DeathSpank Thongs of Virtue continues the story from the first DeathSpank game. If you enjoyed the original, then you will definitely enjoy the sequel! There is a lot of the same in the sequel from the original, but there are new areas, tons of new quests and different types of weapons. The sequel is longer than the original by a couple of hours. The sequel almost feels like an expansion for the first game because the gameplay, graphics, interface, sound/music are all the same as the original, which is not a bad thing because it all feels familiar.

This game feels like a continuation from the first not only in story but in that the same engine was used (and occasionally you will find items that came from the first game as well). Hilarious story, a more than generous amount of side quests to do and overall smooth gameplay will keep you coming back for more. That said, I did encountered quite a few crashing bugs this time around, but luckily nothing major (in the case of one boss in particular, make sure if it crashes when you beat it, as it did for me and several others, make sure you check the lost and found for getting the item back that you need to beat it).

Basically, if you enjoyed the first one, this is highly recommended.

i have up to 1500 on every game of the trilogy on my ps3 they are fantastic!!! but the third one is the best.

Wish I could recommend this cheesy and simple yet enjoyable hack n' slash RPG title. But unfortunately it's plagued by a gamebreaking bug, my game just crashed about 6h in and my progress is lost in the nether. I tried googling for a fix and found an old fix about replacing a certain file. Attempted it and could load into my game again, although after a few seconds I got a BSOD (blue screen of death) instead. Tried it again, same result.

Read somewhere you have to avoid quitting the game in certain places, but in my case it wouldn't have mattered because the game quit on me instead.

For those wondering about specs:

This game is a classic and I just blinked slowly at the screen at the fact it is sitting at less than 100 reviews. There is SUCH a good time to be found in these games. I played the trilogy back on the Xbox Live Arcade before my ascension to PC godhood but I can't stress how intensely funny and charming these games still are in the joyless 2020s. The decade since release has done nothing to sharpen the edge of its lovely writing.

It feels like a throwback to the mindless joy of action RPGs of the 90s where the only focus was having a good time and making you laugh. The gameplay itself is simply 'good' but this is a perfect example of where the writing and atmosphere and genuine sweetness of the overall package adds up to something far more than the sum of its parts. The voice actor for Deathspank is on it and slays every line in a way that needs to be experienced.

This game is legendary to anyone who actually knows what the $@!& is up.

More of the same funny, wacky action RPG that brought the first game. If you liked it, you'll probably like this too. It's the same formula, but a with some minor quality of life improvements, and a little longer duration. There are a lot of characters from the first adventure who make a comeback, but obviously introduces new interesting and funny ones as well. The new boss battles are a nice new addition. At some point it gets kind of repetitive, monotonous and/or boring (it could have been a shorter game), but in the end is a good experience.

Not surprisingly, given that it was released only a year after the first DeathSpank game, Thongs Of Virtue is very similar to its predecessor. The mechanics, while introducing a few new limited items such as grenades, rocker launchers, etc., will be familiar to anyone with prior exposure to the series, and the humour is also thankfully (although that is subjective) intact.

One new thing in this game for me was the crashing, and it seems other people have had similar issues. I reached a certain point in the game and it would crash to desktop every time I went near or engaged a certain enemy, following the below helped me to get past it:

I strongly recommend you back up your saves at the end of every session however, just to be safe.

There are few changes to speak of - if you enjoyed the first game, you will enjoy this as it is more of the same. If you found the first game boring or annoying, steer clear of this one as your experience will be the same.

This is a great game. A great RPG that porvides 14hours of gamplay if you want to do all the quests that is. It is better to start with the first game of the series if you want to know the whole story.

I love the stupid humor in this game. I love the stupid quests and stupid story. And I love the stupid characters.

But the gameplay is weak. The combat system is clunky, repetitive, boring after a while. There will come a time when the fun from the humor will be defeated by the weak mechanics. After the that point, the game becomes bigger and bigger pain.

I would buy it on sale and enjoy it while the fun lasts.

Honestly it dont find this game to be any better than the first one if any thing i personally found the first game more fun.
That being said this game was still very fun to play albeit slightly more difficult than the first.

The classic deathspank humour is still here and is just as good as before the story line is funny which i love the game play is for the most part very smooth (some little problems here and there)

Bearly anything was changed this game other than the introduction of grenades and guns for the most part the weapon types are exactly the same and i liked that.

The biggest problem i have with this game is the sudden difficulty spike that happens out of nowhere early on the same problem was in the first game as well as in both games i found leveling was tediously slow at the start and you kept getting rewards in the ways of new weapons and armour that are a level above what you currently are at the time and then you get shoved in to fighting enemies that can basically 2 hit kill you. Best thing i found was to lure 1 enemy away form the rest kill it and repeat. If you have a friend with you who can play that makes it much easier ( the rainbow heal)
once you can muscle past the difficulty spike the game goes back to having the proper difficulty curve it should have and continues feeling fair again

Another problem i had was teleporting with the outhouses the 10second odd wait after you teleport before you can move gets annoying as it throws you out of the flow of playing.

I was happy to hear more DeathSpank would be coming. Thongs Of Virtue is basically more of the same, which is great. The new content includes new weapons (assault rifles, bazookas, etc.), enemies and of course many environments to explore, but the formula stays the same. It also has a great deal of fetch quests and grinding, which can be kind of tedious if you play longer sessions, but all things considered, Thongs Of Virtue is on par with its predecessor!

This game is the definition of 'hilarious'. There are so many great jokes and fun moments in this game, you simply can't stop playing it. Of course the gameplay, art style, musics and voice acting being really good helps too. I strongly recommend both this and the first one. They're both equally funny and awesome!

DeathSpanks forte is the dialogue, but since I played the first game recently I found myself clicking myself through it a bit too fast in this follow-up. The added feature of ranged weapons would be nicer if the range wasn't ridiculous compared to blast radius and if you could actually see a longer distance in maps. I found myself dying more from my own grenades than anything else due to the extremely poor handling of such items. Still, it was a worthwhile playthrough with a nice conclusion to the Thong story.

Deathspank Thongs of Virtue. More of the same. Exactly the same. Same gameplay, Same UI, Same items. Same enemies. More thongs. Many more thongs.

As much as a sequel can often be completely worthless because in an attempt to innovate and streamline it loses what made the original so great the opposite is also true. A sequel that does nothing new whatsoever will often feel hollow and foolish.

Deathspank Thongs of virtue is one such sequel. It's a very simple action RPG that relies heavily on a quirky sense of humor that attempts to poke fun at the RPG genre in general. Unfortunately while the humor and silly art-style could carry the first game both have been worn quite thin by now and you are left with just the shallow action RPG that form the base of Deathspank's gameplay.

Nothing has changed other than the story and if you have already played the original Deathspank this won't be much different.

You should note, this game has a game breaking bug that corrupts your savegame if you exit the game at certain locations. The developers fixed the bug but never shared the update on STEAM. You have go find it yourself on the Steam forums and manually fix your savegame. Guess EA is rubbing off on them.

Not really a game I'd recommend buying if you already played Deathspank. If you're new to the series you can safely pick either although playing both will be a stretch.
