Pro: -Speed Up funktion (Endlich kein überdramatisches Spazieren)

)

I love this game so much - clear recommendation! If you have played for years on the controller, it takes a little getting used to with the keyboard, but also goes. And in a pinch just connect the controller to the PC...

If you read this, pondering if you should play this, or not: If you can take a classic JRPG, then YES! Stop reading and start playing!

The Steam-version comes with some cheats. While they take away from the challenge, but it's a) not particularly hard to begin with and b) make the Grind-aspects easier, that will meet you in the Endgame, especially when you are after all achievements. Maybe don't use them until you reach the endgame and start the grind. :)

Mediocre to awful minigames tho.

Second game is more Charlie's Angels with Sailor Moon-fights and the approach of tackling the story is very different. If you survive the introductory scene, you can manage the rest. It won't get cringier than that.

Classic turn-based RPG's with a fantastic story, voice-acting (even if it is a meme) & gameplay. The main story will keep you going for many hours, & if you're committed to doing it all, there's a lot to sink your teeth into to get 100% completion on both games. Easily a couple hundred of hours potential gameplay.

For me, this is a nice trip down memory lane from the OG.

There are also some enhanced features on this version compared to the original: speed boost x2/4, no encounters, etc for ease of play.

An excellent remaster of two already excellent games. Utilizing the original full-CGI cinematics and implementing slightly improved gameplay graphics and character models, it's the same game it's always been, but a little easier on the eyes. FFX | FFX-2 feels like traveling back to your own comfy couch in the early 2000's.

Final Fantasy X is that game with the funny laugh people take out of context.

When Final Fantasy X came out it was kind of a big deal, Squaresoft's flagship game for the PS2 if you pretend The Bouncer didn't happen. Square tried to push the envelope with Final Fantasy in graphics, gameplay, cinematography, and generally push a next gen experience. After the success of Final Fantasy X, Square would release Final Fantasy X-2, a game with a hilarious title. X-2 would be the last game under the Squaresoft logo before their merger with Enix, creating the gaming monolith and grumpy-old-man-investor hive known as SquareEnix.

But after all these years, how IS the X series?
Its pretty cool, I guess.

In X you play as Tidus, the guy who's name everyone was apparently pronouncing wrong until Dissidia came out. But since his name is never actually said across two games, you can name him whatever you want.
You play as Herbert, Star Blitzball player of the Zanarkand Abes, a sport that's a cross between water polo and Meth-fueled fist fights. During his championship match, Herbert's game is attacked by a giant monster called Sin. Herbert is then saved by Auron, a friend of his dad, before being sent into the future to a world known as Spira by Sin itself.

Man, that's a lot of red squiggly lines in my writing software.

From here, Herbert meets characters like the Al Bhed thief Rikku, the Blitzball player Wakka, the Sorceress Lulu, and big blue cat man Khimari.
Some more squiggly lines there.

Oh yeah, and Yuna. Should probably mention the most important character in the story. So Herbert goes on a grand adventure with twists and turns and plot twists and betrayals and funny fantasy racism, and also other goofy stuff.
Can you believe the funny haha Blitzball guy gets the most character development?

I could probably fit X-2 in here somehow. Uh, Yuna, Rikku, and their new friend Paine, who is unfortunately not my girlfriend, go on adventures to steal spheres from people and places and also someone on the design team likes Devil May Cry because Yuna has suspiciously similar pistols now for reasons I can't get into without spoiling things.

Can't actually talk about the X-2 plot. I also went on too long about the plot.

Final Fantasy X forsakes the old ATB combat system in favor of a literal turn-based combat system that you can manipulate with buffs and debuffs. Everyone takes a turn to attack, but you can use spells like Haste and delay to make sure you can get more hits in before the other guy does. Its very rock paper scissors and everyone has a specific role.
Herbert is good at taking out faster enemies.
Wakka can one-shot most flying enemies
Auron turns armored enemies into mush
and Lulu will kill anything that moves because she can.

You can also summon a variety of Aeons, this game's summons, but I kind of stopped using them unless Yuna had her limit break. Or, er, Overdrive as its called here.

Its fun, can be a bit samey and boring at times, but when it flows it flows. Leveling up takes a backseat to a point system, gaining enough experience gives you S-levels that you can spend on the sphere grid. You use the levels to move around on this grid and then unlock stat upgrades and abilities connected to whatever node you're currently resting on. The sphere grid is huge and would take days to fill out for every character.
There are people who completely filled this thing out, you can basically build any character anyway you want, it might not be the most optimal and sometimes suck for certain characters, but, like, the option is there?
But you can also get 3-month insurance on your discs at Gamestop, that doesn't mean you should do it.

Since the HD version is the International versions of the game, you can also choose a random sphere grid at the start of the game. If you're especially a mad man.

After playing the PS1 Final Fantasy games before I played X in recent years, I can safely say that I prefer the older games in the series. I'm one of those mooks that actually likes the overworlds in RPGs, and Final Fantasy X and X-2 forsake that entirely. In fact, X is pretty linear as a whole.
XIII got crapped on for being a hallway, but the X series is honestly no better with long hallways that rarely ever spread out. Sure the overworlds were basically just “Go here from here” in VII, VIII, and IX, but they made the world feel alive and lived in. You could also find hidden areas and secret dungeons by just wandering around instead of just going left when you should have gone right.

There's a lot of stuff to do in both games, it has that going for it. But it feels more like you're doing extra content just to get more mileage out of your games. It doesn't have that sandbox feeling end game that Final Fantasy has had, since around the fourth game at least.

Most of the characters also feel like cardboard all the way until you're past the half-way mark of the game. They're lovable cardboard, they're YOUR cardboard, but they took awhile to cling to me the way other RPG characters tend to do.

Also, one of the antagonists is kind of a Goon. I don't mean that “unlikable because he's the villain” kind of way, he's just a clown in the worst way.
And not the fun way like Kefka was, everytime he shows up you're just like “Hey, its the idiot again.”

While the HD version has an option to skip movies, its only for CGI movies, all in-game cutscenes you'll have to go through by skipping dialogue if you've seen them before.
There's a boss later in the game that casts Mega death, and if you didn't know that like I didn't, well, I hope you're ready for a fifteen minute long cut scene before hand.

There's also some other quality of life stuff, turning up in-game speed for one, as well as turning encounter rates either off or increasing them all together. I also found a cheat menu that I decided to play with on a separate save. It unlocks the achievements connected to certain milestones, much to my surprise. Which is hilarious.

Final Fantasy X is an interesting game that turns into a slog around the 80% mark. And X-2 is such a tonal whiplash I think I could put on a cast and take the game to Kangaroo court. They're fun and neat, but I don't see myself getting as attached to these games as I did the others in the series. But if you're one of those dudes with thousands of hours in both, then hey man, more power to you. I'm not going to judge you on your fun.

Just make fun of you at school is all.

Final Fantasy X has the best story and characters in the franchise. Gameplay is timeless, anyone from the year 3000 can agree on how well designed it is.
It's a good PC port, keybind customization is a 10/10 for me. Visuals are good and works well even in 2022 but holy hell Tidus and Yuna's face looks really weird compared to the original game.

Final Fantasy X-2 is = facepalm, having played it for the first time, it has a completely different feeling compared to X, geared towards a more lighthearted storytelling but mashed with complete nonsense. It's enjoyable if you overlook all the anime tropes.

There is no way to play with japanese Audio and English text. The American dub is really bad and changes things like Tidus' personality to much for me to want it. The mod that is supposed to make it possible is gone and the mod that took over added tons of stuff that crashes the game. I know that it is a legal issue from Japan, but that is my reason to not recommend the game.

Many people would state that this is their favorite game of all time, and for good reason. Even years after its original release, and with the help of this remaster, this game is still very much worth playing. (I would also like to state that I never really had issues with the port on my computer, but do take into consideration the issues others have run into just in case) The story is amazing, and the music especially is very iconic. There are many features that make this game unique from other JRPGS, such as its unique take on leveling or the various minigames.

I personally found FFX-2 a pretty enjoyable game as well. There was just no chance that a sequel would have been able to top the original game, but it is still fun for what it is.

I know that the graphics might be a turnoff for some, but keep in mind this game was released over 20 years ago, and a remaster can only do so much. The cinematic cutscenes however still look amazing even to today's standards.

If you are looking for a JRPG to play, I highly recommend this game.

Big fan of FF7 and FF8; I don't know if I've changed or if the series has changed but I can't get into this one.

Lots of walking down hallways with frequent random encounters. Sphere system feels like unnecessary micromanagement to me. The character swapping mechanic is interesting and adds some flavour to combat. Overall, not having fun, just frustrated by the annoying encounters in boring environments.

This didn't bug me as much in FF7/8. At least I was walking around in what looked like a big, wide world.

Beautiful storytelling, engaging combat, and memorable characters, one of the best titles ever crafted. A coming of age story, with dramatic arcs that and twists that'll implore you to seek friends who've also played for a discussion. Still holds up in 2021 for young people, discussing finding family, spirituality, sacrifice, the cost of war, teamwork, and finding our path through each other. You'll be humming this music for the next 20 years while you navigate your own way through your life. FFX can help.

So today, Saturday the 31st of July 2021, I finally completed/beat the game (X not X-2) and what can I say? It's a great game!

Here's a short backstory from way back:
I first played this game when it first came out back in 2001. I was in school of course so I really liked this but to be honest I never made it that far as I borrowed a friends copy to play on their PS2 (this was in boarding school). I also bought my own copy of the game 5 years later when I was at college but I ended up struggling against the first boss fight with Seymour as his Aeon killed my entire party so I quit.
Oh yeah and I also had FF X-2 as well and yet again I never made much progress due to the lack of a strategy guide and the fact I got stuck.

Right now I get to experience the game in a HD Remaster for the first time and I actually prefer this version than the PS2 version as it's more up to date. And yes definitely I WILL recommend this to any RPG fans out there who love the FF franchise and other RPGs similar to this so I strongly recommend this!

Probably the best Final Fantasy in terms of Story or a close 2nd to Final Fantasy VII but a very good game well worth playing and Blitzball as a mini game is also awesome. X-2 wasn't as good but X more than makes up for it's sequel. If you gather all the Ultimate Weapons for each Character have fun because it takes some serious dedication.

Final Fantasy series is one of my childhood favorite games. Having played this exact one back on PS2, it is so refreshing to see better graphics with the same good story.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2553501758

With a help of a mod, I was able to experience the game in its original Japanese language which I preferred, due to some changes in the story. We all know Tidus, if not, this story is about a young man named Tidus, he is a well-known blitzball player. One day, as he playing a match, something destroyed the arena, along with Zanarkand city. A man named Auron guided him out of the place after telling him a creature named 'Sin' is what destroyed the city. Tidus later wakes up in a different place, alone, trying to survive. He will meet people in his journey, all been telling him there is no city called Zanarkand anymore because Sin destroyed it a thousand years ago. Not believing in this, Tidus kept on venturing and promised to show his new friends his own city.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2554047845

The new graphics are phenomenal and the music is still out of this world, final fantasy music is always the best when Nobuo Uematsu is the composer. He is the Beethoven of video games music.

I loved everything in this game except for the damn temple puzzles. they are very difficult and tedious. The bosses and fights are fun except for someone who you need to fight three times! And the last boss of course. I liked the characters development in this game, you grow to love them, I didn't dislike any of them.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2554033637

Pros:
+Good story.
+Good voiceovers. (With a Japanese mod)
+Interesting and likable characters.
+Outstanding soundtracks.
+Good game length.
+Steam achievements.

Cons:
-No cutscenes skip (If you die against one of the bosses, you'll have to watch the whole cutscene over and over again)
-Tedious repetitive puzzles in the temples.

When you purchase the remaster edition, it includes X and X-2. I'm not very keen on playing the second game as the story is totally different than the first one. I'm not a fan of it, even back in the day, however, X game is worth playing. I recommend it to RPG lovers.

Zitat:

FFX is my entry to the genre of JRPGs. As I grew, I became interested in this genre and started to like it's world, characters, and turn-based combat. Maaaan, did I make the right choice! FFX will need a mod for a more refined experience (japanese voice, fullscreen and such), I never tried it without the mod. I was absolutely in love with the story, the characters, easy to understand gameplay, linear progression. The music is out of this world, it will rejuvenate your soul to such levels, you may not be able to conceive. You will definitely need a few guides for completing this game, but not to worry, because there is always a way around a seemingly hard boss. Sometimes you will have to grind overdrives, get a certain item, etc. All these may feel like working hours at first, but the atmosphere, the whole game make up for your troubles, and will reward you quite handsomely as well. The satisfaction is just incredible when you find out the boss' weak point. I cannot recommend this game enough. A beautiful, magical, transcendental experience it is. 10/10.

The last game of the turn based FF era. By far one of the greatest stories ever told. The story of Jecht, Tidus, Sin & Auron etc is so complex and delivered so well. I beat this game on PS2 when it was new, the remaster is amazing. It looks great and plays great also. If you only ever played one FF game this should be it.

played this game originally on my mothers ps2 as she played this when i was 3 years old and my current age. classic jrpg, great story. not going to lie, it has alot of feels to it for the main story plot. secret bosses are super hard. still grinding on those...and blitzball is just the absolute worse but highly rewarding for one of the best weapons in the game

Not a fan of X-2 (style, soundtrack, gameplay, etc etc) so this is solely a FFX review.

FFX is a must-play for anyone who wants to experience one of the greatest video game stories ever told. Even if it hasn't aged the greatest in terms of polish (dialogue speedup is a weird one), its definitely one of the greatest games in it's genre.

Gameplay is your typical JRPG, with completely turn based combat. No Active battles here. And the leveling system in the Sphere Grid makes replayability almost infinite. And then there's the absolutely insane endgame challenges and hidden bosses, like the Dark Aeons and Arena battles. I found a way to replay the game with a completely scrambled Sphere Grid and it's been refreshing and challenging to change my playstyle and learn to adapt.

The story is a wonderfully packaged roller coaster of emotions and your attachment to each character makes the twists and turns so unique. Most of the supporting characters are very one dimensional until they start trusting you, one of which doesn't say anything until a crucial moment. Subtlety plays a big role in the surprises, and if it's been spoiled for you I'm so sorry you won't get to experience it the same.

Yeah, it's convoluted on the surface, but there's so much detail and development as you play that you're bound to miss something. This is one of those games that really shows it's structure the second time through, when every little hint and nudge practically glows!

One of my personal favourite games and a behemoth in its genre, this is definitely worth playing at LEAST once, even if you fast forward all the combat. (did I mention there's a fast forward button?!)

One of my favorite games ever made. It's one of the more linear Final Fantasy games but it has one of the best stories and the characters are well written. Also, this game has an incredible soundtrack.
X-2, the sequel, I found to be a bit unnecessary. It's a great game but its a huge detachment from the first.
Ignore the unnecessary hate this collection gets and try it for yourself. It's by far one of the best RPGs out there and has aged brilliantly.

A great classic. Although, I'm not supremely impressed with the remaster, as there can be a lot of graphical issues that need correction to play and see all the cutscenes. It does play well once corrected, and they did add it some nice bonus QoL features to gameplay such as speeding up battles / less encounters, etc. But overall, this game still stands the test of time and another great classic from the Final Fantasy franchise.

Got the original back on PS2 and loved it, ran through the game multiple times. So when I had the chance to grab my favorite Final Fantasy on PC, I grabbed it.

Still recommend this to anyone who enjoys jrpgs, or a great story. I will say this towards the end of the game a couple of cutscenes turned to a green screen. I could still pause the game, and hear the music and voices. Sometimes the game would pop back in and sometimes it wouldn't until the scene was over. Other than that I enojyed the game all over again.

Haven't tried FFX-2 yet.

I really loved this entry in the Final Fantasy games. It's story is good if you ignore how dumb Tidus is. The remasters speed modifier made grinding easier and honestly, I had no shame in using it at all. However, towards about the 50 hour mark and dying to Dark Yojimbo about 10 times I just felt no need to keep playing as of right now. The sphere grid is by no means something that you can complete quickly, but if you love the game enough to 100% it be my guest. I could see myself in the future finish it up, but right now I have no need to keep playing.

When you get to the end, just fight the boss. It's harder that way. If you do all the side content and everything else first you'll one-shot pretty much every boss at the end.

None the less, a great entry into the series and a game that is worth it's price tag.

This is my 2nd run for FFX and I beat the hidden boss finally.
I have to say FFX has a really amazing plot and touches my heart even there is lack of consistency in later game.
There is a well designed battle system. I can beat enemies easily if I choose a proper strategy.
Some of the mini games need not only skills but also fortune.
But, the hidden boss takes me so many hours. I cant escape the cages, capturing monsters and building weapons. During the boring process, what I can have some fun is the BLITZBALL!

I highly recommend this game for those people who want a Japanese RPG.

One of the most impressive 'Final Fantasy'

 • Review with Platinum (100% Achievement)

To be honest, Final Fantasy X is one of my forever loved game. Although Final Fantasy X-2 and The Last Mission are the poor extended stories, the original one is still worth all the way.

Final Fantasy X
This is the first part of X-series where set in Spira world. It offers classic strategy-turn base as previous Final Fantasy series. Players will get into the story of Tidus, ex-player of Zanarkand Abes along with his fantastic adventure. Besides classic battle interfaces and flexible team customizations, mini-games such as Chocobo racing and blitz ball were well-designed. Original soundtracks, 'To Zanarkand' and 'Suteki Da Ne' will be long in your memory. As the crazy stats of FF-series, achievements are not that hard and can be finished in single walk-through.

Final Fantasy X-2
It is really hard to tell that this sequel story necessary to follow. The after-story is so common as it completely ended in previous part. Main characters from the prequel, Yuna collaborated with her girl group in the missions of new airship called Celsius. Though the new combat function, dress-changing makes this game better; it is not good enough to expand its first success. Moreover, mini-games and its achievements such as Gunner's Gauntlet and Sphere Breaker can either be fun or annoyed in the same time.

The Last Mission
The last part is all about mini-game in tower-grinding and girls' relationship. Yuna and her team from X-2 back here again to finish their last mission through the high tower. There is nothing except annoying tower mission, which is too hard somehow.

* It can be concluded that even you want to play only the first part, this ported version is recommended for everyone who are fans and non-fans of FF-series.

My favorite Final Fantasy game. If you haven't ever played a Final Fantasy game, this is a great one to start with. It's got a very interesting and beautiful story in both X and X-2. X-2 got a lot of hate but I truly don't see why, it's a great game and switches up the pace after X. The remastered is good, I haven't experienced any bugs or glitches like some other reviews have suggested myself. The remastered including content from the international release when it first came out which has a lot of extra boss battles and such. Worth it 100% at full price but definitely get it if on sale.

Constant crashes with no fix in sight. Been years now. Looked everywhere for a fix, and it seems to be fairly common. Extremely upsetting and disappointing.

IF YOU HAVE AN NVIDIA CARD, HERE IS HOW TO FIX RANDOM CRASHES:

1. Install nVidia Control Panel (Search online for it)
2. Open nVidia Control Panel
3. Navigate to 'Manage 3D Settings'
4. In the drop down menu under 'Program Settings' select Final Fantasy X, X2, etc.
5. Change each to specifically use your GPU - the issue seems to be that the game will default to your onboard/integrated graphics. It is possible you may only need to change one, as sometimes the rest will also automatically change.
6. Restart. Should run just fine now. It did for me, at least.

Personally my favourite Final Fantasy game. I have played this game on PS2, PC and Switch now and love almost everything about it. I don't even mind the awkwardness of Tidus.

Unfortunately I'm a completionist, and this game punishes you for that with the worlds worst mini games ever created (Just be warned). Things like Chocobo Chaser and Thunder Plain lightning dodge are almost game breaking elements that needlessly waist time on over complicated luck based mini games. But they can be skipped if you are a sane person.

Anyway still love this game.

This review is for FFX only, not FFX-2.
Final Fantasy X is one of the best games I've ever played. I've pretty much bought this game over and over again for every re-release. First experienced it in 2012, I play it once a year now as a personal tradition of mine you can say.
At first it seems like your average JRPG of a huge monster wreaking havoc on the world, but it turns that into a more complex tale. It's a really powerful story of a group of characters who have to question their beliefs as they discover and face the truth of their politically corrupted world.
Tidus is known for being one of the most annoying characters in the FF series, but he's my personal favorite for his story and his character growth. The other playable characters are also great, with their own personal conflicts that lends into how great the story is.
Battle system is is easy as it gets for an RPG, no complicated system. Though some boss battles can be absolutely brutal if you don't watch yourself (like the boss at the top of Mt. Gagazet. What a pain.}
The soundtrack? AMAZING. The composers of this game did a great job creating music that matches whatever's happening on screen. Music can get you feeling pumped, or feeling down. Kudos to them, for real.
This game is like no other. I may be over-hyping this but when it really comes down to it, it's a solid game that's worth a purchase. You won't be disappointed!

Final Fantasy X is probably the best final fantasy of the 3d era to date also one of the best to get into the franchise, it has taken the loved turn based combat system of early games and turned it into a fine gameplay experience. I really dont miss worldmap since there is amazing and beautiful areas to explore.

What i like:
* Turn based Combat just like old style FF games.
* Awesome fixed camera angles with amazing pre render backgrounds.
* music- one of the best in the series.
* Sphere grid is alot of fun and you can develop characters as you please.
* One of the best stories told so far in the FF series.
* Tons of hours of gameplay.
* build in cheats for those who just want to experience the story and skip the grind.( grind is part of the game for some people).

What i don´t like :

*Silly dialogue
*Too much grind if you want 100% competition
that´s all.

Overall i give this game a 10/10 is truly a master piece and amazing even after almost 20 years!!!!. Fun fact: Japanese ranked FFX as the best installment in the series as of today.

Play FFX to get stuff in FFX-2 right.
But keep in mind that FFX story becomes semi-good only at the very end of the game.
FFX-2 story is very lighthearted, fun, and not mandatory at all except several events.

So, yeah, Play FFX-2 and have fun instead of playing FFX and learning about some tonberry ap tricks.

Just started playing FF X this year.

To be honest, I didn't really like the intro and Tidus' character at first, but I guess that's what kept me going.
I love the character developments, I grow fond of Tidus and Yuna. No, the whole team's chemistry and story is great. They are precious.

I love the grinding the most. The battle system, the tag team, the in-battle interactions, unlocking the sphere grids step by step. Fricking hate blitzball at first but it turned out to be enjoyable.

The only downside was, I found the dialogues and voice acting to be awkward. But only at some points! Not really a big deal considering the game was released almost 20 years ago.

Going to continue playing with heartfelt excitement.

TL;DR
A classic masterpiece. The music, visual, and mechanic is gold. I'm glad that I'm able to experience this game.

P.S
Maechen ASMR does exist, guys.

Nice FF 10 game from FF series that remake for PC.
It's nice to have extra function for increase game speed + extra power (hp/mp/overdrive regen) + control monster spawn. This helps a lot for game play to make it faster to level up characters.

It's pretty linear, but the characterization and twists of the story are pretty great. The graphics hold up too!
The chocobo race and one certain temple are a pain in the ass though.

The Second best game I ever played and the best Turn Based RPG game of all time imo. Its still not perfect tho with some design issues in the minigames and the grinding for max stats is too much and repetetive but its epic Story, Music, Character and Monster design stiil gets it a 10/10 for me. If you dont play it you miss out on a epic journey...
The Review is made to Final Fantasy X not including X-2 wich is a shit game imo and not worth playing but only for the first one its worth buying this!!!

FFX is the first Final Fantasy I've played besides XIV and I am disappointed it's taken me this long to finally delve into the single player games. First off, the combat in this game is superb and really makes me change my mind about turn based combat. I was always against it and never found it too interesting, but FFX changes my view on it as a whole. It is intuitive and exciting, each character plays a certain role with the end goal being victory. You can mix and match different synergies and strategies, and can build each character to be a powerhouse on their own. Building your character through the expansive sphere grid is great, you can follow the route that was obviously intended or make a mix and create hybrid classes. FFX also features a robust crafting system, that can change the way your character can be played. For example, I had Rikku go down Yunas grid and focus more on magic spells with magic spheres I had from playing I was able to build her as a great WHM/Rogue hybrid. Then I found a weapon that allows her to cast half cost spells, along with holy Rikku quickly became one of the strongest magic users on my team. The main key to this game is its story and characters, and they really do live up to the hype. The story isn't too mindblowing on its own, pretty easy to follow with some nice twists and turns but the characters steal the show. Each character has their own personality, and you really grow to love them as you go on your pilgrimage. The character development makes the story that much more worth it, and allows the ending to be tear inducing. Besides the main story, their is plenty of side and post game content to complete. Whether it be chocobo racing, butterfly catching, and the one and only blitzball there is plenty to do here. After you're through the post game involves of getting celestial weapons, collecting all animas, the monster arena, if you want you can play this game for hundreds of hours and still have stuff to do. One last note, is the soundtrack is probably the best in any game, it compliments the emotions of scenes so well and the battle track is something I will never grow tired of. Don't make the same mistake I did of waiting so long to play this game, it is an emotional rollercoster and some of the best damn jrpg experiences you can have. This is my story.

I bought these when I was 20 years old originally and played through them to 100% completion. So when I heard they were re-releasing them in HD I had to check it out. 17 years later these games still hold up in 2020!

The added features help to keep the game moving for those that have seen the content to move on quicker and I LOVE the re-arranged BGM. Well done Square-Enix, well done! <3

The JRPGs like Final Fantasy X are the ones to do that to you: to jolt something deep within you, to make you blush and smile, to well up a tear, to make you laugh and play at the same time. No need to feel bashful or hide behind a filter of irony or camp: this is a classic, pure and true.

Final Fantasy's leap to the 6th Generation. I'm just reviewing X. FFX, even today is a technical marvel. While releasing so early in the PS2's lifespan, it visually outclassed all but MGS and Silent Hill. SE has finally provided a rerelease of a FF worthy of store shelves, albeit with one potential deal breaker. But first I should recommend you install Project X, which gives you QOL improvements like cutscene/gameplay fastforward, and the ability to install its texture upres that finishes what SE didn't upres in this remaster. I'd also recommend C3Anderson's texture mods, which are very nice and remain lore and artstyle friendly, which I'm a huge stickler for.

The port is alright. I ran into only 2 crashes in my 64 hours and the autosave feature made them painless. It features most of what you could ask for in options, but don't expect a Croteam options. With X and X-2 we are finally free of that irritating SE launcher as well. This remaster was almost perfect, if not for what happened to some of the characters' faces. FFX had extremely impressive facial animations, that have aged quite well to this day, but somehow it seems Tidus and Yuna's faces have been remodeled, due to loss of some of the game's data. The new models are stiff and lack the fidelity of the original game, but with a decent texture mod they can be made workable, but it's impossible to fully restore the original faces' models. So keep that in mind before you purchase. Emulation is always an option.

As for the game itself, FFX is a huge step forward from the PS1 trilogy technically and in basic gameplay. The battle system has gone from the FF staple ATB system to fully turn based. While I had nothing against the ATB system, a lot of QOL improvements happened to come along for the ride. Party members can be swapped mid battle, not even costing a turn. Equipment can also be changed mid battle. Summons, or Aeons in X's case are no longer just flashy looking spells that do big damage, but are controllable and require strategy to employ.

The Expert Sphere Grid (which this Remaster has available) is a godsend, that gives players much more freedom to experiment. Enemies have been retooled, now requiring the player to employ specific strategies to dispatch them effectively. Braindead random battles are no more, you gotta pay attention or encounters will be trouble. If you don't use Rikku against machina, let Wakka handle flying enemies, let Tidus take on quick foes, or have Auron fight armored opponents, you'll just eat damage like Thanksgiving dinner. Debuffs are necessary for many fights, not just a mechanic you remember during bosses.

Expect a noticeable increase in difficulty from previous games. You should be fine even if you suck, there are tools (like Yojimbo) at your disposal to make this game easier on yourself. While the added challenge makes battles more enjoyable to play, this is a double edged sword. Enemies have very high amounts of HP, making battles very long, and the random encounters are frequent as well. A lot of story heavy bosses can be the more challenging ones, while Project X can provide a fast forward for cutscenes, there is no true cutscene skipping, so you'll be subjected to some serious cutscene rewatching on some of the tougher bosses. There was one boss I straight up one shotted with Yojimbo because I thought the challenge simply wasn't worth the time spent rewatching cutscenes. This has been a persistent problem since FFIV all the way to the 10th game, and even in the Remaster 15 years post release, it hasn't been fixed. The tedious waiting spoils what should be a decent challenge.

As neat as the ability to alter the stats and teach moves to your aeons is, and being able to customize gear, both in my experience require a significant amount of farming. As for the Cloisters of Trials, I could hardly stomach going through them, and they broke the pace of the game. I don't find carrying orbs that Tidus can't hold in both of his hands back and forth very interesting. The big minigame this time, Blitzball, as expected, is a good idea turned into a poorly explained nightmare to actually play. What could have played like a turned based volleyball game (you know, in a turn based game, a format familiar to the player or Hell, just play like Dead or Alive Xtreme) is taught to you 2 hours before you even get to play it in a massive info dump, that has weird RNG elements, and entirely new stats and abilities in play. Luckily after the story related game, it's entirely optional, but required to get Wakka's best Overdrives.

The music is as awesome as you'd expect from a Final Fantasy, but the story leaves a lot to be desired. Tidus's voice direction and behavior makes him a difficult character to like. He also isn't very original, blending elements of Zidane's personality with some of Squall's backstory. He at least is a flawed person which is more than you can say for Yuna, who is essentially just a flawless goddess of a person, who lacks any grit to her character. She has being pigeon-holed by her father in common with Tidus, but I couldn't find the chemistry between the two. The two leads don't really influence one another like you would see in FFVIII or IX. Kimahri is our obligatory turd character that every FF needs at least one of, and for the most part he never speaks which I'm not sure who decided would make his character good. Rikku has a cute and entertaining basic personality, but her character doesn't bring much to the game (beside her tight bod) and she's lazily shoehorned back into plot nearly half way through the game.

The rest of the party fares quite better. Lulu and Wakka have a well written dysfunctional relationship. They bicker and argue all the time, but they are unified by their shared grief, seem inseparable, and privately share what they are thinking to one another constantly. Auron's voice direction and character is pretty well handled, even if we set aside his ridiculously badass design. While Auron is stern, he has a gentle inflection that signals his concern, and a vibe that a young idealism in him has been quashed by life long ago.

Our antagonists are once again interesting personalities on the surface with a ton of screen presence and charisma, that overall feel underdeveloped. Seymour becomes largely irrelevant 60% through the story, exits the story for a while with little fanfare after committing a genocide everyone in the game forgets to care about, then shows up again at the 11th hour to simply offer us another boss fight. Jecht is much better, and becomes endearing over the course of the game, but I usually prefer an antagonist that isn't so distant from the main cast and the player, and gets a healthy amount of screentime.

A simple introspective journey to defeat Sin suffers from a dull ending due to dry utilitarian dialogue and plot twists sucking out the drama from what is otherwise a decent conclusion for Tidus and Jecht and some spiffy well directed FMVs. Maybe the amount of overly epic bosses at the end could be trimmed down to one really good boss so the story doesn't have to jump through hoops to justify them all.

FFX admittedly has a lot of faults, especially in the story and character department. But FFX is a video game first and foremost, and the huge improvements to the battle system, a comfy trek across the world, along with great music and visuals still make it shine as a worthy entry in the long running series.

This game was a part of my childhood, a fond part, so forgive me for my rose coloured glasses. I have played this game many a time in my years so I would definitely recommend it. As far as story goes, it's really good. I laughed, I cringed (yea you know the part), and I cried. The main character might leave a bit to be desired but it wasn't enough to make the game unplayable for me. The battle system is a bit different from previous Final Fantasies in that you can switch out characters mid fight to suit your needs. Or just say, Hellooooo Nurse and keep all the ladies in the party regardless. With the international additions you have a bit more customization options so it makes it easier to leave party members you don't like in their dark and dismal corner of sadness where they belong. Ahem, anyway.

Now on to X-2: Highly under rated I think. It's story may be a bit lacking, but don't take it too seriously and just have fun with it. The dressphere mechanic is quite enjoyable, so even if the story is a little too girl's night out for you then just think of all the ways to be a badass with some Sailor Moon fanservice. Really though, I didn't think the story was that bad, but I am a girl, so sue me. It had many quirky lines that had me chortling out loud. With the international portion added to this version you can capture creatures and have them battle with you, or for you. Yes. My chocobo is a beast, and I loved it. Definitely worth a playthrough, or 2 or 3 as there is so much to miss.

Last Mission... yea, um, while I recommend you get this game and Last Mission just happens to come with it, I don't recommend playing this part of it. Unless you like endless grinding and praying to the RNG gods endlessly and still getting daddy's belt. The game punishes you for playing it. The so called story it added is just minor cutscenes that you might be better off just YouTubing and save yourself the hassle, if you even care that much.

TL;DR: Yes, get this game, play it multiple times. Just don't bother with Last Mission, you're welcome. <3

Yes. The game is just top tier. I rented it once on ps2 from blockbuster, then bought it. Then when the remastered came out on ps3, i bought it. When this one came out i had to buy it again. This is one of those gem old school games that everyone should atleast give one playthrough a try. Too many people now a days are just playing whatever fast pace battle royale out. But take some time and just chill and play an RPG like this one.
I played 1-2 playthroughs on the PC version with no issues, this remake/export is pretty good. If you hit Esc you can activate some cheats like more random encounters, increase game speed, or even give yourself all items in the game. However, I believe that using these corrupts the game file to where you crash from time to time. My first playthroughs i didnt know about the cheats so i never used them, also never had any crashes. Now that I use them, even if its just once, i think it corrupts the file. I do not know for sure, I have only just recently been having issues but beware of that.
This week it has been half off, honestly even at full price this game is worth it. I'd suggest playing this before the graphics become too old looking for some, there have been games i wanted to play but if they are too wack looking its hard to get into, this might become one of those in time.
