Über das Spiel

Erschaffe deine eigene Legende

Great Game, really love it. Introducing new ideas but still keeping the feel of a good 4x Strategy Game. Love the lore too, you can feel how much passion the delevoper put into the game. Great replayability due to many diffferent factions.

Great Game, Hooks up for several hours, beware of the need to learn and understand the game. Everything you need to know is in the Game, but not in an easy accessible way like a tutorial, but more in tooltips n stuff. So you will need some rounds to get the game up. The many possibilities wil help to have a very long time of fun with the game in return.
Complex and different Factions further intensify the long replayability factor.
On top of that, Art and Music are probably the best i have ever seen/heard in a game/franchise.
20/10 would buy again

PROs
Each race is so different and that is a good thing!
Endless replayability.
Interesting visuals.
Heroes are great and level up.
Great options for upgrading heroes and units with items.
Quests are interesting

CONs
Multiplayer is a poor user experience
There seems to be a general lack of play testing and design polish in some areas (e.g. bugs here and there, balance issues)

After 90+ hours spent with Endless Legend, here are my take aways:
-The world is gorgeous, every biome and tile are intricately detailed and the colors pop
-The factions are creative, and (somewhat) balanced. Replaying the game as each is always interesting.
-Empire management is excellent, I like it better than Civ for this. Trade routes, economics, politics, population and resource management, it's all here. Simplified so that it's not overwhelming, but deep enough.
-Combat is a boring slog that slows down the game and isn't fun. Just take the high ground and bring ranged units. Auto-resolve where possible.
-Music is amazing.

if you're on Mac or Linux what i'm about to say may not apply to you.
i absolutely adore this game. for about a year i could not get enough of it. BUT..
i would not recommend it. a year or two ago i would've. now?
the problem is that the game is super finicky and not aging well. every time there's a new Windows update or driver update it's a dice roll to see if the game will have some new bug to fight through just to get it to run at all. it gets really old really fast.
if you've mad puter skills and can get anything to run buy it immediately and enjoy it to your heart's content.
for people who aren't technical geniuses: wait for Endless Legend 2 and hope it's more stable.

this game is truly amazing however the developers suck they made a game that's amazing but they issued updates that make bugs that leave the game unplayable (you can't save) and then do nothing to fix it. I've tried everything advised on the forums and the discussion boards spending months trying to figure it out but nothing works.

As much as I tried, it didn't click with me.

The game has some original ideas that I could categorize as fantastic, as having battles between units being a completely different brand of turn-based strategy combat instead of simple damage calculation that most games its genre would show. Except for a few exceptions, all of the factions feel distinct having their very different plan and path to victory, and the world is surrounded by unexpected events that make you think on your toes about what are you going to prioritize next to get a leg-up on your opponent.

The tech tree is sort of odd, being divided in tiers and only having to research a few of a lower tier, to them move to the highest ones which would usually be more powerful. Your units can be equipped with different gears that change their stats somewhat, and no matter your civilization, you can round up your army by hiring from other minor factions you can conquer or appease along the way. The allocation of workers in town is simple, a little too simple, in fact. You for the most part decide to focus on one thing and change that turn to turn depending on what is needed.

The city growth is not... great. Expanding territory doesn't quite feel right and it feels like a race to get your approval under control so you can get another city in another territory before someone gets it for you. It's easier said than done and you usually have to wait a long time before you can manage your population to the point you can found another city, but still wish that you were not basically locked into your initial layout save expensive expansions. I don't even know how to explain this one right; cities don't feel like in other 4X games where you can start slow and turn it into a respectable and specialized tool for your empire.

Events can be a little overwhelming and if feels you're more at the mercy of the world rather than executing your gameplan after analyzing the patch that you want to take. Factions feel unique, but none of them was particularly fun, perhaps due to the low variance of units available at any given time. The battles felt boring after a while and I'm not so sure that the unintuitive movement pattern is the way to go, even after you figure it out.

Units are kind of disposable, unless they're not, giving a HoMnM vives; if they destroy your main guy, feels like you've already lost. Not sure that's the right way to go with 4X.

Game's not bad, just not my scene.

There's very little to not like about this game outside the problem of pacing. Even at the slowest ebb, it seems to go too fast! You can't enjoy your troops before you or another has reached a new era or better technologies. Sometimes it feels more like a race rather than something you can think about and enjoy before choosing a path to take. It is varied, diverse, entertaining, and engaging in all senses! I near perfect 4X game!

I give it a 9/10!

Highly recommended for anyone who is depressed. It's pretty, the music is relaxing, and it's easy to get lost in the satisfying processes of exploring, building, and going on quests. There's a bit of a learning curve, but some factions are pretty easy to learn. Anyway, this game got me through a really rough patch, and it's very special to me for that.

Pro Depressed Tip: Play as the Allayi and just collect pearls. So, so relaxing.

Endless Legend introduces the player to beautiful world of fantasy / sci-fi and strategic decisions. The game is like many 4X games complex, but I think it is part of the charm. Factions are really distinct and there are no two that play the same (I lie, Mezari and Vaulters are basically the same faction). Graphics, music and lore are breathtaking. Worth the money for sure. :)

Endless Legend is probably the best of the 4 major 4X games Amplitude has to offer, but I need to specify something critical before you buy. For me, part of the strength of the game is its simplicity. The tech tree is pretty intuitive, regions are well defined, FIDS and extracted mats are easy to comprehend. Battles are only a little trickier to understand, but since they are turn based, you have all the time you need to assess the situation. Diplomacy may be the hardest to grasp because the AI is really fickle here. Prob the weakest part of the game without mods. If you want additional layers of complexity, that's all in the DLC, where you have new mats, espionage, and terraforming to worry about.

All that said, the general ease of access makes it to get get into and try out the base factions. This game might be boring for people used to more complicated 4x games. Or maybe something less taxing is good.

The lore and atmosphere of Arugia are second to none. It looks pretty, it sounds grandiose, and it has a good mix of sci-fi and high fantasy elements that somehow just feel right together. You have space marines and their war with the blood mages. You have two flavors of wealth obsession in traders and souls of the damned bound in armor. In the DLC, you have little obsidian people who literally want to watch the world burn and a cordycep but is actually a benevolent hivemind.

At this point, I would not really recommend this game at full price. It is older, and again, lacks some depth you might want in a strategy game. Fortunately, it goes on sale often.

If dragons looking to bring about world peace while bugs destroy it, all while some weird metal dude is pontificating about his robot mommy sounds like a weird but fun conceit for a chill game, you might like what Endless Legend has to offer.

Endless Legend is the best of the 4X genre refined into one experience. The influences of Civ and Age of Wonders are strong, and Amplitude learned a lot from Endless Space and puts their own emphasis on having extremely distinct factions with vastly different styles of play. Plus, as an entry in the Endless series, you can expect tons of interesting lore and a stellar soundtrack.

If you enjoy grand strategy games, you'll find a lot that's familiar and a lot that's new in this exceptional game. It's fantastic!

I'm a huge Civilization V player, that game appeals to me and my friends because of it's simple yet addicting gameplay. I consider Endless Legend like one step above Civilization V. It's a bit more complex, but just as addicting. I do wish I had the ability to turn off the more frequent winters as the game progresses though. I'm fine with winter being a mechanic, I just wish I could endlessly play the game without the end of the world looming closer and closer.

Endless Legend was a unique 4X game that did a lot of new things and a lot of interesting changes at that, with a unique novelty graphic that really made the atmosphere in the game accompanied by great music.

At this point it's somewhat an old classic, but firing up today just reminded me what a gem this game is. I would highly recommend this game for anyone who enjoys 4X with more advanced combat mechanics than Civ. It has very unique factions that play widely different from one another and have unique mechanics which gives the game a lot of replayability.

I was sad to find out that Amplitudes next game was Humankind instead of Endless Legend 2, but who knows - one day in the future we might still get it.

As far as 4x games go I would say this one can make a claim for the top example.

The presentation in visual style and music is amazing. Since the factions are various fanatasy races you have imposing dragons all the way to creepy insect swarms.
I love the design of the environment as well.

The gameplay is the usual mix of balancing resources expanding the territoy researching new technologies etc.
Its not too punishing to make mistakes but it can feel like you are only ever playing catchup and never reaching power.

The standout feature to me is the faction system that can radically alter your gameplay style. For example there is a race that skips the gameplay loop of food entirely. These have their own looks and vibe and more importqantly their own quests. You can actually win a game by finishing your quest. I dont know of any other 4x games that let you just win like that.

Multiplayer is stable and fun and more importantly if one person has all DLCs everyone can use them, take note Civ.
Singleplayer is fun to explore the storyline of the factions but even the harder difficulty AI cant really pose a challenge if you are good enough so this is only a many hour project if you have friends.

It should be noted that the experience can feel incomplete without the DLCs. At the time of writing the game and its DLCs are 75% off and thats the best moment to strike honestly. If you see a deal like that again and the trailers and screenshots of the store page seemed interesting, dont think twice, grab it.

I am not a Civ player. I'm not a 4X player. I really want to like this game as I love the fantasy setting over Civ.

And I do like it, but I can't seem to want to play it anymore. I've done 3 games and feel like I've experienced it more than enough and understand how to go about it. I just don't feel any urge to want to do it more :/.

As an inexperience 4X gamer and there not being a neutral option, it is unfair not to give it a positive, just know that it may not grab your attention.

As of Autumn of 2021 I have to say that Endless Legend - with all expansions AND most importantly the Community Patch mod - is the best, most nuanced 4X Civilization-like game on the market.
It wasn't always so, the AI and quest scripting were in a bad state for years even when the art, music and writing were astounding from the beginning.
Further patches and the Community Mod made it a game to dethrone Civ, there's so much more to do and micromanage and with the community patch the AI can surprise you in a lot of ways (properly using all the systems like trade, stealth, espionage, mercenaries).

My only two issues are #1 - the UI, which is pretty, but hard to read especially for new players and #2 - that it took a community modder that doesn't even work for them to fix the game better than two professional studios could. Without the community fixes it wouldn't be nearly the same game.

Having recently purchased Humankind, I figured I'd give these developers last big Civlike strategy game, this one, another spin. I've always been a fan of the developers and recall liking this game but never getting much beyond the tutorial in the past. While man of its unique mechanics took a bit to fully grasp, I really love how each race plays VERY differently with their own unique units, structures, techs, and inherit abilities (unlike Civilization, or even Humankind, in which the different cultures only mildly differentiate themselves from one another).

You can really see a lot of the systems they'd later work into Humankind, and while not as slick looking as Humankind, it's nice to see a game fully refined by these developers whereas Humankind still has a lot of growing pains (bugs and balance issues) to be resolved before it reaches its full power.

Dreadful combat system. You've got to love games where your units stand and watch whilst enemies wander around behind them, and hit them. There are good bits about it, but I got it to play war, and it's very poor at that.

As someone who used to play a lot of Civ games, I find this far more interesting. There's lore, first of all, and not just boring alt-history stuff, it's the same cool sci-fi/fantasy hybrid universe as the rest of the Endless games. I dig that genre, so that helps a lot. Secondly, combat takes place in a superimposed layer on top of the world map, so you get some turn-based tactics involved as well which Civ games are sorely lacking.

Each faction plays differently, has their own story quest, and their own tactics and style. Some of them, especially from the DLCs, play quite uniquely. You can also make your own custom faction by picking and choosing traits which allows for a pretty high degree of customization. Worldgen has fairly varied parameters as well allowing for a good degree of replayability.

Haven't touched multiplayer, so I can't comment on the balance or performance there, but it's a solid singleplayer experience.

Great game I've had it for years, Don't know what took me so long to rate it. It took me a few tries to really get into it, its pacing is different than say Civ and kind of turned me off at first, Research era's can almost come too quick but really its just different and works just fine in its own way. I would recommend the Vaulters/Mezari or the Wind Walkers for a first time playthrough if you want more slightly more traditional 4x mechanics.

Over all though the game is set in a wonderful universe and all the Endless games are slightly connected. For some fun background on the vaulters play Dungeon of the Endless,

Truly involving game that will literally suck up hours of your free time. I nice SF/Fantasy alternative to CIV, and it serves as a great complimentary game to Endless Space II. Both of the Endless games are fun to play, and very different from CIV. The games allow for a very detailed level of combat, or you can go automatic and continue onward. Major and Minor races are interesting and well designed.

If you like 4X strategy games, then this should be in your collection.

Good game, It took me a while to learn. I got the hang of it through trial and error. I didnt have patients for the tutorial. Reminds me of the modern Civ games mixed with quests and fantasy elements. Unlike Civ your influence doesnt expand your borders but you spend it while interacting with other nations. There seems to be more incentive to interact with other nations also. One game is gonna take hours. So be prepared for that.

I want to like this game. I really enjoy civ and other 4x games. But I just hate the battle system in EL so much that I just can't stand playing it. Everytime I give it a try, I regret it.
First off, you really don't know how well you stack up against another army until it is too late. On the map you see the unit count, but you don't see the strength. Once you are setting up battle, then you can see how close things are.
You have 3 choices:
Retreat. All your units take 50% damage. The other army will most likely just re-engage you next turn, so unless you have a plan, you should never do this.

Auto battle. Just calculate an outcome based on the strengths. Problem with this is that you will most likely loose one of your units. Even if you have 2:1 odds, your a strong mobile unit, one that that can take a few hits and could easily run back to safety once wounded, they are just as likely to die.

Manual battle, and this is where I truely can't stand EL. The everything else would be perfectly acceptable, if it were not for the manual battle. In manual battle, it is turn based, you give commands to all your units, and then based on a units initiative (which I really don't know how to find out), they go in order.
The problem is that you just can't keep your units in formation. Your slow titan infantry are constantly overrun by your ranged units, or at least, the archer moves right in front of your titan, with 1 move, so the titan is forced to move somewhere stupid. You can try and work around that, giving your units tiles to move to, and they will attack an enemy if possible, and then you can make sure your infantry is always ahead of your ranged units. But then you come across some enemies that have fast cavalry, and since you gave your orders based on where they were, you can have your units moving away from the enemy.

I am old, I play games to reduce frustration. This is not that game.

The UI is very hard to read on my screen and no scaling option is available. I'm not sure if the reason I feel like this game does a poor job explaining its mechanics is that it actually does explain them but I just can't find or read the explanations, or if it really doesn't. It took me half a campaign to figure out how to use the morgawr's ability to take control of neutral units, and another half a campaign to realize that vaulter units can teleport between cities because I just never saw a button to do that.

This game has a few neat novel twists on the Civ formula, but while I was playing it I kept finding myself wishing I were playing Alpha Centauri instead. It's definitely praise to say that this game reminded me of Alpha Centauri in a lot of ways; factions that play pretty differently from each other, unit customization, looming ecological catastrophe that affects gameplay, stories woven into Civ-style gameplay, science structure diverging from the standard tree (albeit in different directions).

But when I play Alpha Centauri, I can read the darn text without straining my eyes.

This game pretends to have far more depth than it really does.

There are a lot of options but you're in an arms race where you need to keep pushing up the tech trees if you want to stay relevant. There are many techs that are basically mandatory and you don't have time to waste unlocking extra techs once the next tier is unlocked.

There are also a lot of mechanics that are overly complex while doing very little.

It's bloated and unpleasant to learn and play.

Immensely unsatisfying to play. The UI is ridiculous, teeny tiny icon and UI elements that need constant mouse-overs to decipher what they do or where anything is. I spent half the time looking around for the commands or elements I wanted to interact with. Made by some mouth breathing minimalist hieroglyph fanboi. Great story and lore, shame it's wasted with such a poor delivery. I literally just stare at the screen mousing over everything trying to figure out what I'm looking for or what I'm supposed to do, the icons are just terrible.
I want to like it, I've tried to get back into it a few times, but it's such an unintuitive slog to try to play through that I just get sleepy and quit.

Endless Legend is a wonderful 4X game, and I strongly recommend you buy it if you have any interest in the genre. Even if you don’t, well, it’s an accessible and compelling starting point. The core gameplay loop is rock-solid, and enlivened by novel seasonal mechanics, unique factions, quests and heroes. The art is wonderful, a tilt-shifted toy fantasy landscape reminiscent of the Game of Thrones opening sequence, thankfully without a crushingly awful final season. The music too is top-notch, and even better comes with the option of altering the time between tracks; a feature which should be by law be present in all strategy games. I’ve happily spent dozens of hours in the company of Endless Legend, and don’t anticipate being finished with it any time soon.

There’s plenty of interesting things about Endless Legend to discuss, so let us quickly get out of the way the basic premise, which if you’ve played Civilisation or any of its peers will be instantly familiar. You begin with a single settler, hero and a couple of units. You plop down a city in an auspicious spot and set about cranking out food for your growing population, money, science for the acquisition of more and better buildings and units, and city improvements which accelerate all of the above. The constant drip-drip-drip of acquiring population, units, improvements and money makes this a compelling Skinner box of ‘one more turn’ addiction. Then you run into other empires, and usually things will degenerate rapidly into a total war where you’ll fight many more turn-based battles, grind one another down, capture their cities, and so on until you win the game.

MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD. The setting is a real treat, an original and highly imaginative fantasy with a steampunkish flavour and a carnival of weird peoples and places evocatively brought to life by the art and flavour text. It reminds me nothing else in video games, but instead China Mieville’s Bas-Lag trilogy (which, if you enjoy Endless Legend, I’d highly recommend giving a read). Set amidst the ruins of the advanced Endless civilisation on a laboratory-planet whose experiments are now running free, it becomes clear than the world is ending and that your priority must be to escape or survive. It’s a real treat to explore the storylines of some imaginative factions in this setting, including fallen space marines, a devouring swarm of insect-people, and a ghastly cult who may or may not be creepy baby-faced robots worshipping an AI. SPOILERS END.

Now Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri, in my view, perfected the story-driven 4X way back in 1999, and I bring it up because, 18 years later when it was first released, Endless Legend doesn’t quite top it. One of Alpha Centauri’s masterstrokes was to depict each faction as a recognisable contemporary ideology, reflected in their unique mechanics. Ideological warfare played out their struggles – for instance, between the pro-science University and the fundamentalist Believers – not only in the game, but in superbly-written and voice-acted snippets of flavour text. Sadly, there’s nothing so masterful or even relevant here. Amplitude, the studio behind the Endless franchise, are clearly having a lot of fun, and the riotous setting and factions are so enthusiastically and generously gifted to the player that it’s hard not to have fun too. Of course, there must be some less successful factions and ideas amidst all of this. The Ardent Mages, for instance, just seem to be wizards who are really into S&M, for some reason? The Drakken are posh dragons who want everyone to be friends? The Broken Lords are Gothic knights who are also vampires? It’s kind of a mess at times, and the writing is fair in a ‘decent video game’ way, but tends to quantity over Alpha Centauri’s quality. Some of the Endless Legend factions’ lore dovetails beautifully with their unique gameplay, such as the aforementioned Cult of the Eternal End, who have only one city, razing their conquests to the ground and enslaving the local minor factions instead. Others, such as the Drakken, are just quite good in certain domains, such as diplomacy, for reasons that are never really made clear. It’s also a shame that the early Modern-ish setting seemed not to be communicated to the unit designers, who plumped squarely for a fairly generic handful of fantasy units. It would have been lovely to see musketeers and cannon take the place of the garden-variety swordsmen, archers, knights and monsters over the course of the game. It might even have led to interesting tactical decisions, such as more primitive empires trying to swarm high-cost, high-damage artillery with truckloads of grunts. Instead, the unit designer just sees the player upgrading the same few units as technology advances, meaning your titanium-equipped swordsmen will be crushed every time by identical-looking but hyperium-equipped swordsmen with superior stats.

The AI is a problem also in the overworld map, and constitutes my main criticism of Endless Legend. At normal difficulty, the AI simply cannot compete with a capable human player. There aren’t many mechanisms in Endless Legend to prevent success from resulting in more success, meaning any empire with an initial advantage will soon snowball their way to victory. Thus, small errors made by the AI at normal difficulty typically set them up for an easy defeat by the mid-game. All that higher difficulty levels do is endow the AI with unfair boosters, which will guarantee their victory unless the player intervenes. I found ‘Hard’ difficulty enjoyably challenging for pursuing conquest-based victories. Yet whether it’s even possible to triumph at harder difficulties than this seems quite sensitive to initial conditions, with even greater boosters seeing AI empires even more rapidly snowballing out of reach of the player’s ability to reverse, with the risk than a high-tech army can simply turn up at your capital and curb-stomp you without any recourse. I’d much prefer to be beaten by a more capable AI, ‘fair and square.’ Alternatively, fleshing out the rudimentary diplomacy and economic systems would allow underdog empires greater options for defeating a superior foe; by forming coalitions, for instance, or wrecking their economy. This would allow for interesting late-game struggles, where currently it’s just a question of how quickly the dominant empire will hack its way through the surviving opposition.

One final quick word on expansions. There’s a cheap music pack and minor faction quest pack which are undoubtedly worth picking up. Beyond this, Amplitude offer their usual rather baffling array of pricier expansions, somewhat vulgarly advertised within the base game, and which add complexity but not necessarily refinement. Guardians is probably worth picking up for the addition of wonders and ‘empire achievements,’ though ironically not the titular guardians, which I found to be more trouble than they’re worth due to the associated technology costs. I’ve heard more mixed reviews of the other expansions, haven’t personally picked them up, and don’t plan to. I’m not certain the base game would be improved by more to do, but rather improvement of a few core gameplay elements as mentioned above.

I’ve spent a lot of this review nitpicking, and this really reflects Endless Legend’s success. I’ve had such a good time with this game that I’ve had plenty of opportunity to consider its few missteps. Endless Legend is a characterful, innovative and rock-solid 4X with beautiful art and an infectious, anything-goes enthusiasm for its riotous fiction. It’s easy to recommend as a top-notch example of the genre. Endless Legend is just a few design decisions away from challenging past masters such as Alpha Centauri; which, needless to say, you should check out if you haven’t already.

My first civilization simulator and I have to say it has gotten me to embrace the genre. I recommend this game because the learning curve is not to steep and the fantasy aspect keeps you engaged in the narrative that follows each faction.

Combat system is simply terrible, which one could probably stomach if the rest of the game were great, but it's not. When compared to other grand strategy games such as Civ5, EU4, or even Stellaris, this one is underwhelming at its best, and atrocious at its worst.

Each faction is unique both thematically and in terms of gameplay. My only real gripes are that the AI can be a bit unassertive and battles take time, slowing down multiplayer. The setting is really nice, though I do feel that the ages advance too quickly and would've preferred a more medieval than space-age aesthetic to certain elements.

That being said, I really, really like Endless Legend. The idea to blend story and theme into a 4X strategy game really helps it stand out.

14 hours to get through one race's playthrough.

THAT is what we call Return on Investment.

You know how I know it's a good game? When I finished, I stepped outside and felt like I no longer belonged to the real world. I've been on the inside too long.

Insane time sink in a positive way. Only one turn more will be your new motto.

This is turn based fantasy civilization type game but the twist is it has heros 3 like battle system breath taking music, tons of vibe and suprisingly deep story scenarios for your races you are playing. When you play the swarm both the feel and playstyle mirrors everhungry swarm of insects eating on every fallen.

This game has amazing visuals and music, mechanics that you can understand and grow into. The atmosphere of the game is what captivated me to play it again and again, tremendous replay value (850+ hrs over yrs is a testament to that)

I used to grow up playing Civ LAN with friends, was never really good at it. Then a friend recommended i try it out in university. I find this game to be a lot more to my taste than the Civ franchise. I always found Civ to be a bit to complex, this was complex as well a the start but unlike Civ, i was actually able to comprehend how it worked and got the hang of it after playing a few different factions which offer much more variation.

I like to play this game on the side while watching a movie or TV show.

EL is a really enjoyable and challenging, turn based strategy game.

It is right up there with Civ 6 which I love too.

Perhaps the most attractive aspect is the inextricable interlinking of the many active aspects of the system, the game is never the same twice because of this and one's own strategic approach which is inevitably educated by previous sorties into the game environment.

I am 67 and a retired senior manager so its just like work to me. (something I loved too)

Best thing of alll - EL has a good tutorial and is easy to pick up particularly if you are accustomed to turn based strategy games.

I've put hundreds of hours into every 4X game imaginable. Endless Legends is without a doubt the BEST OF THE GENRE and the ONLY 4X GAME I NEED TO OWN. Interest in Fantasy based theme is recommended.

All of the 14 playable empires (ALL DLC OWNED) feel unique and play differently.

Resources (Strategic & Luxury) are used wonderfully for crafting, building, and empire boosts.

Technology has NO prerequisites, research what you want when you want it within each era.

Diplomacy/Espionage using Influence fixes issues I had with other games from the genre.

Equipping Units & Heroes with crafted items using Strategic resources and being able to edit/create your own custom units is a big plus.

Combat and conquering cities is not overly tedious and complicated.

City building using Districts/Expansions that level up adds another level of strategy, and Empire Plans using Influence is well done.

Beautiful game (for 2014) FULL of FLAVOR like... Questing, Quest Items, searching Ruins & Sunken Shrines, Anomalies, changing seasons (summer/winter), beautiful Dust Eclipses, The Alter of Auriga, collecting Pearls and Power Ups, Trade Routes, Guardians, Urkans, Controllable Ocean Regions, Sea Monsters, Fortesses, lots of Minor Factions to assimilate, Lots of Victory Conditions, and more!

9.5/10 Soundtrack gets old after a couple games so I use the Full Lord of The Rings soundtrack instead.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND waiting for a sale and picking up ALL DLC
THANKS!

This game does a lot of things well and a lot of things poorly. I've been playing 4X games like Civ for a long time, but I'm no expert. This game drew me in at first—it has all the micromanagey goodness I look for, and the factions are so unique that you'll spend your first hour with a faction just trying to read all of the things it can do. But after two full, enjoyable, single-player playthroughs, I think I'm done with the game.

Reasons I'm done, despite the game being enjoyable:
1. Lore - The designers clearly put a lot of love into the game. The factions are so diverse and unique from many other games. They put all of the cliches into the non-playable minor armies, where they belong. And yet, they didn't build much of a lore for their factions. Sure, there are brief descriptions of the factions and quests that give a little more flavor, but they each really need a single player campaign to bring them to life.
2. City uniformity - While each city seems like a strategic venture at its establishment, by turn 50 all cities look and act the same. You feel like you're making strategic decisions in the early going, only to find out you optimized this city just like you did all of the others.
3. Navigating the map - The map is beautiful, but it gets so detailed that it is hard to see where cliffs and ridges are, making you backtrack from inaccessible routes that you could have only seen if you zoomed in the whole way.
4. Combat - It's really cool at first. But after a few fights, it is very monotonous. You'll find yourself autocombatting all but the most dramatic fights.
5. Research - I really like the idea of the research system, especially its era-by-era achievements. Yet picking a research path is hard because there's so much text to read, and unless you invest a lot of time it's hard to see how technologies synergize.

As a single-player only player, this game has a lot of really interesting ideas and great packaging, but it's just missing the polish that ties it together. If you're a 4X superfan, you should probably play this and get into the multiplayer. If you're just a hobby gamer, prepare to be wowed initially only to wonder what could have been.

This is what any game of the genre should try to be: a good strategy game with an authentic story and unique art.
Endless Legend is beautiful and perfect in every detail, from the concept to interface, from the mesmerizing detailed map to its inspiring music.
You will find a compelling universe, with characters and factions woven in fascinating stories.
Game is truly lovely and elegant in terms of art and soundtrack.
Do expect many many hours of fun, balaced between stimulating strategy and relaxation.
This is a wonderful strategy game and a true work of art.
I earnestrly recommend it.

I’ll shamelessly admit it, I picked this game up solely because of its looks. One the biggest challenges turn-based strategies face is to convey cascades of information through the UI in a way that’s convenient and comprehensible to the player. Endless Legend not only does that, but wraps everything up in the most stylish presentation I’ve ever seen in a video game. It’s straight up gorgeous and the mesmerizing soundtrack only adds to the overall experience. Mechanic wise, the resource management is very transparent and after I memorized all of the currencies, micro-managing every aspect of my empire became a treat. The combat is turn-based and a little rough around the edges. There are many instances where units can’t execute your orders and then the AI steps in to screw you over. On a sale, the game is a bargain and even without the numerous DLCs, you’ll be getting countless hours of quality content.

In my opinion it's really good game similiar to Civ games but i have one big problem i hate upgrading units with new armors, bow, swords etc it's boring as hell in my opinion. This game also has a one huge advantage it's a representive world. i have never seen better concept than this. They used the same world in three totally different games (endless space and endless dugeon). It's better to play with a friends becouse playing solo is kinda boring.

2014: Being a completed and fully featured product upon release, Endless Legend was the best 4x game when it came out. People were recommending this over the latest installment of the established grand-daddy 4x franchise at the time Civ V. And these people were right. Stand alone Civ V (no DLCs) was a mess. Endless Legend was the superior product then scratching that 4x itch Civ V failed to.

2020: comparing the 2 games now with all available DLCs: Endless Legend's DLCs are inconsistent. They range from good, to pointless, to Symbiosis (the only DLC I feel is genuinely awful). This is weird for me to say, but the additions make Endless Legend feel bloated. Game was well balanced upon release, and Amplitude hasn't really adjusted or rebalanced Endless Legend to accommodate the DLC additions. If they did, they didn't do it well like they didn't have a clear cut or well thought out plan for DLCs. Sega acquiring Amplitude likely has something to do with that.

Contrasted with Civ V and all its DLCs (particularly the Brave New World expansion), Civ V becomes the better game by simply adding features and complexity that was supposed to be there in the first place.

In fact, Civ V BNW makes Endless Legend feel dated by 4x standards. Civ V + BNW is balanced so differently, and so well, its entirely possible to win the game with only 1 city and completely fail by building too many. Civ V forces the player to plan territorial expansion since over building can easily cripple your empire and ruin your chances of winning.

This balancing is something Endless Legend lacks. The game does punish over expansion, but the penalty is easily and quickly overcome once you figure the game out. The AI can be crushed on almost any difficulty by spam rushing settlers to gobble up any unclaimed territory between turns 75-100, parking an army outside the 1 city the dumb AI will try to conquer, and ensuring your most productive cities don't drop below content status. In addition to that, its extremely easy to exploit the game's mechanics once you've gotten familiar. Know what techs to rush and even the hardest difficulty becomes too easy and boring.

Anyway, I still recommend Endless Legend. Not perfect, but still great. I think Civ V Complete Edition is the better game though (can't compare to Civ VI. Haven't played it. And I refuse to buy it until all its expansions are released)

Better than Civ! Each faction plays differently, and comes with its own storyline. Really great 4X game. It's like the Civilization games, with more micro-management. Each of the factions, the EL equivalent of Civ's countries, all feel different and unique, each one having their own sets of pros and cons, and each one having their own unique way of interacting with the world around them. Something that I really fell in love with is the unique story-quest line that each faction has.

This game is definitely not beginner-friendly, even you're a Civ casual, learning Endless Legend may give you a hard time. There are a lot more thing to tinker and toy with, and the AI in the higher difficulty can be all out brutal. 2 thumbs up from me.

Fun sandbox game to play so far. Definitely a Civilization type of game set in a fantasy world. Has been fairly easy to learn and pickup but clearly seems complex to learn and master. Enjoying my time tinkering around. Lots of trial and error in my first play through. Not much is available in tutorial or in any kind of a help menu for reference which is a bit frustrating, but has also been engaging to try to figure everything out. Endless Legend was my first 4X experience, and I can say I was absolutely thrilled to play it. The graphics, the artwork, the lore, and the music all beautifully add to a complex yet mind-soothing game that is different every time you play. The factions are well-balanced, yet unique enough to warrant exploring each one. The only issue that I came across is that when playing against the AI, they plateau in difficulty around mid-game when playing on the hard/serious setting (it gets ridiculous if playing on a higher difficulty) and the challenge starts to wane. Still a great game, all things considered.

Endless Legend is a decent 4X game on the surface, but even with all this time and new DLC, a lot of bugs and balance issues were never addressed. For example, some of the quests you can get are literally impossible to complete due to bugs in the system. Years later, these quests were never dealt with. The game's got some really cool ideas, but so long as the developers keep pumping out new content without ever fixing the main issues, I can't recommend it.

Endless Legend is a 4X game in the epic sense of the Civilization series, but with some major differences, not enough to make is harder to understand though. I have put in quite a few hours into the game and have really enjoyed everything about the game, the graphics, the sound, the many ways you can win at the game as well as the story line that runs through the game. The story permeates all things. When you build improvements a very nice write up about things is included. There is lore dropped all around in the game. And one of the biggest differences between this game and Civ is the inclusion of heroes that level up and can be equipped with weapons and armor and talismans too, to make your hero into a specialized lean mean fighting machine to lead armies of great units or the hero can be spiffed out to stay in your cities and be a governor of epic proportions to build your city into a science, food, dust (think gold) or industrial bastion. Governor's can also help with the defense of the city.

I own the Emperor's edition of Endless Legend and if I understand correctly you can pick from one of 8 civilizations to play as. There is also very good DLC's for the game that add more civs/leaders to the game as well. I played the tutorial for the game but was left to fend for myself looking for guides to help me out even more with a few things that I just wasn't getting the hang of through the tutorial. Luckily, there are some very good guides and videos to fill in the gaps. Now that I have played a few games I am pretty content with my game knowledge and only have a few things left to get in depth info on before I can say I know the game pretty well.

Another intriguing part of the game is that you can do quests as you play. There is a civilization quest as well as other faction and non-related quests too. In fact you can win the game by completing your special quest line. Other ways to win a game is time (set number of turns/high point wins), capturing all capitals, wiping out all other civilizations, building a special wonder, expansion, economic, science and diplomatic.

The game also has steam workshop abilities for those that like to delve into mods! So if you are a 4x fan I highly recommend this game, even if you have other 4x games and think this may be to many. There is many differences from other 4x games to keep you happy with new things to tinker with. Did I mention I love the graphics? I give it a 10/10.

Really enjoy this game. I feel that it is pretty complete in terms of gameplay. The only area I feel it is lacking quality is combat. It's not the worst combat system in the world, but I wish it would have been more tactical and fun, rather than just 3 basic buttons and RNG of hits and misses. I hope a sequel to this game addresses this issue, or maybe an update. Hopefully and update so I don't have to pay for two games.

Introduction

Whilst there being obvious successful factions that will dominate the game e.g broken lords, this game is still very fun. The base game itself is quite interesting, adding a bunch of factions with its own unique mechanic such as The Cultists restricting itself to only one city and the Drakken which can force peace and alliance with other players. This game works with a FISDI system, Food, Industry, Science, Dust, Influence.

FIDSI Endless Legends What it actually means
FOOD Food to grow population within your city (this will mean you can distribute workers into certain areas to boost any FIDSI)
INDUSTRY Industry to produce buildings and units (buildings and units require a certain amount of industry in total which will be accumulated over time depending on your cities industry output
Dust Dust is the currency of the game (this can be used to rush production in your city, buy various resources as boosters or to produce special units and buildings)
Science Science is used to research new buildings, units, and bonuses specific to your faction.
Influence Influence is used to trade with other factions, you can trade resource, cities, dust, research with AI and this is used to trade with players also

In this strategic turn-based strategy game the AI difficulty at normal feels quite comfortable however over time does get too easy once you develop a strategy, however that does change as you increase the difficulty and see a power shift in yourself and the AI score. I usually disable score victory as it forces an actual non-time based victory condition to be met e.g economic or diplomatic or elimination. This game has many different victory types with each faction specialising in each however you can still work a strategy around different victory types, this is clear in the faction the Broken Lords which I do however have a problem with.

The Cons

 • In this game the Broken Lords are probably the most broken faction, hence the name, they are able to use dust, which is the currency of the game to create your population with an increasing amount of dust required each time you spend. If you create a custom faction with the Broken Lords, you can break this dust production to the point where you may be able to gain more than one worker per turn which is not exactly meant to be achieved. After this since dust production is very high you may be able to win an economic victory very easily, or buy units and rush units and achieve elimination/domination victory if that is your preferred way of doing it.
 • The DLC can be quite expensive by itself, waiting for a sale especially for a bundle for the game and entire amount of DLC is definitely worth the price

The Pros

 • Definitely allot of fun by yourself for a while, and with friends.
 • Broken Lords is definitely a faction to play if you're looking for an enjoyable easy victory
 • Achievements are fairly easy to get, you can win any AI difficulty with diplomacy.
 • FIDSI system is very easy to understand and eventhough the game has a steep learning curve, it is easy to pick up to begin with

I recommend getting this bundle when it is discounted. Dungeon of the Endless is also another decent game made by the same company with the same FIDSI system and as a generated dungeon crawler is quite fun

Amplitude studios really knows how to make great 4x games. Endless Legend was my first purchase from Amplitude Studios and years later, it's become my favorite 4x game. Every DLC adds more replayability with new races and mechanics. Each race is totally different from each other and offer different ways to play the game. It's a beautiful game, with an excellent soundtrack and a wonderful UI. It draws you into its world for hours with lots of strategic choices. If you love 4x games, especially fantasy 4x games, now is the time to purchase the EL collection. Well done AS, you have managed to create a perfect gaming experience, one that I will enjoy for many years ahead.

Great for everyone who likes fantasy and 4X games. Combat's the weakest part though
