Über das Spiel
Among the stories spread around the surrounding villages, legends involving cannibalism, black magic, sects and all kinds of superstitions were heard.
It was also said that Juan Torres was the heir of a large fortune and, somehow, with no claim raised against him, he and his family managed to control the entire town and establish their own law.
The family was made up of Juan, Celia Torres and his only child, Jeronimo.

Also insgesamt ein schönes atmosphärisches Horror Game.

1. The World - Doorways: Holy Mountains of Flesh takes place in what can only be described as a hellscape of a floating village. The location doesn't really fit the previous two games settings, which consisted of a mine, hospital, sewer, etc. In the previous two games, the protagonist Thomas Foster would constantly question where he was and if any of it were real. In the third game, he just...doesn't. Its like the hellscape in front of him is a perfectly normal place. Its not really a setting that really makes sense for this game, but more for the game Doom.
Enemy Design - The enemies you face in Doorways: Holy Mountain of Flesh are a huge step back from what was previously encountered in the other games. The enemies in this game don't seem to be programmed very well, and on several occasions, I found myself getting killed through objects and through walls. The AI doesn't need to follow a direct path to you. As long as they are spawned and you're near, the game will literally drag the player towards the enemy instead of them needing to make contact. The final boss who's supposed to be the biggest tyrant of the three is a complete pushover and is not horrifying in the slightest.
Puzzle Design - I've played a LOT of puzzle games in my time, and never have I needed to look up solutions to puzzles more than when I played this game. The puzzles don't make sense. One puzzle has you combining liquid solutions together. The note for the recipe states you need 600 ml of one solvent, but the container only goes up to 5. The correct solution is filling the container to 3. The other two solvents require 200 ml each but you're only required to put one pump of each in. It makes NO sense.
Later on, you come to a moving room puzzle. This puzzle is the biggest mind**** in puzzle game history. I spent an hour and fifteen minutes trying to figure this puzzle out for myself before I ultimately gave up and looked for a guide online. I'm so thankful I did too, because there's no way in hell I'd ever have figured it out. I'm still baffled as to how the solution makes any sense. Oh wait! it doesn't!
The final puzzle in the game isn't bad because its hard, its bad because the game literally has you playing pipe dream to make platforms. Yeah. Puzzle Dream, where you match pipes to match the flow of liquid from point A to point B. Where are the creative puzzles from the first two games? What is this crap? AWFUL!
The Ending - Now obviously I'm NOT going to say exactly what happens during the ending, but you can pretty much guess from playing this final game what's going to happen. I jokingly and sarcastically said to myself during act two what would be funny for an ending, and ended up facepalming at the fact that what I said was what actually occurred. Its the laziest most predictable ending to most games/movies.
Now despite all the negativity, there is some positive things I would like to point out. Its nice that there are mirrors in the game so you can see your character. I really loved and appreciated Sam Mowry (The voice actor for the main character Thomas Foster, who also did Alexander in Amnesia: The Dark Descent) lending his voice through the entire trilogy. A lot of the bugs that I encountered in the first two games (including that ANNOYING Alt-Tab bug) were not present in this iteration. There are a couple light-based puzzles in the game, but their inclusion was very short and left me hungering for more.
Overall, I just wish that Doorways: Holy Mountains of Flesh had the same theme and charm that the first two games had. The over-exaggerated and unquestioned world combined with some of the most convoluted puzzles and writing left me feeling disappointed in the end. Ultimately, I cannot recommend Doorways: Holy Mountains of Flesh.

Short version: 79%
Despite spending half an eternity in public beta, the final chapter of Doorways not only learnt from the numerous mistakes of the previous episodes but also managed to surpass them to mature into an atmospheric, gripping indie horror puzzle-platformer.
Long version:
I’ll be honest: I didn’t have much hope for this one. It took quite some time for the game to move outside Early Access and the developers handed out an alarming amount of free keys on various sites. Everything pointed to a cobbled-together hack job, but thankfully, the truth is the exact opposite. Holy Mountains of Flesh is probably the best episode of the Doorways saga: it took the best aspect of the previous chapters (building the atmosphere as we go deeper and deeper into the psychic landscape of some deranged serial killers) and removed most of the bad stuff (like endless chases through boring mazes or most of the clunky platforming).
Its store price is justified by expanding the final segment into three scenarios, as we track down not one, but three different murderers, a family of insane killers. All of their minds have a distinct level design that have their own set of gimmicks, ranging from jump scares to chase sequences or simply just presenting a level where the player’s fear of the unknown provides the most effective tool.
The story is also more palpable. Our protagonist is tougher than in the Underworld and his thoughts on his job reveal an angle that was not present previously, but add another incredible element to the storytelling, as we delve deeper into his psyche as well. What awaits the long-time players at the end of that road will be something that makes the entire series worth it, even with the previous ups and downs.
