Dishonored is a fantastic game that puts you in a playground of murder and stealth while still keeping focused on an interesting story in a rich and enthralling world. It's not quite as large, as open, or as well-written as other games like Bioshock, but it stands as a solid spiritual successor to one of the better PC games. It's
a bit of Bioshock mixed with some Thief - Deadly Shadows and Rage, and it's even worth a look today because the graphics are still nice.

Dieses Review ist komplett spoilerfrei

Story

Fazit

Dishonored macht eigentlich alles richtig was man richtig machen kann.

I normally don't like games where you must sneak around a lot, but this game was different and allowed you to play a variety of different ways. You could be the stealthed assassin sneaking in and quietly executing people, go in guns blazing (or have a brawl if you actually alert someone), or even sneak past everyone and attempt to be never seen.

The upgrades to your abilities by exploring and collecting Runes made the game rewarding to play a bit slower, and make sure you had completed each area fully before proceeding to the next.

Played this on Steam Deck and found it immensely fun after dropping it when I bought it 9 years ago on PC. Definitely looking forward to buying and playing the 2nd one now!

Aided by the loyalists and dishonored by his own people, Corvo must become the ultimate assassin and wreak havoc in the name of vengeance, seek justice with honor and integrity, or take the middle approach and give society what it deserves; the choice is yours.

Starting with graphics, they stand out artistically and get the job done at transporting you into this beautiful world begging to be explored. In terms of level design, they are detailed and vast, setting as a playground for you to experiment in with a wide array of means at your disposal. The atmosphere is thick and pulls you right in. Story wise, it’s deep, intelligent and filled with great characters, friends and foes alike. If interested, hours upon hours can be spent reading scattered content or listening in on NPCs. And speaking of choices, Dishonored shines amongst most competition in regards to players’ flexibility. Controls are fluid and enhance the overall experience, making each playthrough feel unique and most importantly fun.

I can’t think of single negative about this game. Sound design and voice work are top notch. The game has very few bugs. I loved the AI. Even if you don’t like these types of games, don’t think twice about trying it out.

Dishonored

It doesn't last as long as my other reviews. I just want to add a few words here. It is the 10-Year Anniversary after all. While not playing Dishonored for a few years I totally forgot how good this game is. Well, It could have been better back then and could be better now. A bit more complex, polished and deeper, but the core elements are almost perfect. And it certainly aged very well. Like a good wine. The main theme about the plague and people's overuse of its power is point on in times like these. It's one of those games that definitely deserves a remake at some point.
And this ending song. I could listen to it all day. A real masterpiece. Also the first time I played the DLCs and besides this awful Challenger-Pack the other two DLCs, The Knife of Dunwall and The Brigmore Witches are really great.

If for some reason you never played it, you can always pick it up and correct your mistake. Better late than never. Get the Definitive Edition on sale and enjoy one of the all time greats.

Take note - this is how to design a game.

Dishonoured is an immersive sim set in a grimy world, where you get revenge on a cabal of unsavoury rich people.
It's also one of the best designed games I've ever played.

It gives the player a lot more respect than other games would have the courage to do. Other games would tell the player most of the necessary information through either lengthly cutscenes or an NPC whispering instructions in your ear of what to do next. In Dishonoured, most of this information comes from in-game dialogue between NPCs. You have to actually listen in to enemy conversations in order to get information about your targets' behaviour and weaknesses. This builds immersion: the game rarely needs to take you out of the experience in order to tell its story. Of course, you can just ignore the conversations completely - the game won't stop you, and you'll still be able to complete each level just fine.
That's because of the game's fantastic level design. In each mission the target is holed up in a highly visible building that stands out from the surrounding environment. I turned off objective markers for the entire game and never once got lost or unsure of where to go next (I would encourage all players to play with markers off, it really adds to the immersion and forces you to take in the environment more).
The levels themselves are fantastically open, with vertical movement being a core focus. I've often believed all the stealth games in the world can be marked on a spectrum from 'hunted' to 'hunter' - are you hiding from an unstoppable enemy, or are you sneaking up on an unaware victim? In dishonoured, you're certainly the hunter. Equipped with the ability to teleport, you can climb basically every surface and approach situations from entirely new angles. If you invest in some acrobatic abilities, you can bypass virtually every encounter in the game by using rooftops to climb past them. Some might view this is overpowered, but in dishonoured it's just another way of approaching the game.
Which brings us to the concept of player agency.
Dishonoured is a stealth game at heart, but the form that stealth takes is up to the player. You could
A) Be stealthy because you were never noticed, in and out like a ghost
B) Be stealthy game because you meticulously assassinated everyone in your way one by one and threw the bodies in a river or
C) Be stealthy because nobody is alive enough to say otherwise.
The game encourages this by making every tool at your disposal equally powerful. Sword strikes, grenades, sleep darts, razor traps, bullets, rat swarms: they all neutralise enemies instantly. Or you could possess a rat or jump to a rooftop to sneak past the guards without having to use any consumables and without them every knowing you were there.
The world is a sandbox playground where every strategy is equally viable.
In other games they might have tried to balance every option, to make sure that every playstyle had the same amount of strength. But fun should always come first, and that's something dishonoured understands. Instead of making encounters designed to counter specific playstyles in the name of balance, dishonoured leans in the opposite direction - guards stand on high ledges that they can be blasted off, explosive cans are left out in the open for you to pick up and throw, groups of enemies stand in clustered groups where a razor trap is guaranteed to take them all out instantly.
Dishonoured encourages every playstyle equally. It's only unfortunate, then, that the player's actions are reduced to a moral binary at the end of the game - massacre everyone, and you get a bad ending. Kill a moderately low amount of people, and everything is rosy at the end. I will admit that the fact that the world changes as you head toward these two binaries is a nice touch.

The story itself is quite a simple revenge narrative but it's still sufficiently engaging. There are some fun characters, some good worldbuilding, and it's mostly told without cutscenes, which is always a plus. It could probably use with more setup before everything goes to hell, and could have been a bit more adventurous, but it allows the player to get immersed in the world and creates some cool narrative moments, which in my eyes is enough.

TL;DR: Great game, great design, if you like being in control of the narrative and/or world it's a must-buy.

Loved the story, art and style which is mostly fantastic. The gameplay can suffer from some poor movement actions as in in it's not always clear where you will be tele-porting to a ledge or into thin air. The enemies don't vary too much, so it does become a bit same same. Still, for a game that is apparently 10 years old, still runs perfectly fine on Windows 10 and still looks fresh.

I am late to the party reviewing this game and it is one of my top five games of all time (the whole Dishonored series actually is). I adore these games truthfully, the artwork, the characters and the story. I highly recommend buying the full Definitive Edition as the DLC's are just as good and flesh out the main game.

The game holds up well for its age and I have played it on ultra wide screen with no problems or crashes on my current set-up. I won't go into the game details, it is an old enough game that there is a slew of reviews and videos out there to show you what the game is all about.

So yes even after all these years this is one of those games that still deserves to be played and experienced if you enjoy dynamic, fun, and intense games that let you be as stealthy as you wish to be flying over roof-tops with multiple avenues for taking out the baddies. ⚔️

A masterpiece for me. It has a compelling not so complicated plot, its gameplay mechanics are great especially for stealth. It gives the player a choice; either you clean your name or be a JOHN WICK MURDER MACHINE. The concept of its world and its roots set the stage for a fantastic lore. Although buggy at times it's expected from a 2012 game.

This game is so incredibly good. The only problem I have is that it isn't that fun to play no kill and high stealth. Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty, and the it's one of the best immersive sims out there. Also, the narrative is kind of... more poetic with the slightly darker ending? My ultimate advice for enjoying this game is just: be a monster.

Dishonored is set in a victorian english inspired city of Dunwall. Technologically it's a retro-futuristic setting (with something akin to steampunk but everything is powered by whale-oil so... Whalepunk? ) scarred by an unstoppable and deadly plague, a series of political assassinations, the instability this bred and the iron grip of the empire trying to uphold any semblance of order through the most ruthless of methods.

The art-style resembles an oil-painting with a soft palette where colors don't blend into each-other much. This is punctuated by the almost cartoonish proportions of characters and the stylized and elegant way they conduct themselves.
Dunwall is truly its own character. The cold industrial barricades and defensive outposts contrast harshly against the rat filled abandoned victorian housings and pubs and even more so with nobility's gathering spots which seem pristine and untainted by the filth bellow.
The towering walls of the city stand in oppressive manner above you while still welcoming you in their promise of verticality which they do uphold.

The levels encompass different sections of the city with many routes and paths to take. The entry points and enemy placement are designed on point to accomodate both stealth and combat approaches and both lethal and non lethal.

Depending the way you tackle the game and it's objectives is gonna be reflected on Dunwall's chaos level which is going to change how missions play. (Types, amount and placement of enemies, rats, side characters, difficulty of certain routes, etc.)
This combined with how powerful your supernatural abilities are you are always left with a feeling of what if? how things could've played differently?.

Dishonored manages to do something the industry dares not which is leaving you wanting more of the game instead of overstaying its welcome through needless padding.

Dishonored is a love letter to everyone who has longed for more stealth action games in the vein of Thief. With its vast levels, openness, and its plethora of different ways of play this is a game that should be a great fit for practically everyone.

I'm a sucker for steampunk themed games and Dishonored is a pretty good one. It captures the gloomy atmosphere of Dunwall city very well and makes it fun to explore. I love this art design so much it's like you're playing an oil painting, it's mesmerizing to look at!

Each mission gives you lots of possibilities for completion. You can finish them without killing a single soul. Or just go nuts and kill every single person you see. Note that game has two endings -
low and high chaos depending on how you decide people's fates
- There are fun side quests to go through, and most of them have interesting consequences.

Story is fine. It's mostly political and about people that would do anything for power. Corvo is fun to play as but there's not much to learn about him. At least we got a proper backstory for Daud in the knife of Dunwall and Brigmore witches DLC. But I think few people actually play Dishonored for the story, I may be wrong. But the plot twists are nice.

I'd suggest waiting for sales because the series got a huge price increase which was... weird.
Overall a great game worth experiencing.

I skipped a week of school because of this game when it first came out.
I spent around 350 hours in this franchise.
I wrote a scientific paper about this game.
I´ve read and listened to every article and Interview I could find about this game.
This game got me into game development. Whenever I have a design problem, I open it up to see how it handles it.
I´m obsessed with this game.

Yeah, it´s pretty good.

Back in the day when this game came out, I was just getting into high school and had the whole world in front of me. I remember purchasing this game with my parents at Best Buy the day it was out. We went out to eat afterwards and it was a great family experience. Later that night, with a full stomach, I laid down and started Dishonored. It was amazing.

You see, my brother just went off to college (A few years after another brother did as well) and now it was just me and my parents. I didn't really know what to do at home besides game with said brothers so I just thought to do what my brothers and I did best together... game. Only thing is, this time I had to do it alone. I was so used to my brothers showing off new video games to me or me showing off new games to them. This time around however, I had no one to show this new game to.

This game finally showed me how to truly tackle a video game by myself and without either of my big brothers there. This taught me a lot about how to think for myself and how to do things BY MYSELF.

Long story short: This video game helped me grow as a person during a time that was hard for me to adjust to the life around me. It has been an absolute joy to come back to this wonderful game and THANK YOU Dishonored and the team behind it at Arkane Studios.

And yes besides this personal story attached to the game, its fun and well worth your time.

I put off playing this game for the better part of four years and, looking back , I so much wish that I hadn't. Dishonored is such a brilliant game that now, nine years after its release, it holds up brilliantly. This so perfectly reminds me of a better time in gaming: when games were focused, tight, and truly works of art. These qualities are all too rare in gaming today, and it is because of them that Dishonored rests among my favorite games that I have played in the past couple of years.

I'm looking forward to doing a high chaos run, picking up the DLCs when they are next on sale, and moving on to Dishonored 2.

TL;DR: It's the stealthshouldwegoforwhisskeyandcigarstonight simulator. A fricking masterpiece.

I've played this game more than you think. I had it p I r A t E d....BUT, i love it so much that I couldn't not buy it and support the devs. I have done 16 playthroughs of the main story, and 10 times each dlc (apart from the Dunwall city trials, which is fun when you're bored). The game has SOOOOOOOOO much to offer, every single time I went through the story I discovered something new, new rooms, new books to read, new conversations I overheard. The fact that your playstyle changes most of these things made me fall in love with this game. It is my favorite one so far and I can't say how many things you can find the more you play it again and again. The map design is out of this world, its linear but it gives you the feeling it is open world. The aesthetic of this game is one of it's kind, the voice acting is tremendous, and oh god the ways you can kill people (and the ways you can not kill people ;) ). I will keep playing it until I can't anymore, I mean, I CANT PLAY DISHONORED 2 BECAUSE OF MY GRAPHICS CARD AND IVE BEEN DODGING SPOILERS FOR 2 YEARS NOW HELP ME GOD. That's all folks <3

Dishonored was a fun experience that reminds me of Bioshock and Thief in game play, and a decent story with likable characters. This game has aged really well, with good controls and a well done game design.

Dishonored plays and feels a lot like Bioshock. There are different powers, a different way to acquire them, and less of them, but if you liked Bioshock, you will most likely enjoy Dishonored. Stealth is more important in Dishonored, but at easier difficulties, you can play more forward, as it is forgiving in combat and running away when overwhelmed is quite easy.

The story is predictable and definitely not the main focus, but still enjoyable and well done. I liked the way the story is presented and unfolds. While I knew what was going to happen at every turn, it was still enjoyable to partake in. The dialogue was well done, as was the voice acting.

The level designs is where I think Dishonored shines most. I have no complaints at all about the level design. I was never stuck in the world, was able to explore many variants of game play on the same map, and never became bored in the main game missions. While a completely different game, the map approach still reminds me a bit of the Hitman game play, which gives you a choice to play your strengths or weaknesses in approaching a task, giving you freedom of choice on how to complete a mission.

While the mystical addition to Dishonored is well done and a neat approach, the game play is almost more rewarding without using powers. I have played both styles, and enjoy both, but found that the powers made the game far easier and took away much of the challenge. If you desire a greater challenge, give it a try. It is an achievement to boot.

Overall, Dishonored is a game that stands the test of time and remains a good game to play today. I recommend it, and double for those who liked Bioshock.

Only bought this because someone gifted me Dishonered 2 and I wanted to know the full story. Never regretted it tho, it's an awesome game! You can basically decide the gameplay; I always tried to take the stealth route, but I suck at stealth so. oops. The story is also extremely nice and immersing, and the graphic fits the game perfectly!
10/10 game, I can recommend this game to anyone who likes these type of stealth-action games in a fantasy-like setting!

It's amazing how this game was created in 2012. I was constantly awed by how flawless the level design dishonored offered time and time again as I was going through the main campaign. Playing dishonored gives you a sense of freedom in a way, there are so many different and creative ways to clear quests, you can literally do anythin that comes into your mind.

“You show one sign of the plague and it’s ‘your citizenship has been revoked’. Over the wall you go, into the water.”

The port city of Dunwall, reliant for power on whale oil, is under siege; plague-bearing rats swell in the streets and those that walk them bleed from the eyes. Now the Empress is dead – murdered – and the princess has been kidnapped. In her place step the murderers, pointing their fingers anywhere but themselves, to install a brutal tyranny. The once loyal Spymaster anoints himself ‘Lord Regent’, and eventually his finger settles on you, Corvo Attano, failed Royal Protector, to take the fall for his crimes.

The sick and the poor become the targets of the Regent’s heavy-handed police force, who patrol the city on stilts and hide behind their Walls of Light – a once promising technology turned to terror. There’s no cure for the plague, only an elixir that guards against it, but that’s the preserve of the rich and powerful. Someone’s made a knock-off, but still few can afford it. And it wouldn’t do any good. Not in the end.

When the eyes weep blood.

“SEND US FOOD NOT BULLETS”

2012’s Dishonored is the true successor to Looking Glass Studios’ immersive sims, most notably Thief, of which this feels like a spiritual sequel in many ways, from its sneaky gameplay to its strange fusion of industry and magic. I count those immersive sims as some of my absolute favourite games, so it’s a mystery as to why I’ve only now, almost a decade later, gotten around to playing Dishonored.

Because we’re basically made for one another...

...but we make an odd couple.

There is so much that I love about this game. I was compelled to complete it within days, which is likely the highest compliment I can gift Arkane Studios’ work. Dishonored is compulsively enjoyable; if its goal was to create the feeling of being a master assassin (which, yes, it was), then it succeeded. Life as Corvo Attano in Dunwall is one of supernatural power. Thief’s hero, Garrett, was a lot of things, but a powerful assassin he was not (don’t even bother getting your sword out). Corvo on the other hand can teleport behind enemies to slit their throats, see through walls, and stop time to carry out his tasks before anyone knew he was even there.

And it’s incredibly fun doing so. Dishonored is near seamless in its ability to create this perception of power, and each mission offers new opportunities to exercise it, from sumptuous masked balls to gaudy brothels.

Dunwall is a living place, seeped in the virtues of its heroes and the sins of its villains. In other words: a city. How you tackle it is up to you. The wealth of options on offer is staggering.

“Too many good people here to let it all turn to ashes.”

Much has been made of Dishonored's world-building. It’s true that it crafts a distinctive world with texture and grit, but I don’t think it ever truly digs beneath its own surface. At least not enough to matter. And world-building is no substitute for a compelling story filled with interesting characters, which is the game’s foremost shortcoming.

The story it tells is inadequate to the talents of those who penned it. There are some whip smart people behind this game, developers I love and respect – folks like Harvey Smith, Terri Brosius, and Austin Grossman. But somehow they mismanage the telling of this tale in a way that I’m still trying to wrap my head around.

It’s a story where nothing happens until two thirds of the way through, in an almost identical error in pacing to Bioshock. You know what that turning point is by virtue of the fact that, owing to a lack of development and character drama, only one thing can happen (for a lesson in how to avoid this, see the original Deus Ex).

It’s a problem with a lot of gaming narratives; they eschew the ebb and flow of drama that makes stories worth following in favour of piling everything into a single big twist, doing nothing either side of it. I’m astounded that the terrific folks behind this tale both got away with it and that gaming culture at large let them. Is it a problem with how we look at narrative in games? Maybe. But I really don't think this is how it should be done.

It’s a shame; the premise is so good. It works its way to an effective and powerful final scene, but I find it hard not to feel disappointment at what that scene could have been if the game had bothered to do the dramatic legwork leading up to it. Of course, lots of people disagree with me, and that's fine. I'm not trying to set myself up as some kind of arbiter on how things Ought to be Done. But I can at least try and convey how I feel, and I know I've experienced better than this by its genius developers.

Luckily for Dishonored every other part of it is exemplary. It’s a beautiful game, something like a water colour painting – clouds etched across the horizon, dazzling reds and oranges dusting a world made of blackened stone and rusting metal.

There’s more here that works than doesn’t, and it nails the bit that matters – namely the act of playing. In this it is a true and worthy successor to Thief, but more needed to be done to elevate it yet higher… And the people at the helm were equal to that task tenfold, which maybe skewed my expectations.

Just a little.

It took me the better part of a decade to play this game to completion. I installed and uninstalled the game 4 times during that period. My main issue is that I kept trying to combine the clean hands and mostly flesh and steel achievements in one run which made playing the game stressful and not fun. So I finally just said to hell with one of them and played both the game and dlc to completion and it was a fun time.

Given that the game is nearly 10 years old it still holds up rather well in all regards. I also wanted to note that the DLC is better than the game itself. The protagonist there is more interesting and I didn't feel handicapped playing that section of the game since I was using the magic powers fully.

As well as just being a beautifully realized game, Dishonored also has one of my favorite types of stealth, in that it doesn't feel like you've completely f****d things up upon being caught. To illustrate...

If you're caught in Dishonored, you may do the following:
• Magic teleport your way out
• Slash and gun your way out
• Teleport to a nearby roof and drop kill your enemy
• Make deadly rats appear
• Windblast your enemies away, and then make rats appear
• Grab the nearest oil tank, chuck it, stop time, and then shoot it in mid air
• Stop time, shoot in the direction of each enemy, resume time, and watch them fall around you. And then make rats appear.

If you're caught in Hitman, you may do the following:
• Run n' gun your way to your target
• Reload a save

I've finished this game at least five times on the 360, and it has been one of my favourite games on the console.

The sheer amount of possibilities you have to achieve your goal is baffling, and the rune collection system was innovative as well.

This is one of the best, if not the best stealth game of last generation. And the story is also quite chilling.

I recommend this game to anybody willing to explore stealth games.

Great game for a stealth lover and speed runner who like to do it quickly. The story feels awe and the smoothness of the story is nice that you can do more things. You never know whats coming next in it. Could say one of the best first person game, because the combat feels so good and we rarely get something like this and with supernatural abilities that makes you play continuously to complete the quests. Some quests are puzzled not that hard but it you will get it when you are playing the game flows like water. The outcome of each mission plays out based on the choices you make.
Stealth is just as fun as killing everyone you see,and the amount of ways you can kill or incapacitate enemies is amazing.
Revenge solves nothing.
Regret solves everything.
This is my point towards the game

There are so many games released every year that most gamers don't get to play all the games that interest them. Dishonored was one of those games for me, and after almost 10 years of going back & forth I finally gave it a try. I'm happy to say that the gameplay is still excellent, as long as you take a stealthy approach. It gives you the oppurtunity to feel like an all-powerful legendary assassin that can't be stopped. The game provides enough freedom for the player to be creative yet enough structure to ensure that any path you take from point A to B feels satisfying and fun. This is in part due to the brilliant level design. There was nothing that seemed out of place within the setting and I found it very immersive. When you succeed, it feels like you conquered not only your enemies but the environment as well. Speaking of which, I was very impressed with the enemy AI, although they seem to lack peripheral vision or a sense of object permanence at times. Perhaps these things would make the game too frustrating. It's okay though because their placement across the levels combined with their quick responses to your presence ensured that they were intimidating enough that sneaking past them felt very satisfying. For the most part, they felt sufficiently real enough to make the game immersive even in 2021, as long as you accept that every single guard in the city of Dunwall has nothing to do for fun except whiskey and cigars. I bring this up because the game strongly encourages you to think more humanely about them and the general act of killing. I chose to spare everyone I could except my main targets. It was fun although I feel like a third of my playtime was spent reloading a previous save once I'd been detected. The thing is, the abilities you can unlock are meant to make a kill-everyone approach more fun and there are only a few that make a non-lethal stealth approach more fun. I believe they call this ludonarrative dissonance. Unfortunately, the combat kinda sucks if you don't take a stealthy approach. I didn't find the swordplay or the gunplay very fun at all so I avoided it. It's just too clunky for me.

I went through this game quickly just once because I wanted to get to the sequel. I don't think I'll revisit it but we'll see. I might give the Knife of Dunwall DLC a go, especially if Michael Madsen is in it. Considering its short length, I say this game is still worth playing today if you never got around to it as long as you don't expect to have your mind blown. (8/10).

Best Stealth Action game i played way back in 2012. The inclusion of supernatural elements makes it satisfying. The game gives you a lot of freedom in playing your own way whether its killing people or choking them unconscious and hiding their bodies. The world building is amazing as it is resembles a bit about Victorian era london. There are lore books and collectibles like runes, paintings, bone charms and blueprints scattered around every level. The voice acting is amazing as some of them are done by well known Hollywood actors like Lena Headey, Chloe Grace Moretz and Michael Madsen.

I played dishonored back on Xbox 360, it was such a good game then and it still is now. i highly recommend this game if you want a stealth game to play. dishonored is one of the few games i know about where they actually reward you for being stealthy. all kinds of achievements that involve completing missions undetected as well as with as little death as possible. the ending is different depending on how you play the game, killing every big target results in a (high chaos) game ending, and finding the non lethal way to take down every big target results in a (low chaos) game ending. i have gotten both, high chaos on 360 and low chaos on PC. there is also DLC i have to go back and play. However the game itself regardless of dlc is worth the grab.

EDIT 1: Beat the Knife of Dunwall DLC for the first time and it was amazing. playing a Daud, master assassin is such a fun experience. being able to summon assassins to help you, as well as Daud's enhanced blink ability that has a freeze time effect as long as you're not moving is god tier ability. i wish they would have given you a way to get that for Corvo. really good short story they include for Daud.

EDIT 2: Just beat the Brigmore Witches DLC and boy do i have to go back and replay the whole game(one day) to get the other ending. no spoilers here but im telling you i think it'll be very worth replaying the game and seeing all the possible endings. one thing i find really cool is when you start the Witches dlc it allows you to carry over your save from the Knife of Dunwall dlc. i did bc you continue to play as Daud in the witches dlc, so i said why not. i beat this dlc also in high chaos, and I cant wait for the day where i play this again to get the low chaos ending. MAN i've been playing dishonored since back on Xbox 360 and i got a PC back in december of 2019, so im still quite new to PC but man am i glad that dishonored was able to give me such a great experience on PC just like it did back on xbox 360.

9/10. I'll probably bump this up to a 10/10 once i replay it for the third time this time getting the opposite endings.

So I've just finished the game, what an extraordinary trip. the coolest thing about the game is how the story is somehow relevant considering the situation we're currently in. the game play is just amazing, you can approach the game and your missions in several ways and it actually affects your interactions with other characters and even the ending,I'd definitely recommend this game cuz it's a pure gem.

Dishonored has a terrific world & level design that let's players approach missions in creative ways.

• With a selection of abilities and powers to experiment with the combinations are endless for both stealth and combat.

• Exploration is rewarded, with levels always offering a multitude of pathways to navigate. This open-ended level design combined with fun & interesting abilities is what makes the game excel.

• The story is simple but solid giving our protagonist a clear goal. The last 2 DLCs also offer a unique perspective that parallels the main game which I found quite interesting.

Great casual stealth game with lots of player freedom and some fun abilities, dont bother with the others just get this, its all you need. I encourage people to play the game multiple times to try out different playstyles and choices in the game theres a few moments youll get that oh wow I didnt know I could do that feeling. Also one of my personal fav things about the game is the halflife vibe within some areas that you get, obviously the setting is different but there are moments with a myriad of similar themes.

Shame the franchise is owned by a trash company.

Dishonored is a very enjoyable game about the story of Corvo, a bodyguard framed for the murder of his Empress. Throughout the game you gain access to a variety of powers and weapons, but the game allows you to play in any way you'd like; from stealthy pacifist to blood thirsty blade wielder. Due to this the game has a good amount of replayability.

This game is one of my all-time favourites. I love the level design, the freedom of choice and the consequences that come of it. But the thing I love most is how the world is shown. Everything isn't black and white, with assassins who come to regret their actions, and people with good intentions ending up worse than the people they're fighting against. It's definetely worth a go.

Dishonored is a game that I picked up when I was a kid (around 10 or 11) and didn't really touch at all after I bought it and played the first mission as I wasn't a fan of its slow pace and honestly found it very confusing and difficult. But recently I saw it on sale and decided to buy it again for old times sake and OH MY GOD, I can honestly say that this game has one of the most intriguing stories I have ever seen in a video game and despite it's age still handles quite well today. The characters are all highly memorable and full of personality, with unique locations in each mission which can be tackled at any angle making the player constantly think on the fly about what they need to do next or meticulously plan their approach, the decision is all yours. The abilities are a real highlight making you feel incredibly powerful and stealthy on one hand, but still extremely vulnerable and weak on the other as they can only help you so much, as once discovered its difficult to fight off as many troops as there can be. I would not only recommend anyone to play this classic game but also to play it on a harder difficulty (I personally played on the second hardest) because it really enthrals you into being an assassin as in most cases being discovered can often lead to death putting a much greater emphasis on stealth (as there should be).

Dishonored is undoubtedly an elegant mixture of the shadowy city with desperately unsettling society, supernatural power fantasy combined with unlimited stealth mechanism, and a thrilling story of a royal coup. Over the years since its release, I had completed the game on multiple platforms, different accounts with varied conditions like no-kill run or don't-use-sword run.

And even with nearly hundreds of hours I put into this series, I probably spent more time wandering in the world of isles, streets of Dunwall, and Karnaca inside my mind. These locations had been engraved into my memory because many of them left a huge impression during my playthroughs. I learnt those places when I first discovered some mechanics (and there are a lot of new things to discover), or I realised the story that happened here or did some incredible kills that made my Adrenaline rush like a pump, or just simply because of how beautiful those places are.

This game and its successors just filled with a sense of mystery and curiosity. Opening the game is not like picking up my controller but prepare myself to enter a world of absurdity but somehow feels real. Everytime I get off Samuel's boat and I set foot on the ground I always just run around on the streets to feel how good the control and feedback are. Then I just go through doors and windows to find the most hidden places and think about the story those places might have witnessed. Then I try to find some new ways to toy with the NPCs, and Dishonored is one of the few series where the fun and creativity are generated by both the game developer and the player. One provides tools and one puts them into use. At last, is where I finish the set objective and complete the mission. The satisfaction and the sense of achievement after each mission is immeasurable but somehow always left me wanting more.

At this point, there is no use to argue the pros and cons of the Serie since I clearly love it.

Information / Review English

Dishonored is an action role-playing game developed by Arkane Studios.

Gameplay / Story

In Dishonored, the setting of the action is the city of Dunwall, capital of an island kingdom that lives mainly from whaling in a nameless fantasy world, whose technology and energy supply are based on the industrial use of whale oil. The world of Dunwall is in a phase of industrialization, but at the time the game takes place it is suffering from the dramatic consequences of an epidemic of disease. In addition, there is a large plague of rats that shapes the image of the port city. Society is divided into rich and poor and despite the prevailing misery and the omnipresent fear of the plague, a small, wealthy class of aristocrats seeks diversion in regular extravagant amusements and festivals, which sometimes creates a cynical contrast to the surrounding conditions.

The player controls his character Corvo Attano directly from the first person perspective. Although the game takes place exclusively in the town of Dunwall, the urban area as a whole is not freely explorable. The game is mission-based, with numerous optional secondary objectives to choose from in addition to the mandatory objectives of the main story. Each main mission takes place in a relatively large city area, which can then be freely explored during this mission. For the fulfillment of the tasks, the player has numerous and completely individual solutions at his disposal, for example proceeding with armed force, through secret infiltration, through assassination or any combination of several possibilities. The player has an arsenal of lethal and non-lethal cutting, stabbing and firearms as well as grenades and mines, all of which can be improved with the help of play money found in the game world. In addition, the character has a repertoire of supernatural abilities, which the player can expand in the further course of the game with the help of mystical artifacts found in the game world. These include, for example, the ability to teleport over short distances, take control of other characters and living beings, or freeze the passage of time. It is possible to end the entire game without killing a single opposing character. The player's approach is recorded and has an influence on the game and the outcome of the game.

Opposing characters follow the analog AI developed by Arkane in their watch and patrol behavior. This differentiates between four alarm levels of the game character (relaxed, suspicious, the presence of the player aware and the highest alarm level). The behavior changes between the alarm levels do not take place abruptly, but only when certain criteria and intermediate steps have been met. If a guard becomes suspicious, they go in search of the player figure and an internal countdown is triggered. If the guard finds no further clues within this period, their alarm level will drop again. In addition to sneaking and sprinting, the player can also have his playing figure peek around the corners as movement and control options or take a look into the rooms behind through keyholes.

Pro

+ dark and compelling story
+ great art design
+ great background world
+ cool skill combinations
+ atmospheric missions
+ open game design, action and stealth
+ good controls
+ free saving
+ Achievements

Contra

- AI not the smartest
- Robbery & pickpocketing without reactions
- Main character rather pale
- Talents are quickly overwhelming

Conclusion

Dishonored offers you a dark and gripping story at the same time, with decent stealth action at speed. clear buy recommendation in this genre.

Information / Review Deutsch

Pro

+ düstere und fesselnde Geschichte
+ großartiges Artdesign
+ toll ausgearbeitete Hintergrundwelt
+ coole Fähigkeitenkombos
+ stimmungsvolle Missionen
+ offenes Spieldesign, Action und Stealth
+ gute Steuerung
+ freies Speichern
+ Errungenschaften

Kontra

- KI nicht die schlauste
- Raub & Taschendiebstahl ohne Reaktionen
- Hauptcharakter eher blass
- Talente sind schnell übermächtig

Fazit

I played this game way back in 2012 for its release on PS3, and i remembered loving it to bits. Recently I got a solid PC, and decided to revisit this game to see how it holds up in 2020. It easily still and forever will be a 10/10 LEGENDARY game. The Story is EXCELLENT, with well written dialogue and memorable, fantastically designed characters. The game also allows you to play through it however you'd like, by having different ways of approaching situations and the way you chose to play can and will effect how the levels later on based on how High or Low your Chaos is ( chaos increases/decreases depending on how many people you kill or leave alive). You could also choose to go though a level without ever being spotted or killing anyone. The only possible nit pick I could give this game is that the voice actors are speaking with an American accent in a traditionally English setting, this never bothered me but to some it may be distracting. I love this game and highly recommend it to anyone who loves a great story with fleshed out and memorable characters, with a stealth/looting/exploration based gameplay.

Holy sh*t this is a great game!

Probably my favourite stealth game ever.

Mechanics are crisp, the stages are approachable in many ways, you can full stealth through the stage to get to your target/objective undetected or you can show up at front door ready to begin a full blown massacre, the choice is yours to make.

The story is pretty interesting, nothing feels rushed, the relationship between Corvo and Emily feels very natural. And God does it feel good to
kill those filthy traitors at the end.
In my opinion the real MVP of the story is Samuel, he's a real G.

Replayability is huge thanks to the different approaches given to us on each and every stage.

Oh yeah, the credits song slaps!

A thief style game that can be played aggressively, killing everything in sight, or be played stealthily, using your powers to evade and dispose of your enemies in nonlethal ways. The game has plenty of replay value. Ive put in over 100 hours, but mostly on xbox, just recently bought on pc. This is my 5th run through and each run, i find different sections of the map that i didnt see before in previous plays. Each playthrough, you will find new things in the game. New ways to finish each mission, and new rooms you previously missed. Its a fun game, the DLC is also great.

This is the game from the time when there was actually good content in the actual game and the DLC had actual good content in it. Nevertheless Dishonored was first teased back in 2008, with a poster in a Comic-con event in Middle-east which I remember attending. After that there was nothing particular information about the game for next 5 years.

But it finally released in 2012 and it was Amazing on launch. Not very best of games go good on launch, take No Man's Sky, CS GO if we are talking about FPS shooters, and many others. Though it was criticized for some reasons which were not taken an interest.

The Series finally took a flight from this game and to this day this game tells us how the stealth fps games should be made. Taking in consideration this game finally inspired many others FPS shooters to be more creative rather than just shoot and reload. Take Newly Released Valorant for instance. Yes I said it.

The above was just a history about the series and some overview of the game but in the main review, there are no such words to explain how beautiful and innovative this game is other than the plague stuff of course. When playing the game the main story becomes less interesting while some of the side objectives feels like an interest. You have supernatural abilities also Weapons depends on your approach and if God forbids you can complete the game without killing anyone.
I pretty much enjoyed every moment this game had to offer. I would also recommend you to try this game while you still can.

A true masterclass of how stealth games should be. I have no idea as to why I started Dishonored 2 before this one but I'm satisfied that I've finally played it and completed it. The whole idea of what actions you take decide the fate of the story is wonderful especially in games that are more focused in combat and how you use your abilities, it definitely makes the game 10x better. The ONLY problem I had with the game is the ending just slightly. The reason being because I felt like the ending felt too quick and feel like a huge chunk of the ending was missing, regardless the story of the game throughout was very good.

More stealth games like this please!

What a fantastic game!

Dishonored is packed full of flavour, so many memorable characters with different personalities, motivations, backstories and attitudes that can be discovered throughout the game. An incredible setting that fuses a bit of dark fantasy with some steampunk set in an alternate Victorian-era London that is overflowing with worldbuilding elements. The setting is paired excellently with the gorgeous artstyle and phenomenal level design that will lead to every area looking like a well-composed painting. The atmosphere is further enforced by the music and audio cues which are just perfect. I just can’t put into words how much I love this game's style, setting and world... Truly a work of art.

The gameplay of Dishonored acts as a great simulation to experiment with, you are imbued with many mystical powers that make you feel like more of a god than a man, you can truly toy around with every scenario the game gives to you in so many ways, sometimes I try the same task over and over just to see how many ways I can come up with to kill somebody (or incapacitate them), none of the Outsider’s powers are as powerful as the quicksave though, which is the ultimate tool for turning the game into a complete sandbox if that’s how you desire to play. Each mission is very creative and brings new gameplay ideas to the table while still expanding on the world and advancing the game’s plot. There’s a ton of unique interactions, loads to read, plenty of conversations to spy on (or participate in) and usually some interesting side objectives that you can choose to do on top of your main quest which are always great fun. It’s also great to see that the game changes and reacts to so many of your previous actions, this has more ‘choices matter’ gameplay than anything Telltale ever made.

A lot of the negative reviews seem to be by players who force themselves to adopt a playstyle that they don’t enjoy and then claim the game was forcing them to do so. This is absolutely not the case, as both lethal and non-lethal gameplay are very enjoyable in their own ways. While it is true that only a lethal playthrough lets you use the fun weapons, in a non-lethal playthrough you can still enjoy the amazing setting, overhear all the dialogue, read all of the notes/follow the optional side quests and experience everything except combat (and even then you can kill around 20% of the guards in each level while remaining in low chaos). The ending and final level will change as a consequence of your playstyle and both are equally interesting, so the game does not punish you either way.

Now that Dishonored is coming up for 8 years old there are a few things that have not aged too well. The general bugginess of the game is quite noticeable, the game has a lot of environmental errors with some janky collision and some areas that just have a hole that lets you see out of the map. While the music is amazing, it’s not uncommon for it to cut out randomly or get interrupted too early with a loading screen which is a shame. The enemy’s AI could use much more improvement too as they quite often get caught and trapped on each other and ruin their patrols. Additionally the voice acting is quite repetitive and some characters have pretty bad voice acting, as well as there only being 1 voice for the woman civilians (and it’s always the same model). There are many more tiny problems, but are much less noticeable and there are too many to list.

Obviously these minor problems are nothing compared to everything else the game has to offer but just be aware of general old game jank. Jump in, immerse yourself, and have as much fun as you can!

✔️Gameplay acts as a great simulation to experiment with
✔️Fantastic story, setting and characters
✔️Packed with worldbuilding elements
✔️Creative missions and side-quests that are implemented well
✔️Great Music and sound cues (but music can be buggy)
✔️Gorgeous Artstyle (but graphics look a bit dated)
✔️World reacts to your actions well

❔ Quicksave lets the game act as more of a sandbox
❔ The game is fairly easy no matter what difficulty it’s on
❔ Game rewards 0 kills and 0 alerts which is BAD for a first playthrough and more of an extreme challenge that will require constant quick-loads and hours of patience

❌Non-lethal combat is lacking (but the game is still enjoyable in other ways)
❌Some environmental errors and bad collision
❌AI can get stuck and break
❌Some voice acting could use improvement
❌General bugginess shows the game’s age

This is a game that I hold very, very close to my heart. If you want a gripping story, I can assure you that you've found it. The replay value is unreal. It has what I've labelled the best DLC's that any game has to offer.

Another awesome game! I've played this game multiple times over a couple of platforms and it has been such fun every time I've played it. The options this game gives you in terms of what styles you can play and different routes you can take is very nice and rewarding, there are also options for moral choice.

The art style for this game is very pleasing to the eye and I'd compare it somewhat to an oil painting as it comes across very smooth and almost cartoonish with also a bit of realism added into the mix.
The difficulties in this game are balanced well and give you a great sense of accomplishment upon completing the game stealthily as achievements are rewarded for your feats.
The story is also very riveting and captivating with many quests making you have to think about your actions and tread carefully.

I'd recommend this game wholeheartedly and if you enjoyed it I'd also suggest you play the second instalment 'Dishonored 2'

????Introduction

Dishonored is a short yet impactful title about trust and betrayal. There are a few flaws here and there but it’s easy to look past them as you immerse yourself in this steampunk world. Whether you’re sneaking around guards or going on a mad killing spree, you’ll have a blast exploring this world with the powers and gadgets you acquire along the way.

✔️Pros

• A short but impactful story
• Be as stealthy or loud as you want
• A vast arsenal of gadgets, weapons, and powers that allow for creative kills
• A lot of emphasis on exploration
• Hidden detail about the world and characters
• Encourages multiple playthroughs to explore the world and get different endings
• The choices you make impact the world
• Ambient sounds are used instead of music to create tension and anticipation when being stealthy
• There’s always a non-lethal way of dealing with your target

❌Cons

• Not enough non-lethal weapons to make low chaos playthroughs as enjoyable as high chaos
• New game+ feature would’ve been nice
• The game is short and banks on you exploring the levels, not rushing through them

????Story

You play as Corvo Attano, a former bodyguard for the Empress who gets framed for her murder and the abduction of Emily Kaldwin (the heir to the throne). After breaking out of prison you meet a small group of people who know the truth about the assassination of the Empress called The Loyalist who helped you escape prison. They help you figure out where the main targets are who planned this tragic event and your job is to take care of them how you see fit.

The writing in this game is simple yet impactful telling a short story of both betrayal and trust. There’s an enormous amount of detail hidden around the world about the rat plague, how people are coping and how the world is starting to fall apart. From books you can find in abandoned houses to notes left on corpses, there’s a lot of lore to read about in this mysterious world.

????Gameplay

Dishonored is a stealth game at heart but allows you to be very upfront and loud if you wanted to take that route. With the vast amount of deadly gadgets at your fingertips who wouldn’t want to go on a murderous killing spree to get revenge on those who betrayed you. With the countless weapons, gadgets and powers you obtain over the course of the game, you can really be creative with how you use them to take out your enemies.

Having an arsenal of gadgets and weapons that you can upgrade is all well and good but when it comes to the non-lethal side of things it’s not as fun. Sure there are sleeping darts that you can use on your enemies but its not as satisfying as using the countless other lethal gadgets you have at your disposal. I feel like there could’ve been more non-lethal gadgets to make sneaking around not killing people just as fun as the lethal route.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2055449645

The mark of the Outsider gives you supernatural powers that you can utilise however you wish during your adventure, as well as some passive bonuses that will aid you. The main powers are all very different from one another from teleporting to stopping time to summoning a swarm of rats to devour your enemies, there’s a nice amount of variety. They are all very satisfying to use and if your feeling creative you can combine these powers and gadgets to create some very creative and entertaining kills.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2055449581

There’s also a morality system that determines your ending with some details that change depending on if you have a high or low chaos. High chaos is achieved by killing over 20% of the population on each level, and low chaos is achieved by getting lower than 20%. Whether you plan to go on a murderous killing spree or deal with your enemies differently, there’s always a non-lethal approach you can take with every enemy you encounter. Small details will change depending on what level of chaos you are at, for example more weepers will appear if you have high chaos.

This title has a lot of emphasis on exploration, strongly encouraging the player to explore each and every level as much as possible to find hidden secrets, details about the world, finding runes to upgrade your powers and so much more. Depending on how much you explore and really immerse yourself in this game will determine how many hours you put into it. You can eavesdrop on enemies who have meaningful and sometimes funny conversations between one another, you can embark on side quests to help aid you on your journey, there’s just so much detail and side quests that you can easily miss which encourages you to play through the game multiple times.

Playing through the game once isn't enough to appreciate how elegant and well crafted each level is designed either. You can go the linear route of getting past an obstacle, for example obtaining a key to get through a locked door. But there’s almost always another way around, and that’s something you might not pick up on your first time through this game. It rewards and encourages players to explore the areas and find different routes around to overcome obstacles that obstruct your path.

I was surprised to find that there wasn’t any sort of NG+ system implemented into this title to further encourage multiple playthroughs. It would’ve also given you the chance to have every power, gadget, and weapon upgraded to the max and be even more creative with your kills.

❓Bugs

Sometimes the Tallboys would get caught on terrain and would be stuck until he sees you and starts attacking, some NPCs in the Hound Pit would be in their sitting animation but wouldn’t actually be sitting on a chair and instead look like they’re hovering.

????Music & Sound

As you traverse and sneak your way through Dunwall, you’ll hear subtle ambient sounds and occasionally there will be a small piece of music if you're in a cut scene or if the main characters are talking. It really adds this level of intensity and anticipation when you’re sneaking around trying not to get seen by anyone. On the other hand, when you’re caught in a fight or get seen there’s intense music playing to indicate that very clearly.

The best soundtrack in this title is definitely the end credits (Honor For All, RIP Dan licht) it’s so elegant and creative, you get this overwhelming sense of accomplishment every time that you complete the game. I still get chills every time I hear the song start playing whether I get high chaos or low chaos, it’s such a great song and suits the game extremely well.

????Graphics

As you roam through the streets of Dunwall you’ll take in the result of the devastating rat plague that is spreading throughout the city. The grim and gloomy parts of the city that are hidden away make for an excellent contrast to the bright and rich colours on the cities surface. Environments are well designed, and everything looks like it belongs in this world but at the same time practically everything can be climbed to get a vantage point.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2055449444

????Closing Thoughts

Dishonored is probably in my top 5 games of all time, from its fantastic level design to the vast amount of gadgets and superpowers at your disposal, I think that it’s a timeless masterpiece. Despite a few flaws this title is still enjoyable and addicting to play through over and over uncovering lore and secrets you might’ve missed before.

Arkane is my favorite studio. They are genuinely talented in level, map, gameplay design, storytelling and many other aspects. In short, they make really fun games.

Dishonored is one of their talented works and you are gonna regret not playing it.

You are playing as Corvo Attano, the Royal Protector. Turning back home after a trip out of your city, you are accused of killing someone important. After the judging process, it is your time to be executed. However, with the anonymous help of some people, you are breaking out of prison to recover your fame. From now and on, you have two paths lieing in front of you. You can either choose the high chaos path and become a vicious murderer or you can choose the low chaos path and move on peacefully, but the killing animations in this game are so addictive that it will be so hard not to kill anyone.

Dishonored: a modern gaming classic

TLDR AT BOTTOM

In Dishonored, you play as Corvo, a high member of the steampunk militia in the world of Dishonored, royal protector to the empress herself. However you're dishonored.
That's as much as I'll tell about the story.

So you're sent out to the streets of Dunwall.
The game's scenery is beautiful and huge of variety, ranging between:

Dirty, dark rooftop
Dirty, dark sewer
Dirty, dark alley
or sometimes even the rare, dirty, dark basement!

It's a stealth game alright

The story is slightly above decent, however significantly improved by the fact that there's very little. Your character has no dialogue. It's mainly just gameplay. You're not straightforwardly told anything, and instead you have to get the information by talking and listening to people around the game.

One of the most immersive design choices they could've made. Absolutely fantastic.

The combat however is TOP NOTCH. There's not enough I can say about it. It HAS to be experienced.
Funnily enough, the true way of playing Dishonored is still by hesitating and not killing anyone.
The full price is 10 BUCKS.
Seriously this is a masterpiece why haven't you bought it yet.
Like really.
Why.

TLDR: Dishonored is an immersive masterpiece that will stick with you long after having played it.
The only cons to the game are so slight, they're barely worth mentioning. It's mostly stuff that could've been better in an ideal game. The game in itself is still an almost perfect package.

Dishonored gets 93/100

I'm not too great at giving reviews so I won't have a lot to say. But its one of the best stealth/assassin games I've ever played makes the boring ubisoft assassin's creed games seem worse than they already were. If you want a fun stealth game that has lots of replay potential then I'd recommend this game as you can play Non Lethal with no magic or a super high chaos run murdering everyone with magic and all.

One of the best games published by Bethesda during its Golden Times. My only complaints are the game gets buggy, especially with achievements, and Bethesda Support , just like many other game support teams only give copy-paste answers
For those hunting achievements:-
The achievements are way too difficult to get,but very satisfying, unless you got bugged out like me
For the DLC, Dunwall City Trails, some of the challenges are badly designed and buggy as hell which makes it difficult .
Anyways,a must buy [strike]game[/strike] series
