Das Spiel ist echt eines der Besten, welche ich je gespielt hab. Aber das einzige, was mir nicht absolut gefällt ist, dass die Osmanen so lächerlich Stark sind und egal in welcher Lage Sie sind immer ultra nervig sind.

ACHTUNG! Es folgt eine etwas längere Rezension über Europa Universalis IV (im Folgenden EU4)

Zusammengefasst: 10/10

Spielprinzip:

In EU4 geht es darum, dass man ein Land am Anfang auswählen kann und man dieses Land über die Zeit kontrollieren muss. Jeder kann sich individuell ein Ziel setzen. Entweder man reißt die Weltherrschaft an sich oder man konzentriert sich auf die Technologie des Landes.
Zudem gibt es auch Dinge, die von der KI gesteuert werden. Viele Sachen sind historisch angelehnt, treffen aber meist nicht auf das Jahr zu. Auch ist die Stabilität des Landes abhängig von den Entscheidungen, die man treffen kann. Je nach Entscheidung kann dies auch einen Rebellenaufstand auslösen, den man dann mit seiner eigenen Armee bekämpfen muss.
Missionen gibt es z.B. auch, diese müssen aber nicht eingehalten werden. Über den Steam-Multiplayer kann man ganz einfach mit Steam-Freunden gemeinsam spielen. Über den Nakama-Crossplay kann man mit Spielern auf anderen Plattformen gemeinsam spielen. Zu wissen ist jedoch, dass immer, wenn ihr fertig seid, diesen Spielstand immer zu speichern und dann NICHT die Partie beenden! So könnt ihr z.B. am nächsten Tag oder in zwei Stunden dort weitermachen, wo ihr aufgehört habt.

Gameplay: 10/10

Hier ist die graphische Umsetzung sehr passend zu dem Ambiente, da man zwischen dem späten Mittelalter bis zur frühen Neuzeit spielen kann. Deswegen wird man auch bei Mitteilungen höflich angesprochen.
Zudem gibt es auch für dieses Spiel zahlreiche Mods, welche man ganz einfach über den Steam Workshop abonnieren kann. Jedoch Vorsicht: Einige Mods benötigen gewisse DLCs und wenn ihr mit Freunden spielt, müsst ihr die gleichen Mods aktiviert haben.
Man kann durch Mods sein Spiel individuell an sich anpassen, es gibt keine Grenzen.
Auch gibt es bestimmte DLCs, worüber ihr hier mehr erfahren könnt.
Bugs gabs bis jetzt bei mir noch nicht, aber natürlich können welche auftreten.

Fazit:

EU4 ist ein echtes Abenteuer. Man kann stundenlang vor dem PC sitzen und immer noch nicht genug haben. Durch die vielen Mods ist die Individualität enorm, sie hat keine Grenzen. Es lohnt sich also, diesem Spiel eine Chance zu geben!

Gameplay:

EU4 is about choosing a country at the beginning and you have to control that country over time. Everyone can set a goal individually. Either one snatches the world domination or one concentrates on the technology of the country.
There are also things that are controlled by the AI. Many things are historically based, but usually do not apply to the year. Also, the stability of the country depends on the decisions you can make. Depending on the decision, this can also trigger a rebel uprising, which you then have to fight with your own army.
There are also missions, for example, but these do not have to be followed. Via Steam multiplayer, you can easily play together with Steam friends. Via the Nakama crossplay, you can play together with players on other platforms. To know is however that always, when you are finished, this score always to save and then NOT end the game! This way, you can pick up where you left off the next day or two hours from now, for example.

Gameplay: 10/10

Here the graphical realization is very fitting to the ambience, as you can play between the late Middle Ages to the early modern times. That's why you're also addressed politely when you receive messages.
There are also numerous mods for this game, which you can easily subscribe to via the Steam Workshop. However, beware: Some mods require certain DLCs and if you play with friends, you must have the same mods activated.
You can customize your game through mods, there are no limits.

I haven't had any bugs yet, but of course they can occur.

Conclusion:

EU4 is a real adventure. You can sit in front of the PC for hours and still not have enough. Due to the many mods, the individuality is enormous, it has no limits. So it's worth giving this game a chance!

Ahoi liebe Leute,

Bestes Global Strategie Game auf den Markt !
Hochkomplex mit langer Einarbeitungszeit/Lernzeit.
Forderndes und Lohnendes Sandbox/Strategie Gameplay, du entscheidest welche Nation du spielst und was dein Ziel sein wird.
Grundspiel ist schon sehr Umfangreich, kann aber erweitert werden durch den Kauf unzähliger DLCs.
Diese Lohnen sich mal mehr und mal weniger, kommt drauf an wie man spielt und was man erwartet/haben möchte.

Ich empfehle das Game uneingeschränkt, allerdings kauft ihr euch es am besten im Sale !

Dieses Spiel ist für alle langzeit Strategiespielenthusaisten das perfekte Spiel. Es enthält so ziemlich alles, was man sich für ein alternativ-zeithistorisches Spiel sich ausdenken kann. Es behandelt militärische, diplomatische Fähigkeiten. Es erwartet von dir dich mit Finanzen und Entwicklung auseinanderzusetzen. Besonders spannend wird das Spiel dadurch, dass man an gesellschaftliche Konventionen, Glaube und Gesellschaft gebunden ist, also wer auf das alles keinen Wert legt, kann sich auf gewisse Mali vorbereiten. Ebenfalls ist es den Entwicklern gut gelungen, das Spiel in verschiedene Epochen einzuteilen, was dem Spiel noch mehr Dynamik verleiht. Kurzgefasst es ist ein top Spiel, das ich bis jetzt seit Jahren weiterempfehle!!!

Ein wundervolles Strategiespiel mit sehr hohem Schwierigkeitsgrad (immer schön), was dutzende Stunden fesseln kann. Egal ob als europäische Kolonialnation, asiatische Horde, afrikanisches Königreich oder indianischer Stamm, das Spiel macht einfach einen verdammten Spaß. Auch schön: Man spielt als Nation und muss sich nicht (wie in Crusader Kings) so sehr auf den Herrscher und seine Dynastie konzentrieren. Leider hat das Spiel ein großes Problem. was bei Paradox Interactive, dem Producer, immer wieder vorkommt: Eine Flutwelle an DLCs, für die man gut und gerne 200+ Euro ausgeben darf. Dafür gibt's auch den Punktabzug, denn egal wie gern man ein Spiel mag, das geht einfach gar nicht. Entweder bringt man größere DLCs mit mehr Inhalt raus oder man muss die DLCs günstiger verkaufen. Aber diese Klage verhallt ungehört, der Vorwurf steht seit Jahren gegen Paradox im Raum, bessert sich aber kaum. Sonst super.

Um es kurz zu formulieren: Dieses Spiel hat meine Ansprüche an Strategiespiele komplett verändert und mein ganzes Spielverhalten umgekrempelt. Die Tiefe, die Europa Universalis IV als Grand-Strategy-Titel bietet, war mir bis zum ersten Kontakt mit diesem Spiel vollkommen unbekannt. Seitdem ich EU IV und andere Paradoxtitel des Grand-Strategy.Genres spiele fühlen sich die meisten anderen Strategietitel flach und leer an.

EU4 ist in vieler Hinsicht ein herausragendes Spiel. Zum einen bietet es die Möglichkeit immer wieder ein neues Spielerlebnis zu generieren, indem man sich immer wieder eine neue Nation aussuchen kann. Ich besitze es bereits über viele Jahre hinweg und bin äußerst Zufrieden. Ich warte auf einen neuen Teil der Reihe...EU5!!

Ich würde das Spiel echt gerne weiterempfehlen, da es echt Spaß macht, jedoch kommt es im Spiel häufig zu Abstürzen, vor allem im Multiplayer, was den Spielspaß teilweise auch wieder nimmt. Zudem ist es nervig, dass wenn man vom Multiplayer- in den Einzelspielermodus wechseln möchte, man das Spiel neustarten muss. Für ein Spiel das schon so lange draußen ist und so viele DLCs hat erwarte ich, dass solche Fehler behoben sind!

I do not recommend this game If you buy this game then you have to buy Lots of DLC if you want to have a good experience The game lives from DLC and just wants your money All these DLC are not worth their price The war system is based on luck in the early game You will sometimes have battles and experiences at the game that are frustrating While other Paradox games are getting proper DLC updates, the existence of this game is only there to pull the money out of the pocket of the hardcore fans The game has no quality And the AI is the worst of all the paradox games When you are at war no matter how many nations are on your side the AI will neglect defending its land just to besiege you that is pathetic and worst of all is the African continent is represented like shit There was an update now where you can play with Aborigines but for years nothing has been done for Africa, the main thing is that we now have Aborigines and even more Indians I used to love the game I was naive

Since I have bought it, I have sacrificed my life and still aren´t finished with my first campaign. I don´t have any DLCs because I didn´t want to spend so much money on one game, but this game is amazing even without those DLCs.

Mit Eu4 hat man schon lange mit Bugs und Expilots zu tun. Aber mit die Updates 1.31 und 1.31.2 schießen den Vogel völlig ab. Das Spiel ist absolut nicht mehr spielbar und nur noch am crashen. Die Entwickler haben für diese Updates genau 2 Gehirnzellen benutzt, weil sie sich den Rest durch den Lack den die alle schnüffeln völlig zerstört haben. Einfach nur sehr fragwürdig wie man für so eine Spiel mit allen DLCs über 200€ verlangt. Alle Lack gesoffen :)

Verstehe nicht warum sie den Patch nicht wenigstens zurückgenommen wird, bis es auch nur teilweise spielbar ist. Nach ca. 100 Jahren im Game stürzt es immer ohne jeden Grund ab. Unspielbar. Vor allem man investiert erst einige Stunden in eine Runde, nur damit es dann umsonst war. Man wird praktisch gezwungen den Patch im dem Early Access Status zu testen damit sie es evtl. irgendwann mal reparieren können. Einfach nur peinlich!!!

- Playing Stellaris for a while.
- Paradox´ new Stellaris patch destroys the game.
- Thinking of playing EU IV instead.
- Dang, Paradox has launched a new Patch for this game as well, but hope dies last...
- Checking latest save games for Vanilla (!!) game, from three weeks ago. Game states that all save games are incompatible and can´t be loaded.
- Thinking of dark places where Paradox can shove the latest patches up.

Seit Jahren spiele ich gerne EU4. Doch die letzten DLCs spiegeln überhaupt nicht mehr eine akzeptable Qualität dar. Diese werden unfertig an die Spieler raus gebracht.
Das letzte DLC (Leviathan) und das dazugehörige Update haben das Spiel unspielbar gemacht.
Es gibt Unmengen an nicht zu übersehbaren Bugs, die bei einer sauberen Qualitätssicherung hätten auffallen müssen. Hier wird immer mehr an der Qualität gespart.

Das Spiel empfehle ich momentan anhand der aktuellen DLC-Politik von PDX und deren Qualität niemanden.

Ich bin enttäuscht! Bisher habe ich jedes DLC zu EU4 gekauft, aber dieses DLC ist der allerletzte Scheiß. Ich werde keine DLCs oder Produkte von Paradox kaufen, bis sie anständigen Content herausbringen. Erst der Launch von Imperator Rome dann das Emperor DLC nach release und jetzt das, irgendwann reicht es. Ich habe zum Zeitpunkt dieser Review 1820 Spielstunden und im derzeitigen zustand kann ich einfach nicht weiter spielen. Wenn Paradox ihr Entwicklungsstudio nicht bald in den Griff bekommt werde ich gar nichts mehr von ihnen kaufen.
Ich habe einfach die Schnauze voll!
Paradox will einfach einen schnellen Profit aus ihren jahrelang loyalen Fans ziehen und dafür sind sie bei mir unten durch

That must have been easily the fastest refund in the history of Steam. Everything has already been said by Leviathan reviewers. Congratz, you have officially ruined the game with 1.31 and Leviathan. A game for which a lot of ppl have already spent hundreds of Euros. Clearly a case for consumer protection.

This DLC breaks the game totally. SP and MP are not playable anymore because of bugs and balance issues.

There was no test before the release and there was no logical thinking about the changes. everything is just broken and unplayable. this DLC killed the game.

Diese Anzahl an DLCs ist eine absolute frechheit, für ein 40€ spiel duzende DLCs die insgesamt über 200€ kosten rauszuhauen ist absolut frech wenn man daran denkt das viele der DLC nicht nur individuelle Länder verbessern sondern auch das spiel grundlegende spiel.
Es ist zwar ein tolles Spiel jedoch noch mehr Geld reinzustecken zu müssen ist einfach ein abturnern leider ist Paradox dafür bekannt DLCs in solcher quantität und solcher wichtigkeit für das Spiel rauszuhauen.
Paradox ist zwar einer der besten Spiele Entwickler wenn es um Strategiespiele geht jedoch ist diese DLC politik die sie führen ein Schlag ins Gesicht.
Ich empfehle dieses Spiel nur für Leute die genug Geld haben die DLCs zu kaufen oder die einen Freund haben die dazu in der Lage sind ansonsten ist es einfach zum Teil nervig mit dem fehlenden DLC Inhalt zu spielen.

Das vermutlich beste Grand Strategy Spiel dass es gibt. Es bildet die Zeit von 1444 bis 1810 ab und lässt einen praktisch jede beliebige Nation spielen die es in dieser Zeit gab (oder potentiell hätte geben können wie z.B. Jerusalem; das wiedererstrakte Byzantinische Kaiserreich oder Yuan). Ein vorgegebenes Spielziel gibt es dabei nicht. Man kann also z.B. spielen um die einzelnen Erfolge freizuschalten, um selbstgesteckte Ziele zu erreichen (das meiste Gold, Hegemon in allen Bereichen Militär, Flotte und Ökonomie etc.) oder einfach um sein Herkunftsland (Bayern, Mecklenburg, Sachsen) zum Kaiser des Heiligen Römischen Reiches aufsteigen zu sehen. Als Bonus lernt man quasi nebenher noch eine Menge über Geschichte.

Präsentation: 1/5
Die Präsentation ist zweckmäßig. Die meiste Zeit hat man einen Kartenmodus aktiviert, der die Weltkarte in die Farben der verschiedenen Länder einfärbt (die haben nichts mit den Flaggenfarben gemein).

Spieldesing: 5/5
Das Spieldesign ist herausragend. Man muss aber entweder die DLCs kaufen oder ein Abonnement abschließen, um wirklich in den Genuss des vollen Spiels zu bekommen. Ohne DLCs ist EU 4 zwar spielbar, aber wesentlich schlechter.

Balance: n/a
Das Spiel ist absichtlich nicht ausbalanciert. Wer als Osmanisches Reich oder als Kastilien startet, hat es naturgemäß leichter die Weltherrschaft an sich zu reißen, als jemand, der als Sioux-Indianerstamm die ersten hundert Jahre damit verbringt, Büffelherden hinterherzulaufen. Insoweit kann man sich je nach fortschreitender Spielerfahrung an immer größeren Herausforderungen versuchen.

Atmosphäre: 5/5
Wer sich richtig in die Welt des späten Mittelalters einfühlen will, mit all dem religiösen und politischen Chaos welches dort vorherrschte, ist hier genau richtig. Selbst wenn es nur aus der Vogelperspektive mit kleinen Männchen ist. Wobei man für die Männchen wieder die DLCs benötigt. Ansonsten sieht ein Italienischer Musketier genauso aus, wie ein Afrikanischer Speerwerfer. Da geht natürlich jede Immersion verloren.

Ein umfangreicheres Spiel findet man höchstens in den anderen Grand Strategy Spielen von Paradox wie Stellaris oder Crusader Kings. Man kann hier hunderte Stunden reinversenken. Im Internet gibt es das Meme, dass man erst nach 1000 Stunden Spielzeit das Tutorial abgeschlossen hat.

Europa Universalis IV, der große Strategie Hit?

Meiner Meinung nach ja vollkommen, nun nach 650 Spielstunden möchte ich die Erfahrungen, welche ich mit EU IV machen konnte, mit denen teilen die eventuell Interesse daran zeigen sich ebenfalls dieses Spiel zu kaufen, was erwartet euch? Was sind Stärken, wo liegen Schwächen? Und vor allem ist das Spiel überhaupt für mich geeignet?

Was erwartet mich?

Europa Universalis IV kommt aus dem Hause Paradox Interactive, welches für seine kniffligen und vor allem komplexen Echtzeitstrategie Spiele bekannt ist und auch EU IV ist ein solches. Expandieren, kolonisieren und verwalten nach Lust und Laune, du kannst Herrscher deines Reiches sein. Hier zur Auswahl stehen alle Staaten welche es von 1444 bis 1821 gab, solang sie representative Größe erreichen konnten, zu kleine Fürstentümer oder freie Städte findet man zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt noch nicht vor. Dennoch bietet das Spiel auch so eine unglaubliche Komplexität. Wie führe ich Handel richtig um größtmögliche Gewinne zu erzielen? Wie viel Macht den Ständen? Ein zentralisiertes oder eher föderalistisches Land? All dies liegt in deiner Hand, und vieles mehr. Modifikatoren bestimmen nicht nur Produktivität, Moral oder die Einnahmen durch Steuern, nein sie können auch dazu führen das es dir leichter fällt Beziehungen zu verbessern, oder deine diplomatische Reputation steigt. Aber lass dich nicht davon erschlagen, immer wieder gerne bringe ich den Vergleich: 'Das wird ungefähr so lange brauchen wie ein Paradox Spiel zu meistern' wenn meine Freunde ein größeres vorhaben planen. Also steck nicht den Kopf in den Sand und probier einfach aus, schließlich ist noch nie ein Meister vom Himmel gefallen!

Wo liegen jetzt jedoch Stärken, was sind Schwächen?

Also wie schon erwähnt ist EU IV ein Spiel mit ungeheurer Komplexität was dadurch eine Menge an Tiefgründigkeit erhält, kleinste Veränderungen können später große Auswirkungen haben. Fordern tut dich das Spiel alle mal an vielen stellen, zum Beispiel beim Aufstellen deiner Armee, hier gewinnt nämlich nicht der mit der größeren Armee, nein sondern der bei dem die Modifikatoren besser sind, welche zum einen ein besser General , eine größere Armee, höhere Moral und Disziplin, aber auch die Tradition deines Militärs sein kann. Das gleiche gilt für deine stolze Marine. Weitere Stärken sind das deutliche Bemerkbar machen des Zeit Fortschrittes, das Finanzsystem und im allgemeinen das Wirtschaftssystem der Provinzen und das deines Landes.
Nun aber zu den Schwächen, hier gibt es nicht wirklich welche die sich direkt auf das Spiel beziehen aber indirekt schon mit hineinspielen. Ich spreche von Paradoxs DLC Politik, wer sein Spiel erweitern möchte kann gut über 100€ hinblättern um ein rundes gesamt Erlebnis zu bekommen. Viele Mechaniken erhält man nämlich erst mit diesen kostspieligen Erweiterungen. Jedoch lässt sich aber auch das Basis Spiel vernünftig Spielen und bereitet mir immer wieder viel Freude.

Aber für wen eignet sich das Spiel überhaupt?

Prinzipiell lege ich das Spiel jedem ans Herzen der sowieso schon Erfahrung mit anderen Paradox Titeln machen konnte, sich für Strategie Spiele im allgemeinen interessiert oder ein Herz für Geschichte hat. Denn EU IV leitet einen wunderbar durch die, meiner Meinung nach, spannensten Epochen der Menschheitsgeschichte. Vom Spät Mittelalter, über die Renaissance, durch die Reformation, zur Aufklärung und früh Industrialisierung bis hin zu den Napoleonischen Kriegen.
Jedoch ist das Spiel denn Einsteigerfreundlich? Nunja die Frage ist nicht so leicht zu beantworten, es gibt sicher andere Paradox Titel die sich besser zum Start eignen, jedoch ist jedes Spiel des Entwicklers anders und auf seine Art speziell, sodass es sich eigentlich auch lohnt mit irgendeinem Titel anzufangen, da man jeden erstmal meistern muss.

Fazit: Von mir gibt es eine klare Kaufempfehlung und ich empfehle denen die sich eventuell angesprochen fühlen sich dieses Spiel zu kaufen. Ja es gibt Schwächen jedoch werden diese, nach meiner Ansicht, von vielen Stärken, welche das Siel zu bieten hat, übertrumpft.

Eines der besten Multiplayer Strategie Spiele, das ich je gespielt habe.

Besonders hervorzuheben ist meiner Meinung nach die Balance zwischen den unterschiedlichen Ländern zu jeder zeit gewahrt zu haben und dementsprechend eine Entwicklung sinnvoll zu machen.

Zudem finde ich auch, wenn die DLCs viel Geld kosten, dass sich diese richtig lohnen, da sie eine große Menge neuen Content ermöglichen und das spielen sowohl im Singleplayer als auch im Multiplayer erweitern.

Habe zwar bis jetzt nur in Gruppen von maximal 3 Spielern gespielt, jedoch sind Kriege untereinander selbst bei solch kleiner Spieleranzahl sehr spannend und bei großen Multiplayer Partien wahrscheinlich noch mehr.

Wer Strategiespiele mag sollte sich dieses holen !

Diese DLC Politik ist nicht zu Empfehlen.
Ich kaufe ein Spiel für 39,99€ bei Steam und darf mich dann entscheiden 220€+ für die DLC zu zahlen oder ein A B O ( Nice Steam Abo ist wohl Tabu) für 4,99€/Monat abzuschließen. Ohne DLC ist es teilweise nicht Spielbar.

Sehr gutes Spiel, aber für Anfänger sehr unübersichtlich. Fals man ohne dlcs spielt wird es jedoch recht schnell öde weil die Tiefe fehlt, soll heißen wenn man das Basegame öde findet sollte man die dlcs probieren. Alles in allem ein Grandstratgie Meisterwerk, für leute die einen höheren Grad an Komplexität mögen.

Nach 2.000 Spielstunden kann ich sagen, dass ich dieses Spiel durchaus verstanden und geliebt gewonnen habe.
So unterschiedliche Mechanismen machen jede Runde zu einem neuen Ereignis und immer wieder interessant.
Ob in Europa, der neuen Welt oder in Asien, es gibt viele Schauplätze mit unterschiedlichsten Schwerpunkten.
Das Spiel scheint mit seiner Vielzahl an DLC sehr unübersichtlich, bringt es aber ordentlich Tiefe und Spielspaß.

Nach 750 Spielstunden kann ich sagen, dass dieses Spiel auf jeden Fall eines meiner Lieblingsspiele ist.
Am Anfang ist es zwar ziemlich schwer in das Spiel rein zu kommen, weil das Tutorial nicht das allerbeste ist, aber wenn man einmal drin ist, macht das Spiel sehr viel Spaß. Sowohl im Einzelspieler als auch im Mehrspieler macht das Spiel Spaß, wobei ich mehr Einzelspieler gespielt habe.
Ein negativer Punkt des Spieles ist das DLC-Management, da die DLCs einen stolzen Preis für ihren Inhalt haben. Ansonsten gibt es nicht viel zu meckern.
Ich empfehle dieses Spiel allen weiter, die Globalstrategie mögen, oder denjenigen, die es mal ausprobieren wollen. Man darf nur nicht aufgeben, wenn man es am Anfang nicht versteht, es braucht seine Zeit.

Mein absolutes Lieblingsspiel.
Selbst nach weit über 3000 Stunden Spielzeit habe ich noch immer nicht genug davon. Mit jedem neuen DLC kommen neue Mechaniken, Events, Missionen und Errungenschaften hinzu. Jedes Land das man spielt stellt dich vor neue Herausforderungen und selbst wenn man immer das gleiche Land wählen würde, wäre dennoch jedes Spiel anders, weil andere Events stattfinden, andere Bündnisse vorliegen oder AI-Kriege alles auf den Kopfstellen. Ein Spiel, dass einen historischen Start (respektive mehrere mögliche historische Startpunkte an wichtigen Zeitpunkten der Geschichte zwischen 1444 und 1821) vorgibt, sich aber völlig ahistorisch entwickeln kann.
Die eigenen Fähigkeiten entwickeln sich mit jedem Spiel weiter. Selbst nach Tausenden Stunden kann man immer noch Neues entdecken und seine Fähigkeiten ausbauen. Es ist sicher nicht das einsteigerfreundlichste Spiel, wenn man jedoch Interesse an Grand Strategy hat und bereit ist, sich mit dem Spiel auseinanderzusetzen und sich die nötige Zeit zu nehmen, um sich mit der anfangs erdrückenden Füllen an Informationen, Schaltflächen und Möglichkeiten zu befassen, der hat gute Chancen, ein überwältigendes Spiel zu erleben, dass euch noch über viele Jahre begleiten und erfreuen kann. Auch die vielfältigen Mods sollten nicht unterschätzt werden. Manche überarbeiten die etwas angestaubte Grafik, andere erweitern das Spiel um Events oder erweitern die spielbare Zeitlinie und vieles mehr. Da ist wohl für jeden etwas dabei, der ein fantastisches Spiel noch weiter ausschöpfen möchte.

Wenn ihr euch überlegt, dieses Spiel zu kaufen, dann empfehle ich euch, erst mal ein Let's Play anzuschauen oder anfangs nur mal das Basisspiel zu reduziertem Preis zu kaufen, um zu sehen, ob es euch auch wirklich anspricht. Ob ihr euch auch noch alle oder zumindest einige DLCs holt ist natürlich jedem selbst überlassen. Sonderangebote mit 50 % oder mehr kommen immer wieder vor. Ich kaufe mir alle DLC. Zum einen, weil ich gerne das Maximum an neuen Möglichkeiten ausschöpfen möchte (denn zu jedem DLC kommen immer auch kostenlose Neuerungen hinzu) als auch weil ich dieses Spiel als Ganzes unterstützen möchte. Nicht alle DLC haben dieselbe Qualität. In den Bewertungen und Diskussionen könnt ihr euch einen Überblick verschaffen und selbst entscheiden, welche DLC euch am ehesten entsprechen.

As I perceive it every f***ing Update makes your Savegames useless. WTF!?! Are the coders incompetent or just bullies?
Some people have jobs and families and therefor only time to play from time to time - and after you have spent hours and hours creating your empire guess what - another MINOR update that blows it all. Thx for nothing.

Would an option to decline updates or updates that don't render our savegames useless be so difficult ???

Dieses Spiel hat die Tiefe eines typischen paradox-Strategie-Blockbusters!!! Man kann von über 200 Ländern die Geschichte nachspielen oder auch nach belieben verändern, indem man Kriege anzettelt, schlechte Entscheidungen trifft, etc. Wie ich es von einem solchen Spiel erwarte, muss man sich erst intensiv damit beschäftigen und kann auch nach 100 Spielstunden neues lernen. Auch die DLCs bieten viele neue Funktionen (wobei ich noch keine ausprobiert habe!)

You can replay the whole history of over 200 different countries but also completely change its faites by declaring wars or making bad decisions, etc. Like expected it, from such a game, you have to play it intensively but even after 100 hours it's always possible to discover new features or learn more about the game . The DLCs can also enrich your gameplay (although I haven't tried them yet!)

Sehr interessantes und spannendes Spiel für alle Geschichts-Interessierten. Mich hat die Geschichte Europas bzw. die der Welt schon immer ein bisschen interessiert. Durch EU4 habe ich allerdings noch sehr viel neues gelernt, was ich noch nicht wusste. Man lernt viel über Dynastien, alte Ländergrenzen, Regierungspolitiken, historische Kriege, sowie neue Länder in Europa von denen man noch nie etwas gehört hat. Anfangs ist es trotz Tutorial etwas schwierig einzusteigen, finde ich, da es sehr umfassend ist. Aber mit der Dauer und einigen YouTube-Videos, wird es verständlicher. Es macht sehr viel Spaß mit anderen Spielern zu spielen, aber auch der Ironman mit vielen Achievements macht sehr viel Spaß. Erst durch die Achievements spielt man mal Länder, die man normalerweise nicht spielen würde. Was mit auch sehr gefällt, es gibt fast für jede Mechanik im Spiel ebenfalls ein Achievement. Zum Beispiel: Trete einer Koalition bei, Verleihe Condotierri, hab so und so viel Moral usw. die Liste ist endlos. Ich kann dieses Spiel jedem empfehlen, der sich auch nur ein bisschen für Geschichte interessiert.

In meinen Augen einfach das beste Strategiespiel mit historischem Hintergrund auf dem Markt. Zwar dauert es eine Weile in das Spiel hinein zu kommen und sich mit den Mechaniken vertraut zu machen, doch wenn man es dann durch diese Zeit geschafft hat gibt es so viele interessante Kampagnen mit den unterschiedlichsten Nation zu bewältigen.

Großartiges Spiel, ehrlich jetzt. Habe schon mehrere Nächte mir damit verhauen (im guten Sinne, meine ich). Du wirst irgendwann echt in das Game reingezogen, dass du einfach nicht mehr aufhören kannst. Kann ich für jeden empfehlen, der andere Paradox Games ohnehin schon feiert.

Nach knapp 150 Stunden dann doch mal ein Review.

EU4 gekauft angespielt und nach 2 Stunden zur Seite geschoben. Der erste Eindruck war seltsam. Man hat das Gefühl es passiert im Grunde nichts und wenn man mal dahin kommt und einen Krieg erklärt verliert man ihn und fertig.

Wieso schwärmen die Leute nur für das Spiel? Dann habe ich den Rat befolgt und mich mit Tutorials beschäftigt. Und 1 reicht nicht aus. Selbst 10 reichen nicht. Aber zumindest hat man danach einen Grundeindruck was man in dem Spiel überhaupt machen kann. Und was soll ich sagen:

Es ist gigantisch.

Jede Partie ist anders und man lernt in jeder Partie etwas dazu was man zuvor schlicht nicht gesehen hat. Das Spiel ist in seiner Bedienung wenig intuitiv und man muss schon wissen wo sich was verbirgt. Dafür sind die Toturials und auch das EU4 Wiki zwingend notwendig.

Hat man aber erst einmal die Grundlagen drin ist es ein großartiges Spiel:

* es ist durch alle Zeitalter hinweg ausgewogen. Selbst wenn man zu einer Zeit zu dominieren scheint kann sich mit dem nächsten Zeitalter und der jeweiligen technologischen Gewichtung alles ändern.

* die Diplomatie ist extrem wichtig und auch Geduld und die Fähigkeit die Geschehnisse auf der Welt im Blick zu behalten um Gelegenheiten zu ergreifen. Beispiel: Man möchte als Spanien Portugal angreifen. Dieses ist mit England verbündet. Starten man einen Krieg gegen Marokko vor Portugal werden sie nachziehen und ihren eigenen Krieg gegen sie erklären. (England ist es zu weit weg und sie mischen nicht mit) Marokko ist verbündet mit Granada diese sind im Krieg dabei. Besiegt man Granada und erklärt sie zum Vasallen während Portugal noch im Krieg ist wird man automatisch auf Seiten seines neuen Vasallen in den Krieg gegen Portugal gezogen und kann sie locker in den ersten 15 Spieljahren aus der Welt befördern.

So verhält es sich mit dem ganzen Spiel. Erkennt man die diplomatischen Verzwickungen kann man sie nutzen und siegen.

Aber auch Handel / Krieg / Entwicklung / Technologie / Entdeckung bieten viele Stunden Spielspaß.
Dadurch das jeder Durchgang auch mit dem gleichen Land immer anders abläuft schon von beginn an hat das Spiel einen enorm hohen Wiederspielwert.

Was die DLCs angeht. Ja sie kosten Geld. Sie gibt es im Sale. Sie erweitern das Spiel signifikant aber man muss sie nicht von Anfang an haben. Sie machen ein tollen Spiel noch tiefgehender und eröffnen noch mehr Wege.

Dazu kommen die Mods aus der Comunity. Allein die extended Timeline Mod die es einem ermöglicht von 55 bis in die Zukunft zu spielen auch mit Herrschern wie Frau Merkel Kim oder Trump etc. geben dem Spiel noch mehr Möglichkeiten als es ohnehin schon hat.

Um in den Genuss den Spiels zu kommen braucht man schlicht:

Geduld und die Lust sich auch in komplexe Spielmechaniken einzulesen / schauen.

EU4 is a hard game to recommend. It's a historic game that will never be historically accurate. It's a strategy game that requires less strategy the more you play. It wants you to be diplomatic but the only way to reliably do anything is through war. It wants you to make war but 95% of it's mechanics have to do with diplomacy. It's unplayable without DLC but it's DLC costs like 200$. Well on the last point I'll say don't buy it at full price and don't play it without DLC there are plenty of sales especially look for sales on humblebundle you can get the game and all it's DLC for 40$ sometimes. On the other points I can't really resolve the issues other than to say it's a sandbox. You make your own goals, you make your own fun. Is that a cop out? Yes. Is there another way to put it? I don't think so.

Having played it on and off since 2014, buying every DLC, besides the latest, and defending it to its detractors, I've grown to truly despise this game.

Other reviews from the past 6 months outline how the latest expansions have flopped and the balancing of the game has been thrown off its axis. This is true. However, Europa Universalis IV has a far deeper and more fatal flaw that no patch or DLC can ever fix.

I'm a huge history autist. After the disaster launch of Total War: Rome II, I searched frantically for a new franchise to scratch that itch. Europa Universalis IV did the job. It completely took over my life, along with other paradox titles that EUIV served as a gateway drug for, for most of my teenage years. I'm now 21.

All video games have what I can only describe as a arc of enjoyment. Imagine the path of a stone, thrown upwards at a 45 degree angle. At the launch, you're struggling to master the mechanics of the game, driven to do so by curiosity, positive reception of the game and pride in your latent skill as a gamer.
At the apex, you've grasped the core mechanics of the game and can experience it how it was meant to played. You can explore the game and begin to experiment and get creative with new playstyles, testing the game's limits. There's also still room for improvement and growth in your skill as the player.
At the fall, you've hit your skill ceiling. The magic of the game falls away and you can quite easily exploit its engine as you've grown so familiar with it. The only real enjoyment left for you is challenge/completionist runs or mutliplayer, but even now you've squeezed most of the juice from the lemon. It will slowly dawn on you that you've got all this game has to give, and maybe it's time to move on.

An easy way to understand this for most people is to think of Skyrim, or whichever was your first Todd Howard Bethesda game. Think of the awe and wonder of your first playthrough. The excitement of your second playthrough, as you took on the same world but as a different playstyle, joining and trying out different factions. Then think of your last playthrough, using exploits that gave you late game progression and items straight away. No challenge in sight, you quickly begin to wonder what you want to do with Chadwyk Thundercokson, level 30 Nord, only 45 minutes into the game. This is perfectly fine and almost no game is exempt from this. By this point you've easily gotten 100 hours out of this game.

Europa Universalis IV, and all paradox games for the matter, is exempt from this, but for all the wrong reasons. There is simply no apex. I cannot, for the life of me, recall anything close to the euphoric feeling I got from killing Almalexia for the first time, or steamrolling an old total war campaign on the hardest difficulty. EUIV goes from being trying to survive against the AI as a noob, to destroying your sanity doing challenge runs that are highly frustrating and RNG based, very suddenly.

Anxiety-inducing, avoidant gameplay, constant crisis management and a vicious dopamine cycle of 'blobbing' (making your nation so powerful that the AI stands no chance) and immediately feeling so dejected and empty that you can't even go through the motions of finishing the campaign are what's in store for you if you buy this game. 90% of players bail before the endgame, which is what the what the entire game builds towards as you play, further proof that this 'game' is just a trap of compulsive map painting and achievement fixation.

If you see this game, see the historical and grand strategy tags and think you might like this game, chances are you have a lot of in common with me. As a teenager I used this game as a cope for social anxiety, awkwardness and loneliness. Compulsive personality and negative emotions kept me coming back to what is nothing more than a broken simulation based around RNG, spreadsheet gameplay and colours on a map. It did nothing but compound and exacerbate my personal issues, and will add NOTHING positive to your life. Do not buy this game.

If you haven't invested in the DLCs by now, It's not worth it: AI get DLC perks that aren't open to you without said DLC and game becomes pretty much unplayable. Sank way too many hours into a game that's tilted against you from the start unless you have the major DLCs. Thanks Paradox.

This is probably my second favourite game of all time. I have sank so many hours, and I love it so much. But my god, the DLC policy is as awful as others say. Get this game if you can buy most of the important DLC's (check online for buying guides) together on sale with the game. You will have so much fun. You will have so many shit times too. But overall, you will just get to sit back, and play this game as you want. I treat this game as a kind of therapy in a way. I come home, I put on an album or two and I play EU4. Sometimes I will have a nice beer. The learning curve of this game isn't as bad as it may seem. You will never learn every mechanic unless you truly devote yourself (I am most definietly still a 'bad' player if I was to go multiplayer) but you will make your country work. You will start to map paint, or becoming an economic powerhouse just interfering with countries that you want to help or hinder. Have fun. If you aren't having fun, whats the point in all of this anyway.

EU4 is not good without DLCs. It is the only game I have bought which expects you to buy DLCs. Every tutorial or video on youtube has DLCs enabled. It would be crazy to think to play this game without DLC. If I knew this beforehand, I wouldn't of gave them my money.

I like this game, however it has by far the most complex mechanics I've ever seen in a game. I've put in about 50 hours so far, have restarted 3 or 4 times, but this is one of those games where there are so many decisions to make, that you really don't understand the impact of seemingly small missteps. I feel like you have to put in 100's of hours to really get out of the beginner/ tutorial phase just because there are so many options and things to do and its not obvious which decisions really led to downfall (to me at this stage in experience).

Just trying to understand how trade nodes and diplomacy works, I had to watch youtube tutorials to really grasp it, and I've played tons of city builders, RTS's, and turn based strategy games.

The Total War or Civilization games seem like kids games compared to this, even Stellaris, which is made by the same people I feel like is only half as difficult as this game. If you are looking for a brain melting challenge with a steep steep learning curve, where leading one nation to victory will take dozens of hours unless you play on max speed the entire time and already have 100's of hours of experience, this game is meant for the most experienced strategy gamers.

Now for the actual review. best grand strategy game on the market there's truly nothing else like it. paradox has a monopoly on the entire genre, not complaining though i love this game as is obvious by my many hours. this is a niche game for hardcore strategy and history fans however. it can be hard to learn and get into but once it clicks it becomes the most engaging strategy game out there. id describe it as a hardcore mix of risk and civilization for those wanting a comparison. would i recommend it? absolutely! just wait for the dlc to go on sale or buy the monthly subscription. as the dlc packs are pretty necessary at this point, its like a completely different game without them.

Quite nice painting application. The tools are somewhat odd and counterintuitive at times, and changing colours is tedious. On the other hand, very rarely art packages include a soundtrack and interesting random event chains, so that's a plus.

Not entirely sure, if this fits a production environment, but surely another few hundred hours will remedy that. Strangely addictive though.

EUIV is a wonderful game and a beautiful way to get into grand strategy games if you're worried about being overwhelmed. There's nothing like the serotonin release of just painting the map as your favorite color and conquering the world again and again in a variety of different ways. You don't have to be a genius to play (but it helps) -- even fools like me can have fun watching two armies clash, and the beauty of it is that even when you lose, you win the most valuable reward of all: a story.

With having nearly 1,000 hours, I believe I can accurately rate this game.
Vanilla without DLCs, it's a decent game. With DLCs, it's probably the best grand strategy ever. However, Paradox extorts its players by charging ridiculous amounts for their DLCs, making the game cost well over $200 for everything. Their DLC policy is the worst in the gaming industry, so for that reason, it's hard to say if it's worth it at all. Instead of putting true content in updates, they sell them as DLCs, making some parts of the game clunky and difficult unless you want to shell out some extra money.

In conclusion, it's an awesome game with some of the worst publishers in the history of gaming.

This game is huge. If you are a casual player i won't recommend it to you. If you are a strategy freak this is a must-have.
It is a very complex to play game with lots of menus and tasks to do. It is historically more accurate than most games i've seen. The whole globe is the map and every nation/state is playable and most of them very individual. BUT a whole lot a not really worth playing, since they sufisticate very slowly and basicly stay the same the whole game long (or at least for the longest part). This is all really realistic but it can sometimes be hurting the fun.
There are a lot of good mods in the workshop. It is fun to play a lot nations. It is hard but that is fun thus fine with me. Runs great on GNU+Linux
Biggest minus is the well known Paradox Studio's DLC policy, do I have to say more?

EU4 is a very good game overall, however, the business approach that Paradox implemented to sell this game is abusive and unethical. Basically, they found the way to squeeze the customer's pocket as much as possible with the least effort possible.

This is an old game that can only be played properly after purchasing an extensive amount of DLCs with unreasonable high prices when compared to the actual value each of them add into the game. So, by the time you are ready to play this game properly, you have already spent way more money that you would have imagined in a single title.

I understand that Paradox makes games for a living and they need to make profit, however, this does not mean that they can offer an overpriced product with no price reduction with the passing time. It is ridiculous that they have not included the basic DLC content for free after almost a decade of this game being in the market.

I hope this review helps people interested in purchasing this game for the first time to be aware of the type of money they will need to spend if they want to properly play this game. Don't be tricked if you see the base game in sale, check the DLC content first and if it is miraculously in sale as well that is the only way I could recommend this game, if not you better look for any other strategy game in the market where to spend your money and your time.

After playing this game of 1000's of hours i can't recommend it. In the past few years and patches it AI has become worse and worse. The dev's don't seem to care, instead of fixing it they just and more mechanics that make the problem worse.

They released the last update which completely broke the game and then went on holiday of 2 months without even communicating to the player base.

Avoid at all costs!!!

Good game, my playtime isn't quite accurate, probably played around 700 hours. As far as Paradox games go, the most enjoyable so far.
Diplomacy is important, unlike hoi4.
Wars are for the most part fun.
You constantly learn new things - this game takes forever to master.
Replayability is insane, you have a lot of nations to play as and you can do well with every single one of them, of course some are much more challenging than others.
Expanding = ecstasy

However, the game is not without fault:
Base game is overpriced, because it is bad. Without DLCs this is one of the worst Paradox games.
DLCs are also overpriced and some features that should be in the base game are included in them, for example you can't disinherit your 0/1/0 just because you didn't pay up.
Sometimes the AI does some incredibly annoying things, like moving around the entire world to siege provinces that do not matter. (Played Russia once, fought against Spain and they invaded Siberia).
AI suddenly allying with the ones you are at war with, making wars annoying.
The AI knows where you are headed to and can avoid you easily - AI cheats.
Also they just have access everywhere and when you try to go the same route they just cancel their access so you can't go in.
Rebels spawning all the time.
AI that literally does kamikaze to limit you.

There's a range of problems, but the game is very good. Not worth the money... but still worth it - buy it on sale.
Base game: 4/10 - enjoyable for around 10 hours and then you start feeling that something's wrong with the game. Then ultimately realise that the DLCs are necessary and then cry.

Full game: 8/10
What do I know though, I haven't even done WC one faith, one tag, one culture or no colonies.

Love the game but with all of the DLC the barrier to entry for new players at the moment is too high for me to recommend it.

Game is good and you will sink 100 of hours, if grand strategy is your thing. BUT only if you are willing to pay around 200 to 300€ to buy all necessary DLC, which make game good. Yes you could play without them, but all quality of life and other game mechanics which has been introduced during EU4 7 year life span. Main problem is that prices are still same as then when all of them was released.

My wife left me and took the kids over this, apparently her Latino lover Santiago was willing offer more than managing to consistently PUing France as England before 1490. Also, I may have remortgaged the house in order to pay for the dlcs but who needs a house when you have a British focus tree.

10/10 Never liked her anyway, Maria Theresa of Austria is my one true love.

Screw you Santiago :¬)

This might just be my favorite game of all time. It allows you to take control of hundreds of different nations throughout multiple different time periods, allowing for thousands of hours of replayability. The game goes to great lengths to achieve a high degree of historical accuracy through its events and mission trees, although that does not in any way limit you from doing something incredibly historically inaccurate with your playthrough. If you are an achievement-hunter, there are hundreds of achievements for you to pursue. It also helps that this game is great for both multiplayer and single-player. The only downside is that you do need some DLC to really fully enjoy the game, but with the new subscription system it is considerably cheaper. Great game, 10/10.

Great game. Enjoyable also for multiplayer.
Challanging for new players, because of all the features, but when you played it a while, it is good to handle.

The down part might be the DLC politic. DLC´s are great but to expensive over all, if you consider just buying the basic game it is nearly unplayable without any DLC´s.

In my ongoing and likely futile effort to write a Steam review for every game in my library (#325 out of 560)... it's time for Europa Universalis IV.

Arguably the grandest of all grand strategy games, Europa Universalis finally demonstrates something all of our best scientists believed, for years, to be impossible: Paradox can, in fact, design a user interface that isn't complete rubbish.

Don't mistake that for praise, mind you: the UI is simply servicable, and nothing more. Diving into the game still means braving a fairly steep learning curve -- only, in a rare change of pace, that curve consists of only an hour or two to learn to core systems and mechanics, rather than a dozen or more. Finally: you'll have time to focus on your AI foes instead of your UI foes! Sorry, sorry, I know it's a lame joke by I couldn't help myself. You have no idea how nice it is to open up a Paradox game with a UI you don't have to fight tooth-and-nail every time. Or maybe you've played other, older Paradox titles before, in which case you know exactly what I mean.

I should probably comment briefly on the underlying game. Europa Universalis is a grand strategy game of global scale, focused more on simulating complex social and diplomatic relationships with and within nation-states. It's more about management than conquest, and shepherding a nation to global domination (is both possible and) can be immensely satisfying. But infinitely more rewarding is taking charge of a small country, a land that would almost certainly collapse in the wake of greater powers if not for your influence, and leading it to not just survive, but thrive. Just try to stay away from the DLC, because once you fall down that rabbit hole, there's no crawling your way back out again.
