https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2122154225

this game is okay...the story is not really great and the ending somehow is crap.
However, this game feels uncomplete.
Playtime is ~4 hours (in my case)
I got it in a humble bundle a long time ago. I can recommend to play, but don't buy it for more than 3€

Springen, laufen, schießen, fluchen…was für ein Fest

Egal was passiert. Entscheide dich zu kämpfen! Entscheide dich zu leben!

Story

Dead or Alive

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1936587780

FAZIT:

honestly this game is not bad although tbh your probably gonna die alot unless your the dev and you just know the layout of the game by heart im sure some ppl would enjoy just doing this game alot honestly tho its frustrating that you cant even look at the beautiful environment when this game's core mechanic is all about movement and running the moment you stand still a zombie kills you or some sort of trap kills you....... yikes. i really wish they wouldve toned that down a bit and focus more on exploration or something because i really liked this style or artwork alot. that being said this game made me realize that i really need to change my keyboard these clunky ass keys are disgusting bad for these type of fast paced platform games.

I really want to like this game but the game responds so poorly to the controls it makes for a frustrating experience many times. As for the story, I felt nothing for any of the characters and while the idea behind the story was cool it was poorly executed imo. Only get this if it is on sale as I do not feel the full price is worth it in the current state of the controls.

A surprisingly frustrating game, and all because of the controls. They're extremely floaty, sometimes they're a toggle and sometimes they aren't, and sometimes they just flat out won't do anything.

For 2012 game, it is a horrible mix of confusing obstacles and constant resets makes me want to bite my fingers off. The fact how outraging it is made to just either stun lock your ass or give you severe brain cell damage on which point the key of the puzzle is placed at. You either shoot it or press E on it. Besides some features where it requires you to specifically do that action won't allow you to do alternative, such as getting maximum health at ascend, where the obstacle can be easily climbed or jumped to walk on it, but no... You will glitch and hang in the mid-air for couple of seconds and fall to your death.

Had some pretty severe control issues, particularly with the guns not wanting to fire in situations where split-second timing was needed. But what really killed it for me was the stupidity of the ending. Rant about a ridiculous plot hole below.
Randall, the protagonist, decides to sacrifice himself in the end to save Stella by chopping a hole in the dock so that she can jump down and swim to the boat and sail away. We've established that he can't swim, so fine, whatever he has to stay behind and die. But why does he have to chop a hole in the dock in the first place, you ask? Because the chain-link gate in the chain-link fence around the dock is locked.
He's been breaking locks like that all game, either with an ax or a gun, both of which he still has at that point (or the whole dock-chopping bit wouldn't happen either). Why is this one suddenly unbreakable? It can't be because he doesn't have time. If he has time to chop a hole in the dock big enough for a person to drop through with a fire ax, he has time to break the lock and/or chain with that same ax.
There is no heroic sacrifice, because they could easily have both gotten on the boat.
He tells Stella to choose to live, and deliberately chooses to die himself for no reason.
Deadlight isn't a long game, but man, it is a thrill to play.
Wayne Randall kicks shadow's ass in this remarkably cool 2D game. Although the game is a platform driven game, the 3D in the background does its work of making deadlight a true zombie-apocalyps survival game. Voice acting is great, graphics are superb and the story is a bit short, but keeps getting your attention.
A Must Buy!

Wow what a hidden gem, this is an old one but if someone told me if came out this year I would believe them. Amazing story and sound. Graphically impressive as well. Gameplay was amazing and the story was even better. Good voice acting and controls were fine don't listen to other reviews. The progression was satisfying and it was perfect length. I highly recommend this game for anyone who loves zombie survival. Some moments literally had me on the edge of my seat as I tried to climb a ladder before they got a hold of my legs. There were some amazing cinematic gameplay moments as well that were thrilling. Decent extra content as well once you beat the game and there is some replay-ability since beating the game unlocks nightmare mode. Warning: You will die a lot tho so be prepared.

5/10. Deadlight is not the worst game I've ever played but it's unbelievably frustrating. The moments where you manage to react and think quickly are awesome and feel very cinematic, but are quickly offset by a dozen deaths that on a first playthrough are unavoidable. There are some sections where there is no room for error and require quite a few attempts to get through. The combat was quite disappointing as well.

Overall not the worst but far from the best game I've ever played. Fortunately it's a quick one, took 4 hours to beat without spending much time on the collectible secrets.

Disclaimer: I did not finish this game. I played until The Rat sends you to find his son.

Deadlight is a 2.5D platformer set in a post-zombie-apocalypse zombie-infested America. You play as Randall Wayne, who has been separated from his family and hopes to find them in the last safe zone in America.

The plot is basic, which normally wouldn't be an issue, but normally a basic plot would be carried by characters, gameplay, worldbuilding, and/or soundtrack, which is not the case in Deadlight. All the characters I've met so far were forgettable to the point where I couldn't even remember their names. In my admittedly short experience playing this game, I did not once find myself caring about Randall, his family, his friends, or the one side character I've met so far. The voice acting is alright, but the writing could be better, with a few spots where it felt like someone went through the lines with a thesaurus.

When it comes to the gameplay, its mediocre most of the time apart from a few segments, that were a coinflip between annoying and engaging. The platforming is average for the most part, nothing to write home about. The combat is alright, about as good as I would expect from an indie platformer.

The world is meh.

I can't remember if there was a soundtrack.

I will continue this game and update the review if I find myself feeling differently by the end.

I don't feel as though I've wasted my time, but I do feel that I could have done something better with it.

This game has a neat aesthetic, but there's just too many sequences that aren't possible to complete EVEN IF YOU KNOW HOW TO DO IT because the controls are unresponsive. I know what I want Randall to do to pass an area with traps, but I can't make him do it because the controls just SUCK. Too many things require perfect luck and timing, and it's not worth my time any more to listen to the same monologue before walking into the same trap to die over and over.

The Story was meh it wasn't that deep but it tried to be one and honestly, it doesn't worth playing nightmare mode for the alternate ending, in my opinion, don't waste your time for that mode.

I don't know why some folks complain about control and stuffs like that I finished the game with keyboard and mouse and it wasn't rocket science, yeah it has bugs but it's not that big.

The music and soundtracks were great I really enjoyed it even in the main menu you can AFK and enjoy the music.
overall deadlight is a fun 2d zombie game buy it on sale and you will not regret it.

Deadlight is a linear 2.5D game with decent graphics given its age.

However, the main problem is, it's a 2.5D game, and it's poorly designed in that you're often left guessing whether something is part of the playable foreground of background. So it becomes a largely trial and error gameplay loop.

The part that made me just uninstall because it just became straight out tedious was the helicopter part. After running through most of the part, I came to the section where you stumble over some boxes. However, due to the timing, you sometimes don't have enough time and you'll get shot dead, and the checkpoint puts you back 2 floors, with a decent amount of waiting.

Storywise, there's nothing amazing. Zombie theme with a guy searching for his family. With some random platforming events in between.

One of the best post-apocalyptic zombie games ever..!

Though it's not such a long game, it's atmosphere keeps you hooked-up from the start until the end..!

There are places where it autosaves, so you don't have to run the whole course at once. But it's still a short game.
Game Time:

For a platformer, it is rather casual and newbie friendly. The general plot and the atmosphere of the game is well-made. What can I say, I am a sucker for 1980's. I should've finished playing it back when I purchased it (approx. 5 years ago).

+ Parkour gameplay

- The controls kill this game
- This games involves a lot of circuitous logic.
- So, what do you need a slingshot for? All you had to do was play with it For, like, 30 minutes and throw away. So WHY would you take something and add unnecessary elements?
- Any clue, when i really need it?

Nice visual style and good sense of progression, but other than that there's really not much positive points worth mentioning. Platforming is hit or miss, puzzles are very rudimentary, voice acting is atrocious, story is not that well written and the setting is boring (zombie apocalipse zzzz).

But, I'll still give it, barely, a thumbs up though, mainly due to it's age. By 2012 there weren't many of the games that eventually set the standard to this genre, like Inside, or Little Nightmares. Even though it's repetitive, the journey itself is short and somewhat enjoyable if you're in the right mood.

so apparently other commentators blame this game for being unjustly hard, this is a surprise to me since I rarely died, there was maybe 1 or 2 places that were a bit strangely designed and where I died several times before passing, but that's not where I judge this game.

The gameplay is very interesting at first, but yes as others have said it becomes repetitive, if not boring, still it's one of the rare games where I got to the end before completely losing interest, so it must be doing something right.

The story elements are mostly boring, tedious even when you have cutscenes you have to redo because you died, this game could have done without

Still recommending this game, if you get it on sale. You'll be done in about 4h so don't spend a fortune on it

This game is fairly compelling, which actually makes it worse than if it was simply uninteresting. It hooks me into continuing to play (mainly because it's quite difficult, which I take as a challenge), but it leaves me feeling like crap because it's totally unrewarding. The characters, narrative etc. are all lame, so there's no satisfaction there. And the gameplay involves repeated challenges that are impossible to overcome without dying in order to figure out what the developers want you to do. This creates a major lack of flow and undermines any sense of a fair test. It's just frustration, and then progress that starts to feel more and more pointless.

DEADLIGHT

A PLATFORM GAME IN THE POST-APOCALYPTIC WORLD

Deadlight is a platform adventure game that renders noir items in a post-apocalyptic environment developed by Tequila Works. With its atmosphere reminiscent of Deadlight Limbo and The Walking Dead, it invites us to a completely different adventure.

The first feature of the game that catches the eye is its visuals. The successful integration of hand-drawn background images into the game increased the depth of the post-apocalyptic world.

The section design has very successful drawings and lighting compared to a platform game.

A esthetically pleasing game that will scratch your puzzle/platformer itch, but not much past that.

Gets boring really fast. Some of the puzzles feels like they are designed for the sole purpose of annoying the player. Story and voice acting is pretty bad as well.
Overall, i thought this was a cool post apocalyptic zombie survival game. Turns out that it's a shitty platform game with bad story and uninteresting/annoying af characters.
I don't recommend even with a discount ...

Deadlight is a zombie themed game with great graphics and atmosphere, and those are the only redeeming features it has. If you're after an action game, please keep looking. I got tricked by the visuals and zombie theme, thinking this would be a nice side-scroller that would put my skills to the test. Unfortunately, the way Deadlight tests you is through your patience, since the controls are quite unresponsive and sometimes it's vital to react fast in several timed moments.

On the other hand, if you like a good narrative and atmosphere, Deadlight might be a good game for an occasional weekend play. It's very casual, never punishes you too much and the checkpoints are generally well-placed. But it's too casual for my taste. Sometimes it feels more like an interactive movie than a real game.

It wasn't easy to give Deadlight a thumbs down, considering the great artwork, graphics and story, but the flawed controls and lack of gameplay variety are just too annoying to ignore. It wouldn't hurt to have more combat and add some tense moments while trying to slash your way through the hordes of infected. Instead, the sense of danger relies on seeing your character struggling to jump a fence because the controls keep fighting against you.

It's a real shame that Deadlight is plagued with those technical shortcomings, because this could have been a great zombie game. Again, try it at your own risk, keeping in mind that storytelling is all this game has to offer to keep one's interest.

A great atmosphere and engaging storytelling. A little short at 3-4 hours, which results some of the themes clashing across the three chapters; the transition between them feels a little clunky. The graphics and cut-scenes are great, however, and the gameplay is both varied and challenging enough.

An interesting side-scrolling platform/puzzle game. It took me about five hours to finish it completely, so it's not overly long. Some segments of the game were fairly frustrating, requiring you to be very precise or perfect. I enjoyed the story.

Deadlight is a platformer with simple puzzles to solve, easy action moments, dark and depressive story with zombies, nice music.
You can beat it in 4-6 hours, there are 2 endings, one of them is available only by beating the nightmare mode.
I like visuals and scenery very much, all locations/levels are great to involve you in a dying world's story after zombie apocalypse with only few survivors left.
Found some bugs, but nothing too serious.
Basically you get a walking simulator with linear story and some amount of action moments.
Overall I like this game, it's not superb, but a solid experience for a few hours, get it on sale.

This game hit the spot for me at first with the setting and the atmosphere, i wanted to shoot zombies and be a survivor, test my skills. And if i should die, atleast it should be my own fault given the information and tools given.
But that was not this game.
This game is just a big trial and error puzzlegame, it pretends to not be at times, but its all about solving the puzzle. Its like looking at a pinball game with a zombie theme, you just want to shoot zombies, but its all about pinball.
You will die constantly, and you will never feel like its your fault, its trial and error to the extreme. Sometimes you will enter a new room, stop to look around, soak in the room and figure out what to do next, the next second the roof caves in and you instantly die. The game wanted you to rush through that particular room like a madman suddenly without any hint or warning, while also perfectly time the jumps a couple of times while running or you instantly die. Have fun dying 5-10 times untill you learn the exact order of jumps.
For everytime i was forced to die in order to learn what the game wanted me to do at any particular moment, my
feeling of immersion was completly lost.

This game is hopelessly broken in Windows. Won't even run on a modern resolution since it won't stay in the foreground by default and you have to manually edit a fucking INI to even start it. Then the map glitches and controls come in, completely broken.

How can this even be sold?

I got this game as part of a bundle that I bought and decided to give it a try. The atmosphere and art style are pretty great and I can understand the story the game wants to push. However, the game has issues when it comes to playability. The controls can be somewhat finicky and every action has to be extremely precise or it won't go through. There is also an issue with crashes and glitches in where you spawn out of the map onto a black screen. I would give the game a 6/10 overall.

Epic zombie-themed game. Definitely got a real interactive movie/comic-book quality to it, the art-style and direction is fantastic. And while the plot is fairly standard zombie story fare, it works well and is satisfying.

I also enjoyed the fact it wasn't a total pew-pew fest, with engaging in combat being best used as a last result in most instances.

It's a rare game I can't find any fault with, but I'm struggling to think of anything on that front with Deadlight...

... still thinking.... ....nope... ...play it...

One of the worst games I have played in a long time, maybe ever. The game is not at all good looking, for starters, but that is more easily forgiven. The plot, writing, and voice acting are some of the worst I have seen. The plot can barely contain itself in a generally incoherent mess, the writing is worse then basic, and the voice acting was so bad that at any point where I needed to retry a level, I would turn off my speakers just so I wouldn't have to listen to it again. The gameplay is clunky; oftentimes I found myself retrying levels because of your character never quite doing what you want to do. The levels are not fluid in the least bit, because it would sometimes throw something at you that you can't quite expect, especially at the end, where you could run right into a soldier and not have any time to react. One of the main sections of the game, in the sewers, seems so completely random and out of place with the rest of the game. The ending was almost touching, except the main character needed 10+ lines of dialogue to explain why what he was doing was right. I think this is even worse because of how ten minutes beforehand, the character does a specific action that causes dozens to potentially hundreds of survivors to be overrun and likely killed. Overall, this game gave me a pretty killer headache, and i would not recommend it.

It's a good game. It's not perfect, but it does a lot well enough to be at least worth getting on sale.

The graphics, music, sound, and sheer amount of zombies always trying to get to you, even when most of them can't, creates a really unique atmosphere in my opinion. Ususally, it's either a ton of zombies that you tear through like you're invincible, or a few zombies here and there with the occasional horde, and a hopeless feeling. This game manages to combine the 2, with a ton of zombies and the hopeless feeling.

I do feel like this would have been even better if the story was better presented. But there's really not much to the story. I'm only about half way through the game, so that might change. However, it does seem like there's a lot of background story to read by finding pieces of a diary, so there is more detail for those wanting to find it.

Minor complaints:
I'm also not sure how I feel about the main character always looking like a 3D silhouette. Maybe there is an artistic or story related reason this is the case, but I found it a little alienating when he is in well-lit areas and still looking like a shadow.
Also not sure how I feel about the voice acting. It's good. But it doesn't feel real. It feels like they are reading lines. I'm not sure how to explain it. But the main character always talks in his head like he's narrating in real time, rather than actually being in the moment. The voices themselves are good though. They fit the tone of the conversations. The quality is great. Something just feels a little off to me.
Again. These are just minor complaints. They were just something that bothered me a little, and probably won't affect most people.

My only real complaints has to be with the graphics, controls, and the pause menu.

The graphics themselves are just fine. But it's not always clear what you can and can't interact with. You won't know if that ledge is a ledge you can grab until you jump at it and possibly fall to your death. This isn't really an issue if you play the game casually, but if you are trying to find any possible secrets like me, it can lead to a lot of deaths. Not to mention, it's not always entirely clear that the bottomless pit is actually a bottomless pit, and not an alternate path with a secret for you to find.

The controls are great when you do what the game expects you to. They feel a little rigid, but not bad or unplayable. It's the jumping in particular that really feels clunky. You can either jump forward, or straight up. It can be a little annoying to be below a ladder, but a little to the left, so you tap right and jump to jump at a small angle, but you instead fly to the right at top speed.

Overall, it really feels like 90% of my deaths were caused by the controls or not being able to tell what was a ledge I could actually grab. I've only died by a zombie a handful of times, and one of those times was with the game glitching and a zombie grabbing me while still being 10 feet away. Despite dying a lot, I still really enjoy the game. It's the wait after dying that really makes dying annoying. And that brings me to my last point...

The pause menu takes forever to show up for some reason. When you die, you have to wait a little before spawning back in. Not too long. Just long enough to get annoying if you are dying a lot in a room. But the pause menu. Sometimes I have to wait for a good 10 to 15 seconds for it to pop up. The game pauses instantly, but the menu takes it's time to appear.

Despite my complaints, I still recommend this game. But mostly for the art and atmosphere than anything else. Nothing was so bad that I found the game unplayable. I really would like to see a sequel to this game, with all the issues fixed, and more depth to the gameplay and story.

???? I don't want to write a review for this game, but I do want to give this game a thumbs up to help the games ratings because I enjoyed my experience with it ????

Good game. But the playable character feels 'slippery' in his movements, and there's some precise platforming sections where this just... doesn't work out. Good game otherwise

I don't know how it is with a controller, but it's almost impossible to play with keyboard and mouse. The controls are REALLY bad, delayed, inconsistent and not accurate at all; some parts require that you run and jump or roll and they almost never work, basically depends on luck. Also the sounds in the game are okay but kinda mixed left and right, you never know where it is coming from.
Having said that, the graphics and art are nice, simple but they fit the game. Good setting and atmosphere too. It's a shame the controls are so bad; if you don't mind dying and retrying all the time because of them it's worth (again, on keyboard and mouse, don't know if they work if a controller).

Game becomes very repetitive really quick
Sometimes when you respawn, the game will not respond to you, making that the enemies will start moving before you and makes it almost impossible to continue the level.
In my opinion, honestly not worth the money.

Wow! what a game, very addictive and will get you sucked in from the start. I wanted a platformer i could sit down and relax with a controller, with most it done the job, other times you just sit and scratch your head to. I only have one big problem, the game length. just over 7 hours to complete is way to short, and looking that is the average time spent.

Note. If you are using a steam controller, you will have to play with the settings to get the aim on the mouse pad working. or use the steam user config. I would do this before you start playing the game.

Great game. Please do deadlight 2 but longer :D

I found this game in my steam library. I'm honestly not sure when or how I even acquired it. I assume it was from a humble bundle or something 5+ years ago. Anyway. The game is ok. The controls are good at times and are perodically kind of clunky. It plays a lot like a phone game. I had played a few other side scroller games that were really good so I figured I'd give this one a try. I honestly wouldnt recommend it though. I rate this game a 4.5/10.

Terrible game. It starts off nice. The first act is enjoyable and interesting. But from act 2 it becomes a horrible game. Way to many instakill traps, with some stupid savespots. The inputlag in this game also doesn't help.

This could have been a decent fun game, but the developers fuck it up.

Strangely, although I liked this game, I can't recommend it.

The art design and the world that was built for this game show a lot of love and attention to detail. Some of the scenery and set pieces are really memorable. The feeling of running from left to right in a world that extends and moves beyond you is very cool (reminiscent of games like Limbo and Inside).

The controls totally ruined it for me, though. I haven't fought controls this much in any recent game I've played. It's the most frustrating thing to know exactly what you want to do and have your character jump to his death instead. I would blame my own skill except that the actions are tied to one button. Want to jump directly up? Press A. Oh, but that might also fling you 60 feet to the right off of a ledge to your death. Need to turn on a generator because you'll die if you're a second too late? Better be in the EXACT spot that the game allows you to do so, or you're toast. Oh, and don't worry, the checkpoint was three fatal obstacles ago, so you get to do all of it over again. And again.

A game is sometimes only as good as it is fun to play, and this one really wasn't for me. This game has some powerful design and worldbuilding, but I really didn't enjoy wrestling with its controls for its entire four hour length. Pair these unpredictable/non-responsive controls with some subpar writing and voice acting, and the whole thing ends up being a disappointment.

Deadlight is a 2D, zombie apocalyptic, survival platformer.
You play as Randall Wayne, who lost his wife and daughter during the outbreak and he's searching for them ever since.
He decides to travel to a save point because he thinks his family would be there waiting for him.
As you progress and pick up small items in the environment, he talks about his family, his situation, the world as it was, and the nature of humanity.
Randall carries a journal which has several missing pages, which you'll find throughout the game, this journal gives you an insight to his past.

This side scrolling adventure is like a free running parkour filled with puzzles.
The atmosphere is executed perfectly, everything in this game makes you feel like you are in an apocalyptic environment.
Throughout the game you'll see pencil-drawn, comic book looking cut scenes that reminded me a lot of the Walking Dead series.

The controls and combat system felt a bit clunky and scarce.
I also noticed flaws where Randall was fighting invisible zombies.
I soon realized that killing zombie's wasn't rewarding, they need way to many hits and it is easier to just run past and avoid them, or outsmart them.

The story was decent but not very creative, specially in chapter 2 where it got a little long and boring.
Rat is a homeless guy that's living in the sewers, he is the only memorable character that you'll meet.
He wants you to search for his son, sadly that entire chapter feels very out of place and the sewer parkour is way too long.

Overall, it was the aesthetics that made this game feel so special and unique.
The atmosphere is so incredible and the style is so creative and extremely detailed.
It was something I never seen before, and I was absolutely blown away by it.

Deadlight: Director's Cut has slightly better graphics compared to the standard edition.
It also has a Nightmare mode which is basically the normal game but hard mode without check points.
There is a survival mode, where you kill endless waves of zombies, this does take place in a different setting.
If you already own Deadlight, I don't think it's worth buying the Director's Cut, since the difference is barely noticeable.
In case you don't own any, I recommend you to buy the Deadlight: Director's Cut, due to more content and better graphics.

Other than the good art style the platforming and puzzles become a rinse and repeat of the same thing over and over again. Mixed with some wonky controls (used both keyboard/mouse and controller). On top of a story of what I've seen so far I've had no interest in the story or really what's going on which is what the big nail on the coffin is for me of not wanting to even bother finishing the game.

No wonder only 30% people who have played this have completed it, despite the scenery looking pretty the game is a true bore fest after the first hour, it's just repeats the same things over and over, I think who ever made the game has a serious obsession with serial killers as all of the id cards that you find are serial killer names, eventually you meet Stella and the game makes out that you know who she is when there is no mention of her whatsoever until you meet her and she tags along so she can open a door another cm so you can get under it and then it dawned on me Stella, YES, Stella fuckin Artois, 12 pints please so I can forget I ever played this piece of shit game.
