Pros/cons:
+ Runs 4K/200+ fps on a GTX 1650
+ Fast paced, engaging, fun
+ Despite being old, there is good support for modern resolutions and possibility to configure controller buttons (a must in a racing game).
- Doesn't close normally and has to be killed in the task manager every time
- Unlocked frame rate causes nitro not to work properly (buzzing noise and no boost of speed). Forcing V-Sync or capping to 60fps externally in Nvidia control panel solves this
Couldn't finish the campaign, because of an INSANE difficulty spike at the end. This has more to do with my lack of skill... Nonetheless, given the low asking price, thumbs turn upwards. There are worse ways to spend pennies. Payed €0.50 on sale for this.

Lets address the elephant in the room, the graphics. People have bitched about the graphics but I don't see a problem with them. Sure, the game is old, so the graphics are dated, but the color palette is not the worst, as even drab environment will have brighter, neon colors.
Speaking of the environments, they are way too busy. There is a lot of surround buildings, and environmental details that may seem they won't get in the way, but they do. Billboards, underpasses, etc are incredibly annoying, and make it so hard to see. I swear I can't even shoot at some of the buildings because they are blocked by objects, and when my weapon finally locks on, its too late!
The game has that very arcade/mobile type of brainless gameplay where all you have to worry about is driving while weapons automatically lock onto targets. This also applies to enemies as well, so they can end up getting free shots as you can't avoid them. Its not fun, and is very frustrating to play against.
The physics also kinda suck. I can't seem to get a good feel for vehicle handling, which feels both understeery and oversteery at the same time. Plus, cars don't collide really well, and going off a jump wrong can send you crashing, and landing awkwardly.
Sound design is alright. In game sounds are a bit muted, and plenty of weapons just don't have that 'kick' because they sound incredibly weak. However, the soundtrack is kinda nice. Its was a soundtrack made specifically for this game, and its very decent. There is some songs that I can pass on, but a few are some good bangers. I especially love the menu music, it just feels right.
Oh, how can I forget, the AI difficulty in this game is crazy. Even on low difficulty, they are very hard. Its like impossible to win races on higher difficulties. No care was put into balancing the AI.
If you try running the game over 60FPS, you'll find that the nitro is completely broken. Not only does it not even work properly, the visuals also glitch out, with possible the worst distorted sound, ever. The game also refused to shut down properly as well, forcing me to go into Task Manager to end the process.
Now, you might have seen that a couple of years later, a PS3 version was release. Even though the PS3 version has a DLC car and has split screen & online multiplayer, avoid it at all costs. It has worse physics, horrendous controls, and even worse sound design. So if you are going to get this game, you might as well stick with the PC version.
Overall, while Death Track: Resurrection is not the worst vehicular combat game I've ever played, its still not a fun experience that is just frustrating and boring. This will be another vehicular combat game that you should avoid.

Pros:
- Good graphics for it's time and runs at a stable 60fps on my system.
- Nice variety of locations to race.
- Cheap, even more so when it's on sale.
Cons:
- Gameplay gets boring quickly, the game is best enjoyed in short sessions.
I think DT:R suffers from the fact that the developers seemed unfocussed and didn't go 'all out' with this title, look at Carmageddon or Twisted Metal for what I mean.
2.5 out of 5

A futuristic death race with less-than adequate controls and many annoyances.
Xbox One and Xbox 360 controllers will not work properly with this game out-of-the-box (b-button to accelerate, not much else), but button mapping tools are built right into Steam and are freely available elsewhere, so i can't make that a big issue like I used to. It's just a headache to have to map the buttons to make this playable with anything other than a keyboard.
The races aren't exactly fun, either. The courses are mostly linear with very few opportunities to actually utilize the environment's objects to alter the race outcome. There is some challenge to getting through a race, but it's mostly frustrating instead of challenging, because the other cars always seem to have the unfair advantage. At the start, the other cars zip way ahead of you. You have to shoot them to slow them down, but if you pass them, they shoot you back, which can seem a little silly when you've demolished their cars. There's no permanence to death in this game's races, which makes it feel more or less like Mario Kart done wrong.
The one redeeming quality of this game could be the cutscenes, but I actually found the fly-through of the race course before each race highly annoying. You can't skip the annoying parts, either! The reason the cutscenes could be a redeeming quality is few games in the genre present an actual story behind the races. This one gives you some old school grainy film-like videos about a death race entertainment company complete with a news network covering its shinanigans. Overall, it's difficult to sit through the cutscenes due to pacing issues and a lack of interesting characters, but it's still a nice feature for this type of game. I only wish they made it more enjoyable and less tedious. Make the bad scenes skippable just like the not-so-bad scenes and we're golden.
Overall, this game can't be a recommendation, even at such a cheap price. It's just not worth your time when other games can be just as cheap and do the genre more justice. I recommend Redout as an alternative, but keep in mind that it's a gravity racer, doesn't have guns strapped to your back, and is much more expensive. I'll update this review when I remind myself of a better cheap alternative.

Fun if it wasn't so Frustrating

I'll just leave it at that. Hopefully you'll find this one of the more informational 'reviews' of this game.
TL;DR= The truth is: the game has/had a lot of potential, but unfortunately the game seems to fight you every step of the way, keeping you from having fun for too long. In fact it's making me quit before I even beat the first level.
For $0.99 it MAY be worth it to you if you really like (unfairly) challenging racers, but IMO it's not worth your time. :D
-------------------
* NOTE: this entire review is based off my experience playing the game in 'modern mode.' There is also a 'classic mode' which features 1 life per vehicle (instead of infinite) and has 2 laps (instead of 3). But believe me, classic mode isn't much better. you die just as fast -if not faster- as the AI cars.
**If someone else tells me otherwise, I'll change that part of the review.
***these [ammo capacities] can be upgraded as you progress in the game, theoretically, but how someone can get past that first level is beyond me.
