Das Spiel an sich ist sicher sehr gut. Nur schade, dass es mit Windows 10 wenn überhaupt nur mit enormem Aufwand spielbar ist.

Ende 2008 kam Fallout 3 raus, schon krass wie lange das doch her ist wenn man so überlegt.
Ich habe es durchgezockt gehabt und mega gefeiert ( Zu dem Zeitpunkt nur auf CD gehabt und nicht auf Steam).
Nur sehr beeindruckend was sich in den letzten 12 Jahren nochmal an der Grafik und dem Gameplay getan hat.
Fallout 3 und 4 sind Top Teile gewesen. Über Fallout 76 wollen wir mal nicht drüber reden..

Dies war das erste Spiel das ich von dieser Game-Reihe gezockt habe und ich muss sagen ich war schlicht und weg begeistert. Diese große frei erkundbare Welt, die fast unendlichen Möglichkeiten und die Gefahr hinter jeder Ecke machten dies zu einem unvergesslichen Erlebnis. Einziges Manko war der recht kurze Storymode und die teilweisen Aussetzer aufgrund der angeblich nicht kompatiblen Windows Version. Trotzallem freue ich mich schon auf den nächsten Teil! ^-^

Fallout 3 war mein erstes Fallout ich kann das spiel nur empfehen zwar gibt es einpaar fehler die man bei der Steam version beheben muss zb Deutsche Audio Datein und die Fallout.ini bisschen umschreiben damit es auf einen neueren Prozessor mit mehr als 1 Kern funktioniert und auf Windows 10 natürlich weil das Spiel für Windows XP entwickelt wurde. Anfangs scheint das Spiel kompliziert zu wirken aber das ist es nicht nach paar Stunden gewöhnt man sich dran ;)

Feels very bad leaving a negative review for a game I love so much, but I have to do it. The PC version of this game is unacceptable. I can't even launch it, even after the patch that was supposed to fix the game. Very disappointing, and honestly a genuine scam.

Great game, more dlcs and more details than new vegas. I think new vegas is better but fallout 3 has less bugs thanks to the new update and the game includes player voice lines up to only 1.

Game is great of course but don't buy, its a major pain in the hole trying to get everything working and even then there is still a lot of issues like mods not working/steam overlay and other services not working.

editing this message so it fits in with valves godly practices, of course don't buy this game anywhere else because that would be heresy. You would be committing genetic fraud against your parents if you don't buy from steam. Steam is god on steam. All hail steam.

I will definitely buy all my games from steam because i love the extra homework steam gives me, steam saw a teachable moment and steam took it. Its so good to be a member of steam. Mmmmmmm steam.

Oh man this game is so much worth coming back to since they fixed that Microsoft live or whatever it's called from making Fallout 3 so much harder to play. I might honestly like this one more than Fallout New Vegas (Don't kill me please).

I was able to run this game on Windows 10, the game unexpectedly closed itself about four times so far during my time of playing it (just make sure to keep saving the game so you don't lose your progress when this happens) and couldn't do alt tab but however I didn't have any problems starting the game up and I didn't have to do extra steps to get it running. I enjoyed the game very much and I'm looking forward to playing more of it. :)

Fallout 3 is just incredible.
In terms of story (no spoilers) its amazing. It like every other fallout game has its highs and lows but for the most part its able to keep the players attention. The characters in game all have good lines sometimes they seem a bit forced.

The weapons are pretty good however the amount of ammo around is quite low, so you might end up running out of ammo early on in the game and forced to use a less advanced fighting style. With that being said it makes the moments when you have a large amount of ammo more satisfying.

Overall 7/10 Not as good as New Vegas but still incredible the factions aren't as flushed out as NV but I like the map more

Within the first ten hours of playing this game I shot someone, got a critical hit, the camera zoomed in on my bullet as it made a left turn and shot off into the sky, the person I shot up exploded into a million bits and all the other enemies disappeared. My soul ascended in that second. 10/10 must play.

Better than Fallout 4. No bullshit getting power armour in the first 30 minutes. here you have to earn it with 30+ hours gameplay then train to use it then...maybe they will let you play with the big guns as well. And at that point you can decimate a family of Deathclaws...in Fallout 4 you can do that in half an hour...for free.

Fallout 3 your dad Liam Neeson) has run off to get some crazy scheme finished that he should have done 20 years earlier (Was too busy spewing out movies I guess) and you are hot on his trail doing the usual 1200 side quests in between. The world has turned to shit, everyone wants to kill and eat you and creepy crawlies got a whole lot bigger.

But it's fun..ugly..but fun and you have to earn your crap not get given it like a Millenial crybaby wants it now and doesn't want to pay for it. Exploration is useful as you find odd little places with interesting quests and there are other vaults all with different agendas or in one vault's case...Gary's...lots and lots of Gary's.

GOTY edition is far more superior and it only costs a bit more.

Pros:
-There's a lot of stuff to do.
-Fun.
-U can blow up a city.
-U can sell people to slavery.
-Amazing atmosphere.
-Fun quests.
-Big open world which u can explore.

Cons:
-Poor gunplay.
-Game does not work on windows 10. (can be fixed)
-Only counts time when launcher is kept on, does not count time when u are actually playing the game itself.
-Lots of bugs (it's a Bethesda game so what did u expect), the worst one I keep experiencing is when I alt tab, I cant alt tab back in and the only way to fix that is to restart the game, I lost many minutes to this bug.
-Does NOT let u continue playing after you beat the main story, u must have a dlc called broken steel play after u beaten it.

I was only able to play this game on an old windows 7 PC that could not even run it properly.
even after the patch that says it adds windows 10 support it will crash when starting up.
i guess it's a good game but don't buy if you have windows 10

EDIT: i have got it working and it is quite easy but i still will not recommend the game. it is good but until the devs make it run properly without third party fixes i will not recommend it.

BEthesda is unable to fix this game to run uder Windows 10. It crashes when you start a new game. It is a shame that such a big game studio cannot maintain its past games. I will consider this whenever purchasing new game from this studio.

Installed it before the patch and got the mods needed. Once the patch update came I uninstalled and reinstalled it like it said to do, now the game won't open.

This game is good, but not worth the hassle to set up, had to download mods to even get the game to start correctly and not crash on startup. Valve or Bethesda need to fix this bc someone who dosent have any tech know-how is just going to waste $10 on a game they cant even boot

Why even bother selling the game if it irreparably and immediately crashes on launch and- even after following various guides- is completely unfixable unless you're running Windows XP on a mall kiosk from 1997?

I loved this game when I played it on xbox. I wish it worked on a version of Windows more recent than Hurricane Katrina.

A POST APOCALYPTICAL MASTERPIECE

I played this game in 2008, before the great depression. I didn't get far. I was hungry, radiated and I was poor. Everything killed me easily. I could barely hurt anybody. I took all the bad decisions story-wise. I went back and forth and I lost some save games with gameplay time.

A month ago, in 2021, I replayed Fallout 3.

I'm rich, level 11, 8000 caps, dozens of powerful weapons, high health +200 stimpacks on storage, following the main quest to the letter, also doing side quests, I take EVERYTHING I see and trade for stuff, money, AND MORE STIMPACKS.

I can kill everything. Nothing can kill me. I've being radiated and cured. I've seen the end of the world and came unscathed at the other side.

I remember a dream I had when I was afraid. Now it's the monsters of the Wastelands the ones who fear me.

9.5/10 - Survive the Apocalypse.

Do not buy this game at the present time. It won't even open under Windows 10, and gives you the electronic finger if you try to run it under emulation. I last played it a couple of months ago, and although buggy, it did run. Something has broken recently, and the publisher doesn't seem to give a damn. They just go on trying to sell it.

This is one of the best open world games I have played. There is so much content - the Side-Quests are all unique: I'm Eight hours in and I've only done around 7 Steps in the main quest and explored around 33% of the map. There are only two downsides I can see:
- This game is that it is not optimised for Windows 10 - but that is an easy fix (it takes around 7 mins).
- Fallout New Vegas is 1000x better

Just finished the game and I can easily say that the game itself is amazing, but the constant crashes ruins the fun a lot...

It says that the game is not optimized for Win. 7 or newer. But this isn't an indie company who made this. They should easily patch this together so it actually works.

Overall the game itself gets a 8.5/10, but with the constant bugs and 100s of crashes I'm reviewing this negative.
Sorry, but it's true and painful how bad the Bethesta games are at fixing simple things that would make their games so much better...

The objectively best 3d fallout game (based on the objective metric of number of sales).
Open and unrestricted 3d world that lets you decide the direction at all times.
Fun unobtrusive quests and characters who won't drown you in drama any chance they get.
Satisfying leveling, you get a perk every level.
Must also remember that the people that made this game ALSO made the engine, they didn't just borrow a pre-made engine. So the opinions and views expressed in this game are those of very skilled engineers.
All around great game, Bethesda is one of the few true computer game companies.

No matter how good the game might be. It's not worth the trouble of going through all of the work arounds to make it work on pc. Sure there are a lot of guides that tell you how to make it work, but that doesn't mean that they will work for you. In the end, it's just not worth the trouble.

Fallout 3 is a great game. It is also all but unplayable. I will never understand how Bethesda managed to get away with selling this game for real adult money.

The first and most obvious problem is the Windows 10 incompatibility issue. You'll have to do some Googling to figure out what the exact problem is, and then you'll have to download a .zip file from God knows where to fix it. Understandable - the game is old, after all. But don't ignore the warning that says it's not optimized for Windows 7 +. It's not.

The worst bug by far is the fact that the game freezes ALL the time. In the past half an hour of playing, it has frozen three times. Alt + F4, you say. Nope. You'll have to restart your whole PC just to get the game to quit. It will freeze when you're walking around. When you're in combat. When you're standing still, doing absolutely nothing. You never know!

Other miscellaneous bugs include sudden death, buttons that can't be pushed when you REALLY need them to work, weapons firing automatically with no way to make them stop, and many, many more.

Do yourself a favor: pray Bethesda remakes this game, because it deserves a remake. But you don't deserve to suffer through this disaster as it currently stands, so don't play this unless you have nostalgia for the series and have recently read up on new and improved cuss words.

I found the secret! Go to Download82 on Google and download the Games for Windows Live link they offer there. The original link provided by Microsoft DOES NOT WORK but this one DOES. After weeks of researching and trial and error, this is what finally allowed me to play. Just install GFWL off of Download82 and roam the Capital Wasteland with Liam Neeson. AD VICTORIAM, BROTHERS.

While this is a good game, I'm afraid I cannot recommend it. The fact Bethesda can't be bothered to maybe re-release this game for later versions of Windows so people can actually PLAY THE GAME, without having to download mods to get it to work, irks me immensely. Refunded the game, gave this game a VERY fair chance even though i was aware of the other reviews shitting about the hoops you have to go through to make this game work. Even after downloading inumerous patches and fixes for every possible issue i could face, the game would ALWAYS crash after clicking on start new game.
I downloaded the needed fix to make the game work after starting a new game, but it didnt work as well. Don't get me wrong, this game is good, fallout 3 walked so new vegas could run but FOR FUCKS SAKE BETHESDA, GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER AND FIX THIS GODDAMN GAME.

Great story and game play. HOWEVER, there are complications that are concerning in towards the game and the company/developers, the game is not supported for newer devices (unless you download a mod) and it hasn't been updated for a while now, giving the players, not the developers, the motivation to actually make this game playable in current time.

Fallout 3 is one of the best WRPGs of all time, but do not buy the Steam version.

It ran fine on my old system, but Fallout 3 requires Games for Windows Live, which is now unsupported and undownloadable software just to run. Neither Steam or Bethesda will put the work in to fix the game which shouldn't even be on the store front since it can't even run on modern systems without serious workarounds.

Unless you fell like the challenge to get this game to run, then avoid at all cost since this is essentially a bricked product.

IMO best fallout game, but that may be because its the first one i played. The moment you go into Springvale Elementary is unforgettable with all the creepy ambiance and corpses strewn about. Also, Liam Neeson.

(i have more time on this game than it says, it just doesnt track it because it crashes alot) I think this game is enjoyable, but from the perspective of someone who has played fallout: new vegas and 1 & 2, this game is very lacking in terms of story. Additionally, many gameplay aspects were overhauled and improved in NV. whenever I play this game, i just wish i was playing new vegas. additionally, this game is not optimized to work on windows 7+ whereas new vegas works from the get go.

TLDR: Love the game, but it doesn't work.

Fallout 3 is my favorite Fallout game. It's important to keep this in mind. Because of my love for the game, I did put in the effort and time to make this playable on PC. It was not easy, and I'll tell you why.

This game is not optimized for modern computers. With some luck, it might launch. If it does not launch, you can fix the issue simple enough in about 5 minutes. Once the game is (seemingly) playable, you will quickly find that your troubles have only begun. The crashing. They were often enough that autosaves were too far apart to help me. I did some more research, I discovered there are a few mods to help with this. I installed them, and while they did help, they only prevented about 50% of the crashes.

I then discovered that some of the game script needed to be adjusted to run on cpu's that use more than one core. Okay, done. I hoped everything had been solved at this point, at least 2 hours into making this game run. Unfortunately, no. Once again, the crashes were fewer and far between, but they still happened. At least every hour or so. After 50-some hours of playing my favorite Fallout game, I had enough. I guess this is something I'll have to enjoy on console when I fancy returning to it again.

Fallout 3 was my first game of the series. It will forever remain as my favorite and I will forever love it. I just wish that you didn't have to mod files to get it to properly run on pc. Great game though.

Okay so I've only had this game on Steam since today but don't listen to everyone saying don't buy since it wont run on Windows 10 since thats false the fix is simple as hell and explained in a 3 minute video which I have been kind enough to link for y'all I think taking 5 minutes to get the game to run is worth it considering there is hundreds of hours you csn put into each save

BUY GAME OF THE YEAR EDITION

Fallout 3 as a game is good, however, buy the GOTY edition. The DLC adds so much to the game, and [spoiler] the ending sucks without the Broken Steel DLC. [/spoiler]

Better off buying the GOG version, this port is a shítshow, I tried every possible solution, patches, installing GFWL, using a GFWL disabler, running as administrator, running on Windows XP SP 2 compatibility mode, each and everything.

This was one of my favorite games until Windows 10 hit and the game wont even start on this platform. Why the f*ck hasn't a game that is still being sold by Steam not been patch to atleast function on current computers?

I truly love this game, but I hate the way its been neglected on the Steam platform. As it stands right now, and as much as it pains me, I can't recommend anyone buying this game.

This game really needs patched.

You can't even start the game on Windows 7, 8, and 10 without running in compatibility mode with admin privleges, installing Games for Windows Marketplace and patching in a file yourself, and even then it crashes randomly in game.

Basically, in order to play the game, you need Windows XP or Vista, both of which were dropped years ago.

I really enjoyed my experience through the wasteland, It has some atmosphere feeling that I'd wish RAGE have. My only big take is that the 2nd half of the campaign just didn't hold strong as the 1st one.

What a loaded content for just a 6GB file size.

With Fallout 3 being one of my favorite games of all time, I have spent HOURS trying to get this to work on Windows 10 to no avail. I have only found one solution.

THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT STEP!

i have 75 hours on steam, and a further 60 hours on xbox 360, i played this when i was 14 for 4 months straight any chance i could, amazing game. 21 now and will be playing through for a 4th time

It is a good game it brings back memories. I love all the fallout to play this game on any pc all you have to do is follow these steps.
1) Right click on the game it should show manage
2) Hover over manage you will see where it says browse local files click on it.
3) It will show files click on the file that says fallout launcher right click on it and then click on properties.
4) click on compatibility, click on the box underneath compatibility mode.
5) Once you click on the box right below it and it will show windows 95 and so on click on windows vista version.
6) click on run this program as administrator box after that click on apply.
7) download or update windows games live you dont have to sign in but either way after you do that then you can go to setting in the game to choose your graphics and it will play the game with no problems. It has took me a long time and my game has never crashed or messed up on me ever sense and i would like to share it thats why you dont feel like you wasted money on the game. Great series but this title suffers from the same issue that prevents us from playing New Vegas: bugs and crashes.

Bethesda should really remaster Fallout 1,2,3 and New Vegas...

I would recommend getting the GOTY edition.

My first Fallout game, and still my favorite. The game has a great story with memorable characters, great gameplay, and LIAM NEESON AS YOUR DAD. In 2020, it may be difficult to run on modern hardware, so I'd recommend playing this in New Vegas with the Tale of Two Wastelands mod, as it's much more stable.

First, a warning: THIS VERSION WILL NOT RUN WITHOUT MODS. The game uses an outdated and non-functioning DRM that makes it incompatible with Windows 7 and later. There are user-made fixes for the game.

Summary: Still a great RPG, though it is becoming dated and requires some fixes to run. I consider it an essential game. And you get to have Liam Neeson for a dad.

Fallout 3 is an amazing game, but it is eclipsed by its far-better successor, New Vegas. The theme of the game is, like all Fallout games, a world after a nuclear war, where humanity survived in underground vaults, and the world is irradiated and life has mutated. The content is not as cheerful as the Vault Boy mascot would imply - it is a world of both bleak, mature themes, and quirky dark sense of humor.

The story follows your character in pursuit of your father, a scientist who has left the vault. Now exiled from the only home you knew, you have to make your way through the wasteland of Washington DC. It's a decent story, but the real fun is the open world and all of the endless side quests.

The DC Wasteland is an interesting setting, especially exploring the remains of historic places, but navigation is very frustrating at times. There are areas where entire areas of the city block your movement, and I wasn't really satisfied with how to travel around and under them. This is in contrast with the more open world of New Vegas. That is honestly my biggest problem with the game - I hate actually exploring it, while I love exploring it at the same time.

Another issue I have is with followers. You may gain the help of a NPC who follows you and helps you in combat, but if you follow the main story, you might miss out on them. They are an optional, and missable part of the experience for most of the game.

Finally, I strongly recommend you have Broken Steel installed before you finish the game, because otherwise the game will end.

Also, mod the hell of out this game, even if its your first time playing.

Honestly, great game. It might not be as good as New Vegas but I can assure you that it's fun. Just find some good side quests as well as the main one and you should enjoy yourself.

The fact that Bethesda never patched the game and it still doesn't work even if you try to follow all of the procedures to make it work on your PC , it sometimes still doesn't even work.
A black screen then it the game just randomly stops everytime.
I can't even play the game that first introduced me to the Fallout Franchise , what a shame.

This port of Fallout 3 still has Games for Windows Live built into it. The game WILL NOT LAUNCH, DO NOT BUY ON HERE!!!!
Otherwise go buy the gog copy, at least they bugfix for you before you buy the game.

Played 170+ hour playthrough of FO4:VR and thought I'd give FO3 a try. Did not disappoint. All the wasteland goodness. Using VorpX for a full VR experience as well. Would recommend in either form!

I've actually played closer to 50 hours but its a good fucking game. It looks great for a 12 year old game, has no more bugs than one would expect from a bethesda game, and is lots of fun to play. Highly reccomended.

The steam version is not optimised for Windows 10 so don't even bother, biggest waste of money. Go get it off GOG instead where they optimise it perfectly for you and it runs like a charm. Really a shame on Steam's part and I was super disappointed when my favourite Fallout wouldn't work on PC.

Would not recommend it; honestly the game doesn't even run on Windows 10 even if you follow Bethesdas guide. The only way the game will run is if you highly mod it, so you're practically buying a defective product that you have to fix yourself.

Amazing game. I played this game for the first time last week, and I've already played Fallout 4 before. Besides missing a few select mechanics, I prefer the overall story and experience of this game. It's tougher, more gruesome, creative, and rewards the player for exploring [spoiler] with perks, magazines, and bobbleheads. [/spoiler] I highly recommend! Off I go to start New Vegas!

Also a word of advice: I got a problem of the game always crashing on startup! To fix, update Games For Windows Live! (Believe me, I didn't want to, but it works)

currently the worst pc port i've ever had to experience. i get that it's old, and it isn't supported on newer hardware, but bethesda could've atleast released some patches to make their game PLAYABLE. I've installed countless patches to get the game working on Windows 10. All went well. Game Ran well. then the game starts crashing 5 mins into gameplay. i've tried everything to try fix it. have yet to fix it. If you're looking to play Fallout 3, just purchase New Vegas and get the Tales of Two Wastelands mod.
