Bleibt gesund

The game is not just to hard to be enjoyable, the RNG is the biggest bullshit and ruins the experience.
When you are looking for a cool rouge like game with hours of good gameplay you can enjoy. Keep looking!!!

It's just too bad all my completionist stuff that I've unlocked back when I was completionist was totally wiped out.
This game is just has so much depth and nearly everything has purpose when the right parameters are met.
Also the interface and graphics are very easy on the eyes.

The only real problem with FTL is eventually you know everything about it, around 175-200 hours you run out of new surprises. This was solved by Multiverse an excellent mod, which is practically FTL 2, that took me less than 30 minutes to install and get working that adds easily another 150-200 hours more content on an already amazing game.
The best time to play FTL was 8 years ago, the second best time is now.

I like doing spaceship controller things - I like being able to redirect the power, I liked finding the early strat of 'disarm the enemy weapon' and you've basically defeated them (unless they're past Sector 2-ish in which case only doing that won't work and I'm developing a new strat), I like that there are so many systems to keep track of but it never feels like overwhelming, 'cause the game is great at letting you discover how it works. I like the roleplay and I like experimenting with different upgrades, and seeing what I can still do in a risky situation, like if I lose all my crew members except one. the game has lots of different RNG encounters that are balanced to keep things fair and also interesting. currently I have a save where I saved the Envoy from the Zoltan Cruiser, that gave me a Purity Test to see whether I was Truly Trustworthy. they're a special crew member but once this ship fails somehow... i'll just start from the start again lol
edit: one thing though. if true change comes without bloodshed, am i destroying and looting pirate ships and rebel ships and alien hostile ships (in self-defence) so that i can prevent genocide of my faction/the Federation... like is that good?

The answer is yes, yes you will. And you'll enjoy the challenge of starting all over every time you fail. Then, sometime after you've demolished your 5th keyboard out of frustration, you may actually win.
I come back to this when I'm tired of more involved games (or I'm downloading a new one) and just want a simple time-waster. It's great, a little older, and now that I've written a recommendation I won't get asked to every time I view it in my library!

Sector 3: Things are going well, everyone is making friends and it's all great.
Sector 5: The going gets tough, but we're making it, a few close calls and we continue through.
Sector 7: The crew suffers heavy losses and I realize that I got attached. Tears are shed.
Sector 8: Failed to beat the final boss, lost everything, cry.
If at first you don't succeed, Try, Cry, Try Again.

-Enough surprises to keep the game fresh
-A great challenge that keeps me coming back
Cons:
-Easy mode can be difficult, and daunting for new players

This game would be considered too slow by many gamers. It's about making choices rather than twitching fingers. Do you dock with that abandoned looking fuel station, or decide to move on? Do you save the person who crash landed or just leave them stranded on that planet? These decisions can help or hurt your mission. Make the right choices and you will have a better chance of surviving the space battles.

There is no save. No return.
The game depends highly on luck.
Combined with that, it's good that the runs are that short.
Basically, the game consists of a rogue-like survival, where you have to manage your power distribution, repairs, possible intruders, the ship you're currently fighthing and fires breaking out. A simple game loop. You jump, hope to find something good, watch your fuel, jump again and try to navigate through eight sectors, each one getting tougher and tougher.
To make it even worse, Rebels are following you, trying to kill you, so there's not much time to spend exploring and looting.
I can absolutely recommend this game for $10 or less (especially if less), if you're an avid strategy player or like short rougue-like survival games like this.

In all seriousness though, FTL is really good. If you're new to the genre this is a wonderful place to start. The game lets you pause at any time and does not penalize you for it. The difficulty scaling is fair and the weapons and upgrades are interesting. The more you play, the better you get. No matter what though, you will always gamble on giant alien spiders and you will always regret it

A rogue-like spaceship game!?! Where do I sign up?? Even though this game was out in 2012 it still plays very well in 2020. Every game is different and there are several ships to choose from. Want to kill your enemies from a distance with Torpedoes and drones, sure go ahead! Want to board the enemy ship and kill everyone on board, why not? Instead of sending your people why not send combat drone?! Oh no they are invading our ship, well lets lock them in a room and let all the air out!
Each ship has its strengths and weakness, and each time you play you’ll get a new randomly generated world. So replayability is excellent. Subset Games is an awesome little indie company with 2 commercial games out, and both are great! Please check out the gameplay video above.
Pros
Every game is different which keep it fresh
You can customize your ships as you go though each area
The doors ????
Cons
The game is easy enough at the start but then gets hard
Expect to die, by either getting boarded and having your crew killed, a missile punches through you hull and everyone suffocates, your ship goes “boom” and many other creative ways!

It's the first game that immersed me in its world. There is no voice acting, yet I am pretty sure I've heard them.
I'm no writer but this game's writing made me feel part of the crew, the taciturn yet lively universe. After grieving my honorable crew-mates who gave their lives for our survival. We've received a emergency signal from a nearby planet, we were just back up on our feet after a hard jump. We had to make things right, the life of our fellows wasn't for us to act with such cowardice. Just as the planet faded into our sight, we were ambushed, the signal was a decoy.
We couldn't fight off the pirates, they took no prisoners. I died last, after seeing my friends die, in the end we were all reunited in this vast graveyard that is space.
These stories were built off the wonderful atmosphere provided by the music, and the beautiful writing. I've had many of stories like these, each of which I still hold dear and I've played the game for a while before it was on Steam.
As for the gameplay, I've had a lot of fun. The combats can and often will be fast-paced and engaging, and the satisfaction of repairing the damage done to your ship after a hard fight is unmatched. By its nature of roguelike each death has its teachings and you will certainly die a lot.
Overall, I'd say it is a very fine game.
It leaves room for creativity in your gameplay and let's your imagination fly free. I've played for a while without getting bored thanks to its high replayability.
I love this game.

I played this a lot. Thousand hours? Or so. Sometimes I leave the ships shooting at each other to level up my crew members. Only to warp to the next point and get rekt by some BS.
Then I come back for more.
Its a challenging game for sure. But the game rewards experience, strategic knowledge, and a bit of dexterity on the controls. I found a lot of fun building an all laser ship, or all fire ship, or a boarding party ship. And laughing maniacally as we leave every room on the enemy ship burn.
Or sometimes you warp into a system where it craps on your shields and all you have is a ION cannon and a little laser and the enemy has 3 shields, a beam weapon, and just boarded your ship.
I guess I'm not doing this game much justice, but its addictive to work on small things like winning with certain ships and then next taking the Intermediate difficulty setting.
And god the Stealth ships you can pick are THE WORST at intermediate. =)

Its got it all, cute 8-bit graphics, an amazing soundtrack, consistent replayability, thoughtful yet tense gameplay, and a hell of a lot of charm. FTL is an example of a game that has found it's niche, submarine style space combat, an experience unlike any other.
I even listen to the title screen when i feel nostalgic.
Easily a 10/10 I wish I could go back in time and replay it all over again.

Space Ship Battles, strategy. Round based ship movement, but real time combat. Upgrade your ship, recruit different races. Very addicting, great Soundtrack.
Some achievements are very hard.
Story
Here you are no rebel who wants to defeat an evil empire. You are escaping from the rebel fleet, heading through different sectors, aiming to arrive at your base.
There is not much of an actual story, but frankly there’s all that’s needed to provide a great and entertaining game. There are some random encounters where you need to make decisions, but alltogether this kind of game does not need a deeper story. It’s already addicting enough.
Gameplay
EverYou navigate through various points on your star map. Each jump costs fuel and also makes the rebel fleet follow you, so you have to decide which way to go. On your way through the different sectors you use combats (and some random encounters) to obtain scrap (= currency) and sometimes (but more rarely) also loot to upgrade your ship, so you will be fit enough for the final boss.
The random encounters are indeed random. There is very often more than one possible outcome for your decisions.
The combat itself is real time combat – you will be using your space bar to pause the game while executing your strategy (aiming lasers, make crew repair damaged systems, etc.) pretty often.
Once you find a store with a crew teleporter in stock and you happen to have enough scrap, you will also be able to board the enemy ship and fight them on their ground.
There are also systems like mind control, cloaking and even a race that sucks oxygen from their surrounding and make others suffocate.
Faster than light provides a lot of possibilities and is a great time sink.
Sometimes the randomness turns out quite frustrating though, so prepare to do a lot of restarts, like when you suddenly find yourself in an asteroid field and encounter an enemy with a Zoltan Shield. (additional shield that prevents actions like boarding and mind control before being taken down)
If you fulfill certain conditions you will unlock additional ships. Doing so feels really satisfying.
Looks
As you see from the store screenshots, the graphic is pretty basic. Normally I am more for nice graphis and more color, but this graphic style is absolutely sufficient and together with the background sound, it provides an awesome sci-fi feeling.
Achievements
Some of the achievements are very hard and will take a lot of time to complete.
Pros
- very addicting gameplay
- great variety (weapons, ship systems, races) makes a lot of different strategies possible
- basic graphic style + background music provide a great sci-fi atmosphere
- random map generation supports the replayability
Cons
- andomness sometimes causes frustration
Conclusion
Faster Than Light is a very addicting space ship strategy game that lets you fight your way through different space sectors, lets you upgrade your ship and punishes you hard for bad decisions and bad combat.
Its randomness in terms of map generation and enemies/locations provides an even greater replayability value, but sometimes also leads to frustration because there is a possibility of encountering pretty tough situations. Yes, this will happen. Its upsides still overweight its downsides easily.
I am by far no great strategy player, but I have had tons of fun with this game.
There is a good variety of ship systems, weapons/tech and also some different alien races, each with a special trait.
On meeting certain conditions, you will unlock additional ships. Doing so feels very satisfying and those additional ships also provide even more variety because of their different starting crew/systems/weapons.
There is a lot to do.
If you feel curious about this, give it a try.

This tends to mean that you have to lose fifteen times before you get that one run in which you have a realistic shot at victory. If the crew, weapons, systems and upgrades you need just don't end up being available, you usually end up with a slow, painful slog to the final boss just to get crushed anyway, and that's if you make it there in the first place.
It's a quite well respected game in most ways, but I personally never found it very enjoyable.
I continued playing out of desire to finally beat it, but it just isn't worth the effort to me.
I kind of had to force myself to stop when I realized that it just wasn't ever any fun.
A lot of people do enjoy it, so don't be too afraid to check it out.
Just be ready to lose a lot before you really get anywhere with it.

Why? Because when people say it's really hard they're not kidding. And it's not even Dark Souls hard. It's bad RNG hard.
Sure it's a rogue like I get that. But even on the easy setting you can get hit with a really hard enemy and major ship damage on your first jump. How far you progress is so much down to luck that strategy takes a back seat the majority of the time for me.
I'll forget how unrewarding playing the game was and play for a couple hours. Give up and not play it for a month or two. Decide to give it another try and remember just how hard it was. I've been repeating this cycle for years.
Only get the game if you have a very high tolerance for frustration. Me? I lack that and am happy I didn't spend a lot on the game.

I don't want to waste hours and hours on this game to get to a point that I can actually beat EASY MODE! I want to enjoy playing this game, I DID enjoy playing what this game was! I loved it. Didn't win every time, but I didn't mind! BACK THEN!
If it was possible I would demand a refund, but steam no longer allows for that, as far as I can tell. So I have wasted my money on this product... Not happy with this, developers.
