With that being said, if you loved the 1st game, don't expect more of the same. If you didn't enjoy it much and rather concentrate on the action this is the game for you.

So to start..let’s talk about what’s missing I guess. For starters the incredible AI you fought in F.E.A.R. and it’s expansions are now gone, instead you fight ai that is rather dumb and basic and to make up for their lack of smarts, the devs thought it’d be fun to make them aimbots and capable of shooting through walls as well as be able to instantly kill you in 1 go. Seriously never at any point did fighting the ai in this game ever feel like a fun challenge or at times even fair. Nothing is more annoying than turning a corner only to instantly get killed in 1 shot by a shotgun guard or a random sniper. The aimbot gets so bad that enemies can LITERALLY KILL YOU IN A SINGLE SHOT FROM ACROSS THE LEVEL WITH A SHOTGUN.
So adding onto this, I’ll talk about the ruined health system. In F.E.A.R. 1 and the expansions health was similar to something like Quake where as you had health and an armor meter and both worked in tandem with each other in the sense that armor helped mitigate some damage. The system works great as it means you survive longer and playing well rewards you, and you could carry up to 10 medkits. In F.E.A.R 2 they’ve ruined this system by only allowing you to carry 3 medkits and using one instantly heals you fully, this is futile considering the 1 shot kills I mentioned above and the health is drained in seconds. But you may think the armor helps with this right? Well no. The armor in this game fully fills an armor meter and the idea is that the armor system follows the one seen in GoldenEye where damage taken depletes the armor meter before then going to your health meter. The problem is that not only does this effectively lower the skill floor, it also doesn’t matter considering lots of enemies seem to ignore armor and pierce through to your health anyway, making it pointless. Really bad change here.
The other downgrade and probably the one that bothers me the most is the fact that tactical leaning, aka the defining feature of the combat of F.E.A.R. 1 outside of the ai is gone. This completely ruins the entire combat imo because now you have so many less options in combat and it lowers the skill amount. The lean was such a fundamental aspect of F.E.A.R. 1 so the decision to remove it here is baffling. Adding onto this the weapons are also very weak, even the shotgun which you’d think is one of the strongest just feels really awkward to use and sometimes seems like it does as much damage as throwing a rock at the enemies. Oh yeah and they replaced the zoom feature with ADS because every game has to have Aim Down Sights in the 7th gen, stupid choice. So the weapons suck, the lack of leaning makes things too streamlined as does the change of health and armor and the enemy ai is bad..so what part of the combat is good? Well..you can carry 4 weapons now instead of just 3..I guess that’s good? It doesn’t make up for everything that’s lost though.
So another aspect this game disappoints me is the enemies. Lots of enemy types are just recycled from the original game and expansions but some are new here. The only enemies worth noting are the pyros and some weird ghostly enemy. The pyros have to go for the most annoying enemies as they take a lot of abuse and use a flamethrower weapon that has insane reach and a big hitbox. What’s annoying is if it at all connects you will be set on fire and you get dealt damage over time, this effectively means you have to sit there and your health drains no matter what you do. The smart thing to do would’ve been to have medkits stop the burning but that doesn’t occur, making them the most frustrating encounter but thankfully they’re uncommon. The other one is the ghostly enemy and this is an enemy that essentially spawns a bunch of enemies and seemingly when killed it revives itself. It takes a lot of abuse and after a lot they go down, but it’s annoying that they take so many hits to begin with.
Once again we must talk about something that sucks, that being the level design. Levels are very bland looking and linear. Sure there’s more variety than F.E.A.R. 1 perhaps as F.E.A.R. and the expansions often just took place in buildings and offices. But what made them great was each level was handcrafted to be especially designed for the outstanding AI to cut you off at many angles and for them to come up with strategies and give you flexibility on approaching situations. In F.E.A.R. 2 this is not the case, often levels boil down to enemies busting in and getting cheap shots at you while you twiddle your thumbs and sit behind badly made cover to try and fight back because leaning is gone. Oh yeah..you can topple some objects to make cover but it’s a useless feature as the cover never goes high enough to protect most of your body so the enemies still can just headshot you anyway. So yeah a useless mechanic and levels that force you to just use slow mo all the time to get anywhere is a recipe for disaster when combined with everything else.
Another thing I feel is lacking is the horror element. F.E.A.R. 1 and the expansions did horror really well by having it usually segregated into its own segments or having it be very subtle and very intense. It was effective and kept you on edge. F.E.A.R. 2 meanwhile tries to be scary by just throwing jumpscare after jumpscare or by going so over the top you’d think you were watching some bad movie adaptation. Seriously the horror element just has me groaning my eyes here instead of having me feeling tense and even sometimes frightened. I mean when a game is called F.E.A.R. you expect to..you know..feel fear, but you don’t here. Oh and the way this game uses Alma and trivializes her, ruins her character and mystique.
On the note of Alma, let’s discuss the story and characters. So you don’t play as the Pointman or even the Sgt. from Perseus Mandate. Instead you play as someone named Beckitt who is a soldier in a task force that I honestly can’t remember the name of. You are joined by a bunch of other crew members who are all generic and just become cannon fodder, with the one exception being Keira Stokes who is the only one worth talking about. Keira is with you often throughout the story and being voiced by Jen Taylor, she has a personality and is energetic, seriously she’s the only character who kept me at all engaged in the story of this game. So anyway the whole story just revolves around stopping Alma the ghost girl and of course she ends up killing plenty of allies and stalking the player. Remember when I said this game ruins her mystique and creepiness? Yeah well they dump a crap ton of information about her on you that basically solves any questions you’d have about her and it becomes a typical we must destroy evil creature that can’t be contained type of story. Seriously the story is awful, F.E.A.R. 1 and it’s expansions didn’t have expansive stories but at least they were simple and made sense and kept you intrigued. A bad story that ruins it's iconic character
So Lastly I want to mention that the game’s visuals in ways are a downgrade to the original game. Many visual effects like bullet holes in walls, lighting and special effects are just plain missing or severely dumbed down. The game itself doesn’t look too bad, but the downgrades are a disappointment. F.E.A.R. 1 is more appealing to the eye imo.
So yeah in all brutal honesty, this game sucks and is an insult to the F.E.A.R. franchise. I went into it knowing it wouldn’t be quite as good but holy heck I wasn’t expecting it to suck this bad. While it’s still better than garbage like COD, it’s still consolized mediocrity. Oh and the DLC: Reborn, isn’t much better, it sucks too.
My Final Rating is a 5/10

People think F.E.A.R 3 is the worst but that's really not true. I'd say F.3.A.R is the worst F.E.A.R game, but F.E.A.R 2 is the worst game in the F.E.A.R franchise.
Here's my ranking of the FEAR games:
#1: F.E.A.R 1
#2: Extraction Point
#3: F.3.A.R
#4: F.E.A.R 2 Reborn
#5: Perseus Mandate
#6: F.E.A.R 2

Positive
- Better Graphics
- Better Music/Sound
- Better Flashlight (It is always on)
- Introduces other characters that you fight Alma with
- Way better cutscenes
- Better story (It's a continuation from the first game so you MUST play that one first) The first game was kind of confusing to be honest. All the way up to the end until they do the reveal of the characters in the game.
Negatives
- Not as scary: It was still scary but the first game was a little more mysterious and subtle with the jump scares and other scary bits. This game kind of throws it in your face. It becomes more of a thriller then a horror game tbh.
Overall - Great game and I would buy it on sale. It's a little too expensive to buy all the games for over 50 dollars. The first and second game each took about 5 hours each. Not sure about the third one as I'm playing that next.

That being said, I'd still wager that Project Origin is worth one's time if they wish to do so. Taken on its own merits, its a very component and well made shooter with a stiff challenge, inventive visuals and an interesting plot. Not all games could live up to the first and this one doesn't but there's still fun to be had here. Plus at least it isn't F.3.A.R.

I played Project Origin on Linux using Valve’s Proton. It never crashed on me. I did notice one bug where when you first launch the game you are unable to move the character with the mouse until you Alt-tab out of the game and then go back in, after that the mouse worked fine. I am not sure if this was a Proton issue or if it happens on Windows as well. The sequel got rid of manual saves in favour of strictly using checkpoint saves which I thought was a poor choice. Alt-tab worked. There was 2 AA settings; 6 AF settings; a V-Sync toggle; an AO toggle; and 15 other graphics options to tweak. The game ran fantastic with no drops anywhere near 60 FPS or below. You can change the difficulty settings at any time.
Graphics Engine: LithTech Jupiter EX
Game Version Played: 1.05
Save System: Auto
Disk Space Used: 12.44 GB
Graphics Settings: 4x FSAA; 16x AF; motion blur off; AO on; V-Sync on; 1920x1080
GPU Usage: 22-88 %
VRAM Usage: 1414-1712 MB
CPU Usage: 7-20 %
RAM Usage: 4.4-5.3 GB
Frame Rate: 88-144 FPS
Overall I came away happy with Project Origin. It improved upon the original in some ways and made it worse in others but was never anything less than a great game in it’s own right. I finished the game in 7 hours and 40 minutes which felt like a good length. I paid $49.99 for the game on release and it’s still worth that in my eyes.
My Score: 8.5/10

however...FEAR2 is absolutly to it's left over state on PC (however, bug fixes wise it's stable!), while fixing the FOV was quite easy, you will need to download files for fixing mouse being over sensitive, or even how your desktop can be inaccessible if you change resolution, but the most outrageous problems comes from not being able to bind your mouse side buttons, meanwhile FEAR 1 CAN DO THAT!
You will have to install third parties programs just for that game (if you want a better experience that is), while monolith studios could have simply fixed it under no time, that was a problem when it came out, it's still a problem now.
As for the game writting, don't expect anything from it, fear 1 was already badly written but this one takes it further badly wich is a shame for the gameplay is prelly fun, just expect a brain dead shooter and forget about being engaged in the main plot or the characters;
just have fun shooting shit, it the good part...if you enjoy dumbed down FPS that reeks console ported to PC
Despite this sequel being a dissapointement in some points, would have still recommended it if it was working correctly, after all these years

The Definition of a Mixed Game
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is a massive downgrade from the first game. Not only is the gunplay worse, but the audio mixing is awful, the lighting is a step-down, and the characters are really generic. Along with this, F.E.A.R. 2 tries even harder than the first game to be scary. Yet, much like the previous entry, it fails to be even remotely spooky. However, even though F.E.A.R. 2 is an awful sequel, it still manages to be a fairly enjoyable linear shooter. Furthermore, even though the bullet-time isn't as useful as it was in the original, it at least makes the gameplay a little bit more unique. When it comes down to it, F.E.A.R. 2 is a hard game to recommend; there are too many things holding it back. However, if you are looking for a linear shooter that takes a few hours to beat, then it might be worth checking it out.

The story stays consistent with familiar callbacks to the first game, expands on concepts both old and new, connects gaps between story points fluidly, and generally has good pacing. Also, I hate Genevieve Aristide. However her name is spelled. +points to FEAR 2 for continuing her legacy of being a pompous scheming cunt.
A minor pet peeve of mine is that they replaced the voicemail and laptop voiceovers with text-based objects to help flesh out the world. I preferred to hear the things explained to me in the first game, without having to pause a read. Not a big deal though.
I could not get attached to any of the characters in FEAR 2 except Jankowski Jr., and even then, it was kind of skimp. The fates of these characters felt kind of meaningless to me because Becket (The player character) has no real clear relationship with any of them. However, this isn't all that important either, because if you've played FEAR 1 - you know that companions of the player character tend not to have very long lifespans. I was really starting to like Holiday from FEAR 1 only to see him brutally murdered in the expansion. When you see that kind of thing in FEAR 2...it just doesn't mean as much.
They re-used some of the sounds from FEAR 1. That's always great.
BLOOD. BLOOD EVERYWHERE. GORE. THE GAME IS SATURATED IN RED. Just like the original. Fantastic.
The real strong point of this game, just like FEAR 1, is the fluid combat, varied weapons, and awesome incorporation and function of the slow-mo ability. The combat in FEAR 2 is just as good, if not slightly better.
Certain weapons feel better, some feel worse. The shotgun in FEAR 2, which was my best friend in FEAR 1, is still my best friend. However, it doesn't sound or feel nearly as potent as the first game. Still, it turns people into mist sometimes, so that's cool.
On the flip side, the penetrator feels a lot chunkier and beefier, just like a full auto military grade nail driver should.
They removed dual wielded pistols. I like this for realism. I dislike this because the AT-14s were fun. Eh.
The AI is still pretty smart, though their dialogue isn't as prominent. Listening in on their commands to one another isn't as useful as it used to be. The level design, I found, has them flanking a lot less than in the first game. HOWEVER, they have this ability that I both love and hate, where it's often not clear when you've wiped out the whole squad and you're safe to explore and loot the previous fight-zone. There's always one more bastard hiding behind a trash can in FEAR 2. Look out.
The level design was pretty good. Hospitals are always freaky. So are schools. My only gripe is one of the last areas where if you died, you had to wait for these slow moving lifts to come down before you could get back to where you where.
Which leads me to my biggest gripe about FEAR 2.
WHY THE HELL DID YOU GET RID OF MANUAL AND QUICKSAVING?
Yea yea save scumming, but when you play on Hard, you care less. Some things I don't want to repeat 20 times. I also liked having control of when and where I saved. Maybe some people like knowing that the nanny game will take care of saving for them. Not me. The GAME DOESN'T KNOW WHEN I WANT TO SAVE. ONLY I DO. JEEZSH.
Oh, yeah, and they got rid of leaning around corners, because Becket's spine is welded.
I don't want to talk about the ending to this game. What the hell.
Anyway, in summary, you'll enjoy most of the game, and... you'll definitely have some thoughts about the ending. Go get 'em.

You're like free pizza at an anime convention. She can smell you. And she wants to consume you
If you were expecting a direct continuation of the original F.E.A.R's story in F.E.A.R. 2, then like me you'll be disappointed at first but luckily the sequel presents itself with a very interesting opening chapter. This game begins where the original game left off in Monolith's timeline, or rather 30 minutes before the end of the first game. Thankfully, many of the questions that crop up do get answered this time around (also bringing some new ones). FEAR 2 was the first game in the series to be designed for consoles first instead of developed for the PC and later ported to consoles, and it shows in some ways which I'll discuss down below.
Pros
+More varied level design than in F.E.A.R. The environments feel fresh and every level has something unique. Combat is fast, fluid and less repetitive than its predecessor. Slow-motion works flawlessly like it’s supposed to!
+The developers did a fine job with environmental design. It expands beyond warehouses and offices and adds some open spaces. There’s a slightly more diverse color pallet, lot more detail and higher resolution textures and backgrounds. So yeah, FEAR 2 has a bit more modern look and feel like a Call of Duty game at the time.
+The addition of new enemy types is a nice welcome. Throughout the game you’ll fight replica soldiers from the first game, robots and new enemy types such as zombie-like feral creatures, ghosts and spirits.
+In-game Atmosphere - not as scary as the original, but solid. Some places kept me on edge especially the level at the Elementary School. Also, if you think there wasn’t enough of Alma in the first game then you’ll surely be pleased with Fear 2!
+There’s enough number of weapons to choose from. In most cases you’ll often end up using Assault and Submachine Riffles because they’re littered up everywhere! Shotguns are powerful and meaty too. You could also switch from fire modes as you!
+The focus on story was refreshing…. Alma is a well written character and you’re going to witness very interesting things going forward. There are lots of hints and flashbacks foreshadowing Alma’s origins. You’ll be thrown at great looking action set pieces and WTF moments. Your squad have lot more to do in the plot but sadly due to the game’s short length there’s not a lot of room for character development.
+Voice acting, dialog, writing, music, animation was satisfactory and did the job.
Cons
-A big let down in regards to overall gameplay experience. Lacks the intense environmental destruction from the first game. Bullet impacts no longer leave dense clouds of smoke in the air, tearing chunks off walls and particle effects have been muted. Movement also felt clunky especially running.
-Scares were very cheap and predictable for a horror game. Scare factor was almost non-existent aside from the first time you encounter a zombie. Fear 2 Lacked the tense atmosphere, lighting and sound design from the original that tried really hard to get under your skin!
-It's is genuinely creepy at times. Yet some of the horror tricks aren't as effective as they used to be, partly because they're familiar. Worse, now Alma spams you with quick time events. (And you shove her off by repeatedly clicking right mouse button, lol!!).
-Mech, Tank battles were fun however it just felt a bit off seeing these in a FEAR game. The action-rock music while fighting in tanks gave it a cheesy feel.
-Dumbed down console port. No manual saving, no in-game option to change FOV, you can’t lean while shooting at targets and very ugly HUD design.
-Generic silent protagonist with no personality or essence to the story even though you've got a name this time and assume the role of Sgt. Michael Becket from the Special Forces.
-F.E.A.R 2 is too short in my opinion. I finished the main game in around 6 hours or so and I'm a very slow player in general. Expansion packs for the first F.E.A.R alone took me almost 20 hours to finish.
-Awful number of invisible walls.
-Although the enemy A.I isn’t changed in theory the enemy encounters make it seem a very dumbed down and easier game and, in some cases, it is! This can be attributed due to the way levels were designed in Fear 2 as opposed to the original FEAR and its standalone expansions.
-Although the graphics are good and acceptable for a 11-year-old game, the HUD just needs to go, or at least be disabled through an option. It reminded me of Deus Ex Invisible War which was another awful sequel to a great PC game.
-I found the ending to be very anti-climactic and dumb. I’m still speechless…. God it really sucked! That’s just my personal opinion and yours might hopefully differ from mine.
-Multiplayer is dead.
-No Steam achievement, trading cards, Steam cloud or any other perks.
FINAL THOUGHTS
It’s a good shooter, bordering on great at times, but it’s doesn’t live up to its predecessor. If you were expecting a direct continuation of the 2005’s original story in F.E.A.R. 2, then like me you’ll probably be disappointed. However, F.E.A.R. 2 certainly boosted in the story department. The fact that the horror aspect was boosted with the story does make the game more appealing in that regard. Monolith has crafted a solid follow-up to F.E.A.R. It’s one of the few older horror FPS games still worth checking out, despite losing some of what made the first game so great.

so far so good, not impressed with the removal of the lean feature, i went from having what felt like a tactical corner clearing badass game to....Call of duty?? sort of.
I understand FEAR 2 falls into the realm of when these types of games were big, but they seriosuyl dumbed down the entire gameplay. The replaced with alot of new-age mechanics no one asked for, (team mate nonsense)
The only saving grace so far is that they were VERY dedicated to the story of the original.
So im going to give this game a 4/10 so far. It obviously has some massive shoes to fill with FEAR being its preddeccesor, but its almost like this game didnt even try....

The difficulty isn't that bad, I do think that normal is a balanced difficulty, but if you're looking for a decent challenge, try playing it on hard.
The story wasn't that good in my opinion. I thought the controls were alright and I didn't need to remap any buttons. The one thing i thought was cool is that you can slow down time, it kinda reminds me of bullet time from Max Payne. As for the horror elements, well I don't think it's that scary.
It's a decent game that I think is well worth the price so I can recommend it to others who like fps games with a little horror added to them.

Information / Review English
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is a first person shooter developed by Monolith.
Gameplay / Story
In this game you are Michael Beckett, but this time you do not belong to the eponymous special unit F.E.A.R., but to Dark Signal, a subgroup of the Delta Force, a special unit of the US Army. His team is sent on a search for Genevieve Aristide, the incumbent president of the Armacham Technology Corporation, in order to evacuate her due to the current events. Aristide herself determined the meeting point in her private apartment, where she hides behind a shelf in a secret laboratory. After a few fights against the ATC, you learn from Aristide that you and the rest of the Delta Force team are the only ones who can stop Alma Wade. However, during the conversation the world blurs into an illusion and you follow the leading Alma to a window when suddenly the explosion takes place at the end of the first F.E.A.R.-part and you pass out. You go to a hospital and get treatment. When you wake up you are alone and have to work your way back to your team. Meanwhile you learn that the team is part of the Paragon project. A sub-project of the Harbinger project, in which experienced soldiers with telepathic skills are to control the replicants. Your goal is: to destroy Alma for good.
Paragon project
In this project, experienced soldiers are observed and their affinity to supernatural is categorized. The goal is to find experienced soldiers who have a high affinity in connection with a certain level of intelligence and to bring them into the Harbinger project.
Harbinger project
The project in which almost the entire Dark Signal team should be involved. The main focus here is on their supernatural affinity, which should be developed. The goal is that the soldiers can control the replicants in the same way as Paxton Fettel, with the difference that they do not get out of control in the same way or are controlled by Alma.
Pro
+ well told story
+ groovy action
+ excellent soundscape
+ clever AI
+ decent scope
+ good graphics
Contra
- inconsistent coverage system
- harmless shock moments
- low profile hero
- disappointingly staged, playfully overpowering slow motion
Conclusion
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin offers you a well-designed, very classic shooter, but has little to offer in terms of horror.

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin ist ein Ego-Shooter, welcher von Monolith entwickelt wurde.
Gameplay / Story
Pro
+ gut erzählte Geschichte
+ fetzige Action
+ hervorragende Soundkulisse
+ clevere KI
+ ordentlicher Umfang
+ gute Grafik
Kontra
- inkonsequentes Deckungssystem
- harmlose Schockmomente
- profilarmer Held
- enttäuschend inszenierte, spielerisch übermächtige Zeitlupe
Fazit
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin bietet dir einen gut designten, sehr klassischer Shooter, allerdings was den Grusel angeht, nur wenig vorweisen kann.

In my opinion, It is a very clean made game. Throughout my play-through, I've never encountered a thing that it shouldn't be there. I think being super linear helps a lot in that case. Gameplay is pretty much shoot and kill then enter the next level - enemy spawn there and do the same. The AI's movement felt generic making them easy to read. I've only died 2 times (Excluding those failed grenade attempt) throughout the campaign in Normal mode. I can't say otherwise on other difficulty but it was an easy course game.
The story doesn't really give a lot until it finally became clear by reading through massive hundred journals scattered around the game. It sometimes wasn't fun reading those but at least it picked up half the game that it makes me intrigue and engage with what's happening. I've never actually played the first one and this one make me want to check it to see what I've been missing.
Overall experience is a big thing for me and sadly this just gave me a flat one. I knew horror is one of the main theme of this game, but I've never felt that. Jumpscape doesn't really bothers me specially with no consequences unlike Dead Space where those who freak you, can actually kill you and that makes it more terrifying. I just wish this game have that.

-no leaning
-no manual save
-enemies are not challenging
-not scary at all for a horror game
-bad movement especially running
pros:
+powered armor was cool i guess
overall not a bad game but it feels dumbed down after playing the first one, devs really fell for the console meme and the game reflects that in every aspect

Although the biggest reason why i dislike it is probably because it feels like im running around a mission for like 1 hour killing mobs just to get one piece of dialogue. the infofiles are cool but it just feels like a lot of exposition

Introduction
What is F.E.A.R 2? What is the story? What timeline do the events take place in? All of it will be mentioned here but before we begin I will give you a warning
WARNING: This review is written keeping in mind you have played F.E.A.R 1 and you're following the series in a chronological order if you haven't played F.E.A.R 1 don't read this review play F.E.A.R 1 first there is no point in playing F.E.A.R 2 without playing F.E.A.R, Read my review for F.E.A.R here , Now lets get back to the introduction.
F.E.A.R 2 takes place some time during the events of F.E.A.R 1, Yes you heard me right the events of both games take place simultaneously, The story of F.E.A.R 2 takes place through the eyes of a new protagonist called Sgt.Becket we are a part of the FEAR team and are a part of a different squad from that in FEAR 1, we are deployed to secure an Armacham scientist who can help us destroy the threat that armacham poses (in simple words she knows how to defeat Alma).
If you have played FEAR 1 you know Alma has been released from her containment and that's where FEAR 2's story comes in I guess that is enough for introduction because anything furhter I say will be a spoiler and I want to keep this review spoiler free.
Gameplay
FEAR 2 is basically almost the same as FEAR 1, you have the same weapon slots same slow-mo ability the only addition in the game is the Mech robot however since FEAR offered a GREAT gameplay I don't think its a big deal if they didnt add anything more than a robot in the sequel
You can use the same combat abilities you did back in FEAR and you'll have to improvise a lot in order to win battles against your enemies, no weapon is overpowered in this game the weapons are very well balanced and you have to use your intelligence and out of the box thinking sometimes to outsmart the enemy AI.
Each enemy has resistance or weakness to a certain weapon type so you have to figure that out too it is always a good idea to keep your weapon slots versatile to counter any future enemy threats, The AI in this game is also brilliant its not stupid enough to rush towards you and die the enemies will try to flush you out of your hiding spot and coordinate well with their team they also use different tactics every time the unpredictability is a plus point from me because it makes the game unique every time you play.
The music in this game is mostly recycled from F.E.A.R and I don't mind that since the music composed for F.E.A.R was one of the best I've heard in a video game in a long time I'll rank it among the likes of Half-Life and Portal it really adds a lot to the game, Sometimes the music in this game gives me an adrenaline rush and that alone is enough to make me go berserk and rain hell on my enemies I even forget this is a horror game I feel like I am the horror, In simple words 10/10 for that.
Modding / Addons
Although I didn't use any mods throughout my playthrough of FEAR 2 but before writing the review I searched if there are any mods for this game, I didn't find many mods so I guess it is safe to assume the modding community never really took off and there aren't a lot of mods out there but again I don't judge a game by lack or abundance of mods anyway so you won't hear me talking negatively about this game, I just added this section for those people who like modding their game
Other
In this section I'll list basically everything I can that you might wanna know so here goes,
- The game has a realistic physics engine, It doesn't feel like you're playing a game instead more of a real life combat simulation which is another plus point from me
- Graphics are really amazing and surprisingly I could run this game on my really bad laptop with Intel's Integrated HD Graphics with more than 60 Frames/second and that too at High preset
- The game automatically detects the best options for your rig and optimizes itself to run on your pc
- The game's ambience is also amazing whether you're in a sewer or a rooftop it doesn't cease to amaze you, I'm a huge admirer of ambience in video games so it was a big deal for me the developers nailed it
Problems/Issues
In this section I'll list the issue(s) I had with the game and the aspects that I didn't like
TL;DR
+ Amazing Graphics
+ Auto-detect / Optimization for your hardware
+ Realistic physics engine
+Great soundtracks
+ Great gameplay
+ Variety of weapons
+ Great ambience
+ Great AI
+ Balanced weapons
- Requires a patch to fix mouse problem for many computers and the developers aren't bothered to fix it
- No option to save game, Only auto save
- The game has deviated from its roots, in other words FEAR 2 is a great game on its own but ITS NOT A GREAT FEAR GAME
Final Verdict
The game isn't that bad as people say even though I agree it doesn't do justice to FEAR but still FEAR 2 on its own is a great game and I had fun playing through it, I got the complete pack for like $14 and so far I believe it was worth it I definitely recommend this game ONLY ON SALE
Overall rating: 7.5/10
Verdict: Yes it is worth buying

Despite its shallowness the shooting feels good enough to sustain its 8 hour campaign, and the graphics still hold up after 10 years, for the most part; especially during the horror segments.

A few things this game does better than the first one:
-you can carry now 4 weapons instead of 3
-more variation in the levels
-presentation, cut scenes, characters, etc.
-bullet sponge enemies aren't that often appearing
-the gameplay feels more fluid
-great ending
What is worse:
-no quick saves
-you can only carry 3 health packs instead of 10
-no health booster
-in the base game it's kinda hard to tell how much your armor and your health are damaged, they fixed that in the (super short) DLC though
-Fettel is barely in the game, I think he only appears in the DLC
Neutral:
Fear 2 is way easier than the first game
Overall Fear 2 is a more polished but also simplified version of Fear 1. I enjoy Fear 2 a bit more, but I really like both.

At the end of the day it's just a bland shooter with no inspiration that felt like it was thrown together to get something out the door by the intern they usually sent to get coffee. Literally the only thing I'll remember about this game is the waste of time it felt like slogging through something more bland than oatmeal and water.

Visually the game is quite impressive, and the audio work and voice acting is well done. The game itself is a pretty linear FPS experience with the usual combination of shooting and spooky moments.
However the game is nowhere near as brutal and dark as the original. That's not to say it's a bad game, but it does start to feel a bit repetitive towards the end and sadly the gunplay is also quite weak when compared to F1. Also the AI have been downgraded by quite a bit and will rarely give you any hard challenges.
Then there is the story. If F1 left you scratching your head, then this will just make the scratching worse. The writer must have been smoking something special when he came up with this series...
All in all a decent enough effort, but one that never really get's the pulse racing in the same way as the original.

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin
The moment I got a PS3 I went out and bought F.E.A.R. 2. Although I was only 13-14 at the time, I found certain parts of the game to be scary and the combat to be enjoyable. I was addicted to FPSs at the time of playing this over 10 years ago, so I was easily sucked into the combat aspect. F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin holds up for the most part based on my memories of it from 10+ years ago...
STORY
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin starts right before F.E.A.R.'s ending occurs. It involves another team going in to retrieve Armacham's Genevieve Aristide in attempt to interrogate her regarding all of the events from the first game. This story goes way deeper into Alma's situation, why she is what she is, and why all of the events throughout this series have been happening. This game introduces a new team of allies, as well as some new interesting villains. I found the story in F.E.A.R. 2 to be fairly more enjoyable than the first F.E.A.R. and its two expansions, Extraction Point & Perseus Mandate. What I found more enjoyable about this game than the others in the series is that the storytelling was consistent, rather than ever so slowly feeding you details. Another plus is that this game gives bonus bits through the data logs you find lying around the levels.
I found the most entertaining part of the story was when you go to
the elementary school (which to be honest I think was everyone's favorite part of the game). It had the most diversity from the rest of the game, the best scares, and the most interesting bit of side information through data logs
. The most frustrating part of the story was
the introduction of teammates that literally served nothing to the story, when they had the potential to provide more. Snake Fist is a part of this as well. Keegan, Fox & Jankowski are dispersed of without any sort of development in the story. The data logs offer more as they are part of the Harbinger program, but kind of just get killed off with barely any screen time
.
If I had to compare the quality of storytelling to something, I would compare it to the level of a B-tier Call of Duty or Medal of Honor campaign with horror elements vs. war elements.
GAMEPLAY
The gameplay features from the first set of games have changed ever so slightly. You still have slow-mo reflexes at your disposal, but you no longer have the benefit of leaning around corners. You can hold an additional weapon in your inventory (4, up from 3), and there are new types of weapons and grenades at your disposal. In the first game and its expansions I got sick of the gunfighting but I found it to be more enjoyable in this game. There are no true bullet sponges in this game unlike the others, which is nice. The standard weapons (Pistol, SMG, Shotgun, AR, Sniper) felt good to use, more like the FPS games that were coming out at the time. I felt more intrigued by these weapons rather than the same of their type in the first F.E.A.R.
Like the first game, you find reflex boosters that increase your slow-mo meter size. New to this game is the option of collecting data logs hidden throughout the levels that add backstory. I found this way more enjoyable than the voicemail machines and laptop hack information because it adds more information on the past and present.
There are some sections in this game where you can control suits of armor that have minigun and rocket attachments, as well as the option to use thermal vision. These sections were fun because you could just shred some soldiers, or you can blow up other mechs. The thermal vision made these sections very entertaining to explore and destroy anything and everything.
The horror aspects of this game work a lot better this time around as well. The visuals are better and the scares are better. There were good creepy moments in this game and there were a few chapters in particular that introduce new enemies and a new setting that I found to be the height of the game.
SOUND
The voice acting provides a lot more this time around. The teammates have more character to them than the previous teams in the series, which I think makes you care about their fates more. The villains and other supporting characters are fairly entertaining as well.
The music in F.E.A.R. 2 was not nearly as repetitive as the first F.E.A.R. games. I didn't get that feeling that the same track played 10 times during my play through of the story.
GRAPHICS/VISUALS
The graphical upgrade between F.E.A.R. and F.E.A.R. 2 in roughly a 4 year difference is astounding. The character models look loads better. The settings are a lot more detailed (apartment complex, elementary school, city ruins, subway, hospital). The elemental and damage effects look loads better as well. The gore looks less chunky and more on par with a modern horror movie.
OVERALL
I had a good time playing F.E.A.R. 2 again after not touching it for roughly 10 years. I had forgotten how a majority of the story played out, which made for a good re-exploration. There are some good scares to be had, and the combat can be quite fun considering that this is not a AAA FPS. In general, F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is a way more enjoyable experience than F.E.A.R. and its story expansions (Especially Perseus Mandate). I would suggest this game to people looking for an interesting story that has solid FPS mechanics, as well as a few scares inbetween it all. I wouldn't go into the game expecting anything to be spectacular, but if you get the game at a low price, it is worth the play.
Difficulty Played: Normal
Story Length: 8 - 9 Hours
Completionist: Found a majority of the reflex boosters, and only missed 6 of the data logs
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin = 7/10
DLC Expansions
F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn
I walked into this expansion expecting as big of a mess as Perseus Mandate, the expansion from the previous F.E.A.R. game. Luckily I enjoyed myself quite a fair amount. The expansion is very short and overpriced at its standard (I believe original price) $10. There is a tiny chunk of story in here but it does not go far in the slightest. There are 4 missions that are about 15-20 minutes in length each and that is it. There are really no aspects of horror here, just fun combat missions. If you get the F.E.A.R. franchise for a great price, then feel free to try this one, but don't go out of your way to obtain it and play it.
Difficulty Played: Normal
Story Length: 1 - 1.5 Hours
F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn = 5/10
NOTE:
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin does not install properly on Windows 10. I had to move one of the game files from one place to another. Please look at Steam Discussion Board for more details on what to do if you plan on installing on a newer OS.
If you Alt + Tab away from the game and come back, sometimes it just hard crashes and you have to reload. I have had completion of 50% through a level reset on me because of the crash and it was frustrating. Be wary of the potential crash if you need to back away from the game to mess with something in the background.
