Der dritte Teil nach Dishonored und Dishonored 2 ist ihnen und besonders letzterem sehr ähnlich, wenn auch deutlich kürzer, war es ja zunächst als DLC für Teil 2 geplant.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2141604975
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2141608103

I still would say its not worth it. Go play something else.
The level design feels very amateurish, as does the writing.

One thing I do want to mention is why this game is to me the weakest which is mainly for why I like dishonoured, with how actions result in consequence. Death of the Outsider doesn't have a chaos meter like the other games but more plays of a final choice which is presented around the last hours of the game. This feels a little odd with Dishonoured's chaos meter being important but I cant see why they removed it more with the design of this final choice you will make.
Dishonored Death of the Outsider is more like DLC for Dishonoured 2, and plays off the characters of Dishonoured 1's DLC Knife of Dunwall & Brigmore Witches, to which I say play these DLC's before this as you will learn more about these characters. The stealth in the game is exactly alike DS2 but the powers are exclusive to this game, and I will say I very much like these powers. Since there is only 3, it gives less diversity in build but for approach it still holds up as they have a lot to them in design. Powers are usually buff like upgrades in the Dishonoured games but in this they are done as bonecharms which is very interesting but can sometimes be annoying if you miss a critical power.
The new locations are very in depth with unique mechanics, since unlike the previous titles this game only has a few missions. The depth of design in the levels such as the bank still lives up to a lot of the best in Dishonoured. This game also has some of its own unique enemies you can encounter much later in game which is very nice to see.
Since this is the last game in the series, I must recommend playing all there is to Dishonoured. Its such a good franchise, and the amount of polish all these games have is something that shows love and passion of Arkane Studios.

Less overpowered powers. Scouting/tagging enemies (Foresight, which replaces the ridiculous power of being able to see everyone through walls at the same time), disguising yourself by literally taking the targets face (Semblance). You even get one level without any powers whatsoever.
Lethal/non-lethal has no bearing on the ending i.e. you are not punished for your playstyle choice. Only killing, or not, the final target has influence on the ending. Thanks to this, after all these years I've finally discovered my biggest issue with this franchise: non-lethal stealth is a complete chore in Dishonored. Lethal is more fun, faster, and much less prone to screw ups.
I don't know whether I will ever replay these games just to try full combat mode. The entire franchise is a large 'meh'.

It gives fans of dishonoured an ending to the franchise and explores the outsider whose always stood as the foundation of the games.
I would recommend buying this game on sale personally as the missions and story line isn't as impressive as the price suggests.

The weakest entry in the series by a considerable margin, but not totally devoid of fun.
The Great
++Stealthing is enjoyable.
++Same superb Dishonored sound design.
The Good
+The gore and ragdoll are brutal.
+Bonecharms are numerous and fun to collect.
+Maintains the high quality of the series' recognisable soundtracks. Rest in peace, Daniel Licht.
+The new powers are fun to use.
Mild Issues/Things to Note
+-Contracts are a generally fun addition but some are quite tedious, such as transporting bodies and killing every enemy in a level.
-+The game's pretty short at only 8 hours long (even with exploring everything), even for the nature of what it is (i.e. not a true sequel).
The Bad
-Looks the same as Dishonored 2 (which you'd expect for what is essentially a standalone expansion), which is to say, very unimpressive.
-The removal of power unlocks felt unnecessary.
The Terrible
--Pitifully easy, regardless of how you choose to play it.
--Level design has the same problems as Dishonored 2 in that areas are repeated (only once to be fair) and too heavily feature mundane exploration of empty apartment buildings where finding anything of use requires a looking glass and tedious scouring of every nook and cranny.
--The story feels like it should be a pivotal moment in the series, but in actuality it's quite mundane and lacks any emotional weight.
--The game's biggest claim to fame is its bank mission - an obvious nod to Dishonored's spiritual predecessor, Thief, which has naturally drawn comparisons. Unfortunately, the mission is a joke. The game grants you the opportunity to incapacitate everyone in the building while you stroll around with a looking glass inspecting every detail for loot and items of progression with nary a threat. I suppose you could limit yourself by not taking the easy route, but I shouldn't have to purposefully restrict myself to have fun, especially when the easy option requires next to no effort to gain access to... it also wouldn't fix how tight and linear this level is.
In other words: to compare it to Thief II's classic First City Bank and Trust is like comparing the first Godfather to the third, but really it's on Arkane for attempting it in the first place. Frankly, I would feel embarrassed as a developer for creating this forgettable mission and I felt pitied as a player for how mind-numbingly easy it was, despite ghosting it on the hardest difficulty.
Content/Replayability: 3.5/10
Audio: 8/10
Graphics: 3/10
Gameplay: 7/10
Overall: 6.5/10
Conclusion
There's little of note about Death of the Outsider. Even its story feels like it trudges along with barely an attempt to engage the audience, but Dishonored's story has never been its strongest suit. If you enjoy Dishonored, you're going to enjoy this because it's really only more of Dishonored (although, more of its lesser moments).
As a result, I only recommend this to hardcore fans of the series and anyone else who's desperate for more stealth titles on the market.

My positive thoughts:
- I was happy to see Daud again, my favorite character in entire series. I wish there was an option to play as him too but one can't get anything they want :)
- Even though game is short, if you like collect all collectibles such as paintings, bonecharms, you realize that all levels are super detailed. After finishing every level I went back to my save to find collectibles I missed. Found out apartments and rooftops i haven't discovered.
- Artstyle is so beautiful.
- I like that there is an option to play with the powers from previous games -Blink, Dark Vision, Domino-. I prefer Dark Vision over Foresight. Domino over Semblance. Although this option is not avaible until you beat the game one time.
My negative thoughts:
- I agree with most people that this game should have been DLC to the Dishonored 2. As Knife of Dunwall & Brigmore Witches were DLC to Dishonored. That is what I expected from Arkane.
- Story was simple in my opinion. There was no plot twist, no suprise. It is about what title says. There was plotholes that doesn't make any sense.
Why Billie going after Outsider in the first place, just because Daud said so? Her motivations didn't make any sense to me. Since she doesn't blame Outsider for people's crimes she has no reason to hunt him down. Another thing that doesn't make any sense to me is that Outsider was too weak for a god. Why does he give Billie the powers knowing she is going after him? He could give the powers one of the cultist that adore him to protect himself from Daud. I don't know why Outsider did what he did all game :D
- One thing I love about Dishonored series that you always had another way to eliminate a target. In this game there were contracts that giving you no option to kill the targets or don't take the contract. Since clean hands + ghost is all the way for me I was dissappointed that there was no nonlethal way to complete them. Lots of quick saving and loading was involved in my gameplay for sake of getting achievements :D
In conclusion game has many flaws but It is still fun to play, only don't expect it to be as good as previous Dishonored games.

Story
Not to spoil even more of the game that the title already gives you, you play as Billie Lurk from the Knife of Dunwall looking for Daud while going through and finishing his goal, to kill the Outsider.
Gameplay
The only real big changes to the game would be that there is no chaos system in place so you're free to kill to your hearts content without the fear of consequences being met with your choices. Now for powers you only get 3 for both (base game and original+ mode you get by beating the game) in the base game you get Displace, Semblance, and Foresight which all complement each other as Displace is basically blink just a better version of D2's blink (not as good as in Dishonored).
Displace - Basically a better version of the Dishonored 2 blink (but not as good as the original) but you can place a marker down on where you want to be even when using Foresight the jump to that spot within a certain radius of that marker and when using it in conjunction with Foresight you can get into some pretty clever spots as long as you can get line of sight on that marker.
Semblance - Semblance lets you take on the identity of an NPC or rather commit identity theft by walking up behind an NPC and using it on them which knocks them out but you will lose their identity upon detection and you won't fool any traps, it's better to think of it as putting a mask on.
Foresight - With Foresight you mainly use it to scout around the area ping/lock-on objects, bonecharms, people, etc. and you're able to go into and through vents to which you can put down a marker down for Displace to use to get to different area's and parts of the map even through windows (only if the window is open or has no glass) just as long as you're both within range and you can have a line of sight with the marker.
Now instead of the mana system in both game's you have void energy (3 bars) which doesn't need anything to refresh it other then a bit of patience to use your powers again, now sadly you can't upgrade your powers in any means but you can enhance your powers through bonecharms although only black bonecharms which thankfully there are plenty of them to get (mostly through black markets).
Contracts
Now contracts are an added edition to the game that can get from the black market that all have a different motivation and description of what each person who made the contract wants but sadly these contracts are always the same each and every mission.
Price
☐ Buy it now
☐ Wait for a sale
☑ Buy it when it's heavily marked down (sale or not)
☐ Save your money
The game isn't worth $30 not even half of that for only 5 levels to play on (3 new and 1 we've already played If you've played Dishonored 2) and contracts acting more as filler content to expand play time for the lack of content we have compared to Dishonored's DLC's but it's not a bad game by any means it's fun and I got my money's worth for $8 on a sale but I personally just expected more and a bit better from D2 since this is the end of the franchise.

Pretty solid follow-up to Dishonored 2, although I can see why they didn't make it into a numbered seuqel, as it feels more lika a stand-alone full-length expansion to its predecessor than a game of its own. As such, it does stick the landing. The levels are well balanced, the story builds on the events of the first two games and if you liked those, there's really nothing here that should turn you away.

Rating
7/10
Intro
This is basically Dishonored 2's single-player expansion, but it's a standalone game instead. It offers similar gameplay to Dishonored 2 with a few modifications and it tells its own story. On the whole, it's good, but it's not as fun as Dishonored 2, which is why I'm rating this one point lower than that.
Positives
+ Good replay value.
+ New optional contracts.
+ Good aesthetics and graphics.
+ Good level design. Open ended as well.
Negatives
- There are less powers than the previous two games. Unless you beat the game first and then play Original Game+. Which begs the question of why these weren't in the game to begin with.
- There's so much visual noise. This really isn't ideal in a game where you have to search almost every nook and cranny to look for stuff. You can use Void Gaze, but it's only available in Original Game+.

I am not a huge fan of the Billie/Daud story line so I can't enjoy the Dishonored expansions as much as I would like. Her version of Blink is also pretty annoying to me and she can't bend time. If you are more interested in the traditional stealth mechanics, you won't be disappointed since the game is still a Dishonored game. The story and powers just aren't as exciting.
Also...they added a 'power' to be able to hear the rats...never found it useful and instead found it rather annoyingly silly/lame.

DISHONORED: DEATH OF THE OUTSIDER... the continuation of where Dishonored 2 ended up to
Here, you play as Billie Lurks (aka Meagan Foster) from Dishonored 2. This is a recurring character from Dishonored 1 DLC's and you get to meet your mentor DAUD yet again in this standalone expansion. Billie has a mix-match of Corvo's and Emily's powers from Dishonored 2. Just like the previous games, you play the way you want. Kill everyone? Kill only high value targets? Kill no one? (Yes, it's possible!) Play as a true ghost? Use powers and upgrades at your disposition or not? Pretty much every characters reacts to the way you play... ghost style / rampage style / etc.
To resume the game more accurately:
PROS:
+Level design is pretty good, albeit recycled maps from Dishonored 2. Still plenty of vertical ways to navigate and hunt enemies.
+Freedom to play the missions as you see fit.
+Real choices and consequences... meaning a crafted ending!
+High replayability value if you seek a ghost or pacifist playthough.
+Cool ending that could hint for an interesting part 3... someday?
+Perfect UltraWide Monitor support.
CONS:
-Limited powers compared to Dishonored 1 & 2 and you cannot choose any. The game sets them for you to use.
-Just like Dishonored 1 & 2, the characters don't look good. The gameworld is fantastic looking though. (Low-rez visuals).
-And again, just like Dishonored 2, Death of the Outsider has a disappointing ending epilogue. Doesn't expand much on the outcome of your choices.
OVERALL:
Fun and good Arkane game. This standalone expansion plays pretty much the same as Dishonored 2. Abrupt ending without much explanation for the outcome except a few lines here and there. In Dishonored 1, you had more expanded explanation.
RECOMMENDATION:
Love the Dishonored series? Play the sequel at first then DEATH OF THE OUTSIDER afterwards! Pretty much everything from Dishonored 2 is in this sequel, gameplay speaking. Story is decent and the missions are fun to complete. So yes, I recommend this standalone expansion if you want to dig deeper into Dishonored's world and lore.
If you are new to this series, start with Dishonored 1 then 2.

PROS
+ Playing on high chaos is fun, at least I didn't give a f*** about stealth and went full rambo in most cases, without really affecting the ending. The combat mechanics are fun in this game and I felt it was a pity I was guilted into playing stealth in the previous games in my first playthroughs. I know that in previous games, apart from the different endings, you can notice differences in the world, but it came at a cost of lots of grind and resets to get low chaos and ghost.
+ Mana recharges naturally, which is a blessing no matter if you want to kill everyone or play stealthily.
+ Few powers to use but they seem well-thought of. If the game was any longer I'd like a couple more though.
+ Billie shoots lethal and non-lethal bolts from her crossbow arm. How cool is that? Arsenal feels balanced adequately for both high and low chaos.
+ The human voice of the rats sounds both so f****** cute and disturbing at the same time, while giving hints, revisiting lore and adding to the atmosphere. Loved that addition!
CONS
- Enemy and neutral NPC AI is abysmal at times. Bee-lining, ignoring you killed someone right beside them if you are close enough (for neutral NPCS), getting scared shitless just from you running past them, etc.
- Billie spouts a lot of exposition in the beginning, which kind of put me off at first, but later it is diminished luckily.
- Lack of hard enemies when playing high chaos. Apart from the few special enemies in the end of the game, they are all relatively easy to deal with once yous start collecting gear (played in on Hard, not at the hardest difficulty). Even the 2-3 clockwork soldiers that are by default active in the game are easy to deal with due to the map layout and the tools at your disposal and your environment. Perhaps the most difficult mode will be better but i have to mention in.
- Game is short, which is a pity cause I really had fun with the adjusted mechanics.
- Not a lot of inter-character relationships apart from Billie, Daud and the Outsider are developed or shown, and the ending feels kind of empty in substance and way too open-ended. We get a rushed wrap-up of the Outsider's medling and that's pretty much about it. Not a lot about the future. Most likely because the devs want to re-visit the franchise.
- The atmosphere and the ambience gets carried for the most part from what the previous games have developed, but there is no real aftermath observed from the past games. It appears that Empress Emily has just achieved mediocre results, and that reflects to the cities being in a weird state of limbo. Granted, putting that state in a better place is a gigantic task, but I was expecting at least some better showcase of how her staying on the throne had a positive or negative impact on the world. For a game that plays a lot on the black and white of high and low chaos, that felt for me like indecisiveness on which Dishonored 2 ending is canon (though keeping Billie alive is a choice in Dishonored 2).

While Dishonored and Dishonored 2 focus more on the politics of the Empire of the Isles, the side stories -- The Knife of Dunwall, The Brigmore Witches, and now Death of the Outsider -- explore the playable characters’ inner conflicts, as well as the dark, supernatural sides of the game series’ lore. This allows the developers to expand on the game universe without over bloating the main series titles, and give the side stories their own tone and personality.
In DotD, players assume the role of Billie Lurk. She is Daud’s former protégé, whom he canonically spared during the events of The Knife of Dunwall. We learned in Dishonored 2 that she had since lived under the pseudonym, Meagan Foster, only to eventually reveal her true identity and her role in the assassination of Empress Jessamine to Emily Kaldwin. This game begins with Billie, having been canonically forgiven by Emily, looking for Daud.
If you’ve played previous Dishonored games (and you should play them before playing this one), you’d feel right at home with DotD. Billie doesn’t have supernatural powers at the start, but is given them by the Outsider against her will. Her arsenal of powers are noticeably smaller and different from other Dishonored playable characters, but they’re really fun to use:
- Displace allows her to teleport over some distance;
- Foresight enables her to stop time, scout her surroundings in spirit form, and mark positions of enemies and objects of interest; and
- Semblance grants her the ability to take on the appearance and voice of another person.
The best part of using powers in DotD is that Billie’s mana regenerates itself automatically -- so no more finding and hoarding Addermire Solution! This allows players to experiment with, and use powers with fewer restraints. This also helps with the game’s pacing, which tends to drag slightly in previous games when players waited for mana to replenish in between using special abilities.
I like DotD’s story because it’s one about Billie dealing with guilt, taking on Daud’s burden, and seeking revenge or redemption. Sadly, I can’t say the same for this game’s overall level design, which is rather uneven. There are 5 missions in total, with two set in the Upper Cyria District, and one in a repurposed level from Dishonored 2. The last mission introduces an enemy that I wasn’t adequately prepared for taking on if I had chosen to do so. It’s a level that’s equally enigmatic and disjointed at the same time.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2571281669
To be fair, the missions in the Upper Cyria District have different objectives, so reusing a portion of the same map isn’t really an issue. In fact, the second mission sets you up for the third, which is one of the more exciting and challenging ones in the Dishonored series if you wish to get “The Perfect Crime” achievement. Yet, this only makes the subsequent final two levels more anticlimactic.
The uneven overall level design is balanced by the option to take on contracts in missions 2, 3 and 4. These contracts act as side quests, which offer decent monetary rewards. Because DotD doesn’t have the Chaos system (i.e., “punish” players for killing) as in previous games, there is no repercussion for players if they take on assassination contracts for coin, for challenge, or for an achievement. As someone who typically goes for the stealthy, no-kill playthrough when possible, I find the absence of the Chaos system liberating.
DotD is a fun game for Dishonored fans, but it’s definitely not the place to start for newcomers or anyone curious about the series. Aside from the expectation of the players knowing the lore beforehand, this game functions as the conclusion of the Dishonored series as we know it. Although I think the level design could have used more work and variety, the game as a whole is satisfying, featuring several memorable moments that will be considered as highlights of the game series.

This game seems to be the end of the Dishonored Franchise, and what a Franchise it was. I had a lot of fun with every single entry and am a huge fan of the World which has been carefully engineered by Arkane Studios.
One of my favorite aspects of Dishonored is the fact, that every single character has a different kind of blink ability, with Billie Lurk having one of the most unique ones.
All in all, I recommend the whole franchise to everyone who liked the kick-simulator (Dark Messiah of might and magic) and blinking around.

Every nook and cranny in this series is packed with environmental storytelling and worldbuilding details. Nothing is meaningless.
Like, even if I'm not the biggest fan of the Dishonored universe or stories -- and I'm not, they're awright; Prey spoke to my style much more strongly, is all -- I adore the work the team puts into these games and the feel they create. I wish more devs were out there updating the Thief & Deus Ex formulas for modern gaming with as much passion and skill as Arkane do.

A Fitting End to the Dishonored Series
This is the third entry in the Dishonored franchise. It is set a few years after the events of Dishonored 2. You play as Billie Lurk, a former assassin and captain of the Dreadful Wale. Her story involves searching for her former mentor assassin Daud, whom we know as the Knife of Dunwall from Dishonored 1 dlcs. Her mentor tasks her with finding a way to kill the Outsider, the god that granted supernatural powers in the Dishonored series.
Gameplay
Since you play as Billie Lurk who is a new playable character, you get a new set of powers that are usable only in second mission. The powers are Displace - a blink/ teleport like ability but it uses markers, Foresight - a replacement to Dark Vision from previous games but it allows you to go through rat vents and place displace markers, mark guards/ targets and items, Semblance - which allow you to steal a person's face and roam around as that person. Apart from powers some gadgets return and also some new ones are introduced
like Hook mines and Electric burst ammo. There is a provision to turn random objects like pens into ammunition which can be done by purchasing a blueprint from black market shops. However, compared to the previous entries, there is no Chaos system which changes the world around you depending on amount of violent actions.
Level Design
The previous entries had great levels to remember but this title has very few levels (5 missions in total). Most of the levels especially in missions 2 and 3 are repeats but Mission 4 reuses the level of Royal Conservatory in Dishonored 2. The only missions that i found interesting are the Mission 3 (Bank Job) and Mission 5 (Journey to Mining complex and eventually the Void). Mission 5 had some interesting enemies called the Envisioned which appear only when you enter the Void. These beings behave like giant clockwork soldiers but they can teleport and kill you in one hit. Weapon strikes don't do anything but gadgets like charged shot and grenades can put them into prone position after which they will get up again. The fortunate part about them is that they are slow in moving and the their teleport takes some time to cast.
Voice acting
Once again this title has great voice acting but the only recognizable celebrity voices are Rosario Dawson and Michael Madsen
Overall, Despite the short length it makes up for it in story and content that is worth it if you are interested in knowing how the series end.

The main character of Death of the Outsider doesn't feel like a blessed demigod wrenching a city out of the depths of hell like the base game, but like a character who has history and meaning. You can go to an auction and buy off the possessions of an evicted small business owner. This affects both the story, and some characters around you. You can choose to visit a bar your enemies hang out in, and simply leave them be, or rampage your way through its passages.
I know this series is basically over, but it's this game I wish would be the template for games following in its footsteps: a game about people, and place, where I can see the city of Karnaca alive with its florists and tattoo shops by day, and plan a heist into the most vaunted bank vault in the kingdom by night. It doesn't need to be Skyrim, but not every game needs to be Half Life 2 either, if that makes sense.

INTRODUCTION
I have conflicting feelings about Death of the Outsider but at the end of the day I can’t deny the fact that I simply didn’t enjoy this game.
The gameplay holds up about the same as Dishonored 2, but the story just doesn’t work for me. I decided to play the game more than once to give it a fair chance but when I completed my first playthrough I was so frustrated and bored by it that I uninstalled the game and thought I would never play it again.
It’s definitely a Dishonored game and yet at the same time it misses so many of the features that makes its predecessors so much fun to play over and over again. I can still pick up any of the previous entries in the series and have a blast with them but I don’t think I can say the same for this game. Certain aspects of it are genuinely good but overall it feels rushed and uncompelling and it left a bad first impression on me.
GAMEPLAY
To go into more detail; the game itself is quite short for a standalone title and my most extensive runs of it ended up being just under eight hours long compared to my runs of its non-DLC based predecessors that would average out somewhere at over twenty hours each.
It has five levels in total and two of those maps are reused which I didn’t mind at first as my second time in the Upper Cyria District reminded me of revisiting Clavering Boulevard in the first game.
While I was initially excited by Billie’s powers I found them to be awkward in practice and even found myself forgetting about some of her abilities most of the time. Billie’s mana regenerates automatically and she can’t refill it with Addermire Solution so you can only use your powers for a short amount of time and I found myself disregarding Semblance as I didn’t think it was worth it on most occasions. That said, it still leads to some interesting moments in the game and I might just need some practice with it.
There’s also no upgrading powers or purchasing new ones, your small arsenal of abilities is all you have which doesn’t allow for the same level of creativity or variety in gameplay as its predecessors.
Which leads me to OG+ mode, which I enjoyed playing but can’t deny that it’s a step down from Dishonored 2’s NG+ mode. Billie’s powers are replaced with Blink, Dark Vision and Domino and that’s it. Nothing carries over. It’s a shame because I think this could have been a really nice opportunity to make an homage to all of the former protagonists, by allowing you to play with Billie’s set of abilities and one unique ability from Corvo, Emily and Daud as well. But that’s wishful thinking for the most part and not wholly relevant to the game as it is.
There is no chaos system and likewise no real choices up until the end of the game. Your actions can affect small things but not on the same scale as former titles. You’re free to be as murderous as you like with no real repercussions up until the end which makes the game less compelling to replay.
The Contracts are a pleasant addition and if Arkane Studios ever decide to make Dishonored 3 I would like to see them there as well if possible. They made for some interesting challenges and fleshed out the world a bit more.
The last thing I’ll mention about the gameplay is that there were a few occasions where I would check my stats and find a character had died, even though I hadn’t killed anyone at the time. I realise this can be quite common amongst Dishonored games as Clean Hands runs are often my favourite to play but on my one of my playthroughs, one of Billie’s targets died on the other side of the map before I had had a chance to identify him and I have no idea if this was a bug or not, either way the game treated it as though I had killed him and Billie reacted to his death as though she knew exactly why he deserved it. Again this was before I even knew he existed and was quite frustrating when I was attempting a Non-Lethal run of the game.
STORY & CHARACTER MOTIVATION
As I mentioned in the introduction of this review I did not enjoy the story. I couldn’t get invested in the plot to kill the Outsider and while the Eyeless Cult and the game’s respective targets were conceptually interesting I found them all to be underwhelming and forgettable. To be blunt, by the time I reached the last level of the game it felt like a chore to complete.
Billie is certainly the protagonist of this title but I did not once understand her motivation, nor her relationship with Daud. Their apparent closeness did not feel earned, especially when keeping the Knife of Dunwall DLC in mind. Even though Daud spared her life in the past, why does she blindly follow his instructions now? More importantly, why does Billie Lurk want to kill the Outsider? You could argue that she blames him for how the void has affected her but mostly it seems to boil down to “because Daud told her to”.
On that note, what is Daud’s motivation? He claims that the Outsider bestows his powers onto people knowing the destructive outcome it would have on society as a whole, that those granted his mark are somehow blameless, unwitting pawns drawn into violent lifestyles by the Outsider’s grander schemes. However on a meta note, this argument falls apart when considering the player’s freedom of choice, as anyone who chose to play a Low-Chaos playthrough in any of the former games, even as Daud himself, discredits his argument.
Daud could just be a flawed man. An idle killer who wishes to shift the blame of his actions and absolve himself of his past sins in his later years. But it is a shame to see this shift in character occur off-screen after last seeing him fifteen years ago on a quest for redemption and self-accountability as it feels like a dissatisfying conclusion to that arc. Perhaps his motivation was built up and better covered in the written side material, but I’m not sure whether or not that should change my opinion of the game itself.
In a way, Daud overshadows Billie Lurk in her own story and despite all the reasons why she should work as a protagonist in this title she still comes across as flat and her lack of clear motivation makes her seem as though she lacks agency up until the end. Instead of this story being about her, what she wants and how she relates to the Outsider it feels more like that she is simply carrying out Daud’s request in his stead.
CONCLUSION
That said, a lot of what I didn’t like about this game is fairly subjective and you may find what didn’t work for me to be quite compelling. If you have played the previous entries in this series and enjoyed them, then I strongly recommend that you consider what you like about those games and whether or not you will find that here, as Death of the Outsider may still be for you. As it stands, this is the weakest entry in the series and in part I think that’s simply a testament to how good the previous games are.
When you strip away the story, you still have the bare bones of a Dishonored game and you’ll likely still have fun with it. I imagine I will probably play this game three times at the least and that’s about 20hrs of gameplay which is pretty good for most games but there’s also a chance that I’ll uninstall it again and never think about this game again.
Personally though, I still cannot recommend this at its full price as I don’t think it works as a standalone title and believe it should have probably been DLC for Dishonored 2.

The level design is good but not great. A complete level is even recycled from Dishonored 2. The Contracts system gives you optional objectives on levels, which is good, but they are usually divorced from the main plot, so I felt less compelled to complete them.
You only have a few powers, and there are no runes (i.e. no powers progression). So you also have less systems to play with. To be fair, I must say I prefer the Foresight power to Void Gaze/Dark Vision of previous games. It stops time and you can use it to scout ahead and to mark objets and enemies. You can't keep it active like Dark Vision, which I think was a flaw, because you often wanted it active for gameplay advantage but had to suffer worse graphics for it.
There is no Chaos system in this game. Not that big a deal but it was a nice incentive to replay the previous games.
In the end, it is IMO the weakest entry in the Dishonored franchise.

Still, if you liked the previous games, it may be worth your time. There are some new skills to mess around with, though most of them are a remix of previous abilities. Just don't expect the same level of quality as the previous games or much that is new. There are probably some fresher stealth games to play out there.

The Black Sheep
Dishonored is famous for its flexible gameplay, allowing the player to approach any given situation as they wish. As a fan of the series, I had high hopes for Death of the Outsider. Sadly, it’s a step in the wrong direction, making it an undesirable end to the franchise. Despite this, it’s an enjoyable title.
To Kill a God
If you’ve yet to figure out, your goal is to kill the Outsider. “Death of the Outsider” - it’s right there in the title. From a game with such a name, you’d expect a climactic conclusion to the series; that’s not the case. The majority of the game feels like a first act that goes on for too long - the rest is a sudden and slightly disappointing finale. For its grand themes, the narrative doesn’t do a lot. The road goes in one direction, with no turns along the way. Dishonored’s story was never the focal point, but this is a new low.
When you hear about the premise, you’d expect a focus on the supernatural. It’s here, but not in the way I wanted. On a thematic level, there are many uncanny elements. On the other hand, the locations you visit are too reminiscent of the previous game. I anticipated otherworldly areas, with a focus on the mysterious Void, but Death of the Outsider didn’t deliver. You spend most of the time on the streets of Karnaca, infiltrating gang hideouts and battling the city guards.
But what is the story about? We play as Billie Lurk, a character you’re familiar with if you played the first game’s expansions. After many years of separation, she’s on the lookout for her former master, Daud. This character played a pivotal part in the first game, but now, he’s but a shadow of his former self - both in the story and in regards to the writing. Daud’s screen time is minimal, and he doesn’t play a big role as the narrative unfolds. He’s there to present you with a goal, and that’s it. It would’ve been nice to see him in action one last time, but that wish isn’t fulfilled.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2329990472
Death of the Replayability
While that header is an exaggeration, it’s a good representation of what went through my head while I played the game. Death of the Outsider is less flexible than its predecessors, with only a few options for the player to pick between. Gone is the vast selection of powers; we’re presented with three, alongside two abilities unlocked along the way. There’s no way of upgrading these, and you get them all no matter what; you can’t tailor them to your own playstyle. In terms of replayability, there is a New Game+ mode. It grants you three powers from Dishonored 2, but it feels like an effortless way of encouraging a second playthrough.
At core, this is a good game. The gameplay loop remains intact, and while limited by the lack of variety, there’s still room for experimentation. Each mission allows you to explore a detailed location brought to life by environmental storytelling. You have a specific goal, but how you achieve it is up to you. Do you stay unnoticed, sneaking past enemies, or take down every obstacle in your path? Perhaps you’ll find a shortcut, which allows you to tackle the situation in a different manner? There are many possibilities.
Central to the Dishonored experience is the matter of life and death. Do you kill an enemy or incapacitate them? There are many tools, both deadly and non-lethal. Billie has two weapons: a gun and a crossbow. The latter can fire both standard and sleep darts. The hook mine, when placed on surfaces, pulls in a nearby enemy, before finishing them off. There's also the hyperbaric grenade, which unleashes a gas cloud upon impact, rendering enemies unconscious.
Billie's powers are fun to use despite the limited selection. Displace places a marker, which she can then teleport to - as long as it’s in her line of sight. Foresight allows her to leave her body and spy on her enemies. Finally, with Semblance, she can assume the appearance of another person. It can come in handy when you want to blend in.
There are new additions as well. Billie can take on bounties, optional objectives granting rewards if completed. Sadly, a few of these need you to kill a target. I would’ve liked an alternative approach for players like me who prefer to inflict no harm. Speaking of killing, the biggest change is the removal of the chaos system. In the first two games, if you killed too many, the game would punish you; upcoming missions would include more enemies, and the ending would be darker. This revision results in a game where a violent approach is accepted. Some will like this, others will not.

A brief return to Karnaca
Arkane Studios’ home field is level design - the area where they always flourish. This entry is no different; each mission offers many ways for the player to experiment using the tools at their disposal. While Dishonored isn’t loved for its narrative, many adore its lore and atmosphere. Death of the Outsider continues this trend, with a haunting atmosphere juxtaposed with the false sense of security among the rich. Walking the streets of Karnaca is an experience of its own, and I enjoyed exploring every little corner of the southern Europe-inspired city.
There’s something special about Dishonored’s art style. Its oil painting-styled visuals never cease to amaze, and the sequel took it a step further by improving the visual fidelity. The visuals of Death of the Outsider are identical. It uses many of the same assets, and is set in the same city. It looks good, but from a standalone title, you’d expect more.
Daniel Licht returns to compose yet another great soundtrack. While similar to that of the previous games, certain tracks stand out. It’s eerie and otherworldly, with a touch of sadness - in other words, just what you’d expect from a Dishonored game. It only has 21 minutes of music, but given that this is a short game, it’s acceptable.

- Performance: The performance issues of Dishonored 2 are gone, but the game doesn’t run as expected. It fluctuates quite a bit, with 130 FPS in some areas, and 90 in others. It’s acceptable, but could’ve been better.
- Polish: On multiple occasions, I encountered a visual glitch where certain windows would turn black at a distance. It doesn’t seem to be random, as it happened to specific windows.
- Controls: The game plays well with a mouse and keyboard, and I never felt the need to use a controller.
Verdict
In many ways, Death of the Outsider feels like a DLC and not a full game. It doesn’t help that what’s on offer here is shallow in scope. The writing is dull, and the lack of replayability disappointed me. Nonetheless, the experience is enjoyable, and there’s fun to be had here; I just wish there would’ve been more to see. If you like Dishonored’s gameplay, this is a game worth buying. However, if you’ve yet to see what this series has to offer, I’d recommend you buy one of the previous games.

I've been playing through all of the Dishonored games and their DLCs this year, and after months of being blown away I've finally hit a game that disappointed me.
Death of the Outsider is a budget game/standalone expansion, so I was expecting less content. What I wasn't expecting for that smaller amount of content to not meet the same high bar that this series has set for itself in the past.
Death of the Outsider isn't a bad game, it just has the unfortunate distinction of being the only 'fine' game in a series of excellent games, and its hard to recommend it when you could just go play Dishonored 2 again.

If you are a fan of dishonoured gameplay, you will be happy with this game!
It’ smaller scale than the mainline games, but there’s some really cool abilities and some very well designed missions, they can be a bit of a pain at time, but overall it’s a very good set of missions.
Story
The story is interesting and provides some interesting background lore to the world. As I only played it the once I am not 100% how many options/endings there are. I do feel it could be a bit longer with a few more characters, but I can understand why it’s not the scale of the game.
Graphics/performance
With it’s art style I think the Dishonoured games will stand the test of time for quite a while, I also can’t see the game struggling to run on most decent systems nowadays.
Value
Overall I think that the game is an experience worth picking up if you enjoyed the other Dishonoured games. However I did complete the game in just over 5 hours, so I’d keep that in mind before buying.

Gameplay is very similar to Dishonored 2, which is great. There are new superpowers unique to the main character with weapons and gadgets that mimic Knife of Dunwall and Bridgemore Witches DLC (first Dishonored). Forgot to mention that the aforementioned DLC is also necessary for full closure of Death of the Outsider.
As always, there are multiple ways to complete missions and objectives. Enemies are still satisfying to neutralize. My only beef with this game is that there are no runes and no upgrades to your super powers. However, new game plus, as with Dishonored 2, gives you access to all powers from all characters through the franchise so far, including learned attributes from bone charms for use in crafting.
Overall, this is a great close to a great franchise that didn't end with some huge, stupid, cliche cliffhanger written in at the last minute by talentless hacks. There's a good amount of replay value and you can expect a good 40 hours of gameplay if you're diligent.

my biggest problem with death of the outsider is that it is maybe 25% of the content from dishonored 1 or 2, both of which are absolutely amazing games. this game is about the same size of one of the two major dlc from dishonored 1.
pros:
- great sidequest system that should be added to the next main series game
- decent, but predictable, story
- the void engine is still amazing
cons:
- few and weak powers with no upgrades
- no chaos system
- ending is too short for the hype
- completely destroys the character of daud from previous games
- level design and enemy placement is the worst of the series (the best level is one revisited from dishonored 2)
if you absolutely need more dishonored, like i did, then you'll buy this game anyway. but there is no way i would recommend this game to anyone besides dishonored fanatics. just play 1 or 2 instead.

Then the sequel came out and it was more of the same without answering any of the pressing questions from the first.
This game is clearly an abbreviated third entry, meant to tie off the series so the team could go work on Prey 2, or something like that. It must have started as a literal copy and paste of Dishonored 2, as that game is everywhere here: the UI, the combat, the weapons, the enemies, even the level design and the art assets used are exactly the same in many cases. This is nice in some ways, as if you're familiar with the previous game there's less learning and exploring to do because you already know the system and the layout of some of the levels, but...no, actually, that's a huge negative. It's lazy. I'm assuming they had time and/or budget constraints, but if you're looking for a fully developed new game, this isn't it. That's probably why they didn't title it Dishonored 3.
On the other hand, Death of the Outsider does succeed where I feel Dishonored 2 failed: in actually answering some of those pressing questions. We learn a lot more about Billie Lurk and The Outsider, the latter of which was by far the most interesting aspect of the series. The answers we receive are...fine. I personally think there were better, more intriguing directions to take the story, and my headcanon still thinks about that a lot. It's almost like the writers couldn't see some of the amazing twists and connections they had set themselves up for.
It is still fun to move stealthily around levels and play the assassin, and eavesdrop on funny conversations. There's a lot of the core experience here that makes the Dishonored games good, which is why I liked it. They also didn't ask full price, or do anything incredibly annoying trying to squeeze more money out, like long grinds or microtransactions. I'm looking at you, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
I enjoyed it, overall. And was left at least somewhat satisfied. Everything surrounding the finale is appropriately epic. Thanks for taking me on this journey, Arkane.
Death of the Outsider wraps up the Dishonored franchise in a rushed, formulaic way, but at least we're given a conclusion. This is the curtailed final season to a nearly canceled TV show. It's not great, but it is serviceable, and at least we got something to bring it all home.

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider Review
Popular Question: do I need to have played Dishonored 2 to understand this game?
No. It is a self-contained story with almost no mention of Dishonored 2. Missions 1, 3, and 4 have small text or dialogue references to Dishonored 2 and that's it. It doesn't expect you to know all the lore and Billie Lurk and Daud's quest to end the Outsider is easy to follow.
Anyway...
This game holds a special place in my heart. I had it for PS4 years ago and unlocked the platinum trophy for it (also my first platinum) the exact same hour my maternal grandfather passed away. Hard to think about this game without thinking about that call. With all that being said, I will be as objective as possible where it applies.
Gameplay
Three new powers let you be creative with your kills. Displace is like blink/far reach, except you place a marker at the destination and switch places with it at will. You can swap places as long as you're not super far or have a solid wall in front of you. For example, you can pass through glass windows/doors without shattering them, and you can pass through metal bars assuming there's enough room. Displacing directly into another character explodes them for an instant kill, although it hurts you.
Semblance lets you steal a character's face, although only if they're still alive. By default, using semblance on an NPC instantly incaps them nonlethally. It's similar to Corvo's possession except you're able to do much more, including fight, while appearing as someone else.
Foresight allows you to stop time and explore outside your body. You can go through rat tunnels or even fly up to some areas. While in foresight mode, you can place markers for the displace ability that you can then swap with. It's also like dark vision/void gaze/the heart because you can see NPCs through walls and bone charms are highlighted.
The sword combat, gunplay, and stealth is the same as Dishonored 2, i.e. quite good. You have fewer powers and there are no runes since the powers can't be upgraded, but you now have infinite mana that recharges over time. In Original Game +, you get blink, domino, and dark vision. In the last stretch of mission 3 onward, you get an ability called void strike that damages enemies and also throws them away, similar to Corvo's windblast power.
There are also two new gadgets, the hyperbaric grenade and the hook mine, that makes life easier if you're going for a nonlethal playthrough, although this game does away with the chaos system the clean hands achievement, so an accidental or necessary kill won't force you to reload checkpoint.
Story and Setting
Way too short for the price it goes for. If we're going by the $1 = 1 hour rule, this game costs $30 USD and I played the game to completion in about 12 hours. Grab it on sale or as part of the bundle with Dishonored 2 unless you're a big Dishonored fan. Bonecharm crafting and void strike are locked until the end of mission 3... in a 5 mission campaign.
The story itself is acceptable.
Daud's reason for wanting the Outsider dead is irrefutably weak, but Billie herself gets to call him out on this in the nonlethal option for the final mission. The Eyeless do seem competent and dangerous, but they are way too passive within the story. They never seem like their actions actively threaten Billie Lurk and Daud. It's like they're just minding their own business and the heroes go about theirs.
Furthermore, it never feels like your actions have consequences outside of a newspaper article or NPC dialogue. Killing a bunch of people/everyone results in a few extra guards in the following mission and that's it, and that difference goes away altogether after mission 3.
The locations have the Dishonored aesthetic, but they are quite linear and small. Mission 1 is especially guilty of both of these. Missions 2 and 3 take place on the same map, and that map is actually quite large. Mission 2 feels like a classic Dishonored mission, but the objective in mission three focuses on a specific part of that map and it feels quite linear if you're going for achievements. Mission 4 is recycled from Dishonored 2. Mission 5, while the design is linear, gives off an ominous and straight-up Lovecraftian feel to it, which I absolutely loved.
Graphics and Other Technical Aspects
It looks the same as Dishonored 2, which, being a standalone expansion, makes sense. The series goes for a unique art style and achieves it, looking aesthetically pleasing in nearly every way. Audio is good, the weapons sound crisp, the stabbing sounds fleshy. You can run it on any decent gaming PC from the last 5-7 years.
Verdict
Ultimately, I recommend it. From a technical aspect, it is near flawless. Very few—if any—bugs and only one achievement is finicky when it comes to popping. It runs well, sounds well, and plays well. From a financial and story perspective, it's acceptable, but barely. If you like Dishonored, grab it. If you're curious about Dishonored, grab it if you have spare money. The story is definitely short and should have been DLC for Dishonored 2, but it is
a self-contained story with an arc that can stand on its own without requiring prior knowledge of lore. Billie and Daud set out to kill the Outsider and they accomplish that, and we, as the audience, are able to follow the steps of their journey clearly. Not nearly as much exposition as Dishonored 2 and Billie Lurk's voice acting is arguably a bit better than Emily Kaldwin's.
Is it great? Yes, but it could have been better.
It's a complete different experience from Dishonored 1 & 2. You can go crazy on killing without having downside and consequences on the story or the city, which is nice AND NOT.
The story is great, but again COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER.
Should you play it? Definitely.
Again, there is some rough edges and the story is short (feel like a DLC).
I personally don't like crafting charms, I have better things to do yanno?
And the fact that you can't craft runes OR use runes to upgrade powers or buy new ones is dull. But heh, it's a complete different experience.
There's one map that is reused for 3 missions (on the total 5).
That's kinda feel like they didn't have the budget for this game...
BUT, it is Dishonored. So if you like Dishonored, you cannot miss it.

BUT
- This game does not have CHAOS SYSTEM unlike previous 2 games and Assassin Daud DLC had. Not only that's huge bummer and makes the game way less interesting and your actions will have basically zero consequences as you can kill every single person you see and in the end only meaningful choice happens 30 seconds before game ends which is
wether or not you want to kill the Outsider
Technically that's not even a spoiler because
the name of this game kinda tells too much but I was surprised I have non lethal option
after going through non- consequencial playthrough.
- Enviroment is a good as Dishonored 2 had because you continue the exploration in Karnaca
- Game mechanics are similar to previous games and despite being different I really enjoyed the new abilites and huge kudos for new non-lethal weapons like gas grenades and hook mines which unfortunately are complete waste of time as it doesn't change a thing if you murder everyone.
- Little bit short game... I played it through in 9 hours. And I took my time to enjoy scenes and hunt for achievements not to mention the fact I thought killing matters so I tried sparing everyone only to learn it's meaningless!
- ZERO REPLAY VALUE. Lack of chaos system had big part with this. Only reason for replay is to get all achievements. I played D1 over 200h, D2 around 100h and I won't be playing DotO more than 20
- I paid 10€ for this game, would not buy for more. THIS IS LITERALLY DISHONORED 2 DLC SOLD AS SEPARATE GAME. Dishonored 1 DLC were better compared to this shit...
BUT DESPITE ALL THAT,
If you are huge Dishonored fan, have some extra cash and nothing to do, I would recommend to try.

Dishonored®: Death of the Outsider™
Playtime - 21.6 hours
This is maybe the last game from Dishonored franchise....Maybe...Lemme show you some pros and cons :-
Pros :
- Optimization is good.
- Fluid Gameplay
- No Addermire Solution. Use the powers anytime you want, it will regenerate in no time.
- So many bonecharms...They can improve your powers.
- Many ways to complete levels
- Billie Lurk's New Powers.
- Lore about Daud and Outsider
- This game made me sad. While playing this game, you will feel that this is the end, this is the last journey. In fact, the environment makes you feel sad. I don't know why. It's like everything is collapsing...
Cons :
- Graphics is relatively same, compared to Dishonored 2
- Story is too much short. They should have made an awesome average-sized story for this last game
- The map is short compared to Dishonored 2
- ....and nothing. I can't remember any more cons
Overall My verdict is 8.5/10
Outsider is neither good nor evil

Doesn't quite have the level of shimmer that the main games do and the powers can be a bit lacklustre in comparison but DoTO is still a good sized chunk of content and if you can get it on sale like I did (sub $15) then it is worth a playthrough or two.
The 5 missions took me about 9 hours to complete and that was me decently taking my time to do most of the contracts and find a good portion of the loot. The combat/stealth is still just as satisfying here as it was in Dishonored 2 and the level design is still super top notch.
All in all I'd give it a 7.5/10 mostly due to the powers being kind of bland at times which is what really makes this series shine.

The last mission just kinda places enemies wherever and doesn't give very many options for stealth focused players.
7/10.
It's alright, but Dishonored 1 & 2 are far better, with Dishonored 1 bring the best out of all of them.

What?
Spin-off of Dishonored series is taking place after the events in the sequel. This game is more as dessert than a full-fledged dish, in the dinner nomenclature. Plot of Death of Outsider is not a direct continuation of previous events, however, I still recommend to play Dishonored 1 & 2 first to better understanding the lore, world's mechanics and references all around (few easter eggs brought me some great memories from D2!).
Where?
Arkane Studio prepares for us the last journey to Karnaca to enjoy the esthetics of city and locations. A big dive into well known Victorian style of buildings and streets bathed in filth and dust. Citizens thrown there with their problems and tragedies are a perfect recipe for a disaster. Be careful, familiar places and faces might let your guard down. There's still the unknown looming on the horizon with a new threat. [strike] Mind-blowing. [/strike]
How?
The gameplay was shortened by cutting perk development. Full abilities are available from the start. Most are refreshed from the last series. Also gears was upgraded with new features. Both can be slightly modified by bone charms. Like in D2 there's also the possibility of crafting new ones. Side quests as contracts payed with money, which can be spent on the black market, are optional. However, 2 out of 5 missions took place at exactly the same location, only at different time of the day. Also in another one we'll get a déja vu feeling visiting one of the main areas from D2.
Verdict
If you loved Dishonored since first play, Death of Outsider is the icing on the cake of this series. You can gain a new perspective of the well known story, learning from protagonist seen so far on the side. With this ambiguous character you will get another piece of this puzzle. Simplifies of the mechanics and built world let you focus on the essence of the plot.
The Void.
The Outsider.

Dishonered: Death of the Outsider; Woke Edition.
- We play as Billie Lurk from the last instalment, the one eyed, one armed, lady, person of colour.
- Be merciful or vengeful which effects the cities future state.
- Couch slides and lean-to's, oh joy it's proper stealth.
- Stealth Kills are sweet.
- Key hole peeks to scout rooms ahead of entry.
- Out to get the man The Outsider.
Who is helping us BTW.
- Constant mild mana regeneration with limited powers, no upgrades.
- But we can now talk with rats, sometimes they give winded audio clues.
- Unconscious bodies will be killed if dropped on glass, or piled too high.
- Automaton Guards in State Bank spew customer advertisements., le laugh, le lol, le hehe.

I'm a bit on the fence with this one - It is an interesting game, but feels kind of short.
PLAYTIME
When I finished it first time I had 22 hours playtime, but that includes a lot of lurking in the shadows, scouting, sometimes even leaving the game paused while cooking or talking on the phone.
STORY
Story is interesting enough, but somewhat unsatisfying - it lacked the personal involvement Dishonored 1 & 2 had... I understand the idea with mentor-you-betrayed plot, but it's just not that interesting.
CHAOS
Chaos system is removed - you can kill freely and go all in which is a huge plus for me.
POWERS
Completely new set of powers, giving a nice twist to the old settings. Mana regenerates fully which is a big plus.

Short game in comparisson to the others but the best one by far.
The void lore and the outsider story is somenthing as unique as the enviroment.
I got captivated by the sounds and the beautiful abstractly of the background.
This game is far away from what i expected it to be. At the end you can decide what to do, but it wont be easy, it costed me tears running my face.
This game that took me by surprise sure is a 100/10

This time you play as Bille Lurk voiced by Rosario Dawson (in dishohored 2 too)
+ story and closure
+ new powers, no more refills (auto-refill)
+ bank robbery was fun, either go guns blazing, drop the f-ing vault down or be silent.
+ got roam in the void
- As it is a short game could have been made a DLC of Dishonored 2 but nonetheless was fun and enjoyed it.
