted to like this game, but it just controls like absolute garbage. Moving and shooting is not very fun and the driving is horrendous. Just go play GTA 2 for something better. Such a shame, I hope they can rework it in the future and then I'd return.

It is bad, in the sense that the controls seem to be extremely counter-intuitive. I cant even drive a car in a straight line. They promised chaos. They delivered chaos. But not in a good way. There is no way I can make this game work for me. The controls are a dealbreaker.

Update: There was a large patch on September 30th, Quality of Life update that should have fixed most of the serious technical issues. I haven't replayed the game yet.

The game punked me immediately upon starting it by skyrocketing my fps to 482 in the main menu, effectively stun locking my GPU at 100% and 75°C in seconds. And my PC isn’t exactly a potato that needs frying, running an RTX2070, i7-7700K and 32GB of RAM, with an SSD to boot. Without capping the fps, it climbs to about 90 in-game on High settings, making the game stuttery and giving me a hot GPU turbine background noise. After capping the fps to 60 in the Nvidia panel, the game behaves like it should, mostly. There’s still some stuttering and weird lagging, but it becomes playable, for a bit at least. Unless you need to reduce your post-processing to medium, which completely changes the in-game lighting making everything pitch black. Checking the Known Issues topic in the discussions unveils more than a few bugs and glitches, from the mentioned post-processing problem to declining performance and heavily sparkling textures. I’ve had one complete freeze, where even alt+F4 wasn’t reacting and declining performance kept calling me to have a beer with her.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2604275633

Apparently, there was even a hidden DRM when the game came out, causing even more issues for anyone trying to play. The offending party has been removed with the second patch, but take a look at some of the Steam reviews from August and you’ll get the gist of it. Saying “The game is not yet optimized for best performance” on multiple instances and having serious technical issues has no place in Early Access. And the hidden DRM is an awfully charming move by the developers, or publishers, even if it was removed. This is one of those games that personifies the joys and wonders of an Early Access getting out of bed way too early, slipping on a banana peel and face planting in a pile of dirty laundry.

You’re still here after reading all of the above? You’re special then, just like your character in-game, an android newcomer to the city of New Baltia which is the only unlocked area for now. As a glitch in the system, you’re able to go against your programming, making you a valuable bounty hunter and errand boy/girl to the crazy cultists and gangs populating the city. In a nutshell, this is old school Grand Theft Auto in a cyberpunk setting, when GTA was all about carnage and mayhem from a top down perspective. Along with fluffy vibes of nostalgia comes the infuriating difficulty, tediousness and a steep learning curve of 20 year old mechanics. Or just a training regime for your patience.

Prepare for absolutely no checkpoints during missions, timed missions that can fail if even the slightest fart occurs where you don’t want it, cheap and easy deaths from falling off the map, getting run over by your own car you just exited, murderous Robocop police that triggers for even the slightest infraction and are almost impossible to shake off, and a ton of weird, glitchy deaths that you have to witness for yourself. To name just a few, it’s easy to get glued to scenery and other cars while driving, which stops you dead in your tracks, allowing the cops to just pull you out of your car and stomp you, angry civilians can punch you and knock you down, which tends to end with you getting immediately beaten to death with fists and blunt objects because you can’t move, and my favorite, you can get lawnmowered by a spinning vehicle out of nowhere. Oh, and you can bet you’re going to lose everything you had when you die and will have to restart the entire mission from scratch. On the plus side, you can restart your mission immediately after dying. But, if you go the Falling Down route outside of a mission, only with more blood and guts, and die, you’ll lose everything, including the cash, potentially getting yourself poorer than a church mouse.

While GTA was pretty barebones when it came to any kind of progression, Glitchpunk puts a few spins on your character. Aside from the aesthetic choice of male/female, it features modules that can be acquired from missions, found, or purchased from shops. The first one you get allows you to hack people using your focus, driving them into a frenzy for a limited time. Other modules increase a variety of stats, give you health and focus regen or grant you new abilities. It’s a nice, tiny RPG injection into an otherwise chaotic and frantic action playground of a down and dirty cyberpunk city. Bounty kiosks can also be found placed around the city, granting cash rewards for killing a certain number of NPC’s with a specific weapon in a set amount of time, and these can be really tough. There’s also garages where you can repair your car and lose the cops, and some special ones where you can turn your car into a car bomb. Or your immediate death if you scratch something a little harder.

When the game isn’t acting up, the action is wholly satisfying, explosive, fast paced and crazy as it’s supposed to be. Played from a top down perspective, aiming, shooting and movement is on point, driving a little less since the cars feel a bit floaty and unmanageable, even for hover cars. There are several weapons available, as well as health kits and a few consumables, tons of cars that can be liberated from their owners and three gangs in New Baltia to win or lose favors with. Going through the missions, you’ll eventually end up picking a side, and getting to one of the endings. You can restart the game after that and you get to keep all your cash and upgrades. Only the story gets restarted so you can chase a different ending, the chapter progress, or city if you like, stays with you.

The overall ambience and feel of the city is trademark cyberpunk done well, dark, gritty and neon infused. One slight nitpick with the 3D environment is that it can sometimes get confusing navigating it, especially when changing elevation, which can get borderline aggravating on some missions when you don’t know where to go and the doomsday mission clock is ticking away in large, bright red letters on your screen. The story touches on many cyberpunk tropes, including transhumanism, technophobia, religion and relationship between man and machine. Depending on which side you pick, you’ll get their version of the story, which is fair and complements the game, served to you through exposition during and after missions. It’s a shame that it’s awkwardly placed and easily missable with all the chaos around you when you should be paying attention to it. Additional world building is done through a couple of in-game radios and a news ticker appearing sporadically, which are all in the vein of old GTA absurdity. From the overzealous Radio Messiah to the creepy Informed Citizen Line, they’re all worth a listen.

There’s a good amount of promise on display here, for old souls that remember GTA and new ones that are looking for a punishing action experience. It’s smooth when it works, and addicting, even with all the cheap deaths and ancient mechanics. The city feels sufficiently alive, with gangs roaming around, random acts of violence and muggery happening in broad daylight, police sirens blaring and the overall craziness rounding everything out nicely. But, some serious technical issues that definitely shouldn’t be a part of any Early Access and glitches are holding it back from a recommendation in its current state. Hopefully, the direction it goes into is more punks, guns and grenades instead of glitches, bugs and DRMs.

Sadly, I can't recommend this right now.

I'm a huge fan of the genre. 20 years ago I spent hundreds of hours playing GTA1 and GTA2. I like the core concept. I appreciate the idea of bringing it into a cyberpunk setting.

But the performance issues are absolutely crippling. I couldn't enjoy the game. Once they are fixed I'll be back to play more and update my review.

I really wanted to play this game, and after a full rebuild with way overpowered everything, i saw this released and was all in.

This game was literally going to destroy my pc. It kept overheating and powering completely off. Feeling the case, it was hot. So I tested several other games that all ran at 35 to 40c, but when i booted up glitchpunk they immediately spiked to 50, and kept climbing. I wasnt even in game yet, just the start menu. Maaaybe one minute later i watched as my gpu was running at 98% and 60c, i tapped out and exited. I'm sure i was crashing at like 70+ as some other support posts talk about 75c temps.

Really a pity though, in contradiction to many other reviews, i found the gameplay to be amazing, I love it. I even played the demo for like 6+ hours a few months back, couldnt make it past about 10 minutes without a crash now.

Great game idea, unfortunately this is a pretty, but poorly built car that wont make it down the block.

A game with great potential, you can feel the cyberpunk atmosphere combined with nostalgia based on the first two parts of GTA. The graphics, difficulty level, driving model, sounds and music are a huge plus. The plot is good, the dialogues are interesting and fun. The downside is optimization and glitches, but I believe it will be improved in the future (the review is for early acsess). Overall the game is very enjoyable and rewarding.

EARLY ACCESS REVIEW!

Dlaczego jest taki piękny
Dlaczego tak zły dla ludzi
Dlaczego mój Glitchpunk
Tak kocham i nienawidzę

Litteraly the same feelings as from GTA/GTA2 games.

I like:
+ Modules idea.
+ Hideout and garages! Just image a garage for storing your car in it in GTA 2 - damn, that's what I was dream about.
+ Tezur0 car mens POGGERS)
+ Graphics.
+ Detailed dialogs.
+ Difficulty.

I dislike:
- Radio. But, you know, it is a pretty subjective thing.
- Overall optimisation obviously.
- You have the full map of the city from the begining, so you don't have to explore it in order to find certain gunshop, for example. Also it makes police chases less interesting and challenging, because you know where respray shop is located.
- Empty roads. I have no idea why, but highways are almost empty all the time for me.

I'm looking forward to see future updates!!!

I am very sad to say that I cannot recommend this game in it's current condition.

> Game is badly optimised and runs poorly
> Resolution just seems off and textures poor quality
> Police respawn just off camera and shaking the police seems near impossible
> Story not engaging
> Radio mostly talk radio and quite annoying

I really hope it improves and I'll probably pick it up again on full release once these issues are resolved.
