Gas Guzzlers Extreme ist ein Rennspiel bei dem großer Wert auf Zerstörung und Geschicklichkeit gelegt wird. Die Grafik, der Sound und die Musik sind für ein Spiel dieses Alters und dieser Preiskategorie sehr gut und auch die vielen Strecken, Waffen und Autos können überzeugen. Fazit: Witziges Rennspiel mit guten Effekten und tollen Sprechern zum fairen Preis.

Cooles Game, kann man auf jedenfall sagen.
Zum Anfang verwirrend, aber dann geht man auch schon ab wie son Tier :D
Die Musik geht auf jedefall gar nicht!!! Mute only
und nach wenigen Std. hat man schon so gut wie alles Freigeschaltet,
gammelt aufn ersten Platz rum und verliert rasant die Lust am Game.

Ich jedoch würds mir trotzdem wieder kaufen ;)

Btw der Multiplayer online modus ist tot,
keiner mehr am zocken also Kumpels überzeugen oder alleine durchziehen^^

Dieses Spiel erinnert sehr an NICE2, Crashday, Vigilante8 und solche anderen Spiele.
Die Fahrphysik ist gut gelungen, die Waffenbalance wie ich finde könnte ein klein bisschen Feinschliff vertragen, da mir im Rennen die Raketenwerfer etwas schwach vorkomen, aber nun gut. Die Anzahl der Strecken ist ordentlich, aber dort könnte eventuell ein bisschen mehr Variation auftauchen.
Das Spiel spielt sich wirklich sehr gut, es macht sehr viel Spaß, vor allem wenn man solche Spiel wie Vigilante 8 oder Filme wie Death Race mag. Es gibt eine gute Variation an Spielmodi, sogar Last man Standing und Deathmatch sind dabei. Die Anzahl und Auswahl der Autos ist auch sehr gelungen. Äußerlich kann man zwar bis auf Lackierung, Vinyls und Felgen nicht viel ändern, aber das reicht auch bei so einem Spiel, man hat vom äußeren meist eh nicht lange etwas :P

Leider ist in der Multiplayer Lobby noch nicht viel los, da das Spiel leider kaum einen bekanntheitsgrad hat, aber ich hoffe persönlich dass sich das ändert, denn im Multiplayer macht es gleich noch mehr Spaß! ;)

Fazit:
Ich habe seit Flatout UC kein Rennspiel so sehr gemocht wie GGX und muss sagen ich bin begeistert
Ich habe schon lange auf so ein Spiel gewartet, für mich ist es das DeathRace der Spiele!

I might be screaming into the void a bit by reviewing a game that came out almost a decade ago, but this one stands apart.
I actually got it in a bundle when I bought Frostpunk, and I have to say this game is incredible. I seriously wish I could have been around for when it was taking off, because every piece of this game was made with love and it is easy to see.
You can read the description of what it is yourself, but let me tell you about how polished it is. I play on a 2K monitor and these cars are gorgeous! The explosions and combat of the game feels impactful and real, the racing is fair and definitely skill based, and the progression of the campaign will keep you on edge as more and more becomes available.
You slowly upgrade cars of course, but really the learning of new weapons adds the most for me. Start by getting shredded by an AIs gun and having to think about how to dodge attacks in a race, sure that once you unlock it you will be unstoppable, but then you get it and you suck! The weapons all take a bit of practice, but I wouldn't have it any other way. There is nothing more prefect than going out of your way in a race to chase down a rival and nail him with whatever while perfectly drifting around him. Obviously, there are several different styles of weapons, I prefer a couple but love being able to use them all.
As the campaign keeps unrolling, new courses and also race styles become available. By the end of the campaign, you have just as much practice running near-perfect laps as having an all out brawl-fest launching missiles while doing donuts with explosions literally everywhere.
This might be the last game produced that was made with so care and humor and was such a complete item on purchase. Even with a new price, the amount of time you will spend genuinely engrossed makes it worth it. Even after completing the game several times, I still enjoy the challenge of progression and somehow I keep coming back even after years.

Side note: I played this game w/o internet on a Navy ship on and off for half a year, so add ~60-70 hours to whatever it says I've played. If you care about that sort of thing.

Introduction

Considering I got this for $1 on Fanatical's mystery key machine sale, it is a dollar well spent honestly. This is probably as close as you are gonna get to a modern Twisted Metal for PC. So far, the campaign is decent, I have not ran into much issues. It is a bit difficult on the Sponsored events, but that is a good thing. AI driver's names are references and stuff, voices are meh, but one caught me off guard entirely, maps are decent, and it has a ton of content. A game like this, good by today's standards, is not without its bad parts.

DISCLAIMER: Gas Guzzlers Extreme is a pretty decent game for the price [b]I paid, which was a hell of a deal to begin with. So this review will reflect it being at the full $25 MSRP price. Please respect this.[/b]

The Good

Lets start off with the good parts. This game does not look dated, which surprises me. There is a lot of content: tracks, cars, rims, and hey, something NFS MW 2012 and NFS HP 2010 do not have: customization. Gamepires tried to replicate the formula of Twisted Metal, and I say they did it well. There is a piece of something for everyone, and I love that. HOWEVER...

The Meh

The voice acting is meh for some voices and some are decent. One of which, the Duke Nukem voice, was actually voiced by Clint from Lazy Game Reviews on YouTube. Kinda caught me off guard really since it was so long, and I never imagined content creators having cameos in games back then, let alone one I watch. Of course, that one is one of the better voices provided in this game. Points to Gamepires for letting content creators cameo in their media before anyone else has though.

The Ugly

The progression is way to f*cking quick for a racing game of this nature. 10 races in and I got about half of what the game offers. To me, that makes me think this game is gonna be pretty short, and that's not good. I'm not knocking the game for what is provided, because for a $25 game in 2013, the size of content here is pretty substantial. I just really like progression, but I do not like the progression in this game, or lack thereof. If you like progression as much as I do, Test Drive Unlimited 2 is on Amazon for $20, or wait for the third game. And yea, as many people say: Do not bother going online. It's as dead as a chance for Grand Theft Auto 6 arriving within 5 years. It does not mean you cant have a bit of fun on single player though.

Conclusion

This is rather a short review, but that is okay. This is a pretty good time-waster if you get it from Fanatical's mystery key machine or for very cheap. For $25, it just is not worth it. From the lack of progression, which is a big deal breaker, multiplayer being dead, some of the voices being sub-par, reported software crashes, the repetitiveness of it all... you are better off emulating Twisted Metal Black and playing that. I will continue playing this until completion, and I will update for any new info.

Good racer with weapons, arcade game so dont expect simulation. The game itself offers many different game modes, all pretty crazy and fun. Worth buying only with all dlc. If you remember Vigilante 8 or Twisted metal - sadly not like those old legend but abit similar. Worth buying.

This game was a real surprise for me. I got in a fanatical bundle, and I was just going to check it out for a minute, but it's very polished, it has good humor, the handling is great, everything feels tight with this game and it was made with love. Totally recommended!

I didn’t expect Gas Guzzlers Extreme to be so much fun. I honestly bought it, because I thought it might entertain me for an hour or two. But it honestly is way better than expected. It is actually really fun and a great game to play after a long day of work, when you just want to relax and destroooy some cars.

There are different game modes: normal race, battle, knockout, deathmatch and last man standing.
There is a great variety of cars and weapons, that you will unlock by playing the career mode and you can also upgrade your motor, tires, protection, etc.

The graphics are fine, and the soundtrack is quite nice. It is indeed a solid title.

And the absolute best about this game are…. The bots’ names: Jenny Talia, Nick O’Tyne, Lee Mealone, etc. They all have such stupid but fun names. I loved this little in game jokes. Props to the devs.

Gas Guzzlers Extreme is definitely worth giving it a try. Unfortunately, the multiplayer lobbies aren’t online anymore. This could have been super fun to play with friends.

This game is honestly better than it has any right to be. It is incredibly stupid and it is well aware of the fact that it is stupid from the names of the fictional companies to the names of the AI drivers- even the car descriptions are wacky! 9.7/10 needs better steam controller support.

Rubber banding, cheap AI that consistently slingshot past you on the last lap soured the experience for me.
Other than that, I found the game to also be very dull and repetitive. CTF and deathmatch are fun for a while but the fixed camera positioning without full 360 degree rotation makes for clumsy and awkward gameplay.

One of those games that makes me wish I had friends to play it with. It's Twisted Metal with Mario Kart style racing and other cool modes like defend from the hordes!!! Not some pay2win garbo which is very common these days.. Give it a run with your buddies 9/10

This game tries to be like flatout 2 with guns. It succeeds in that it is not bad, but it becomes repetitive.
Positives:
-Fun and satisfying combat.
-Basic upgrade and customization options.
-Satisfying difficulty in the AI.

Negatives:
-Repetitive and small cramped maps. It is a weird system in campaign. You choose a mission type and the map is random and sometimes the same. Also the different routes are obviously faster and If you don't use them it is certain that you will lose. Bigger, more open and more maps would fix this.

-Not the best car physics. The driving is really heavy and not satisfying. The cars feel slow. The physics model would need a bit of tuning.

-Uninteresting upgrades. It is just numbers and they don't feel significant. The system is slow. You win a race and you win one or two things. Or nothing. Bigger upgrades with visual changes would be more interesting.

-The random extra quests are not that fun because they are random. For example, kills with mines are incredibly hard to do and it asks for three in a single race in exchange for a minimal award. The quests could be dynamic so that they make you play in a different style to get them.

-The other drivers don't have personalities like your character. They could have voice lines for kills, or for when they overtake you. They could also have face portraits when they talk, It would make them more real.

The game is always on big sales. For as low as it gets, it is fun for five hours. I wish the developers learn from the mistakes and make a second game. I will surely try it.

If you liked games like Twisted Metal, Interstate 76, and Vigilante 8 then this is one of the only modern games that can reproduce the feelings of those masterpieces. Grab the gold edition and have a seriously good time.

The game would be amazing if my controller would work. It's kind of a let down when you get a game that states it has full controller support, and well... it had zero controller support. Using a DS4 controller, and I've tried a myriad of things. Wired vs BT, DS4 Windows, Starting up it in admin from the exe, starting it up not in admin from the exe, restarting steam, restarting my computer, playing around with different steam settings. Literally nothing works. If you are looking forward to using a controller with this, buyer beware that it does NOT support it.

I got it for like less than 4 dollars so yeah at that price it's fine. Lots of content for that price. Somehow still 1 active server online somewhere in Europe. 1 small nitpick is the damage modeling is not at all connected to actual player health. In a team game if you crash into a teammate, you take no damage, but the car model is still messed up

This game is a great buy under $5... I picked it up during a sale.

This is one of those high octane car killing derby race games where you can make some modifications to the cars you ride or die in. I racked up a few achievements in one night playing single player campaign mode. There is certainly some replay value to this game.

I must say that this game is very good. Much above my expectations coming into it. The car control works nicely, the weapons are interesting, and the race modes are crazy fun. I am not really sure, since the first time I played it was a few yers ago, but it seems much better then that time. I don't know if the developers made some changes, but the game feels well polished enough to guarantee some good hours of fun.

The in-game music is good for the races, even if not much varied. The driver's voice is an interesting feature, and it can also be modified to not use bad language (if that is an issue for you). In general, music and sound effects, combined with the combat racing action, help to keep you immersed in the game and makes you feel good when you manage to blow up your opponents.

The only downside that I see so far is that the races feel a bit samy after some time of play, but there are new tracks to unlock, so this helps. Anyway, the game is well done and deserves my recommendation. It is hard to find a good combat racing game, and this one does the job.

Overall, this game feels to me like Flatout 2 with guns, or a 3D version of the old Death Rally, and that can't be bad.

Charmingly juvenile vehicle combat that's fun solo or with friends. It's as close as the PC gets to Twisted Metal in my experience, though the balance of weapons and power-ups leans a little more Mario Kart. Gas Guzzlers Extreme vigorously scratched my vehicular combat itch, and I am satisfied with my care.

Echt een bangelijk goeie demolition of beter gezegd demolition/combat racer.
Je kan racen op zeer diverse vrij lange circuits, en er zijn ook wedstrijden waar bij er een wapen op je dak gemonteerd is om zoveel mogelijk dood en vernieling te zaaien onder de andere racers en de omgeving.
Verder is er ook nog een capture the flag (CTF) dat iedereen wel kent van Unreal Tournament maar ook van die andere racer uit lang vervlogen tijden nl 1nsane ;)
De banen liggen bestrooid met powerups, goudstaven, armorshields, rookgordijnen, bommen, die je kan oppikken en onmiddellijk gebruiken of wachten op het goede moment.
Extra bonuspunten verdien je door zoveel mogelijk decor aan gruzelementen te rijden, maar ook rondlopend wild zoals kakelende kippen en huppelende konijnen mag je dood rijden (eens iets anders dan de koeien en mensen in Carmageddon héhé.
De wagens rijden zalig met controller (Xbox360 controller), de impact van crashes en ontploffingen hebben hun gewenste impact en de kunstmatige intelligentie is meer dan ok.
Ook de schademodellen zijn mooi om te zien, mss niet zoals in Flatout 2 Ultimate Carnage maar wel goed genoeg.
De trajecten zijn erg afwisselend en mooi om door te racen.

Absolutely fantastic game.

It doesn't try to be anything it isn't, and it does what it is extremely well.

A fun arcade driving game.... with guns! And various other things that always keep the race interesting and always keeps you on your toes and entertained.

And plenty of humour in the upgrades and descriptions etc too, anywhere they can squeeze something daft and funny in they do.

Campaign mode is well executed and keeps you wanting more. Plenty of variety of things going on. Customisations, upgrades, different types of events and races etc. Also you're not forced to do the ones you enjoy less, if a particular race mode is your favourite, just keep doing that over and over!

Graphics are good too.

I really don't know how they could've made this game better. Everything about it done to entertainment perfection. (Altho a wiki would be nice explaining the different car stats, grouping, events, etc.)

I wasn't expecting much from it, and was pleasantly surprised. Reminds me of playing super mario kart on the snes when i was younger. The mechanics and style are obviously very different, but it's the same kind of entertainment - addictively fun driving with lots of combatey stuff going on to keep you entertained.

I find racing simulators can get boring after a while - just accel, brake, left, right; over and over with dreary monotony. Memorising the tracks and it's just tedious self discipline forcing yourself to keep concentrated so you don't get your timings wrong. This game on the other hand is none stop fun, never a dull moment.

Simply a game where what you pay thats what you get. Great combat with 10 out of 10 humor. I laughed in this game so many times. Some of the effects are done really well. Some of the single player isnt perfectly balanced but other then that multiplayer is a blast.

Gas Guzzlers Extreme is a combat racing game in which the player races the opponents while attacking with pre-set weapons as well as pick up items. The variety of weapons is quite large for the pre-set weapons (that is, those you add to your car and stay there for the whole race) and very limited for the pick up items. However, the pre-set weapons alone do offer a fun combat experience.
The driving, as one would expect, is really arcade-y with fast speeds and numerous drifts. As a fan of these kinds of racing games, I am really pleased with the feel of the driving. Some of the races will take place in snowy or rainy tracks, which do affect the handling in a way that is not frustrating.
It has a surprising amount of tracks as well, with plenty of alternative paths as well as destructible objects and small animals you can run over for bonus points. As per the cars, it seems to be just as plentiful in that regard, with some elements of customization (stickers and rims) available.
Overall it is a really fun combat racing game with really solid graphics and a great feel to its driving. A great pick, specially considering the low prices it reaches.

Entertaining, lovable trash. I wish there was a manual transmission option but its otherwise a fun game that reminds me of the Hot Wheels battle racing games i played as a kid with a hair more depth. Waste a couple hours and bucks on this for a decent time.

Guns, cars and racing. What is there not to like? Bloody good fun and quite a challenge on higher difficulty levels. Only one disappointment. That's the multiplayer. Hardly any servers left now, and very very rare to see a fellow human race. Fortunately, the AI is very good, and multiplayer is still playable

I remember playing this a number of years ago now, but the memories are still pretty fresh. Going into Last Man Standing races and just obliterating anyone in my way, playing Deathmatches like it was Twisted Metal all over again, and cruising around sporting my sponsor paintjob.

To break the game down into simple, easy to read numbers:
Graphics: 7/10 - The game is simply gorgeous for it's age. Easy to look at, but definitely a bit bright at times., and some textures are also a little meh.

Music: 8/10 - This one's subjective for sure. But I won't lie, the music really fits the atmosphere.

Gameplay: 9/10 - Remember Twisted Metal? It's kind of like that, but there are circuit races available, too! Go round and round blowing up opponents with rocket launchers, miniguns, and whatever else you can strap down.

Story/Campaign Mode: 10/10 - The game is completely under your control. You can select what type of races you want to do regardless of where you are in your playthrough. Feel like blowing shit up? Last Man Standing or Deathmatch. Want a straight up race? That's an option, too. You're in control. Play according to your preferences!

Overall: 8.5/10. This game packs a wallop. And I cannot describe how much fun this game brought me, even the online component at the time. They say you win some, you lose some. This time around, if someone's winning... Just blow them up.
