If you approach this game completely biased there is a lot to do in it. Granted is missing features that make ETS 2 and ATS the games they are but this one is where it all started and it is interesting to see what the developers were trying to accomplish, which they succeeded. They must have or we might not have ever seen ETS 2 or ATS.
ETS is a more simplistic approach to truck driving. You still make deliveries as usual but the other aspects, like getting fuel and taking a nap, are simplified. I had a difficult time finding out where to upgrade/repair my truck and I still haven't figured out how to revisit the truck shop to get another one when I'm ready. The trucks can also have an erratic behavior making them a bit difficult to control compared to ETS 2 and ATS. But, in the end, it is still a very playable and enjoyable game to play with lots to offer. Easily a classic in its own right. For the current price of $5 you can't go wrong.

is what I would say if it was 2008.
There is a Euro Truck Simulator 2 now!
It's so much better.
But if you're on a budget, totally buy this. It's still amazing.

The missions in Euro Truck Simulator typically revolve around picking up and dropping off cargo. The player can play the game in a structured career mode, which typically involves joining a cargo company and driving cargo around the city to its destination.
There are keyboard controls to drive the truck with and to operate the lights, indicators and horn, however playing with a gamepad is also supported. Players can use the mouse to look around their truck cab and check their side mirrors while driving.

Leaving a positive review because the game itself is good and the developer doesn't need to have one of their games unnecessarily rated negative just because a better version exists.

This is the second game by SCS that I've played, the other being 18 Wheels of Steel: American Long Haul. For having released only 8 months later, the improvements between that game and this one are incredible. I would go so far as to say that the graphics, the way the gameplay feels, and the detail of the in-game economy are all objectively better than the previous game. Trucks don't randomly snap loose like in the previous game. You get fair warning before your character starts dozing in this game. AI traffic uses the right lane now, and it doesn't turn right from the left lane anymore. The money you earn has more use in this game vs the last one; you buy business licenses to expand your operation into more countries, and you can buy hazmat permits to haul more dangerous (and thus more valuable) cargo. The road system has a more natural feel than the previous game, with smoother turns and smoother elevation changes. There are even subtle new additions like being able to hear ambient noise at certain places like farms and lumber mills.
However, there's one fatal flaw in this game that the new changes aren't enough to counter: every business has cargo to be delivered to locations in every other available city. How is that bad? Isn't that more convenient? Well, longer trips universally pay more, regardless of the in-game supply and demand changes. That, along with the in-game career progression goals, encourages you to always do the longest trip possible to maximize your income. This in turn causes you to perform shuttle runs back and forth between one end of the map and whatever unlocked city is the furthest from that edge. I kept a physical log of my trips because I'm a weirdo, but looking back over this log exposes just how bad this problem is. That log will be at the end of this review. See if you can notice a pattern in my deliveries. In contrast, I spent almost twice as many hours playing the previous game, 24.9 hours, and I never delivered to the same city twice. The repetitive shuttling that you do in this game is certainly more accurate to real truck driving, but it doesn't make for a very fun video game.
All this being said, at the end of the day, I bought this game for $5 full price. Despite it's flaws, do I feel like I got $5 of entertainment out of this game? Yeah. If nothing else, it's interesting to see where ETS got it's start before I move on to ETS2, which I've exclusively heard good things about. Have you never played ETS2 or ATS? Maybe you have, but you just want to see what SCS was up to before their rise to popularity? Then yes, I would recommend checking this game out. For this price, you can do far worse.
The following is my full 18 trip log, starting from my spawn point in Madrid:
Lumber > Lisbon
Potatoes > Barcelona
Tomatoes > Lisbon
Furniture > Barcelona
Frozen Food > Lisbon
Diesel > Barcelona
Cheese > Madrid
Apples > Barcelona
Cheese > Lisbon
Petrol > Barcelona
Dry Milk > Lisbon
Petrol > Paris

This game... well... it didn't really age very well. It has its charm, but the physics are odd, there are some tiny framerate issues (maybe it's just my PC dying, dunno) and the AI is a bit... weird at times.
Yes, I'm fully aware that this game's super old, but if you want to have the best trucking experience - look up for ETS2 or ATS, obviously they're much better.
The only reason I bought this game is because I'm somewhat more familiar with its engine. I've played a lot of 18 WoS back in the day (it's all about that nostalgia thingy), and also wanted to check it out. (and also because it was just 1€)

Anyways, let me tell you about the game
It was a real banger back in its time, it also had a gold edition, this game was one of the best truck simulation games out there in the old days, its really hard to find good mods for this game. You cant play multiplayer but there was a mod where you would have to download a server within the mod, which would let you to play with your friends, but it was really buggy and old, you wont be able to find it nowadays no matter what you do, its completely under the rug now.
The graphics are really old and this game just screams nostalgia, yet its not fair sometimes, the SOS doesnt do any shit so you're just gonna waste your 1 k away if you're stuck somewhere, i had this problem when i just got my new truck, I literally crashed into someone for fun and then my fucking truck dies, i called SOS and wow, no fucking thing happens.
This is unbelievable, and it sure felt like as if i got scammed, the SOS call doesnt really do anything, the only thing it does is taking your 1 k away.
The trucks dont have any licenses, since this was a small game company back then, For example: Majestic is Mercedes, Swift is Scania. But they could've get licenses when they made a great profit by the game, however they didnt, The game was going to contain a west dlc, yet they didnt made the dlc at all, playing this game feels like as if you're playing a game from itch.io or gamejolt.
Almost every mod is down which is really bad if you're trying to fix the game with mods just like how i've tried to, but i got some help from a few guides which gave me a few mods.
Theres no option for buying garages, selling trucks or selling garages, and its really hard to find dealerships since they dont show up on the map, same goes to companies.
You cant place waypoints so you'll have to keep looking to the map, and you're gonna get bored easily after a few minutes while driving, theres also rainy weather in the game, suprisingly.
The physics are bad, as you can expect from a game thats old, like you can literally turn the wheel and drift, i'm not even joking, a thing that you wont be able to do in ETS 2.
Most of the mods that you'll find on the internet may not be for your version, which can either crash your game, fuck up your save file or not work at all.
Theres no way playing multiplayer since all the mods are down.
So lets say that you dont have a gaming computer and even if you do you cant get ets 2 in someway, try this game, you wont regret it. (i guess)
As a nostalgia nerd, i love games like this, so i'm giving it a 7/10, And i do recommend it for those that doesnt have a good pc or for the people that cant afford it.

The honest answer is, there's really no reason and that's what makes me sad iv'e tried so hard to like this, but I just can't. Its neat to kill 20 minutes of your time playing an old truck sim and getting the taste of nostalgia, but that's it. The driving, I suppose the main feature of the game, it's sluggish, hard to control using keyboard but with that being said I got a little surprise when I found out my Logitech G920 wheel and pedals work with this game...oh boy its even worse, it feels like I'm steering a ship! It's honestly easier with keyboard and mouse lol. The trucks are non branded, not like ETS2 where they have actual licenses for the trucks and truck models, honestly not a big deal it's completely fine. And then it comes to the deal breaker for me, as far as I'm aware, no mod support (don't quote me on that I'm sure if I done some research and a quick google search there's probably mods, but no workshop support, again I know this game was released way before Steam Workshop) But the replayability of mods to games like ETS2 and ATS at this point are essential to keeping these games alive, I have no doubt if Workshop support was added it would breathe a whole new life into this game!
Buy it when its on sale, its nice to have this game sit around in your library to play every few years :)
